Sebille: "We'll see how bloodied you're willing to get to pluck the one rose lost in a forest of daggers."
Sebille just casually dropping one of the most beautiful lines I've ever heard.
#Divinity#Divinity: Original Sin 2#DOS2#Sebille#I'm not a fan of poetry or anything but#the idea#the metaphor#and the imagery this line creates#HMMM#not to be a weeb but this makes me think of the last episode of Revolutionary Girl Utena#where the female protagonist plays the role of the fairy tale prince#and sets off to save the Rose Bride trapped by thousands of swords#and she frees her through the power of love(tm)#oh man so long ago since I watched that#my memory is hazy at this point#but that was such a delightfully weird show with a lot of symbolism I didn't understand back then and might still not fully understand now#either way my Yevanna will pluck her Rose Bride from the forest of daggers eventually#except her bride is fortunately a lot more bloodthirsty

I'm so sorry for NSWF weeb reader Ă Levi. I meant for SWF eheheh... sorry!
@kenkopanda-art <3
Cute weeb
Levi x fem!Levi
Modern AU, established couple, fluff, romance, cute, weeb reader, supportive Levi, loving Levi.
A new episode of your favourite anime is out. Whenever it comes out, you always watch it as soon as it does. Levi and you have recently moved in together, so you're getting used to routines. Levi shocks you by doing something special.
@ladycheesington @levisbrat25 @nyxiieluna @li-anne @galactict3a @youre-ackermine @thebobaprincess @2moth-anon2 @cypidity @nbinairyn @bts-spnlvr12 @notgoodforlife @demonic-bird
You released a long sigh as you worked on your computer and finished off something for work. You were trying hard to complete everything before the new episode of your current favourite anime was out. A grin spread on your lips when you finished the last part of your work.
Levi pushed open your office door at his home. He smiled at how nice your office was. The two of you had worked together to make it cute and perfect. He loved that you lived with him now. He always wanted you with him.
Levi softly called your name. "Are you done?"
You nodded. "Yeah." Your cheeks burned. "So, um...my anime is on in a bit..."
"The one you have collectables about?"
You hugged yourself. "Yeah...I mean, it's cool if you don't want me to watch but...I mean...sorry"
He walked over to you and held your hand. "Don't be sorry for something you love." He pulled you to your feet and guided you into the living room. "I love you for you. Did you think you being a massive fan of anime would bother me?"
You whined. "Yes."
He squeezed you. "It doesn't bother me. It's one of the many things I love about you."
"That...makes me so happy." You gazed at Levi with tears in your eyes.
He kissed your cheek and led you to the TV. "I set up something for you."
You gasped in delight as you took in the living room set-up. A little cushioned area had been put together. Blankets were folded up for extra warmth and comfort. The table was covered in your favourite snacks and drinks. It was a little paradise.
Levi hugged you from behind. "I made us some ramen to eat together. Once we've eaten we can snuggle."
You turned and gazed at Levi. "You want to join me?"
"Yes, if I'm allowed."
You nodded. "Yes!"
"Take a seat and I'll get the ramen."
You ran over to the blankets and sat on some cushions. You put a blanket around you and started up your streaming app for anime. You selected the new episode and waited for Levi to return to play it.
Levi gave you ramen and chopsticks, then sat behind you and began eating his ramen as you put the anime on. He was instantly hooked on the show and enjoyed it. It was the perfect mix for him. He really wanted to join you next time for the next episode.
He wrapped his arms around you when you'd both finished your ramen. He kissed the side of your head a few times and hummed. "That was great."
You reached up and gripped his arm. "I'm glad you enjoyed it. Do you want to watch more anime with me?"
"Please. I want to see what else there is."
You hummed a little. "Ah, this is a good comedy one!"
Levi picked up a sweet snack and fed you some before eating some right after. "Mm." He chuckled at the characters. "This is great."
You wiggled in Levi's arms. "Yes."

tuesday again 9/5/2023
moving closer to your best friend means hanging out in big groups a lot of the time. while this is theoretically good for mental health or whatever, in practice i overextended myself this weekend and am going to wake up tomorrow with the mental equivalent of a sore lower back
listening (2x bonus)
very fond of mÄneskin's new single HONEY (ARE U COMING?). sonically different from their other stuff, lyrics and tone-wise another incredible sad banger! spotify
youtube
my sister viewed the film Party Girl (1995, dir. von Scherler Mayer) last week at a party in philly and sent me this song featured in the film with no further explanation. Double Cross by First Choice (a Larry Levan remix) has what i want to call bollywood strings, a flute, and the funkiest bassline backing up some really classic disco vocals. First Choice were a group out of philly, which no one at the party knew at the time, and this blog calls this specific remix "dancefloor soul" which is probably as good a descriptor as any. i have had it on loop for a solid week. lyrics include
Love stealing, double dealing, two-timing lowdown son of a gun
which is just so much fucking fun to sing in the car. spotify
youtube

reading (2x bonus here also)
i read the mandalorian comics in between volumes of berserk, which feels a bit like saying i took a break from watching the evil dead franchise to watch some cocomelon.
the mandalorian comics are a remarkably uninspired nearly shot by shot breakdown of the episodes. not in the way most film/tv comics are, where theyâre very clearly traced screencaps, but screenshots redrawn. this would be interesting if the artist was not contractually obliged to the very flat marvel comics style. i am constantly reminded of how the mandalorian is simplyâŠnot very good. itâs entertaining as a spectacle of television to watch, but there are not a lot of fun ideas in there. something that made me fucking scream with laughter are these panels of baby yoda
pĂĄpĂĄ, your son is So high
back to the other series with a dark haired, roaming, grouchy, reserved man on a mission. unfortunately i don't have a lot of berserk thoughts just yet, i am waiting on vol 4 to come off my library holds and my brain is still digesting it. anyway i think not wanting random "friendly" embraces from strangers is a very reasonable thing for guts to dislike and i truly do not understand why ppl in-universe get so fucking offended. unfortunately reading these late at night did lead to an unpleasant sleep experience.
bitches love a fucked up interior space that can't ever actually exist (it's me i'm bitches)
not to be all therapeutic but im trying to be Curious About and Gently Interrogate why i get a real bee in my bonnet once a year to read some horror comics/manga when i am big squeamish baby about film depictions of those things. i think mostly bc comics gore is so much more stylized than some of the very effective practical and cgi effects? and crucially nothing is actually like writhing around on screen itâs a still image? does anyone elseâs brain have a much easier time handling still images over moving images of gore? much to consider
as with many other things, me reading berserk is indirectly @dying-suffering-french-stalkers ' fault
-
watching
i have viewed the first four episodes of Fire Force, the urban fantasy mercenary firefighter anime and do not think i will be continuing. while i have a great many questions about the worldbuilding (gravitational anomalies?? genetic predisposition to spontaneous human combustion?? solar god nuns??) it has a dead mom plot, which i am allergic to. this is also a 7.5-8 on the Ass part of the Weeb Ass Shit scale, and has a lot more casual assault than i try to encounter in anime. it's by the soul eater guy, remember the level of Stuff going on in soul eater? a little bit more ramped up groping and stuff that makes me say out loud "wow i don't like this" than soul eater.
the animation re: aforementioned fire is really top notch tho. visually complex and interesting television program.
youtube
how i found this: me and my best friend and my best friend's husband morosely poking around the anime section on hulu, looking for something to fill the spy x family void. this ain't it tho
-
playing
i have no fun genshin tidbits to share bc i am grinding talent mats while catching up with the podcast episodes of the road to partizan and i donât have much to say about the not-fun parts of gachas. why am i playing something if itâs not inherently fun? great fucking question
-
making (3rd 2x bonus)
very uninspired (derivative, even) abbreviated sofrito thing over rice. with heavy application of Worcestershire sauce it was fine. no pics
also i finally bought a couch bc salvation army had 50% off everything for Labor Day. this is a question of ethics vs money i have decided for myself, and encourage you, the reader, to go off and quietly make your own philosophical choices without explaining them to me in detail.
it will be arriving on friday bc that is when the strapping young men who own trucks are available. my front door is a very non standard size and i have a very awkward front stair, so i needed something that could fit under the overhang while standing on its end. this one was the best size and (fortunately) the cheapest at $150. it is some sort of extremely flammable early polyester and 100% has a grandmaâs soul trapped within its fibers. i will probably buy a cover at some later date to deter miss macaron but in the meantime we will do the strips of brown painters tape, which does successfully deter her. this really really does not want to be steamed so i will also be procuring some chemicals.
here are some other couches i could have bought but didnât.

