How To Lose Weight Safely?
The 4-step plan to lose weight safely and permanently.
Plan
All major projects need a plan. If you wish to lose weight you need to have a plan. You need to have a goal. You need to eat enough to keep your metabolism going full steam without stalling due to lack of calories. Look at your portion sizes. Trim away at the excess food you are consuming. Track your calories by checking food labels. Drink more water. Eat good and wholesome food like wholegrains, plenty of greens, fruits and vegetables, proteins and good fats. Include small amounts of good fats like olive oil, fish, avocado, nuts and seeds in your diet. They help keep you feeling satisfied and full for longer time. Eat legumes, whole grains, beans, peas, broccoli and fruits. They are fiber containing and they keep you full for longer.
Accountability
Use apps or daily food journal to track what you are eating. It is also a good idea to have a supportive friend or partner to help you keep moving in the right direction. If you slip or want to quit, they should be there to put you right back on track. You can even find such motivational friends/partners online where many like you are on similar journeys. Build each other up and stay motivated. Weight loss is a long journey and you need all the support you can get. Try intermittent fasting. It helps you to gain control over your 24 hour eating habit. It is hard initially but gradually you will learn to ignore the hunger signals and focus on something else. Gradual is the way to go when it comes to weight loss. When you lose weight fast, you tend to lose bone weight, muscle and water instead of fat. Try for 1-2 pounds of weight loss per week. Too much isn't practical. If you want weight loss to long term you need to make long-term changes. With quick-fix weight losses you will gain it all back because you haven't made changes that will last a life-time.
Learn About Yourself
What makes you crave food? What are your triggers? Why do you want to eat? It is time to learn about yourself and your eating habits. Some people react to stress, others to anger, some for comfort, others eat due to boredom. Some eat when they are eat or depressed. If emotions are driving you, learn to channel them elsewhere. Pick up some good habit like painting or listening to music or reading or going for a walk, when these emotions hit or the need to eat is triggered. Another reason folks eat is due to life long conditioning of not wasting food, not leaving anything on the plate. If that is problem cook a little less, serve yourself smaller portions, store away remaining food in the fridge for next meal. When you are offered free food or pay for a eat as much as you can buffet - control your impulses and eat just what you need. There is no need to justify the price. Think that you are paying for the ambience or the experience. Not for the food.
Eat Wholesome
Processed and tempting foods are everywhere. It is hard to avoid them. But if you want to change the way you look, change the way you eat. Stop shopping at the cookies and ice-cream counters. Go the fresh aisles sections and find all the fruits and vegetables you can eat. Shop the seeds and nuts aisles. Fill up your baskets with more fresh and leafy vegetables. Aim for a good mix of proteins, carbohydrates and fats in you diet. Foods rich in fiber are a good choice and so are fats and proteins. All these keep you feeling satiated for longer. There is a strict diet called the no carb diet where people don't eat any carbs at all.
