Copenhagen comes from an idea from the immeasurably talented @jamiesfootball where Jamie comes onto the bus after the night in Amsterdam with a black eye. He jokes that Roy said to say it was an accident and plays it up because he thinks it's funny, but then the team and everyone genuinely thinks Roy hit him (he didn't, or it actually was an accident). So I changed it a bit so they are playing in Copenhagen, and Roy's in a bad mood, so Jamie makes him spend the night in a similar fashion as they did in Amsterdam and gets on the bus with a black eye. Roy is upset because no one believes him, and then more upset when he realises that they actually don't have a reason to believe him, given their history.

Here is a snippet!

“Did you headbutt him again?” Nate asked tentatively, his voice reaching a pitch Roy hadn’t heard in a while.  “What? No,” Roy said dismissively, not turning to the former kit man.  “Hey, listen, Coach,” Beard said, finally pulling Roy’s attention. “You can’t do that anymore. We get you two bump heads sometimes, but you’re the manager now, so you gotta lay off with the whole hitting Jamie thing.” The vein in Roy's neck threatened to burst. “I didn’t fucking hit him.” “Roy,” Beard said mockingly. “We can see the black eye.” Nate shifted uncomfortably in his seat and Roy did the same, adjusting his bad knee, sore from a night spent biking and walking.  “It. Was. An. Accident,” Roy said slowly.

Rip Ted Lasso cheesy sitcom filler episodes. Roy’s 40th birthday episode where he grapples with mortality while everyone runs around trying to throw him a surprise party…Ted and Beard double date episode…flashback episode with the original actors but different haircuts…bottle episode in the locker room!!

YES LITERALLY LITERALLY LITERALLY ....

- X rated Will Kitman antics episode. Drugs. Sex. Booze. Gambling. And he shows up at work the next day looking cute as a button :)

- Team Bonding Trip to a countryside retreat of some kind goes horribly wrong. The boys end up sleeping four to a bed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory grandparents style, it pours rain the entire time, the power goes out, etc. Of course at the end they wind up having a great time and come out stronger as a team, but it's touch and go for a while because Jamie can't blowdry his hair

- Phoebe and Keeley girls' day out episode!!! Roy doesn't come up once, they talk about vampires all day in various scenic locations around London

- Anthology episode where the bus breaks down in a storm and Ted suggests they tell spooky stories while they wait for the tow truck. I know everyone hates anthology episodes but I think they're fun

(Bumbercatch's story is borderline incomprehensible and really more of a conspiracy theory about the Cars franchise than a story. Nate's story is about a guy whose dad is disappointed in the choices he's made for himself. Dani's story is about a ghost dog haunting the person who killed him by sneaking up and biting his nuts while he has his eyes closed in the shower, and it becomes increasingly clear that this is a very real fear he has about Earl. Roy's story of course is so violent and graphic that everyone is genuinely terrified, and Ted has to step in with a campy cowboy ghost story that culminates in a tense silence broken by Beard yelling out and jumpscaring everyone)

- 00s party boy Roy flashback ep (Brett Goldstein in a wig as you said. Obviously)!!!!!!! Near the end he scores some momentous goal and we see Georgie and baby Jamie in a Kent kit celebrating in front of the TV lol

Jamie spending so much time with Roy and visibly being so close to Roy that even Roy’s little niece takes note and ensures he’s invited to their Uncle’s Day celebration as Uncle Roy’s best friend, YET Jamie still being surprised, flattered and excited several episodes later when Roy does something as simple as invite him out for a beer, because that’s clearly something that’s unprecedented—the first opportunity to hang out as friends without any guise of it being for football—is just soooooo!! The implications are so silly. Roy definitely spent the entire season framing every interaction he had with Jamie around “work” and “training” even when he really just needed to be around someone (well, specifically around Jamie) because his ass couldn’t just admit he likes having Jamie around. We know from the show he showed up at least once in the evening for “once more before dinner” (Roy…it was literally dark outside and you’d already had Jamie running around twice that day. be forreal)

…so anyway! Roy bringing dinner over to Jamie’s 4 nights a week and it’s really because he doesn’t want to eat alone and having his meals with Jamie is just better, but he still disguises it every time as “well I obviously need to make sure your nutrition is sound and you are eating enough and the right things this is a very important part of your training. I am doing you a crucial service.” Roy bringing Jamie along with him when he watches Phoebe because Phoebe and Jamie adore each other, but Roy “makes” him show her some footie tricks in his back garden and claims it’s because “being able to explain it to someone else is how you become a leader on the team this is very important” or else has him haul phoebes around on his back or whatever as “strength training” to make himself feel better about just wanting Jamie to be there to hang out. Roy following Jamie back home after matches because he needs to “assess his post-match routine and make sure he’s not overdoing it,” but really it’s just them plopped on Jamie’s couch watching bad reality tv and judging it together. And then *obviously* he might as well stay over, so that he can also observe and give Jamie his helpful advice on a morning wake up and stretch routine. Totally necessary!

And look, part of Jamie understands what’s really happening here and at least sort of knows Roy really does like spending time with him outside of just work and training (hence all his best friend teasing on Uncle’s Day), but Jamie is also a bit of an idiot (affectionate) who in equal measure sort of believes he’s just deluding himself and that all of this really has been an elaborate and effective training scheme from Coach Roy.™️ They perplex and bewitch me. s

also. i could scream at how real it was when beard said other people in the room might be gay and every. single person. immediately clocked jamie. no hesitation. even ted looks at him. which means that every single one of them at least once has looked at jamie and had some variation of the thought “huh jamie’s kinda gay. okay then” and moved on with no further thought. also jamie was flattered but didn’t deny it so imo confirmed bisexual jamie tartt

Everything about Jamie getting Roy his gift is fucking me up.

I mean, the fact that he did it at all? From failing to bring a Secret Santa gift because he didn’t know that he had to, to putting all this time and effort into finding the perfect present for Roy, all because some random girl invited him to a made-up holiday and oh, you have to bring him a gift as well?

The black on black on black wrapping. Not what Jamie would go for personally, but this isn’t for Jamie, is it, this is for Roy, and so he wraps it accordingly.

How he starts to explain the gift before Roy has even finished opening it. He is just so fucking nervous that Roy won’t get it.

And then, finally and fucking heartbreakingly, there’s the way his face starts to fall as Roy just stares at him without saying anything after Jamie explains how he got them to change the ‘e’ for an ‘u’, because Jamie certainly didn’t mean this as an insult; it is a joke but the joke’s not on Roy, it’s between them but what if Roy doesn’t like it? What if he’s actually offended? (Sublime acting there from Phil Dunster, but what else is new.)

Only Roy does like it. Loves it. And Jamie’s smile is relieved is pleased is shy is yeah fucking nailed it.
