Ya wanna know what pisses me off most about PJO? (And HoO) ((I'm refusing to read TOA because I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN THE BURNING MAZE AND EVEN THOUGH I DID BUY THE FIRST FOUR BOOKS I'M NOT READING IT.))
It has been the ONLY book series (or just, series in general) to ACTUALLY MAKE ME CRY MORE THAN ONCE. Not just tear up, BUT FULL ON CRY.
Cried reading TLT because I related a little too much to Percy and it surprised me
Cried reading TTC because of Bianca and Zoe
Cried reading TLO, I have no idea why. I just cried.
Cried reading TLH because related a little too much to Leo
Cried reading TSoN because Hazel's backstory and Percy's Percyness made me sad (i love Percy he's just a little too mentally ill to not want to cry over)
Cried reading MoA because related a little too much to Leo. And Percy. (I'm sensing a theme here)
Cried reading HoH because you know why.
Cried reading BoO because you also know why. (It's about Leo again.)
Overall; I am an emotional b!tch. Rick Riordan is an enemy to my mental health with these stupid little characters. ESPECIALLY-
"The seventh wheel. Leo had heard of a fifth wheel—an extra, useless piece of equipment. He figured a seventh wheel was worse."
(somebody please talk to me about pjo literally none of my friends like it and i feel lonely)

just rewatched the episode of justice league unlimited when circe makes bruce sing “am i blue?” in order to turn diana back to normal and my sappy little brain is now thinking of bruce singing his boys lullabyes.
like think - a nightmare of dick’s gets too bad. he watches his parents fall to their deaths over and over and he can’t stop it. he wakes, screaming, and bruce dashes in and is caught off guard when dick’s sobbing into his pajamas. it’s the first thing he thinks of so he hums, low at first, but then he starts quietly singing the lyrics to some lost jazz song from the great american song book as he holds dick and within those three minutes, dick’s out like a light.
then comes jason. he gets a little too reckless in the field and he’s got himself an injury, a pretty bad one too. normally he sucks it up and takes the pain on like nobody’s business but maybe this one is just a little more painful. he’s just too tired and is now just an exhausted kid who’s emotionally overwhelmed. and he cries. cries like he’s never cried before. he’s in a lot of pain and wants it to stop. but then comes bruce with his gentle melodies and deep voice and suddenly the pain isn’t so bad anymore.
(thinking about how after the whole death and revival thing and maybe jason and bruce are on shaky terms and while he’s not exactly clamoring to be with bruce, he buys himself a dandy little music box containing a song a certain someone use to sing to him and the first time he hears the melody, he sheds some silent tears. he listens to it any time he just needs to be calm. don’t tell bruce)
or there’s tim who doesn’t no when to say no (to staying up late, that is). three, four days go by and he’s still at a case he can’t just crack. he needs to sleep and he knows this but he’s this close. eventually he can’t keep trucking and he passes out all over his assortment of files and clues. he’s found drooling on one file and bruce resolves to just carry his kid to bed. he starts humming snd singing while he helps an unconscious tim get ready for bed. what bruce doesn’t realize is tim woke up when he felt the altitude change of being carried. bruce’s singing voice becomes one of tim’s favorite sounds in the whole world and he resolves to hear it anytime he can.
then we get to damian. he’s in a new environment, he doesn’t really trust much. then the unthinkable happens: he gets sick. its so remarkable cause he’s never gotten sick before. or, at least had someone to care for him. it’s some pesky little flu bug but it hits hard. he tries hiding himself away, not wanting to be seen as weak. in the middle of the night, he throws up. it hurts like a bitch. his stomach pushes but there’s nothing left to give. damian finds he can’t stand and bruce finds him. damian tries shooing him away, he doesn’t want to be seen as weak but eventually he just stops. he’s tired. he throws his head back down in the toilet and bruce lays a hesitant hand on his son’s back. when he’s not pushed away, he rubs soothing circles. again, he’s not dismissed. then, he sings. through the blood pounding in his ears, damian hears his father’s voice above the noise. it helps quite a bit.
that got longer than expected. i will now be listening to “am i blue?” on repeat. kevin conroy you are so loved and so missed.

Walk Around With Your Guts Hanging Out
(AO3 version)
Billy isn't fucking her but it works really well if everybody and their brother thinks that he is. Well, at first they think he's fucking her. And then because she's an adorable little gremlin and he lets her stick around for a while, everybody and their brother thinks they're dating, even though not a single soul who's ever met either one of them would've expected it.
Chrissy is exactly the opposite of Carol and Nicole and any of the other girls Billy uses to hide his secret - cotton candy and bubblegum voice, like a little girl, cardigans, the whole works. Neil actually seems pleased on the few times they've met, which is nearly enough to put him off all together. Then he remembers 'please, Jason, let go - please, you’re hurting me'. Remembers the vivid ugly color of the healing bruise across her shoulder. The vision of her in his mind he could see in eight or ten years - beaten up and broken, with a little blue-eyed boy clinging to her side just like his mom and he knows he'll never tell her to get lost.
Her parents, on the other hand, hate hate HATE Billy. He parties seven days a week. He drinks. He smokes. He swears. He spits. He wears black leather and faded denim instead of pressed khakis and polyester. His hair is longer than hers. Billy has seen the way her mother looks at Chrissy and recognized the familiar glare of Perpetual Dissatisfaction.
So, yeah he's maybe a little overprotective of her and that's fine because it looks like possessiveness on the outside and if it's not, it's nobody else's fucking business, okay?
He pulls her into his lap at parties, lets her pet his hair and giggle in his ear. If he was capable of loving a girl, he'd pick her if he had any choice, because they know all each other's secrets.
Except for one little, tiny detail.
Until the party at the quarry just before the new school year begins and he sees Harrington with this tall chick from his graduating class in the deep end, standing so close together and he can hear their voices echoing off the high spaces.
"You can do it, Robbie, I gotcha-" all cutesy and goo-goo eyed.
He wants to throw up.
"-just-just hang on," she says nervously, clutching onto Steve’s shoulders.
And Billy knows that he's staring, and it hurts so bad, but he can't look away-
"Oh," Chrissy says quietly, and then reaches down and squeezes his hand.
Billy forces himself to tear his eyes away, though they feel magnetized to Steve Harrington’s bare torso. The urge to keep staring wars with the sick, tight clench in his stomach as he watches this girl put her hands all over him. Shit, he didn’t used to have chest hair. Fuck.
His teeth grind together as his eyes sting, but he forces it back, blinks and looks at Chrissy. He has no way of knowing what his face is doing, but it can’t be good because her eyes crinkle with sympathy at his expression. “So…” she murmurs under her breath, taking his other hand. “That’s your guy, huh?”
“Not mine,” he mumbles, squeezing back as though he can…absorb her straight-ness, maybe? Christ, if only it worked like that… He swallows, his throat so tight that his voice comes out strained and hoarse: “I tried to-to…fuck, I don’t even know, Chris. I was really shitty to him. Wanted to get his attention.”
She swings their joined hands, pulls him in closer and goes up on her tiptoes to give him a hug. To an onlooker, it probably looks quite sweet and romantic. “What happened?”
He leans his face down, as though he is whispering sweet nothings in her ear. “Broke his face,” he mutters, stomach burning anew - with shame this time. “Could’ve killed him if my stepsister didn’t stop me.”
“Billy,” she sighs softly, sad in the way that only she is allowed to get away with - in anyone else, that comment would’ve had him exploding in a rage. For Chrissy, he presses his face to her shoulder and swallows down tears at her disappointment in him. Why she ever expects Billy to be better than is, he’ll never know.
He never thought there would be another person who believed there was any good in him. Having one person who thought he was worth a damn was unbelievable enough. Of course, that too only lasted so long…
No, I don’t want to think about that.
Chrissy draws back, running her hands down his forearms in a soothing motion. “We could go down and talk to them,” she suggests with a smile that shows her dimples. She laces their fingers together and gives him an adorable, suggestive little bounce with her eyebrows. “Be their friends?”
Chrissy has this very strange view of Billy, in his own opinion: she seems to think that because he’s nice to her and she likes him, that obviously if he’s nice to everyone else, they would like him, too. He’s tried to explain that people don’t work like that and that she’s just too nice of a person in general. People are assholes, especially other guys, and as the new kid he could either be the biggest bitch in the room or he could be the biggest asshole and rule them all. With those dogshit options, Billy would always choose to be king. But she’s incredibly stubborn for such a cute little thing and persists in this thinking that he can somehow be a sweet, nice guy.
Actually, now that he thinks of it, maybe he should ask Chrissy if she’s been hanging out with Munson lately, because that sort of thing has to mean she’s on the good shit and real friends share, Chris.
He grimaces, and she pouts, apparently able to read his thoughts just from his expression. With more of a cajoling tone, because she is actually a tiny devil, Chrissy says “Wouldn’t you like it? To be his friend? He might at least smile at you, that way.” A bit wistfully, she adds “He was always really nice to me and the other underclassman, you know. Ronny Donovan tried to pull my pants down in gym class once and he cursed him out and threw a basketball at him. It hit him right in…well, right there.”
From her blush, it’s clear what Chrissy means by ‘right there’. How she got all the way to age seventeen and can’t bring herself to say ‘dick’ out loud is beyond him. “Jesus Christ,” Billy groans. “Now I gotta kick Donovan’s ass, too.”
She laughs at him, like she thinks Billy’s joking or something.
***
“Stay here,” Steve tells Robin, ‘here’ being where she can still touch the bottom of the water. She’s made great progress in her ability to swim - she’s a fast learner, after all - but Steve’s own mother hen instincts freak out at the idea of her in deep water when he can’t actually watch her. He winks. “I’ll get our refreshments.”
He swims back toward the deepest part of the water, where there was still a little blue rubber duckie bobbing up and down. Steve dives, letting his fingers find the long wire of fishing line attached to the duckie and follows it all the way down to the very bottom of this man-made lake, pulling up the bottle of spiced rum attached to the other end and buried there before pushing off for the surface again.
Robbie had been skeptical of this plan to keep it cold without ice, but Steve knew what the fuck he was talking about when it came to parties and all things party adjacent. She brightens as she sees Steve break the surface, making grabby-hands at the bottle as he swims close enough to approach the part of the larger drop-off where it was still possible to stand on the bottom.
Grinning, Steve unscrews the cap and takes a healthy swig, letting the smooth, tingling burn of the rum coat his stomach before offering it to Robin who takes a good sized gulp of her own. “Oof,” she gasps, breathing out the heat of spice and liquor. “Wow.”
“Too much?”
“No, it’s actually really good,” she says, impressed. They get settled in a shallower part of the quarry and Steve lets Robbie wrap her legs around his waist instead of swimming under her own power.
They’re technically about the same height, so she could still reach the bottom here but they were in deep enough water that she would have to put in some effort, and Robbie is a fast learner but there’s no substitution for building up endurance in any physical activity, so he doesn’t really mind helping her cheat a bit - especially once they’ve been drinking for a while and letting Robbie swim by herself could be actively dangerous. Anyway, they're in the water, so it's not like she really weighs anything.
Steve does shift her slightly, so that she’s resting on his hip rather than directly in his lap, though. His dick has enough strange ideas of its own without her help, thanks.
“It’s way too smooth,” he agrees with a laugh. “I’ve gotten really fucked up on things like that, so take it slow. Becky McConnell?”
“God, yeah. I love her hands,” she gushes. “She always has the perfect manicure, it’s great. Debra Lennox?”
“Yes! Don’t you love that-that like glitter skirt she wears with the tights?” Steve sighs. “Amazing. She has such fantastic legs. Tanya Greene?”
“Hm,” she says, taking another swallow and tapping her fingernails on his shoulder while she considers this. “...no.”
“No?!” Steve squawks, outraged. “Her tits are perfect! And her hair-!”
“Is red,” Robin agrees. “That’s why - it freaks me out, dude.”
Confused Steve asks “Do you have a preference for the…erm…the carpet and the drapes?"
Robin laughs at his expression. "It's not that," she says, once she can control her snorting and giggling. "It's the eyelashes."
"Eyelashes," he repeats, wondering if he's somehow gotten a third concussion in the past year.
She groans. "I know! It's so stupid but - y'know how a real blonde or a natural redhead has like…really pale eyelashes? So it almost looks like they don't have any at all?" He nods, taking the bottle from her for a quick swig. "...yeah, that freaks me out. Can't deal with it."
Steve cackles. "You are so weird."
She hums again around another drink, pulling the bottle away from her mouth to whisper "Your boyfriend's here."
Speaking of strange ideas his dick already has. Steve glances in the direction of her gaze and groans, thumping his forehead against her shoulder. "Why did I tell you that?"
"Who else would you tell?" Robin points out.
"Chrissy Cunningham," he says thoughtfully.
Her brows bounce upwards. "You'd tell his girlfriend you wouldn't be opposed to sucking her man's dick?"
"Keep your voice down," he hisses, swatting uselessly at her leg. "No, Robbie - the game. Would you fuck Chrissy?"
She pouts. "You took my turn, asshole! …yeah." Guiltily, she smiles and adds "It's the cheerleader outfit, isn't it?"
"It doesn't hurt," he says with a grin, then quirks one brow, a little smirk still pulling his mouth up on one side. "...and I'm pretty sure she was just staring at your ass."
"She was not!" she complains, though Robin turns to look where Steve was looking in a reverse of their earlier conversation.
Subtly, Steve shifts his position so that she won't have to turn her head so far - except that Robin immediately jerks her face back to his, looking a bit frightened. "Rob?"
Her arms curl around his shoulders, as though Steve is a very large teddy bear she can comfort herself with, and Robin swallows. He grows more concerned when, now pressed closely together like this back to front, he can feel her heart and it's racing. "I think Billy just saw me checking her out," she admits in a whisper, still clutching the back of his neck with both hands. "He looks pissed. Steve…"
Quickly, Steve looks over her shoulder and confirms: Billy and Chrissy are indeed coming this way and he seems to look even more threatening than usual.
Steve’s hands tighten their grip on her legs. He's heard shit- things. About what can happen - what people do to queers they find in their neighborhoods. Men. Women. Boys. Girls.
"I won't let him, Robbie," he promises quietly. "I don't care how good his ass looks in lifeguard shorts."
"Let him what?" she demands, and he can feel how tense her muscles are. He suppresses a wince at the feel of her nails, bitten down though they are, gouging his biceps.
"Doesn't matter, I won't let him. I don't think he'll do anything in front of Chrissy, though." Steve runs a hand down her back, tries to soothe her as best as he can. They can't play I'd Fuck Her anymore with them so close now. Steve hopes to tease her into getting more comfortable, so circles back to an earlier argument. "...I still think it’s Kashmir."
***
They're whispering to each other, all cuddled up against each other and again, Billy feels his stomach rebelling. Sounding like a whiny toddler even to himself, he asks "Do we have to?" He scowls. "She's fucking… touching him. Everywhere. All the time."
"You're jealous," she says lightly.
"Yes," he bites out, teeth clenched.
“Hey, I actually recognize her!” she tells him.
“Yeah?” Even though Billy is pretty sure that she’s an upcoming senior like him and Chrissy, but unlike the rest of his classmates, he hasn’t known 99% of the people in this school for a decade or more and he likes his place at the top of the food chain, so he doesn’t really bother to learn outside of the higher social circles.
“She’s Rae-Rebecca? No! Robin!” Chrissy says, her expression slowly brightening. “Robin Buckley! She’s in the school band. I’ve seen her in the gym sometimes at games.” She sighs a little, head tilting as she gazes at Robin in her little blue and green bikini. “She’s cute.”
Billy darts a sideways glance at her face. He’s…uh, not completely sure that Chrissy is actually straight, but since she herself does not seem aware of that, he decides to be uncharacteristically tactful and keeps his fucking mouth shut.
"Well, maybe you can…I don't know…desensitize yourself?" Chrissy suggests. She carefully tightens up her ponytail as they walk into the water holding hands. If they are going to approach them as a couple trying to make friends with another couple, they will need to maintain even more than the usual level of closeness - especially if Billy can’t manage his jealousy, though she’s too nice to say that out loud.
He grunts, noting that Steve has now noticed them. With great feeling, he says "God, I hope not."
He doesn’t really mind Chrissy laughing at his expense, but he makes a good show of it with a fierce scowl - which of course, only makes her laugh more.
The couple ahead of them looks over their shoulders as he and Chrissy approach, whispering to each other for a moment but get louder and louder as they get closer, until they’re only a few yards away from them as the girl shouts “No! You take that back, you cretin!” right in Steve’s face. "It's Barracuda, it's so obviously Barracuda!"
The bottle of rum drifting away in the water as they shout at each other about…music?
“I'm right, just admit that I’m right once and for all!" he counters. "You know it's Kashmir!"
Robin starts tickling him ruthlessly, making Steve howl, chanting "Barracuda, Barracuda!"
And then Steve gives a shout as he suddenly bursts from the water, standing at his full height, looking so absolutely fucking magnificent with water cascading down his chest and flanks that Billy shrinks down into the quarry to hide the chub he’s sporting.
Steve grabs Robin, lifting her over his fucking head - now is not a good time to start leaking in your short, Hargrove - and while she screams “No, Steve, no!”, drops her right into the water.
Billy whistles. “You’ll be in the dog house for that one, Harrington.”
He looks genuinely puzzled by that assessment. “Huh? What d’you mean?”
Christ, this guy used to be king of the ladykillers? Does he know anything about women?
But Robin comes up laughing, swatting a huge wave of water at him and she shakes her hair from her eyes. “Asshole,” she cackles. “Being wrong doesn’t mean you get to be an asshole!”
“Why is he wrong?” Chrissy asks curiously.
“I’m not,” Steve says smugly, ignoring Robin’s scowl.
"Okay, so what are you so right about?" Billy questions, brow raised and cocky like an asshole. Chrissy smothers a giggle. His posturing and strutting, when you can see through it the way she can, is absolutely adorable.
"Kashmir obviously has the sexiest opening riff in music history," Steve says, with the complete seriousness of someone who both believes this and is intensely passionate about that belief.
Robin, just as passionate and just as certain with her righteousness, growls “It’s BARRACUDA.”
Oh, these two really are a pair of absolute fucking GEEKS.
“You’re…both wrong,” Billy says slowly, tentatively. He doesn’t quite know how to do this whole ‘friendship’ thing with Steve - the other boy never reacts the way he’s expecting and it always leaves Billy with an extra layer of tension to their interactions even beyond the giant boner he sports for him. “Harrington is slightly less wrong, but still wrong.”
Robin, to his further surprise, looks absolutely delighted, standing behind Steve and shaking his shoulders slightly. “Ooooh, a challenger,” she murmurs in that husky, teasing little purr of a voice she has and Jesus fucking Christ, can this girl stop climbing all over him like a goddamn jungle gym? “That’s bold, Mister Hargrove. Let’s hear your defense.”
Why is he getting the feeling that Buckley is teasing him every bit as much as she’s teasing her boyfriend? Apparently neither of them are going to respond to anything the way he expects. “Harrington has the right band, but the wrong song,” he finally says, after a narrow-eyed assessment at the pair of them. “Led Zeppelin is definitely on the money - sexiest of all time, hands down - but you’re really looking for Whole Lotta Love.”
