Lewis Carroll’s “Walrus & the Carpenter”

~~~~~~~~~~MARLA ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Marla with the jungle in alliance. One couldn't witness with denial. The magic she did With her torch lit Called out a herd of invisible giants. Only when the earth would tremble. Only when the trees would rumble. A sound of pixified fairies. It tasted like maroon berries When the giant herd started to mumble. "crept up ceilings higher than your highest peak. you'll see an arrow fly up down from the ground up to your cheek." "how splendid is this! Seems to me like art does this world seem the same to you? broken beliefs and a wide open heart is that not what it takes to bloom?" She held out her hands And slowly started to pant. The air was visible with sparks. Every movement they marked With glowing burn of commands. " do not fret, do not fear, do not seek what you misunderstand. The little ones are more nearer but some like you comprehend." Then the whole world seemed to crumble. The winds seemed to fumble. All the stones, sticks and debris Surrounded Marla like bumblebees. Next came utter silence left behind by Marla in that Jungle. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~-vaibhavi #nonsensepoetry #marla #art #artist #artistonig #artistoninstagram #artists #artglory #artisglory #poetryisart #poeticartist #poetsonig #poetsoninstagram #gloryofpoems #poeticglory #story #magicalstory #magicinpeom #magicinpoetry #magicalgirl #magicallady #magicalplace #poetrywitch #witchpoetry #poetrylove #poetrylover #spiritualpoetry #divinebeings https://www.instagram.com/p/B0jCak6n3kb/?igshid=1kirr6anbv8zp
Today I'm sharing more fantastical nonsense poetry in the vein of yesterday's Edward Lear, but this time something a bit more modern. Calef Brown's "Polkabats and Octopus Slacks" (1998) is a brilliantly colourful, over-the-top collection that covers everything from high- wire traffic jams to funny smells. His illustrations are as expressive as the fabulous vocabulary that he uses. So much fun! What are your favourite kids' poetry books? ⏺ ⏺ ⏺ #noodlenutsclassickidlit #noodlenutskidsbooks #polkabatsandoctopusslacks #calefbrown #poetrycollection #poetryforchildren #poetry #poems #nonsensepoetry #silliness #nonsense #wordplay #beautifulchildrensbooks #childrensillustrators #childrenspoetrybooks #childrensbookillustration #kidsbookstagram #picturebook https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz1JgAdnfEk/?igshid=sk1v1de1xv99
'She sate upon her Dobie, To watch the Evening Star, And all the Punkahs as they passed, Cried, 'My! How fair you are!' Around her bower, with quivering leaves, The tall Kamsamahs grew, And Kitmutgars in wild festoons Hung down from Tchokis blue. From The Cummerbund ' In my childhood, his poems went above my head. Now years later they make a bit too much sense with all the literary theories and concepts that kept buzzing inside my head. Of course it's the era that shapes the man, the exotic prevails so does the sense of cultural superiority, because if we to recall he belonged to the age of patrons. The word genius of Lear is revealed with phrase like Runcible Spoon, Tilly-loo, or characters like Uncle Arly who sat on heap of Barley, yes his rhyming sense was too good as well. I love these tiny Penguin Black books, they are perfect size to fit inside the sling bag and good companion for bus rides. And this little gem is complimented with illustrations by L. Leslie Brooke. #nonsense by #edwardlear #book #reading #bookstagram #bookreview #instabook #reader #bibliophile #literaturelover #britishliterature #booklover #englishliterature #bookworm #nonsensepoetry #instabooks #literature #booknerd #books #bookgeek #bookworm #bookover #bookphotography #bookreview #bookaholic #englishpoetry #booklovers #booklove #bookaddict #bookish #poetry (at Golfgreen Central Park)
Ballad for a low-cost Aubergine
On my way home, on a Monday night,
What to cook? My brain wandered, left to right.
.
I grabbed my purse, to see what it contained,
A meagre 75 cents! Oh the shame!
.
Almost hopeless I crept, into the shop,
The aubergine section, my only stop.
.
'Lo and behold! There I did see,
An aubergine that was meant for me!
.
Timidly, I asked the owner of the store,
"¿Cuanto es este? ¿Por favor?”
.
Oh the apprehension! The fear that did rack me!
And do you know, it was seventy-five cents exactly!
.
"Oh how grand!" I exclaimed "it must be fate!"
For this fat little aubergine, to end up on my plate.
Does Love Really Exist?
Oh, it's so hard to find love,
The thoughts of it now I shove,
My Prince Charming is too lazy,
Now the dreams I had are getting hazy,
How stupid it was of me,
"Reality", which I didn't see,
The way I loved the idea of love was insane,
Always reading the novels of Jane,
Falling in love with every guy in the book,
Always for "Love" I used to look,
Guys like Romeo don't exist anymore,
Oh, my heart is getting so sore,
Love like that is impossible to be found,
It's buried somewhere deep within the ground,
Does love really exist?
Or has it turned out to be like mist?
Today's poetry choice is a bit different, as it's not technically a children's book! However, my own dad started reading to me from "A Book of Bosh: Lyrics and Prose of Edward Lear (chosen by Brian Alderson)" (1975) when I was very young, and it has been a treasured part of my collection for many years. I love the idea of introducing kids to wordplay and language that are simultaneously challenging and accessible via humour. Give this one a try with your kids! ⏺ ⏺ ⏺ #abookofbosh #edwardlear #lyricsandprose #brianalderson #puffinbooks #vintagepuffinbooks #poetry #poetrycollection #poetryforchildren #nonsense #nonsensepoetry #silly #humorouspoetry #wordplay #limericks #readkidspoetry #sillyreadalouds #vintageillustration #mylibrary #personallibrary https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzyrj53nTOf/?igshid=1k1qnmdr6owsw
Craziness in between sentences once written
It's hilarious how everything reminds me of you
It's amusing how many times this sentence has been used
It's craziness, my love to you
and these words I never knew I'd use
Funny how a poem in it's own fullness
can be fulfilled with nonsense and dullness
This is my life
it's why I write
Maybe someday someone will understand my feelings
my thoughts
my expressions
My head's full of obsessions
This is insane
I want to run away
But how long will you last,
when you never even came?
