Chisaki primarily hurt characters who we actually get to know (Eri, Magne, Compress, Mirio, Nighteye) and more than that, he hurt them in permanent ways, entirely onscreen, something that was previously untouched in MHA. The LOV’s victims are rarely even shown, especially outside of the two-second scene where they get killed.

Something I rarely ever see people mention is how the LOV’s original plan was to kidnap Eri. You can say that maybe they were just going to keep her in the background while they did whatever/taken care of her. You could also say that they were planning to hand her over to Garaki so they could try to make the quirk-destroying bullets themselves. We have no idea what the rest of that plan was.

You see, Chisaki and the LOV are opposites in how they’re presented to the audience. The LOV’s “villainous acts” are typically vague and impermanent, whereas the reasoning behind why they’re a villain and why they do these things is detailed and patiently shown. Chisaki’s “villainous acts” are all onscreen and their consequences/pain happen to people we actually know, pain that we get to see. What actually happened to him in his youth and seeded these issues in him? We don’t get anything outside of strictly-plot-relevant details. With this, you have the perfect formula to have people believe that “this group” is better than “that group”.

It’s pretty clear Chisaki’s character is not meant to be understood in the same way the LOV are, because he is not like the LOV. He was abandoned, but he was also taken in, so he’s fine. His father-figure didn’t seem to outright abuse him, so his childhood was good. He was experimented on, but was he? And not anymore and we don’t get to see how he was before he was experimented on, so he’s fine and was always this way. He technically had everything the LOV members didn’t, so he never had anything significantly negative happen to him and he’s a jackass simply because he wants to be one.

Chisaki’s traumatic experiences were never explicitly shown, so they never happened. LOV’s bad actions were never explicitly shown (without a thorough explanation as to why they did them), so they weren’t that bad. Easy as that.

I have a lot of feelings towards the people who will scream at the top of their lungs endlessly about how the LOV members should all get perfectly happy endings, and then turn around and tear Chisaki to absolute shreds. I understand to an extent, but it is slightly ironic…

They’re all horrible people. Maybe they could’ve turned out better had their circumstances been different. That applies to all of them, the LOV and the Shie Hassaikai.

And because it was the pandemic and everyone was online all the time, the engagement was high. My inbox was full of asks about those two, and I just got to talk and talk about them. I made mutuals. I made friends. I joined my first discord server. I kept writing.

@lady-lauren and I started DMing, going from writing to like life stories basically. The paragraphs we were sending back and forth lmao thinking about it makes me laugh. And she introduced me to Nyki, and we all just existed and created and consumed.

There was a lot of toxicity in the bnha fandom back then, though. I mean, there still is, but it was different back then somehow. Anyone close to me or who has been around for these almost 5 years (omg kill me) might have an inkling about what/who I’m referring to, so I do want to state that in no way was I told to stop writing for Aizawa or that I was bad at it or anything like that. That person actually liked my version of him and told me! So the whole feeling like I couldn’t write for him was entirely self-imposed.

Anyway, a lot of stuff happened that made it harder and harder to enjoy being a part of the bnha fandom on tumblr, including the passing of one of my best friends. The reason why I can't behind any of the characters or things they do is that they're made into hypocrites.

You got Mina and Eijirou who're against bullies yet are friends with Bakugou don't do anything when he gets onto All Might.

Hawks who had a past with an abusive father and when Endeavor is exposed as one, he doesn't react or say anything about it.

Izuku with his quirkless past yet doesn't offer any sympathy towards those like him, like how he tried to make Nighteye laugh or Aoyama.

And then there's Aizawa... the guy's a walking hypocrite so I don't feel like going into any of the things he did.

All this makes it difficult to really get behind and like these characters when they contradict their characteristics this much all to make the worse characters look good.

Exactly this. Hori's characters act how HE wants them to to service the plot rather than what would fit their characters. So we have situations like this where they become hypocrites and bad things are implied about them. We have talked about Aizawa before so I'll focus on Izuku, Kirishima, Mina and Hawks.

Izuku - was quirkless, was horrifically abused by Bakugou for this as well as daring to try to help him out a river once.