Their expressions both suggest that they are considering this argument with the seriousness of a Harvard Law student studying the Constitution and actually start having a full-on debate with each other like the real fucking nerds they are-
“You are so cute with each other!” Chrissy coos at them, looking enarmored with the lovey-dovey attitude. “Did you guys just start dating?”
Steve and Robin glance at each other, hold eye contact for just a few brief seconds. And then both immediately start laughing. Brushing tears from her eyes, Robin says “Oh, no, no - we aren’t dating.”
Steve smirks and Billy tries really, really hard not to find that sexy. “Yeah, that wouldn’t work out.”
Like a flash of lightning has struck him, Billy suddenly realizes that he actually recognizes this Buckley girl - she looks different right now with her hair pinned up and wearing nothing but that striped bikini, but yeah. Yeah, he’s seen her before. This is the girl who works with Steve at the mall.
Billy’s eyes dart over to her, just because he wants to be sure, completely sure.
Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit.
This is the girl with tits on her shoes.
Billy would’ve put every penny on the two of them batting for opposite teams after meeting her and it’s like a whole cascade of thoughts follow that one single realization, like: Steve knows.
Steve knows about Robin.
He’s seen him with Max and that other girl - Eleanor? Elizabeth? - at the Hawkins Pool. Horsing around. Letting them and the boys use him like a fucking jungle gym. Just like Robin.
The two younger girls flirt with him (Max for sure has a little childhood crush on him) and they make eyes at him - nothing Billy finds too concerning, all things considered. They’re probably too young to even quite understand that they’re doing it and also like… yeah, I get it. Same.
But Steve does not react to them doing this, which is the main reason Billy has elected to ignore it and leave the whole situation alone even when it’s happening right in front of him. They’re just kids figuring shit out and there’s no harm in them making eyes at him as long as they don’t try anything else with him and Steve acts like a responsible fucking adult about it. And Billy has to admit that he does.
He doesn't flirt, but he does tease, exactly the same as he teases Henderson. Steve lets them climb on him and jump on his back and shit, but Steve’s hands always stay at their arms or their rib cages or the outside of their legs, never anywhere close to the tits, not anywhere near the ass or the inner thigh/crotch area. They’re underage girls and Billy has silently acknowledged that he keeps the ‘no touching’ zone to very appropriate levels.
But Robin is given the exact same consideration, despite being only a year younger than him and, he knows, very attractive for a girl. Now that he’s seen it, Billy realizes that he treats them the same way he treats Robin. Which means that he already knows.
Steve is fully aware of who Robin is and treats her accordingly - like a playmate, rather than his next potential partner.
Fuck, what is this feeling? Billy thinks it might be...hope.

How would they react if you ask them to dance?
Freddy :
"Heck yeah !"
Freddy is one of the only slasher that is musically cultured. He can spot good hard rock from a mile away. He is a rock and roll fan to the end. Just, put on any hard rock song and you will see his eyes literally sparkle in delight. He would dance with you until the end of the night. Literally.
" Come on darling, let me turn your world upside down !"
He would pretend having a guitar in his hands and laugh while shaking his head up and down with the rhythm. In rare moments, he would actually forget where he is and start singing with the lyrics.
"~She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I stare too long, I'd probably break down and cry..."
Surprisingly, Freddy has a great voice and, when given the opportunity, will make the slashers enjoy a live concert of his. In those moments, not even Pennywise dares make fun of Freddy. Freddy understands your love for old music, and god, does he got the moves ! You swear that when he is dancing, you forget all about who he is and who you are. If you weren't dancing before, you certainly are now. 😂
Surprisingly enough, Arthur would not join right away. He would first see you dance and enjoy himself watching you having fun with the other slashers. But once he is sure that nobody will judge him ? He will join and dance to his heart content. Many people have ways to express themselves, hobbies that help them de-stress..But unfortunately for the slashers, that hobby was mostly killing people. You try to make them see that they can do the same in many different ways. Joker, however, is a very special case, because he actually tried to escape with dance and jokes..People destroyed his dreams. Now, you have to help him get back his hope and the dreams he lost. The first step to do that ? Make him remember what he loved, before becoming the Joker.
" Why do you want to make me believe in something that is gone ?"
" Because I believe in you, Arthur."
He waited for someone to actually believe in him for so long that he can't help but cry at your words. He would then take you for a dance and make you laugh for the rest of the night. He doesn't mind you old-fashioned taste, as he prefers old songs as well, especially the catchy ones.
" Dance ?! Dancing ! Yesss !"
Penny screams while throwing his hands in the air. He loves dancing. It was the only thing he had when he was alone and penniless. He was dancing in the street in his old clown costume, hoping for some generous souls to find him entertaining. However, when he became Penny, his dance became the last thread of his old life he hanged on to. It may have been a way to lure his victims in as well, but it was also much more for Penny. He loves dancing. He is also very good at it, being a very flexible person with a great creativity. His dance may look childish at first, but it's only because he never got the proper training. You asked the hospital to give him some lessons, but unfortunately, they didn't want the dance teacher to become dinner. This is how you had gotten the idea of Friday's dancing nights. It allows the bond between the slashers to strengthen and for Penny to learn more about what he loves.
" Penny dances ! Penny is so happy !"
Well, just make sure he has the dance floor to himself, as you wouldn't want any of the slashers to receive a slap or a kick on accident..He doesn't really care about the music, as long as he can dance on it.
Dance ? What is dance ? When he sees you and the other slashers dance, it makes him think of those teenagers at Crystal lake. He is not too fond of dancing. He will however stare at you and sometimes, even nod his head up and down with the music if he likes it. But, if you try to make him dance with the others ? He will freeze. He is not used to dancing and never cared enough to learn. For a long time, it had only been his mother and him, therefore he hasn't had the chance to make friends or open up enough to dance at parties. He likes watching though. Most of the time, he will stay with Five or Michael, the only ones to understand his predicament. Plus, he doesn't know or understand most of the songs you're playing. He tried to ask you what they meant, but most of the words you used to answer him only made him more confused. Love ? Hope ? Loss ? He doesn't understand them. However, he does understand grief and sorrow. Those are feeling he can relate with as he felt them when he lost his father. When a sad song comes in, he will pay more attention and feel a tug in his chest.
" My boy. You have to live your life as you intended. Don't let anyone tell you what you should or shouldn't feel. One day, the ones who bullied you and called you names will see how amazing you truly are."
The words of his father echo in his head as he listens to the music. He has nearly forgotten about his face, but his voice is still with him, advising him wherever he goes. He just never took the time to listen to him until now. He always thought that his mother was everything he needed, that she was the only one who loved him, but maybe was he wrong after all ? Maybe other people could accept him ?
*internal panic*
He knows how to dance, that's not the problem. It's just that it's been so long that he's afraid he's gotten a bit rusty. This is why you will most likely find him hidden in a corner, watching over you all. At this point, he is more likely to play the role of the quiet big brother who is making sure none of his siblings accidently hurt themselves or have too much to drink. However, if you really insist, he will try to enter the game and make a few tentative steps on the dance floor. But, dont expect too much of him. He is embarrassed enough as it is. However, he will help in the kitchen if you need to bake something of prepare some snacks for the slashers. Another thing to know about Michael, is that unlike Jason that doesn't mind raising his mask a little to eat or drink, Michael will prefer to wait until everybody is gone or asleep before letting himself do the same. He is very keen on his mask and doesn't want anyone to see him without it. So, maybe prepare a little space away from prying eyes for him to have intimacy ? As for the music, he doesn't mind. Everything is fine with him.
Unlike Penny, Pennywise is not that much of a dancer. Penny is a dancing clown, Pennywise is a grouchy clown. He would rather be sarcastic all evening than partaking in the fun. However, something that he is good at is inflating balloons. He will help organize the party and will try to entertain Penny as much as he can. Pennywise may not be a dancing clown, but he cares about Penny. Penny is the closest to family he has left, and even though he would never admit it, he would do anything for him. He is protective of him and if it meant making Penny happy ? He wouldn't mind playing the clown for a night.
" Stop looking at me like that. I'm not gonna dance. You can't make me. Invite Penny instead. He's far more excited to make a fool of himself than me.."
He would reply when you invite him to dance. He doesn't care about the songs, as long as they don't have any curses in them. He loves cursing, but he doesn't want Penny to follow his example. He wants him to keep the little innocence he has left.
(couldn't find a gif with Five, so imagine it's Five in the second gif.)
He will not dance. Not even if you beg him. He will be happy if you leave him alone with the drinks. He will mostly stay with Michael and drown his bad mood in alcool and most likely complain.
"Goddammit. Can't we have decent whiskey in here ?!"
However, if you really insist and he has enough alcool in his system ? He may follow you and make some moves on the dance floor. Maybe.
" I swear you all suck. It seems I'll have to step up to level the game. It's not because I'm having fun or I like any of you, it's just because you bunch of idiots can't differentiate good dancing and monkey dancing."
Five got many classes on how to be the perfect spy while being trained. Let's say that there were some more enjoyable classes than others. He knows how to dance as a result and will steal the dancefloor when given the chance.

Cheryl//maple syrup
Request: Can you do the secret and sins when Veronica comments on the Cheryl’s twincest and the reader defends Cheryl even though the reader kinda diss likes Cheryl.
hey! how is everyone? i hope you’re all well and good! i may have slightly cheated a bit and copy and pasted a previously written out bit from another request where they’re playing secrets and sins. but that’s only because i didn’t see the point in writing the same dialogue again. anywayyyy enjoy!
It seems that whenever Cheryl Blossom arrives at a party, the party atmosphere disappears. Maybe it’s her grating personality or overbearing need to be liked, whatever it is, within ten minutes of her and Chuck gate crashing Jughead’s unwanted birthday party, there’s already tension.
Which is not made any better by the suggestion of secrets & sins. Your friends are gathered in a circle in the living room, while you sit off to the side. You want to eavesdrop, but you don’t want to reveal your deepest, darkest secrets, not to your best friends and definitely not to Cheryl.
It’s clear everyone that’s been roped into this stupid game doesn’t want to be there. Betty shifts in her seat uncomfortably and stares at you with pleading eyes. You shoot her an unsure smile back before taking a sip of your drink and she drops your gaze, glancing at Archie before staring down at the floor.
Cheryl is the only one that looks like she’s enjoying herself, but you’re not surprised. Chaos and the chance to get dirt on everyone so she can control them even more than she already does is what Cheryl lives for.
You glare at the red-head, who’s smiling brightly as she looks around at her victims and when her eyes land on you, her eyes narrow and the smile is replaced by a smirk.
“What’s wrong Y/n? Did nobody pick you to be on their team?” She asks, her bright red lips forming a perfect pout and you can’t help but stare at them for a few seconds longer than you should. You feel your face heat up and look away, blaming the alcohol for the affects you’re feeling and refusing to believe that you’ve just thought of Cheryl Blossom as attractive.
A shiver runs up your spine at the thought and you lips pull into a pout as you stare down at the now empty cup in your hands. You scratch at the plastic and listen to the mumbles and whispers of the teenagers stood and sat around you.
Whoever isn’t partaking in Secrets and Sins, have gathered around to watch and judge, and you can’t help but lean in a little closer, they may be some of your closest friends, but you can’t help wanting to know what they’ve been hiding from one another...you’re only human and at least you’re not as bad as Cheryl.
Cheryl lives of rumours. Like Gretchen Wieners with smaller and redder hair.
“What the hell is Secrets and Sins?” Jughead asks, all eyes on Cheryl as she moves around in a circle, eyeing everyone suspiciously as she starts to explain the rules.
“Its a variation on Truth or Dare…in which we own our truths by telling it like it is. I’ll start the game with…Veronica Lodge.” She smirks and you roll your eyes at her.
“Naturally.” Veronica sighs and you pat her shoulder.
“Let’s begin with the day you and your mob wife of a mother came to town for a so-called fresh start.” She says, her eyes filled with accusations and anger before she’s even gotten to her question.
You really don’t know why so many people like her, well you do, it’s because she’s rich and she bullies people into being her friend because she’s unable to make them any other way.
She’s snobby, spoilt and just plain mean, but that doesn’t stop you from sometimes staring at her for longer than you want to and definitely should.
“Tell us Veronica, what’s so fresh about defiling Archie Andrews in a closet?”
“That was your doing.” She replies confused, her arms crossed defensively against her chest.
“Moving on to dear Daddy Lodge…” She interrupts, getting more and more angry by the second. “Isn’t it true that your father, from prison, illegally purchased the drive-in land? Which makes me wonder, what else is he doing behind bars?” She continues and you glance to your side at Joaquin, who shares a very suspicious look with FP
“Well, I can’t speak for my father…but I can think of someone with a very dirty secret. Specifically, Cheryl killing her very own brother.” The tension in the room shifts and your eyes widen.
As much as you dislike Cheryl, you know how close her and Jason were and you knew how much it hurt and how she’s still hurting now because of his death. You’ve seen her crying underneath the bleachers after school, you see how her eyes are a little more dull than they used to be. They don’t sparkle as much when she talks and when she’s not spreading hate, she’s just not saying anything at all.
She smiles less when with her friends, and sometimes you think the only reason she’s horrible to people is so she can feel something. But that doesn’t excuse it and so you shake your head and earn a few confused looks as you try to stop yourself from defending Cheryl Majorie Blossom.
“Everyone knows how much I loved my brother.” Cheryl defends herself.
“Exactly.” Veronica replies. “But did you love him, maybe in ways that a sister shouldn’t love a brother?” She continues and you watch as Cheryl becomes more and more upset. “And as you got older, Jason started to think it was strange, unnatural. So he chose Polly over you. So you shot him between the eyes with one of your father’s many hunting rifles.”
Her shoulders slump a little and her bottom lip quivers as she looks around the room helplessly. The confident look she usually has, has slipped off like a mask, revealing a very sad girl underneath and suddenly you find yourself standing up.
“That’s enough Veronica.” You say, surprising everyone, including Cheryl. “Just leave her alone, it’s not worth it.” You add quietly and slowly sit back down again.
Veronica hold her hands up in defence and you force a smile before going back to picking at the plastic of your cup.
“I don’t need you to defend me.” Cheryl seethes, her eyes full of hatred as she looks at you, and for some reason it stings. You’re used to her not liking you, but her hating you, hurts you for some unknown reason and you have to take a few deep breaths in order to stop the ache in your chest.
“This game is sick.” Dilton adds and Cheryl uses the distraction to wipe away the tears on her cheek. “I wanna go next.” He adds making everyone look at him.
“Thats the spirit, Doiley. What secrets do you have to reveal to us?” Chuck grins.
“I saw Ms. Grundy’s car by Sweetwater River the day Jason went missing.” He says and everyone gasps. People mumble and whisper around you and Cheryl stares straight at Dilton, her eyes narrow. “I told Betty and Jughead, and then Ms. Grundy quit her job and left Riverdale, like, two days later. And let’s not forget that Archie was also at Sweetwater River that morning.”
“Oh, my God.” Cheryl whips her head round to look at Archie. “Colour me shocked. Archie Andrews, is that why you became a mediocre musician overnight? Because you and Ms. Four-Eyes were pulling a Mary Kay Letourneau?”
“Don’t say anything. Don’t get in the gutter with them.” Veronica mutters while glaring at Cheryl.
“Wait, what? Andrews was banging a teacher?” Chuck asks, his tone a mix of surprise and impressed and you roll your eyes at him. “I wish I would’ve known. I would have added you and Ms. Grundy to the book of conquests.”
“Classy, Chuck, as always.”
“Wait a second.” Cheryl interrupts. “That also explains why Archie can’t seem to keep a girlfriend to save his life. He’s got serious mommy issues. Anything to say for yourself Arch? Were you a victim or a perpetrator?”
“Dilton Doiley plays with guns.” Betty tries to change the subject but she’s immediately shut down.
“Big whoop, Betty. So Doiley’s a psychopath. Everyone knows that.”
“Well, I guess it’s my turn now. Boy, do I have a twisted secret to reveal, starring Betty Cooper.”
“Leave her the hell alone, Chuck.” Archie threatens.
“Shut up, Andrews.” He replies. “Look, you may get a free peep show every night, but you do not know her. Hell, Betty doesn’t even know herself. Everybody knows why I got suspended, but what you don’t know...she dressed up like a hooker, in a God-awful black wig, drugged me, handcuffed me in the Jacuzzi, and well, I almost drowned until she got me to say what she wanted to hear. And then she really lost it. She actually thought she was Polly. But, hey, you knew all about this right, Jughead?” He asks. For a second, the question hangs in the air, everyone trying to figure out what to say next and how to process what they’ve just been told.
But then Jughead leaps forward at punches Chuck in face causing all hell to break loose. Everyone stands and FP shoves races forward to grab Chuck and throw him outside.
While everyone else follows them outside, eagerly awaiting a fight, you stay back and watch as Cheryl disappears upstairs, quietly sniffling as she goes. You look at the front door and then at the stairs and sigh, knowing that this is not gonna end well. She’s gonna insult you and tell you to leave her alone, but at least you can say you tried to help and then you won’t feel bad.
So you glance at the door one more time and pray that at least one person is filming whatever is happening out there, before wandering up the stairs in search for Cheryl.
The slight scent of maple syrup and the sound of faint cries coming from the bathroom lets you know where she’s hiding and you quietly creep along the slightly creaky floorboards, trying to remember which ones to avoid after years of practice when sneaking into Archie’s room in order to break him out.
You stop outside of the bathroom, light coming out of the cracks of the door and your hand hovers over the handle.
“Whoever is out there, go away.” She sniffles and you roll your eyes.
Turning on your heel, you start to walk away, but then you hear her sob and it makes you freeze.
You let out a quiet groan and curse the side of you that can’t leave people that are crying alone, before making your way back to the bathroom and slowly opening the door.
The first thing you see as you duck your hear around the door is Cheryl sat on the side of the bath. Her hands gripping the edges so hard that her knuckles have turned white. He hair has fallen in front of her face and you watch as she her shoulder shake and tears drip onto the bath mat.
“Cheryl?” You whisper and she looks up, her eyes wide as she quickly scrambles to wipe away the tears that have ruined her makeup. “Are you okay?” You ask and walk into the room. You close the door behind you and lean against it and her expression hardens.
“I’m having the best time.” She deadpans and you resist the urge to roll your eyes. God is she stubborn.
“Look, I know we’re not exactly best friends. Most of the time, I don’t really like to be around you-”
“Is this supposed to be making me feel better?” She asks and you shrug.
“But you know that if you need someone to talk to that won’t judge you or really know anything about you, you can. I’ll just sit and listen and you can cry or rant or I dunno. Just, know you’re not alone. You may not get along with everyone in this town, but we will all be here for you if you need us, all you have to do is ask.” You say honestly but anxiously while playing with your fingers.
She looks at you surprised, her lips part as if she’s going to say something and you’re sure she’s going to tell you to shut up and leave her alone, but instead she says thank you and you feel yourself relax a little.
“It’s okay.” You nod. “And for the record, what Veronica said was out of line. Everyone knows how much Jason meant to you and for her to say that is just wrong. We all know you loved your brother...a normal amount.” You add the last bit quietly and she stares at you for a few seconds before a smile twitches at her lips. “Would you like me to leave you alone now?” You ask and she shakes her head. You look around the small bathroom, trying to figure out the best place to sit and she moves along a little so you can sit beside her. “Would you like me to sit with you until you feel better?” You ask and she nods slowly, her lip wobbling again.
