imperfect for you . . . ♡
—c.s
in which . . . chris helps y/n through her insecurities.
this story contains: crying, fluff, body image issues, insecurities. don’t read if you aren’t comfortable. :)
written by @delilahsturniolo
“fucked up, anxious, too much.”
“but I'll love you like you need me to.”
“imperfect for you.”
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —
I shakily brushed my mascara over my eyelashes, coating them until I was satisfied. I sighed, covering the tube of mascara before setting it down. I stepped back, analyzing myself in the mirror.
Today me and Chris were supposed to be going out together, so I was currently getting ready.
This was my 4th time changing my outfit and hairstyle. I wasn’t happy. I wasn’t satisfied with the way I looked at all.
The more I looked into the mirror, the more flaws I found.
Why is my body shaped so weirdly?
Why is my face so unsymmetrical?
Is there something wrong with me?
Why can’t I be pretty?
These reoccurring thoughts were taking up my brain, it was all too much.
I took my hair brush, grunting as I combed through my hair, trying to get rid of the frizz. My concealer couldn’t even cover up my acne, my outfit wasn’t good. I couldn’t even look in the mirror, my hips were weirdly shaped, my pimples wouldn’t go away.
It was all so weird, I felt uncomfortable in my own body. I let out a frustrated sigh, turning to the side and lifting up my shirt. My eyes repeatedly scanned up and down my body and my face.
I put my shirt down, walking over to my bed and slowly sitting down.
I picked up my phone, opening instagram.
I began to mindlessly scroll, trying to distract myself from my distress. However, posts of girls came up on my feed. My heart sank as I went through the photos. Their hair was silky and long, their makeup was clean and done nicely, and their waists were as thin as ever.
I didn’t even realize my eyes were flooding with tears. I looked down at my own body, unhappy with what I saw.
I sniffled, letting out a soft cry. My mind immediately went to Chris.
How could he ever want to be with someone like me? I wasn’t…pretty. How could anyone think I was pretty? I didn’t believe I was Chris’s type at all.
I set my phone down, softly crying to myself. I grabbed my pillow, beginning to sob into it, letting out all my pent up emotions.
My crying abruptly stopped when I heard someone call out from downstairs.
“Hey baby? How’s it goin’ up there? You almost done sweetheart?” Chris asked from the stairwell.
I quickly wiped my tears, trying to contain myself. “U—uhm, yeah!” I shakily shouted back, I was far from ready though.
All I could think about was the way I looked. I would look like an embarrassment walking next to Chris.
Suddenly, I heard a knock on my door. Chris slowly opened my room door and entered, I looked the opposite direction as he stepped into my room. This didn’t go unnoticed by Chris though.
“Y/n? You okay?” Chris asked, his voice barely above a whisper. I softly sniffled, not responding to him.
Chris slowly walked over to me, bending down in front of me so he was eye level with me. He gently grabbed my chin, making me look at him.
His heart sank, watching my red eyes and my tear stained cheeks.
“What’s wrong baby, why are you crying my love?” Chris’s voice was soothing and gentle as he wiped my tears with his thumb, slowly rubbing my shoulder in a calming motion.
“Talk to me sweetheart, it’s okay.” Chris reassured, he wrapped one arm around my waist, the other hand swiping across my cheeks, wiping my tears.
I took a shaky breath before speaking. “H—how could you wanna be with someone like me? I’m not even pretty enough..” I sniffled, Chris’s face dropped.
“Baby, no—“
“Don’t even lie to me, Chris. I’m not pretty like other girls, I’m so ugly. I hate myself.” I let out a sob, my body shaking with each cry.
Chris didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around me tightly, engulfing me in a loving, warm hug that I desperately needed. His heart completely shattered at my words.
“Stop it. No more of that.” Chris pulled away from the hug, cupping my face in his hands.
“Baby, listen to me. You are the most beautiful, and perfect girl ever, and I’m not just saying that. I mean it. You are a strong girl, with a kind heart.” Chris’s tone was soft as his thumbs caressed my cheeks.
He gently leaned in, kissing my tears away slowly, his hands rubbing up and down my body soothingly.
Chris gently took my hand, taking me over to my long rectangular mirror.
He rested his chin on my shoulder and hugged me from behind.
“See this pretty girl over here? She’s the love of my life. She’s the most gorgeous girl ever, she’s the girl I want to spend the rest of my life with.” Chris whispered in my ear, a smile grew on my face as I looked at us in the mirror.
“I love you, Chris.” I said, Chris smiled down at me warmly as he buried his face into the crook of my neck.
“I love you more, pretty girl. We don’t have to go out okay? We can just relax and watch a movie.” Chris explained, I nodded.
“Sounds good to me.” I agreed, Chris slowly leaned in, pressing his lips against mine in a comforting manner.
He was always there when I needed him, even in my worst moments.
And that’s what I absolutely love about him.