Also Izuku - is NOT allowed once to reflect on the similarities between Aoyama and himself. Is NOT allowed to think one bit on his quirkless past or the horrific bullying (abuse) he went through. Does not seek to change the status quo now that he is a part of it. Or think about how HE could change how quirkless are being treated. This in my most charitable interpretation could be Izuku's self hatred coming out full force, he doesn't want to think about when he was quirkless so he doesn't. But this could also be construed as arrogance, stupidity and narrow minded-ness.

Izuku - knows in graphic detail the Todofam situation, is best friends with Todoroki Shoto and confronted Endeav for being a POS when he first met him.

Also Izuku - Acts like a fanboy of Endeavor in the agency arc and defends Endeavor to Dabi's face (another of Endeavor's victims.) - This puts a sour taste in my mouth not going to lie, this reads as Izuku thinking, 'because he's nice to me and he says he's going to change all is good now!' Also (unlike defending Shoto) defending Endeav just isn't necessary here. No one is denying Endeavor's mentorship or heroism skills. Dabi is saying he is an abuser and a shit dad which - you know - he is. Izuku reads as a naive, narrow-minded teenager at best here. There are better ways Hori could have worded Izuku stepping in - this wasn't it.

Mina and Kirishima: 'We hate bullies!' 😠 Very vocally anti bully, their heroism stories each center on it.

Also Mina and Kirishima: look on as Bakugou acts like the BIGGEST bully for all of the academic year and decide to become his besties. - This can be read as them being too thick to work out Bakugou is a bully at best. At worst... They read as cowards and hypocrites. The 'It's ok as long as he's not picking on me or my friends,' type.

Hawks: has an abusive father that was taken into custody by Endeav before being taken by the HPSC and enduring more intense training (likely abuse.)

Also Hawks: Despite his past abuse as an adult licks the boots of another abusive father, Endeav (Endeav's boots must be super shiny.) - Are we still pretending Hawks is an actual character at this point? All he is now is an Endeav Simp with some 'I killed Twice' angst sprinkled in. But I will save the major pieces of salt regarding Hawks for the ask I have about him. Least charitable interpretation - Hawks has LOW empathy thanks to his abusive childhood and latches on hard to a select few (Endeav) who he will protect, screw everyone else. Hawks doesn't care about Endeav's past child abuse, spousal abuse and literal crimes just what he means to him. Most Charitable - Hawks is an abused messed up person who never grew up past his idealisation of Endeav and clung to anything that meant he could keep the 'hero Endeav' in his mind intact.

With all of these deductions in mind, characters we are meant to root for feel flat, hypocritical, OOC and just downright bizarre at times.

Why? Because Hori bends characters to his script rather than writing the script for what works for the characters.

I hate how dirty they did my girl nejire, as far as I'm aware they didn't even do anything with her after the whole pagent thing she just got a small backstory about how she was sad (don't know all of it I haven't been keeping up that well w the manga)

Lots of mixed feelings, in all honesty. Lots of mixed feelings.

I'll admit, a big part of my mixed feelings about them is they showed up as the latest, 'Stomp on Izuku's everything' at the point in the story where it was becoming obvious that there was always something stomping on Izuku, and that gave me a bad first impression on them I've never been able to shake... which isn't helped by how they're connected to the clusterfuck of Nighteye, of all people, which is kind of my whole thing with Mirio (warning; I am biased):

As a person, he's obviously nice, but as a character, basiclly his entire reason for existing was, 'give Izuku an existential crisis' and I don't think I've ever forgiven him for that, really. His entire character is just bigger, stronger, older, happier, more capable, more confident, more successful, more loved Izuku, who had a Quirk his whole life and only had to dig deep to find out how strong it, and he, was all along.

Unironically. It's....

It's a really bad look, to be blunt; he feels kind of like a bad fanfiction character written by a bad writer who wanted to put their super special OC in the story, except he's canon.