You sit beside her, place a gentle hand over hers and the two of you fall into a slightly awkward but not as bad as you thought it would be, silence.
After ten minutes, Cheryl stands and makes her way over to the mirror. She swipes her fingers under her eyes to try and get rid of her ruined mascara before messing with her hair to try and get it back to looking like normal.
“Do I look okay?” She turns to you and stands with her arms by her side. Your breath hitches when you look at her and you wonder how she looks so pretty even in the most unflattering light that is Archie Andrews’ bathroom.
You stand in front of her and slowly tuck a piece of hair behind her ear and you watch as she takes a shaky breath.
“Can I?” You ask, your fingers centimetres away from her cheek and she nods slowly, her eyes locked with yours and you feel yourself growing warm from the intensity. “There.” You smile once you’ve wiped a bit of mascara away from her cheek.
She grabs her bag and pulls her lipstick from it, but when she goes to apply it, her hands shake and you take it from her gently.
Your lips darts out between your tongue as you concentrate on keeping the lipstick in the lines, and you can feel her warm breath on your cheek.
“There!” You smile proudly once your finished, but she grabs your arm before you can pull away properly as her lips connect with yours in an almost frantic kiss.
You gasp a little and then relax and kiss back just as frantically, but she pulls away after a few seconds and the two of you stare at each other wide-eyed and breathless.
“Your lipstick’s ruined.” You whisper and her lips curl into a smile.
“Worth it.” She replies before pulling you close to her and kissing you again.

hey!! i loved your hoo playlist! can you explain more or less where which book begins and ends? or just your thought process behind picking the songs?
omg hi!! this is going to be really long I’m so sorry... I vaguely broke them up by book and sorta character/event/theme, it’s not super strict or anything but that was the logic!
I kinda imagine it playing out like a movie or tv series.. and so some of these kinda play over a scene or transition to the credits in my head? some more than others! otherwise it’s like punny titles or just songs that remind of plot points!
Lost Hero
- Goodbye Stranger - for Jason, since he has no idea what’s going on lol
- Teenage Dream - for the three of them, but mostly Piper!
You think I'm pretty without any makeup on You think I'm funny when I tell the punch line wrong
- Parachute - kinda Jason and Piper, I think as she realizes their relationship isn’t quite what it seems? (and just playing with his flying lol!)
- Metal Guru - Leo!
- Pretty Girl - Piper, I was imagining this when she clashes with Drew/learns about the Aphrodite cabin
And I could be a pretty girl Shut up when you want me to And I could be a pretty girl Won't ever make you blue And I could be a pretty girl I'll lose myself in you
- The Sky’s The Limit - when the three of them take off on Festus
- Snowqueen Of Texas - this was for Khione lol
I'm on my knees, your majesty; Snowqueen, save a cold kiss for me I'm on my knees your majesty
- Sweet Talkin’ Woman - this is book-wide but it’s for Piper’s charmspeak!
- Are You Gonna Be My Girl - is sorta general but I was imagining it when Jason and Piper kinda decide to be together/give it another go
- It’s Not Unusual - I think this was sorta the entire book/wider series but I just think it’s cute and fun and a Guardians of the Galaxy type end credits song? And just them accepting their very bizarre situation
Son of Neptune + Mark of Athena
I put these together because there wasn’t really a set bookend in my head!
- Hello Stranger - finally reuniting with Percy! (and I wanted the Percy and Jason songs to mirror each other)
Hello stranger (Ooh) It seems so good to see you back again How long has it been? (Ooh it seems like a mighty long time)
- Diamonds - Hazel
- Don’t Go Breaking My Heart - Frank trusting Hazel with the wood, also Percy + Annabeth, everyone really
Don't go breaking my heart You take the weight off of me Oh, honey when you knock on my door Ooh, I gave you my key
- Beautiful Soul - I literally don’t know why I added this I just wanted an excuse to add a Jesse McCartney song (which feels so tonally correct to me?) but also I think it’s Frank liking Hazel in spite of her big secret and Percy loving Annabeth
- Pocketful of Rainbows - encountering Iris!
I don't worry Whenever skies are gray above Got a pocketful of rainbows Got a heart full of love
- Am I The Same Girl - Annabeth’s POV upon reunion!
Why don´t you stop And look me over Am I the same girl you used to know?
Why don´t you stop And think it over Am I the same girl who knew your soul?
- Bizarre Love Triangle - Frank, Hazel, and Leo
- Treasure - Hazel again + the literal treasure?
Pretty girl, pretty girl, pretty girl you should be smiling (you should be smiling) A girl like you should never look so blue (blue) You're everything I see in my dreams I wouldn't say that to you if it wasn't true
- The Sweet Escape - off on the Argo II
- Okay Okay - to Italy! and I just think Italian disco is so fun
- On An Evening in Roma - walking around Rome, seeing all its history
Though there's grinning and mandolining in sunny Italy The beginning has just begun when the sun goes down So please meet me in the plaza near your casa I am only one and that is one too few On an evening in Roma Don't know what the country's coming to But in Rome do as the Romans do Will you on an evening in Roma
- Stuck on the puzzle - Annabeth + the Mark of Athena
- Coca Cola - I was imagining the pirates+sacrifice to Dionysus/ his appearance
- Edge of Seventeen - I think Annabeth remarks to herself something like am I really going to die at 17? so this is for her and all the kids just on the cusp of being 17
And the days go by, like a strand in the wind In the web that is my own, I begin again Said to my friend, baby (everything stopped) Nothin' else mattered
- Landslide - when everything goes wrong and they start falling to Tartarus
Oh, mirror in the sky What is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Well, I've been afraid of changin' 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Even children get older And I'm getting older too
House of Hades + Blood of Olympus
these are more thematic I think? but a few moments in particular
- Head Over Heels - falling down...
I made a fire, and watching it burn Thought of your future With one foot in the past, now just how long will it last?
Something happens and I'm head over heels I never find out until I'm head over heels Something happens and I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't, don't, don't throw it away
- You and Me - Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus
If the stars don't shine If the moon won't rise If I never see the setting sun again You won't hear me cry as I testify Please believe me boy you know I would I lie As long as there is you and me
- Don’t Worry Baby - Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus, on the shore of the river
Well it's been building up inside of me For oh I don't know how long I don't know why But I keep thinking Something's bound to go wrong
But she looks in my eyes And makes me realize And she says "don't worry, baby"
- It’s Only A Paper Moon - the mist and Hazel starting to understand it
You smile, the bubble has a rainbow in it Say, it's only a paper moon Sailing over a cardboard sea But it wouldn't be make-believe If you believed in me
- Money, Money, Money - Hazel + Pluto
Money, money, money Must be funny In the rich man's world
- Magic - the whole story, but particularly with the presence of Hecate
- Summer Wind - Jason harnessing the winds!
The summer wind came blowin' in from across the sea It lingered there, to touch your hair and walk with me All summer long we sang a song and then we strolled that golden sand Two sweethearts and the summer wind
- Mala Femmina - the return of Khione
- Would You? - Leo and Calypso
Well, you know she took my hand And we walked away And I can't understand why she would stay Would you like to fall in love with me?
- Love is Like a Fire - Leo and also Frank
- Don’t Wanna Fight - Percy and Annabeth
Take from my hand Put in your hands The fruit of all my grief Lying down ain't easy When everyone is pleasing I can't get no relief Living ain't no fun The constant dedication Keeping the water and power on There ain't nobody left Why can't I catch my breath? I'm gonna work myself to death
- Love Really Hurts With You - Leo after leaving Calypso’s island
- What Makes the Sunset - Percy and Annabeth (and by extension Bob and Damasen)
What makes the sunset? What makes the moonrise? What makes the tide remember to hide and why does it soon rise? What makes a star fall? Where does it fall to? Why does its flight make us stop in the night and wish as we all do?
- Dedicated to the One I Love - everybody, but an ode to Bob and Damasen (their goodbye made me cry!)
While I'm far away from you my baby I know it's hard for you my baby Because it's hard for me my baby And the darkest hour is just before dawn
Each night before you go to bed my baby Whisper a little prayer for me my baby And tell all the stars above This is dedicated to the one I love
- Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want - Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus, I was thinking about this post-curses and them being so done with everything
Good times for a change See, the luck I've had Can make a good man Turn bad
So please, please, please Let me, let me, let me Let me get what I want This time
- Lonely Boy - Nico
- Fantasy - indulging all their visions... the mist, etc.
- Stupid Cupid - Nico and Cupid (of course)
Stupid Cupid you're a real mean guy (stupid Cupid) I'd like to clip your wings so you can't fly (stupid Cupid) I'm in love and it's a crying shame (stupid Cupid) And I know that you're the one to blame (stupid Cupid)
Hey hey, set me free Stupid Cupid stop picking on me
- Suzanne - still Nico, looking over at the couple (sorry... all the mopey songs)
- Dream A Little Dream of Me - dreams... also Percy’s wishes of the future
Stars shining bright above you Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you" Birds singing in the sycamore tree Dream a little dream of me
- Our Day Will Come - I think Annabeth says a line almost like this? somewhere at the end of HOH, I think when they’ve just gotten out of Tartarus and are all sitting together, like haven’t they had enough? won’t their day finally come?
Our day will come If we just wait a while No tears for us Think love and wear a smile Our dreams have magic because We'll always stay In love this way
- Call Me - all of them! also Nico and Reyna, just being there for each other
Tell me and I'll be around Now don't forget me 'cause if you let me I will always stay by you You've got to trust me, that's how it must be
- Nobody - Nico... oh buddy
Venus, planet of love Was destroyed by global warming Did its people want too much too? Did its people want too much?
And I don't want your pity I just want somebody near me Guess I'm a coward I just want to feel alright
- I’m a Believer - Jason and Piper
I thought love was only true in fairy tales Meant for someone else but not for me Love was out to get me That's the way it seemed Disappointment haunted all my dreams Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer Not a trace of doubt in my mind
- Summertime - Piper singing and it being the end of summer
- Happy Trails - more singing ( I want to include the songs actually mentioned!)
- The End of the World - the big battle!!
Why does the sun go on shining? Why does the sea rush to shore? Don't they know it's the end of the world? 'Cause you don't love me any more
- Too Late To Turn Back Now - departing with Festus (I think Leo almost says this too!)
- Here Comes The Sun - day comes, the Athena Parthenos is back
Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
- Walking On Sunshine - Will Solace
- Evil Woman - Gaea fight
Evil woman, how you done me wrong But now you're tryin' to wail a different song Ha, ha, funny, how you broke me up You made the wine, now you drink a cup I came runnin' every time you cried Thought I saw love smilin' in your eyes Ha, ha, very nice to know That you ain't got no place left to go
- Seven Wonders - the seven! also traveling the world... making it this far
If I live to see the seven wonders I'll make a path to the rainbow's end I'll never live to match the beauty again The rainbow's edge
- This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) - to me this is just after Annabeth and Percy’s kiss, shots of everyone back to camp, wides of people running around, new cabins under construction, the sun is shining, the camera pulls out
Loving you is some kind of wonderful Because you showed me just how much you care You've given me the thrill of a lifetime And made me believe you've got more thrills to spare, oh!
- Love Makes the World Go Round - like the end credits! last pov with Piper, love makes it all happen
Without love flowers wouldn't grow in the spring And without spring, yeah the birdies just couldnt sing Everybody needs love to watch the twinkling stars above It makes a boy and girl, Say they feel so fine, now
#SORRY I REALLY WASTED A LOT OF TIME ON IT#percy jackson#pjo#hoo#heroes of olympus#piper mclean#annabeth chase#jason grace#leo valdez#hazel levesque#frank zhang#Anonymous

I binge-watched the spn anime because of the brain rot
It’s bad except for the parts that are good, and it’s pretty to look at. Here’s a comprehensive list of pros and cons. Spoilers ahead!
Pros:
- more psychic kid backstories: Max (Nightmare), Lily (Darkness Calling), Jake (Loser)
- more psychic Sam
- more Azazel
- basically if you want more about the psychic/demon kids, watch the anime
- more young Winchesters
- the monsters, the superhuman abilities, the fight scenes, it all looks really cool animated. (But PSA it’s violent. It doesn’t shy away from blood and gore.)
- Sam and Jessica backstory
- more of the brothers being cute and funny together
- Missouri isn’t forgotten
- includes some Japanese legends/mythology
- the impala looks great in every scene. They did Baby good
- the “Supernatural” intro title
- the outro sketches of the boys hanging out with Baby
- Episodes adapted from the original show are different, but I like some of the changes? It’d be boring if it was an exact retelling and the visual medium wasn’t utilized. (I know I said spoilers before, but this is when they get detailed. If you wanna skip over, I’ll tell you where they STOP.)
Nightmare goes more into the abuse Max has suffered. Instead of locking Sam in a closet, Max sends Sam through the floor and covers the hole by breaking his bed in half, and it’s extremely sexy how Sam shoves the 2 halves apart with his mind. Later on Dean puts bandaids on Sam and they talk about demons loudly in front of a fast food intercom.
In My Time of Dying highlights the guilt Sam feels over Dean. In both the og and the anime John verbally blames Sam for not shooting Azazel, but where in the og Sam goes right on arguing, in the anime he reels back for a moment like he was slapped. Dean’s spirit touches Sam’s shoulder, and Sam knows immediately that it’s Dean. He doesn’t even question it. Instead of “Are you here?” it’s “I know you’re with me. I can feel it.” And I love that. Dean figures out right away he’s dealing with a reaper, and the reaper takes on the appearance of Mary to convince Dean to move on to the afterlife. Instead of a Ouija board, Sam uses a laptop to talk to Dean, and the first word Dean types is “Sammy!” Dean is so fond of his little brother and Sam is so baby.
Rising Son is an anime only episode, but it draws inspiration from John’s journal. Dean has a proper breakdown over his dad’s death and the possibility of having to kill Sam. Ms. Lyle, Sam’s favorite teacher who turns out to be possessed, is explored. John takes Dean hunting, and in the journal Dean hesitates to shoot a buck, and little Sam shoots it thinking it was endangering Dean. In the anime, Dean’s cornered by a moose and Sam makes it explode with his mind and it’s so !!! How little Sam’s first words are, “I’m glad you’re okay. It didn’t hurt you?” The boys are covered in blood and guts and Dean’s like 👁👄👁 “Why are you here? Did you do this?” And then Sam starts freaking out a little, the shock sets in. “I don’t know. I don’t know, honest.” And he’s staring at his hands, and I am a big fan of Sam showing superhuman signs as a kid. Like in the journal, Ms. Lyle tries to take Sam. She gives Sam the illusion of a choice to come with her or stay with Dean, and Sam chooses Dean. This ep is pretty much when John figures out Sam has demon blood. He kills another hunter that wants to kill Sam.
Crossroad is based on Crossroad Blues, and I love how the crossroads demon shows up. It’s hard to describe, but it’s so neat, like she’s walking underneath Dean in this mirror world, and then the mirror world takes over the regular world, so you really get this sense of otherworldly seclusion, existing outside of time.
What Is and Should Never Be shows Dean is a firefighter in his ‘Mary never died’ world, and Sam got to play soccer growing up like he wanted. The brothers hold each other after Dean is saved from the Djinn.
AHBL part 1. When Azazel shows Sam that he fed Sam his blood, Sam gags and slaps a hand over his mouth, and I like that reaction more than the live action. The psychic kids get to go more anime with their powers, and that’s a lot of fun. They don’t need weapons. Ava slams Sam into the brick side of a building and cuts him without touching him. Jake snaps Ava’s neck with one hand and then catches Sam in his arms. When Jake attacks Sam, there’s no gun or knife. He’s relying on his super strength, his fists. Sam throws his arms up to protect himself, and (accidentally?) pushes Jake back with his mind, and the collision creates a crater in the ground. Jake puts his fist through Sam’s chest to kill him. It’s brutal and it’s rad as fuck. These kids are terrifyingly powerful.
The Sam and Dean reunion before Sam is killed is not as emotional as the live action imo, but what the anime does intrigues me. Hurts in a different way. Because Sam is stunned after he uses telekinesis again, on Jake, and when he hears Dean behind him Sam freezes. He doesn’t look relieved to see Dean, but wary and weary. It’s Dean taking steps towards him, not the other way around, and it has to be because Sam doesn’t know if Dean saw him push Jake back. Sam doesn’t know how Dean’s going to respond to all this, to him, having powers that come from a demon, the demon, Azazel. Sam hasn’t had a chance to process anything. He’s scared. He’s tired. And the way the anime focuses on Sam’s eyes here. Gah. “Dean. Dean, I’m...” I’m sorry. I’m all right. I’m glad you’re okay. I’m a monster. There’s also this one shot between Sam and Azazel that sends me because of how anime it is.
AHBL part 2. I love how Sam brought back to life is animated, with all the color returning to his face and a light wind rustling his hair and his lips parting to indicate his soul returning to his body. Jake attacks Dean, and, a lot like how Sam activates telekinesis to save Dean from Max in Nightmare, Sam gets a burst of superhuman strength. He rips Jake’s arm off and tackles him to the ground and beats him to death, punches holes into his body, and it’s so savage and bloody and scary, and I love it. The Devil’s Gate opening looks so cool animated. Same goes for Dean shooting Azazel with the Colt.
Not to turn this into a meta post, but I also noticed how the last couple times Sam uses his powers they’re colored green-yellow, the same colors as Mary’s ghost when she reveals herself in the anime’s Home, and I don’t know if that’s intentional, but it’s neat how it draws a connection to Sam’s biological family instead of Azazel’s blood.
The Spirit of Vegas is like Bad Day at Black Rock, but Dean has all the bad luck instead, and it shows off the silly cartoony physics that make animation fun. The boys sleep outside and split a chunk of bread for dinner. Also this lil bit of Dean’s hair tied in a bow.
- (STOP) the brothers are pretty. I am not immune to animated Sam and Dean Winchester.
Cons:
- Jensen doesn’t voice Dean until the last 2 episodes
- The English dialogue is really bad sometimes. I wish I could’ve watched the sub, but I couldn’t figure out how to change the language
- Some character designs are really different from the live action, and maybe that’s petty, but if you’re gonna change the characters diversify them? Don’t just make them unrecognizable white people
- Missouri’s design as a stereotypical witch doctor is racist
- Gordon is replaced by some British guy named Jason?? Why
- There’s an LGBT character who is not accepted by her family and, while that bigotry is always shown to be negative and she dies the hero of the episode, she still dies ://
- In the English dub Lily’s gf is made into her roommate instead. Idk about the sub
- Bobby’s pretty much a totally different character
- Sam and Dean are OOC sometimes
- Dean’s hair usually looks darker than Sam’s and it drives me crazy
- The storytelling is, overall, not nearly as good as the live action
- The non-Japanese lore in some episodes makes no sense. Sometimes it’s just plain ridiculous?? Like there’s a giant robot made of cars and scrap metal controlled by a demon? ? I wish I was making this up
- Meg’s role is severely reduced
- No Harvelles or Roadhouse
- Shadows are overused, but maybe that’s because the og show is so dark?
- I don’t mind the art style. I like the aesthetic, but I wish it was a little more expressive. It doesn’t do Sam’s puppy eyes justice.