This is a re-post/archiving of a twitter thread from Oct 16, 2021, edited slightly for clarity.
Know what I haven't done for a while? Waxed philosophical about Miami Vice.
I'm currently stuck in traffic bad enough that people have turned off their cars and are chilling outside, so here goes.
So we have a houseguest who actually ASKED to be subjected to Vice, and Dan immediately suggested we watch Bushido, because let's face it, he's a Castillo Guy, and the "Vice Squad's Lieutenant is a Weird Weeb" episodes are some of his favorites.Â
I expressed some hesitationâ Bushido is an episode that is very slowly paced (purposefully) and works best when you know the characters and know what the stakes are. We watched it anyway, and it didn't really land the way it should've (although the guest appreciated the Battlestar Galactica connections).
(Traffic cleared. In line for donuts now.) I tried to explain the fact that while Vice is technically an episodic show, it's a precursor to arc based shows in the ways it handles all the characters and their *emotional* arcsâ case in point, in Bushido Sonny and Rico both seem *happy.* Castillo earnestly smiles for the first time in the show, and we learn the depths to which duty and honor matter to him (and yet, how much actual RULES really do notâ his own code of honor supersedes the law even if he finds ways to pay lip service to it.)
This got me thinking about how Season Two of Miami Vice telegraphs an enormous amount about the characters' eventual arcs and the decisions they'll make throughout the series; practically half of S2 is episodes about Sonny Parallels crashing and burning and how that predicts his own eventual crash. Of course, those are the OBVIOUS things the show tells us about its cast. The thing I find fascinating about S2 is that a LOT of information is broadcast through music and images rather than the script, and Vice expects you to be smart enough to pick up on this and how it will come to fruition later in the series. So much of who Sonny and Rico are isn't spoken, and a lot of the things they say and do later in the series make a lot more sense if you pay attention to music and visual cues early on.
(Gonna drive again, will finish this thought in a bitâŠ)
This, on top of a friend on the Vice Discord asking for a listing of all the music in Vice got me thinking (aloud) about the music in S1&2, and Dan mentioned there were 14 licensed songs in Prodigal Son alone. That reminded me that a few weeks back I'd had a revelation: I had realized something about You Belong to the City, a song specifically written specifically for Vice (I.E., it's a significant piece of music thematically and lyrically), and which plays in Prodigal Son over a sequence of Sonny being distraught in NYC at night.Â
I wrote about Prodigal Son last year (2020) and didn't mention that sequence at all except to talk about the weird aggressive roller skater who chases Sonny on a darkened road. At the time, I frankly thought it was a song that was chosen for its sound more than its lyrics, because the lyrics don't really fit with what we're seeing on screen.
The song starts playing about halfway through the first Prodigal Son episode, right after Tubbs reunites with Valerie and leaves Sonny alone in a city he doesn't know and doesn't have any connection to. I've mentioned before that I think, as the opener for S2, Prodigal Son is very much about home and belonging. And the thing is: Sonny doesn't belong in New York. The end of the episode confirms that, at least at that point in the series, it isn't really home for Tubbs either.
Sonny's a Southern Boy, most at home on a boat. You could argue there's some kind of ominous irony in the first 1/2 of the chorus:
Cause you belong to the city You belong to the night Living in a river of darkness Beneath the neon light
But it's not objectively TRUE.
When you start picking apart the rest of the lyrics:
You can feel it Starting all over again The moon comes up And the music calls You're getting tired of Staring at the same four walls
It really starts to fall apart. Sonny isn't *tired* of anything, he didn't choose to go out wandering or to be in the city at all, Tubbs just left him alone to be with his ex-girlfriend. This isn't wanderlust, like the song implies, it's aimlessness. The second half of the chorus and the second verse make it clear that this isn't an accident.
You were born in the city Concrete under your feet It's in your moves It's in your blood You're a man of the street
This... isn't a song about Sonny Crockett.Â
You Belong to the City *is about Rico.*
The second verse says:
When you said goodbye You were on the run Trying to get away From the things you've done Now you're back again And you're feeling strange So much has happened But nothing has changed
These are exactly the circumstances Rico is in in this episodeâhe's the titular Prodigal Son, returned home after a long time to discover things are in some ways exactly as they were, and yet he doesn't fit anymore. It doesn't describe Sonnyâ Sonny isn't "back," he didn't leave NY "on the run." Rico did!
So, why, then, is a song about Rico playing when Sonny is wandering the city alone?Â
Because the idea that Rico *belongs here in NYC* is Sonny's driving fear at this point in the episode. From his perspective, he's been abandoned. He's unmoored. (And I think this is what leaves his guard so far down with Maggie. He is painfully lonely at the best of times throughout the series; alone in NY he's bereft. First port in a storm and all that.) That the episode ends with Take Me Home is a repudiation of that fearâespecially considering the more-or-less-overt flirting that occurs when they meet again.
Why is any of this important? Because Vice is a series that often takes Show Don't Tell as far as you can go without becoming French New Wave: Now on TV! I argued last year that Prodigal Son intended for a savvy audience to read Sonny as bisexual; the seemingly incongruous lyrical use of You Belong to the City both confirms that and adds the extra wrinkle that *Tubbs needs to be considered in that equation.*Â
Which is to say: the first episode of Season Two decides to make a statement about where the season is going, and that statement is that *the relationship between Sonny and Rico is import\ant and vital and that they both have a concept of home that involves each other.* Considering where the rest of the series goes, that makes the eventual unraveling of their relationship as Sonny falls apart just about the closest thing the series has to a full overarching plot.Â
THEIR PARTNERSHIP IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, FOLKS
GLENN FREY WROTE A SONG ABOUT IT
(and I'm done)
#miami vice#ricardo tubbs#sonny crockett#i wanted to save this before twitter fully implodes forever because i want to use part of it in an essay later

The First and the Last of the Year
And possibly last ever... on Tumblr at least.
Where did I go?
Nowhere in particular... if you've seen my socials all year, that is. This blog/newsletter however, took an extended vacation, not just from a lack of interest (and personal real life stuff getting in the way) but also from a technical standpoint - I really wanted the email newsletter aspect of this to work, but I still couldn't. I was considering using TinyLetter ...until they announced that was shutting down. If I had a nickel for every time a newsletter service shut down out of nowhere I'd have two... you know the rest. And with Tumblr getting worse as the year went by, maintaining this wasn't exactly motivating enough.
That said, it was a less than ideal year for my productivity, inconsistent pace, money issues, the lowest amount of notable dreams to write down on my dream journal to date... you get the idea.
So I can only hope for things to be better. For me to be less lazy... and work not only on stuff I make, but on myself. And I do have a bit of optimism, since a lot has, so let's see a couple of stuff, although everything else you should expect to see in a "rebooted" version of this blog...
Also, Free Palestine!
What I've Been Playing / Watching
So while I haven't fully completed a LOT of things this year, this will be going back to the beginning of the year, essentially, so strap yourselves. (Some of it I'll be grabbing from my media thread that I've made on Twitter as well)
Lucky Star (Finished)
I have posted about Lucky Star in another issue, but I was still in the middle of watching it. Now that I've actually finished watching it (in February) I can say more about it: When it comes to this anime, it was either pretty ahead of its time, or we just have Regressed as a species since then. Maybe the latter.
And sorry folkz, Lucky Star is pro-ship/pro-fic culture and thereâs nothing you can do about it. I watched the entire series including the OVA, and while Iâm definitely still not sure Iâm exactly the "target demographic" what I saw was still very enjoyable. it really just is whatever the fuck and I'm all for it.
At first my kinâą was Konata pretty quickly because of course. That was until Minami showed up and like, sheâs basically the weeb version of Ongo Jelly Jammâą!!! I actually can say I got attached to and care about most of the characters, even if just a little.
Like I said in a previous issue, in 2015 I had watched part of an episode of it english dubbed and it didnât click with me at all. Turns out the dub just sucks as I shouldâve expected lol (And I really wasnât used to segmented "several short stories in one" type anime and stuff to be fair - that and I was dumber too of course so I couldnt properly appreciate the ART........)
My rating is Timotei/10 - and Nichijou is next!
Pizza Tower
Easily the biggest loss for gaming this year was this game not winning "Best Debut Indie" at the Game Awards. Oh well.
I was already highly anticipating this game - having first heard of it when it had a demo at SAGE 2019 Iâm glad the game turned out great and is getting the recognition it deserves. I pretty much finished the game in early March. P/10
The Owl House (Finished)
Well... itâs over... for better or worse. I do think they managed to deliver a satisfactory ending all things considered. This was definitely a great cartoon to kick off the new decade.
And of course, fuck Disney as always.
This show got me to break out of, I guess an habit, you could say, or a superstition, or whatever the hell it is, when it came to media with too much ""occultism"" in them. You know the drill. I guess it opened up the little my mind had left that was still a bit closed. Even if itâs mostly involuntary.
But this isnât even new. As a child Iâd actually have an "imaginary friend" that i made (that kinda just Existed, didnât really "interact" much with them whatsoever cuz i was Dumbâą) that their backstory was literally that they were a demon in hell "gone rogue" so they were "not an evil one". Again, I was a kid. I never thought too much about the implications of me thinking about stuff like that already at that age. But it is interesting to think about now.
Anyways, been gay, did witchcraft. â„/5
Invader ZIM (Series + Enter The Florpus)
Well I did it. I finally watched the funny hot topic showâą (Finished in late May)
What can I even say about it that hasnât been already said by everyone else? ...well maybe I have one thing: for some reason I didnât find That One Episode that people always bring up the MOST disturbing one. I thought the one with a literal character flatlining and Zim being ":)" about it got to me a bit more.
Anyways yeah itâs Cool I liked the characters especially Gaz, and GIR obviously Why Wouldnât He Be Here. The show can be stupid and end episodes in Whatever The Fuck ways that leave you like "That's it? That's the episode???" but I think thatâs one of the unique aspects of it that I Enjoy - also the movie is cool. âźïž>đ+đ/10
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
So I watched it first when we only had shitty cinema bootleg recordings (that arenât even that shitty anymore at this point in terms of quality, the Shit comes in the form of godawful intrusive illegal casino adsâą placed.) even though a bit later the raw movie would sometimes be uploaded in full to YouTube with no consequence for days. And at this point Iâve rewatched it plenty of times in proper HD (though only once in English cuz Iâll be honest, the Brazilian dub really is phenomenal really and blows the original "star talent cast" out of the water in my opinion, where it falls short is the voice for Luigi, as I know the dudeâs voice too well and heâs just doing his normal voice with an accent, not to mention heâs the brazilian Sonic voice already!!!)
I think Charlie Day is the superior Loogy here but Iâd still say the dub is better, not only for the fact there are "real voice actors" cuz you know, thatâs Their Job, but also like, Charles Martinet is still in there cuz in case you didn't know, he voiced that jumpman dudeâs only line in pretty much every language possible which is absurd/admirable.
Itâs a fun movie if not mostly for looking at Mario Things happening that you know and recognize, because otherwise the story is pretty ridiculously basic, though even for "Mario game story" standards itâs definitely refreshing to see Luigi as the one to be rescued... though that Also sucks because Luigi deserved more screentime. The main Toad too. Oh well. Also disappointed that the "wise Toad" in the movie isnât Toadsworth⊠or maybe he is but hasnât aged yet and maybe in a sequel weâll see him get older and then main Toad becomes Captain Toad. Who knows đ/10
Honorable Mentions - Stuff I've Watched That I've Yet To Write My Thoughts About, I Don't Have The Time Now
Spy Ă Family (Season 1) - Not the type of anime I'd see myself watching, but I was forced roped into it by one of my partners and found it to be VERY enjoyable.
Sparkle On, Raven: The Life of Drillgirl - Charming, shitpost-y, but genuine and fun
The Amazing Digital Circus - A very promising series with unexpected popularity, and equally unexpected high quality Brazilian dub with recognizable talent.
Murder Drones (Season 1 - 6/8) - A series I've been cautiously optimistic about since its pilot - it has endearing, enjoyable characters and settings, but flawed writing and pacing - more on that at a future date.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off - An amazing take on a series that I'm not so familiar with (haven't seen the movie or read the comics, only really knew that the franchise "exists") and judging from what I've heard from others, it probably is the best take on the main storyline. Especially when it comes to the representation of who turned out to be my fave - Roxie. Watching the live action now is... probably gonna be very weird. Not sure if I want to.
Kunshikter (ĐÒŻĐœŃŃĐșŃĐ”Ń) - A new, yet very obscure cartoon from Kazakhstan. It's cute. It's for children but at this point I don't think y'all care. It's still ongoing and there are not many episodes so far. I recommend giving it a watch. Now!
Future YouTube Updates
As some of you saw in a xeet tweet from early October I was planning to do something significant on my main YouTube channel which has been stagnant for a while now, only for that to, surprise, not happen. I do have a set goal now: In very early January, a video to explain exactly what happened and what was the video I wanted to make, and... why it's hard for me to get a video like that out in the first place. The short answer (that doesn't actually account for Everything) is autism. The long answer is... stay tuned for it, lol
Song of the Issue
youtube
Although this section was supposed to be for sharing music that isn't mine, I thought I'd share snippets of music stuff I've been making since the beginning of 2023 until now, that you can look forward to!
Conclusion
I dunno. All I can say is... happy new year! It's been a tradition to make a stupid amateurish collage at the end of the year with the highlights, but this year there's been... less of them, that I took note of at least. But that won't stop me I think. Once I have that done, I may edit this to include it.
No comment on anything related to Twitter (which I'll never call "X") and the billionaire that happened this year as you all probably already know by now, and by the way you can now follow me on the social butterfly of bluesky. See you next year!