Since we've never seen him even think something unheroic, there's really nothing that distinguishes him from that impression factual statement, which, again, makes it hard for me to give a shit about him, or even remember him... which is a problem Hori seems to share, lol. It doesn't help that I loathe Sir Nighteye and that most of his development time is spent admiring him, to boot, and that his parts of the story are either empty or focused on a living plot device I can't quite like no matter how hard I try because of how blatant the emotional manipulation is about the biggest story breaking, SOD shattering plot device until Stars and Stripes showed up.

If he ever got any kind of development to flesh him out a human being rather than being either Izuku and/or a heroic archetype, it'd help, but beyond all of that his biggest personality trait is liking jokes, and that barely even comes up. Or, rather, considering both the Final Arc and his response to Bakugou's name, along with Nighteye's own tendencies, 'jokes', maybe.

He doesn't deserve it, I admit it, it's not his fault, but I just can't get past that. He also doesn't deserve to just be forgotten until his big moment of a butt joke, but... MHA, everyone. In all honesty, I'd just like him better if his entire story arc didn't exist in and as some of the worst parts of the Overhaul arc, but he's tainted by that fact.

I freely admit that I am unfairly biased against him, so take all of that with a mountain of salt.

As a side note though, god, the story doesn't seem to realize how badly Nighteye is using the poor kid; Mirio thinks Nighteye is training him because he's worthy, while Nighteye mainly seems to be doing it because he's the closest thing to an All Might clone he can get, bar him actually cloning All Might, even if he grew to like him for who he is. I'm not sure Nighteye ever thought of Mirio with just his Quirk as anything more than a temporary situation; even at the start of canon, when on his own merits he's rising to fame with how successful he is, Nighteye's overall focus is still about getting AFO into the kid.

I almost wish I could see Nighteye explaining how all of his training came down to getting All Might's Quirk, just to see MIrio react and tear Nighteye down a peg about it, except Hori's history of handling these kinds of things means he'd never be allowed to be properly offended on his own behalf, the poor bastard.

Moving on, Tamaki. Out of all of them, he's had the biggest of an on-screen story arc, and in a intellectual way his Quirk is easily the most interesting. Unfortunately, while he has a personality, it feels so bland at times that he's far easier to remember for his Quirk than who he is.

I liked his story, really, but at the time it was overshadowed by Mirio and his everything, and by the time he showed back up it was clear how irrelevant it and he was, so it was more about how (admittedly, very) cool he get his Quirk to be than it was about him, and with some brutal honesty, it's probably because his Quirk is so interesting that he even got that much focus beyond that initial arc by Hori.

And... Nejirie.

In a combat sense she's easily the best of them, really; Mirio is almost purely defensive, which limits him (especially if he's not surprising someone with it) while Tamaki's Quirk, while flexible, is so conditional in ways that can easily hold him back (we only ever see him fight with full preparation; if he's not gearing for a fight he'd be easy to ambush), and like a lot of things in the Final Arc, his big laser canon thing is.... questionable.

Nejirie, though, is just simply powerful. In a setting where everyone has one power and one main application of that power, where you either fly or blast things, but not both, she's the closest I've seen to a 'traditional' super hero, like you'd see in Marvel or DC.

At the same time, though, out of the three of them she least has a story, for obvious reasons, and it's a disgrace, really. If Hori had just spent some time on her, on the her backstory that apparently exists (yeah, I'm not sure where that is either), she could have been so interesting... but really, all she is is the Girl Teammate. Her personality traits are The Girl Teammate's personality traits. She's just The Girl Teammate stamped over all of the interesting stuff, and it's such a waste, it really is.

And finally, as a unit? The Big Three is a shiny toy that Hori forgot in the corner somewhere as soon as he got bored with it. He spent a few minutes oohing and aahing over them, focusing really hard on developing interesting powers, how they could be used, and how strong they were, only to start to lose interest as soon as those powers were established, and he was writing the three of them off before their introductory arc was even over.

Anyway, I'm gonna be silly and analyze Toshi's part in the final war arc. But first, shoutout to Rukasu (RukasuMHA), Sky (CosmicallySalty), Toshinori's teeth enthusiast (DA1KA1JU), and Inès (tshw4ri) for their comments on the chapters because it help me better explain the parts I struggled with.