- AZAZEL’S SHADOW?? PROPORTIONS?? PEA SIZED HEAD
- Idk why they mashed season 1 and 2 together? The story feels rushed
- there’s not as much chemistry between Sam and Dean, but that’s a given without J2 on screen
- Nobody tells you!! That there’s scenes after the credits!! And some of them are important! Why are important scenes after the credits??
The anime would not be good on its own, without the heart and depth the live action brings, but it works as supplementary material you can cherry pick from. I would watch more if there were more episodes.
It hasn’t turned me off from wanting an spn anime. I’d like to see it continued or redone, with updated animation and better scripts. There’s a lot of potential in exploring more about the psychic kids and Sam’s powers, storylines that were cut short in the og show. Animation is a great medium for showing off the supernatural, getting creative and creepier with the designs, dramatic with the fight scenes, without having to worry about bad CGI. I don’t want a live action reboot, but I think a redone animated series could be a lot of fun! (As long as it’s not an excuse to make any romantic ships take over. SPN is a platonic love story, and I like it that way.)
If you made it to the end here and are interested in watching the spn anime, you can watch it for free on the CW Seed app! You can probably stream it elsewhere, but idk where!
#spn anime#supernatural#supernatural the anime#my detailed pros is pretty much me letting you know what episodes are worth watching#and why#its bad but I kind of like it#I like what they were going for. the potential it has#I like sam and there's lots of sam

Don’t Hate Me
Fandom: DC
Type: one-shot
Prompt/Summary: “Hello! Can I request a Damian Wayne x reader where the reader can communicate and control animals, so when the batfam sees her fight for the first time, they're like, hella surprised and Dami is very pleased that the reader treats the animals so kindly? 💜💜👽”
Pairing(s): Damian Wayne x Reader
Requested? YES by @comicnerd557
I mostly focused on the controlling part but the communication is implied. I hope you enjoy :)
-Duckie
“Come on Y/N just show me what your power is please~” Dick begged for what felt like the millionth time today. Ever since Damian had let it “slip” that you had an ability that even he didn’t know about all of the Wayne boys had become curious.
“Just give us a hint,” Tim pressed as you sat on one of the sofas, getting ready for a post-patrol movie night.
“I’m telling you she’s not going to give it up,” Damian said as he sat beside you and wrapped an arm around your shoulders, you were quick to snuggle into his side.
“How about this,” Jason began settling into one of the armchairs, “If we guess right or even pretty close then you have to tell us that we’re right, okay?”
“Deal,” you said as Dick started the movie but it was pointless considering they spent the entirety of it trying to guess at your power. They were close a couple of times but not enough to call them right.
“Okay can you, um, teleport people?” Dick asked as the credits rolled.
“Nope,” you said, popping the ‘p’ and repositioning to place your head in Damian’s lap.
“Alight how about —“ Jason started but was interrupted as all of your phones began to chime with a crime alert from Bruce, who was already suited in the cave when you all arrived, he probably hadn’t taken it off.
“Sorry to interrupt movie night but I could use a hand with something,” Bruce said, “Get suited up, I’ll brief you in 5.”
“So much for a quiet night,” you said before you all suited up for a second time that night.
When you all got back there were already images and CCTV footage on the Batcomputer and Bruce didn’t hesitate to begin.
“At approximately 3:45 AM Killer Croc and Gorilla Grodd released all the animals from the Gotham Zoo from their cages but have yet to release them into the city. They’re trying to wait until sunrise for their ‘animal liberation.’
“The police are there but it seems they have lions and tigers barricading the entrances. We’ll go in, take down Crock and Grodd, and put the animals back. Hopefully before breakfast,” he finished and you saw Damian’s hands become fists, you knew he had a soft spot for animals and it was one of the reasons you hesitated to tell him about your powers.
You controlled them, for lack of a better word. Yes, they might have been drawn to you but like Grodd, it didn’t take much for them to bend to your will.
“One last thing,” Bruce continued, “You’ll be needing these. Attach them to your temples and Grodd won’t be able to get inside your head.” He looked to you, “Y/N, you’ll be needing this too,” Bruce said and handed you an amplifier. You looked at him and shock but he only winked at you.
Damn, he really was the world’s greatest detective.
“What why does she get a special gadget?” Jason asked.
“It probably has to do with her powers, idiot,” Tim retorted.
“Shut up replacement. Y/N you told B about your powers before us? I’m hurt,” he said throwing a hand over his heart as you all made your way to your vehicles.
“Let’s be honest, nobody tells B anything,” you said before hopping onto your cycle and revving the engine.
———
The Zoo was controlled chaos when you got there. Gordon already knew what Grodd’s powers were so he had fewer men than with a regular villain. Just in case the gorilla somehow managed to be able to control the animals and the police there wouldn’t be too many at his disposal.
You split into two teams Bruce, Tim, and Dick would focus on Killer Croc whilst you, Damian, and Jason went after Grodd. They had barricaded themselves in the middle of the zoo along with crocodiles and gorillas because they truly were that cliche.
Killer Croc put up a good a fight as ever but he couldn’t do much when Grodd turned on him and forced the animals to defend only himself. Croc went down cursing Grodd’s name as Batman and Nightwing left to take him to the authorities.
“Now that the nuisance is out of the way I can focus my energy on getting rid of all you pests,” he said and began his onslaught. You fought but waited for Batman’s signal before hitting the amplifier on your neck and stretching your powers.
“Stop,” you spoke, holding a hand in front of Grodd and he immediately went lax before you.
Damian and his brothers also froze as Batman and Nightwing returned to the battlefield.
“What the hell?” Grodd spoke angrily, “What are you doing to me girl?!” He screamed at you.
“You’re strong Grodd but your downfall is that you’re also an animal and I control animals,” you told him, a smug smile on your face as he roared at you.
“Silence,” you commanded and he found himself unable to speak.
“Take his helmet, Robin, it’s still controlling the animals but they can’t move if he can’t. The cuffs are on my belt,” you told him and Damian quickly removed it and disabled it. Within minutes he was in police custody with the proper utilities to ensure he wouldn’t be using his powers any more tonight.
“Nice work Y/H/N,” Batman complimented and you smiled at him.
“Couldn’t have done it without this,” you told him tapping the amplifier.
“Feel free to keep it. Now let’s get these animals back in their enclosures,” Batman said and you all instantly got to work.
You took the lead mostly, coaxing the larger animals back to where they should be but stopping often to pet them or appreciate how beautiful they were. At some point, Robin had joined you in or rather stared watch you as you were getting the polar bears back to their place.
Even though you weren’t looking at him you could feel his eyes on you from your crouched position rubbing at the polar bear cubs belly.
“What?” You asked as the cub rolled over and stood up to join its mother behind the gates.
“So this is your power? It is truly“ you braced yourself for the worst, “amazing,” Damian finished and you had to do a double-take.
“Huh?” You said dumbly, not expecting that at all.
He grabbed your hand so you stood next to him but still avoided eye contact.
“Why did you not tell me sooner?” Damian questioned softly, releasing your hand because you were still in uniform even if your only witnesses were animals.
You thought about beating around the bush or making a joke of it but instead, you said, “I thought you’d hate me.”
“Hate you?” He said, incredulous, so much so that you spared a glance at him and suddenly you took interest in anything but him.
“Yes, I’m no better than Grodd,” You said fingers grazing over the feathers of a passing peacock.
“Tsk, I assure you that you are not similar to that overgrown monkey in the slightest. Let’s go home,” he said and you nodded.
——
When you got back you took a long shower and didn’t see Damian again until you found him reading on his bed as the sun rose.
He looked at you, all smiles as if nothing had changed and it made you look away again as you sat next to him.
Damian sighed at your silence and put his book down, holding your hand instead.
“What’s wrong beloved?” He asked, noting your lack of eye contact.
“I just don’t understand why you’re so okay with my power. I mean I can’t stand it and I hate using it,” you told him and risked a glance into his blue orbs, suddenly you couldn’t look away.
“Y/N do you want to know one of the reasons I fell in love with you?” When you said nothing he continued, “It’s because Ace, Titus, and Alfred don’t like anyone outside of the family for at least a month but the moment you stepped through the door they were as smitten with you as I was,” he told you and your eyebrows raised in surprise.
“Really? ” You asked, you hadn’t even noticed.
“Yeah, and then when you told me you were studying to be a vet I fell a little harder. And when I came back from patrol and found you and Titus sleeping on my bed. And when you carried that bird half a mile in the rain because of its broken wing,” he said and before he could continue you interrupted.
“Robin, it was a robin. I found it a day after we told each other about our night lives. I thought of you that entire half-mile,” you told him smiling as the rising sun began to make his eyes shine.
“There you go again,” he said and you tilted your head slightly in confusion, “Making me fall in love.”
You felt your cheeks warm beneath your chocolate skin as he used his free hand to cup your face.
“I don’t hate you or your power beloved, I know people who would be more than happy to abuse an ability like yours but you only use it for good. Hell if it was up to me I’d use it to make Alfred attack Drake non-stop,” he smiled at you and you couldn’t help the laugh that escaped your lips.
“That laugh too, I have always loved your laugh,” he told you.
“Okay now you’re getting cheesy,” you smiled as he released your hand to mimic the one on your face.
“Oh am I?” He teased inching closer and closer to your face.
“Absolutely,” you told him before closing the space between you and falling into a kiss that was all smiles and love.
Suddenly you didn’t hate your power so much.

So I love your sibling jasonette stuff and was wondering if you wouldnt mind writing more? Bonus if Mari gets hurt and Jason gets overprotective, sorry I just love angst tho. Your writing is amazing tho!
I love writing sibling Jasonette! Like so much! I never mind writing more :)
The Sidekick Curse
Marinette was having a pretty good day overall.
Batman had finally accepted her in his city as his protegee which meant she could permanently spend time with Jason. She was so excited to tell him the good news that his killer stare completely went over her head.
“Turn him down.”
Marinette’s jaw went slack as she stared at Jason’s unmoving scowl.
“But Jaybird, you know this has been my dream ever since I moved to the States! Plus it means he’ll stop trying to kick me out of Gotham! We’ll finally get to spend more time together!”
Jason didn’t answer. Instead he crossed his arms standing firmly in his former position.
“I can’t believe you don’t want me around!”
“Marinette that’s not it-”
“Then what is it?” She hadn’t meant to snap at him but as his eyes hardened, she slowly began to feel the guilt waves rolling in. “I’m sorry Jason, I know he’s not your favorite person but it’ll be different. You were just a kid-”
“You’re just a kid Marinette.” His stare had every fiber in her body screaming to turn and run, but instead something just snapped.
“I’m eighteen Jason. It’s my decision to work with Batman so that I can handle the next big threat that comes my way. I don’t know why I even told you in the first place.”
Jason’s eyes softened as he watched her turn to leave. He didn’t reach out to stop her and somehow, that just made the pain worse. Marinette picked up her pace as she dove into the nearest alleyway to transform. Swinging her yo-yo, she vaulted onto the roof, rolling to a stop before turning on her comm.
“Red, give me a mission, anything. I need to get out of here.”
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Marinette dropped down into the port keeping her eyes peeled for where Batman could be hiding. Tim told her that he might need backup but to do her best to stay out of his way, only intercept if necessary.
The problem with that? Marinette had no idea where Batman was, so how was she supposed to be his back-up?
A small yelp caught her attention as she pressed her back flat against the nearest line of containers trying to stay in the shadows. Before she could contemplate moving a cold barrel pressed into the back of her head.
“Well, well, well, What do we have here? You’re not a batbrat.”
Marinette swallowed hard readying herself to disarm him the moment she saw an opening.
“No, I’m not. I’m Lady Luck.”
“Really, that’s the best you got little girl?”
Marinette slammed her heel into his foot while using her hand to push the gun into the air right as he fired. With one twist of his wrist, he dropped the gun allowing her to kick it far away.
“Look I’m trying here. I just need a new name and it’s really hard ya feel?”
The man swallowed as Marinette flung her whole weight into the man tackling them both to the ground. Using his dazed state to her aadvantage, she pushed off the ground into a sprint.
Batman was so going to kill her.
She heard the footsteps closing in behind her as she shot her yo-yo into the night sky hoping to catch onto anything to pull her away. Her feet landed on the nearest container with a soft thud watching as the men ran right past where she sat.
“You’re in over your head princess.”
Marinette’s eyes narrowed as her hand reached up to where her comm sat.
“Jason, this is a closed network, how are you even on it?”
“Timmy boy owed me a favor and now I'm paying it forward to you. Get out of there. Batman already left and if those men find you, you’re dead.”
Batman already left? Had she missed the signal Tim told her to look for? Maybe she really wasn’t ready for recon. She slowly stood ready to turn when a flash of dark fabric caught her attention.
Batman hadn’t left, he was right there, and he was surrounded.
“You lied Jason? Do you really hate him that much that you want to see him dead?”
Marinette was fuming as she swung toward where her hero stood, dropping in front of the man as the first round of shots were fired. She easily deflected them leaving several shocked men at the fact that they both still stood.
“Thanks.” Marinette’s gaze flickered to Batman’s in a frantic manner. Had she imagined that? Did Batman just thank her? Oh this day was just getting better.
“Lady Luck!”
Marinette didn’t get the chance to throw her yo-yo up as a bullet pierced her stomach. The pain was unbearable as she collapsed to the ground grasping at the trickle of blood as the shock spread through her body.
She wasn’t quite sure what happened next, all she could see was a fuzzy darkness clouding her vision before everything went dark,
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . “Where is she?”
Jason burst through the manor doors not even bothering to utter more than a hey. He was on a warpath and anyone who stood in his way be damned.
“Master Jason-”
“Listen Alfred,” Jason’s hand was in Alfred’s face as the butler simply raised an eyebrow at his antics. “I respect you, that's the only reason you’re not on the ground right now but I need to know where she is, now.”
Alfred simply shook his head motioning Jason forward toward the secret entrance. Without a sign of gratitude, Jason marched forward, practically tearing the door off its hinges. Entering the batcave, he felt as if he had been sucker punched in the gut. All the air in his lungs deflated at the sight of the blood that covered the medtable.
Standing over her was Bruce himself, Tim and some doctor talked off to the side, their faces both grimm.
“You piece of shit!” Jason’s fist acted on its own as it connected with Bruce’s jaw. The man staggered backwards holding out a hand as if trying to slow him down. Pathetic.
“You just had to take her under your wing, give her that good ole sidekick curse huh?”
Jason landed another punch, Bruce not even attempting to stop the assault.
“You just break us all down until we leave or die trying!”
He threw his fist again but this time it never connected. Instead, Tim stood between the two of them, slightly struggling to withhold Jason’s fist.
“Jason, you’re not going to help her by beating him up. He already feels bad enough. We didn’t know the limits of her suit until tonight, she’ll recover eventually.”
Jason opened his mouth to retaliate when he heard her. It was soft, almost inaudible, but he could swear that she was calling to him. He tried to take a step forward, but the labcoat got in his way.
“Sir I think you should take a moment and calm down before approaching the patient.”
Jason attempted to side step the man, but he simply moved with him still blocking him from Marinette. He felt his fist curling as the doctor side stepped once more, still in his way. His hands darted out as he lifted the doctor from the ground by his crumbled lab coat.
“Listen here, that’s my sister right there and she needs me. Move or be moved, I could care less.”
Without much care, he dropped the doctor as he made his way to Marinette’s side. Crouching down to her eye level, he carefully gathered her hand, squeezing it tightly.
“I’m here Marinette, I won’t let you leave me, you hear? You’re stuck with me forever.”
His eyes darted toward the three men as if daring them to disagree, daring them to try and move him.
For weeks he stayed right by her side, never leaving for more than ten minutes at a time. Slowly he watched her recover as she practiced stretching, then walking and eventually running once more.
“Jaybird, I think I’m almost ready to get back to it.”
His smile was solemn. Nobody had the heart to tell her that there was no way Bruce would let her back out again. Not while Jason was still breathing. But that was a conversation for another day. For now, he was just glad that she was still alive.
“Almost princess, almost.”

Is this Mission Over Yet?
Written for the Jasonette July “Joint Mission” prompt.
Jason’s anxiety was starting to ramp up. That was the fourth person he could have sworn was going to turn back toward the office they had broken into and there was definitely a lot more noise getting closer to them. This was taking far too long for his liking. He was keeping a lookout while Marinette worked on the computer to transmit the contents of the computer over to Red Robin and Oracle. Adding to his anxiety was the fact that they were not suited up. No, that would be too easy. They were there undercover, in disguise so nobody would be able to associate Wayne son Jason Todd with the break-in. They were just a civilian couple out for a little dirty fun. He didn’t even have his guns because the club acting as a front for this particular child kidnapping ring had metal detectors.
“Can you hurry this up? Things are starting heat up out there. I don't know how much longer we have.”
“Patience is a virtue,” Marinette sing-songed back at him, eyes not leaving the computer screen she was working on.
“Not right now it isn't,” he glanced back at her, still keeping his position at the office door. “I don't think you understand how deranged the guys are, Pixie. We do not want to get caught.”
“You saying you couldn't take them out for me? You going to make me take them out all by myself?” she gasped, batting her eyes at him in mock innocence.
Turning to fully face her. “I’m saying these guys do some terrible shit to people and they don’t even bat an eye at it. Shit I would really like to spare you from seeing.”
“You think there is something more terrifying I could see than that mustache?” She said flatly raising an eyebrow at him. “Can you turn around and watch the door, please? The obnoxiousness of your mustache is distracting me”
“Are you sure it isn't just my pretty face that's distracting you?” he grinned at her waggling his eyebrows at her.
“I'm sorry what was that? I couldn't hear you through that mustache” she deadpanned.
“You should have everything now, Red. How does it look?” she turned slightly to speak into her com.
“Still going through it, but it’s definitely looking better than Jason’s disguise.” They heard Red Robin announce over the coms.
“Oi! The point of a disguise is for nobody to recognize you. It has been very successful so far.”
“Only because nobody wanted to look at you longer than they had to.” They heard Damian’s voice add through the coms, making Marinette grin at Jason in triumph.
“Less chatter more moving. If you’re done transmitting the files get out of there.” Bruce growled over the coms.
“Okay, let’s get out of here” he said grabbing her hand and moving to return to the main floor of the club. They made it as far as the next hallway before they saw a shadow in the distance. “Damn,” Jason muttered under his breath. “Old fashioned way then.”
Marinette barely got out “What’s the…” before Jason pushed her up against the wall, nearly crushing her with his body. He put one hand on the wall to her side, the other he placed on her leg, moving it slowly up her thigh. Her breath hitched as he lowered his head close to hers. He got so caught up in how she felt against his body and the feel of her breath on his face, he didn’t even note the two rather large men moving into the hallway as he moved to kiss her. He never made it to her lips. He was stopped by her hand on his chest holding him firmly where he was.
“Don’t even think about it Yosemite Sam,” she whispered before violently pushing him away and barking at him “I am not some midnight snack you can pick up whenever you get bored with your wife downstairs, asshole.” She stormed off toward the stairs shoving past the goons in her way, who turned to Jason and started chuckling at him. “Think you picked the wrong one. Should have married that one,” the tall one said pointing toward the stairs Marinette had taken.
“Don’t I know it,” Jason grumbled loud enough for them to hear as he passed them toward the stairs.
“It looks like this is exactly what we need to track down the warehouses they are using. We should recoup and come up with a plan for tomorrow.” Red Robin announced over the coms.
