Shapesmith went stiff, a blush rapidly spreading across their face. A small squeak escaped at the same time, and the Martian stared down unblinkingly at his partner, breathing deeply and heavily.

"Too much?" Ky asked, unable to help the dopey smile that grew on their face. "Yeah, probably too much at once."

Shapesmith continued to stand still.

"Rus?" Ky questioned, the smile slowly dropping from their face. They raised a hand up, snapping their fingers a few times in front of his face. "Hello, Earth to Rus?"

No reaction, just more heavy breathing as they stayed rooted to the spot.

"Uh oh," A voice called out from the corner of the room, "looks like someone's caught a bad case of the love shock!"

Ky whipped around to face the source of the voice. "What the- Ian?! What are you doing in here?!" They demanded, before they covered their nose as a foul stench hit them. "And what is that smell?!"

"Returning the child, first of all." Ian replied, and Nikki peeked her head out from her mentor's cape, waving with a smile. She still wore her usual green beanie, but now wore a set of light grey robes instead of her typical set of clothes. "And the smell? Well, I wouldn't worry! Great Old One innards are surprisingly easy to wash out!" He hand-waved, seeming to not care that he and Nikki were both splattered with large swathes of a sticky tar-like substance.

"...right." Ky slowly accepted. "Nikki, get a shower." They told the young girl, who nodded and walked away. "And Ian? You stink, please leave."

"That's hurtful, but also understandable." Ian conceded, yellow sparks beginning to form a circle at his feet. "I'll pick her up again next Saturday, okay?"

"Sure."

"Until next time, then. Buh-bye!" He wished, vanishing soon after as the sparks enveloped him completely.

Shapesmith, in all this time, had stayed still. "You... mean that?" They finally spoke up, eking out the question under his breath.

"Hmm?" Ky turned, caught off-guard by the question. "Of course I mean it, Rus. I always mean it."

Shapesmith looked like they were about to cry. In fact, from the way that they were tearing up, Ky was fairly certain that they were actually going to. And they did, bawling in sheer happiness. "That is- that is so- so awesome!" He smiled through the tears, wiping with the crook of their finger. “So awesome!”

“Well, maybe not too much after all!”

Been getting a bit back into Invincible stuff lately, especially what with Season 2 coming, and I remembered Nikki - the homeless girl whom Martian Man was friends with (and possibly living with?). And I still feel really bad about her honestly.

She's a pretty minor question but her role is both very tragic and also kinda raises several questions.

For one thing; why didn't Martian Man seemingly do anything for her? At least get her to social services or try to arrange some proper housing for her other than a condemned building. Is it due to lack of understanding of earth/humans due to being Martian? Or did he try but wasn't able to do anything?

There is probably an argument to be made that pulling strings for Nikki's sake would be too attention-drawing. People might notice this random homeless girl has some important connections and so keep an eye on her and might connect her to Martian Man.

She at least seemed to be still alive and getting food from the soup kitchen last she appeared. But still... given several other Guardians were shown with loved ones in the montage, it does give the implication that they were quite close, possibly even some kind of parental figure.

Given she's still homeless after his death and is never mentioned by others and also didn't appear to attend the funeral, it does give the impression as well that others are unaware of all. Although even if Martian Man did mention he was friends with a homeless kid; that's probably a fairly vague statement to go on and it'd probably be difficult tracking her down specifically.

But this means that while the families of the other guardians at least got to attend the funeral as a potential form of closure, and also could even possibly use one another for emotion support or appeal to the GDA for assistance... Nikki got none of those options or possibilities.

She's lost someone close to her and she doesn't appear to even have anyone to confide in or watch out for her; few would believe her if she tried discussing her feelings about Martian Man's death and even if they did it would only bring dangerous attention onto her.

Just a shitty situation all round for her and I kind of hope Season 2 shows she's continuing to at least do okay. Haven't read the comic (although I might) but from what I've seen it doesn't appear she was a comic character so I guess her fate's up to the show writers (assuming they choose to show her again anyway).

i have been told that mark’s canon bday is jan 22 and that makes him an aquarius so when they met it’s just: “i am aquarus, a pleasure to meet you young man.” and mark just goes “oh! aquarius, i am too!”

