a lot of people will play dragon age 2 and they'll be like... whoa.... anders is truly a grey character who does both good and evil......
when in actuality anders blowing up the chantry was not only good but based, sexy, and inspirational and he has never done wrong a day in his life

okay actually I'm fucking around in TS Underswap because its similar to under tale in regards to how the game reacts to different choices you make and yada yada completionist "I have to see what happens" mindset.
And there's this part in the game where Muffet traps you and Papyrus and Crossbones in her webs and shes all like i'm gonna rip your soul out of your body and then bake your human corpse into a pie fuhuhu~ and so im like Lets kill her in front of the brothers and see what they say. And before I could land the final blow Crossbones jumps in like "woah woah hey dont pull that shit here i understand acting in self defense but there's no need to fight back" like WHAT!!! what do you think self defense means Sans
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WHAT DO YOU MEAN!!! MUFFET WAS GOING TO COOK AND EAT ALL OF US
Tumblr media
SHE EATS PEOPLE!!!

YOU EAT PEOPLE!!!

Do you ever see a piece of media get released that triggers a physical need to pack it up and send it by time travel post to teenage you? Because while the Thing is excellent now, it would have been Groundbreaking to you if it came out 10 years ago. It would have rewritten your DNA. But 10 years ago, the damn Thing didn’t even exist.

👀 and 🤲 (for the emoji ask ☺️) thehe
@lauraolar14 thank you for the emoji ask questions!!!! 💕💕
👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!
I suppose I can count Nonviolent Communication's part 14 as a wip, so very vaguely, another important conversation between Miguel and reader is going to take place (not heart wrenching as part 13's but equally important for... future reasons). Also, something that I've been hinting about since December is coming up at last. There are hints here and there about this and it's linked to reader's universe and her past.
I have a few other wips (some fanfics, others just short pieces) but the one I've been thinking about a lot recently is of one in which reader is childhood best friends with a variant Miguel (not our Spider Society leader Miguel). It's angsty because of unrequited love and there's a lot of high school moments/memories. Reader and Miguel grow apart in many ways but remain best friends throughout the years despite a lot of bs on Miguel's part. And then at some point, *something* happens and *someone* shows up! 👀
🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip?
I'll share a snippet of the last wip I talked about! This is a rough draft written in February at like 4am, so it's not to my liking in regards to the writing quality. I was fighting the urge to cry while writing this tbh and very sleepy 😭😭

Thank you for the ask, friend!!!! ❤️

Every now and then I wonder why violence in videogames is so addictive, why murder is illegal but videogames depicting murder are fine, but while for example [consensual etc] sex is legal, but sex in videogames is a taboo / socially unacceptable. (Note: I'm not saying either should/shouldn't be available, that's not the topic.)
So there's a bunch of obvious reasons why action and violent videogames can be appealing:
short, closed feedback loops (ability to receive and solve problems and not have any lingering consequences)
the joy of learning the skills and reflexes needed to succeed (aiming, weapon selection, jumping, whatever)
the joy of movement (viscerally appealing as an approximation of sports)
visuals and other ear/eye/brain candy (good graphics, music, sound design, sometimes even a story or puzzles that create an overall appealing experience)
power fantasy / abuse (the allure of being in control and solving situations while being the protagonist who's great at everything)
power fantasy / use (the appeal of having even nonviolent tools and resources to solve things that you couldn't afford have in real life)
the inherent acceptance of violence in our society as a sometimes-acceptable way to solve problems (i.e. the state as the monopoly of violence licensing this to army and police forces, creating a culture of limited, but still widely approved violence)
inability to progress in real world (improving material conditions IRL is a lot more work than finishing a videogame)
consistency of rules, limited scope and relative predictability vs real world (a lot easier to predict what's going to happen in a game and know how to fix it, versus the overwhelming challenges of life)
easy availability (have you seen how many decent games are there that _don't_ have any violence? Not even minecraft or stardew valley would check that box.)
a lot of others but anyway this is a large topic
Yesterday it occurred to me to see it from another angle similar to the one of feedback loops - childhood trauma, cortisol levels, sympathetic/parasympathetic nervous system, etc.
Obviously not everyone playing violent videogames is deeply traumatized, and that's another topic that's not mine. I mean a lot of low-key trauma and inability to fight against the world and people being mean to you for seemingly no reason.
I was an angry kid. I'm not happy about that, as it's everything I don't want to be now, and hopefully the way I treat others, and my patience and self-control is in stark contrast to random angry outbursts and high irritability I had then. But even kids who aren't as angry will see the appeal of relieving that stress. Sometimes you'd scream into a pillow. Sometimes you'd go for a run. Sometimes you'd walk on the rail tracks, feeling so so cool for doing something illegal.
And sometimes you'd play violent videogames. Not realizing it then, it became not only a tool to attempt control over something fictional when I couldn't control the violence in my real life, it also became a way to compensate for the abundance of cortisol in my life. What good is fight or flight response when you can neither fight or flee? (And the two other Fs were also not available.)
And so videogames allowed to close the loop. Receive violence in real life, reciprocate violence in the imagined world. Relieve stress. Lower cortisol. It isn't the best solution, but it's one that's widely available.