Season 2 Ramble#4 - A is for anime (solo reprise) ver.2
Hello Hello Hello and welcome to another episode of MM..MANGA, the podcast about getting more people into more manga.. Incidentally, as you may have guessed from the title, this episode isnât about manga at all, as this month I focused on mangaâs seemingly more popular younger sibling, anime.
Before we get into it, a couple house keeping matters/points of information:
Last season I had some friends on the cast cause I donât really watch anime like that and different perspectives are invaluable when it comes to any media. Plus I really fw them and the more the merrier. Sadly I wonât be having them on this episode, as again, you probably guessed from the title. Reason being, we had fun and everything but back then a lot was going on, I was just moving in with my then girlfriend and for one reason or the other I didn't put in as much effort as I could have into quality assurance. I definitely had fun but I really think I did them a disservice attaching their names to some mish mash of a ramble.
Those guys are some of the coolest people I know, and I really wanted to solidly improve the quality of the cast before getting anyone else involved in my ramblings.
Anna, Asha, Adley, Ashina, thanks again for being on the cast. Shout out stevaughn and daniel as well for being there and bringing vibes, always a pleasure. And a huUUge shout out to katastrophe kat for letting us use her house as the location. This was during peak covid n everything so I know having a bunch of folks in your house to make a podcast of all things could not have been ideal, but you supported the homie when all he had to offer was vibes and pizza. Many many thanks, and I hope to have you all back on one day.
All that being said I'm still just a guy recording on his phone at his house so if you hear stuff like people, animals or vehicles that's just my environment, give thanks for hearing and give thanks for the world around you.
Thatâs housekeeping.
Now some points of information
Firstly, Iâve come to understand that when it comes to anime there are 4 main release formats:
- Theatre releases which are usually movies
- TV releases which are usually series
- Original Video Animations or OVA for short, which are either movies or series made specifically for home video releases like dvd, blu-ray, etc.
- Original Net Animations, ONAs, which are either movies or series released directly onto the internet.
âŠof course here in the west I think alot of us just call everything anime,, or at least nobody's ever asked me if I've watched such and such OVA or ONAâŠ
Second point, the average length of any series mentioned here is 23 minutes unless otherwise stated.
Lastly, if youâre completely new to anime and donât know where to find stuff, all the series mentioned are on 9anime, zoro.to or you can ask a weeb friend. You probably have one or two and they would likely love to share if youâre interested.. You can also try for movies on those sites but I personally recommend torrenting them. Iâm generally an advocate for supporting creators where we can but some of this stuff just isnât on streaming services and if weâre being really real we can probably chalk up any âlossesâ to Japan paying for their war crimesâŠ
Alright. with that out the way, letâs get into it.
THIS episode's format is different from the usual, list of stuff consumed this month then stuff consumed before that,, this time itâs all stuff watched this month but split into series and then movies. Also the order isnât any sort of ranking itâs just the order I happened to watch them in.
Again I havenât really done too much anime and I already mentioned my fav older watches in Season 1âs Anime solo reprise.. Fairly certain that if i went with that format again It would pretty much be the same lists except most of what I watched that month would move into this monthâs older top 5 or so. I also really didnât want to have to try and balance between series and movies for a top 5 list,, or do any type of ranking tbh,, plus seeing as i havenât watched all that much anime I feel like my perceptionâs bound to be changing rapidly at this point..
When I add more to the stack I'll probably make another list but for now you can check out that ramble or read the writeup if you're interested.
[SERIES]
- Gunsmith Cats (1995 OVA, 3 episodes, 30 minutes each)
Picked this up for the shits because I liked the name and wanted to see if it had any relevance to the plot,, plus I'd always seen some 90s anime lofi type beat gifs of it and that made it seem pretty cool. Only 3 episodes. 90 minutes total, and if there was going to be predictably gratuitous fan service then that seemed a fair and tolerable length.
Not bad,, pretty enjoyable even if you don't mind or just wanna see some pulp., As anilist user Wilza put it, girls + cars + guns = fun.
Personally though I prefer media I consume to look good, be enjoyable and also be filling in some way,, but I pretty much knew what I was going into, and again, 90 minutes total. Not a bad appetiser for a whole month of anime.
Spoiler alert. The only relevance the title had to the plot was the main characters owning a store with the same name.. A gun store⊠idk what I expectedâŠ
- Riding bean (1989 OVA, 45 minutes) & Bean bandit (2021 OVA, 8 minutes)
The 1989 Riding Bean is actually the parent of Gunsmith Cats and the 2021 Bean Bandit is supposed to be a kickstarter for a new anime,, if iâm understanding my google search results correctlyâŠ.
The mc of Gunsmith Cats, Rally Vincent is the partner of the mc here, Bean Bandit. Mostly watched for the Gunsmith Cats relation and the fact that there was less than an hour total length between the two. Also the name, again, had a strange pull on me cause I just still canât fathom that naming sense and needed to actually see what was up.
Unfortunately I can't say there's much worth mentioning,, The mc is supposed to be a badass courier that has a cool ass car and drives anywhere anyhow but with basically one episode and an advertisement, neither of which were spectacular in any fashion, I couldn't find myself picking up the anything they were putting down. My only real comments are; cool car ig, the main character's chin is insane, like google the guy, bean bandit,,, and it was nice to see Rally again but in a different style⊠igâŠ
I encourage everyone to evaluate stuff for themselves but⊠you can probably let this one pass youâŠ
- Digital juice(2002 OVA, 6 episodes, 3 mins each)
Very cool anthology, no real relation between each episode besides an effort being made to transport you to a different, usually high fantasy world.
Not too much to say barring going into each of the 6 shorts but ain't nobody got the time for that + they were mad short fr. Not even 20 mins length total, so I feel like I literally canât start speaking on any of them without just about spoiling it entirely.. I will say that I definitely enjoyed all of them though.. Like a 7 on average if I was pressed for a score...
Really diverse animation styles throughout and, at least for me, it was a pretty decent shakeup of my preconceptions as to what anime, meaning Japanese animation, looks like. Highly recommend if you're bored of the same old same old and want a quick shake up.
On that note, this is one of three cool looking unrelated anthologies I wanted to watch this month. Sweat Punch and Short Peace are the other two. If anyone can find them please send them my way.
- Sonny Boy (2021 tv series, 12 episodes)
Wasnât expecting much going into this, if anything I was expecting some lord of the flies, kids slowly going insane and picking each other off type beat, but I was so off the mark and in the best of ways.
The gist of the story here is that a high school has drifted into another dimension and at the same time, some of the kids start developing powers. With that setup I donât think you can blame me for thinking this was gonna be another pseudo death game type beat, plus the title Sonny Boy, literally gives nothing away about the show,, but as I said the show went in a completely different direction.
For the most part the students are actually working together to try and get home albeit in their little factions, each having their own ideas about how they should go about that. Their situation was anything but normal and shit never really hit the fan like i expected but shit definitely got weirder and weirder.. But keeping the kids actually behaving like normal kids for the most part was a pretty good choice as it was way easier to relate and empathize with stuff like a class spat leading to people being isolated or god complex student council members, rather than dudes killing each other over who gets the best part of a fucking deserted island or something like that yk?
On that note the cast was great, pretty brilliant actually. Loved pretty much all the dialogue and despite the heavy scifi setup, it was more slice of life leaning a bit into psychological. Kids being kids, theyâre gonna have issues yk? Put em in a different dimension, give em powers, kids are still gonna have issues. I think the main thing, was trying to find the place where you belong and the journey to get there, but honestly there was so much going on, so much cool social and existential commentary before and after that became clear, it was phenomenal. All wrapped up in some of the most dope visual direction Iâd ever seen in anime.
Definitely highly recommend, honestly feel like i must have missed when it was buzzing cause itâs just so good in every direction I can think of,, my last ditch attempt at selling it would be to say itâs like a cross of the magic school bus and doctor who.. I think watching this as early as I did in the month was a big driving force for me actually trying to watch a bunch more stuff and I'm super thankfulâŠ
- Bus gamer (2008 TV series, 3 episodes)
Series about death games are about a dime a dozen but usually an okay time.. You know what you're getting and sometimes they can actually be really good and if not, what's another gratuitous chainsaw massacre?
The story, as with most death games is pretty simple. Different corporations/businesses hire teams of three strangers to steal and protect each other's data for huge sums of money.. As opposed to just getting a safe or investing in tech.. who knows why rich people enjoy toying with the lives of poors.. In any case, outside the games I like the plot point of teams made of strangers as it usually makes it more interesting to see how they pull stuff off.
Just 3 episodes, not that good in any sense plainly speaking. Very abrupt ending as it's based on a cancelled manga so that should tell you⊠I will say it did have a few cool lines I saved for future use though.
In any case I wasn't expecting much going in, the name just intrigued me. idk even know how I chanced into this. I just saw the name and was just like âare they playing games on a bus? in transit? what's going on?â but no they just play the games wherever..
Very sick op and ed tho Iâll for sure give it that,, and yeah it wasn't great but as hanma yujiro said in Baki son of ogre, if you only consume the good your body will become vulnerable, you have to take the good and the bad in their share to become stronger.
- The Tatami Galaxy series
So so so so so good, and without powers or anything really, just pure brilliance. idek what else to say⊠Tbh after watching Sonny Boy I thought Iâd be lucky to see another series even half as good but I was thankfully blessed with another masterpiece and Iâm so grateful.
The Tatami Galaxy series is actually 3 different series and a movie. Not really clearly related in plot but moreso the characters and themes, with each series showing those off in their own way. All thankfully and wonderfully brilliant,, but 4 items is a lot to squeeze in without turning a ramble into a lecture so iâll try to speak on the general first then brush on the differences of each.
At its core, tatami galaxy is a romantic comedy that we never truly get to see the fruit of as the mc's ceaseless cyclical efforts are barely enough to start up a conversation with a womanâŠ. Felt my dudeâŠ. :â^)))
Our mc is a freshman college student hoping to have a rose coloured college life as he's wasted his highschool years, and to that end he tries to join a club for their social circle, and hopefully even find a girlfriend. Sadly for him, but pivotal to the plot, he fails miserably at finding the ever elusive ideal girl and even worse, finds himself with only one so called friend he could call close after two years.
Another common thing were the absolutely stunning visuals which were so beautifully dynamic, in so many ways, it doesnât even make sense to start listing. (breathe)I think this worked really well with the anthological feel the series gives off as a whole, and even within each individual part. Like the visual direction was almost too perfect man like i know some folks just donât do slice of life but fr just look at the thing man itâs so beautiful.
btw, having watched all of them Iâd say you donât have to watch any particular one to watch any of the others, or in any particular order. I just read the summaries and decided to watch it in the order iâm about to talk about them in and yes Iâd recommend that order but itâs not any strict thing.
Tatami Galaxy (2010 tv series, 11 episodes)
Iâd say this is the definitive main branch but again, not something Iâd say you have to have to watch before the others.
Here we follow our mc as he thinks back on his past two years of college. Unsatisfying, living alone, and with only one so called friend who he blames for being the cause of his failure to grasp a rose coloured college life. I really liked the gimmick of the story telling where basically every episode he would decide heâs going to join some club for their social circle, find he didnât like the clubâs activities for some reason or the other, meet that same one friend, then end up wasting time for two years. This makes it so that at the end of pretty much every episode he finds himself in some dire social situation that makes getting friends, not to mention a girlfriend, virtually impossible. He curses his fate and wishes he joined a different club because then everything would be different and everything would be awesome, most of all he wouldnât meet that one guy and he would definitely get a girlfriend. Then the next episode his college life starts all over again and he chooses a different club.
Personally I really love strange loops, and I just couldnât believe how fun it was to watch the story progress even within said loop. All brilliantly wrapped up and I have to say the second to last episode is some of the greatest episodes of anything Iâve ever had the pleasure of watching.
Tatami Galaxy specials (2010 dvd, 3 episodes, 7 min each)
These are side stories that have virtually nothing to do with the main branch and if nothing else, just gave more screen time to a cast I was completely in love with by this time. I think it could also be first in your watch order if you donât want to jump into 11 episodes of the main branch, or even in between episodes tbh, as it gives little tastes of the main cast and the kind of antics they get up to. Thankfully keeping the killer visuals I'd come to associate with the series. It was like they knew they already did everything right and just wanted to have some fun.
Tatami Time Machine Blues (2022 ONA, 6 episodes, 17 min each)
Same main cast, same main character having the same problems, but completely different like nothing from the main series ever happened,,, or was somewhere in between, time machines are involved so who knows man, such is life.
This was more on the nose actual time travel as the name implies, as opposed to the originalâs recursive reminiscive storytelling,, The art was a little different than the first two i mentioned but the direction was still chefâs kiss. getting into the story of how and why theyâre time travelling in the first place would spoil the wonderful ridiculousness of it all and despite everything Iâm aware ramblings arenât usually well received, so I simply highly recommend this..
Night is young, Walk on girl(breathe) (2017 movie, 1hr 30 mins)
This one is completely completely different from the rest as though they all balance the vantage points of the main cast reaaaaally well, this one actually has most of the story coming from the main heroineâs perspective which was reeeaaalllly cool to see after all this time. Also the art is again a little different from the rest but thankfully still with the same utterly beautiful yet playful charm.
I think I'm getting a little repetitive now and I have other things to get to so I won't even give the synopsis but just know, as with all the others, this shit is flames. Source: dude trust me.
Speaking generally on the series again, I loved how the main characterâs narration was very like fast and clean cut, almost mechanical as opposed to how he and really the story were actually very whimsical and unstable. Fair warning, the dialogue could be very cutting emotionally and psychologically despite that whimsy, which almost always somehow managed to come from left field, but it all just blended so well, especially with the amazing visual direction. Also absolutely loved the main cast btw, from just their designs to their individual eccentric oddities,, easy 10/10 man
- Ayakashi: Japanese classic horror (2006 tv series, 11episodes)
Not a big horror fan in general, but I canât deny enjoying the occasional dash of gore and body horror in my media, but something about Japanese horror, specifically their supernatural realm stuff has always been very appealing to me. The diversity, creativity and folklore usually present is just so wild it always makes me wonder, wtf are the Japanese on and how long have they been on it.
That being said this wasn't all that great but it was an anthology of 3 stories, max of four parts each so nothing dragged on too long for me to hate anything. On average the stories themselves weren't bad or anything, actually they were solid enough and to the point but the age in animation showed through in a way that made me feel like I was watching a homemade project or something. But on the other hand, as I'm getting older myself, it did give me a bit of nostalgia for the days of searching through YouTube videos for hours to watch one anime episode split into four parts just to find out they only had 2. Also I thought each story was better than the last tbh, ending with an amazing three parter called Bakeneko, which was just so much different and also better than the first two in every sense, it's almost hard to believe they're from the same series.
If iâm being honest, even though I really dig japanese horror in general I actually mostly watched this series to see that last story as it actually ended up getting its own series called mononoke the following year.. I knew they weren't related but as a completionist I like to complete things yk? For those wondering, no you don't have to watch this series or even the last part, Bakeneko, to watch and enjoy mononoke.
- Mononoke (2007 tv series, 12 episodes)
Technically a spinoff of the previous series but definitely stands out on its own.
Honestly went into this almost to hate watch, for two reasons. One, for the most part I'm a manga purist so my hater self was like "fuck all those fancy shmancy colors n shit, all you need is the good ol black and white and a good story". Secondly I'd never actually seen anyone talk about it outside of thirsting for the mc and aesthetic blogs posting the same few clips so I thought it wouldâve just been eye candy, but just from what I saw in Bakeneko I knew I was wrong and was actually really excited to get into this.
The story here is that the mc is a "medicine man". Medicine man in quotes cause we never see this dude sell medicine and tbh it seems like wherever he goes people are about to be or already getting fucked.. But he calls himself a medicine man. Though in reality what he does is exorcise supernatural beings called mononoke. All together the show is split into five multi part stories, each focusing on a particular mononoke.
Now you might be thinking "ohhh brother, not more demon slayin". Trust me I get it man.. I get it⊠but it's different in that the mononoke are said to come into being because of the misfortune of humans, so they really focus more on solving the mystery of that first creation step for most of the story, rather than physically fighting demons,, which does happen but usually more to the climax of each part., I was expecting to find it getting more and more predictable with the same general outline for each; mc shows up, mononoke shows up, shit hits the fan, MC saves the day, different day, different mononoke. But every story felt so richly unique, less so because of the obviously different mononoke and underlying themes but moreso I think, because of the mix of lengths and pacing which made it hard for even the general layout I described to feel predictable.
The main character was honestly just too brilliant and pretty much everyone, in this very shuffled cast mind you, played their parts so well. Also I said what I said but the eye candy was there and cannot be understated. Loved the horror aspects of course, more creepy than scary though, and really most of the time, the most horrific things were the sequence of events that caused the mononoke to come into existence.
Also a movie should be coming out this year so that's another reason I decided to check this out.
- Yokohama Shopping Log/Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (1998 OVA, 2 episode, 29 minutes each) & itâs sequel, Yokohama Shopping Log: Quiet Country Cafe/Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou: Quiet Country Cafe) (2002 OVA, 2 episodes, 32 minutes each)
Actually read the manga just over 2 years ago when I was on a slice of life binge and really dug the vibe, was so strangely peaceful I really wanted to see it in motion.
There's no real story tbh, it's literally just vibes, as it comes from a slice of life subgenre called iyashikei, apparently meant to have a healing effect on audiences by showing characters in a calming environment, living out peaceful lives. There's no real grand happenings, but that's really the point. As anilist user c00kiemaster puts it. Finding peace in the mundane, seeing beauty in the damaged.
The setting is one of those very rare post apocalyptic ones that arenât all sad and hopeless. a little melancholy but that's just the personal disposition of the mc, which makes how healing it is all the more wild.
The two parts cover different parts of the manga but you don't really need to see one to see the other, as I said the plot is minimal and it's more about the setting. They don't cover as much as the manga but I really enjoyed just hearing the wind and watching it blow over the fields, watching the waves crash here and there.. a lone engine revving up then hitting an abandoned road⊠and the soundtrack is just⊠so peaceful..
If you want to see stuff happen then this probably isn't for you but it's a great wind down.. The reason I watched it last⊠If you're trying to get cozy then this is it.
[MOVIES]
- Roujin Z
The plot here is that the ministry of health has developed a new machine to automatically take care of the elderly who can't do so themselves.. Generally a movie needs conflict, so needless to say that didnât go quite as well as they planned.
This is a Katsuhiro Otomo movie. Fairly certain Otomoâs most popular, or at least his most commonly referenced movie is Akira, but he's also been involved in quite a few other films. I had the pleasure of watching a few anthologies he worked on last year; Robot Carnival, Meikyuu Monogatari and my personal favourite, Memories. These all pretty much stand toe to toe with Akira so I had pretty solid expectations heading into this and they were pretty well met.
Solid cast and great aesthetic as I think most anime fans do, or usually come to expect from Otomo, and also pretty funny. I don't think Otomo's comedy gets enough credit tbh, especially for pulling it off in these usually sci-fi, end of the world, high tension situations. If you check out his anthologies youâll see he can be a pretty funny guy, and though Kaneda provided a bit of that in Akira, Iâd definitely recommend checking out his other work, Stink Bomb, from the Memories anthology to really see what I mean.
- One Piece movies, Stampede and Red
Stampede was sort of cool because we got to see the worst generation all in one place again, though I don't really care for most of them, so it wasn't THAT cool to me. Honestly I find it hard to care for them when it's not like the main story, or even this movie seems to either. Cool looking main enemy with a simple mindset and characterization that plays their role. The only thing I didn't really like is this thing where the main baddie had some connection to Roger or is from that generation. Another movie that did this was One Piece movie Z.
Let me just put out there though that I liked it when they did it in the Strong World movie, because the antagonist there, Shiki, was actually canon and one of Roger's greatest rivals besides Whitebeard. So being the first movie post time skip, it really hit to see Luffy go head to head with someone like that, but also because of that,, pulling any other character from that era doesn't make much sense to me seeing as Luffy beat THE Golden Lion Shiki and has only gotten stronger since then. That being said I recognise Luffy's win over Shiki was a once in a lifetime ass pull but it's a movie you know,, cool once in a lifetime shit is kinda supposed to happen.. unlike his asspull win vs a certain Katakuri⊠which I'm evidently still salty about to this day.
One thing I really appreciated though was usopp's role in this movie. After spending 2 years on such island during the timeskip, being trained by a dude named Heracles, he's supposed to be a real yute now yk, but in the main series we haven't gotten it all that much.. Thankfully he was for really really real here, like all real ones know god usopp to be⊠also shout out warlord turned yonko genius buggy one timeâŠ
Red
Wasn't expecting much from this movie tbh. If you're a One Piece fan then you know Shanks is the biggest tease in franchise history, so despite all the ads and previews alluding to his supposed involvement, I knew he would show up for like 5 minutes, say a few words and maybe swing his sword once. Which was pretty on the mark,, but I didn't expect to love it as much as I did nonetheless. Probably the second most emotional one piece film after one piece movie 6: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island.
- Lupin III: The First
That might be a little hard to follow for folks who donât know the character but his name is ArsenĂ© Lupin the third and the movie title is The First.
Gonna just go with the anilist description here and say the story centres on Lupin teaming up with a woman named Leticia to steal the Bresson Diary, a treasure that even the first generation ArsĂšne Lupin could not steal., Simple heist plot but this shit was so damn cool, the craziest thing is that Lupin just looks like kinda dorky idk but he just so smooth with it. Not to be outshined by his gang thatâs not quite a gang, all utterly killing their respective roles of sword, charm, gun and somehow funnily enough the law.
I had unreasonably high expectations heading into this tbh, firstly because of the crisp animation I'd seen in trailers. Secondly, because after watching my first lupin movie last year, the blood spray of goemon ishikawa, and being absolutely blown out of the water, I unreasonably expected them to easily produce another master class. Thankfully I was not disappointed in the least, all my expectations were far surpassed and I'm even more excited to watch the rest of the movies and get into the main series.
- Millennium actress
A Satoshi Kon movie. If his name doesnât ring a bell his other movies, Perfect Blue and Paprika usually do for anime fans and regardless iâd recommend them.
The story here is that a documentary film maker is interviewing a legendary actress that disappeared at the height of her career. Like most Satoshi films I've seen till this point, it neatly blends the lines between illusion and reality but this is still the first normal Satoshi Kon movie I've seen until this point. Very touching and ironically down to earth given the intentional blurring of reality by the characters themselves. I definitely preferred this to both perfect blue and paprika, I think mostly because of how whimsical the fantasies of the characters were here, as opposed to the darker more dissective nature of Perfect Blue and Paprika. I mean those were pretty solid movies but I guess thatâs how it usually goes? Like yh what a wicked and ironic comment bro, now try saying something true and beautiful⊠still solid movies but yh..
- Angelâs Egg
This was actually my 3rd attempt to watch this movie in like 4yrs. Still don't know what I watched so I couldn't even give you a real synopsis. And I still can't figure why it seems so highly rated.. I definitely get that it's aesthetically pleasing, Yoshitaka Amano having done the art. but there's like 10 lines of dialogue,, and sure there's some cool existential bits but that's like 3 out of the 10 lines. To each their own but man⊠idkâŠ
- Tokyo godfathers
Another Satoshi Kon film, actually didnât realise until I started it and saw the art and was like, âis this Satoshi?â And yh it was Satoshi.
The plot here is three homeless folks find an abandoned baby girl on Christmas eve and try to reunite her with her mother. No fantasy or anything really, just some very real shit, teared up and almost cried at one bit tbh. Brilliant visual direction as expected but I actually found the sound direction a bit odd idk,,. Still, it easily became my fav Satoshi Kon movie like half hour in.
And thatâs it for stuff watched this month, much love and thanks if you're still here, I'm gonna ramble a little bit more after this but the main part of the episode is done now so,, love and peace and safe travels đ€đż

