Talked with my therapist again and she approved of sebaciel, and generally the proship idea

She said that "all art is a projection of the artist", this doesn't mean that you are immediately a creep deep down. It means that there is a reason we're attracted to the concept of sebaciel. This varies from person to person, but to me it's the safety and comfort the contract and Sebastian's inhumanity provides. To me, him being inhuman is a positive because in my mind, Sebastian becomes a concept and not an adult man. Therefore: safe.

She said that I recognized myself in Ciel, and that his relationship with Sebastian is an issue of protection and consent. Through the contract, Ciel is provided this, without question or room for argument. It's comforting because it was something I was deprived of as a child.

She said "the devil can only affect you if you let it. (From what you're saying), Ciel doesn't let the devil do anything he doesn't want, he has control of the situation, and this is important to you"

We talked about how darkfic and topics helped me cope through difficult times in my life. She said that it was good that I was able to discern and was able to (what she called) "take what you can get and put it to good use". Which meant I used the darkfic I read to protect myself. Although that is not always the case for others.

Even though this is good for ME, it's not good for EVERYONE. Because though it had an overall positive impact on me, some people will be affected by the same thing I'm making/writing/reading negatively. This is why it's important to be careful online. About who to interact with so conflict is avoided. Censorship of the entire thing is something she disagrees with. One of the relevant reasons would be because most of the people interacting with this content were survivors themselves, and like me, someone who didn't have resources, could use to cope with their situation.

You're able to relate to the character and in turn empathize with yourself. It has the effect of bringing you back to reality, away from the numbness. Anyway, Sebaciel to me is a CSA power fantasy where Ciel has autonomy and Sebastian is happily under his collar. Consent reigns king and I hold the reins. Compared to other dark ships I've read about, this might be the most comforting and healing one so far.

I don't understand why Jeankasa is always treated like canon when canon barely gives any evidence

What bothers me the most about Jeankasa is how it is seen as definitively true even though none of the characters acknowledge this to be the case throughout the narrative. The only OFFICIAL evidence of Jean outwardly expressing any sort of interest toward Mikasa is when he comments on her hair when he is 12. TWELVE YEARS OLD. I'm not sure why this is something he has never been able to outgrow considering he was an actual child when he did it. The only other time that he openly addresses this supposed crush he had was during the attack on Trost when he remarks not getting the chance to 'tell her how I feel'.

Now, I'm not saying that someone is wrong for shipping Jeankasa. Go ahead and ship whatever you would like! But it gets frustrating to see how much it is just assumed to be canon even though outside of these two events (which take place within the first few episodes of season 1 out of 4) nothing that Jean does afterward is unique to Mikasa. He is shown on multiple occasions to care about all of his comrades. He is very much a protector on the battlefield, which is part of what makes leadership suit him so well. However, he doesn't pay special attention to Mikasa or seem to care about her more than anyone else.

In fact, he rarely speaks with her throughout the narrative. When it comes to EMA, I would believe that its a bit of a tie between Armin and Eren for who Jean engages in dialogue more, but Mikasa is toward the bottom of most of the main cast in terms of communicating with him. That's what really boggles my mind so much. They truly barely acknowledge each other throughout the entire story but for some reason, it has to be that Jean is constantly hung up on her throughout the years. Hung up on a childhood crush he seemingly had.

This feeds into my overall complaint regarding Jean's treatment within fandom which is that no one allows him to grow up even though he not only does this throughout the story but does so IMMENSELY well. But, that's a whole other can of worms that I'll have to open later.

so as i keep rotating these thoughts around i thiiink it's the fact that, yknow, theyre so similar. like i honestly truly think they could be besties in another universe: a kinder universe where taigen was not taught to hate. a universe where mizu was not born a girl in a deeply misogynistic society or half-white in a xenophobic homogeneous society.

yeah now that i think about it that really just might be THE secret sauce!!! like the fact that they COULD be perfect and happy together, if only things were different, if only they werent themselves.

smth v bittersweet about that's just driving me insane and makes me want to root for them to overcome all those obstacles, to say "fuck all that" (re:the world and all its fucked up shit) and find each other in the end. to eventually become each other's fav person and confidant. who obv still bicker and tease and insult each other all the time but they dont really mean any of it and over time it just becomes a running gag between them and no one else has to get it because it's just between the two of them.

I always feel mildly bemused when I read people post about stuff like systemic sexism in fandoms, particularly things like about how people complain more about female characters but ignore male characters with similar faults, or the fandoms loving gay ships but not making as much fanworks for lesbian ones.

Part of this is just because I like female characters (despite being male, I tend to prefer things with female leads etc) and I'm not that involved in a lot of fandom arguments nor do I read a lot of shipfics, so I only hear about a lot of the sexism when people complain about it. Which is kind of funny to me in the fact it must exist, but I'm just conveniently shielded from it.

The other reason is some of my earliest fandoms I got involved in were female-majority casts, so most people do ship the women. Like, I think Equestria Daily once put out an apology after they posted a Braeburn m/m fic (admittedly, the outrage from the bronies back then in 2012 or whenever was probably out of homophobia, which isn't nice either, but the point still stands that they were no issues with w/w shipfics and to this day they are the vast, vast majority of shipping fics (mostly because once you've shipped Braeburn, Sorin' and Big Mac together there aren't that many other guys left to ship, but nonetheless)). Or like Barbie with its vastly superior chemistry between the joint female leads over the threadbare male love interest they've thrown in. Even when the male leads are good, it's popular to ship the girls.

I don't think I have anything substantial to say. I just don't understand the issues other men (or indeed women) have with female characters (and women and femininity in general) (I mean I do understand I just find it bizarre it when like a friend of mine once said he wasn't really interested in stories with female leads. I don't know, maybe read more books with better female protags? I have a bookshelf's worth if you want suggestions) (also like when people suggest there needs to be more talk about good female characters like, most of my favourites are already females and I will gladly talk about them till the cows come home). But also that's just me.

Also I kind of do like m/m ships a fraction more but that's like 90% because I'm bi and so, you know, I like seeing guys together because I kind of would like to get together with a guy if the opportunity arose. But I mean other than that they're just ships. Like sure there can be a different vibe or flavour to w/w or m/m or straight ships, but I mean if they're good characters why should my interest depend on their genders? I read things to experience the lives of others, I don't want to just see stories that match my experience. And sometimes I empathise most with the female characters so like, you need to approach characters with an open mind. I don't know.

OK I'm rambling now. I think I made my point. I'm not sure what it was anymore but I guess it's that women in fiction are cool and I don't know what everyone else's problem is.
