How Do Xie Lian's (Immortal) Cursed Shackles Work?

That is what we're going to answer today, folks. (This is all guesswork and head cannons) Starting off: Xie Lian's shackle grants him immortality, we know that much. We know that it cannot be taken off and that it allows the person wearing it to heal from both major and minor injuries. But that raises three questions: 1) How does Xie Lian's time in the coffin work?

2) How is it powered? 3) What would happen if he got beheaded/Can he get beheaded? - Ok, so to answer question one, we need to do question two. How is it powered? Well, I have a theory. Jun Wu is the one who placed the shackle on him, and it takes spiritual power to put it on... so what if immortality is granted using spiritual power? Let's assume it's more efficient for Jun Wu to use the recipient's spiritual power; especially Xie Lian's considering he has a LOT of it (It's not taken, it only makes it so that Xie Lian cannot access it)! That also answers the question of how Xie Lian's time in the coffin happened considering he can't produce blood that well (look into how blood is made to understand that better, but I'm using 7th grade science here)! Whether it uses Jun Wu or Xie Lian's power is up for debate, but I'll say Xie Lian's just because I think that's something Jun Wu would do. So. What about number three..?

Well, let's see. Based on arbitrary facts in both fics and canon, we can assume that Xie Lian heals from death using regenerative properties. (see being trampled, stabbed, and the coffin) So if he gets beheaded, would that make it so that he clones himself? Does he grow his head back? As fun as it would be to have Xie Lian look at his own beheaded head, to stop any questions and logistics from happening, I'm just going to say he CAN'T be beheaded. Why? Well, first: Cursed shackles are shackles. They are spiritual shackles that make magic. If Xie Lian were to get cut there in the neck, the object would have to cut through that shackle. Which... won't be easy, that's for sure. Jun Wu totally made sure that those things were UNBREAKABLE just in case! And because Xie Lian also has abysmal luck and would probably get cut right above or below, causing him to die... Well, if the head was close enough, I think it would like... attract like a magnet and reattach, you know? But since this accounts for everything, we need to consider what would happen if it was like 10 feet away. WOULD IT BE PLAUSIBLE FOR XIE LIAN TO GET BEHEADED?! Short Answer: Depends on your purposes. For angst, make it so he can. Otherwise, your choice. For the angst, it would be super traumatizing to see your own head dripping blood and having matted hair right in front of you + identity crisis + flashbacks + since it's him he'd probably wonder if he deserved it. --- Writing this while I'm supposed to be sleeping so I'll end it here and edit it tomorrow.

So, Danny and Jason have been fake dating for a while now, and ended up marrying each other solely for tax benefits. Also, they got cool ass fucking friendship rings that they just couldn't not wear everywhere and being married is convenient so...

Anywho, so Jason has met Danny's parents but Danny hasn't met Jason's parents. Danny knows that he has some ties with the vigilantee scene due to being a Crime Lord-he still doesn't know what to think of his parents connecting the dots immediately when they only met him once while it took him more than that while living with the guy.

He thinks Jason may have been an ex-vigilantee at some point before turning to crime.

Then Danny gets blinded by rich people aura when he finds out that his bestfriend is the long thought dead child of Bruce Wayne. Frankly, he's insulted.

You mean to tell him that his could've been buying ice cream from that high class place all this time!? He shook (literally he grabbed and shook him) that point into Jason, he doesn't care that Jason never told him he was rich but he could've at least bought some high class ice cream once in a while.

Jason who was busy solidifying his power as a crime lord, avoiding his family and making sure not to leak his identity at all: I'm a literal crime lord, and the only thing you care about is me not buying you ice cream?

Danny: YES!!!!

Jason: Dork.

Right anyways, so Jason takes Danny along to meet Bruce and his fam but did say as soon as he started being uncomfortable they're leaving. The batfam is a bit blindsided by Danny, because they thought Jason was bringing his partner but its good to also get a feel for Danny's personality.

Danny and Jason did what's normal for them when Danny starts getting comfortable around the manor full of things that cost waaay more than his rent. Like half-heartedly insulting each other, being snarky, leaning on each other and other such things.

The batfam start thinking that there's more there than they know of. So they start watching a bit closer and ask a few round about questions that fly over Danny and Jason's heads. They just forget they're married often, unless it's regarding taxes.

All of this sends the wrong message when they walk into the same room and, being nosy, one of the batfam comes up to the door and uh. They hear the bed moving quite a lot.

So.

Meanwhile, Jason is trying to wrestle with Danny because this man does not pick a lane. He'll either be the human octopus (who is cold as hell) Jason has ever seen, he'll try to kick him off the bed in his sleep as if Jason personally offended him in some way, or he'll sleep in some wacky position that interrupts Jason's sleep. The last one is tied to the other two, however.

So, Jason has to frequently wrestle this man into a proper position where they both manage to get some sleep and it wouldn't have been so bad if Danny wasn't a goddamn sleep fighter. He would know, he had to nurse a bruised jaw for a few weeks.

Why do they sleep together? Listen, when you're in an apartment with not a lot of money, you gotta cut costs where you can alright?

Polygun but it’s how they all see each other

i always really like in books with different narrators when how a character looks itself is unreliable narration bc they describe themself differently compared to how the other pov characters see them, and the dungeon meshi shapeshifter chart scratched that itch for me art wise and I got inspired ✨

To be more specific this is what they each picture when they think of each person 👉👈

Meryl clothing details aside because I think she’s just short and the boys aren’t looking at her traveling clothes too hard (and vash clearly likes making his own clothes with how much his overly intricate jacket design changes so ofc his version of her outfit just looks like another one of his designs 🙄) all of the clothes are based on specific parts of the manga!