forks and forts - aged up!m. fushiguro x reader
contents: megumi takes care of you
a/n: im in the middle of a five page paper for a class so i wanted to post a lil fluff to help me get my thoughts under control o< -< he honestly might b a lil ooc but i hope u like it n e way
you let out a happy sigh as you sink into the bathtub, nose gently kissing the suds that fill the top layer of the tub. as you gently slide back upwards, you tilt your head to your right, resting your ear on the cold porcelain of the garden tub. megumi stares at you from the bathroom door, his hair pushed up with a silly bear themed headband you’d bought him months ago. he flicks the bathroom light on and you shrink back into the lukewarm bath water, squinting as your eyes adjust. you scrunch your nose as he leans over the bathroom counter and blows out your newly purchased bath and body works candle, sending dainty tendrils of smoke into the air.
“how long are you gonna’ be in here?” megumi looks at his reflection in the mirror and squints, immediately reaching for the container of q-tips to his left.
you sigh as you sit up properly and lean over your knees, you knock your forehead into your legs before turning your head to look at him, your cheek pressed snuggly against your legs still. cold air blows against your wet skin and you shiver in the tub. you watch as megumi brings the q-tips to his cheek and presses them together on a pimple, his brows furrowed in disgust and concentration over his ministrations.
you don’t know what time it is, but you’ve an inkling it’s been over your usual hour–especially after seeing megumi come into the bathroom. he knows to leave you alone when you’ve made yourself cozy in the tub.
“i put your takeout in the oven,” he says, glancing over at you as he tosses the q-tips in the trash and washes his hands. he digs around behind the bathroom mirror for a second before pulling out acne patches and a pair of neon pink tweezers, pressing a patch onto his cheek with a shrug. “i also made a fort in the living room and put on your favorite movie… wanna join me?” he turns to you, his cheeks tinted pink at your hunched over form. he rubs at his nape as he looks at you, and his blue eyes hold admiration; the only time an active shine takes over his pretty blue eyes is when he’s looking at you. your stomach and heart do a flip in tandem and you bite back a smile. you silently thank every god you know for megumi and the way that he cares for you.
you sigh again, this time filled with giddy, child-like love, “yeah, but i need to wash my hair first…”
megumi lets out a huff, and if you hadn’t known him better you would've thought he was annoyed with you, but you know he doesn’t mean it in a mean way. especially when he immediately pads over to you and drops down to his knees next to the tub, “i can do that,” he says somewhat monotonously and you smile at him, fondness overtaking your features and a breathy ‘thank you’ on your lips.
he rolls up his sleeves and dips his hands into the bath, grunting at how cold the water is, before reaching for the bottle of strawberry scented shampoo. you watch as he flips the top open, attempting to squirt a generous amount onto his hand. the bottle makes a sound as he shakes it up and down and squeezes. you giggle at the noise.
“i’ll buy more tomorrow,” megumi says more to himself than to you and closes the bottle, satisfied with the amount squirted out into his open palm.
he sets the empty bottle down next to him to rinse it out and put it in recycling later and sets to work his lithe fingers into your hair, scratching at your scalp. you let out a hum of approval and his face warms again at the little sound.
“thank you, gumi,” you say happily as he dips a hand into the water and stands to grab the shower head.
“yeah, whatever,” he mumbles, bringing the shower head down and turning the water on. he lets you run your fingers under the faucet to approve of the temperature before pulling the little latch. “can you turn around?” he asks and you nod, shifting around in the tub so your back is to the faucet.
the spray of water against your scalp is warm as megumi runs his fingers through your hair, scratching softly against your head as he cleans the suds out of your hair. you close your eyes and hum quietly, opening your eyes briefly when megumi asks that you hold onto the shower head. you agree silently, taking it into your hand while megumi lathers your hair in a generous amount of conditioner. he runs his fingers through your hair, making sure to get all of your hair.
“thank you,” you say again when he finally takes back the shower head. he huffs out a laugh as he rinses the conditioner from your hair, lifting and lowering your hair to get it all out.
by the time he’s finished, the water in the tub is soapier than before and significantly warmer. megumi helps you out of the water, careful to make sure you don’t slip. once he’s assured you’re out of the tub safely, he reaches into the foamy water and pulls the stopper, letting the liquid drain noisily. you’re in awe with the way he moves, so smoothly next to you. he helps you dress after he wipes his soapy hands and forearm and then draws you out to the living room where his fort lays waiting.
“get comfy,” he tells you, watching as you curl up in the pile of pillows and blankets thrown on the floor. the coffee table is pressed against the far wall and megumi reassures you that he’ll put it back once the two of you are done.
megumi leaves for a moment to grab your food for you, you assume, so you look for a movie. you think you’ve seen nearly everything that any streaming service offers but you still look. in the end, megumi is going to pick—always some movie recommended to him by yuuji or gojo. it’s always something good, too.
“you find anything?” megumi asks as he sits down next to you, balancing a to-go box in his arms. you sit up and wrap your blanket around his shoulders, pulling him into you tightly.
