when i think about it, i can’t imagine most of magolor’s time scheming was all that satisfying. not really.

it kinda depends on where you place him, but with the helper magolor feature in rtdldx i think it’s more interesting to imagine him traveling alongside kirby and the others. and how lonely that must have felt.

y’know, especially with kirby around. someone so earnest and friendly.

anyway, just a concept i can’t let go of

the phrase “you are my deepest most tender wound” has been stuck in my head lately. i think it fits. not perfectly, but enough.

I like the look and the feel of this method a lot.#In case anyone out there was wondering what the original doodle the Cowboy Wizard Jousting comic was - it was this!#I had indended it to stay a sketchbook doodle but I kept thinking about it - and figured 'why not also use it to do an art experiment?'#The funny thing about using existing characters for this is that this isn't even that far off from what they actually are.#The original pitch for the setting of FFS was 'Cowboy Exorcists'. Which sort of just makes them Cowboy Wizards in a way.#Design wise all I really did here was give them sillier hats.#Fitch isn't boy enough for the boy to be more than a carry over from 'cowboy'#But our Nameless Nobody? Yeah. They earned that Coward Badge good and true.#I have a few more doodles from this (AU? I guess?) That I may post if I'm low energy this week.#I missed drawing these little fellas. I don't know the exact time since I wasn't really keeping track #anyways this would've come out quicker if I hadn't put it off for a few days but I really needed to take a break since it got frustrating #the bg and skeleton were already done but I was really stuck on what to do with chuuya and I even scrapped the original pose I had for him #it was too difficult given my current skill set. but I can see how i've improved since my last major piece (aka my own dtiys)#but yeah. also disregard his gloves I literally forgot that and I didn't want to detail his actual hands so. gloves it was. yeah.#for my sake just pretend that he either forgot or just activated corruption suddenly so then he'll rip them off anyways #still drew his hat blowing away amidst the flurry of feathers though #oh also this is 16 chuuya. 22 chuuya's hair PAINS me to draw so I went the gay little ponytail route #design notes include making his coat have fur to reference how he was based off of a bearded vulture #also his wings were very fun to draw. Whenever I set a very high expectation for a project I will guarantee intimidate myself out of it

But if I set the bar in hell I can finish it very quickly and turns out great 90% of the time

...so my laptop finally died

If I may, how do you typically approach choosing colors in your art? It always has just a lovely feel to it, so I was a bit curious; don't feel pressured to answer ofc :]

I’ve been using a lot of gradient maps lately, they work by switching the greys in your piece with a corresponding colour according to its value. Basically, I colour in black and white, grab a gradient map, and then I adjust the colours by hand until I’m happy with it. This isn’t the only kind of colouring I do, but it works great if you’re in a rush or you’re struggling to find a good starting point for your colours. I’ve been operating under a time crunch for these Sketchbook Week drawings and the Plenism promo stuff I made, so for all except one I used gradient maps. I’m actually in a bit of a funk with my colours right now soooo I’ll come back and do a proper colouring tutorial for my style once I’m happier with how my non gradient mapped colours are looking !

#after sketchbook weeks over I wanna sit and do some colour studies to find palettes I’m more happy with #even these gradient map ones I’m not thrilled with #they’re fine! but I could do better #in terms of other tricks I use I’ll often adjust the hues and saturations if the whole piece to give things more unity if I’m struggling #and/or add a new layer on top of everything and fill it with one base colour #and play around with different layer settings and opacities on top #I’ve found a luminosity layer on a low 5-10% setting is quite nice #basicslly I fuck around and find out #and if I’m in a rush I use a gradient map #they’re not neccesarily a quick fix! if you’re like me you’ll still want to do some tweaking after it’s been applied #and you need to pay attention to your values when you’re colouring in black and white #but that’s another good thing about gradient maps - they force you to focus on value over hue which is an important skill to build #so yeah I’ll come back to this and make an actual colouring tutorial once I feel like I have actual good advice to give #cause rn I’m just very meh in my colouring and I don’t think I have anything very helpful to add #need to find some tutorials myself first !#ty for the ask!#ask #art #my art #bpcol-reblogs #textpost #blethering #for this piece the adjustments were minimal in comparison to what I usually do btw #because I was rushinggggg lol #I did more for my Plenism posters n such #but I can’t really show good comparisons because I. didn’t save them like that #I usually smush all my layers together when I’m drawing sooo yeah makes it hard to go back my bad whoops #but I saved as I was going whilst drawing this so I could provide examples yipee!#if I’d been smarter and remembered more I could’ve had more process screenshots butttt oh well lmao