Top 8 Anime (That I've Seen) in 2022
Whew boy, I wasn't expecting last year to be such a whirlwind, but all that doesn't matter now when there's Weeb stuff afoot! For those who are unfamiliar, when I make an End-of-the-year list, I like to do so without handcuffing myself to JUST the releases of the previous year. If you are familiar, you guys know that I typically keep to the usual Top 10 (except that one year when it was 12), but as you can see, I only had time to fit in 8.
Rules:
- If an anime had already made it onto a previous list, a newer season can't make it on.
- I only keep to TV series, so no movies.
- No repeating franchises (i.e. if I saw two different Gundam shows in one year, I can only pick one).
- I'm skipping Honorable mentions this year.
8. Tales of Zestiria (2016)
Definitely not my favorite Tales story, but BOY was this show pretty to look at. Ufotable is what Ufotable does, I guess. Truth be told, I couldn't get into the game that this anime is based on, so I figured that watching the anime would be easier. And it was!
7. Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out (2020)
Ah, yes, one of those shows that upset Twitter. I thought this was an adequately told Rom-Com with our two leads having some decent chemistry together. Looking past the "controversy," it was a perfectly serviceable show.
6. Amagami SS (2010)
This was my surprise of the year. This Slice of Life Romance accomplishes a rare feat amongst its peers: Every girl gets a happy ending! You see, our male protag starts out depressed and lonely, develops a relationship with one of the girls over a 3 episode arc, and then starts all over again. Not only that, but during each arc, the camera shows how the other girls are living their lives and they do just fine without him. Maybe I'm not phrasing it the way I want to, but it's just refreshing showing potential love interests living fulfilling lives without Protag-kun. It does, however, lose points for having some questionable moments with its high school cast of characters. Based on a visual novel btw.
5. Komi Can't Communicate (2021)
I can't be the only one who rolls their eyes whenever a story about an average guy gains the affection of the most popular girl in school. I'm, of course, not rolling my eyes at the premise itself, but rather the quantity of stories like this. This story in particular saves itself by having our titular character stumble their way to success despite their crippling social anxiety. I find it both funny and endearing. I look forward to season 2!
4. Recovery of an MMO Junkie (2017)
Speaking of season 2, I wish this anime had one. I may have mentioned this before about a different anime, but I do find it to be a breath of fresh air whenever we have protagonists who are actually adults. A nerd in their thirties looking for love? Couldn't be me đ
3. March Comes in Like a Lion (2016)
I still don't know how Shogi is played, heck I don't even have a handle on Chess, but anyone who has ever seen March Comes in Like a Lion knows that's not why we're here. Again, not Shogi specifically, but knowing that people, regardless of age, have weight of some kind on their shoulders, it's such a shame that that weight is on a character so young. Expectations, anxiety, loneliness; all that can be overwhelming for anybody. I would definitely recommend anyone to seek this out. Bonus, it has music from Bump of Chicken!
2. Spy X Family (2022)
I'm sure most of you guys have seen this. You know.
I'm sure there's still plenty of people who haven't seen this yet. It's Everywhere. You guys STILL know.
This show was the right amount of wholesome I needed last year!
1. Mushoku Tensei (2022)
I would probably have to do some more thinking, but this might be my favorite isekai thus far. Has a well built world AND has utilized the whole reincarnation aspect better than most isekai anime. I would go into it more, but I think I'll make that its own post.
This was a bit late, but at least it's still January, right? Hopefully, I'll be in a better head space this year to make a full Top 10.
Make the best of this new year and stay safe out there.