“trade me?” you ask, pawing at your food with a blanket-wrapped hand. megumi hands you the container and takes up the tv remote, his dark blue eyes on the tv as he easily navigates to a movie. you hum in delight at the movie he puts on, the sound turning a little sour when the audio blares too loudly. megumi lowers it before you can ask.
you cozy up into megumi even further and open your to-go container, pleased to find that steam emits from the cheap chinese food inside. without having to ask, he’d microwaved your food for you.
“thank you,” you tell him around a mouthful of warm noodles, your eyes trained on him instead of the actors on screen.
megumi looks at you and the admiration comes back. he smiles small and shyly, nearly impossible to see in the dark. “anything for you,” he promises you.
you knock your knee into his under the blankets and he offers his food to you, letting you take a piece of chicken because like he said—he’d do anything for you.

Facial cleansing products and body wash 🚿
Hi everyone! In my last post I talked about skin types, the different characteristics of each, and the recommended types of products. In today's mini - essay I'd like to talk about skin in general, the different methods of cleansing, specifically body wash products, and why your average store body cleanser is probably not the best option.
As you might already know, the approach to cleansing should be different depending on your skin type, but keeping yourself clean is an essential factor, no matter what kind of characteristics your skin has. One of the methods to cleanse is through peelings and exfoliation. They are excellent choices for people who have thick and greasy skin, or problems such as acne.
Obviously, you shouldn't use just any scrub on your face. There are special exfoliating products designed for facial care specifically, which contain smaller scrubbing molecules, while exfoliating products for the body are bigger and rougher. What peeling and exfoliating products provide is basically removing excess dead skin, unclogging pores, and making the skin much softer afterwards.
Note : Exfoliating and peeling procedures shouldn't be done on a daily basis. Once a week is good, since doing this more often can result in skin that is too sensitive and easily irritated.
The next type of cleansing products work through attraction of dirt to the product. They are usually applied with a brush. Here we can talk about clay masks (White clay, also called kaolin), algae extract, charcoal masks (That are in a paste-like form), and zinc oxide. This kind of cleansing is very effective, deep and thorough, because it removes the excess secretions off the skin, such as sweat and dirt.
About body wash products
People mostly believe that the more foam a gel or shampoo creates, the better. It might give the illusion of a strong cleansing product. This isn't exactly wrong, but ;
Even though products that produce a lot of foam have a high cleaning efficacy, they also remove the skin's natural hydration.
They are very powerful when it comes to cleansing power, but perhaps too powerful for people that have dry or sensitive skin. They are the most irritant. Not only that, but they aren't particularly beneficial for any skin type, although they can be tolerated better by oily skin, yet the issue is that even people with oily skin present the most oiliness on their face, not on their body.
Therefore, very foamy products indicate high cleansing power, which might be effective in cases when you are very dirty, but if you keep regular hygiene habits, these products might just end up drying your skin too much.
We can also conclude that products that don't foam as much are better when it comes to respecting the skin's natural barrier ; They clean less that products that foam a lot, but this "less" doesn't always mean worse ; Like I mentioned, depending on your situation, you might need a powerful, foaming cleanser, but with a normal hygiene and a good, consistent routine, it is better to stick to less foaming and less irritating products.
Product recomendations for skincare
Cleansing milk is excellent for mixed, normal or dry skin. It adapts very well to the skin's natural pH, it is not irritant nor invasive. It's a good choice for sensitive skin as well, due to its gentleness. In addition, it makes the skin soft and hydrated, without feeling too greasy. You might see that some cleansing milks have hydrating properties too.
Syndet cleansers, or combo cleansers that combine soap and syndet. They are gentle on the skin as well, and syndet cleansers contain no soap, being a good choice for dry and sensitive skin especially. (Oily skin would benefit more from a combo, since it needs soap for thorough cleanse)
Oat cleansers. Oats are natural cleansers, so it's a good choice if you want to cleanse your skin while keeping things more natural. It has calming properties, being effective against easily irritated, dry, and sensitive skin in general. Oat products can come as creams and facial sprays as well, being effective for treating chronic dryness problems, such as atopic dermatitis or itchiness. Besides cleaning, it also provides the skin with a protective layer, maintaining it nourished.
Other products that I have personally used :
Facial products
- Sensibio Gel moussant by Sesderma
>It's mostly aimed for sensitive skin, and I use it because it's very gentle, contains no soap or fragrance and doesn't dry my skin out. It removes makeup pretty well too.
- Clarins Soothing gentle foaming cleanser
> It's aimed for sensitive skin as well, and it works very well as a cleanser. I noticed that you need very little of it to fully wash your face, even if you're wearing a bit of makeup. The skin feels very nice afterwards, which is great.