"It's funny how this almost makes sense, Nighteye. 'Continue down this path and you will encounter a villain. What awaits you then... Is an unspeakably gruesome death!!' A 'villain,' you said... Who'd ever believe this young man was All for One?" First of all, I could talk about Nighteye's vision for days. "Down this path", society blames All Might (and/or the lack of him) for its downfall, even when he continued fighting as a hero when his body was failing (though, they didn't know that).

But there are two points in Toshi's arc, and it's not useless that he's choosing to fight.

Proving Nighteye's vision wrong (because we already have seen first-hand that that can be done, and we already have the dead mentor trope with Nana)

So he himself knows he can help (more than just motivating his students)

"If your Foresight quirk's prediction still holds true... Then this is it. That much is clear." While Toshi has come to terms with this possibly being his final battle, he still says "if".

The part where he says "Gotta... Show my mug, right?!" May sound a bit stupid, but the paint still gets across. He's grinning while preparing to fight. The flashback of Nana telling Toshi to smile is just amazing.

Dude, the title being "Battle without a Quirk" with the "Armored All Might" panel is making me lose my shit. There are so many throwbacks to his Prime Age and Golden Age. While All for One can physically and actually revert and Toshi can't, he still has his throwbacks. The two bits mirroring his hair, the spot in his helmet for his smile to show through (even being a cutout of a smile on its own if you think about it), the diamond on his chest, the stripes on his shoulders, the things sticking out of his forearms mimicking his costumes, the cape and the way it's pinned to him, and the belt. He's got his smile back.

"I'll keep you updated on my battle... Tsukauchi." He cares enough to update Naomasa on how it's going (duh), giving me the idea that he has the confidence that he won't die, or at least last longer than anyone would expect, especially All for One (given the fact that it's "just" support gear he's working with).

"Wait, where're you off to?!" "To provide support for all." "Given the state you're in... How?" "So you've chosen how you'll greet death?! All the tools and gadgets in the world won't matter. A quirkless man could never hope to take on All for One." Even Naomasa doesn't have confidence in Toshi, his own friend. But Toshi doesn't necessarily want to take on All for One, he just wants to stall him long enough so he doesn't get to Shigaraki.

"Stop the stream, Aiba... All we'd be broadcasting... Is the brutal death of a former hero... Stealing a few minutes of All for One's time... To make sure his pupil's fight goes uninterrupted!" So, despite Naomasa knowing Toshinori's plan, he still chooses to not have confidence in him. Yet, Naomasa wanting to stop Toshi and not believing in him doesn't put a damper on his (All Might's) plans to stall.

"All Might..." All for One doesn't call him Toshinori or Yagi, he calls him by his hero name (despite the fact that he's the reason he lost his quirk).

"The number one roadblock in my life." All for One's dialog shows that he can't just simply swat Toshi to the side and continue to Shigaraki. It shows that their fight is personal.

"A toy worth mangling more than any other. Delaying my advance? A transparent ploy! You know exactly how this will play out." Yet, despite this, All for One actively chooses to fight Toshinori. He knows what his plan is and he continues.

"What're you... Smiling about?!" Even just Toshinori smiling like he used to pisses him off.

"Hercules!! Red..." First move; Kirishima.

"He took that and lived?!" People weren't expecting Toshinori's support gear to work, especially since it kind of tends to get a bad rep.

"The electric current meddles with my regen..." All for One loses his arm and blames it on Chargebolt. Toshinori isn't slinging random moves on him and praying they work. He knows his opponent and most likely has done his research on the quirks he knows.

"Wind him in Cellophane!!" Fourth move; Sero.

"Ever since your final battle against my master... You've made a habit of kicking fights off with haphazard ranged attacks!!" Toshinori doesn't get upset being reminded about Nana (probably because he's the one who brought her up and not All for One). More evidence of Toshi knowing All for One and that he's analyzed him.

"Sugarman!!" Fifth move; Sato.

"You love wearing folks down before stealing their quirks!" Despite Toshi barely fighting All for One first-hand, he still knows how he fights (most likely learned/relearned from Deku and how he assesses situations. Toshi has no quirk to rely on, but he does have his brains).

