Trans Horror Podcasts
My post about trans horror books last year was much more popular than I expected, and since I've recently fallen in love with fiction podcasts and audio dramas, I thought I'd make a post about trans horror podcasts as well.
If you like trans horror, please give these a try - especially if you enjoy listening to audiobooks!
Hello From The Hallowoods:
Come walk between the black pines! In this award-winning queer fiction podcast, an eldritch narrator follows the increasingly connected residents of the forest at the end of the world. It's a bittersweet story that explores queer identity, horror genre tropes, and finding hope in humanity's last moments.
Hello From The Hallowoods is my absolute favorite podcast! If you only listen to one podcast from this list, please make it this one - it's so beautifully written and super queer! Also: season 4 starts today!
Trans main characters include:
our nonbinary eye-affiliated podcast host
a nonbinary "Frankenstein's creature"
a transmasc ghost
a genderfluid storm witch
a trans woman who can visit other people's dreams
multiple characters using neopronouns
Camp Here & There:
Good morning, campers! Camp Here & There is a weekly horror comedy podcast tuned in to the loudspeakers of a small midwestern sleepaway camp plagued by supernatural terrors and natural disasters. Sydney Sargent, resident camp nurse, cheerfully reports on all the terror we must face with a big smile. Let’s hope there’s nothing weird about that!
Sydney is a trans man.
Dos: After You:
Things have changed. Deck has fallen in love with someone who isn't human, and leaves a hungry house behind to see him again. Will he be waiting for you? The world has changed… but what about him? Dos: After You is a queer urban fantasy/horror audiodrama available in both English & Spanish
Deck is a trans man.
Jar of Rebuke:
Follow Dr. Jared Hel's journey as he works to re-discover his forgotten past and finds his place within the small Indiana farm town of Wichton and the cryptozoological organization he works for called 'The Enclosure'. These audio journals, and other recordings, dive deep into Midwestern US cryptids and folklore while also telling a mystery about identity, queerness, neurodivergence, and community.
Jared is nonbinary.
Spirit Box Radio:
Spirit Box Radio is an award winning, horror audio drama podcast about a radio show for enthusiasts of all things arcane. Follow Sam Enfield a former postboy with no experience in the arcane arts, who finds themselves forced to take over running the show, following the disappearance of the previous host. Sam soon discovers there are more than ghosts haunting the show, and finds himself amidst a mystery which threatens everything he knows about the world beyond his tiny basement broadcast studio, and maybe even himself.
Sam is a trans man.
The Silt Verses:
Carpenter and Faulkner, two worshippers of an outlawed god, travel up the length of their deity’s great black river, searching for holy revelations amongst the reeds and the wetlands. As their pilgrimage lengthens and the river’s mysteries deepen, the two acolytes find themselves under threat from a police manhunt, but also come into conflict with the weirder gods that have flourished in these forgotten rural territories. This is a world where divine intervention takes place through prayer-markings scratched into stumping-posts, and offerings are left squirming to die in the flats of the delta. This is a world of ritual, and hidden language, and sacrifice. This is folk horror, and fantasy, and a dark road trip into the depths of unusual faith.
Faulkner is a trans man and Paige is a trans woman.
The Magnus Protocol:
The Magnus Archives 2: The Magnus Protocol is the prequel/sequel/”sidequel” to the internationally renowned Magnus Archives podcast. The Magnus Institute was an organisation dedicated to academic research into the esoteric and the paranormal, based out of Manchester, England. It burned to the ground in 1999. There were no survivors. Now, almost 25 years later, Alice and Sam, a pair of low-level civil service workers at the underfunded Office of Incident Assessment and Response, have stumbled across its legacy. A legacy that will put them in grave danger. If this intrigues you then it is our pleasure to welcome you to the Office of Incident, Assessment and Response. Make sure you pick up your badge at desk and report to your line manager before sitting down. Oh and stay away from I.T., seriously.
Alice is a trans woman.

Since my previous podcast recommendation list was pretty popular, I've decided to make another, with another bunch of excellent podcasts:
13 Minutes or Less - Short podcast with very short episodes, about a pizza chef who doesn't like dealing to people but has to do some deliveries due to short staffing. Very much not her thing, but she does her best. As it turns out, her clients are quite a bit stranger and spookier than expected...
Additional Postage Required - Sci-Fi adventure about a nonbinary courier who gains the ability (or curse...) to get visions about the contents, past, and sender of packages they touch. They get roped into a rebellion. There's hoverboard racing. It's awesome.
Among the Stars and Bones - A team of xenoarcheologists search a distant world for traces of a long-vanished aliens. It's been a while since I watched this one, so I don't remember it very well, but I know that I enjoyed it. Very good sci-fi horror.
Dark Ages - Fantasy workplace comedy about a supernatural museum. Quite a lot of fun.
Dragon Shanty - Fantasy story about two bards traveling the high seas. There's dragons aplenty. Very queer. Excellent songs.
Falling Forward - Hacker story loosely based on the myth of Icarus and the Labyrinth, about getting back at a terrible corporation. Kinda experimental, this one has the shortest episodes I've ever seen.
Hotel Daydream - Podcast about the goings-on at a supernatural hotel. Very inventive, with really interesting characters.
Jar of Rebuke - Mystery about a researcher at an ominous cryptozoological organization out in the rural US. He's got no memories of his past and keeps dying and coming back. A story about cryptids, identity, queerness, neurodivergence, and community.