For face cream I use Nivea Soft, hydrating intense and refreshing cream. I mostly have dry / mixed skin, and this cream's hydrating effects last for a very long time, like I apply it in the morning and the whole day I feel my skin being very nourished. It's an excellent product if you suffer from dry skin or dry spots.
For the body
I have personal experience using Le Petit Marseille products. I believe their products are sold in pharmacies for about 4-5$ (I have the body wash gel with almond milk scent, and when I tell you it smells HEAVENLY) and they have other scents as well, such as peach and orange.
Their body wash gels don't contain that many ingredients, guaranteeing less possibility for irritation by other components, smell very, very good, and are gentle on the skin. They cost a bit more than an average body wash, but it is an investment so worth it for your skin.
I have used body wash products from InterApothek as well. Their products are sold in pharmacies, and the price is about 3-4$ I believe. The ingredients are 96% natural, and the products are fully vegan. I personally like their pomegranate gel a lot, it smells very good. I think this is a Spanish company though, I'm not sure if they sell these abroad (but it's so worth buying!)
Thank you for reading!

Chapter One
Hi guys! Welcome! I feel like it's only appropriate to start this blog off with some skin care. However today we aren't going to just talk about products because before we can decide what's best for your skin we need to know your skin type. There are three major skin types, oily skin, dry skin and combination skin. Some might say that acne prone skin is another type but that's up to debate. Oily skin can be described as skin that secretes an excessive amount of the body’s natural oils. Dry skin is the complete opposite of that because it secretes little to no natural oils leaving the skin very dry. Combination skin is a combination of the two skin types meaning some parts of the skin are oily (usually the t-zone) and some parts are dry (usually the side of your cheeks).
My oily|combination skin tips;
Any product with high amounts of niacinamide and salicylic acid works wonders for your oily skin.
Make sure to wash your face both day and night.
Stick to a proper skincare routine.
Use fragrance free products.
Drink lots of water.
Try your best to avoid oily foods in your diet.
My dry skin tips;
Wash your face once a day preferably at night only.
Try to stay away from stripping cleansers and bar soap cleansers.
Incorporate products with hyaluronic acid , ceramides and glycerin into your skin care.
Use a moisturizing cream and not moisturizing lotion.
Drink lots of water
Try to keep a fresh diet
Stick to your skincare routine
How to apply your skincare in order.
Cleanser- You should always start your routine with a clean base. So picking a cleanser that's suitable for your skin type is important because that's the first line of action in your routine. For the dry skin girlies as I recommended, only wash your face at night so in the morning to achieve that clean base you can cleanse with micellar water and a cotton pad.
Toner- Toner removes any last traces of dirt, grime and impurities stuck in your pores after you wash your face. When added to your daily skincare routine and used regularly, it can have a major positive impact on the appearance and tightness of your pores. Be keen to look at the ingredients before picking a toner that's suitable for your skin. Remember to pick ingredients that will help your skin and achieve your desired goal of clean skin.
Serums- Your next step should consist of serums. Now it is important to note which serums are to be used at which time. For example a serum containing high amounts of retinol should be used at night only. In your serums is where you can really incorporate the elements needed to help your skin. I will do another post talking about the best brands and products containing the best ingredients for your skin type but for now we can look and use what we can.
Eye-cream- Eye-cream is a very controversial step. A lot of people argue that it's unnecessary or that it doesn't work. Personally, I love it and think it works wonders for the puffiness under my eyes. As a university student this has become very helpful in trying to hide my lack of sleep.
Moisturizer- This is supposedly the last step. Well at night that is. Again the selection of this product should vary on the type of skin you have.
Sunscreen- Sunscreen should be the last thing you apply in your routine. It should be applied 15 minutes before contact with sunlight. I don't think I have to stress on how important sunscreen is. Picking a sunscreen however can be tricky. Some people tend to need higher levels of spf in order to be protected while others can use lower levels and still be fine. I say use the highest available to you if you don't know what level you need. There's no harm in it and you are sure you are protected.
Bonus face masks- Face masks aren't a part of your everyday skincare routine but it should be a part of your overall routine. A face mask to exfoliate should be added to your routine and it should be done at least once and week. Exfoliation should not be done everyday as it can be very harmful to the skin's barrier. A mask for hydration should also be added to your routine to be done at least once a week.
Tumblr media
I hope you learnt a lot in today's post. That's all for this week. Be sure to join me next Friday for a lesson on haircare. Have a wonderful week and be sure to stay hydrated. Thank you for reading!
Here is a song to help set the mood for your routine.

And the Devil Appears || Will x Mac
genuinely very brave of me to post a fic for a decade old fandom that does not seem to exist on tumblr <3 to the two people who interacted with my ff will x mac blurbs this is for you. and a big ty to @hotchs-bitch for betaing this bad boy for me!!
contains: alcohol consumption, angst
wordcount: 1045
The end of season wrap parties have always felt arbitrary to Mackenzie. They’re in television, yes, but it wasn’t like there was an off season for them, a plot bow they could tie up, a clean break in the story. The news was messy, it was constant, it was encompassing. That was what she liked about it, even if it meant that the work never stopped and that the “season” was another notch in her contract negotiating belt more than it was anything substantive.
