Studying linguistics is actually so wonderful because when you explain youth slang to older professors, instead of complaining about how "your generation can't speak right/ you're butchering the language" they light up and go “really? That’s so wonderful! What an innovative construction! Isn't language wonderful?"
Like you said, fuck the haters. My sister's a little older than me (though I can't say how old or else you might get an idea of my age, something I think I'll keep a mystery for now) and I've proved to have more common sense than her on multiple occasions, so whatever she says goes in one ear and out the other anyway.
It's very nice to meet you as well, by the way. Has anyone ever told you you're incredibly attractive when you language swap? Yeah..
I don't know what I'm getting into, I admit, but then again, I never do.
As for who I am? I think I can tell you.

Somebody.
Good thing I like ✨mysteries✨.
Younger sister has more common sense than older sister. 🤔...🤔🤔🤔
I dunno about my attractiveness, but je comprends que les langues autres que l'anglais soient excitantes, mais sono pessima nel parlare alcune di queste lingue. Francés, Italiano, Español? Si, puedo sobrevivir, men bede mig om at tale dansk? Nein. 💩 I can still read it, and am literate in several, it's just the speaking part of some of them that I'm terrible at. But I love learning them, even if it's just to be able to read international news in their original. Aprender otras lenguas es aprender otras culturas. Jeg liker også dansk, svensk og norsk (og jeg elsker finsk), mais rien ne dépasse les langues romanes, surtout quand...never mind.
Quale preferisce che le scriva? 🫠
If it makes you feel any better, I never know what I'm getting into either, and I'm now half a gd century old. That's Gen X for you...we like to dive in without checking if there's water in the pool. "Darwin Awards" was truly established for my generation by my generation.
Somebody, huh. So...you're an all star?

I'm so sorry. I hate that song. I don't know what came over me, aside from being really gd tired. I need a palate cleanser.
Mr waistcoat did you do research of the Czech language and pronunciation? todays statement made me giggle with the pronunciation of "otevři své srdce" it sounded so russian
I did as much research as I could without actually knowing anyone who speaks Czech that I could consult with at short notice (I edited the episode ages beforehand, and only remembered it had the Czech phrases when I was already mid-recording), so mostly it was YouTube and referring to the International Phonetic Alphabet, then giving it my best shot. I'm under no impression I nailed it, but hey, you just do your best with this stuff. Doesn't surprise me it sounded Russian - I've a lot more experience trying to pronounce Russian words than Czech, so it makes sense my voice goes in that direction when trying to use similar phonemes.
I understand that literature nerd Jason Todd is kind of overblown in fanon compared to it's actual presence in canon (a few issues during his pre (and post?)crisis Robin tenure that highlight it) BUT consider that I think it's hilarious if the unhinged gun toting criminal has strong opinions on poetry
yeah we all know (and love <3) all the butches with masculine personality; and let me make it clear that you’re all loved and valid!! but let’s talk about butches that cannot or simply don’t want to get rid of their “feminine” traits and energy.
like seriously i could never kill a spider without screaming or change your car’s tire but i’ll definitely cook you the best dinner when you get home from work and i’ll be more than happy to stitch the holes of your favorite shirt, with all the patience in the world; because that’s how my mother and my grandmother used to show their love to me. i could never ever ever imagine being affectionate to someone in any other way.
something that always bothered me as a transmasc butch was the fact that everyone would clock me the moment i opened my mouth, which is already something that causes me waaaay too much dysphoria. so, i would try to “compensate” that by being the most masculine being that i could ever be. but deep down, i knew that i wasn’t being fully me, you know?
not being “masculine enough” would often make me feel like i wasn’t butch enough, that i wasn’t doing the “job” correctly or something. at least where i’m from, people expect me to fill that role and pretty much just act like a man 24/7.
but as i was cooking some dinner for myself and my mom tonight, something hit me; i’ll never be 100% masculine when it comes to my traits, my energy or even the way i speak. i’ll protect you, i’ll be there for you and i’ll try my best to intimidate whoever tries something bad with you. but sometimes, maybe i’d wanna be protected too; maybe i’d wanna be the little spoon every now and then; maybe i’ll cry in front of you and expect you to dry my tears. and that won’t ever make me less masculine or less butch.
i hope that my future partner understands that, no matter what happens; at the end of the day, i’ll still be your guy. i’ll just be a sensitive guy, you know? it’s kinda scary to admit this out loud but i feel like someone out there would like to know that they’re not alone. butches come in all shapes and forms, and it may be scary to be this kind of butch in a world where masculinity is praised, but i think we’ll be fine.
and also my dinner was so delicious what the fuckkk 🤤🤤🤤 i’m such a good cook like i genuinely believe i’m the butch version of guy fieri
i was talking with my friends about how dutch dirty talk is such an instant turn off for most of us, and i wonder if thats a dutch thing or a general non-native english speaker thing (or a just my friends thing)
Today I'm thinking about how playing Frodo Baggins is a thankless job in much the same way Frodo actually carrying the Ring was.
Like, when people talk about performances in LOTR adaptations, they talk about Sam, they talk about Gollum, they talk about Gandalf and Galadriel. All these characters that have iconic lines and big flashy moments of greatness or bravery or twistedness that let the actor show off. Frodo doesn't have any of those. What Frodo does have is the arguably harder job of making something external that is almost entirely internal, and, in most adaptations, having the most to do, just from a time-on-stage/screen/microphone perspective. But this never seems to get acknowledged and that's always kinda weird/interesting to me. I suppose people just respond to the big heroic/heartwarming/menacing moments, and not so much to littler moments of the same kinds. In the musical, in one of the dialogue breaks in "Now And For Always", Frodo says to Sam "It's not me they'll remember, you know". And that's funny because even if Sam tries to fight that in-universe with the finishing of The Red Book, it consistently ends up being true in a meta sense.
Anyway I suppose what I'm saying is appreciate Christopher Guard, Sir Ian Holm, Elijah Wood, James Loye, James Byng, Louis Maskell, and Spencer Davis Milford or die by my blade.
[A sad violin song plays over an image of a sad hamster]
Pac: This doesn't have anything to do with me – I wear a blue sweatshirt, you're crazy, this mouse doesn't even have a sweatshirt, this hamster! [Reading chat] Am I a depressed hamster?