"But that approach... Is meant for fighting those with quirks!!" Toshi knows All for One well, as well as what moves to use/can use.

"You still so gloomy... About how this is gonna go, mister cop?" "After all that I've witnessed from him... I should know the measure of the man who's kept us safe and whole!!" Naomasa's confidence being restored.

"The suit and care are here... To keep me in this fight... If only for a bit! I came up with the specs and put in the design request! Back then, when you brought us to our knees... I had no choice but to take refuge over in the States! I made a friend there, and these are the fruits... Of that bond!!" MELISSA!! Toshinori admitted that he doesn't see himself lasting as long in the battle as he used to. He admits that he had to go to the United States, despite not wanting to (because he feels useless for not getting immediate revenge for Nana).

"All that I've been blessed with..." Toshinori references One for All, how he was quirkless, and indirectly Nana too, but he's not upset about it.

"Will bear its weight against you!!" Despite no longer having One for All, he still has the confidence of All Might, proving that he's still him (and All Might is still Toshinori), even without a quirk.

"I'll use this very hand... To shape my own fate!!" Flashback to show him going against Nighteye's prediction.

"We've known each other long enough that you should realize something... My dear friend!!" Is he talking to Naomasa or is he teasing All for One? Why not both? Both is good.

"Shoot style... Smash!!" Sixth move; Deku (and his use of One for All).

"Not once... In my entire life... Have I gone into battle expecting to lose!!" Even with just support gear, Toshi believes he won't lose (or better yet, won't die) while fighting (even if others don't believe in him).

This is just a vent session/ideas that I don't how to express other than ranting and complaining about it like a Karen, don't mind me

We all know that the world building and rules of bnha are bullshit and I get tired of fics using the same trope with the same people and the same place. I am looking at you vigilante!Midoriya fics. Of course there are some exceptions with original content like green guide and viridian(time travel fic), but most of them are the same with slight differences.

Where am I going with this? Well generally 90% percent of fics and canon itself is focused on one place,Musutafu. Even though, our heroes go to other cities, generally they're there for one fight and then go back to the capital of bnha. While ocs are not interesting to some people, they could be used to take a breath of fresh air from class 1-A and explore the world of bnha even more.

For example, who does investigations? We don't see heroes investigating most of the time (except nighteye). They are more like responders and generally do not act before a criminal does. Obviously it would be police and investigators, as stated in canon, they are above heroes and can call them to take action. However, we don't see the police that much except for Tsukauchi and the Chief of Hosu police. Wouldn't it be cool to see stories about police without showing all mha characters into the police department?

Who works in the underground? We are told about the power AFO has on the underground, but not shown. At most we saw 3 organizations that get involved in a big battle and go out with a bang. What about others? Organizations that establish their power in one place, trade with others, make deals with legal departments and generally stay hidden. Okay, I admit, those are shown in canon, but not that great. I want to see underground doctors, mafias, weapon smuggling, illegal trade with other countries, corrupt police and politicians (not HPSC), law battles, brokers (not Giran), contingency plans for the destruction of the hero industry, bars, casinos, smart criminals that know their limits and so on. I need to search a little bit more for criminal and underground info.

What about other cities? You can take vigilante! Midoriya and have him protect another city with less to none heroes. Just look at Deika city! It doesn't have heroes that are not part of MLA. Have Midoriya go to a reputable high school in the desired city to have an excuse to go there and protect it. Have him make deals with some shady, but harmless businesses, if you want to make him morally gray or make his character develop to not see everything black and white. Have him meet other underground heroes, aside from Aizawa!

What are other countries doing, while all of shit show is happening in canon? If this is Japan 200 years into the future, then you can bet that everyone already knows about what is going on there, because internet🤌. Why did only America respond? What were their motifs for helping Japan, because politics. Where the fuck is military? Most of those villains would be dead from a military grade weapon!

Here is a thing about Nighteye and his Quirk that I haven't been able to get out of my head for a while now:

If his Quirk were to actually work the way he says it does, it would mean that it's probably the most powerful reality warping Quirk we know, simply by implications.

Hows that?