“Does that mean the undercover portion of the mission is over?” Marinette asked, already making her way to the exit.
“Undercover portion is over. Come back home you two.” Oracle confirmed.
“Thank God! I was counting down the seconds until this mission was over.”
“Aw, what’s wrong Pixie? Didn’t like spending so much time with me?” he whispered in her ear as he placed his hand on the small of her back, guiding her ahead of him as they walked through the door.
“If I have to look at that atrocity you call a disguise for much longer I am going to scream, and not in a fun way. My eyes might start bleeding.”
“That’s just hurtful. I look amazing with this mustache,” he preened and posed for her.
She narrowed her eyes at him, “Look me in the eye and say that again.”
“Gladly cupcake.” Repositioning himself to stare in her eyes, cocky grin on his face as he moved his face so it was a mere few inches away. “I look amazing mmmph…” His eyes widened as her hands shot up to his mouth to stop the rest of the sentence.
“Now that, I can agree with.” She removed her hands with a sly grin. “I would have done that with my lips but my lips are going nowhere near you until you get rid of that thing. My hands feel dirty enough having touched it.” She walked away leaving Jason gaping in her wake. Noticing he wasn’t following after her she turned around to look at him, still walking away with a smirk, “What’s wrong, lover boy? Can dish it out but can’t take it?” she called back.
“Oh that’s it!” He exclaimed loudly, running after her, picking her up and throwing her over his shoulder without slowing down. “I’ll show you what I can dish out.” Marinette squeaked loudly in surprise before devolving into a fit of giggles.
“Hey! I still need a report,” Batman growled into the coms.
“You’re not getting one tonight, B,” Oracle informed him.
“Yeah, I knew what I was getting into when I paired them in the first place,” he sighed.

This is my take on the Street Siblings AU by @a-sketchy-character! I told them earlier that I’d write something for it, so here I am owning up! Of course, you can read their comic based on this au @streetsiblings. Of course, @greytoiletpaper also wrote one (https://archiveofourown.org/works/27100699/chapters/66175306) and Experimental_Muse wrote this one (https://archiveofourown.org/works/27037882). Go check them out! Since this is such a popular concept, I hope I do a good job.
—
Jason pops another M&M into his mouth, rolling it around on his tongue instead of chewing it. He has no idea why someone would throw away a perfectly good bag of candy, but he’s not going to think too hard about it. Maybe he’s imagining it, but he can feel the strength coming back into his limbs. He feels less sleepy, too.
He tucks the empty bag into the pocket of his frayed jeans, already regretting finishing them. Now that he’s eaten something, what else is he going to do with his day? He hasn’t found any cigarettes, which is a pain, since it’s so cold that his nose feels numb and he could really use some warm smoke to fill up his aching lungs.
Maybe he’ll go to the library. He’s still too small to kick out for loitering, right? Just as he turns to leave the alley, Jason feels a shiver run up his spine. He whips around, raising his fists defensively. Nobody’s there. This doesn’t calm him down. Jason squints as he peers into the dark, wet alley, looking for any sign of movement.
“Hey,” he says in the deepest, roughest voice he can muster. “Think good and hard about what you’re about to do, buddy.”
What is the invisible person about to do? Jason isn’t sure, but he wants them to think good and hard about it. He hears a scuffle and nearly jumps out of his skin only to realize that it’s just a rat migrating from beneath the dumpster to a pile of cardboard boxes.
“What are you playing?” Jason asks. This voice is making his throat hurt. “Is this some kind of joke?”
Nobody answers. Jason weighs his options and decides that the best choice is to make a run for it. He nearly slips on a patch of slush in his haste to get out of the alley. Even when he’s a safe two blocks away he still has an uneasy feeling.
—
A couple of hours later, Jason has shaken off that gross feeling and has settled down outside the 7-11. He used to go here a lot– when his mom was around, it was where they got their groceries. Sometimes she’d splurge and they would split a can of Yoohoo. Even though he doesn’t have any money to go in with, something about the worn bricks and the smoky smell is comforting.
A gaunt man with dark circles under his eyes and a scraggly gray beard joins him, sitting gingerly on the damp ground.
“Afternoon,” he says cordially.
“It’s dark out,” Jason says. He’s not sure what time it actually is. Days and nights tend to blur together. They’re basically the same, though nights tend to be more dangerous.
“Damned if it isn’t,” the man says. “What’s a kid doing out this late?”
“Anywhere else I’m supposed to be?” Jason asks, scowling.
“Just askin’, just askin’,” the man says, raising his palms. “I’d just get somewhere safe if I was you. Some guy’s been– what?”
“What?” Jason repeats after him. “What’s going on?”
“Just thought I… It’s not safe for kids out there lately, is all I’m sayin’.”
Jason sighs and shoves his hands deeper into his pockets, dragging down the edge of his hoodie. “Is it that big a deal?” It’s never really safe out there, but he’s always gotten by fine. “You’re not a kid, so you’re fine.”
“Nothin’ wrong with a little empathy,” the man says.
Jason rolls his eyes and walks off to find another place to lurk.
—
It happens the next day, too. Jason has the unpleasant feeling of eyes on his back when he covertly removes a woman’s wallet from her purse and he’s certain someone is about to yell “Stop! Thief!” but nobody does.
When he walks proudly out of McDonald’s with a bag of french fries bought will ill-gotten money, he expects someone to ask for one. Of course, he would have said “no,” but it’s almost disappointing when there’s nobody to answer. He’s not disappointed enough to be really put-off, though. He still stuffs his face wholeheartedly.
Maybe he’s just being paranoid.
—
Jason has been sleeping rough lately. The condemned buildings are already full of squatters, and he knows better than to accept “help” from people who offer couches to young boys. With nowhere inside to sleep, he’s been hiding from the sleet in a cardboard shelter he built in an out-of-view area between buildings and lined with newspaper.
Of course, it’s not usually safe to build a fire when your whole house is so flammable, but he’s risking it tonight. He has a pile of yet more cardboard and newspaper on the other side of the alley, but it’s damp and he’s having a rough time getting it to set alight.
“Come on,” he mutters as he clicks the lighter yet again. It’s a nice one (his mother had liked it a lot) but it doesn’t seem to be doing the trick. Jason curses under his breath as the edge of the funnies page smolders and blackens without actually catching fire. Garfield stares at him judgmentally. That’s when he hears it.
A light “thump,” soft but unmistakable. Jason’s head snaps up. He’s afraid to turn and look. At best, it’s another bum looking to share his fire. At worst, it’s…
“What are you looking at?” he says harshly, still not turning his head. “Go find somewhere else.”
The presence at his back doesn’t go away. He feels frozen in place– he’ll admit it, he’s afraid. He knows someone has been following him. He doesn’t know who or why. He hasn’t had a moment where it’s not on his mind, and now his mysterious pursuer is right behind him. His only option is to protect himself.
Jason very slowly reaches into his pocket for the worn switchblade he’s carried since he was nine. His hand trembles as he wraps his fingers around the cold handle.
A hand is laid on his shoulder. He shoots up, pulling the knife out of his pocket and spinning around to face the person behind him.
Before he’s able to do anything a small, strong hand wraps around his wrist, stopping the freed knife in its path. His arm is yanked forward and a palm is shoved under his chin, forcing his face up. He just stands that way for a second, too shocked to move. His opponent doesn’t try to do anything else; they just keep him stuck with his chin pushed up and his arm stretched out, knife useless.
Slowly, cautiously, the hand under his chin lowers, though the grip on his wrist is still tight. He gets a good look at the person who’s apparently decided to hold him hostage.
They’re a kid. They’re (she’s) a little girl, much shorter than him, with big, serious eyes and a mouth covered by a heavy scarf.
“You’re really small,” he says through the hand that’s still partly covering his mouth. “What the fuck.”
She assesses him, eyes darting from his face to his free hand to his battered shoes. Slowly, she loosens her grip and lets go of his chin, releasing him. She takes a step back, body tense and ready to attack or dart away at any second.
Jason clicks his blade back into its case and slides the knife back into his pocket, not looking away from the girl’s face. She has dirty black hair that hangs in her eyes and thick brows. Her nose is delicate and rounded. If she hadn’t just had him in a painful hold, he would have assumed she was harmless.
“Why have you been following me around?” he asks. She doesn’t answer. “What do you want from me?” Again, no answer. Jason sighs (a puff of mist from his mouth). “I’m Jason.” He holds out his hand. Hesitantly, she grips it. Her hand is cold and thin. She still doesn’t say anything.
The girl lets go of his hand and points to the lighter on the ground. It glints at him in greeting.
“What?” Jason asks.
The girl squats on the ground and retrieves the lighter. She hands it to him and points at the pile of cardboard and newspaper.
“Wanna make a fire?” he asks. “There’s garbage in there, so it’ll stink.”
She doesn’t nod. She just points again expectantly.
“'Kay,” Jason says. “Can you talk at all?”
The girl doesn’t respond. Jason shrugs and crouches by his fire heap. The girl plops back on her bottom and crosses her legs.
It takes a while to get it to light. It’s a little embarrassing failing again and again with someone there to watch. Finally, one of the dryer pieces of paper goes alight and spreads to one of the bigger pieces of cardboard.
“See? It does work!” Jason says. Does he sound defensive? “It usually works fine,” he adds. This doesn’t make him any less embarrassed. He puts the lighter in his pocket with the switchblade and holds his hands out, taking in the heat. The girl pulls down her scarf. In the flickering light, he can see she’s smiling at him. She holds out her hands too, and they sit in silence for some time.
—
Jason realizes he’s awake before his eyes open. He’s aware again that his nose and fingers are cold and the back of his hair is wet from the damp concrete. His eyes flicker open and he sees that it’s daytime, pale gray and foggy. He rolls over, realizing with some consternation that he’s not even in his box hut. Anybody could have come and gotten him while he was asleep. He’s lucky they didn’t. He shouldn’t be so– what.
Someone is a few feet away from him, sitting up with her arms wrapped tightly around her knees, looking at him thoughtfully.
Jason scrambles backward, scraping his hands on the rough concrete. He bumps his head on the brick wall behind him. It seems that the bricks knock some sense into him because suddenly the events of last night come back to him and he feels like an idiot.
“What are you doing?” he asks, rubbing his head.
The girl scoots over to him and pats his shoulder. Ah. She’s still not talking. Jason sits up straight. He pats her shoulder back. She smiles.
“So, do you just want to hang around here?” Jason asks, even though he knows she won’t answer. “In this alley?”
The girl just looks at him. This is starting to get frustrating.
“Just– just stay, I guess,” Jason says, standing. He points at the ground. “I’ll be back. I’m gonna go get something to eat.”
He backs out of the alleyway, raising his palms as though he’s trying to calm a wild animal. He turns around when he’s certain that she’s staying. He puts his hands in his pockets and releases a breath of relief. Something about that girl makes him nervous. What’s her game? Is she just stupid? He wraps his fingers around the lighter and somehow feels a little more secure.
Jason settles outside a coffee shop and crosses his legs. Dozens of people walk right past him, ignoring his grubby face as they head to work.
“Hey, miss,” Jason says, making eye contact with a woman in a blue pantsuit. An almost fearful look falls on her face as she realizes she’s been wrangled into an interaction with him. “Got a dollar?”
“I’m sorry,” she says quickly. “I don’t carry change.” She scurries off, nearly slipping in her high heels on the icy sidewalk.
“'Scuse me,” Jason says to the lady with the corgi on a leash. “That’s a cute dog you have there.”
“Thank you,” the lady says apprehensively. She walks a little faster.
“Wait!” Jason says. “Can I pet him?”
“S-sure,” the lady says. She turns and walks the dog up to Jason. It smiles stupidly at him. Jason stretches his hand out and it sniffs him with its wet nose. Jason rubs it between the ears. Even though this is for selfish reasons, he appreciates its attention.
“Can you spare seventy cents?” Jason asks. “For a bottle of water?”
The lady, with nowhere to escape to, reaches into her purse, takes out a dollar, and drops it into Jason’s open hand. Jason thanks her sweetly. When she walks away, he can’t hide his shit-eating grin.
Jason manages to gather up seven dollars before the coffee shop’s manager comes out and says “scram.” Jason smiles appeasingly as he leaves. He knows better than to get in a fight with someone without holes in their shoes.
At the convenience store, Jason buys an energy drink and a hot dog, like usual. Then he remembers someone is waiting for him and adds a plastic-wrapped breakfast sandwich. He’s wondering whether the stupid girl is a coffee person when the cashier starts giving him suspicious looks, so he grabs another Red Bull and pays quickly.
It’s kind of nice shopping for someone else. Even if it’s a little sad to think about the last time he was shopping for two. He whistles quietly as he walks through the glass door when– oops.
“Watch where you’re going!” he snaps.
The girl steps back and smiles apologetically.
“Oh… It’s you.” The door swings shut behind Jason. “I’d ask you to stop following me, but I don’t think you understand what I’m saying.”
The girl tilts her head. Maybe she does understand? Whatever.
He gestures for her to follow him. The convenience store people don’t like it when he hangs out right by the door. It creeps out the customers.
There aren’t as many people on the sidewalk anymore; they’ve all gone on with their days. Jason notices that the girl skips a little on her shorter legs to keep up with him. She isn’t wearing socks, he realizes. That can’t be good in this weather.
They stop to sit on the front steps of the law office. Jason pulls the food out of his plastic grocery bag and hands the sandwich to the girl. She takes it gratefully. He takes out his hot dog and realizes that the jostling while he was walking has deconstructed it. He shrugs.
“I’m guessing you’re new around here,” Jason says. “You’re not supposed to just latch on to people.”
The girl starts tearing greedily into her sandwich.
“I do pretty well on my own. I’m not gonna babysit you, you know.”
She nods. Again, Jason isn’t sure she’s taking in what he’s saying.
“Seriously. You can’t hang out with me. I’m busy.”
She smiles. Jason rolls his eyes.
“I like being alone.”
The sandwich is gone. She points to his hot dog.
“I mean, I guess,” he says, handing it to her. She looks at it for a second. A guilty expression falls on her face and she hands it back. “I don’t even know your name.”
“Cassandra,” she says.
“Wait, you can talk?”
“Jason,” she says, patting his shoulder.
The snow is dirty, but the sun glints off it prettily. Jason hates to admit it, but he’s in a pretty good mood right now.

Class Fight (p.2)
pairing: teen!dandy mott x teen!reader
word count: 1,666
warnings: language, jealous dandy, slightly au!dandy, all characters are 18
part 1 part 3
1.
When he opened the door, you saw both boys sitting in chairs. They both had packs of ice on their faces and sheepish expressions.
"What were you thinking?" you hissed to them as Mr. Harmon gestured for you to take the empty seat next to Dandy.
"Well, now that y/n is here, I think you both owe her an explanation and an apology."
Jason and Dandy shared a look. Dandy now looked pissed, and you could only imagine what lead to this.
Oh, I have a pretty good fucking idea.
"Well?"
Principal Harmon looked at the boys expectantly. Jason and Dandy awkwardly moved in their seats, not looking at each other as their faces slowly turned black and blue as seconds ticked by.
You waited impatiently, your feet bobbing as you rolled your eyes. Principal Harmon was staring directly at the boys.
"Fine. I'll start." Jason said, throwing the melting ice pack on the desk. Dandy was glaring at his legs. "This guy is a fucking psychopath!-"
"Watch your language, Mr. Dean!" Mr. Harmon snapped, his fist beating against the desk. You jumped as a glass of water tipped over and soaked the floor.
"I apologize. He's crazy." Jason shrugged, "A nutter."
"That's extremely rude," you commented.
Jason laughed to himself, "y/n, you have no idea."
"Mr. Mott?" Principal Harmon inquired, staring at the oldest boy. "Would you care to counter?"
"No," Dandy said flatly.
"Dandy?" you asked, managing to catch his eyes before he looked away.
Dandy adjusted the ice pack. "I don't like him, he's a fu- moron."
"I could say the same!" Jason countered.
"Boys." Mr. Harmon sighed.
"You're a disgrace," Jason shook his head.
"You're an imbecile." Dandy laughed quietly.
"I want you to say that to my face, you looney bin." Jason snapped, curling his fist.
"Oh my gosh," you sighed, rubbing your face as the boys began to bicker and throw insults at each other nonstop.
"Boys!" Mr. Harmon snapped, "If you cannot set aside your differences for just a moment, you'll have detention every week for the rest of the year."
The boys shut up at that, mumbling half-assed apologies to one another.
"Now. You caused quite the spectacle in the quad today. Ms. Esmerelda is in the nurse's office with heart palpitations at the spectacle she witnessed today."
You frowned, wondering what the hell happened even more.
"It's not that big of a deal!" Jason sighed, "I punched the fucker in the face, we're even."
Principal Harmon sighed, "Language."
"Oh please, you curse up a storm all the time. It's just us in here!" Jason defended.
The principal had to hide his laugh. "Fine, I'll let it pass just this once."
Dandy was laughing, a slight crinkle in his eye as he winced from the bruise on his cheek.
"Dandy, this isn't funny," you groaned. "Why were you fighting and what does this have to do with me?" you insisted, standing up. Jason and Dandy both glanced at you, "The entire school probably knows about it by now and I don't take well to rumors!"
Dandy looked saddened as he looked at you, but Jason is the one who spoke first.
"Your friend thinks I'm trying to sleep with you."
Mr. Harmon cleared his throat, dabbing at his forehead as you gaped at the two boys. You could tell he was questioning his life choices.
You thought of the conversation earlier this week with Dandy. He currently looked proud of himself, dropping the ice pack. The bruise was nasty.
"He approached me and my friends as we were walking to the cafeteria. Matthew made a stupid comment about you, that I corrected him on, by the way," Jason defended, putting his hands up. "He told me to stay away from you and he threatened to kill me if I ever hurt you."
"Which is a threat we are taking very seriously." Mr. Harmon said, giving the infamous Harmon death stare to Dandy.
"I wasn't being serious... For the most part." Dandy shrugged.
You sank back into your seat, feeling yourself getting a headache. "Why are men like this?" you groaned.
"Is that it?" Mr. Harmon asked, looking between the boys.
"Yeah, we got into a fight and kicked the shit out of each other, then we got pulled apart. He hits like a girl." Jason laughed.
"I could easily say the same?" Dandy smirked.
"Fall into a fucking ditch." Jason mumbled.
"I'll be happy too, I don't want to be here anyway." Dandy replied.
You stared at Mr. Harmon, feeling like you were watching a television show that was about to be pulled from the air after the first episode. This had to all be a joke, right? There's probably a recorder under the table to be played over the speaker tomorrow.
"Mr. Harmon, I don't understand what is going on through their heads, but I can assure you that Jason and I are friends. The same with Dandy." you said. From the corner of your eye, you could see both boys with crestfallen expressions. "I don't condone violence and I certainly never wanted this to happen."
Mr. Harmon nodded, "I appreciate that, Ms. y/l/n. I do not blame you, men tend to be pigs." he said. The boys glared at him now. "To wrap this up, a month of detention for both of you, two nights a week. I don't want to go through this again, you hear?" he scolded.
The boys nodded slowly, and you stood up, wanting to go home and take a hot bath and listen to the radio. The boys stood up and sauntered out, Dandy giving you a genuinely sad look while Jason didn't bother to look you in the eye.