Light Hearts - Slice of Life podcast about turning an old, haunted building into a cafe and queer community center. The ghosts lead to some very fun shenanigans.
Lost Terminal - Mentioned in the other list but not expanded on. This is a hopepunk story set on an Earth devestated by climate change. Told from the POV of an adorable AI who watches this Earth from a space station, observing how humanity re-builds itself and finds a brighter future.
Mayfair Watchers Society - You know Trevor Henderson? The guy who drew Sirenhead, Long Horse, and other such creepypasta creatures in his found footage style? Yeah, this is a horror anthology based on his works, directed by him. Set in the rural town of Mayfair, where strange creatures are a lot more common than elsewhere... Each episode has a slightly different framing device, with some being found footage audio, others meeting recordings, phone calls, etc.
Monstrous Agonies - An advice podcast for the british creature community. Many of the advice letters are sent in by listeners - there's two by myself, one from an ant that can hear and send radio and one from a fey who is looking for curse advice. Some letters are metaphors for queerness, clashing cultures, ableism, and minority communities, others just some urban fantasy fun. Has a little bit of plot, but most episodes have an anthology style. Fast approaching the finale!
Mx Bad Luck - Slice of Life about someone who is cursed with bad luck. Sometimes sad, sometimes funny. Can recommend.
Neighbourly - Neighbourly follows the residents of Little Street, house by house. What they do, how they interact with each other, and what skeletons are hiding in their closet. Starts out as a spooky urban fantasy thing that's almost an anthology, but weaves itself into quite a mysterious plot over time...
SINKHOLE - Short-form audio podcast presented as a collection of audio posts from a member of a community of data restoration hobbyists in a sometimes-unfamiliar future. Mystery about disability, internet communities, and how things change with time.
Second Star to the Left - Scout-explorer Gwen Hartley has five years to explore and prepare her planet for settlement. With no aid but her robots and the anxious voice of her long-distance scout-minder Bell Summers in her ear, she's hoping she's ready for anything.
Someone Dies In This Elevator - Anthology where every episode, someone dies in an elevator. You wouldn't believe how creative they get with that simple concept!
Tales from the Low City - By the maker of Mistholme Museum, this podcast explores the everyday lifes of the last people on an alien world, after the surface had become uninhabitable and everyone had fled down into the last city, the subterranean Low City. This one made me cry a lot!
Tartarus - In a secret facility deep beneath Antarctica, an anxious astrobiologist, a terse station manager, and an AI keep humanity safe from the monsters they imprison.
The Attic Monologues - Queer urban fantasy story about a university student who decides to record themself practicing monologues using a collection they found in their attic. Don't forget to listen to the post-credit scenes!
The Bridge - Surreal alternate universe horror story about the keepers of a bridge over the Atlantic. Gets pretty spooky.
The Green Horizon - Sci-Fi comedy about a na'er-do-well Irish space captain and his rag-tag crew traversing a war-torn galaxy in search of fame and fortune. Very fun podcast.
The Lavender Tavern - Anthology podcast with original gay fairytales. Most are quite memorable!
The Vesta Clinic - Sci-Fi story about a clinic that helps various interesting alien lifeforms with their medical issues. Excellent worldbuilding and characters!
Tides - The story of Dr. Winifred Eurus, a xenobiologist trapped on an unfamiliar planet with hostile tidal forces and a fascinating ecosystem. She must use her wits, sarcasm, and intellectual curiosity to survive long enough to be rescued. But there might be more to life on this planet than she expected...
Hope this list is as helpful as the last!
@boombox-fuckboy @marvelousmawn @sapphireclaw @ashes-in-a-jar @frogmomentsfrombeyondtime @time-is-restored @emmy-noethers-rings
You folk seemed the most interested in the other list, so I'm being bold and @ing you all.

I’m thinking of writing a fic where Sirius gets amnesia (unknown how as of yet) and such. Modern muggle au. I want it to be a pretty chill, happy story with probably not much plot just vibes.
Wolfstar as the main coupling.
These are my character descriptions for our marauders era peeps. Any ideas on any changes or additions to them?
See below the break ⬇️
Also, Sirius isn’t listed bc he doesn’t know who he is bc of the amnesia.