woo it's payday
listening
joywave, one of my favorite bands put out a experimental collab album. it's taking a bit to grow on me but i do like The Carousel. this man is simply having a fucking blast on this fucking carousel. starts off with some synth..stings??? that feel very much like they could back a mall fashion show. or, better yet, imagine a 2005 chick flick about a small town girl moving to the big apple and accidentally becoming a supermodel. this would be the backing track when she finally nails her walk. spotlights, sophistication through understated vibes, frictionless, etc. spotify.

reading
shotgunned five volumes of spy x family sunday night and i am now deeply invested in this simp. this is just a very silly slowburn slice of life. epitome of curtainfic

watching
gave Afro Samurai (2007, Gonzo) the ol' two-episode try and simply was not vibing. it more than delivers on the samurai and afro parts of its title and is very stylish (complimentary). i think it deserves its emmys, it has a really lovely sense of constant motion without getting muddy and the fights are fun to watch. the sprinkling of high-tech futurism in what would otherwise be a very ordinary samurai anime is fun.
however it is SIGNIFICANTLY gorier than i expected.
if you looked at these screencaps and thought "hey that sounds like something Samuel L Jackson would say" congrats he's in this, bc it was 2007 and we had not yet exhausted our appetite for making Samuel L Jackson say things like this. we must also remember it is from 2007, so it rates VERY highly on the weeb portion of the Weeb-Ass-Shit scale.
that specific combo of gory weeb shit simply wasn't the mood on friday night and i don't think i'll come back to it. not for me! sad! oh well there's other anime!
how'd i find this: the wonders of tubi

playing
organ attack is a medical-themed last-one-standing card game where each person starts out with four organs and a hand of five attack and defense cards. most are tailored towards a specific organ (eg the NOSEBLEED card i pulled first) but some are more general like CANCER or NECROSIS. it took about an hour with six people bc it got down to a real drag-out nasty threeway fight at the very end. the style is what you see on the box and is not gross-out nasty.
hysterically fun to play with a bunch of nurses, and even if you don't have an established friendgroup of nurses to insert yourself into it's very funny to say shit like "i'm giving your teeth cancer, hand 'em over". if you are playing with normal able-bodied folks i would not recommend saying "haha i have that!" every time someone puts a relevant card down. the normies really didn't like that.

Hi....If you don't mind, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
hi itâs been a while! i love getting asks from you because it lets me ramble about my favourite things, it makes me so happy so thank you!!! i hope you know how much joy you bring <3
(iâm sorry i havenât replied to your last top 10 ask, i started the list and it got so humiliating that iâm unable to look at it again.)
anyway âtop 10 mediaâ is a broad question, so i have picked the top 10 media i love to ramble about. the kind where i could talk for hours about each one. are these objectively my favourites? maybe not. are they even good? only like half of them. but they certainly are top. enjoy!!
top 10 media of all time (not ranked):
1. tgcf (novel)
its still too early to say if this is a permanent top 10, but it has consumed my life for the better part of a year so it gets on this list. i have difficulty describing tgcf, itâs not particularly an excellent novel by many metrics, but it gives me endless satisfaction â the breadth of the story, spanning hundreds of years and a broad range of plotlines, plus the incredible depth of each moment, with sensitivity and humanity behind every hilarious-ridiculous-bombastic moment. i keep finding new things with every new chapter i annotate, even on my 4th/5th read. itâs rare that a piece of media gives me so much to think about, iâm just trying to savour the enjoyment for as long as it lasts.
2. the untamed/éæ
什 (tv show)
oh man what can i say about the untamed. what can i NOT say about the untamed. the show i resisted for two years before finally being pushed into it. and i have been hurtling down the danmei rabbit hole ever since. for all that it was my intro to danmei and into the modern cdrama fandom, it really is SO MUCH just on its own. i daresay no tv show will ever be able to deliver such pure insanity juice straight to my brain ever again. deserves its spot. show of all time.
3. fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood (anime + manga)
i was a weeb for YEARS. consumed hundreds if not thousands of episodes of anime and manga. and this is the only one that stuck. obviously a masterpiece of storytelling. i revisit this constantly. i love stories that can be grim but still hopeful and endlessly sincere. also if you canât tell iâm a huge sucker for stories where the side characters clearly have their own histories and relationships outside of what we get to see, and fmab has that for ages.
4. the legend of korra (tv show)
i cannot in good conscience say that i like this show. if you asked for my opinion, i would complain in your ear for an hour straight, minimum. (i have done this. multiple times. donât ask me about the legend of korra.) and yet it is the piece of media i think about the most, that i have dedicated the most of my writing to, that i rewatch most often. lok aired when i was 13-17 and i grew up with it on tumblr. the people i followed and the things they talked about shaped how i interact with fandom today. maybe one day i will be able to move on, but this one has a sure spot in my top 10.
5. sense8 (tv show)
this one i can wholeheartedly recommend to any queer person trying to grow up in the world. yes, the orgies are gratuitous, the first season has some 2014 cliches, and overall who cares about the plot. but itâs such an unabashed expression of queer joy and unconditional love. thereâs something so comforting in the idea that other people will volunteer to share your pain, your happiness, and your loneliness. that everyone in the world is connected by their ability to feel, to laugh, to scream, to cry, to loveâ you are only as alone as you let yourself be. this show carried me through so many dark times and helped me to keep believing in people. maybe iâve outgrown my need for this show now, but i will always love sense8.
6. my ajusshi/my mister (kdrama)
is it one of the best kdramas ever made? yes. am i also incredibly biased because itâs IU? also yes. i strongly recommend it if you have the patience. this drama is slow and melancholy and washed out, its characters are weary and cynical and not always kind to each other. but that is precisely the point, because the drama dusts off their dull, exhausted lives and finds within them something worth living for. sometimes itâs enough to know that you have the power to make someone elseâs life better. you might have lost the love of your life, but you have a spare mattress in your bedroom for a scared, lonely girl to sleep on. you might have lost your marriage, but you have enough money to pay for an old womanâs funeral. your career might be going nowhere, but you can be the cheerleader and inspiration for a silly woman that loves you. you might be a gang of sad, broke, middle-aged failures, but you can all walk a young woman home together and make her night a little less dark. my ajusshi is not an easy drama to watch, but similar to sense8, itâs one that gives me hope.
7. the k2 (kdrama)
firmly convinced that tumblr is sleeping on this drama. it is so absolutely batshit feral unhinged. let women be a mess!!! let women be so wrong!!! let women scheme and threaten and fight and manipulate, while the man looks on with protective anxiety and/or dead-eyed absolute competency. let a woman run barefoot through the streets of spain in a nightgown, tears streaming down her face. let a woman past her prime be psychosexually obsessed with her stepdaughterâs bodyguard whom she is locked in a blackmail revenge plot with. let him lead her at gunpoint into a car so he can escape the standoff, only for it to become a car chase with her enemies, and for him to flip the vehicle over. let him walk back into the burning car to carry her out.
8. man of steel (movie)
not gonna lie havenât rewatched those one in a while! but officially my #1 favourite movie if anyone asks. i have moved on from capeshit but this movie still has everything i love: a world that breathes, people that live in it, and a clear message of hope despite how bleak things might seem.
9. rogue one (movie)
i mean. i mean. it says something that i was working on my (planned out, the story exists fully formed in my head) tgcf rogue one au when i opened up my writing notes and found that at some point last year i had written an entire mdzs rogue one au. brilliant. unparalleled. so blessed that this movie got to exist in between the endless cash grabs that are the other movies. as a star wars fan since age 13, i can say with full assurance this is the only star war that matters actually.
10. the infernal devices (novel series)
not sure if iâve mentioned this series on this blog before, but to this day itâs one of my favourite YA series. yes it is your standard cliche fantasy series but it has will herondale, the best payoff to the typical angsty brooding male lead to ever exist. writers try to justify brooding characters like âthey have valid reasons to be that way, deep down theyâre really loving blah blahâ but this series takes that and delivers. because the moment will is free from the legitimate reason he was acting that way, he is bursting at the seams to show his love. he runs to the girl he loves and tells her he loves her. he tells the woman who raised him that sheâs awesome. he spends the rest of his life so, so incandescently happy, simply because he gets to love the people he loves. also the ending of the second book is possibly one of the wildest cliffhangers for a love triangle ever. i clearly love to have an Experience while consuming a piece of media.
(if youâve read til here, thank you for reading and letting me ramble some of the words that go through my brain endlessly. if youâve ever consumed and enjoyed any of the things iâve mentioned, please feel absolutely welcome to message or dm me, i am dead serious about being able to talk about these for hours. in fact i would love to. please)
#asks#tgcf#cql#faves#lok#rambling#top 10 media of all time is so broad so i just picked. what do i WANT to write about#top 10 media that just lives rent free in my mind#there are things i love more and better but in terms of#does it give me brain chemicals.#do i cradle thoughts of these characters in my head like a baby#what gives me the brain chemicals#this took so long to write and i am so sleep deprived so iâm sorry if it is very incoherent#ily