You heard the bell ring, and you could already hear students asking if they listened to what had transpired outside. You weren't prepared to deal with this. You were always under the radar. Nobody ever had a bad thing or a rumor to say about you. Now the entire school knew Dandy Mott caused a fight with the Quarterback over you.
Mr. Harmon was shuffling papers on his desk, and you turned to look at him. "Sir? Would it be alright if I go home for the day? I'm feeling unwell."
Mr. Harmon is a strict principal, for the most part. However, he gladly dismissed you, writing a note himself, and you took it to the lady at the front desk after you gathered your things. You ducked out as fast as you could, not caring that it was cold and rainy. By the time you got home, you had settled into a hot bath. You hoped the scalding water would just take you out.
-
You were shaken awake first thing in the morning by your mother, who told you the party's host was sick and wouldn't be hosting the Tupperware party. Which meant you had no plans on Saturday night.
You didn't mind. If you went to the dance now, it would just turn into a gossip party about you. You could always have a night to yourself and see a new release. Maybe go to the diner and get dinner before.
The rain from yesterday had not let up, so you stayed in with your mother and did some cleaning as she played the radio. Your father was away on last-minute business and wouldn't be back until Tuesday night. You liked spending time with your mother. She was soft-spoken and never butted in when it wasn't necessary. She was just that person you always wanted around.
She could tell something was bothering you. Over lunch, you ate in your room, going over the required reading for English. You could faintly hear some weather bulletin on the radio downstairs. You were expecting a call from Zoe talking about the dance being canceled.
Just minutes after the phone rang. Your mother answered below before calling up to you and saying a friend was calling. You smiled, running out of your room and down the stairs, taking the phone from your mother.
"You okay, Zoe?" you teased.
"Zoe?" your smile fell as you heard Dandy's voice on the other end. "It's Dandy."
"Oh, I'm sorry!" you smacked your head. Your mother gave you a concerned glance. "I was expecting her to... Never mind. What's up?" you asked.
"I need to talk to you," he said quickly. "I'm coming over."
You paused, "I-Now isn't a good time, Dandy-."
"I'm leaving now." he said before the line went dead.
You hung up the phone, giving your mother a look as she pretended to be busy.
"Uhh, Dandy is coming over, I guess." you said, slowly taking a seat at the table.
"Oh?" your mother asked, her lips twitching as she somehow tried washing a dish with a dry rag. "I wasn't aware you two were speaking."
Your mother knew Dandy often gave you a ride to school. She assumed that the relationship had come to an end with the girls picking you up every day.
"It's complicated." you answered sadly.
"I see." she said, seeming to realize she wasn't washing correctly. She dropped the hand towel, giving you a pointed look. "Is he causing you trouble?"
You frowned, figuring the school would call to notify the parents their daughter was the cause of a brawl between two model students. You were surprised but realized she would have said something had they told you.
"Not quite. Things are just rocky right now." you said before you heard knocking on the front door. He was here already? He lived all the way across town. You stood up, ignoring the joyful look your mom was giving you as you ran to the foyer, seeing the silhouette of Dandy through the glass.
You wrenched open the door, seeing a drenched Dandy shivering under the porch roof. You pulled him inside, ushering him upstairs before her curious mind could reel the both of you back in the kitchen.

i dont have much to say about this one!!! it’s just a story about carmina’s tenth birthday, and how the town of fall’s end is coping a decade after the collapse. uhhh there are some random children in it? bean is there! and of course john shows up, too, because that’s KIND OF THE POINT of mercyverse lol
technically there’s a story that comes before this, but i don’t have the vibe yet for it so i haven’t worked on it in a while. instead, i’ll probably just keep moving forward and throw up that one if the rest of the plot becomes at all relevant to the real main storyline. uhhh the next one will take place in the spring of 2029 and we’re going to start getting into some fun stuff that i’ve planned out for a while!!!
until then, uh, the usual: love you, please like/share/reblog/kudos/comment, whatever you feel good about doing, because i sure do love to share my universe with other people! hope you’re doing well and hopefully i’ll see you with another fic in a few weeks!
also as usual: the story text is below the cut for those of you who wanna stay on tumblr :)
It's Carmina's tenth birthday, and there's a party in town. The two things aren't exactly related, sure, but Carmina's used to sharing her birthday with the Collapse, and she's not about to turn down a bunch of free food. How can she not go to a real Hope County barbecue after her parents had hyped the experience up so much in the bunker? She'd hoped that her ninth birthday would have gotten a similar treatment, but the town just didn't have the food or people for it at the time. Her parents had told her that next year would be better; Carmina does her best to keep her imagination from blowing the whole thing out of proportion.
They leave a little bit after breakfast. Since John is coming along, mom has no excuse not to let Carmina ride in the back with him. He's not excited to be heading into town, but then again, the town isn't usually excited to see him, either. And considering what day it is, they're likely to be extra rude to him. Carmina doesn't get it, honestly, but she's just glad that she can ride in back without her mom grabbing onto her at every pothole and bump in the road.
The first surprise of the day comes as her dad parks just past the church, giving her a chance to stand up and look out over the town. She hasn't been here in a while, and so she's surprised to see that they've cleared out a lot of the dirt lot behind the usable buildings — and there are a lot of people hanging out there. Carmina's never seen so many people at once — she loses count around twenty and can easily guess double that. It's enough to rattle her nerves for just a second, before she catches the looks on her mom and dads' faces and realizes that this is probably a good thing. Sure, John looks like he wants to hop back in the truck and go home, but he always looks like that around strangers. Her parents, on the other hand, actually seem happy for once, and that's what matters to Carmina.
The second surprise is just how many of the adults seem to know her. Her parents move slowly through the mingling crowd, usually coming up with names for faces before Carmina's even looked at the strangers who call her by name. She gets lots of comments like, "I remember when your parents were expecting you!" and "I was wondering how the Rye's little girl turned out!" and even a few, "Glad to see you made it," comments that make her parents side-eye each other pretty fiercely. She doesn't need to introduce herself to anyone, not even people who her parents don't know so well — it's like everybody's always known her, and her family. It's kind of cool — but also kind of weird. Pastor Jerome always said that their family was a pillar in the community, but this is first-person evidence, right here in front of her.
Plenty of the adults wish her a happy birthday, too, but she knows their hearts aren't in it. It's one of the big drawbacks to sharing her birthday with the end of the world — nobody asks how old she is, nobody wants to know what she did on previous birthdays, and all of them have to make some kind of depressing comment. Like trying to get her to relate to birthdays before the Collapse: all they want to do is tell her about all the things she could be doing, or would be doing, if only the world hadn't ended. They want to share their birthdays from the past, but Carmina's never been to the movies, she doesn't know who Disney is, and she has no idea why they'd need a cake and candles for it all. Somebody tells her she should be graduating to the fourth grade, and she just stares back because what even is the fourth grade? What does that mean?
They mean well, so Carmina does her best not to upset anybody, but she knows that nobody appreciates how little she cares about life before the Collapse.
At least there are other kids in town today. Her mom had been telling her about some of them — kids who don't have families, who the town looks after — but Carmina's only ever met one of them, and that had been only for a few minutes. But Carmina can see them hanging out in the field, and as soon as her mom lets her, she heads right out to them. It's about time that she met people her age — she's getting tired of only ever talking to old people.
Of course, meeting strangers is still difficult for her, but she's saved from too much embarrassment as she recognizes the chicken brothers hanging out in the small group. She can't remember which one is Tom and which one is Matt, but they seemed really nice when they helped her pick out her chickens. She also recognizes the oldest boy in the group, although she can't remember his name at all. She's never seen the others before — two teenage girls, another boy her age, and a kid a couple years younger than her — but hopefully she won't make a total fool of herself.
"Hi," she says as she approaches, waving.
"Hey, Carmina," Matt-or-Tom says, stepping aside to make room for her in their makeshift circle. "I thought we would see you today."
"Yep," Carmina smiles, "Here I am!" She sees the teenagers' curious looks and tells them with little fanfare, "Today's my birthday."
"Oh," the oldest boy says. "That sucks."
One of the girls elbows him. "Don't be mean," she says.
"No, he's right," Carmina says. "It does suck."
"Well, happy birthday anyway. How old are you now?"
"Ten."
"Wow," the girl says. She looks at the boy, then back to Carmina, and says sympathetically, "You weren't kidding. That's rough."
Giggling with relief, Carmina waves once more. "It's okay. My name's Carmina, by the way. It's nice to meet you."
Being polite works like a charm, and the oldest boy is quick to go around with introductions. "Well, I'm Jason — this is Caroline, and this is Flower. The little kid there —"
"Hey!"
"— Is Bean, and... Sorry, man, what did you say your name was again?"
The other ten-year-old looking boy frowns and shoves his hands deeper into his pockets. "Luke," he says.
"Okay, Luke. And you know Tom and Matt."
"We were talking about the bison out in the field," Tom-or-Matt says. He points in the direction of home and asks, "Did you guys see the big one when you were coming into town?"
"The one that's all white?" Carmina asks, "With the big scar over its hump? We see that one all the time when we come out this way —"
"No, no," the other brother says, "Jason says there's a bigger one."
"I told you guys," Jason says, "I only saw it once, and it was late at night while I was up in the crow's nest. I don't think it comes out during the day."
Carmina frowns. "What big one? What do you mean?"
"Oh, boy," Caroline sighs, "Don't listen to him, Carmina, he's full of shit."
"Hey, language," Flower laughs.
"Look, I was pretty far away, but I had the sniper rifle and I wasn't sleeping on the job. Uh, so..." He points out over the field, towards a squat set of huts surrounding a tall, busted silo that's still standing. The view from up there must be great. "Jerome has me sit up in that tower sometimes, you know, to practice. So I was up there, looking around, and it was probably midnight or so... and I just see this glow out in the field. I think it's a fire, right? Maybe somebody made a camp out there on their way to town or something. So I look out through the scope — and it was a bison."
"A glowing bison?" Carmina asks skeptically.
"Yeah. Like, a monster bison. It was all dark and scaly looking, except for the way its belly glowed. I thought about shooting it, but..."
Caroline laughs. "He got scared. Or it wasn't real, and he's making it all up."
"I wasn't scared, and I'm not making it up! It's not like it could've hurt me up in the nest. It... just didn't feel right. You know, it was just grazing with the rest of the herd. And it moved off over the hill before I could change my mind or call anybody up to confirm it."
"Sure, Jason."
"I'm serious," Jason insists, "I really saw it, okay? I told Jerome about it and everything." He frowns at the dirt. "He said it might've been mutated after the bombs. Then he told me not to go looking for it."
"He's right," Flower says. "Even regular bison are pretty dangerous." She smiles. "That's why I like deer — they won't hurt you. If you sit really still, sometimes they'll even come up and lick your face."
"Oh," Carmina says. "I usually just shoot them. They eat all our vegetables otherwise."
"Yeah," Flower sighs, "Sometimes I do, too. But they're also nice to watch."
Tom-or-Matt looks to his brother. "I wonder if that's what we see outside at night?"
"What, deer?"
"No, dumbass." He turns to the group and explains, "Sometimes, when it's real late and I gotta use the bathroom, I'll see something glowing out in the woods. Dad's cut back a lot of space so it never gets very close, but... maybe it's another mutated animal."
"At least you'll see it coming when it tries to attack you," Carmina suggests.
"Gee, thanks."
Carmina knows he's probably teasing, but she still feels guilty for being so blunt about it. The least she can do is try to reassure him. "Well... most animals don't attack near houses, I don't think. When we first came out of the bunker, there were wild dogs and wolves that would watch us, and my dad was real worried about them — but now they mostly stay away from the property. I think it's because of the fence. You guys have a fence, right?"
"Yeah, plus a butt-load of chickens that freak out over anything out of the ordinary." Matt-or-Tom grins at her and asks, "Don't they wake you up with every little thing?"
Carmina briefly considers mentioning John being attacked, then decides against it. She also doesn't want to tell them that the chickens live mostly indoors at night now — the last thing she wants to do is kick off a whole big thing about the cult on her dang birthday! It's already hard enough pretending to care about them around her parents; she's not sure she could even force herself to bother here. And if she's not careful, the kids in town might start to think about her and her family the same way all the adults do.
"They're pretty docile, actually," she says, "And we only really see deer around our place... It's not like they eat chickens."
"Well.... maybe there's a mutant deer out there that wants to eat you," Tom-or-Matt teases.
Carmina rolls her eyes. "I'll shoot it before it gets past the hangar," she replies.
Of course, her dismissive confidence leads to a sprawling discussion on who might be the best shot out of the group. Carmina does her best to defend her skills, considering she can't prove any of it right now, but all three teens insist they're dead-eyes, and even Bean says he's "getting pretty good at the aiming part." On top of that, the kids from the town have gotten pointers from Aunt Grace herself, which means they might actually be better shots than Carmina expects.
"Maybe we should have a competition," Caroline suggests. "I bet Pastor Jerome and Aunt Grace would be okay with it."
"Sure," Jason laughs, "But you know they'd make us spend forty minutes disassembling and cleaning our rifles before and after. Like I don't know what I'm doing — I'm almost fifteen!"
"Have you guys been to Aunt Grace's?" Carmina asks. "She has a shooting range there."
"Maybe she'd let us use it!"
"I've never been to a real shooting range," Bean says.
"It's not a real shooting range," Jason points out, "Those all got blown up. Do you even know how to use a gun, Bean?"
"I just said I do! My dad taught me! I... just don't like the loud noises it makes."
Matt-or-Tom boasts, "We learned to shoot in our bunker. Mom collected Airsoft guns — they don't use bullets, so they can't kill you."
"What's the point of that?"
"I dunno, I guess practicing underground?"
Tom-or-Matt laughs. "Dad was convinced the Peggies were gonna get us, so he wanted us to know how to shoot."
The quiet kid, Luke, finally speaks up. "Lucky," he mutters, "Easier to learn underground, I bet."
"What about you?" Carmina asks. She tries not to cringe away when he stares back at her like he didn't expect anyone to hear him. Maybe he doesn't like people talking to him? "Um... my mom and dad had a bunch of gun magazines in the bunker, but I never got to shoot a real gun until we came outside. Mom and Aunt Grace have been teaching me, though, and I'm way better than my dad is."
Luke hesitates. "Kind of the same. We came up early, though. Had to."
"Me, too," Jason replies. "It was just me and my brother. I was five when we got stuck in the bunker — we went through our supplies in about three years, so we had to come back up."
"We... only stayed down until I could walk," Luke admits. "It was still really cold when we came up. And mom got real sick for a while."
"Yikes," Bean says, "That sucks!"
"Come on, bean," Jason snaps, "You don't say that."
"You just said it to her!" Bean shouts, pointing at Carmina.
"He's... right," Luke mumbles. "It sucked. It... still sucks. But things are getting better now." He looks up at them, then drops his eyes back to the dirt. "Sorry."
"Don't be," Carmina insists, "I asked first!"
"That's kind of the mood today," Caroline adds. "Don't worry. We can talk about something else."
The change in topic comes abruptly as Bean points towards the Church and asks, "Who is that with Pastor Jerome?"
Carmina doesn't need to look, but since the rest of the group does, she might as well too. John has his hat pulled low over his eyes, as usual, which makes him look suspicious, as usual. Knowing him, he probably didn't even leave the truck — just waited there for Jerome to come talk to him.
She can only hope that Tom and Matt keep their mouths shut since they're the only other kids who know what John looks like nowadays. Unfortunately for her, that hope is pretty quickly dashed.
"Oh," Matt-or-Tom says, like a jerk, "That's John, I think. Right, Carmina?"
"Wait," Jason says, "You're that Carmina?"
Carmina ducks her head. "Um... it depends, I guess?"
Flower, looking too sympathetic for Carmina's liking, tries to mediate. "He just means, well... Jerome talks about you sometimes."
"And he talks about that guy," Jason adds, pointing without any subtlety at all.
"Everyone talks about that guy," Caroline says with a sigh. She gives Carmina a sympathetic shrug as she does, as though she wishes she could stop the conversation from happening, too. That only makes Carmina worried that this isn't the first time the teenagers have sat around gossiping about John and the crazy people who decided to take him in.
"Wait," Bean gasps, way too loudly, "That's John Seed?"
"Oh my God," Matt-or-Tom sighs, "You gotta keep up with the conversation."
"Wait, what's he doing here? Why's he going into the church? I thought he wasn't supposed to come to town? I thought he was locked up!"
Carmina groans. "It's my birthday," she whines, "I don't wanna talk about John today!"
"We don't have to," Caroline says. "Guys, come on."
"I mean, he did kill a lot of people. Isn't he, like, a psychopath? Isn't it weird to live with a murderer?"
"Jason!"
Luke mutters, "I heard he used to cut off people's skin."
"That's true," Jason replies, "My brother has a huge scar from when it happened to him. Boy, I hope he doesn't see that jackass is here..."
Matt-or-Tom finally seems to realize what he's started, frowning as the conversation spirals crazily out of control. It's too late to stop it, though, and so he shuffles his feet and looks apologetically towards Carmina.
Fine. If she can't get around the subject, she's just going to have to tackle it head-on. Even if that sounds really scary. She doesn't think that these guys are going to flip out like the caravan last year did, but she's still a little worried that she might be in for a fight if she says the wrong thing about John.
"I know John used to be a bad guy," she says. "Like, really bad. My dad's got one of those scars, too. But he's not like that any more. All he does nowadays is help my parents with chores and stuff. And he's just like everybody else — he doesn't talk about what happened before the Collapse to me or anybody. So I really don't know anything more than you guys.
She probably knows less than them, honestly, but she's not about to say so and get a brutal lesson in everything John's ever done wrong.
"So he's just... different, now?" Jason asks, frowning unhappily at the church.
"I guess so," Carmina replies with a shrug. She looks over to make sure that John and Jerome are inside, just in case. "He's not... scary, or mean, or anything like that. Just quiet. Kind of... lonely, I guess. Ever since he found out his brother is alive but still crazy, he's been really beat up about it." He's also been literally beaten up over it, but now's not the time to try and make the others feel sorry for him. John would probably be irritated at the idea of a bunch of kids pitying him.
Matt-or-Tom is quick to help her out, which is nice. "She's right," he says. "The Father is still out there in the woods with all those crazies, but John's repented. Dad said he made amends with God, whatever that means. He... uh, still doesn't like us being around him, but when we helped him load the chickens in he seemed okay. Just real quiet."
"That's John, alright," Carmina sighs.
Bean looks seriously disappointed by the news. "You mean he doesn't talk about it at all?" he asks.
"No," Carmina says, snapping for good measure, "And he gets really upset when you ask about it, so don't."
"I'm not gonna go talk to him!" Bean gasps.
The idea that a kid might be scared of John is pretty funny, considering how uncomfortable he is around her, but Carmina's not about to say as much. John probably wouldn't like her sharing a weakness like that with a bunch of strangers, and she wouldn't want them using it against him later.
Flower slowly lifts her hand, looking embarrassed. "Some of the adults in town say the Bliss messed him up. Is that... true?"
Well, at least she's trying to be nice about it. "I dunno," Carmina admits. "He was super weird when he first started living with us, but that might've just been because he was stuck in his bunker for so long."
"Oh, that happened to a guy my dad knows!" Bean supplies helpfully. "Dad calls it bunker shock. Says living underground too long is bad for you when you're all alone!"
