i'm gonna say this with no hate to anyone specific but i really fucking hate theories that make extra homophobic characters/people secretly gay. i don't like it. it makes me uncomfortable. i feel the same way when people make jokes about politicians who make their careers out of homophobia being secretly gay. i just don't like it. it makes me feel weird. sometimes homophobic people are just fucking violent homophobes. lets not assume homophobia = secretly gay, please.

pretty soon the good omens fandom will be non existent. we will just end up blocking each other into oblivion and then there will be no one left to see us talking into the void.

Unpopular opinion.
But I really dislike Buck's new hairstyle. The curls on top are nice, but the missing sideburns are a crime; the neck is shorn much too short, the lower middle is too thick, and overall it gives his head a really weird shape and silhouette that looks like the top of the back of his head is flat and the lower middle too thick. I hate it more than I hate the mustache.
Just had to get that off my chest.
(and no offense to any of you who do like it, but gosh, I can't warm up to it at all, and it's been weeks. Nope)

Do people understand that others aren't always all or nothing??? Like... Just because they have one stance on side of a topic, doesn't mean they have a specific stance on a completely different topic. People are allowed to fluctuate in their views from topic to topic. Humans actually do understand nuance when it comes to our thoughts process-- or at least most do it seems.

While I think there are some queer identities that while good faith, hurt the queer community more than they help anybody I don't think it's anyone's job to police how another queer person should talk about their identities and experiences.
If a queer person doesn't identify with a certain label that you think would fit them or uses a label you think doesn't fit them, let it be. A lot of labels that we use to section off group of people in society are optional. You can choose which subgroup you're a part of in the LGBTQIA+ community, no one should choose for you.
It is also okay to be unlabeled or to use labels in a unconventional way that aligns with your diverse experience with sexuality and gender. I think what really matters is having respect for the queer community, those who came before you, and how they originally self-identified.
How someone else is queer shouldn't 100% determine your experience of being queer, you should still be mindful and reflect when self identifying. Out of respect not only for others but yourself as well, if that makes sense.

that article going around abt firefox's new ad program is annoying bc it's phrased as though "mozilla has finally TURNED on its people and is SELLING YOU OUT for cold hard cash!!" when. that's not what's happening. it is specifically being implemented to discourage tracking behavior, and literally all the data they are giving to advertisers is aggregate and anonymized, which is like, the opposite of what that post wants you to worry about, lol

made a chart of the straw hats' skin tones with the colors being screencapped directly from the episodes, to show how much they've lightened. this is more than just an "artstyle change" or "design evolution" or "just the timeskip" this is blatant racism/colorism. it's fucking ridiculous and i don't understand how toei is continuously getting away with it please reblog btw, i think this is something people should see

it is completely understandable to be uncomfortable with the sexual assault in dandadan. it's important to discuss how it's framed, whether it's handled poorly, or if it could be been portrayed better. but the number of people - even fans - stating that it is only fanservice, irrelevant, or could be removed is frankly bizarre to for SO many reasons, starting with the fact that this parallel exists.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the anime made it even more obvious by interpolating cuts from the first scene into the second one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i thought this scene showed that momo gaining her powers by believing in her relationship with her grandmother gives her the strength to fight back against what is basically a horrific, much more aggressive and abstract (maybe even absurd?) representation of her shitty gross ex - who was demanding she 'put out' and pay for the love hotel in very first scene.
Tumblr media
while the escalation from one scene to the next is surprising, it's not something that comes out of nowhere. this first scene is meant to be a set-up to what will happen later. it sets the tone, though significantly more lighthearted at this point. it tells you that sex, sexuality, etc. is something dandadan will touch on - though you don't know what the scope and depth will be until later in the chapter.
i cannot recommend this video enough, as it discusses some interesting interpretations of what the serpoians and turbo granny represent in their respective assault scenes, as well as how right now the treatment of both scenes is unfortunately uneven.
more notes about plot and thematic relevance below the cut. spoilers for anime-onlies (up to chapter 8, will probably be covered in episodes 4/5).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
momo was assaulted, and almost cut up by the serpoians, much like the other victims turbo granny appeared around. this is an intentional parallel. turbo granny goes to momo because that is what she does. again, SUPER unclear how that factors into turbo granny's assault of ken, but if we keep the video's interpretation of cynicism in mind, it could be related to that; maybe turbo granny has a cynicism toward men - similar to momo in chapter/episode 1 - and this is why she chose to attack ken. unfortunately, it's still too early to really understand and explain a lot of her motivations.
again, completely understandable to not like how the sexual assault was handled or portrayed, and it's important to keep discussing it. but this is what dandadan does for many different types of trauma and difficult life experiences. this is a huge part of dandadan's identity. if you don't like it, that is fine, but calling the sexual assault 'just fan service' is blatantly untrue.

Anyway. Bi and Mspec Lesbians aren't a hotly "debated" topic or even new to queer culture, it's just the newest thing that bullies who REALLY want to be homophobic and even racist use to justify harassing gay people they don't like.
It's the thinnest possible veneer of progressive language wrapped around TERF and reactionary rhetoric so that they can feel righteous for forming an angry mob against vulnerable targets. If you're gullible enough to fall for the newest wave of bigotry within the queer community, and turn on your allies because they're "confusing" or "invading your spaces," the SAME way they turned on bi/pan labels, trans people, xenogenders, neopronouns, and aroace people before this, then get lost.
#No patience. Wither and rot.#These motherfuckers dogpiled the legend who leaked the no fly list because it identified as the wrong type of lesbian.#They will attack the people doing DIRECT ACTION over dumbfuck label discourse. Deeply unserious people.#Embarrassing to think that there are rubes out there who keep falling for this#For ALL our sakes I hope this is literally their first rodeos and they really haven't fallen for this bullshit twice.#But unfortunately I'm too old to be that hopeful.#I didn't get to see the big ''public block list'' made for us dirty queers who support or are bi/mspec lesbians but I hope I was on it#If a man is best judged by his enemies then exclusionists who echo terf rhetoric are the ones I WANT to have.#And ''public lesbian block list'' is in quotes because if you REALLY thought that such a thing wasn't a ''GO HARASS THESE PEOPLE'' charter-#--then you have a black mold where your brain used to be and it's rapidly eating into the bathroom tile you call a skull#Unironically you should not have a platform if you are THAT stupid or malicious to think it was anything BUT a harassment charter#I hope they're ashamed.#Context for those unaware: a flesh-eating amoeba created a public blocklist for people who supported bi lesbians#Minors and extremely small creators without big platforms were on that list#People got harassed but the most namely was Lockandkeyhyena who had people raiding his server with racial slurs and death threats.#I hope everyone involved sees who their ''allies'' are when they spread that sentiment.#A bunch of people ACTUALLY 'invading someone's space' to post the n-word and suicidebait.#THAT is who you appeal to. Sit with that.