Remus: gay, five years old was attacked by Greyback and cut up, gets tremors on chronic pain now, uses a cane to walk, nerd (will read anything but mostly loves textbooks/educational books), lowkey autistic (you don’t know til you know), always spouting weird facts when he’s uncomfortable, obvi super pining for sirius
James: pansexual, dating Regulus, plays basketball, does one on one with Marlene and they gossip/vent about their day, works out all the time, super smart but a dumbass, actual sunshine with abandonment issues
Regulus: trans (formerly Lyra), bisexual, dating James, nerd (big into learning like remus, he and remus hang out to learn random shit together) plays badminton singles, autistic af, very quiet until he gets comfy then he never shuts up, likes legos (touch and you’ll die)
Peter: aroace, everyone’s bestie, chill and just living his best life, closest with Mary (both just chill but always judging everyone together)
Barty: gay af, dating Evan obvi, graffiti vandal/lowkey arsonist, besties with Pandora, intentionally does stereotypical ‘quiet kid’ stuff just to fuck with his peers, everyone’s afraid of him just how he likes,
Evan: asexual but will ruin Barty sexually (doesn’t get any sexual gratification but enjoys watching Barty squirm and have the best time), collects animal parts in jars and has a ‘bone room’, is that creepy kid, has definitely been to the psych ward before
Lily: lesbian, poly-ish, dating Mary and Pandora, huge chemistry nerd, in the debate club, very popular/friends with nearly everyone
Mary: bisexual, poly-ish, dating Lily and Pandora, very cottagecore, quiet vibes, besties with Peter, vegan/all about saving the planet (but not in a awful way), forgetful and always has a million alarms and reminders on her phone
Marlene: nonbinary they/them, so lesbian they never had to come out, obsessed with gf Dorcas, plays basketball, them and James often do one on one and vent, loves movies and will watch literally anything
Dorcas: lesbian, dating Marlene, most said words are probably “wtf Marlene”, party girl, cheerleader, legit hates men except Reggie but only because they were close before he transitioned and she’d miss him
Pandora: unknown sexuality (always just shrugs when asked), very manic pixie girl vibes, heavy on the manic, sometimes commits arson with bestie Barty, Evan’s unused dead things’ parts are made into fertilizer for her garden (which is impressive btw, mostly flowers but a hidden section of poisonous plants), always has something creepy or downright unsettling to say
Also…
-James is Indian
-Remus is technically white but he does not look it (and it always surprises people), and he’s conveniently unattractive bc I love ugly remus
-Pandora and Evan are black (with naturally white blond hair ofc) and Pandora has vitiligo
-Sirius and Regulus moved from France as children
-Mary is black
-Dorcas is black
It takes place in Canada bc I’m Canadian and I know fuck all about European anything and am too lazy to do research.

introduction
hello! i'm valory! this is my art & oc blog!
• any/all pronouns, primarily they/them
• nonbinary therifluid genderfluid system
• adult
quick table of contents for what's below:
• before you interact (with me)
• do not interact (if)
• general faq (and some)
• other socials (of mine)
• tags (that i use here)
do note any of this is due to be changed as needed, i'm kind of new to this!
before you interact
• I DRAW AND ENJOY NSFW! there likely won't be a lot on this page, but still, minors should not follow me! i'll be tagging as appropriate, so it won't be too big of an issue, and this blog is not NSFW centric.
• as stated on my main, i block liberally and as i please. please don't take it personally!
• MY CHARACTERS DO INVOLVE HEAVY TOPICS! i'm not getting into the nitty gritty of why and how and i don't need to. that said, i apologize greatly if they unnerve you, but i will post what i want and about what i want! i will tag them as "cw: topic" with no censorship, so be sure you have them in your blocked tags
do not interact:
• general dni criteria
• radfems, terfs, obviously the shebang
• minority shaming in general
• those of you who are weird about poc and transgender character designs i'm not having it
general faq
Q: what is X? who is Y? what pronouns should i use?
A: i have a lot of worlds i build upon that i'll tag appropriately. you can see the tags below. as for characters, every character will also be tagged as appropriate. pronouns for characters will be included in the posts! my toyhouse page has most if not all of my characters, which will be linked below.
Q: who owns X? where can i find them?
A: if a character is here that i don't own, i'll always directly tag the creator! if they are not okay with this, i will not do that and will instead either mention them offhandedly or clarify i do not own the character.
Q: do you take requests? am i allowed to draw X?
A: teeeechnically? i'm pretty bad at following through but if you want to see your character and my character hold hands or kiss i'm not against the idea, either drawn by me or you! additionally, you don't have to ask to draw my characters, please tag me when you do i would love to see!
Q: am i allowed to draw X character humanized?
A: no. not without direct permission from me. most of my furry/non-human characters are non-white and i don't want to see them drawn improperly. in some cases, i don't want to see them drawn as humans at all.
Q: are you okay with NSFW? am i allowed to draw X with my character?
A: yes, however; please ask first! even if it's on anon. i love NSFW especially of my characters but it can be jarring to see it out of nowhere with no warning, especially from strangers. you should especially get my permission if you want to do it with another character, including shipping!
Q: can i make an OC for X?
A: i do not mind! however you should definitely let me know if you plan on it. i'll even help you if you want :)
...feel free to ask anything you need to and i'll add it here if it's relevant enough!
other socials
i also have an alt tumblr for my specific world, black dragon! it's a project i've been working on for a couple years now, that i decided i might as well have a blog for it! as well as that, my toyhouse is below with all of my characters!