Vikings and Short-stacks
So a friend of mine began reading Vinland Saga. I'm an anime only and recently finished season 2, so they quite quickly got past where I'm up to and we talked about it, which led me to figure out why I'm not a big fan of Vinland Saga.
For clarity, I'm not saying I don't like it. I think it does a lot of things well. In particular, I really liked the dynamic between Askeladd and Thorfinn, and the time it takes to really flesh out Ketil for the "there's no such thing as a good/kind slave owner" moment. But all the things I liked just made me more confused why I didn't like it as much as I've seen other people like it. Like, another friend of mine thought it's one of the best stories ever and I just, don't feel like it's anywhere close.
Now I've been part of the weeb community long enough to know that calling any manga or anime someone likes anything less than a masterpiece is asking for a fight. So I'll preface this by saying everything that follows is my own personal opinion:
The conclusion I came to was that Vinland Saga seems to have no narratively distinct style.
The way you tell a story matters just as much as the story you're telling. If I use Last of Us 2 as an example (a game I really enjoyed), I felt like the only thing I would change is the order in which you play Abby and Ellie. If you played as Abby first, you'd only find out why Ellie was hunting her in the middle of the game, which I think would have been a great "oh shit" moment. (obviously it makes sense why they didn't do this. Abby is more aggressive and combat focused than Ellie's survival and stealth style, meaning gameplay gets more intense later in the game, and people probably wouldn't be happy that you couldn't play as either character from the first game until halfway through the game). What information you give the audience and when you give it is important for how they understand the plot, setting and characters, which in turn effects their investment and interest. To paraphrase Idiocracy, it's important to know who's arse it is, and why it's farting.
So writers do a bunch of things like various POVs, timeskips, flashbacks, and just general dialog to keep you engaged and informed. That way you can keep the pace of the story going, whilst still getting the audience to care about these characters and the situations they're in. Shounen does a lot of things that I can't really enjoy anymore (having seen them done to death), but it does this particularly well. Like how in Demon Slayer it weaves the backstory of the Demons into each fight so you don't have to pause any of the balls to the wall action, or how Dr Stone does flashbacks to Senku's dad or him making stuff to save time.
Vinland Saga doesn't do a lot of this at all. It shows a flashback about Thorfinn's dad's past and some setting stuff through Canute, but doesn't focus on those characters at all for anything other than adding to the current reason why Thorfinn's having a bad time. Most of the story follows Thorfinn's POV in pure chronological order, and it does so for a gruelling 48 episodes, approximately 16 hours of content (if you skip OPs and EDs, which you shouldn't, because Vinland Saga has some good ones, like Aimer's Torches).
Because of this chronological order, we basically have Thorfinn in angry revenge mode for 20 odd episodes, and hollow shell of a person for another 12 or so. And from a narrative perspective, both Empty Shell and Edgy McEdgeface are archetypes that can definitely work and can be explored interestingly (as examples, for empty shell there's characters like Anthy from Utena, Shin from 86, and arguably Shinji from NGE; for edgelords there's Guts from Beserk, Emiya Kiritsugu (not Shirou) from Fate/Zero, and Eren from AoT, etc). But the story doesn't explore Thorfinn as a character until like, the episode when he remembers Vinland exists? He's the protagonist and he barely has a personality for 12 hours. Stories like that live and die by the strength of the supporting cast (like Askeladd and Einar) and the intrigue about the world and plot. But the characters, while having some depth, don't have a lot? And they keep getting killed off (RIP Arnheid).
There's an old adage that you should start a story in the middle, because most of the setup and build up is pretty boring for the audience. After 48 episodes, I finally feel like we're at the beginning of Thorfinn's actual story, and tbh, there's not enough to keep me engaged.
TL;DR: Thorfinn's story is told in such an exhaustingly chronological way that I can't stay engaged
Or maybe I just don't like slowburn idk

ok heads up tumblr is glitching for me so i cannot see the text I am typing : Okay i feel like i know pretty well by now how you feel abt some of our shared faves BUT i am curious for more detail abt Link and Taylor heheheehe
HIIIIIIIIII Calsmonaut đđđ Thanks for the ask hope your phone gets well soon!!! :') Okay. time for Teen Boys!!!
Time for Lincoln Li-Wilson! Pissfoot Gumtoucher SUPREME!!! He's SO much. He is truly just trying his best to hold it all together and in the process he's starting to lose his hope and optimism and feeling and god he's so tired and he's becoming so apathetic and I am going to CRY đđđ they can't keep doing this to my boy!!! It's SO fucking hard to be the Protective Paladin when the only friends you've ever had are self destructing or taking shots at you or having a complete breakdown or all three at once!!! But he tries nonetheless. And I love him SO much for that and I want to give him the biggest warmest hug <3
And now, the one, the only (musicians? do i look like someone who knows what those are) Taylor Swift! I truly think this boy has so much more depth to him than meets the eye and I felt SOOOOO fucking vindicated by last episode. BIG win for Swifties everywhere imo â€ïž He's so loyal and dedicated and very out of touch with reality and I love that for him. Truly the weeb kid ever I'm rotating him in my brain at EXTREME speeds. Also it's very fun to make up anime re-adaptations for him to obsess over. And while I personally believe Taylor is a certified fashion disaster I love that about him soooo dearly he's giving the cringe but free teen rep that we need!!! No bingo though sorry buddy </3
Okay that's. Both of them hehe :DDD
#lincoln somehow wound up being the easiest teen for me to write which is??? a thing i guess??? genuinely idk how that happened#and taylor is by far the hardest for me and i think that's bc he's so Immersed in his shounen fantasy that it's. a bit difficult#to get into his headspace without it sounding ingenuine? which i get is like. the entire Point of that schtick#but goddamnit i wanna know how that kid ticks!!! thanks to ep 31 though. he's at least processed one (1) emotion#so ig i have that going for me!!!#anywho. thinkin thoughts but i love them both. so much. my silly little guys im making them kiss đđđ#thanks for the ask lovebird!!!#ask game#dndads