And it also meant an ACN-sponsored party with free booze, so she supposed she wouldn’t complain.
They’d have to pick up in the morning and start the next “season,” which is nothing more than the day’s newscast, but Mackenzie finds herself feeling reflective anyhow. She lets Wade know that she’s going to make a quick stop at her office, leaving him with an inebriated and chatty Sloan. Instead of heading to her office, she walks down the hallway and jams her thumb into the elevator button impatiently, anxious to get out to the quiet of the patio so she can think. She’s making a difference here, she knows. Her, and Jim, and Don, and Maggie, and even Will, she admits to herself reluctantly. They’re doing real news, important news, news that makes people better and more informed. And they’re doing it well enough that Will has time to despise her.
She bites her thumbnail as she strides over to the railing, looking out at the city below. So what if Will hated her?  He was entitled. He was the anchor and she was the EP. He respected her as his showrunner. She didn’t need him to like her.
She turns abruptly when she hears the door open behind her, not expecting to be interrupted. Of course,  she practically scowls to herself. Think of the devil, and the devil appears.
“What’re you doing all alone up here?” Will asks softly, in a tone that’s all too familiar to her, but one that she’s rarely heard since she’s been back.
“Just getting some air. The party’s pretty loud,” She says, turning back towards the street, not even looking at him. She can’t.
“Can we talk, Mackenzie?”  He asks, coming to stand next to her, bracing his hands on the rail.
“Of course,” she says, easily, as if it isn’t killing her just to feel the warmth of him radiating onto her arm. As if every moment of producing him, of owning him, wasn’t abject torture.
“I haven’t been very fair to you,” he admits, and although she’s shocked to hear it, Mackenzie chuffs out a laugh.
“A bit of an understatement, isn’t it?” She mutters under her breath.
“Yes,” he admits, and now she’s really aghast. She flicks her eyes up to his for the first time and finds him staring down at her. “I just wanted you to know… I had to tell you, Mackenzie, I don’t think I ever stopped loving you,”
“Will–”
“And I’m sorry if that’s hard for you to hear, or if you don’t feel the same way, but I think you do, Mack. I think you’re mad at me, and you have every right to be, but I think underneath that we both know that you and I—”
“Will, I’m engaged to Wade.”
She watches this revelation hit him like a brick wall, and it makes her cringe. A part of her hates herself for it. But it’s the truth. That’s what the two of them– what journalism, she mentally corrects herself, is all about, right? A wave of something unpleasant rolls over her as she realizes that the truth, the thing they spent day in and day out working towards, was going to take Will away from her for a second time.
“That’s not real. You’re not,” Will blusters.
“It most certainly is real, and I most certainly am!” She argues, getting angry now.
“Does he make you happy?” Will asks, and it has the timbre of a concerned, ages-old friend who only wants the best for her. But she knows better. He’s challenging her, just like he always does. It’s bait, and she won’t take it. He lets out a humorless chuff at her lack of response.
“What, and you think you do?!” She’s yelling, it’s unprofessional and unladylike and she doesn’t give a fuck. “You think I like this? You think I’m happy, coming into work every day and sitting next to you in every meeting and pretending like I’m—” she stops herself suddenly.
“Pretending like what, Mackenzie?” He asks, but she just holds his gaze. They know. They both know, and neither one of them will ever dare to say it for fear of being the greater fool.
“You don’t get to do this, Billy. You don’t get to condemn me to a life of unhappiness just because that’s the path you’ve chosen for yourself,” she commands him, as if speaking it aloud would make it so.
“This isn’t right. You know this isn’t right. I love you. You can’t tell me that you haven’t been waiting for years for me to say that. I know you have. I read the emails from when you were embedded.”
“You told me that you didn’t,” she whispered.
“I lied,” he whispered back, leaning in close to her.
“Well then I have absolutely no reason to believe that this isn’t a lie, too– another one of your godforsaken punishments,” she spits out, lunging away from him.
“It’s not. This is real, Mack. Unlike whatever the fuck you’re doing with Wade,” he twists the knife, unable to ignore it when it’s right in front of him.
“Fuck you, Billy. You know why I’m engaged to Wade? Because he’s not you. Say what you want about him, or about me, but he’s never hurt me on purpose. And I never did that to you either.”  She runs back into the building, leaves him on the balcony. He should follow her, should insist that their conversation isn’t over. But he knows, he knows deep down, that it is. He’d pushed, and pushed, and pushed, and she finally called uncle.
He pulls out the little blue box he’d had in his pocket and pitches it over the railing.

Steps in a skincare routine (+ tips)
Here are the usual steps (more details below):
Cleansing (essential)
Toner
Exfoliant/Exfoliator
Essence and Serum
Moisturizer (essential)
Sunscreen (essential)
Important tips are at the bottom of the post. (This is an extremely lengthy post with more to come.)