@druidicmage is my main blog
@blackdragonsideblog for art and oc rambling of specific worldbuilding
toyhouse page where all of my characters are listed
tags
• #druidrambles - tag for all the rambles and text posts and stuff. may be used in tandem with #druidarts
• #druidarts - tag for actual art of mine. may be used in randem with #druidrambles
• #druidfanarts - tag for art that isn't mine but is of my characters
• #druidreblogs - tag for any reblogs i do on this account
• #redshift - techy world based on space travel i've been poking at for a bit, heavily inspired by minecraft but not set in a minecraft-esque world
• #blackdragon - minecraft based world i've worked on for a couple years, but i may not use this tag too much since i have my sideblog
• #starbound - multiverse / worldhopping group of ocs & worlds (tangently related to watchtower, pacific syndicate, and a few others)
• #watchtower - something new me and my partner have been cooking up because we wanted a world that was kind of normal but also not. also funnier to believe it's where friday night funkin' takes place in
• #pacificsyndicate - a fandom mash-up me and my partners thought up after looking at similarities in some of our favorite indie/rpgs
• #azurebluet - an old fantasy/mc thing based on the modpack rlcraft that i haven't poked at in a bit
• #merakismp - a mcrp i've been working at for a couple months
... + any fandom tags i may have ocs for (such as splatoon, mario, dungeons & dragons, kirby, etc.), some of which are tagged on this post

Hi! Top 5 NPCs for ffxiv? :>
Joint 5: the bunny girlfriends - Debroye from the bread quest in EW and Lilja from Bozja in Shb :) Debroye is fighting the good fight for flavour and that hardly needs expanding on after the build up Archon Loaf had in the MSQ as worldbuilding for Sharlayan. Lilja is just a badass bimbo nerd who is good enough to work at the Ironworks but cool enough for shiny nail polish and sunglasses in a warzone. They're small characters who you only meet doing side content but they have strong personalities and they get to rep viera girls who are just kinda nerdy and weird. I am disproportionately affectionate to both of them.
4: Gerolt... I think I've just spent too much time doing relic weapons... He's just awful in a really funny way and I wish him all the best and do all I can to ensure he has a better lot in life, and then one expansion later he is once again in deep drinking debt but saying the realest shit while creating incredible artworks. Also he's sort of 1/3rd the parent of the aforementioned child Frog has so I guess I need to at least get child support in the form of the first free weapon of each quest. The AU version of him and Mowen in the relic crafting tools thing actually really moved me and I'm not ashamed to admit it :')
Anyway in terms of "this guy!!" he's so up there and I'm always thrilled to see what Scenario he's in now. Over the long course of the game he's made an impression...
3: Ameliance. I'm certain she's a mob boss controlling everything from the shadows.
But seriously, no. The twins really are favourites but in terms of Top NPCs I'd been wondering about her the whole time since they do make mentions of their family and writing to mother etc and expectations were high, and getting to know her was so utterly wild because the plot demands on her from all directions of her family - her husband, her father in law, her children, the servants she hires who include the hired goons Alisaie brought to the Coils of Bahamut... Like. She is a character who had to be retroactively constructed from everything that has been said in a way that Fourchenault didn't need to be because his template is clear: He's the Son of Louisoix and burdened with cursed knowledge and the weight of history from immediate family and long lineage of being related to founding fathers of his city; he's EASY to write. Now imagine up the woman who MARRIED him, and has stayed married to him. And is going to stay married to him since the twins dealing with divorce doesn't seem like a probable plotline given the emotional directions of the broader story. Okay, now let's imagine a real woman with actual desires and personality who can fit into this puzzle piece.
Fucking Ameliance.
How on earth they convinced me she's real is a feat of writing I am in awe of.
2: Urianger is so important, like. Leave me alone, Il Mheg got me good because ffxiv seems to get everyone eventually, and now I'm nonbinary and he's my nonbinary icon :') SIGH. A Process Has Occurred. I could say more but honestly, I think that sums up that he is important to me.
1: Erenville............. Listen, I own multiple David Attenborough merch people get me because they know it's an easy gift. I had been a kid who sat and poked rockpools and puddles and I put snails in a jar and and of course picked up frogs in the garden. You introduce a character whose job is Animals and especially claims to be an expert in frogs??? He would have been at least with the bunny girlfriends on this list if this was his only contribution to the story. (And I would have enjoyed my feud in peace.)
Instead he's a fascinating guy who stood up for his workers, has leves where he's commissioning presents for gleaners, happily goes against authority to be helpful from the jump.... And NOW we get more content where we get to see him being a grumpy snarky bastard who is the only rational person in Sharlayan AND apparently has been neglecting being the only rational person in Tural too so off we go to see that in action???
I'm marrying him I'm marrying him I'm marrying him...

Headcanons for Iggy?
Yes!