Alright, with some help from @anger-ey (thanks again for the help ^o^), I think I finally have the answer to where this came from.

SO, it looks like this "fact" was originally on Kliff's page on the Metronomik wiki as unsourced trivia. Back then, it seems like the site was prone to people just writing whatever they wanted, so I guess I read it there first and internalized it as a fact.

(Even though when I first posted about it, I acknowledged that it wasn't said on record, so *that's* the part that I forgot.)

So yeah. It turns out I actually did just make this up from nothing, and just forgot that I made it up.

"Just something I was thinking about a few days ago. I don’t think it’s ever been said on record that Kliff’s design is inspired by Dio, but I’m pretty sure that’s true. There are a bunch of other Jojo references in the game, so I don’t think another one is that far-fetched. Not that I know anything about Jojo anyway." (source)

So, early on in this fandom's history, my "job" was essentially collecting trivia for the game. If you look at some of my oldest posts tagged "NSR," that's mostly what you'll find in between the bad fanart. Character trivia gleaned from dev livestreams, details about certain bugs or rare events, etc. As such, I have a good chunk of knowledge about incidental details about the game.

However, there's some trivia in my brain that says, "Kliff was lightly modeled after Dio Brando from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure." but I don't have a source for that, and it's not written in any of the trivia posts I've made before.

I have 0 interest in Jojo, so I don't think it's something I would have observed and concluded for myself. It's also somewhat supported by the fact that there are other Jojo references present in NSR, (like Retdex's sprite pose, and Zuke's pants pattern). I am 90% certain that someone, somewhere, officially said that, but I can't remember who or where.

Can anybody verify that for me, or did I really convince myself that this was true based on literally nothing?

It pleases me when there's fanworks for a video game that include very specific hallmarks of a mod. I had fun writing Wilson Dontstarve in a panfandom RP reflexively giving the exact freshness percentage and somehow managing to pronounce a mouse button symbol a la Status Announcements when sharing that he had some eggs in his inventory, but I'm also thinking of Lethal Company fanart where the characters recognisably have the exact cosmetics from the More Company mod in an otherwise vanilla-canon-compliant scene as if this is a native feature of the game. (I've drawn this myself, even in serious fanart. Although I'm inconsistent about it if I'm just drawing my own avatar.)

#i don't always remember/bother to draw the hardhat if nobody else's character is in the scene even though i'm basically always wearing it #a similar thing applies to when you can tell Exactly What Settings were in play in a fic/RP set in a video game universe even without mods #like how i put into my among us oc's backstory an occasion where two people both got ejected after being caught at the scene of a murder #the crew was able to posthumously find out the first one was innocent and the second one was an impostor because they had Confirm Ejects on #it's just a fun little detail! as long as it's not TOO fourth-wall-breaking

Mini Silverborn Countdown

If you’ve been around for a few years, you’ve seen me vaguely mention a “Silverborn Countdown Challenge” several times. It’s been delayed and changed as many times as the book itself, lol.

If anyone wants sort of a low-stakes, very chill and spaced out version of this ye olde never tackled challenge to complete in the next year before Silverborn, I propose what I’m doing:

Every 3 months leading up to the initial release, I am creating one thing based on each of the books.

January — Nevermoor