Pac: Actually– that's fine! I embrace that idea – of course I'm going to be depressed, are you crazy? [He hits his desk, then starts counting off people on his fingers] Fit is gone, Richarlyson is gone, Ramon is gone, Bagi and Empanada who were always there when we were there are also gone, I haven't seen them! It's just me and Tubbo, and sometimes Philza shows up.
Pac: I lost Chume Labs, I lost the Favela, I lost Murder Mystery, I lost Ilha Chume Labs, it's crazy! Look at how much I've lost, and I've gained nothing! Of course I'm going to be depressed, are you crazy?! How am I supposed to be happy?!
Pac: [Reading chat] "You have us Pac," that's true, thank you. No, that's true, sorry.

I would like to remind everyone the main point of this comic was that Fuyuhiko is a sweetie true yakuza boss who has the inherent desire to take care of people!
As someone who can still get around in France and Italy without any problems (I'm also multiliterate, as I can read several languages and understand the texts, which is why I collect non-English translations of popular books) this makes me sad
Learn a language other than English. It'll teach you a lot about a culture and how other people perceive the world.
ETA: Remember that phenom I mentioned yesterday re: Lolita...well, this just popped up in my face on FB. I knew this already, but Mexico, you idiot.
I'm not sure if you're aware but John Travolta was invited to the Sanremo Festival (a very BIG deal) in Italy and the hosts, Amadeus and Fiorello, made him dance the "qua qua qua" (the chicken dance). He had to wear a chicken hat, but Travolta refused. He also didn't sign the documents that would allow the whole scene to be played again - so the whole chicken dance thing with him will not be shown in tv ever again - and he's been receiving so much shit by Amadeus and everybody else because he obviously knew what was going to happen and he was like super paid for his appearance
and it doesn't stop here lol
The festival lasts a week, and they have guests every night - yesterday night was Travolta, tonight was Russell Crowe. Crowe loves Italy, Italy loves Crowe. Crowe sung with his band (he was great tbh) and he then answered some questions asked by the hosts. He low-key made a joke about the Travolta thing and Amadeus had to high-five him (because how can you not) and now we are all waiting (but not really, the festival is much more important) to see if the fucking festival will make two Hollywood stars fight or not.
I was reading DunMeshi and was so confused by this phrase that I decided to look it up
(Do correct me if you think this isn’t accurate cuz I just used google)
But I find it frankly hilarious that Chilchuck is using slang from various parts of the British Isles out of nowhere in the last volume??
(I’ve now had someone explain to me that apparently it’s not uncommon for certain uncommon types of informal Japanese to be translated as slang from specific areas, typically around Britain, in English)
First of all I’d alr seen people jokingly headcanoning him as Irish on here (which was an idea I absolutely love)
ALSO I come from a part of the UK where I’m very familiar with the term ‘git’ but had never heard of a version with an e and I also had no idea it meant the same as ‘bastard’
(I have considered that this could just be the regular meaning of the word ‘get’ but I thought it wouldn’t grammatically make sense here so I assumed it was slang esp cuz he would totally call someone a git)
Anyways I’ve checked other translations and it’s not the same so I find it so funny that this one (which I’m pretty sure is the official English translation) included it
(^ another version I found online)
Anyways this is the translation I have and used as an example for this post, which I’m pretty sure is the official English translation:
Edit: Btw also check tags I kinda wrote this when I was drunk on sleep deprivation