"Glad I didn't live in one long enough for that," Luke says. When everyone looks at him, he clams up for a second before continuing on. "A neighbor came up just this year. He's... real weird. I don't like him much. He still sleeps underground, hoping he'll wake up and it'll all be a dream." He scuffs his boot against the dirt, sniffing loudly. "That's what my mom says, anyway. I try not to be around when he comes by."
"He wouldn't be the first adult to be like that," Jason says. He gives the church one last look before nodding his head towards the party. "I mean, that's why we're all the way out here, instead of hanging out around the food. Right?"
"No," Bean replies, "I'm out here 'cos I can't eat another bite! I didn't know you could be this full."
Caroline laughs. "Yeah, the adults have been stockpiling for weeks, it looks like... I guess everyone was really looking forward to it — or, well, I guess that's what it is."
Flower gazes over at the gaggle of adults. Carmina recognizes her dreamy smile from the way her mom looks around the house sometimes, like she's getting a new, better look at the place.
"It feels like things are starting to look up," she says. "Maybe they can all be happier now."
"Hey, don't jinx it!" Tom-or-Matt laughs.
Bean looks around at the rest of them and for a second, Carmina is worried he's going to ask more about John and restart the whole ugly conversation. Thankfully, it looks like he's still a baby, so he's quickly distracted.
"So, what do we do now?" he asks, pushing his too-big glasses up his nose.
Carmina has never actually played with other kids before, so she doesn't have any good suggestions — especially when shooting is off-limits. Thankfully, she isn't the only one. The teenagers don't know where their soccer ball went, and Luke says he doesn't even know what soccer is. Bean says he usually plays word games by himself. When Tom-or-Matt suggests they play something called "capture the flag," it manages to make its way to the top of the list just because Jason and Caroline have both heard of it before.
Well, at least something is better than nothing. The older kids explain how capture the flag works, using Jason's shirt for their team's flag while the other kids band together around Matt-or-Tom's sweaty tank top. Carmina imagines that one of them should sit out for even teams, but the older kids seem confident that they can handle it. Too confident, in Carmina's opinion — maybe they need to be brought down a peg.
Capture the flag turns out to be more fun than Carmina had expected — and a lot harder, too. Trying to outmaneuver the older kids is tough work, but she and Tom-or-Matt figure out how to flank them pretty quick. There's nothing better than the moment when Carmina manages to dive out of the way when Jason tries to tackle her, and even if she gets dog-piled by Flower halfway back to Bean at home base, she holds Jason's shirt up for another teammate to take.
Unfortunately, the game ends without a winner as a sharp whistle pierces the air. Bean looks up and shouts, "That's my dad! I better go!"
He runs off at full tilt without so much as a goodbye, and Carmina has to squint against the setting sun to watch him go. She hadn't realized how late it had gotten.
"I should probably get going, too," Luke says, sweaty and almost smiling for once. "I want to get another plate of food before we go home."
"Ugh," Carmina sighs, "And the chickens need feeding."
"Just make John do it," Matt-or-Tom says, apparently not learning his lesson about mentioning John.
"It's supposed to be my job," she says. "And anyway, he already feeds them in the morning when I don't get up in time."
"They're gonna like him more than you," Tom-or-Matt laughs.
Jason frowns. "He feeds your chickens?"
"I mean... yeah. He does whatever we need him to." Carmina shrugs, glancing back towards the church. She hasn't seen Jerome or John leave — maybe she should go see them before she rounds up her parents? Nah, it's better to leave them alone until the very last minute.
"Just... didn't think you'd let him near livestock, that's all."
"What's he gonna do, poison the eggs?" Carmina huffs. "He's good with them. I think he likes them 'cos they aren't judgey."
Caroline frowns, which tells Carmina she might've been a little rude. But Jason's been rude about John all day, so she's not going to feel sorry about it!
"Well, I guess if your parents trust him..."
"Sure they do," Carmina replies, even if that's not... exactly right. She knows her parents trust John enough to help around the house, but she thinks they only want to trust him with all the other stuff.
"I really better go," she says, pointing towards town.
"Sure," Flower says. "It was nice to meet you, Carmina."
Carmina gives them her best grin, relieved when it's returned from the others. Jason even waves like there's no hard feelings. "It was nice meeting you guys," she says.
"Happy birthday again!" Matt-or-Tom says, "And be careful!"
"Yeah," his brother laughs, "Wouldn't want to have a glowing deer attack you in the outhouse tonight!"
Carmina laughs away the dumb attempt to scare her, waving goodbye before turning to head for the party. Halfway there, she glances over her shoulder and sees the group turned back to one-another in conversation. None of them are looking back, but as she continues on, she's chased by an unfamiliar sense of discomfort. She can't help but wonder if they're still talking about John in the church.... If they're talking about her.
At least she can distract herself while looking for her parents. There are plenty of adults who say hello; some of them even point her helpfully towards her mom's last known location, or towards the table with the cookies her dad really liked. Some of them check in to make sure her birthday has been going well, too, which is nice of them, but a lot of adults are pretty drunk and deep in their own conversations.
She eventually finds her mom and dad standing around a grill with Marjorie, one of the adults in charge around town. Carmina's met her a couple of times. She's nice, but she can talk a lot. There's no telling how long they've been talking for, and if Carmina doesn't interrupt, who knows when they'll finish. While she could probably grab some food for the road, first she has to make sure that they're actually going to be leaving sometime before the next Collapse.
Besides, it looks like her dad's already got a box of leftovers in his hands. If Carmina wants to eat, she's going to have to interrupt.
"Hey dad," she says as she comes up to them, "The chickens are going to need dinner soon."
Her dad grins at her before handing over the squat, open cardboard box. There's chicken, ribs, corn and roasted potatoes, and even a handful of cookies and flatbread; it takes everything in Carmina's power not to make a desperate grab for more food. She doesn't have to worry about going hungry tonight, so there's no need to eat everything put in front of her.
"Here," he tells her, "You take this, alright? My arms are gettin' tired."
Yeah, right. As soon as she takes the box, he uses one of those tired arms to grab one of the ribs. When Carmina frowns suspiciously at him, her dad only shrugs.
"I coughed on it."
"Uh-huh..."
Laughing, her mom reaches out to give Marjorie a hug. It might've run a little long, but her mom obviously enjoyed the talk. "We'll be back in a week or two with the tractor parts," she says. "You're going to get the fields back in shape in no time."
"Already got a good start," Marjorie replies. She shoots Carmina a warm smile. "Happy birthday, by the way! Don't think I got to see you much. Hope those kids weren't giving you a hard time."
"No," Carmina replies., "They're all really nice. We want to practice shooting together, maybe have a contest. Jason said he's better than anybody else."
"I bet you're gonna give him a run for his money!" Marjorie laughs. "Well, the better a shot you are, the better off you'll be. You won't see anybody here stop you kids."
"Yeah, but tonight, I have to feed the chickens," Carmina says, just in case her parents need another chance to get out of here.
"We've got a few other people to say goodbye to," her mom tells her. "Why don't you take the food back to the truck? We'll meet you there."
"Should I get John, too?"
As soon as she asks, Carmina decides she probably shouldn't have brought it up. Too late, though; by the look on Marjorie's face, there's no way to pretend she didn't hear it.
Her dad shrugs. "Probably oughta," he tells her, as if he doesn't see Marjorie staring at them like she is.
Marjorie definitely doesn't like that, judging by the way she squints, but she doesn't say anything about it. "Well, I hope you had a decent enough birthday for once," she says, "Hopefully we'll be having a party around this time every year from now on."
"That would be nice," mom says.
"Just you wait, we're gonna turn this ship around one way or another." Marjorie gestures with her hands and says, "Alright, you better go, before those chickens of yours eat each other."
Carmina frowns. "They don't do that, do they?"
"Uh, let's get moving," her dad says. "See you soon, Marg."
"Take care!"
Her mom and dad have to stop a few more times to say goodbye to people Carmina doesn't know, but she pushes on without them and nobody stops her for more than a quick birthday greeting. She catches sight of Luke packing up some food with his parents, but he's too distracted to notice her. At least she isn't the only one carrying a box of leftovers out of here; it would feel selfish of her if they weren't sending leftovers home with other people.
Her parents haven't caught up with her by the time she reaches the truck, and John is nowhere to be seen. She figures he's probably still in the church — he and Pastor Jerome always take forever when they're talking. They'll probably be there until dad goes in and breaks them up.
Eating by herself in the back of the truck doesn't feel right, especially not within walking distance of the church. Leaving the food tucked in the corner by the cab, Carmina heads for the building herself. Even if nobody was in there, she'd probably go wander inside for a few minutes; it's a comforting, quiet place in the dry, dusty town. But right now, she's pretty sure John is hanging around inside, and he probably hasn't eaten anything all day, either. She should at least let him have first pick.
She knows a lot of the adults dislike the church, but Carmina personally enjoys how its sun-bleached siding stands out against the sky. Besides the house, the church is one of the few places Carmina wishes she could have seen in one piece. She's seen old, faded pictures from ancient newspaper clippings, but it's just not the same.
The doors are open wide enough for Carmina to slip in without a sound. The air inside is cool, almost chilly, and it smells like dirt and grass. From the entrance, there's only a narrow gap keeping Jerome and John out of sight. She doesn't mean to hide, but she doesn't want to interrupt Jerome mid-sentence...
It's too late, she's eavesdropping.
"It might not be much, but it's something," Jerome's saying. "He even stayed a few nights, when the wind got bad and brought too much pollen over the river."
"It would be better for everyone if he stayed here permanently," John replies. "Wallace went further down the path than the rest of them, and they clearly don't know what they're doing."
"They're trying, John. And we don't have a say in the matter. It's got to be his choice. Remember?"
John grunts, clearly annoyed. Carmina doesn't think she's ever heard him say so much before. Does he talk to her mom and dad this much? Is he really only quiet around her?
"I don't like it," John says.
"For what it's worth, neither do I. But Sharky's taking things seriously — they all are. You're going to have to trust them."
"Trust isn't exactly one of my virtues," John grumpily admits.
Jerome chuckles. "You just need practice."
Well, Carmina definitely feels guilty now. She had only been waiting for an opening, but if she waits any longer, she's really going to be breaking John's trust. Pastor Jerome's, too, for that matter.
Thinking on her toes, Carmina pushes on the already open door as though she's just showing up. Of course, the hinges squeal in protest as soon as she does, so she stops before she breaks something.
"Are you guys still in here?" she calls. She's pretty convincing about it, in her opinion.
"Yes, Carmina," Jerome responds, apparently none-the-wiser, "We're here."
John regards her neutrally as she steps into view, but he's always wearing his poker face around her. She needs to get better at reading it.
"I guess it's time to go, then," he says.
"Yeah. Um — I mean, I can meet you back at the truck. Mom and dad will be here soon..."
Jerome speaks up before John can get the chance. "No, you two go on. I think we were just about done ourselves, and I'd like to sit here for a little while, before it gets too dark." He and John shake hands, and then he comes over to give Carmina a hug. "Happy birthday," he tells her. "You be good for another year, alright?"
"I'll try," she says.
"That'a girl," Jerome laughs. "Keep an eye on her, John."
Sometimes, it seems like Jerome is the only adult in Hope County that doesn't think John is a bad influence on her. Even her mom and dad, who are basically the only people on John's side, get uncomfortable if she tries to talk to him too much. But Jerome is a special case. He used to be weird about anything John-related, but nowadays? Honestly, Carmina's pretty sure he's John's only friend at this point — well, okay, other than mom and dad, but they don't count.
John waits until they've left the church to speak. He's chilly and dismissive, as usual.
"How long were you listening for?"
"I wasn't," Carmina begins — but she can't lie to him. Lying only ever makes things worse. So she corrects herself reluctantly and admits, "It was only a minute. I didn't mean to... it just sort of happened."
"Hm."
Normally, Carmina can't get a read on John's poker face, but... huh. She can't help but feel like she might've... hurt his feelings? She definitely wasn't being trustworthy, that's for sure. And now he's trying to casually out-pace her on the walk back to the truck.
"I'm sorry for eavesdropping," she says, picking up her pace to match his. "I promise, I won't do it again."
John glares at her, but she's pretty sure he's not angry. Maybe just confused? She's not sure, he's never looked at her longer than two seconds before.
"I... appreciate it," he replies instead, which makes it the first time he's ever accepted an apology of hers. Usually, he just tells her not to worry about it.
Carmina grins at him, but he's already looked away, so of course he doesn't see it. Instead, he looks to the field, where the three teens from town are still hanging out. Carmina can't tell if they're looking this way or not. She sure hopes they aren't; John would know immediately that they gossiped about him, and she's already messed up with him once today.
"Have you ever played capture the flag?" she asks, hoping to distract him. "The chicken brothers taught us the rules but I think they maybe made some of it up."
John cracks a small smile. Well, Carmina will pretend it's one, anyway.
"The chicken brothers," he repeats.
"You know, Tommy and Matt."
"Do they know that's what you call them?"
"I mean, I've never said it to their faces..."
"That's probably smart."
They reach the truck, which marks the invisible barrier that keeps John out of town. Of course, mom and dad still aren't here. If Carmina climbed up on top of the truck, she might be able to spot them, but it's not like she could get their attention from this far away. So, she's going to have to kill time until they get back.
"Did you eat?" she asks, climbing up into the truck bed.
"I'm fine, Carmina," John replies, a little wearily. Like she's not the first person to bug him about it today — or, maybe like he lacks energy from not eating all day.
She rolls her eyes, but John doesn't see. "Uh-huh." She sits down, pulling the box of food into her lap as she leans back against the cab. "Dad was surprised that there were cookies. Um, not exactly the same, I guess? But still really good." She's not going to give him a chance to turn it down, grabbing one and shoving it in his direction. "Here, try one!"
John, leaning against the side of the truck like he is, is clearly more interested in looking for her parents than humoring her. He definitely looks like he wants to say no. But to her surprise, he actually takes the offered food. It would be weird to stare at him while he eats, so she goes back to debating between a chicken leg or one of the last ribs in the box.
"Not bad," John comments, which is like, crazy, because Carmina definitely isn't goading him into talking.
"They're kind of crumbly," Carmina says, "I dunno if that's what it's supposed to be like. But all the food is really good." She counts the chicken legs out again, just to make sure there's one for each of them. "Um... hey, John? Uh... do chickens eat each other?"
John frowns, chewing the question over with the rest of the cookie. He swallows, then says, "Most animals cannibalize their own if they're desperate enough."
"Oh."
"They would need to be left alone for a lot longer than a few hours," he points out. "Or they would have to be sick. It's more likely a dog will get them before they turn on each other."
Well, at least Carmina can trust John to tell her the truth, even if it's probably not the way her parents would want him to do it. She doesn't even mind him being so blunt about it, either; she's just surprised he's willing to talk to her. She can't help but wonder if this is going to be a normal thing, now that she's ten — is he going to stop being so weird around her? Or is this just a special treat, because of the day? She sure hopes not. It'd be a lot less awkward if John didn't act so scared of her all the time.
Her parents finally join them at the truck. Her mom wrinkles her nose at Carmina sitting in the back again, but she doesn't say anything. Her dad doesn't seem to mind; once he spots the box in Carmina's lap, he reaches over to grab one of the shortbread cookies for himself.
"Sorry about that," he says, "We got held up a couple times. John, you try one of these yet?"
"I did."
"Crazy having home-baked goods again, right?" Her dad waggles the cookie in John's face; John rolls his eyes and circles back around to the tailgate, climbing up into the bed. "Here, Carmina, give me that box so the food doesn't get too cold on the way home."
"You're just gonna eat everything," Carmina objects, handing over the box anyway.
"Nah, come on. Here, you guys grab something for the ride home." He nudges Carmina's shoulder with the box. "You probably worked up an appetite bullying all the older kids out there — and I bet you didn't eat much of anything, either," he adds in John's direction.
"I had a cookie, didn't I?"
"Yeah, I'll bet nobody forced you into it, either."
Carmina grins as her dad winks at her. Her mom rolls her eyes, but doesn't keep dad from bullying John a little. "Grab something so we can get going," she tells John, "And make sure she doesn't stand up once we're in drive."
John reluctantly takes a towel-wrapped ear of corn and a single rib, while Carmina goes right for that piece of chicken she'd been eying from the start. That helps her make peace with sitting safely, at least this one time. Next year, she's definitely going to get to ride in back by herself, she can feel it, and she is going to do it standing up!
As Carmina watches the town shrink behind them, she congratulates herself on another successful birthday. It'd been better than she'd expected — she was a little uncomfortable around so many people at first, but now she's pretty sure she can say she's made some friends? And seeing the town full of food and laughter and music... It had been sort of what Carmina imagines Fall's End used to be like. Her parents probably wouldn't agree, but maybe that's okay. Maybe when she's older, she can try and prove to them that things can be just as good as they used to be — even if it's a different kind of good.

“Drake, seriously?”
“Ooooh fuck. Fuck, this is bad, fuck.” Jason exclaimed, before whispering to himself “I gotta find a way of blaming this on Red Robin, before Batman kills me.” Then it dawned on him “Oh my God he’ll kill me. Kill me!”
Or: Dick gets shot and everyone is freaking out. Inspired by that first car chase scene in 6 underground, where Two has been shot and everything is chaotic.
Warnings: Mentions of injuries, pain and blood. Nothing too graphic, I promise.
Word count: 1532
Notes: So I have a lot of things that I should be doing, but instead of doing those things, I'm back on my bullshit again. I wrote this because I ramdomly remembered my mom laughing about how that scene is ridiculous, because you don't remove a bullet in a situation like that, you just stop the bleeding. Anyways, I thought it'd fill that slot in the bingo card pretty well. I hope you guys like it!
Link for it on AO3, if you prefer it: https://archiveofourown.org/works/25655983
“Ooooh fuck. Fuck, this is bad, fuck.” Jason exclaimed, before whispering to himself “I gotta find a way of blaming this on Red Robin, before Batman kills me.” Then it dawned on him “Oh my God he’ll kill me. Kill me!”
“’s not thaaaat bad.” Dick looked down at the bullet wound in his shoulder.
“This is awful Nightwing, what the fuck are you talking about? You’ve been shot! You’re allowed to panic!”
“Shut up, both of you!” Damian complained “He won’t panic because he’s in shock, and let’s keep it that way.” He scowled at Jason, who was in the front seat “Nightwing, you’re bleeding, but don’t panic, I need you to cooperate with me.”
“I’m bleeding?!” Dick shouted “What the fuck happened?!”
“Way to go Damian.” Tim interviened.
“Fucking drive, Drake.” He turned to Duke, sitting next to them, looking more panicked than usual, and handed him his Robin cape “Here. Put pressure on his shoulder. He will scream. Keep pressing it.” Duke nodded “Listen,” He adressed his oldest brother “You got shot on your right shoulder and passed out after falling and hitting your head on the concrete. You’re awake now, let’s keep it that way.”
Dick shrieked in pain.
“I don’t think you have to worry about me sleeping! Fuck!” He kicked the driver’s seat involuntarily.
“Don’t fucking do that!” Tim yelled.
“Don’t yell at him, he’s in pain!” Jason yelled back.
“Do you fucking want me to crash this fucking car Jason?! Because I will crash this fucking car!”