CANONICALLY QUEER ANIME CHARACTERS THAT I REMEMBERED BUT WEREN'T ON THIS ARTICLE'S LIST:
Date Masamune Daley Wong Motoko Kusanagi Jakotsu Toru Shiro & Saya Monou Toya Kinomoto & Yukito Tsukishiro Tomoyo Daidouji Subaru Sumeragi & Seishiro Sakurazuka Utena Tenjou & Anthy Himemiya Juri Arisugawa & Shiori Takatsuki Suletta Mercury & Miorine Rembran Kenjiro Hato Sailor Uranus & Sailor Neptune Fatora Venus & Alielle
Have these poor otaku not heard of Date Masamune? Famously bisexual historical figure with MANY anime and videogame portrayals? Half his dialogue with Sanada Yukimura in "Sengoku Basara" (2009-2011) is just flirting. Heck, last year, I saw a little kids' anime with a Date Masamune cat whose whole gimmick is having a crush on the male main character cat! I just watched episode 6 to refresh my memory, and Masamunya is daydreaming about marrying Nyanpire!
And what about Daley Wong? He is canonically gay. Do otaku these days not know about "Bubblegum Crisis"???? That was standard issue anime watching when I got into anime! A fundamental scifi series! It even got a remake, "Bubblegum Crisis 2040", which didn't change Daley's openly gay status.
Motoko Kusanagi from "Ghost in the Shell" is canonically gay. The movies may skip over that, but the longer format series usually show her girlfriends or have her coworkers mention what a womanizer she is. I'm a little confused about that episode where she talked about having a childhood crush on a boy---the one who was hesitant about getting a prosthetic body because they weren't dexterous enough to make origami cranes at the time---while the rest of the series seems to portray her as a lesbian. So I'm not 100% sure if she's gay or bi.
There's also Jakotsu from Inuyasha. Not a regular character, but part of the Shichinintai (Band of Seven) who were reoccurring antagonists for several episodes until they were defeated. Maybe a little stereotypey, but a canonically openly gay anime character.
CLAMP has several gay couples. Unfortunately they do like to use them for tragedy, unrequited love, and the "bury your gays" trope.
We've got "X" (series known as "X/1999" in English localization) with Toru and Saya. A lesbian couple so in love that when it was prophesied that Toru would die, giving birth to the Sacred Sword at the Togakushi Shrine, Saya found a loophole, married the Shinto priest at Togakushi Shrine to ensure she would constantly be at that location, and thus became the one who died instead of Toru, giving birth to the Sacred Sword. I think the anime changed things so that Saya said she fell in love with her husband Kyogo Monou instead, or downplayed her feelings for Toru, or something I'm misremembering, but I grew up with CLAMP's manga, and that's what I go by. Besides, the plot later explains that the whole reason Saya's spirt ended up in the Sea of Tears is because she married a man she didn't love, while fully knowing that she was in love with another woman instead.
"Cardcaptor Sakura" has several queer couples. We've got Toya and Yukito. The teacher Toya dated before Yukito, could see the future, and she specifically broke up with Toya because she foresaw he would fall in love more deeply with Yukito in the future. And when she and Toya met again, she asked Toya if he was happy (being with Yukito), and he said yes. Unless I'm misremembering, the manga also has a panel or 2 explaining that Tomoyo was coincidentally repeating her mother's unrequited sapphic crush on Sakura's mother, by she herself having an unrequited sapphic crush on Sakura. But I just checked the Wiki and there was apparently a lot of weird editing mistakes in the manga that made Tomoyo seem straight, and then CLAMP had to use several interviews and future manga issues to clear up that Tomoyo's crush was actually on Sakura. O.o
I've had "Tokyo Babylon" on my shelf for years, but haven't finished the manga or the anime disks that I bought. lol But from my understanding, that whole series is steeped in the crush between the male leads, Subaru and Seishiro. And then it culminates in "X", because that series was a crossover continuation of several CLAMP series. During "Tokyo Babylon", Seishiro has this hidden omen running in his family about being destined to be killed by the person he loves the most. Within "X", Seishiro is killed by Subaru.
And how can we forget "Revolutionary Girl Utena"? Even if the series doesn't outright state them as gay, the whole series is built around their romance and then the movie has them out-right kiss. And it's not an accident situation or an animation that happens for only 2 frames, or something. It's an actual, romantic kiss, center-frame, as the resolution of that movie. Also Juri and Shiori are doing some unrequited things that I can't remember. But I remember Shiori being kind of toxic in the movie, like she was trying to make Juri jealous?
Speaking of Utena, "Gundam: the Witch From Mercury" is often compared to following Utena's outline, right down to the sapphic couple at the center. The series is still going, and I haven't been able to watch all the episodes so far, but if they truly homage Utena, they will advance from all their romance tropes between Suletta and Miorine, into hopefully an outright declaration of queer love. Here's hoping. <3
Can we count Kenjiro Hato from "Genshiken: Second Generation"? Because I don't know if they're "canonically" queer or not. Do we count them as "canonically" queer if they don't state they're queer? So much of that series is Hato still trying to figure out how they feel about crossdressing, about Harunobu Madarame, and being a fudanshi. I can't remember if Hato ever came to terms with any conclusions about themself. I can't remember if Hato ever definitely stated being in love with Madarame, or just spent all that time not quite understanding their own feelings. Is Hato a trans egg? Or is Hato genderfluid? Or did they just never figure that out about themself? Does Hato still identify as "male" by the end of the series? I don't remember! (But I'm sorry the series framed how Yoshitake treated you as a joke, because that was really uncomfortable.)
And how did I forget Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune? So famously gay, that when the first English dub tried to censor their relationship for the localization, it just turned into awkward "cousin loving cousin" dubs.
Almost forgot Princess Fatora and Alielle from "El Hazard: The Magnificent World". One of the first isekai genre series I watched. Fatora doesn't appear for most of the series, since she is a prisoner of the antagonists. But her girlfriend, Alielle, is in most of the OAV series. I remember them being very clearly lesbians, and after Fatora is rescued, I think they spent a lot of the sequel series chasing around the other girls in the cast.

2020 Highlights
I guess it'd be an understatement to say that 2020 was a really awful year, given the devastating effects of the global pandemic and the innumerable disasters and issues happening in our country. I think we got jinxed with our "2020, please be good to me" posts đ
We all started that year still not knowing about the presence of COVID-19, and from then on, it all went pretty downhill after that. From everything that has happened in my life and others', I can frankly say that 2020 was actually the worst đ However, while reflecting on it, I can also count some bright days. I guess it wouldn't hurt to kind of celebrate the good ones during that horrible year, eh?
I fully acknowledge that so many lives were (and still are) at stake and just trying to get through that year wasn't easy for us -- even much more for others. I also know that terrible things can still happen regardless if there's a pandemic or not. But I too still acknowledge that despite the horrible year, there were actually bits in my life, however small or big they seem, that remind me to keep moving forward and get through the day no matter how mentally and emotionally challenging 2020 had been.
So I just want to share some of the good highlights I had that kept me sane during that dreadful year, without seeming tone-deaf or tactless:
HK & Macau Trip
Litrato mula sa sandaling bago mag sakuna??  Wow pre-COVID days na we were still not stuck in our homes? and still be able to travel?? Gosh I miss those days đÂ
Anyway, this was my first time in Macau and second time in Hong Kong! We went back a year after our first HK trip because our fam loves it there. What I most especially like in HK is its easy-peasy convenient public transportation system -- which, I reckon, is a huge factor why we wanted to visit again since it's less hassle to go to many different places. Macau though, has one of the most beautiful and extravagant-looking architecture and interiors (we only visited a whole day because too laysho for my layf LOL).Â
With High Honors
I don't have a photo to share for this highlight (well I actually have a few but for privacy reasons I wish not to nalang) but I'm really so happy to know that my hard-earned efforts led to the expected performance and reward! I remember back in JHS I made a deal to myself that if I ever belong in the Top 10, I'll treat myself with a large Sbarro lasagna! HAHAHAH grabe noh kana ra jud haha it's been long since I last ate one (gi dibdib jud ang deal ba) and I actually haven't treated myself one after the recognition program. When everything starts to settle down I hope to get myself one!! hihi (I can only imagine how the food tastes better after not eating it for years!)
Happy Birthday to me!
I turned 19 on May 19th! Ew, I am growing old. Just the thought of me turning 20 this year makes me puke đ chz. But this is obviously worth celebrating because I am blessed with the gift of life and the time to celebrate it with my family <3Â
Passed UPCAT
MOM, I PASSED UPCAT! AAAAHHHHH Well this is unexpected as someone who just skrrrt-ed my way through the Math part and didn't even finish half of it! Luck doesn't always favor me but I'm happy that I got lucky in this đ I feel like I don't deserve it but still, thank you so much, Lord!
The Weeb Life
If there's one thing to describe what I did the whole time while I was just at home, I would say... BINGING ANIME! My fave anime characters are my fave fictional companions during quarantine huhu I'm so glad I started watching anime (and reading manga) this year. Honestly at first it wasn't really my cup of tea after watching some anime recommendations but then I tried watching one episode of Attack on Titan and after that MY LIFE STARTED TO CHANGE (HAHAHA OA kaayo noh).
There were actually days and moments I did not include in my highlights that gave me a sense of strength and purpose while coping everything that had happened that year. But I wish to just keep it to myself for these are my little personal winning moments hihi.Â
Albeit this "wasted" year of mostly spending my days within four-cornered walls, 2020 was actually a year of learning and growth for me. I just hope this year everything will eventually get better for all of us and we'll no longer have to get by with those community quarantine classifications đ
Love, Andie

