I’ve seen a lot of stuff this week that was vaguely triggering regarding religious trauma, etc. I’m not entirely sure how to classify my response to it. There’s been a lot of sudden nausea and tears and general sadness over the things I was taught growing up. 

But the conclusion I keep coming to, over and over again, is that it’s so devastatingly heartbreaking that growing up religious means growing up hearing how you are-- from birth-- damaged and evil and broken and in need of saving. That you and your very existence are fundamentally flawed and in need of forgiveness and redemption and salvation from the source that decided all of this in the first place.

The foundation of a lot of my anxiety and distress in life comes from the feeling that everything about me is somehow a little bit wrong, a little to the left, off kilter somehow, and that I am-- at all times, knowingly or unknowingly-- wasting everyone’s time and unworthy. 

I am on a constant quest to earn love and loyalty, and it’s gut wrenching to know that one of the earliest creeds imbued into me was that I am unworthy and fundamentally evil, but if I make the right decisions and say the right things, I may earn forgiveness and love... but I’ll never deserve it. 

And then it was made my job to make others feel this way, too?

The weirdly competent Doctor

So! The Watchtower's Medical Bay is a hub of constant Activity. With the number of Heroes who work under the Justice League, there are always injuries, health check-Ups, and illnesses that need healing.

But with the amount of Variant Biologies that those Heroes have, it's always a guessing game as to how to help them best. Some Metahumans react positively to penicillin, but others react like it's their Kryptonite. Some Aliens have anatomy similar to Humans, others are so different you can't tell the Stomach from the Bladder.

So when they hired a New Doctor for the Medical Bay, they had to run him through an entire Course on Variant Biologies and how best to treat specific Heroes. It was long and difficult to remember fully, but it was necessary for him to know.

But then the new Doctor started correcting Them.

"Actually, Martian's react better to the Syrup of Eucalyptus Plants better than Penicillin, since Eucalyptus is very similar to a medicinal plant from Mars which they used in many of their antibiotics."

"I don't think just pumping double doses of sedative is the best way to calm down a Speedster, that could have adverse effects on their body. Perhaps try Psychic Intervention? Their minds move a Mile a Second, but if you can calm them down their bodies will follow suit."

"Of course you use Micro-Doses of Kryptonite to operate on Superman! What else would you do?! I don't know, maybe ask JLD to enchant your Equipment to make use of Kryptonian suseptiblity to Magic? The Kryptonite is just gonna give him Cancer!"

Of course the Doctors didn't take kindly to being rudely corrected by a newbie, and Fired him on his first day.

Then a few days later their usual Treatments don't work, and they decide to give those strategies the Quack Doctor gave them out of desperation.

And Lo and Behold, they work! Martian Manhunter is fully healed and feels much better than the previous times he has needed surgery. Apparently they used a different Antibiotic that worked better with his Biology. Which was incredible, how had they figured it out?

Another Doctor you say? One who was experienced on Martian Biology and Medicinal History? He would very much like to meet with the man!

to continue my tradition of mdzs height posting, another character besides mo xuanyu who is routinely and unjustly described as tiny: Wen Qing.

according to the officially released heights, she and jin guangyao are roughly the same size. about five and a half feet tall.

which is on the small side for a man even in china, though not in medieval china, and is ofc loads smaller than the ridiculous giants making up most of the cultivator elite, but is not actually a small person.

that's statistically above average for a woman even in the modern US; in modern china it is often hard for women that height to find off-the-rack clothes. in a historical chinese setting she is mildly gargantuan. five foot six is a positively unmaidenly height.

wei wuxian (as i've previously discussed) is slightly over six feet tall at his original full growth, which is stupid tall even when you're an aristocrat who didn't starve as a child. wen qing is, in turn, too tall for wei wuxian to hook his chin over her head, even if he stands on his toes, unless she ducks.

he's got maybe more than half a head on her. she could headbutt him in the nose from a standing start, as could most adult men because he's a freak.

wen qing would walk among a group of normal-in-context women like a turkey among hens. she is not tiny.

i know cql kind of made her look that way, but in fairness their version of lan wangji is a stick of no great height also. and even on cql she's not particularly small, just exceedingly pale and slim with big eyes. i truly do not know why it's so popular to conceptualize her as teeny-tiny, except maybe for the contrast value. it's not even hornyposting.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm too harsh with making Hunter a little bit dumb and oblivious.

And then I rewatched episode one, and he asks, "Don't you have a family somewhere? Parents?"

And Omega says "Parents?" as if that's the stupidest thing she's ever heard and he's the dumbest motherfucker she's ever met.

And I can rest assured my headcanon of himbo Hunter is correct.