Well, in canon Nighteye explains his Quirks thusly:

1: He can see someones future.

2: Once he sees someones future, said future is set in stone and can not, in any way, be changed or altered at all.

This implies that, up to the moment in which Nighteye uses his Quirk, free will, choice and everything are operating as expected and the future remains flexible. People make choices and form their own future while also influencing those around them with their decisions.

Implicitly, that would also mean that this stops being the case as soon as he uses his Quirk, at least for himself, the target of his Quirk, and most if not everyone who interacts with him or the target until the event that he predicted takes place. The fate of everyone involved gets set in stone, otherwise any kind of action they take could, theoretically, change the conditions that are necessary for the vision to come true, as such, their choices are restricted/taken away by the Quirk to make sure the seen future comes to pass.

Knowing that he predicted All Mights death BEFORE canon started, and said death hasn't happened, AND All Might comes into contact with A LOT of people, that would mean that Nighteyes Quirk casually manipulated the "fate" of hundreds if not thousands of people, for years on end.

And, like, that would be so SO much more powerful than any other Quirk, AfO, Rewind and New Order included, that it simply couldn't be how the Quirk works, it would just be so out of proportion.

I actually want Izuku to point this out in one of my WiPs, but I have no idea if I will ever be able to write that part, so, here we are.

And yes, being the fatalist shit that he is, Nighteye would probably assume that his Quirk is NOT manipulating free will on a global scale and that, instead, free will never existed in the first place and no future is/was ever changeable and everything is predetermined, no matter how his Quirk does or does not work.

Yeah it seems more likely that Nighteye assumes the future is always set in stone and that as long as he doesn't look at it he can pretend that things will go well. This is one of the big reasons I hate him, because I'm a big proponent of free will

Toshis whole story arc is about him twisting fate and living despite Nighteyes prediction that he would die... Nighteye having been proven wrong with Deku would make AM dying a gruesome death after all this... just stupid.

Also AFO is the one who thinks AM should die and should have let himself die in their fight and Hori would be a fucking idiot for letting AFO get that win.

Self-indulgent au where Mr Compress is a hero but like. The most sketchy ass hero ever and so fucking unhelpful at times.

He isn't being threatened to be a hero he chose this but he's also making it everyone's problem. He's going to be annoying and he's going to do things that help.

The reason why he became involved with heroes is honestly because Yagi caught him stealing stuff from him and Yagi just sort of went "Young man, do you want lunch?" and next thing you know you have Torino asking Yagi "What do you mean you adopted a teenager."

Sako at that point still doesn’t want to be apart of the hero scene. He’s honestly satisfied with what he has right now and it is a brand of stability that he has compared to his…previous situation.

He pops in and out of the apartment a lot but slowly he gets more comfortable with Yagi. He slowly just gets more comfortable and relaxed around him and he does take Yagi's advice on turning around. He still wants to help people directly but this is stable. Plus with the money he's getting he's helping out Magne with her transition costs. Yeah he could just leave but honestly he wants to stay and do this.

And then Yagi went into the hospital after fighting the fucking Demon King and apparently he’s going to die according to Nighteye! And he’s still going to work despite there literally being the very real medical risk of dying on the job! And APPARENTLY there's something called OFA!? Hey Yagi what the fuck is this shit!?

He honestly gets so fed up that he becomes a hero himself to go and figure out this AFO stuff and because he doesn't exactly trust that the Demon King is dead. This doesn't that he's going to be a shining example of a hero. Oh no. He's going to become an Underground Hero and he's going to make sure that his main goal is justice and he's going to get it through legal means yes but also those legal things are skirting the law a bit. He's going to be a hero and make it EVERYONE'S problem.

So he becomes Noraneko and we watch as everyone just slowly consider him the most sketchy ass person ever yet at the same time one of the most efficient underground hero ever.

A man who runs on spite and dramatics goes and starts acting a bit like Mr Holmes and drags one Shirakumo Oboro with him on his hero investigations. How is Shirakumo alive? Let's just say that Sako has had several incidents where he had to bailed out for Quirk Usage after he got caught by Yagi.