-i mean he did punch you but thats besides the point.
-"egg is perfect" me when i make a real runny sunny side up
-allriggghttt rebels moment. the're the purple one, don't know her name but know her face.
-SHE'S NOT A CAT?
-also the palm trees awakening them like sleeper agents what. oh they were there before eggman destroyed everything? so i guess what changed is that sonic was just never there to stop him or to unite their friendgroup
-"blue guy" the robot said his name Rouge!
-soundtrack goes hard though
-stresstest compilationa aside, rouge and knuckles to the rescue alright!
-IT'S A TOUPEE?? should've guessed.
-I really want to know how amy got evil. why is she siding with eggman?
-... woah. there's no way that didn't kill people. also ahah i love knuckles. HELL YEAH CIVILIAN UPRISING.
-I get really weirded out everytime they mention it's NYC because it means that the forest with palm trees and mountains Sonic usually lives in is also technically NYC.
-"we gotta join the resistance" hell yeah.
-yeah they gotta explain the difference between paradox and chaos prism. and also now im wondering why shadow is not here- IS SHADOW THE BATTERY? no ok they said it's a crystal. That's the third name for one of those things they've said I don't like it.
-good last words joke lol
-yeah tails looks naked every time i see him.
-the little ear twitch oh lord im weak
-banger entrance
-"eggforcers" lol
-it's like he has low blood sugar. is that what the rings do for him?
-I'm confused on what Nine is tryign to do hacking that. also cool shit with the tails.
-has no one ever seen a edghog? because they identify all the others as the correct animal first try except him... and Amy. What IS amy??
-OH WOW ep 1 was like 50 minutes and this one barely 30??? that felt.. really short. Sonic is about the get fucking murked and then ending credits??? that was weird.
I'll do EPISODE 3 here.
-ok no NOW it's a prism again. also I saw how many episodes there are here and uuuuh I might have overshor my ability to liveblog things.
-back to to the others' pov I see. I love Amy with her hammer. Rose felt weird fighring with her fists.
-"hate to hit and run" i love you you unsufferable idiot.
-that rabbit thing keeps showing up and im starting to think he's important.
-OOOH that's what Nine was doing.
-oh the fact she can just be controlled... is she even Amy anymore? ship of theseus kinda sitaution.
-The laser still going around im gonna cry thats so funny
-INTERNATIONAL?
-KNUCKS?
-Him smiling while Rose says she kills people who don't comply
-I love that Nine started running BEFORE telling them where to go.
-Is sonic finally putting 2 and 2 together? Mayhaps.
-I'm with you Sonic. It IS actually cool.
-I really like the fight scenes they look cool.
-that highfive jsut changed nine's entire life
Sonic: *highfives him*
Nine: "I no longer wanna kill myself"
-ALL OF THEM CAN DO THAT??? THE SPINNY THIGN???
-Dr Deep is a fucking millenial weeb isn't he?
-are... are nine's physical tails thinner than Tails'?
-I love speedster slowmo scenes. This one lacks cool music but it makes up for that with the solemnity of it.
-Oh baby's back. He's gonna regret asking for the old man isn't he?
-they're not doing the infinity symbol over his legs anymore :(
-these sequences really do look like videogame levels. I did no research so it might just be an adaptation of a specific sonic game.
-ok Big and Froggy. Is he realizing?? finally? is he?
-oh hey the infinity is back
-"I gotta help my friends" eh they can handle themselves. and if you have that thing you can rewrite reality so
-oh... it's not the right prism... was it broken? is that what happened? noooo did he end up in a world where he never existed? jsut on accident? how would he have CREATED it? why would breaking the prism do this? are they all over this universe or are there more? and why does sonic have the same energy signature?
-DUDE HURRY UP
-NINE I TRISTED YOU
I'm watching Sonic prime because you can't give me multiverse and unlikely allies and think I won't watch it.
But this is the first piece of Sonic media I've ever consumed (sonic underground doesn't count cause I remember nothing of it, and neither do the films) so. Live blog lmao.
-"Shadow is... Complicated. More on that later" can't wait bro
-Ok rouge the bat is a good guy? I thought she was vaguely anti hero ish.
-what the fuck is a paradox emerald. I stopped at chaos emeralds. What's the difference? How are they created? This one was just... In a cave???
-"sonic boom of a headache" ah ah I see what you did there.
-whats with the knuckles slander!!!
-THATS NEW YORK??????
-so they're not allowed to talk to other people I guess?
-why are they making it seem like it's his shoes that make him fast????
-are rings currency? I was under the impression they were currency. Why is he looking for cash rn
-fickeis???
-he knows what smog is. How does he know what smog is. He lives in a forest.
.
.
Does he live in a forest? It's like... All green.
OH ITS WHAT EGGMAN WANTED! A WORLD RESEMBLING HIM AND NOT SONIC.
-What is the prism shatter??? Do they mean the paradox emerald? So sure they called it the paradox emerald and not the paradox prism.
-WHATS WITH THE TAILS SLANDER!!!
-Yes I know he insulted sonic as well but I think sonic deserved it in that moment.
-ok shadow was just. There. Dudes not even helping. You live here you asshole! Do your part!
-"Tails never gets upset" that's unhealthy!
-is 1992 the year the first sonic game came out? Something tells me that's the year Sonic's first game came out.
-...what's the difference between a trap and a trick?
-why Rouge! The only thing I know is that you're a cat!
-WHY ARE THEY CALLINF IT A PARADOX PRISM NOW?
-the fact the place IS called "the loop-de-loop" and it's not just what Sonic calls it is. Priceless.
-ngl I thought sonic was gonna be more... Sassy? Clever? WITTY! but no. He's a lot more like how I imagined Knuckles to be. Knuckles is my favorite btw. I know nothing of him other than he's vaguely mean and dumb. But not like Shadow's angsty edgy mean. More like a jock kinda mean.
-also no one explained why it's called the paradox prism. Or why Rouge knows what it is/that that's what Eggman was looking for.
-oh there you go end of flashback. Also where the FUCK is shadow. How later sonic? How much later?
-Rusty Rose?? That's Amy isn't it? Like Evil alternate universe Amy.
-i don't know who Babbles is.
-IS THAT A BOP IT?
-Ok no it isn't.
- I don't understand what the shoes malfunctioning means. Is his speed artificial??? Are they like Spider-man's web-shooters?
-EGGMAN IS A FATHER? WHO'S THE MOM???
-Also Rose said there were other rebels. Wonder if it's the same squad- oh they answered my question. Rouge is not Rebel. And I guess Knuckles is also a rebel. Don't know if Tails is gonna be good or not. Cause I remember seeing something about a Tails with robot... Tails.
-YOURE IN AN ALTERNATIVE UNIVERSE! WHY WOULD YOU THINK THINGS WOULD BE THE SAME.
-ok I was right. His name is... Nine? Also these episodes are really long.
-oh he still has the regular tails. It's more of a doc oc situation. I thought they were prosthetics.
-GEEZ "I was trained by the misery of life and this dark and heartless city" GEEZ
-gonna assume he's gonna be like "why'd you save me??? Why would you do this for me??"
-oh lord game footage that's cool as shit.
-sonic is not gonna pierce this together is he? And Nine is not gonna be like "yeah alright this guy is insane"
-MR.DR.EGGMAN. that's... Too much.
-Aww they're doing a little Tails bragging moment. Talking about how they're friends that's sweet.
-CHAOS COUNCIL? We're back to the chaos nomenclature??? what happened to the paradox shit? the hardest part of this is not that I don't have any sonic knowledge, it's that I have SOME sonic lore knowledge gained through osmosis and it's clashing with the lore that they're trying to establish in this cartoon.
-Nine is going for the full spider aesthetic huh?
-yeah. the tails are cool. I've always liked tails too, he's just too smart for me and i feel awkward when i don't understand him.
-COOL SHOES UPGRADE. Ok so the shoes are like... making it so that he doesn't explode due to the natural energy in his body, which i assume is what makes him fast. and that he'd be faster if he didn't have them, but also... more explode-y.
-HE ISN'T MISSING MEMORIES YOU IDIOT
-Oh the baby is back. I don't know how to feel about the baby.
-BLUE STREAK lol
-Ok that's an pixar's incredibles looking trap.
-OH SHIT SHE'S A ROBOT? oh not a robot. Rose is a cyborg and the way she talks about it amkes me sad.
-Nine??? is good or?? confused about his alliances.
-What. who. what. there's a whole family??? is... eggman their dad or?? who's the mom?
-of course he has hair in this "perfect" universe.
-are they like the chaos emeralds that can fuse to become the master emerald? and part of a whole??
-what's with casual dehumanization
-gosh he's such a dumbass but like an annoying one but also like indearingly so?
-I'm never gonna remember which eggaman is which. except babbles cause. yknow. toddler.
-omg the lasers effect is so ucking cool!! thay's a real nice scene ahhhh-
-they're like video games levels. alright. for now I'm really enying the visuals and the storytelling methods. on the story itself i'll see when it really gets going.
-oh no.
-ok I like the baby.
-OH THE PLOT THICKENS! the same energy as what powers the city? is the city powered by the emeralds? or by like- SHADOW??? IS THAT YOU-
-oh flashback 2. I don't know why but somethign about Tails' design looked... off. he felt naked. does he usually have like a scarf? goggles?
-Knuckled is just... hanging on the plane oh lord i'm dying.
-WHAT DO THE RINGS DO??? "in case eggeman gers in a lucky shot: rings" what??
-DOES SHADOW HAVE ROLLERBLADES?? ok he's raising on my list of favourite characters.

Could i possibly request number 10 for idia shroud? I just see this happening with weeb otaku man lol. Thx!
Missed Me?
Prompt: Person A cuddling with a body pillow, pretending that it's Person B and Person B finds out later.
Pairing: Idia x Gn! Reader Â
Warning: Fluff, gn! Reader, 2nd POV, and some insecurities.
Ever since you started hanging out with Idia, his walls slowly came down when it was just Ortho, him, and you; given exception if you all were at Board Game club which involved Azul. Idia was more expressive and you two would joke with a healthy amount of teasing, never crossing the line. The hangouts started turning into late gaming binges and show binging while Ortho noticed you two get closer and his brother being more expressive. Idia noticed that he liked your company, and those feelings grew into something more when he lent you one of his hoodies. His heart was beating nonstop, and his brain was malfunctioning a bit. When you asked him out, he was caught off guard and was broken for a couple seconds before realizing that you were waiting for a response which shyly, he told you he shared the same feelings. You two were introverts who were more than fine with just spending time with each other for long periods of time which you did a majority of your time. With you being around a majority of the time, Idia got used to having someone, besides Ortho and Azul, with him rather than being completely alone. That paradise was soon to be interrupted
For two weeks, you were going to attend to some sort of business at RSA and had to stay at their campus during that time. A lot of the boys werenât happy about it, mostly Idia. The night before you left, you two spent some time together to enjoy each otherâs presence before being away from each other and joking. Â
"You're leaving me for pretty normies,â Idia jokingly whined, holding you close Â
âNone of them can compete with you and your beautiful hair.â You kissed his forehead and held him close.
âI knew it, you only love me for my hair, canât blame you for it. Itâs fabulous.â He did an imaginary hair flip as you both laugh a bit before calming down. You both played video games and watched a couple episodes of an anime. During that time, you noticed Idia quieter than usual, and you cuddled closer and kissed his hand.
âAre you sure you want to be with me? They go out and socialize more than I do and... why did you choose to date me?â He asked before you sit up and guide his head for his ear to be against your chest.
âSir, listen to my heartbeat and focus on that for a while. I wanted to go out with you because you make me feel safe, no uneasiness or anxiety crawling at my feet, and out of all the individuals you think I would want to be with, I would rather spend the rest of my time here by your side as long as youâll have me.â
You kiss his lips as you two spent the rest of the night together before you left with Grim the next morning to RSA. You would always text him throughout the day and call him to fall asleep to the sound of him playing videogames. You both would rant about your day as the other listened, but that was postponed since Idia had a gaming event to complete and you had more work added to you pile of things to do while at RSA. The rest of your last week at RSA, you both were too busy until you came up with staying over for a night in his dorm when you got back which he immediately agreed to.
When you show up for your small date with Idia to see him asleep on his bed, you're relieved that he gets some sleep and set your bag down on his bean bag before sitting on the edge of his bed. Ortho kept you updated about Idia while he was busy and how he wasnât really sleeping as he usually does. You move his hair out of his face before immediately pulling your hand away as he cuddles more into the body pillow and mutter your name. Speaking of the body pillow, you looked closer to see a familiar shirt fashioning his grey body pillow then realizing that was one of your shirts you left here last time. Guess he did miss your presence while you were away. You chuckle quietly before running your hands through his luscious hair and kiss his head, enjoying this moment of peace. You get up to move the beanbag closer to the bed and went to work on something for class and after a while you hear Idia muttering something, you lean over to hear.
"I want to stay right here, cuddling with you, (Y/N)-chan. I love you, player 2~" He sleepily chattered, cuddling closer.
The temptation of taking a picture of your boyfriend being adorable as you gave him a loving gaze before going back to work for a bit then hearing him Â
âYouâre very endearing when youâre half-asleep.â You smile, typing away on your laptop before looking over at Idia, caught off guard and flustered while his hair turning a slight pink tone, rambling to himself then lowering his head to your level.
âI said what I said,â He grumbled before having a wide grin as he looked at you. âWhat you going to do about it?â
âI donât know, perhaps shower you with love and affection while we watch our show together?â
âHit me with your best shot.â You laughed and kissed his lips before pointing to the body pillow.
âGuess I have competition.â
âI was meant to take your shirt off that pillow. I didnât miss you at all, I lost the cover to the pillowcase and lost it in the laundry.â
âUh-huh, suuuurrrrree.â You said, taking your shoes off and got into his bed.
âYou literally have been back for less than a day and youâre making fun of me, your loving boyfriend.â He placed his hand over his heart, acting wounded before he realized you were lying in your usual spot on the bed, and you werenât just a figment of his imagination. â...I put the shirt on the body pillow because it smelled like you, and I did miss you.â
His face reddens when he saw your smug ass grin on your face before kissing you to whip it off of your face and buried his face in your neck, wrapping his arms around. You felt him slowly relax and him inhale then let out a sigh of relief. Your fingers found their way to his head as they ran through his hair. You yourself relaxed and kissed the top of his head as you were finally back in your small piece of heaven.