A HC list but it’s just Iggy
I think he needs more attention. He’s adorable :3
- Diligent, polite, and kind of shy but can talk a lot if he’s comfortable around certain people. Tends to be passive-aggressive whenever he’s upset
- I’m in for the hcs that he’s asexual and nonbinary (he/they). He found out he was asexual when he was in the seventh grade and found out he was nonbinary in the eighth grade
- He’s 15 years old, a high school freshman (ik some people see him as being younger (like middle or elementary school even) but he’s still a minor)
- He’s passive aggressive in the way that he expresses his anger silently. He’ll refuse to talk to anyone but he’ll do things like slam doors or throw things where they need to be or hit things. When he’s like this it’s best to leave him alone until he calms down (Or get Professor Fitz to talk to him)
- Also tends to cry easily if he’s upset, but he also keeps it silent to the point where it hurts his throat
- Based from Aronora’s Fitz family AU: Petrona is his mother. Neither of them are as close as they wish to be due to Petrona’s work and any time they do spend time together is sparse. Usually just movie nights and that’s about it (if you’re wondering about the father read this)
- Looks younger than he actually is which sometimes annoys him. People have assumed he was an elementary schooler
- He likes bunnies and would like one as a pet some day, but he has to wait to move out if he wants a pet since Petrona doesn’t really like pets (not that she hates animals she just doesn’t wanna live with one)
- Has an artistic side to him. He can make his own costume pieces like his glasses for his Comet Con costume and the alien mask for his Halloween costume. He’s even made prop pieces like his own model space ray inspired from Meteor Blaster X
- His mini lab which Fitz built for him has things like a model of the solar system, a clear dome roof, a telescope, and a tv to entertain himself with. His favorite thing is a giant-ass book about the solar system and space which sits on a book stand for him to read through whenever he feels like it
- More of a comic person than a book person. He just likes pictures
- I’m not saying that he’s a STEM kid but he is totally a STEM kid (Science, technology, engineering, and math)
- He believes that aliens exists. It does sound strange but knowing that space is infinite why wouldn’t there be other life out there? It makes sense to him
- He has fidget toys like pop-its and wooden puzzles because he gets bored kind of easily. He even has a Rubik’s cube which he can’t solve without a YouTube tutorial (can’t be good at everything now)
- Sleep with a stuffed astronaut penguin named Marshall every night
- He has a few close friends in school he likes to geek out about fandoms with. He was one of the introverts who were adopted by the extroverted kids but he likes them a lot
- Is online friends with Treble. They met online when Iggy was 12 and Treble was 14. The arranged a time and place to meet each other during Cluckeria’s Comet Con. Fitz and Petrona were wary about Iggy meeting Treble because of stranger danger and stuff like that but they ended up liking Treble since they were pretty much harmless (they didn’t trust Treble to drive Iggy around though)
- His favorite school subject is science of course, though his least favorite is gym class. He’s not very good at sports. Once was playing volleyball for class and he was so terrible at it he cried (based on a true story)
- He has a swear jar, though it’s not exactly for him, it’s for Petrona and Fitz. Iggy doesn’t swear but if Petrona or Fitz do they have to give him a quarter
- During Mocharia he sometimes came along with Petrona or came by himself to visit her. Petrona never talked about herself to almost anyone on set so some didn’t even know she had a son. There were very few people who were told Iggy was her son, a few people picked it up on their own, but some didn’t pay attention enough to notice at all

Is your Gender Neutral reader insert really written gender neutral?
Some observations from my perspective as an agender reader of K-pop fanfic.
No trait, behavior, or body part is limited to one gender only, but without giving a heads up in the fic notes, many things can be jarring when the person reading your work is expecting it to be generalized for any gender. While avoiding gendered pronouns is a good start, that is not all it takes to make a story truly gender neutral.
While suitable for every reader, gender neutral writing is of particular appeal to people who have a harder time finding representation in reader insert fanfic due to their gender. This includes people who are nonbinary, trans, agender, men, and also gender nonconforming people who find common fic characterizations for their gender do not represent them.
A partial list of things to check before posting your Gender Neutral fic:
Do a word search for "girl" used for the reader. Really. That's the number one tip. I have seen things marked "gender neutral reader" who then have the character get called "good girl" or greeted with "hey girl". Be selective too about words like "dude" or "guys" for the reader, even when used without intent to be gendered. Watch out for "she" and "her" or "he" and "his" occurrences that slip in by accident when writing about the reader. Also, if the love interest is caught kissing "another girl" or "another boy" you have just gendered the reader. Kissing "a girl" or "a boy" avoids that.
Mentions of clothes, jewelry, hair length, and makeup are more ways reader inserts might lean into a gender unintentionally. Skirts or long hair truly can be worn by anyone, but for many readers there will be a gendered cultural association in their mind. I have seen dresses and bras show up out of nowhere in some stories marked Gender Neutral leaving a reader bewildered if not given advance notice. Better to let someone skip the fic after reading disclosures in the contents paragraph upfront than be frustrated halfway through.
Who are your reader's friends and roommates? If they are only one gender, that can feel like the reader has been gendered even if unsaid, especially if they are living in a sorority or fraternity house.
Have you brought up specific body parts? Lots of stories include that, but be thoughtful about how the reader is catalogued in the pre-story notes. For instance, Gender Neutral AFAB (assigned female at birth) is one way to describe a reader insert character but ignores the full range of AFAB bodies. To be more inclusive in a world where people are intersex or transition medically, you can instead simply state the relevant anatomy. Reader has developed breasts. Reader has a penis. Reader has a vagina. Reader has top surgery scars. It is that easy.
Thank you to the people who do work crafting stories for those of us who are less often represented. It truly means a lot. If you are a reader, do let authors know how important their choice of making gender neutral stories is to you. The authors you become familiar with who can always be trusted when they label a fic Gender Neutral Reader are precious. Reblog their work to help others find such a treasure.
To anyone who writes stories with a gendered reader and is looking this over out of curiosity, I would like to ask one thing of you. Could you review how you list pairings? Are you specific about who your reader insert is when it comes to gender? So many times Character x "Reader" is used without any other modifier despite excluding plenty of readers. Your followers will already know who you are writing for, but people catching a reblog or discovering through tags want to know the gender of the reader insert without having to skim multiple paragraphs.
If your reader insert is a woman, say that. "Fem Reader" seems used to mean either female or feminine, which can be very different things, so it helps to use the full word for clarity. If the story shows your reader insert is cisgender, say that in advance. There is nothing wrong with catering to any of those audiences, but the lack of disclosure makes sifting through reader insert fanfiction on Tumblr a disheartening process for the rest of us.