Meanwhile, in the future, one young Midoriya Izuku goes and obtains One For All and becomes his life's goal.

To become the fabulous Phantom Thief of the Ages! Kitsune! Heir of the Peerless Thief and your neighborhoods Robin Hood!

Sako may or may not have encouraged his nephew into following those footsteps.

No matter! Things will be okay. Sako is slowly chipping away at what was left of the Demon King’s forces and Izuku is staying away from the more dangerous parts of the Underworld until he made a name for himself and has a good support system that isn’t just Sako and his friends. Everything will be okay!

i'd really like to know more about how you have visioned other heroes reacting to allmight. how his place in the world is so very different. your au is very intriguing!

We've seen time and again that the Heroes are a bit more likely to bend the rules when it comes to the law (like Midnight in Vigilantes) within reason, and for someone like All Might - who, for the longest time, was someone who everyone looked up to, being labelled as public enemy #1 is inconceivable. So of course they don't really react in the appropriate way, at least, not all of them.

All Might was still the #1 hero for a grand portion of his career. All for One's games were small things at first, never too big, never involving the public too much, and it never really escalated over the years until the beginning of All Might's golden age - when All Might began to prove that maybe he was much more trouble than he was worth. The public grew more involved, more villains grew more involved, lotsa violence, too much violence, too many mindgames, and in the end it got to Toshinori

At the moment I call The Point Of No Return (which was the original fic title, but is now just the part in the timeline where the public turns its back on All Might, and in turn All Might turns his back on the Hero Commission and the Government), only a few heroes publicly choose to raise arms against All Might. But still, he's like... All Might. What are they gonna do, arrest him? He's now essentially a wanted vigilante, they gotta, of course, but like... can they? :"D Even Endeavor, for all that he's a shit father (though trying to be better), is a damn fucking good hero and will not hesitate to step in and bring him in. (Gets his ass handed to him, is reminded again and again that All Might is so much more than he ever is, gets a shit tonne of sense beaten into him, mellows out a bit)

Eraserhead avoids All Might like the plague. Or rather, All Might avoids Eraserhead, and Eraserhead spent too many months - maybe even years chasing shadows and then for his own mental health does his own kind of avoidance.

Nighteye was initially brought into the loop in becoming All Might's sidekick (Toshinori is such a lonely man, and Nighteye seems so damn competent, surely its okay to lift the burden at least a bit, surely), and he of course never lost hope in All Might, but he was very much abandoned without a word after the Point of No Return and Toshinori hasn't contacted him since

I MEAN, OKAY I UNDERSTAND, BUT I WASN’T EXPECTING A REACTION LIKE THAT FROM URARAKA OF ALL PEOPLE”- It is possible to wrap somebody up in the lines, but whilst Toga’s equipment is normally used for the intent of stabbing and draining blood, here, she only uses them to retaliate in kind after Uraraka attacked her in anger when she was bearing her heart out to her- badly, but still. 3) “OH NO NOT THE FLATSCREEN HOW ARE WE GONNA WATCH [insert popular tv series here]NOW?”- Cracks in the screen dividing the image, like the divide that grows ever deeper between these two girls over the misunderstanding. 4) “Uraraka just doesn’t understand what Toga is trying to get at, but we do. She is trying to get uraraka to understand her, to see who she is, to see her as person.

This is a desperate attempt from Toga to reveal who she is in the hopes that one hero will see her as something besides a monster.