one time he gifted mark a really big pearl and debbie had to make mark refuse it cause it’s super expensive and he technically has no use for it (aquarus came back next week with a dozen smaller pearls but each of them as just as pretty,,,, and without debbie knowing,,,, “such a sweet boy has the heart of a prince, he deserves to keep something beautiful in his room”)

who needs swimming lessons when he’s around? that’s a joke aquarus wasn’t a good swimming coach but he visits sessions to gives mark thumbs-up underwater when they’re doing the breathing exercises

martian man is probably one of the gotg members that’s amazing with kids (hi nikki, sweetie i hope you’re alright omg)

he’s stern and doesn’t easily give in to mark’s puppy eyes – if mark won’t listen to debbie or nolan, one call from him is enough (and he’s not stern in the mean or intimidating way either, it’s the best mix of gentle yet firm)

You stared at Heather and Tommy who were at the end of the isle. Heather dressed in a big white dress, and Tommy in front of her in a tux. “I now pronounce you.. husband and—” before he even finished Tommy kissed Heather making everyone laugh. You turned to Nikki who was slumped down right next to you asleep. What a great best man.. you thought hitting his chest to wake up.

He jumped up and started looking at his surroundings realizing where he was. As he started clapping before Tommy and Heather left Tommy wanted a picture of all the guys together. You stood next to the photographer as Tommy motioned for Nikki to come closer.

Then it all hit you.. everyone’s somewhat has their life together. Micks always been great, as well as Vince even though Sharise left him he still had a beautiful daughter. But Nikki, was on another planet. He was gone out of his mind barely able to keep his eyes open and stay standing.

You love Nikki you really do, but do you want to throw your life away because of him? Throw away your future? Your dream of having a fairytale wedding and life, but you can’t do that with Nikki. If Nikki doesn’t straighten this up he’s gonna pass out before you even get to the weeding cake.

Nikki sighed looking out the window, “we could’ve stayed if you really wanted..” Nikki slurred out as you started pulling up to Nikki’s driveway. “Yeah so you could ruin their wedding.” Nikki picked his head up. “They wouldn’t have even met if it wasn’t for me.” You rolled your eyes, “what ever you say Nikki..”

Nikki opened the car door but before he even got out he fell. You groaned walking to help him up. You got him up and he soon almost fell again. You put his arm on your shoulder to hold onto you. You opened his door and threw him on the couch.

You looked at Nikki who was trying to grab an old beer bottle from his coffee table only to find out it’s empty making him groan. You noticed all the needles and beer bottles their were. “Nikki I can’t do this.” He looked back at you “I’m not telling you to drink.”

You rolled your eyes “No shit, I’m saying I can’t be with you.” Nikki rolled his eyes “come on you love me..” he slurred out laying down. “I do love you very much. But I can’t do this.. why wont even talk about marriage. We’ve been together for four years..” You got on the floor to make eye contact with him.

After the Fall

Akihiro Yamauchi, one of Japan’s top volleyball players, had always felt invincible on the court. His towering height and powerful spikes made him a force to be reckoned with, and his disciplined training regimen had taken him to the pinnacle of his sport. But no amount of training could have prepared him for the catastrophe that struck one ordinary afternoon.

He had been in a high-rise building in Tokyo, preparing for a charity event, when the ground beneath him began to shake violently. The earthquake hit with a ferocity that left no time for reaction. The building swayed dangerously, and in an instant, the world around him collapsed into chaos. Walls crumbled, floors gave way, and the ceiling above him caved in, plunging him into darkness.

When Akihiro regained consciousness, he found himself pinned under a heavy beam, his leg trapped and throbbing with pain. The air was thick with dust, making it hard to breathe. He tried to move, but the pain was excruciating, forcing him to stay still.

As he struggled to stay conscious, he heard a faint voice nearby. “Hello? Is anyone there?” It was a woman’s voice, weak and trembling, but alive.

“Over here,” Akihiro called out, his voice hoarse from the dust. “I’m here.”

The sound of shifting rubble followed, and soon, a young woman emerged from the darkness, crawling toward him. Her clothes were torn, and she had a gash on her forehead, but her eyes were filled with determination.

“I’m Nikki,” she said, trying to catch her breath. “Are you hurt?”

“My leg,” Akihiro replied, wincing. “It’s stuck under this beam. I can’t move.”

Nikki assessed the situation, her hands shaking as she tried to push the beam off him. It wouldn’t budge. “It’s too heavy. I’ll… I’ll try to find help.”

But as she looked around, it became clear that they were both trapped under tons of debris. The building had collapsed around them, leaving them in a pocket of space with no easy way out.

Nikki’s face paled, but she forced herself to stay calm. “Okay, we’ll just have to wait. Someone will come for us. We just need to hang on.”