introduction
hello! i'm valory! this is my black dragon blog!
• any/all pronouns, primarily they/them
• nonbinary therifluid genderfluid system
• adult
quick table of contents for what's below:
• before you interact (with me)
• do not interact (if)
• general faq (and some)
• other socials (of mine)
• tags (that i use here)
do note any of this is due to be changed as needed, i'm kind of new to this!
before you interact
do not interact:
• I DRAW AND ENJOY NSFW! there likely won't be a lot on this page, but still, minors should not follow me! i'll be tagging as appropriate, so it won't be too big of an issue, and this blog is not NSFW centric.
• as stated on my main, i block liberally and as i please. please don't take it personally!
• MY CHARACTERS DO INVOLVE HEAVY TOPICS! i'm not getting into the nitty gritty of why and how and i don't need to. that said, i apologize greatly if they unnerve you, but i will post what i want and about what i want! i will tag them as "cw: topic" with no censorship, so be sure you have them in your blocked tags
general faq
• general dni criteria
• radfems, terfs, obviously the shebang
• minority shaming in general
• those of you who are weird about poc and transgender character designs i'm not having it
Q: what is black dragon? who is Y? what pronouns should i use?
A: black dragon is a minecraft-inspired world i've been working on for about 3 or 4 years. as for characters, every character will also be tagged as appropriate. pronouns for characters will be included in the posts! my toyhouse page has most if not all of my characters, which will be linked below.
Q: who owns X? where can i find them?
A: if a character is here that i don't own, i'll always directly tag the creator! if they are not okay with this, i will not do that and will instead either mention them offhandedly or clarify i do not own the character.
Q: do you take requests? am i allowed to draw X?
A: i will not take requests unless it's from somebody in black dragon directly, and even then, i'm pretty bad at keeping up with them, so bare with me! additionally, you don't have to ask to draw my characters, please tag me when you do i would love to see!
A: yes, however; please ask first! even if it's on anon. i love NSFW especially of my characters but it can be jarring to see it out of nowhere with no warning, especially from strangers. you should especially get my permission if you want to do it with another character, including shipping!
...feel free to ask anything you need to and i'll add it here if it's relevant enough!
Q: can i make an OC for X?
A: please ask for permission before you do so! black dragon is very near and dear to my heart. if you do decide to, i would be honored to help you with it, so feel free to contact me however!
other socials
i also have an alt tumblr for more generalized oc/worldbuilding settings! as well as that, my toyhouse is below with all of my characters!

hi! i saw your post about the insane things that occur in the DEH novel and i was wondering if you could explain the trans one? i’m very interested and confused lol
Sure thing! In the first chapter of the novel, Evan complains to the reader that the first day of school "always feels like sensory overload," especially because of all the new information he has to absorb about everyone:
"New wardrobes, tech, vehicles. New hair styles, colors, lengths. New piercings and tattoos. New couples. Whole new sexual orientations and gender identities. New classes, students, teachers" (p. 11).
It's so jarring and out of left field after listing a ton of aesthetic, surface-level stuff...unless you think that other people's queerness is also aesthetic and surface level. My least favorite part is that genders and sexualities are the only ones that are whole new, implying that they're not just new to the individual students who just came out but instead, you know, recently invented. Over summer vacation.
It's not the most offensive part of the novel by any means. It's not even the most queerphobic part of the novel. It's just a moment that profoundly baffles me because it's so random and microaggresive, sandwiched in the middle of a dozen completely banal things.
Also, if you listen to the audiobook you get to hear that line read out loud by nonbinary gay Evan Hansen veteran Ben Levi Ross, who I imagine had some thoughts and feelings in the recording studio that day.

i'm trying to collect random screenshots to showcase the details from Ranboo's new background
pride stickers! gay pride, nonbinary pride, and trans pride! Heart and star stickers. These are all on the arcade on the left side of the screen.
correction: the jar beside the rubix cube is a jar of frosting, not the jar from his just chatting stream where the notifs would go into like i thought.
Garfield (one of two plushes), and particle plushes (its US!!!)
There are three shelves to the right of the stream, but the third on top is cut off by the follow/sub list. It's blue, i think. I like the green and red it's like a nice reminder of where Ranboo's brand came from.
And here are some patches from R800's jacket! We have a jackalope with eyes and eyes surrounding it, a cyber-star, a particle, and a crown!
if you have any more details, or corrections, just let me know! ALSO i want to thank the artists for doing this it all looks amazing!!! they're linked in Ranboo's twitch description!!!!

Random photo dump for 2023...
Those outdoorsy and hotel pictures were taken on a planned trip to Portland, OR. It is everything you've thought about when the word "hipster" comes to mind. The majority of the food that I consumed was amazing: fresh, intentionally selected ingredients, so many food trucks and restaurants that were birthed from food truck conversions.
Seattle was weird to me. It IS weird. It also is suffering deeply from the struggles of the unhoused and temporarily displaced. But there is still beauty in her cracks. I have to separate my line of work from the city because she is so much bigger than my 12 hour shifts.
Portland is like this. Go and see it. Put it on your bucket list and budget for it.
Amarylis is a beautiful girl, and she has impending appointments to be made. She screams at me for attention and never says "no" in cat to affection from her parents. It's more like a "not right now" in cat, where she appears affronted that you'd so much as touch her and then sashays as she turns away from you and starts preening and grooming. Diva...