There are no product recommendations in this post.
Def. Cleansing/Cleanser:
Cleansing is washing your face with face soap. There's a different type of soap for your face probably because the skin on your face is more sensitive to things. Some cleansers also have ingredients to help you combat your skin concerns.
There are two types of cleansers: oil cleansers and water-based cleansers. If you use an oil cleanser, make sure to use a water-based cleanser afterward to wash off any remaining dirt/oil on your face (also because after an oil cleanser, your face might still feel oily). If you aren't using an oil cleanser, you can just use the water-based cleanser by itself. People usually use oil cleansers and double cleanse to remove makeup properly or to remove excess oil if you're skin is more on the oily side.
[Def. Double cleansing is using an oil cleanser and a water-based and a water-based cleanser as explained above.]
+ Gently rub in the cleanser for ~1 minute before rinsing it off so it can have its full effect. (1 minute for each cleanser.)
Def. Toner:
Toners are used as the final cleansing step (is what the internet says). They hydrate your face too. To be honest, i would just use a toner as an essence (step 4). Toners are optional and I do not do this step myself (if you want to use a toner just to cleanse your face, i honestly find it unnecessary).
Most people use it by pouring some of the product onto a cotton pad and swiping all over the face with it. Personally, i find it wasteful so i would recommend this instead:
+ Pour a bit of the toner into the palm of your hand and gently rub your two hands together to spread the product all over your hands and then tap the product onto your face.
The above tip applies to more watery toners. The application depends on the viscosity of the toner and the way it comes out of its container.
+ If it's in a spray bottle, just spray it onto your face and tap it in with your hands to make sure the product is spread all over your face.
+ If the toner is thicker and won't drip everywhere like water, just apply a few drops on your face and spread it with your hands. This could also work if the toner is in a bottle with an eyedropper. (For example, the bottles used for many of The Ordinary's products - not for their toner though.)
Def. Exfoliant/Exfoliator/Exfoliating/AHA/BHA:
Exfoliant or exfoliator - it's the same thing, they are synonyms.
Exfoliators help remove dead skin and dirt. The main reasons why you might want to use exfoliator: acne, changes in the color of your skin (like hyperpigmentation).
There are two categories: AHA (alpha hydroxy acids) and BHA (beta hydroxy acids). AHA seems to be better for skin color changes (hyperpigmentation) and BHA seems to be better for acne because of its antibacterial properties. (As a rule of thumb,)DO NOT USE BHA/AHA AND BHA/AHA AT THE SAME TIME. (You can use some at the same time depending on the situation. Look up what ingredients can't be mixed with the one you're inquiring about.) Here's an excerpt from my salicylic acid post about it:
"It should be fine if you use salicylic acid (BHA) for example in the morning and then use other BHAs or AHAs products at night because you washed your face before using the products, but i personally wouldn’t take the risk."
Some examples of AHAs:
Glycolic acid
Lactic acid
Mandelic acid
Some examples of BHAs:
Salicylic acid
Benzoyl peroxide
If you are unsure if your ingredient is a BHA or an AHA, just look it up. (Like "Is x BHA or AHA".) If an ingredient has "acid" in its name, it does not automatically mean it is a BHA or an AHA (as you'll see in the next step). Ingredients that have similar effects as BHAs or AHAs aren't all necessarily BHAs or AHAs, so you can use them together with BHAs or AHAs (ex. niacinamide, alpha arbutin, vitamin C).
+ The way you apply exfoliators may vary depending on the type. Look at the instructions on your bottle to proceed accordingly or you could end up overusing the product and damaging your skin.
+ For harsher exfoliants like salicylic acid (BHA), i prefer to do spot treatment. I would put a drop or a small amount of the product and apply it to the concerned areas. As a general rule of thumb, i would suggest doing spot treatment for exfoliants (especially BHAs).
+ Some exfoliants make your skin more sensitive to UV rays from the sun so make sure to apply sunscreen during the day (it also helps with the effectiveness of the exfoliant).
Scrubs are also a type of exfoliant, but i will not be talking about them since i have never used them on my face. Maybe i'll research it another time.
[Def. Scrubs (for your skin, not what health workers wear) are exfoliators with granules that you wash off like cleansers.]
Def. Essence and Serum
Essences and serums have the same effect: hydration and/or moisturization.
[Def. Hydration: Hydrating ingredients attracts water to the outermost layer of the skin. (Even if you use a bunch of hydrating serums and essences, drinking lots of water every day will help a lot with skin hydration (go drink water right now). You should be drinking 2L of water every day (i don't but do as i say, not as i do).)]
[Def. Moisturization: Moisturizing ingredients act as lubricants and lock in moisture and hydration. This is why we call cream/lotion* 'moisturizer'. Products advertised as 'moisturizing' often have moisturizing and hydrating properties.]
