Look Below for pictures (and slight description for those unfamiliar)
You can vote/pick one based on what ever criteria you want. Which one you like best/ think you'd like, Which one you know, anything.
The Poll isn't for anything in particular beyond fun and just in general wonder what people think of these.
Though feel free to say where you are from in the tags / or comments if you reblog.
Poutine
A classic. Fries smothered in Gravy with cheese curds. Total comfort food.
Nanimo Bars
Delicious three layer sweet treat- Wafer, nut and coconut crumb base, custard icing in the middle with a chocolaty top layer. So sweet but so good
Butter Tarts
As the name suggests a very buttery pastry. Butter Sugar Syrup and Egg filling (frequently made with raisins or pecans)
All Dressed Chips
A wild combination of flavours that sounds kinda gross (imo) but honestly tastes pretty good. ketchup, barbecue sauce, sour cream and onion, and salt & vinegar. (Seriously I don't know how but it works and they balance each other out)
Beaver Tails
Long/ stretched out pieces of Fried Dough that well look like Beaver Tails. Basically topped with anything sweet. Basically and elongated version of the similar fried dough treat Elephant Ears
Jos Louis
Delicious Chocolaty snack that are NOT the same as Moon Pies. These are very soft kinda cake like in texture - compared to a Moon Pies more like cookie sorta thing.
Smarties
No they aren't just "M&Ms" For one Smarties Came first- technically started in the UK but they're a pretty strong staple of Canadian Snacks so it gets a pass.
Maple Syrup on a Stick / Maple Taffy
Exactly as advertised, hot liquid maple syrup poured on a stick over clean snow (or just directly into spots made in the snow) once cooled and hardened you eat.
#Canadian foods#Let's see how many canadians I can pull out of the wood work#and how many of these do non Canadian's know#polls

'I flirted with the idea that instead of being trans that I was just a cross-dresser (a quirk, I thought, that could be quietly folded into an otherwise average life) and that my dysphoria was sexual in nature, and sexual only. And if my feelings were only sexual, then, I wondered, perhaps I wasn’t actually trans.
I had read about a book called The Man Who Would Be Queen, by a Northwestern University professor who believed that transwomen who were attracted to women were really confused fetishists, they wanted to be women to satisfy an autogynephilia. And though I first read about this book in the context of its debunkment and disparagement, I thought about the electricity of slipping on those tights, zipping up those boots, and a stream of guilt followed. Maybe this professor was right, and maybe I was only a fetishist. Not trans, just a misguided boy.
About a year later, on the Internet, I come across a transwoman who added a unique message to the crowd refuting this professor. Oh, I wish I remember who this woman was, and I wish even more that I could do better than paraphrase her, but I remember her saying something like this: “Well, of course I feel sexy putting on women’s clothing and having a woman’s body. If you feel comfortable in your body for the first time, won’t that probably mean it’ll be the first time you feel comfortable, too, with delighting in your body as a sexual thing?”'
-Casey Plett, Consciousness
#this quote always moves me almost to tears when i remember it#i'm not a trans woman and i don't share the author's specific experiences with transition#but it really moves me that she frame transition as joyfully giving yourself permission to approach your body#not as something that has to be disciplined and deprived and made small in all these various ways#but as a means for experiencing pleasure and joy and delight and for insisting that our feelings and desires are worth#valuing and exploring and treasuring#i always used to think of prioritizing those things for myself as selfish and irresponsible#but who does it harm to want to experience pleasure in your own body?#it's such a beautifully simple and powerful switch to have flip in your head#and equally why are we forced to deny our own pleasure in transition and anything else related to our bodies in the name of moral rectitude#this is why i get so confused and pissed off when other trans people are fatphobic for example#like why are you so invested in politics of shame and disgust that never had any purpose other than#violently disciplining people as if they've violated moral codes by existing in a body#to say nothing of white people being racist in gay and trans communities#like again this system of violence is foundational to homophobia and transphobia#so why are you acting like it has nothing to do with you#even if you are unmoved by the urgency of other people's suffering which btw you should be moved by#what do you hope to gain by acting a collaborator and handmaiden to those systems#Casey Plett#she really is one of my favorite authors i wish more non-canadians read her#this quote is from a series of columns she did ont transition and every single one is a banger#i love when she talks about the people-pleasing elements of dysphoria and transition denial#she's so sharp about noting how many of us deny our own dysphoria on the grounds that others like and validate our bodies#that's how i always felt during my cis conventionally feminine era#it pleased other people so much and also that reception felt so hollow and joyless to me because i hated it#i get less of that positive feedback but that feels so unimportant next to the joy and pleasure i get to experience#said with the understanding that i'm very privileged in being able to prioritize those things without fear. but it was a switch flip#personal nonsense