She's been a great source of comfort to me, though. Amarylis never fails to curl up at the foot of the bed while I go to sleep or just nuzzle my legs and sit beside me when I'm relaxing at home. She is the chillest of cats except for when it's close to the hours of 5am and 4/5pm, her feeding times, and then she becomes this feigning, wild-eyed, desperate, whiny little thing practically prostrating at your feet.
But other than that, she's wonderful. 10/10. Would clone another of her for sure!
That. Coffee. Bar.
I made that. 🥹😭
It's very Magnolia Home and Pinteresr-inspired. Did I nail the modern farmhouse look? Yes? I'm going to say I did. Emphatically. The bar was ordered off of Amazon and is really good quality. It took like 2 hours to install with my partner.
The knick knacks: mugs, coffee stirrers, canisters, and storage jars, and what have you are from Fred Meyer (local grocery store chain out here that's like this regional part of the country's answer to Wal-Mart. It literally has everything, even jewelry and engagement rings), Wal-Mart, Amazon Fresh (that cute pop of orange from that mug in the left corner? A free promotion giveaway and thank you gift from the associates at the Amazon Go in my apartment complex. I have two.), and Target.
In a few months, I will be visiting my parents' homeland of Jamaica. My home away from home. My other place. My Caribbean heritage. I am quietly excited and celebratory but also personally struggling so...
I'm peac-ing out for now. I'll lurk on here and probably won't post like this for another few months. Expect the occasional random reblog. Maybe I'll post vacation pics to Jamaica. Sans family. Just me and my boo.
But, before that, I have to deal with some personal shit: work stress, life stress, my stress...and all the effed up mess, and then I need to love on my man. He's been holding me down since day one and never ever stops. Of course, I support and cheerlead him 200 percent all day every day. That's Bae. I know what I offer and what my value is. He meets and matches that exponentially and without question or complaint. 10/10. Bitch, get you a cis- or Trans or nonbinary or asexual or whatever and however they want to be identified as- Grade A Patrick. Or I could just clone him.
Alright, ya'll, let me shut up cuz I know this shit isn't getting read to the very end.
Until next time, lovelies... ✌🏿
Xoxo💋

Reading Goals for 2023
I've set up reading goals for myself each year for the last few years, and aside from Goodreads reading goals, I don't think I've met a single goal. So I decided to keep my goals for this year pretty simple. At least, by my standards.
Read 100 books
I've decided to change how I'm doing my TBRs this year, based on a few factors I either know will work better for me, or that I'm hoping will. Rather than doing monthly TBR lists, I want to create Bingo cards for every three months. I'm hoping that it will give me a little more flexibility with the books I'm reading, as well as take off the pressure to finish TBR lists. I'll have four Quarterly TBR cards with 25 books each.
Keep TBR jar tag at or below 450 books
The main objective of this goal is to make sure I'm reading at least as many books as I'm buying, without overwhelming myself. I want to make sure I'm reading books I own, but I also have a list of book series (I'll be posting that later) that I've decided that if I don't continue or finish by the end of the year, I will be marking as DNF and archiving the books I own. That will help with this goal, as well.
Read a little each day
This one's pretty simple. I tend to spend a lot of time on my phone, and I want to replace some of that time with reading time every day.
Read more diversely
This is one I include in my goals every year, but I never quite know how to determine whether or not I've succeeded. So this year, I've given myself specific goals. I want to read more books by Indigenous, Latinx, and Trans and nonbinary authors, as these are the categories I read the least from in 2022. I also want 50% or more of the books I read to be written by POC authors.
Read more Middle-Grade and Adult books
Not to say there's anything wrong with reading YA. It's just that, for the last few years, the majority of what I've read has been YA, and I would like to branch out a bit more into other age groups. It also has a bit to do with work, since I work with students who would be included in the middle-grade age range.
2023 TBR Bingo cards
I have two Bingo cards I've put together for 2023: one has specific books I want to read, and one has prompts that I'll be able to choose books to read for each one. The goal is to have six prompts from each on each Quarterly TBR. Here are the cards:
There are my goals for this year! I’m looking forward to seeing where my reading journey takes me this year!

I had surgery right before rebloging that and am just now checking the activity on my blog and man... this was a trip.
I stand by my statment that Amnesia Guy With Confusing Phone is a good character as evident of how long it too me to figure out what someones response ment post anesthesia.
To answer the question, and for anyone who needs Ideas...
My phone has some of these from like... 2012 and I still barely remeber who goes with what:
That Guy (with a picture of Chrona from Soul Eater because That Guy was an entity who confused and frustrated me despite being one of my best friends) - jokes on us... I somehow assigned a nonbinary character to my friend who did not yet know she was trans. It took 10 years and its still hilarious.
Jonathan Frakes
John (and its just a picture of the band The Police) - I THINK this was a sound guy I did a gig with and I have way too many Johns in my phone.
Jeff - but I know it's my friend Stewart. I dont even get the joke anymore.
Kaylee - I THINK is a girl named Marie who I grew up. Idk who else would have earned that vibe. (Firefly reference)
Koala
Mal Reynalds - My cousin with a very proffessional picture
Naruto, Goku
My own FATHER is in my phone as a Terminator Reference:
Reese, Tech-Com
I have a scam call(?) Marked as "Who is calling and why are they calling?" With a stormtrooper for the icon. That alone would be fantastic for a story about amnesia if you had like... a secret agent plot with a normal guy.