*The term 'lotion' on Japanese products refers to serums or essences, not moisturizers. It could also refer to lube but we're talking about skincare here.
To my understanding, the difference between serums and essences is their viscosity/thickness. Essences are less viscous/thinner and serums are more viscous/thicker. More on the order of application at the bottom in the tips.
+ If the product is watery, you can rub it in your hands before tapping it into your face.
+ If it is thicker, you can just put a few drops on your face directly and spread it.
Honestly, you can also put it in your hand first if you prefer doing it that way. I just prefer putting it on my face directly if the packaging allows me to do so because i want to use the least amount of product possible with it still being able to cover my whole face. (I usually use two drops. Tips about this are at the bottom.)
Def. Moisturizer:
Moisturizers are creams or lotions. As mentioned above, moisturizers are used to lock in hydration and moisture. Some moisturizers are thicker/heavier and some are lighter/thinner. It depends on your skin type and your preference.
If you have dryer skin, i would suggest thicker moisturizers because they feel more moisturizing and like they keep the moisture in better. If you have oilier skin (oiI), i would suggest lighter moisturizers so they feel less heavy because if it's thicker, it might feel like another uncomfortable layer of oil on your face. If you have combination skin, it is better to use a lighter moisturizer on oilier areas and a thicker moisturizer on dryer/not oily areas. This is just my opinion on the texture of moisturizers.
Def. Sunscreen
Sunscreens are also a crucial step in your routine. It protects your skin from sun damage - preventing sun spots and slowing down skin aging. UV rays can also worsen your hyperpigmentation - sunscreen can prevent that. Some products also work better with sun protection as mentioned in the exfoliant step.
Higher SPF levels mean that the sun protection lasts longer.
[Def. SPF is Sun Protection Factor.]
The highest is SPF 100, but you can just use SPF 50 (sometimes there are +++ besides the 50, meaning it is more than SPF 50 duh). SPF 100 sunscreens aren't easily accessible because the FDA (Food & Drug Administration of the US) deems some of the UVB filters (ingredients) generally not regarded as safe or effective. There isn't much difference between the two anyways;
SPF 100 blocks 99% of UVB rays
SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays
SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays
SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays
Most Asian sunscreens have SPF 50+, so i recommend looking at stores or websites that carry Asian beauty products for them. I also prefer using them because they are way less expensive than ones from Western brands and have a better texture than the Western drugstore sunscreens for a similar price. You also have more choices to fit your skin type better.
[Def. UV stands for ultraviolet (rays). They come from the sun.]
[Def. UVA stands for Ultraviolet A. It's a type of UV ray that has a longer wavelength and is associated with skin aging. UVA rays make up 95% of the UV rays that reach the ground - that reach your exposed skin.]
[Def. UVB stands for Ultraviolet B. It's a type of UV ray that has a shorter wavelength and is associated with skin burning. UVB rays make up 5% of the UV rays that reach the ground - that reach your exposed skin.]
The SPF number also tells you the amount the time it protects you before you need to reapply. For example, if your skin burns in 1 minute, SPF 50 can protect you for 50 minutes (this is just an example, i don't think most of us get sunburned in one minute).
The more melanin you have (what provides pigmentation to your hair, eyes, and skin), the more ultraviolet protection you have - the longer your skin doesn't burn without sunscreen. That is why people with light eyes, hair, and skin get sunburnt more easily and people with darker hair, eyes, and skin get sunburnt less easily.
Reapplication time: every 2 hours (every time you get out of the water if you're swimming outdoors).
Sunscreens can come in cream, stick, and powder form. The latter two are better used as reapplication though. Even with the label indicating SPF 50, sun sticks and powder don't have the full SPF 50 protection in one layer. You need to apply an uncomfortable amount of layers of the product to get to SPF 50. At that point, i would just wash my hands and apply the regular sunscreen.
[Def. PA stands for Protection Grade of UVA. These ratings measure a product's ability to block UVA rays. You can find PA ratings on sunscreens, makeup, and skincare products. The number of '+' beside 'PA' indicates the amount of UVA protection;
PA+ | Some UVA protection
PA++ | Moderate UVA protection
PA+++ | High UVA protection
PA++++ | Extremely high UVA protection.]
Basically, if you're looking to prevent sunburns, look for a high SPF (50). If you're looking to slow down skin aging, look for a high PA (++++). You can easily find these ratings on Asian sunscreens.
Important tips (these aren't suggestions unless i say so):
Make sure to wash your hands properly with soap for 20 seconds, making sure to clean your nails and your finger slits before applying anything to your face. Even before cleansing. Maybe you're breaking out because you're touching your hands with filthy musty hands.
[Def. Breaking out in pimples] Am i overdoing the definitions...?
Do patch tests. You never know if your skin would react badly to a certain ingredient. For a more accurate result, you should do the patch test on your face. Patch testing is crucial for people with sensitive skin.