Hours passed, each one stretching into what felt like an eternity. The two of them spoke in low, careful voices, trying to keep each other awake and alert. They shared stories, their fears, and their hopes for rescue. Akihiro told her about his volleyball career, about the thrill of winning and the pressure of being at the top. Where and when were you born?

“Even when I was born, the war was already going, although it was not as close to our home. It has been many years ago, and on Tamaran, in the house of my parents.”

“Waefore was my father, he was a known and very respected warrior. Lirfore was my mother, and she was… I think housewife is how you call it on Earth? She did not do a ‘job’.”

“It is not common for tamaraneans to have siblings. I, like many else, am an only child.”

“I live in the castle, along with many guards and servants. But they are not truly living with me, so I would say that I live alone. The castle is very tall, with many rooms and floors. The most beautiful part of our castle is the tree that brings life. It grows within the center of the castle, and whenever it reaches the height of another floor, that part of the ground gets removed so that our tree can continue to grow.”

“I am currently the Grand Ruler of Tamaran.”

My right eye is scarred and not well-functioning anymore, I have green eyes and orange skin. I am commonly wearing tamaranean uniforms.”

“I am currently the Grand Ruler, so I assume it is a high class.”

“I used to have an allergy against metallic chromium, but I must have desensitized myself towards it eventually. And my right eye is not working well, which I would very clearly define as physical weakness as well.”

“Outside of the normal arguing, I did not have any difficulties with my parents.”

“It is normal on Tamaran to 'kiss’ with those that teach us how to use our language assimilation. The kissing does not carry the meaning that it does on Earth.”

“I assume becoming the ruler is an achievement, although I would not consider it such. It is merely a favour for my Bumgorfs.”

“That I wasn’t there for my wife.”

“I have torn Gordanians apart. It was during the war, and I do not feel any hint of doubts over it being justified, but perhaps that is still counting as an evil act.”

“Likely, yes. For many minor things during my earlier years.”

“When I learned of what was happening close to our house.”

“I am not proud of my scarred eye. It is very much a sign of weakness, and as such embarassing, to be unable to see well through it anymore, but I have grown accustomed to it by now.”

“I try my best to be polite. And, yes, it does change. Often, at the first meeting, I am taking care to be more intimidating than usually, to assure my dominance, or that of Tamaran as a whole.”

“I would name my wife, but I believe this is about a person that is still alive, yes? Then, Starfire. I have helped raise her, and it is very wonderful to see what she has become by now.”

“Again, Starfire. It would be Myand'r, but as he has passed away a long time ago…”

“It is difficult to make friends as ruler of Tamaran. I am having some people that know me and that I enjoy to spend time with, but I don’t know if I would go as far as to call them friends.”

“We met at a time when I was very angry. She has challenged me, we were shouting at each other and she had also blasted me a few times. I begrudgingly agreed to her taking care of me, and she insisted that I stay longer in recovery than merely to be capable of basic fighting again. She managed to get me to open up again, and I by now see that agreeing to her care was the best choice I have ever made.”

What do you look for in a potential lover?

“I don’t look. I really don’t want any replacement for my Nic.”

How close are you to your family?

“I don’t have any family anymore. I feel close to Starfire still, despite her living on another planet.”

Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?

“We were on the way to starting one. When she was taken, it was not only Nic that I lost.”

“Starfire. Perhaps the Teen Titans.”

“The guards are there to protect the ruler. And I am certain that Starfire and her friends would also be willing and able to protect me. I would always prefer to protect myself, though; I am not that old yet.”

“Starfire, most likely. Perhaps Wildfire, too.”

“The Gordanians. But no specific person.”

“Arguing can be a very entertaining way of leading a discussion.”

“I have taken over the rulership because my Bumgorf asked me to, so I assume I do.”

“Of course. Festivities are most wonderful, and always better when the crowd is bigger.”

“I miss the meat of a creature that has once lived on Tamaran. With the current options… I do not have a true favourite.”

“I enjoy reading of the history of worlds.”

“Music is most wonderful! Especially when it is done with the more traditional tamaranean instruments.”

“It is exciting to be disrupted from routines!”

“My patience, perhaps, my acquired knowledge and experience.”

“My age. And my scarred eye.”

“My eye.”

“Extroverted, I would say. I do not mind approaching someone.”

“It was Nic who kept our things organized. By now, I have servants for such. I am not very organized, although messy sounds a bit too drastic.”