So... to give an example of realism: I still get very confused by Jeff. That is NOT remotely that guys name. I know the other references in my phone but I obviously did not name Jeff. I only know it's Stewart because I know what our conversations look like.
I have no clue which of the 6 Jonathan's in my life got assigned a star trek reference. I probably need to clean that one out of my phone because IDK who that is. Same with John. I have a VAUGE memory of doing the Police as the picture because Sound Guy but even that is a weird association because there is no guy named John in that band.
Imagine not remebering things and having a situation requiring you to contact some rando in a phone and trying to figure out where Stewart is and it be under a guy named Jeff.
Another very real example is if someone else has to use said phone. I used to have BOTH parents under goofy names. My mom was something like "Zordon" from power rangers. Then I added her to my emergecy list so it was ICE Zordon.
Imagine someone having an emergency on the street and having to figure out who the heck ICE Zordon is and praying you have the right emergency contact and not some weird hotline.
Feel like I should add that this was on the list of "dumb shit I did from ages 13-18 that still haunts me" as a warning to anyone who would otherwise have a Skibidi Toliet where my phone at one point definitely had garys mod references. It wasn't until I had to sort out the Too Many Johns that I realized basic naming is actually worth it.
As for organization... yesnt. My phone is kind of a precarious record of eras and phases. My friends were named based on whichever character they were assigned when we went through a phase together. Kaylee, for example- Marie was a bubbly creative person who reminded me of the character from Firefly. I didnt anticipate adulthood pushing away that whimsy once I had work contacts and business dealings. I thought I would change it eventually, but over a decade later I still squint and try to jar the memory loose. That Guy brings back an instant memory of the smell of the courtyard on the first day of school when we were highschoolers playing Ninja and reading whatever successor to Warrior Cats.
I dont remeber or organize. Its all association. Method of Loci locked away in natural memory as senses and smells and visions of events.
Even with names, some of them dont mean anything. I think Zera was the name of someone who's phone was scammed and the scammer kept callin me. I remeber that because it was a scary lesson for me as a young college intern. Two Tori's and different last names - vauge familiarity but from where I dont know.
I know Goku belongs to a friend who may as well be my younger brother, though we don't talk since he went to med school.
Naruto automatically summons memories of long days in the study room on campus in college. High school lunch breaks discussing computer science.
The point is, believe it or not it was a strategy. I stopped doing it when I grew up but only after a bit of bullying and some misadventures. It was a survival trait adopted by a young naive teenager who was moving from a world of early online culture into a real world of people and connections.
It was never really about the organization or structure... it was about giving context to the interaction.
But if I were to lose those connections, that context... I would certainly have some questions about who That Guy is and why He /It/ [really just she] was in my favorites.
new character idea: dude who wakes up with amnesia for whatever reason and tries to go through their phone to figure out "ok who do i allegedly know well enough to get their help" except pre-amnesia!dude had all their contact names like this:

I'm non-binary or maybe trans, I was wondering if you have any advice if I want to tell my parents and school that I want to change my name? My school is technically an all-girls school, so it would be great if I could be advised further about that.
I'm sorry I never got a clear notification for this question! I don't know if this is still relevant but just in case it is or useful for anyone else:
If your parents do not already know you're trans/nonbinary, then bringing up the idea of a name change may come as a shock to them, especially if you're wanting a name that is more neutral or masculine. In that case, I personally would take the route of coming out first (even if it's a "I'm questioning my gender" type of coming out). But before doing this it would be helpful to know how your parents feel about LGBTQ+ topics as a whole. If they're generally accepting to your knowledge then coming out isn't as risky. If you don't know how they view these topics, you can bring it up using other people as examples. "This actor/actress in this show/movie I watched is trans" for example and gauging the reaction.
If they DO know you're trans/nonbinary and are accepting but you haven't brought up a name change before, then you can bring it up in various different ways. "What would you have named me if I had been born the other sex?" Can be a good discussion topic. Or "I've been thinking about it really hard about it and I think I want to change my name (list reasons here)". Sometimes it can help to engage your parents in this process as it can help the whole thing feel less "jarring" for them. Like showing a list of names you like.
If you don't want to outright come out but want to go by a different name, sometimes people will try and come up with a neutral nickname, either based off of their birth name or something that has some sort of meaning to it. This works especially well with schools, at least where I live they do. I'm not sure where you're located and how they handle people who use nicknames in place of their full names (like someone who goes by Alex but their full first name is Alexander)
I'm not really sure how this works with schools that are single gender, as that's not something I have any experience or really any knowledge in. I live in an area that doesn't have anything like that as I live pretty rural. Do you know of any trans people at your school? Do you know what your country/state/province/etc. Laws are when it comes to gender identity and schooling?
Overall I think the first steps here would be gathering information to make an informed decision. Like laws, policies, parental views/opinions, if you have any peers that are trans, etc.
For my own experience with schooling while trans that may or may not be relevant as my situation was different: we simply told the school(s) that I was trans and what my chosen name was. They made sure my chosen name was what was used by teachers and faculty, and my (prior) legal name was only visible where legally necessary and as a part of school based logins for websites. The area I live in has transgender protection laws in place so they legally couldn't give me too much issue.