A big thing with these designs was taking moments that were important regarding each characters relationship with the pov character and adding in visual nods to that to show what memories stuck with them to shape their image of that person.

The clearest example of this is everyone thinking of a different Vash coat, for Wolfwood it’s what he was wearing when he turned him over to Knives, to Meryl it’s his final fight coat, and for Milly it’s when she met him.

It may be Trimax but I will always have a soft spot for 98 millywood so those two’s impression of each other has been influenced by that, but more specifically just the idea of them both alone together, layers and walls down, hair messy from sleep. Their relationship is one I just see very clearly developing over a lot of late nights at inns and bars during traveling!

Vash is the trademarked inventor of Savior Martyr Victim complex supreme and when he thinks of everyone he sees times they’ve been let down by him. To me he’s the biggest broken gear in their dynamic because of the way he holds himself back and isolates, the ship really works in spite of him most of the time. But he also sees traces of times his desire to be by their side was cemented. His Meryl is heavily based on after she was kidnapped by the GHGs and he lost control in front of her, but her hair is longer + earrings are gone like when they saw each other again after Knives released the ark, and she has a black turtleneck peaking out from under her traveling clothes the way it did under her space suit during the final battle. His Milly has the hair and undershirt of the final battle but her outer clothes are from when they traveled together for the majority of Trimax. His wolfwood isn’t doing too well.

Meryl’s versions of Milly and Wolfwood are both pretty similar to how they looked when she first met them, wolfwoods hair is just a little longer like I imagine it being towards the end of Trimax and is very windswept, from their short first meeting in the original Trigun manga run I always got the impression she thought he looked very cool lol, she was staring up at him like ://0 the whole chapter.

I mentioned it before but honestly most of Wolfwood’s Vash is based on how he looked when he turned him over to Knives, not only do I think that moment stuck with him but I feel like it’s a good visual summary of all the mixed feelings he has towards Vash. He’s drawn to him and sees how sad he his but he also sees how inhuman he is and the threat he and knives pose for the people he cares about and prioritizes. At the end of the day Wolfwood chose the orphans over Vash twice and never went back on that, and a big part of why he broke Vash our of Knives prison was just so he could go fight Knives to the death for humanity’s sake, and I think that’s important to his character and their relationship.

Similarly, Meryl’s Vash is really just final arc Vash. She’d already developed a very strong impression of him before then but they would go weeks to even years without seeing each other and each time the way he looked and the way she felt about him would change drastically, it seemed to me like it wasn’t till she was on the ship advocating for him and the people living on gunsmoke that she knew how she felt about him and what kind of person she saw him to be. It was also a huge moment for her character wise with the way she faced her fears in the name of human connection and made the active choice to not be as apathetic and closed off as she realized she had been in the early manga.

I think Milly’s first impression of Vash was strong and accurate enough to not change much, this nice guy is Vash the Stampede and there is definitely something weird about him.

I don’t know why Wolfwood doesn’t know what Meryl’s hair looks like, what’s wrong with that guy? In general his version of Meryl is very inaccurate now that I’m looking at it, I promise he likes her

C’mon girl accessorize properly)

always kind of frustrated that the conversation around gendered segregation in sports is sort of dismissed as "well men can't handle losing to women" and it's never deconstructed further like. the elephant in the room is that institutionally it serves a purpose of functionally cosigning women to lesser treatment because of deep, deep, deep misogyny. it's not just pay, though that's the most obvious surface-level marker of inequality, but the time, effort, and support. funding, access to facilities, coaches, safety on the job (if the woman's game is even a viable professional career! if leagues even exist!) that's what support means here. the reason women do not "perform as well as men" is because of fundamental structural inequality. often, the game is decades behind. think about like... what someone playing for the chelsea woman's team could accomplish if she had access to the same salary, coaching staff, and training ground. like its important to consistently bring this up because it directly challenges the idea that "women's sports" are uniformly materially beneficial and even need "protecting" in the first place (protecting, of course, being a word which is all about weakness and coddling womanhood).

The kids might not want to admit it, but they are all like Bruce in one way or another.

Dick tries his hardest to separate himself from Bruce while wearing the cowl, but when the crime is serious, his mouth goes stiff in a line, and a crease appears between his eyebrows. His siblings turn away.

Jason will argue the most vehemently hes not like his father. But he taps his fingers when hes trying to crack a case and his defensive stance is mirror to Bruce’s from behind to the point where Dick once hugged him when he was still the Red Hood and went “hey B!” Jason was so panicked he disappeared without even a rude word and Dick never mentioned it again, so embarrassed he had mistaken the crime lord for his father.

Tim invents different ticks to avoid Bruce’s, but he still cups his chin when hes thinking hard and bits his lip just like Bruce. Alfred smiles when delivers him coffee and Tim takes it with a noncommittal grunt, sipping it with one hand while fiddling with a pen in the other.

Cass copies Bruce’s movements and actions purposefully.

Steph wants to distance herself as much as possible from Bruce, but when she gets hurt she adapts his same face and mannerism. Its a direct cue to any of the batkids that shes really hurt and they wont leave her until she gets medical attention

Damian has his fathers sharp chin and nose, and copies his fighting techniques almost identically because he knows its perfection and he wants to be perfection. Bruce hugs him.

Barbara’s concentrated face is the same as Bruce’s, whether she knows it or not.

They all mimic the man that is such a big part of their lives and when Alfred points it out to the man, because with his self hatred he never looks for it or notices, it always makes him feel warm inside