And it’s not working.”- At her lowest, it was Uraraka’s power that saved her. Now, at her lowest, she turns to the girl herself for aid….and it doesn’t work out, convincing her the only sanctuary in this world rests with the league – what’s left of it, anyway. 5) “OH MY GOD TOGA THIS SCENE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SAD BUT I’M LAUGHING AT YOU RUNNING LIKE A KINDERGARTEN THAT JUST STOLE ANOTHER KID’S TOY”- A taste perhaps, of what their relationship could have been like if they’d grown up meeting each other before becoming a hero or a villain. 6) “OH OKAY BACK TO THE FUCKING HEARTBREAK I SUPPOSE THANK YOU HORIKOSHI FOR LETTING ME LAUGH FOR FIVE SECONDS BEFORE STABBING ME ON THE GUT AGAIN”- Toga tries to relate to Uraraka by bringing up something she also values just as much, but fails again to understand that she’s not explained to Uraraka that he’s dead and the connection they shared is gone, whereas Uraraka and Izuku’s is still intact. 7) “OH MY GOD SHE’S BITING IT BECAUSE THAT’S HOW SHE EXPRESSES LOVE HORIKOSHI PLEASE CAN YOU LET ME CATCH MY BREATH BEFORE ANOTHER BLOW?”- Getting a taste of the loving and stable relationship that she so craves, but can just never seem to get right. If she’d ever had a similar token from that kid who she first stabbed, I bet she’d have kept it on her all this time. 8) “Also, good for you, Elsa, but those feelings refuse to be shut down. They’ll strike when you least expect.”- Uraraka means she’s shut down the romantic feelings and attraction to Izuku in order to be a more effective hero who can support him, not that she’s gotten rid of them for good.  It stops her being an ineffective love interest ham stung by her emotions at crucial moments, as has been done in other manga. Yet ironically, it’s precisely those feelings that would have made her an effective hero to Toga here, able to relate to her somewhat and show that she’s not alone 9) “Oh okay, Toga seems to have like that particular point, I have a feeling she took that on a positive note, and I can kind see why, from what we’ve seen of her backstory she also repressed her feelings for a long time, before they burst forth and everything spiraled out of control.”- Toga thinks that Uraraka hates having to repress her true self, where in actuality, Uraraka would hate herself for being ineffective because of those same feelings in a crisis, unable to focus on saving people if she thinks/knows Izuku’s in danger. It’s born in part from Nighteye’s death during the Hassaki raid and feeling she maybe could have done more to help him, even if her emotions didn’t really impede her back then. 10) “Oh my god toga is so desperate trying to get Uraraka to understand but it just

doesn’t work

no matter what

they are talking about different things, they are worrying about different things”- Toga isn’t even wrong here really. Uraraka not facing her true emotions down and reconciling them with Izuku means they’re at risk of gradually growing underneath that repression, potentially resulting in another outburst when she can least afford it. But here and now, Uraraka’s feeling haven’t gotten that far yet, and she’s focused on the present chaos, rather than seeking a compromise with Toga that could lead to a happier future for her. In a way, this fight is a microcosm of the larger conflict between heroes and Villains, and how failure to communicate only deepens the conflicts and the escalation between both sides. 11) “I do agree with you Uraraka, but the thing that you don’t understand, that Toga was trying to make you understand, is that she is not doing it out of evil. She’s doing it because it’s how she expresses her love. That’s what makes it worse, she doesn’t want to cause pain, she wants to share her feelings, but the way she does it is completely incompatible with others

Toga needs to be stopped, that there is no doubt, and I’m sure you’re gonna do that, but I hope that when the time comes, you at least understand who she is.”- Toga gets battered by Uraraka’s satelites, because of how chaotic they are in the cramped space, but it also represents the final rejection of Uraraka getting through her naive hopes and directly hurting her with the harsh truth of the inevitability of them coming to blows, no matter how much Toga wishes it would be otherwise. 12) “SHE WAS FUCKING CRYING HORIKOSHI WHY YOU DO THAT TO ME YOU BASTARD”- And of course, it’s only when Toga gives up on the possibility of them understanding each other that Uraraka finally realises there was more to her words than her being a villain, or trying to taunt her like she thought she was. It’s only once it’s too late for reconciliation that the other side realises what they let slip through their fingers. 13) “Oh Toga is going back to them? that’s surprising, considering who’s there right now, but I suppose that she doesn’t blame Dabi the same way that we do. She does seem to be hurt about him not caring that much, but she definitely doesn’t blame him.

And, meanwhile, I feel like Uraraka has finally understood Toga, even if it was too little too late”- She really has nothing else, no other source of support or comfort from her pain, no matter how off-put she is about Dabi’s flippancy towards the loss of twice. 14) “AND THERE HE IS, RIGHT ON TIME