“I am good at fighting! I can give advice well. And… and I can stay calm longer than many tamaraneans. I cannot sing well. I am not good at giving in to a better side of an argument. I would not be able to stay objective in regards to the Gordanians.”

What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons…)

“I rule Tamaran because Starfire has asked me to. I am certain that eventually, Ryand'r will return home and take over.”

What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?

“I do not have anything I still wish to accomplish.”

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

“Heh. Hopefully, still as well and healthy as today.”

If you could choose, how would you want to die?

“In a battle. While dragging a batch of enemies with me.”

If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.

“I would inform Starfire, and Wildfire. I would do what I can to calm Ryand'r, and give him more confidence for his duty that would then find him faster than anyone expects.”

What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?

“For my services for Tamaran.”

“Experienced. Strong. Loyal.”

“Big. Perhaps intimidating, and perhaps old.”

Ian raised an eyebrow. "Define 'damage'."

"I mean," Nikki explained, a look of slight confusion on her face, "well, look at it! It's a cool magic sword! And it's glowing, too! That means it's super powerful!"

The sword in question was, in fairness, quite imposing: it was laid upon a fine black cloth in an enchanted display case, heavily warded to prevent any would-be burglars. Its old and marred steel glinting under nearby candlelight. The glowing that Nikki mentioned was actually just a multitude of purple crystals embedded into the cross guard and along the blade's length, their interactions with the lights giving the illusion of a dark glow.

"What, this thing?" Ian pointed at the object, smiling at her comments. "Yeah, it's a sword, but it's not a weapon! Quite the opposite, in fact!"

Nikki didn't seem to understand, from what the look on her face told him. "What do you mean? How can a sword not be a weapon?"

"Simple. When you use it to help instead of harm." Ian gestured to it again. "Once upon a time, this was a weapon, made to kill and maim without qualm or care for who it harmed. But one day, a wizened man by the name of Khalid ibn al-Fayed found it, lying with the body of its former owner after the Siege of Acre. He saw a weapon, one that had been used to mercilessly slaughter many of his fellow Muslims, and deigned a different purpose for it. Once it was just a sword, but now... it's the Void Walker's Guide, a tool that can pierce the very fabric of the universe with but a swipe. I held it once, used it... and I met the female version of me, if you can believe it!"

Nikki's eyes widened. "Wait, really? There's a girl you out there?"

"Yeah. Ira. She's... well, she's me, I guess. There's probably a guy version of you, too. Nick, maybe." He smiled. "Yeah, probably Nick."

Nikki looked at the sword. "It can... can it really do all that? Can I really do all that?"

"One day." Ian replied. "When you're old enough. And I trust you with the most powerful artefact in existence. Which isn't anytime soon, before you go getting any ideas."

"Aww man!"

Narrator: Realizing Loen’s real intention, Wind Elves can no longer sense the whereabouts of Nikki and her friends.

Narrator: Anger turns into hostility. Wind blades are woven into an impenetrable net to attack Loen.

Narrator: But the invincible wind blades can’t even touch Loen’s garment. Loen easily dodges all attacks.

Narrator: The air is full of restlessness, as if Wind Elves are panting anxiously.

Loen: You can’t attack me by doing that. If you don’t understand, look around.

Narrator: They come to the sea of dandelions. The fierce battle awakens the sleeping little white umbrellas.

Narrator: Dandelions’ soft leaves tremble and white fluffy balls fly in the sky.

Narrator: Among the fluffy balls, the traces of the wind are like flowing brushstrokes on the canvas and their traces can be clearly seen.

Loen: The wind is shapeless, but it is visible.

Narrator: Air currents form transparent and swift figures of Water Elves, which gradually emerge in the air.

Flying Petals: Outsiders, get out! Don’t trample on this forest!

Loen: It is the God of Water who wants to destroy this forest, but you aim your weapons at us, the insignificant outsiders.

Loen: Is it because Wind Elves have no guts to fight the God of Water, Arionus?

Narrator: Wind Elves are enraged and the air currents are about to cause a terrifying storm.

Flying Petals. You’ll pay the price for your words and deeds!

Narrator: Loen doesn’t intend to fight. Realizing the goal of delaying the time is achieved, he deliberately angers the Wind Elves to create a chance to escape.

Loen: I’m kidding. Don’t get mad. Bye.

Narrator: While Wind Elves are accumulating power, Loen crosses the sea of flowers and disappears in a blink of an eye.
