okay so. kind of a weird thing. i just finished the dp&w making of, which was reasonably fun but pretty missable, and right as it finished i realized that shawn and ryan ALWAYS used "deadpool" to refer to the character. never his name. i mean maybe once or twice that i forgot but virtually never. they and hugh did say logan and wolverine about 40/60, but honestly that still feels weird to me coming from a fandom context. and, idk. there's a gap there. it feels emblematic of the gap between the people who get to make this kind of movie (cis white men), and the people who don't (us, for the most part). and how what they see as the most important elements of the story and characters are fundamentally out of alignment with what we want. there's a lot of overlap, which is why we're drawn to this stuff in the first place, but it's never going to actually line up. idk it's pretty disheartening but we carry on i suppose.

I have additional criticisms of the middle post, one of which is that their example of a little treat that won't meaningfully impact your finances is a daily $8 coffee, which is absurd on several levels. First of all, in 1950 or whatever you couldn't save for a house by not buying an $8 coffee everyday, because coffee was very much not $8. Secondly, even in the present, $8 a day ends up being $240 a month. If $240 a month is trivial money to you, I don't think you're very well positioned to be giving financial advice that amounts to "just spend whatever money you have it's not worth saving" lmao.
#that's like 10% of my pre-tax monthly income lol that's EXACTLY what you're recommended to put in savings every month if possible#this is not to say you can budget your way out of poverty to be clear#just that you should have a budget anyway especially if you're making a lot of little unnecessary purchases

oh my god okay I’ve been working since 7:30am but MN, SD, and JW are all submitted for internal review!!! NF is ready to submit as soon as he gets home from school and does a final readthrough!!!! DN has decided to waive review lol godspeed to that poor kid but it means less work for me today yippee!!!! and I also had time to give the baby a bath which is his new favorite activity (furiously focused water-kicking time!!!!). I think now I will take a break from student work and take all the residents of this household out for a brisk walk.
#I’m on a roll today so I might try to knock out EP’s five short essays too#maybe if the baby consents to nap once more (he’s been very obliging today)#I also just found out that one of my tutoring clients from another company wants to schedule 2x/wk sessions with me#for the foreseeable future#which is almost all the tutoring I’d need to do during the admissions offseason to make up my budget shortfall#tonight after the baby goes to bed I am going to sit down and calculate exactly how much $ I need to take six more weeks of leave#and then I will draft an email to let work know#thank you everyone for encouraging me to do it#even though I have to work a bit to make the unpaid leave work out#I still think it’s worth it to have the extra flexibility!!!#like I get to work in bursts while baby naps#and then hang out with him when he’s awake#and there’s no commute and no fixed hours
