Their interactions felt safe and dull, and she didn't know how to turn her feelings for him into love. But she was flattered by his attentions, and being with him was better than being alone. So she dutifully dated him, and she tolerated his kisses, and it all meant very little to her. She always hoped that something he said or did would create a spark in her, but everything continued on the same dreary plane.

THIS THIS THIS. I want to add that certain PR blogs are convinced he doesn't date younger and much younger but when did he say he cares about the age gap, he literally said “I just want a woman/partner with a good soul and everything else (meaning: age, race, religion, etc.) is negotiable” so, why those people keep twisting his words and deciding for him?? 😩 as long as she's a kind soul who loves him and he loves her, things like the age gap are nothing and none of our business tbh. Plus when we become adults, it becomes insignificant. ////
Exactly. See Jason Statham and his wife who have the same age gap (if not bigger) of Abba and Chris. Now it's been years they're together but not a single soul questions them because they're real and private and they genuinely LOVE and care for eachother, we had a glimpse of them together on the Rome red carpet this year: his wife came to see his husband at the premiere or Jason himself brought her with him. Another nice couple but unfortunately they split up bec of work, is Colin Farrel and his partner who had an even bigger age gap but if you see old pics of them together you can see they genuinely loved eachother and we haven't much pics cause she's not famous and they were private. There are tons of couple with big and huge age gaps who were/are never questioned because they're real and private, so there's no need to question them like we do with Abba and Chris which he(Chris) never showed to care about "his wife", not even saying her name.
I agree with everything you just said.
The vague mentions of her, "My wife is from Portugal. Go, Portugal" are literally red flags. Along with the MANY pap walks.
They're all red flags to indicating and seriously screaming at us, that they are most definitely not private.
Those couples mentioned by An🫶n here, are the perfect examples of Private Couples. And, might I add, some brief representations of true love...
Something that our dear Cocker Spaniel and Ebola Baptism, just don't have.

I had a realization of why I'm so against RG.
Oscar fans ship rosegarden.
Ruby fans don't.
Because RG as a pairing exists for the sole benefit of Oscar, Ruby doesn't get anything out of it. That's why everything about the pairing is Oscar-centric. Nothing in the ship is equal. Ruby does all the heavy lifting, and only Oscar benefits. Rg fans operate under the belief that Oscar benefits Ruby just by existing, his presence is a gift. Oscar has a crush, and that means that Ruby should date him, he's earned it. But she doesn't truly get anything of value out of it.
Just like with Summer or Winter in relation to Hummingbird or Snowbird, the most important aspect of the pairing is how one half of the ship, Qrow, is benefiting or developing. Or rewarding them for good behavior or character development. While the other half is more or less an accessory in service to the focus character. Or a trophy.
This is why Ruby's feelings, or more specifically her lack of romantic feelings or interest is never brought up. Because her feelings in regards to the ship, and her character largely isn't really a factor. She's just there for Oscar to admire, or pine for, or get comforted by. If rg fans actually cared about Ruby's feelings, they wouldn't push it so hard, because Ruby has no romantic interest in Ozcar. Ruby has no romantic interest in anybody, least of all Ozcar.
But at its core, the ship isn't for Ruby's sake. So of course I would be against it, Ruby is in my top three RWBY characters. While I'm very lukewarm on Oscar as a character. I've long believed that Ruby doesn't need a romance. But if she was to get one, I'd obviously prefer a well-developed pairing between two equals with good rapport & chemistry where both participants mutually benefit. Not rosegarden. Rosegarden is an Oscar ship, not a Ruby ship. That's always been the case.

I'm gonna say it right now, I really don't like Jane with Richie. I don't know it just seems so overly cliche. I know the series may be wanting to mirror Sandy and Danny from original Grease but I find a whole lot of awkward. Especially since Jane and Olivia have this natural chemistry, when to me anyway Jane and Richie's inactions feel forced. And unless their being made to inact there really isn't any chemistry between the two. Sometimes I wish a series wouldn't go in with a set narrative of this person going to be with is person. Or this character going to be straight period. Then chemistry happens bewteen two characters that everyone sees and wouldn't be upset if those characters were put together. But the series is so dead set on that narrative they decided on they won't even consider anything else. It would be wonderful if Rise of the Pink Ladies was different, I'll be pleasantly if it is. But im not going to hold breath. Instead I'm going to have to be annoyed by forced romance that's painful awkward to watch.

S10 E10: The Serpent Within
This was really an all-time low. What were they thinking while writing this? Are we really supposed to believe that to investigate the accusations against Sullivan they will sent in the officer Sullivan is due to testify against? Really?
And Sullivan saying “There’s no way she would have exposed herself to such a risk if I wasn’t cooped up in here”. Seriously? Mrs Devine has done nothing but meddle in every investigation regardless of who was the suspect/in jail. Every opportunity needs to be taken in order to demonstrate her fabulous (#cough#cough#) acting capacities (merely consisting of exaggerated facial expressions). This time it was not different with reviving her Adelaide from Guys and Dolls (whilst there was no reason to dress up, she still insisted) claiming to pass on as early 30s (early 50s is more like it). And even when Father Brown warns them and insists they’d be careful all Mrs Devine can say is “This is going to be so much fun”. She is a delusional, self-centred airhead.
If Sullivan is to be with a woman, she should be a classy, sophisticated, educated beautiful lady who will intrigue him and keep him guessing for a while whether he has her interest or not and make him chase after her. So the complete opposite of Mrs Devine. Her chasing after/hitting on Sullivan because she is in dire need of a ‘knight in shining armour’ is cringe worthy. With forcing Mrs Devine on Sullivan writers have completely ruined his return. If this is the hill the BBC-Father Brown-writers wish to die on, than they can do so without me. As far as I’m concerned the Father Brown saga ended with episode 10 of season 9 because I cannot watch a murder mystery if I have to be on guard all the time to mute/fast forward horrible romance scenes.

There's wholesome ships and there's toxic ships, but I'd like to coin 'sodium chloride ships', where the individuals involved are both horrible and dangerous people, but somehow being together renders them surprisingly well-adjusted (if a little salty).

people who for very silly reasons want to market prepared food products without preservatives in them who then discover why we started putting preservatives in prepared food products in the first place (because without a preservation method food quickly grows stale, and frequently also moldy or downright toxic) is a consistently good bit. like people really seem to think we put Evil Chemicals in food on purpose for no reason.

look, I know I've talked about this essay (?) before but like,
If you ever needed a good demonstration of the quote "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic", have I got an exercise for you.
Somebody made a small article explaining the basics of atomic theory but it's written in Anglish. Anglish is basically a made-up version of English where they remove any elements (words, prefixes, etc) that were originally borrowed from romance languages like french and latin, as well as greek and other foreign loanwords, keeping only those of germanic origin.
What happens is an english which is for the most part intelligible, but since a lot everyday english, and especially the scientific vocabulary, has has heavy latin and greek influence, they have to make up new words from the existing germanic-english vocabulary. For me it kind of reads super viking-ey.
Anyway when you read this article on atomic theory, in Anglish called Uncleftish Beholding, you get this text which kind of reads like a fantasy novel. Like in my mind it feels like it recontextualizes advanced scientific concepts to explain it to a viking audience from ancient times.
Even though you're familiar with the scientific ideas, because it bypasses the normal language we use for these concepts, you get a chance to examine these ideas as if you were a visitor from another civilization - and guess what, it does feel like it's about magic. It has a mythical quality to it, like it feels like a book about magic written during viking times. For me this has the same vibe as reading deep magic lore from a Robert Jordan book.