Just something quick!! 🥺👉👈 It's Audrey Grace getting her GED diploma! GED is a test you can take as an adult if you never got to finish high school—which she couldn't, because the zombie apocalypse interrupted it. It's always bothered her a lot, and she really wants to go to university too, so then last year she was finally able to settle down in her life enough to study for this test!! And now here she is at her graduation!! This day means everything to her. 😤
Today is also her birthday which is why I wanted to draw something anyway. She's 27 now. 🥰 Happy birthday Audreyyyy!!
#miru art#audrey grace#audtree#the lorax#graduation#'something quick' means i spent like 12 hours on this lol#also for non-American/Canadians out there: yes we wear these graduation hats for high school grad! :D#i know customs are different everywhere

do i.. WANT to know about the drumlins?
YES YOU DO
Drumlins are glacial landforms, which means you find them only in places that have been glaciated. And they're very distinct when you know what you're looking for.
A hill with one steep side, one looooong sloping side, and you've (most likely) got yourself a drumlin. (Unless it's small. Drumlins are tens of meters high and hundreds of meters long, so if you've got a short one with way more elongation, you've got a drumlinoid.) They're all over Canada, the north eastern US, and northern Europe. The one pictured above is in Ireland. The ones in Canada and the US formed as the Laurentide Ice Sheet, a kilometers thick mass of glacial ice, was spreading across North America during the Last Glacial Maximum
There are lots of really cool glacial landforms (eskers and kames and lakes (Glacial Lake Agassiz my beloved) and like a dozen types of moraine), but drumlins are my favourite because they're so incredibly easy to identify, they occur in swarms, and they're kinda weird as hell
There's still some debate among geomorphologists about how, exactly, they form but I was told that the (mindbogglingly huge mass of) ice catches on a sticky uppy bit of bedrock and instead of mowing it down like a child kicking over a stack of blocks, moves around it instead. And because there's now a place behind the bedrock where there's less ice, the ice drops a whole bunch of glacial till (all the bits of sediment that did get mowed down like a child kicking over a stack of blocks) on the other side of the bedrock bit
(This is a constructional theory, where the drumlin is built up. the other main one is the erosional theory, where everything but the drumlin is eroded. There's also a theory that drumlins are deposited by subglacial meltwater, but that one is highly controversial)
"Now wait," I hear you say, "go back a bit. What the fuck was that about swarms?"
They occur in swarms.
If you've got one drumlin, good chances you've got a lot of drumlins. Which is actually amazing, because the steep side of the drumlin faces the direction of flow, which means we know exactly how the ice sheet moved. In this image, for example, the ice started at the top, near Lake Ontario, and then moved south. From looking at drumlins (and other glacial landforms, we do like to have multiple reference points), we know that the Laurentide Ice Sheet started in the Hudson Bay and crept out from there
And because they're so distinct (tear drop shaped, made of till, occur in swarms), and because drumlins can only have been made by glacial activity, we can look all over the world and find these things and know that this place was once under several thousand tonnes of ice
Not during the Last Glacial Maximum, but definitely ones before it. And I just think that's neat
#'glacial till' I say as if all till isn't glacial#that's only in there for the non-geologists tbh#I love drumlins so much#they're neat#rocks#long post#Loxie has words#geology#geomorphology#These thing can be made of some weird things too#Here in Alberta we're on carbonate rock#because of that ocean that used to be here before BC crashed into us#but we've got granite in our till deposits#which was imported here by the glacier express from Ontario#where the Canadian Shield is exposed#the Shield which is made of granite and other igneous rocks#(we've got granite too but it's buried *deep* beneath the carbonate)

I know I’m “just” Canadian, not American. That, technically speaking, the US election doesn’t impact me as much as it will the people across the border.
And yet, I still feel extreme sadness this morning. For the women across the border. For the members of the LGBTQ+ community across the border. For the BIPOC communities across the border.
For Ukrainians. For Palestinians. For all the people suffering because of endless wars.
For the environment.
For democracy.
I had hopes. France had managed to relatively keep at bay the right wing party of Le Pen at l’Assemblée nationale (vive le système à deux tours), the UK ousted the conservatives to return to the Labour Party, Brazil kicked out Bolsonaro. I thought maybe the US would follow suit and tell the crook and his cronies that they were done…
But no. Disinformation won. Ignorance won. Misogyny won. Racism won.
He got to be lawless while she had to be flawless.
While there’s not much I can do from my side of the border (except make sure something similar doesn’t happen here), I will say this: facts matter. Knowing if something is true or not before sharing it matters. Even the most inane “fun fact”. If we start making sure that what we share is true with the small things, we might eventually be able to do it with the bigger things.
#us elections#i am not okay#I either feel numb or start crying#sending hugs to all the Americans who feel the same way (and worse) than this Canadian#sending hugs to all the non-Americans who feel just as shitty#this is a safe space

Realizing now that I have the inexplicable urge to make men work, especially if they're physically fit. Like oh? You lift? Well, how about you go lift those heavy bags of soil and mulch and distribute them evenly throughout my gardens? Go grab that ladder and clean out my eavestroughs 🫵🤨. Go prune that tree that's growing a little too close to my roofline. Repair the steps leading up to my front porch. Help me assemble this new piece of furniture I got. Build me a shed to store my outdoor furniture and garden tools in. You got those big muscles, now use them 🫵🤨.
#i see those hunky dudes chopping firewood online for clout and I'm not that impressed#like sweetie go raise a timber frame barn for me with your fellow hunks and THEN I'll be impressed with your physique#idk what you want to call that#foremen kink? ensuring that men don't weaponize their incompetence and force me to do most of the labour around the household?#idk gotta make the menfolk around useful#gets me hot and bothered LMFAO#gotta make men earn their keep and work up a sweat lol#for non canadian followers: eavestrough is another word for the gutters on a house