“Don’t crash the car! It isn’t even ours!” Duke shouted from the back seat. He looked down at the wounded hero “I am so sorry about this.”
“It’s fine-AH!” He said through gritted teeth.
“I’m sure you’ve been through worse.” Damian said, pulling out whatever med equipment he had in his belt.
“Doesn’t make this any easier!” He answered “Fuck!”
“Sorry...”
“Don’t apologize, you’re keeping him alive!” Damian growled back. A shot hit the car, shattering the break lights “Fuck, they’re chasing us! I’ll have to give you stitches here and now Dick. Thomas, is he still bleeding?”
“What?!” All of them yelled.
“Shut up, I can do it! Thomas, answer me damnit!”
“A little, yes, but it’s definetly less.”
Another bullet went through the car, shattering the windshield. Damian groaned.
“Can one of the heroes in the car full of heroes do something about the guys shooting at us!?”
“Stop yelling I’m trying to drive!”
“You can’t drive if you’re dead!” Damian shouted “Red Hood, will you please get out of your fucking ass?!”
“I would, but you wouldn’t like what I’ll do!”
“I don’t care Todd, fucking do something! Thomas, move your hand, I need to stitch him up now!” The boy cut Dick’s uniform, exposing more skin.
“Fine!” Jason stuck his upper body out through the window and shot at the cars chasing them, then pulled himself back in the car “There’s too many, I can’t take them all out alone, you’re gonna have to lose them!”
“Thanks for the fucking tip, Jackass! What do you think I’ve been doing all this fucking time?!” Tim yelled, gripping the steering wheel.
“Stop yelling, I’m trying to fix him!” Damian chastised the duo. Dick screamed. Another bullet zoomed past them.
“Oh my God, I don’t wanna die!” Duke exclaimed.
“Shut up! I’m trying to do a decent suture here! You’re not the one in mortal danger!”
“Oh my God, am I in mortal danger?!” Dick shouted out.
“No!” Damian shouted back “Nobody dies under my watch!”
“Whoah, won’t you take the bullet out?” Jason asked, looking to the backseat over his shoulder. Damian and Tim looked at him as if he was the most disgusting being they had ever laid eyes on.
“Do you actively want your brother to die, Todd?!” He shouted “I’m trying to keep him from bleeding out! The bullet stays in!”
“But won’t it-.”
“It stays in!” Tim and Damian yelled at the same time.
“Fine! I just wanted to help!” He put his hands up.
Dick groaned in pain and punched the car roof.
“If you want to help then be quiet!” Another bullet flew by. They hit a speed bump, and Damian’s hand faltered on the needle, hurting Dick’s skin unnecesarily “Drake, seriously?!”
“I’m trying to stop us from getting killed!” He shouted back “I don’t have the luxury of slowing down for fucking speed bumps at the moment!”
“You’re a lousy driver!”
“You’re a fucking brat!”
“Stop arguing while I’m bleeding to death!”
“You’re not going to die!” Both of them shouted back at Dick.
“Okay, that’s twice in less than twenty minutes.” Duke said “It’s freaking me out.”
“Shut up!” Tim and Damian once again shouted simultaneously.
“Three. So fucked up...” He whispered under his breath.
“Duke, not now.” Dick said, grinding his teeth “Damian don’t you have any painkillers on you?”
“I found some ibuprofen in the glove box. It’s not much but...” Jason said, shaking a medicine box in front of them.
“Oh my God, so now we’re also stealing someone’s meds? Isn’t the car bad enough?” Duke asked.
“Seriously Duke, not now.” Dick said again. Damian reached for the box, shoving three pills in his brother’s mouth.
“Chew them, it speeds up the effects. I hope it helps.” Damian said.
“This is soooo fucked up...” He whispered one more time.
“Shut it, Thomas!” Damian growled, going back to the sutures “I’m almost done.”
“Oh, wait.” Jason said, tapping through his jacket “I have a grenade.”
The car was silent for a moment, before all of them simultaneously screamed some variation of ‘Why didn’t you think of this sooner?’.
“Shut up! I perform poorly under stress!”
“We were trained to perform under stress!” Dick shouted.
“You’re a moron!” Damian screamed.
“That’s why you fucking died!” Tim yelled.
“Low blow, asshat!” Jason pointed at him.
“Please, just throw the grenade!” Duke pleaded.
“Fine!” The Red Hood tossed it at the cars behind them, and the explosions took most of them out, but two cars were still chasing them by the time Damian was done with Dick’s sutures.
“I’m done. Tim stop the car we can handle them.” He said “Signal, I need you to stay back with Nightwing.”
“I’m fine, I can defend myself.” He picked up one of his escrima sticks.
“Fine. But if you tear open those sutures, I’m sticking my finger in the wound out of sheer spite.” He shoved his index finger at his face before kicking open the car door.
...
Bruce sighed.
“I’m gonna need you to walk me through this again.” He pinched the bridge of his nose “You acquired the flashdrive, destroyed the information, started the self destruction count down on their base, and then...” He waited for an answer yet he got four; Jason, Tim, Duke and Damian talked at the same time “Wait!” He yelled, stopping them “Jason. Go.”
“Dick got shot. It was Tim’s fault.”
“How was it my fault? You were the one who set off their alarm system!”
“You set off their alarm system?” Bruce asked, eyes wide with disbelief.
“That’s not the whole story!”
“Then what is the whole story?” He crossed his arms.
“Devilspawn was distracting me.”
“Shut up, Todd. Don’t blame your incompetence on me.”
“You were trying to take the flashdrive away from me!” Jason threw his hands up “Of course I’d trip into their lasers!”
“You wanted to shove it down your pants!” Damian protested.
“Duh? No one would try to get them there.”
“So let me see if I’m getting this...” Bruce interrupted “Jason activated their alarm system after falling on top of their laser sensors because Damian was trying to stop him from putting a flashdrive in his pants?”
“Yes.”
“Correct.”
“Pretty much.”
“He’d shove it into his underwear, father.”
Bruce sighed.
“And why did Dick get shot?”
“They had guns.” Jason said.
“Yes, I understand that.” Bruce stared at him “Why was he in the crossfire?”
“The lights turned off, I couldn’t see where the shooters would be to warn them.” Duke said.
“I see. But, please, enlighten me on the reason why you threw a hand grenade on the middle of the busiest avenue in Gotham.”
“Did you want us to die?!” Tim blurted out “There were over ten cars chasing us, and Dick was bleeding out on the back seat! We should’ve done it earlier.”
“We would have done it earlier,” Damian glared at Jason “If someone wasn’t completly incompetent.”
“I’m gonna strangle you, you little rat.” He muttered.
“Try it, Todd.” The boy pulled out his sword. Jason grabbed his guns. Duke jumped in front of them.
“Okay, okay, I think we’re getting a little too heated.” He said “Look, at least everyone is alive, right? And there were some major damages to the city’s infraestructure, but no civilians were actually killed in the explosion, since they had mostly cleared out the avenue after the chase started.” He had his hands up, trying to keep the peace “I think that’s a win.”
Bruce turned around, meeting Cass, who was eating some colorful candy behind him.
“You’re sending me next time?”
“I’m sending you next time.”

Kingdom Collisions XIV
Masterlist for other parts, more jercy, crackships and bad ideas
writing fic=more description=(hopefully) improve writing
no prewritten chapters=sporadic updates=as surprised as you about what happens
Tell me your thoughts, I'm insecure about this chapter. Also sorry for the long ass wait I haven’t felt in the writing mood but hopefully I'm back.
together or not at all. find him. find him. find him.
Crown Prince Jason’s dream starts as all his dreams do. Him sitting on a cloud looking over a burning meadow. He feels himself wince as if his body already knows its going to be hurt and then he is pulled under, under, under and suddenly the dream is a memory. One he had forgotten about, one he wishes he'll live through for the rest of his life.
"Prince," A soft, warm voice calls. "Are you in here?"
There is a moment of quiet, the crackling of the fire and the turn of the page the only interruptions.
"I'm here." The reply is gentle, and sweet, and full of the brightest days.
Jason blinks, looks through long blonde lashes. "Hello my Ardor"
Leo sinks into the couch, grabbing his hand with the need to be close and comfortable and together. "What are you doing here so late?"
"I had some things to research before tomorrow meeting with FreedomtoFeed."
The Captain of the Guards raises an eyebrow and gives a pointed look to the raunchy cover of the novel he has clasped in his hands. "That looks very appropriate for a feeding-the-people initiative."
He blushes crimson and shuts the book with a huff of embarrassment. "I finished the research."
Leo pulls them together until their foreheads bump gently, "I'm only teasing. But you should go to sleep."
"Will you join me?"
The fingers dancing at the nape of his neck still, and smoldering brown eyes catch his. "Of course."
They release twin breathes and move impossible closer, until lips brush against skin and oxygen is sparse.
"You are so beautiful," The Prince whispers, kissing his jaw. His cheek. Nose. Throat.
"Please kiss me." Leo is shaking with anticipation, arousal.
And who is Jason to refuse such a precious request? He brushes his lips gently across his Ardor's and groans at the softness he finds. Pillows, and peaches, and sweetness that only intensifies when it deepens. Their tongues dance, explore each other languidly. Like time is nothing but a suggestion. His fingers brush silken warm cheeks and dance across Leo's skin until they're resting on his thighs.
Jason is breathless when he breaks away, "You are—" His words are cut off as the Guard pulls their faces together.
"No talking now my Prince. Tonight we only feel."
Jason feels himself frown, as the memory becomes hazy, disjointed. This wasn't how it happened.
‘Together or not at all. find him. find him. find him.” Leo gasps, his head falling on the Prince's shoulder. "Jase, I can't—" He's cut off by a cry.
And suddenly all his beautiful brown skin is turning to ash under Jason's hands. He tries to grab on to anything, any part of Leo, but the more he holds the more ash comes away.
"Ardor?" He cries. This isn't how it happens. This isn't the way it goes. He can't go like this. They can't leave each other. He just got him back.
He can't, he can't, he can't, he c—
Prince Jason Grace wakes up with a scream, blunt finger nails tearing into his chest as he attempts to rid himself of the nightmare. And when his eyes adjust to the world he only knows darkness and despair. The love of his life is still dead and he is still far away from his dear kingdom. Actually he has no idea where he is at all. That thought is the final pick in the ice and suddenly his body is wracking with sobs. His life is a complete fucking mess. And he doesn't want to do this anymore. Every event piles onto his chest like boulders until he can't breathe, until he is hyperventilating.
Far from home; Leo is dead; kidnapped; tortured; his husband is—
Wait where is his husband? The thought shocks him out of his panic so fast he's reeling as he sits up. The cold floor underneath his fingers ground him to the present and he pushes off the concrete onto shaky legs. He feels so weird, like his body is not his own, like he's been forcibly removed from it and shoved into a whole new one and now he has to learn how to be human all over again. He feels like he's died. Slowly he stumbles around until he hits a wall and then plastering his right hand to it he walks. Or more like drags himself along, nails scraping against the brick and a bare shoulder scratching against the roughness.
His eyes are useless for anything further than his feet and he sees no evidence of light. But the room, or what he's beginning to suspect is a hallway, continues so he to keeps going. Someone will fill in all the blanks in his memory but first he has to find his husband. There is a deep chasm in his chest and he has the ugly feeling it will only start filling when he sees those green eyes and floppy curls. It almost disgusts him how much he needs to see the Prince of Mare. It's like his body, his heart, has forgotten about Leo entirely. He feels sick to his stomach at the thought so he banishes everything but the need to get out of here. Suddenly he hits a wall, hard enough that he knows there’ll be a bruise tomorrow. With a silent prayer to gods he didn't care to believe in, he turns his body and keeps walking. Right hand still on the wall.
There is nothing and no-one. He feels likes he's in the inside of a black hole. There is not even the faint sounds of outside. It is just his dragging feet and his cracking nails and the ringing in his ear from the sheer lack of sound.
He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will get out of here. He will—
There's a scraping sound. Someone gives a sharp inhale. A pinprick stings his neck. He is never getting out of here.
together or not at all. find him. find him. find him.
Prince Jason clutches his rolling stomach, and without warning throws up the little contents that may have been in there. Before he even opens his eyes he knows whatever he will see cannot be good. Even behind his eyelids it is unnaturally bright and he can hear hushed whispers coming from somewhere. They sound angry. He will get the brunt of it.
"Well well well," A rapsy voice echoes around him.
He forces his eyes open and blinks back the harsh neon lighting to see Annabeth Chase, his previous kidnapper, and Grover Underwood.
"It's such a pity you don't remember me." She pouts unhappily, but there is nothing but viciousness in her grey eyes.
He wonders what he should remember.
"How do you feel Jason?"
"Like I died. Like I want to get out of here. Like I need to see my husband." He spits at the man leaning against the wall so casually.
"All in due time. But while we have you here I think we could use you."
"Why should I help either of you?" He curls his lip, anger making his vision blur, "You," He points a disgusted finger at the blonde girl, "Kidnapped me and Percy and then proceeded to torture us." She giggles and he wants to bury that sound six feet underground. "And you," He looks to Grover, the advisor to Mare and Percy's friend. He looks every bit the enemy. "I don't trust you one bit. Not if you can have her in your presence so calmly."
"I'm not looking for your trust Prince," The man, the being, scoffs. "I just need your cooperation. Otherwise Annabeth here has permission to get as creative as possible."
Grover tilts his head to her, a silent conversation passing between them, and then he leaves without so much as a glance to him.
"I'll never tell you anything." He growls at her.
She grins, pretty white teeth gleaming in the horrible light. "Let me tell you a story Prince Jason Grace, about the day you lost your sister."
"My who?"
She gives a secret smile and begins.
Twenty seven years ago a girl with blonde hair and grey eyes was born to The King and Queen of Mare. She was a sweet little girl with pigtails and a sharp mind and she kept her parents on their toes every second. One day this little girl's mom came to tell her that she would soon be getting a little sibling to play with and care for. The little girl was undeniably excited, or as excited as you can be when you're three years old and get told you're getting a small person just like you. Needless to say a little boy with blonde hair the exact same shade as hers, and blue eyes as bright as the summer skies was born. While she had eyes the exact shade of her mother’s he had their father’s eyes. And it was dangerous, but nobody knew that then. The little girl loved him immediately and with all her heart. They spent every moment together. Growing up and learning and loving each other as if it was the only natural thing to do. But when the little girl turned eighteen she received some horrible news. Her mother had died. Her brave beautiful mother who gave her kisses and taught her chess and spent hours reading to them. Understandably the family was devasted and they took it very hard. The girl— not so little anymore, grief will do that to a person— was angry and broken and unwilling to listen to the world that had so unfairly taken from her. So she rebelled against their father and lost their mother. And in her quest to feel something she engaged in nefarious, sinful, delightful activities. It was there that she met the love of her life. The Crown Princess of Hekima. Reyna. They got married within a year and have been together ever since. But the girl found out something about her mother's death and she was so furious as she rightfully should be that she renounced her title and vowed to bring down the very thing that killed her beloved mother.
together or not at all. find him. find him. find him.
“You are terrible at telling stories.”
Annabeth smiles like a lion ready to pounce. "Figured out who the little girl is?"
"You." He heaves, chest constricting as he takes her in.
"And her little brother?"
"How come I don't remember you?"
"When we kidnapped you we put a serum in that would make you forget certain aspects of your life." She shrugs as if she's discussing the weather.
"And you feel no remorse for hurting your brother?" He spits at her feet.
Her grey eyes flash like steel and she gets into his face. "I have no family."
"Why tell me at all? Why not just let me be ignorant?"
That makes her smile- no, bare her teeth. "Because unlike me Jason Grace you would do anything for the people you love, for the people you think you owe. No matter the cost."
"I'm not telling you anything." His voice is hard. Like the concrete he is pressed into. Like thunder.
"Nah uh," She grins at him, "I'm your sister remember. You wouldn't deny your sister the information she wants."
"Try me."
It must be a sibling thing because a challenge enters both their eyes and it shines bright enough to dull the horrid neon lighting in the room.
"How do we kill Crown Prince Perseus Jackson?"
He blinks at her. Blinks again. And then he starts laughing. Knee slapping, stomach aching, wheezing kind of laughter. He can't breathe. He can't even see because his eyes are so filled with tears.
"I'm serious." She grinds out.
"How the fuck should I know? We don't discuss ways to kill each other," He rolls his eyes, muttering "Even if we do think about it."
"You must know. You have to know. It is woven into your DNA. You meet each other in every lifetime and die. You have seen it for centuries."
His fading laughter vanishes completely as he whips his head up to look at her. "What?"
"You and Perseus. You guys are immortal deities who appear whenever the world needs to be remade.” Her voice is impatient as if he should know this. As if she’s explaining it to an incompetent child. “You as the healer and him as the destroyer. But people and beings alike have been killing you for centuries because your presence means they will cease to exist. You have watched each other die multiple times. You have revived each other multiple times too."
"So you're saying we're soulmates?" He can hardly believe what he's hearing. It sounds like the biggest load of bullshit he's ever heard.
"No. You're more than that. You aren't just two halves that fit to make a whole. You aren't even two wholes that fit to make a pair. You are each other. You do not exist without him. He does not exist without you. You are not bound by souls or hearts or whatever us humans believe is the epitome of love. You are bound by life."
"I don't believe you." He rolls his eyes. This is garbage. This is nonsense. This is not real.
"I don't really have time to argue with you about it. Just tell me what I need to know and you will be spared."
"Why should I?" He's not even considering it. He would never betray his husband like that. Would never put the Prince in such volatile danger.
"Because if you don't," She gives another of her terrifying grins, "The kingdom you know and love will crumble to nothing."
"You're lying."
"It's already started Jason." She cackles, "The more time you spend with Perseus the more he will bleed into you and you into him. There are already cracks in the castle. Do you really want to risk it?"
His heart is pounding but she is wrong. Isn't she? "I don't believe you." He says again.
"Oh Jase," She gives him a pitying look and he wants to rip her eyes out and toss them in a lake to watch the fish. "The Castle of Caelum is falling to the ground. Your Prince's blood spilled on mom's roses and they crumbled to dust. There are splinters in the stone. They will become chasms. Either you help us or you risk your precious kingdom turning to debris right before you."
"And what's in it for me?"
"You'll be spared from the slaughter of the monarchs."
"And my husband?"
"He will die. This is non negotiable. One of you must, to stop you from fulfilling your fates. We have someone with him right now."
Wrong answer. But he bows his head and pretends to mull it over. Inside his thoughts are whirring like a new machine and plan after plan formulates in his mind.
"Okay Annabeth Chase, my sister," He smiles soft and sweet. She returns it in triumph. "I will join your rebellion. I will tell you how to kill my husband."
And as she picks him up from the floor and removes the invisible ties keeping him pinned to the concrete he allows himself a secret smile of his own. It hints at the malice, the destruction, to come. They made the biggest mistake of their lives when they took him away from the Prince. They will pay.
I'm coming for you Percy.
So Crown Prince Jason Grace loops his arm through his sister's and makes friends with his enemy.
together or not at all. find him. find him. find him.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t really know how I feel about this part. Feels a bit all over the place but at least we’re getting some clarification which is cool. Also are Annabeth and the rebels the good guys or bad guys for wanting to save the world from Jase and Perc? *raises eyebrow curiously*