Man
Man as part of society > Man as part of his specie > Man as part of the universe
Man as an individual > Man as an evolutionary machine > Man as a metaphysical entity
Man as a social construct > Man as a self-defining organism/ecosystem > Man as a creation of itself
The 3 pillars of humanity: sociability, competition and meaning.
The cycle repeats itself. Enjoy the ride.

A Dance of Fire and Ice
by fizzd, Kyle, and giacomopc
Genre: Rhythm
Pitch: A single-button rhythm game.
My expectations: A super simple rhythm game from a team that's made several rhythm games? Seems like a safe bet.
Review:
A Dance of Fire and Ice is an awesome proof of concept and a maddening exercise in frustration.
Tumblr media
There’s a blue circle, a red circle, and a path of even spaces. Blue circles red in a tight orbit at a fixed speed. Hit a button—any button—when blue overlaps the next space, and blue stops on that space, now orbited by red. Repeat. Miss a space, and you’re sent to the beginning.
Tumblr media
A signpost shows that along a horizontal line, one space equals one quarter note, which is slightly odd since that movement also equals one half orbit, but fine. We’re in 4/4 time, and a half rotation is a quarter note. If you can keep all that in your mind, you can see the path as simple musical notation, without any pitch change. Right, right, right, right = 𝅘𝅥 𝅘𝅥 𝅘𝅥 𝅘𝅥 Right, down, right, up = 𝅘𝅥 𝅘𝅥. 𝅘𝅥 𝅘𝅥𝅮
Tumblr media
It’s a brilliant visual representation that doesn’t require any previous musical knowledge. I know some things about music, though, and video games, too. I can tell you with certainty that some of my hits weren’t registering. In a game where a single miss ends the whole song, that’s a problem.
+ A smart, stripped-down, original take on rhythm games. + New concepts are rolled out slowly in small, wordless tutorials levels that are lots of fun. + Satisfying once you get the patterns and nail a perfect run. + Flexible controls. I found the click of the mouse helpful for keeping the beat, but keyboards and controllers are valid too. Go back and forth between multiple buttons if a two-handed drumming style is more your speed.
– I can't complete the first song. I got past 90% three times, only to have the game miss inputs. – Needs more audio/visual feedback. I ran the calibration tool several times, and never got it to feel right. Your actions don't make any sound, so it's hard to correct when you're slightly off. I swear some of the drums come in slightly early or slightly late. – Aesthetically bland. – Ironically, for perfectionists only.

im a big fan of palworld and it annoys me that like. half of the posts on the tumblr tag are people discoursing over if palworld is ethical to play! what are you talking abt!
the main issue ppl are discussing (at least since most ppl don't really care about the "it uses ai and steals!!", esp since palworld contains no ai or stolen art...) over is the fact that the game allows you to catch NPCs. the game disincentivizes this however, and it's functionally useless and even detrimental. If you do capture a friendly NPC it's a criminal offense that will get you killed *instantly.* pals are much much more powerful than humans in this gameworld.
talking abt if it's an okay joke to make is one thing (people have been making jokes like that about pokemon for Years) but saying the game encourages it? no. mechanically speaking, it's difficult, expensive, and provides no benefit to the player.

Idea for a small problem-solving video game: Can't Sleep Like This
The idea is that you're trying to go to sleep, but there's things in your environment making noise, and you have to come up with ways to make each problem Stop Making Noises before your 6 am alarm. Fix the dripping faucet. Drop the barking dog a chew toy. Either persuade, negotiate, or terrorise your noisy neighbours to keep more quiet.
The only goal is to eliminate every noise, and the only way to lose is failing to do that before the time is up. Besides getting a higher score the faster you can do it (and therefore getting more sleep), you get bonus points for finding solutions that are nonviolent and/or don't get you a criminal record.