[Def. A patch test is pretty self-explanatory; testing on a patch of skin (not your whole face).]
Order of application of your products: the essential steps are in the order i wrote at the beginning of this post (cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen). All the other steps are sandwiched between the cleanser and the moisturizer. If you aren't sure of the order of your exfoliators and/or of your serums and essence, just go from thin to thick - lower viscosity to higher viscosity. This is the reason why the steps in a skincare routine are as they are. Toners are generally thinner than exfoliators, exfoliators are generally thinner than serums, and essences are generally thinner than serums. If you noticed, this means you can use essences before exfoliators. That is why i said i would use toners as essences since they are essentially the same in texture and use (in my opinion). Regarding these middle steps, i do not think it is necessary to follow the toner, exfoliator, essence, serum order.
Using a little product for a big surface: the trick is to dot your product in every area of your face before spreading it. If you just put your product in one area of your face and spread it from there, the first areas will already absorb most of the product before it reaches the rest of your face.
I first put 2 drops of the serum/essence on my finger or my face (it depends on the packaging - whatever's easier) and then tap it around my face with one finger: two dots of product (still from the same 2 drops) on each of my cheeks, one or two on my forehead, and one on my chin. Then i spread it and tap the product in, making sure my whole face is covered. (This can go for any other product that you use all over your face.) Obviously you can need more or less to cover your face because we don't all have the same face size, so adjust as needed.
Rubbing or tapping? Should you rub in your product or tap it in? I tap it in. I mentioned above that i spread the product before tapping it in, but you can also tap it in without doing that. I just find it more time efficient to spread it first. When i say spreading, i don't mean it as rubbing. I spread the product lightly with my finger without tugging at my skin, letting my finger slide across my face with the product. I don't do this with all products (like a thick moisturizer), but most of the time i do.
If you're afraid of wrinkles, i suggest tapping in your product like i explained above. I just prefer tapping because it feel nicer and fancier. Also because i'm Asian like Cho Chang from Harry Potter (what a meaningful and beautiful name - J.K. Rowling is truly great at being a bigot).
I will add more tips if i think of more.

Boost Your Energy and Gut Health with Colostrum Powder
If you're on the lookout for a natural way to enhance your energy levels and improve gut health, bovine colostrum could be your next best friend. Known for its powerful immune-boosting properties and overall health benefits, cow colostrum powder is gaining popularity as a go-to supplement for both fitness enthusiasts and those looking to support their overall well-being. Let's dive into how colostrum powder can support your body and elevate your health game.
Tumblr media
What Is Bovine Colostrum?
Bovine colostrum, or cow colostrum, is the first milk produced by cows after giving birth, and it’s packed with essential nutrients, antibodies, growth factors, and proteins that are vital for the growth and development of newborn calves. But here's the best part—colostrum powder is packed with nutrients that support human health as well. In fact, it's been used for centuries to boost immunity and promote healing.
The Key Benefits of Colostrum Powder
Boost Energy Levels NaturallyThe high concentration of growth factors in bovine colostrum can help your body perform better and recover faster. By increasing cellular regeneration and helping with tissue repair, cow colostrum powder ensures that you feel energized and restored after physical activity. If you're working out or living an active lifestyle, colostrum powder can support your stamina and energy levels, helping you push through the day without the post-workout crash.
Improve Gut HealthYour gut health is the foundation of your immune system, and bovine colostrum is a powerful ally in nurturing it. Colostrum powder contains probiotics and immunoglobulins, which help support a balanced microbiome in the gut. This ensures better digestion, enhanced nutrient absorption, and overall better health. If you've been struggling with digestive issues, cow colostrum might be just what your system needs to regulate and restore balance.
Natural Immune SupportOne of the key reasons bovine colostrum is celebrated is its ability to strengthen the immune system. Packed with immunoglobulins (antibodies), cow colostrum powder helps fight off infections and boost overall immunity. For people who tend to catch every cold or feel constantly run down, adding colostrum powder to your daily routine can support your immune system, making it stronger and more resilient.
Muscle Recovery & PerformanceWhether you're an athlete or just someone who enjoys working out, colostrum powder offers fantastic benefits when it comes to muscle recovery. The natural growth factors and proteins in bovine colostrum help repair muscle tissue and reduce inflammation after a workout. This makes it easier for you to recover quickly, and in turn, enhances your muscle-building efforts. This natural muscle builder is an excellent alternative to chemical-laden supplements.
Helps With Skin HealthBelieve it or not, cow colostrum also has skin benefits. The growth factors and nutrients in bovine colostrum help with skin regeneration, making it beneficial for people dealing with acne, dry skin, or other skin conditions. Whether taken internally or applied topically, colostrum can rejuvenate your skin, promoting a healthy glow from within.
How to Incorporate Bovine Colostrum into Your Routine
Incorporating colostrum powder into your daily routine is easy and can be done in several ways. One of the most popular methods is to mix it with your post-workout shake or smoothie. You can also add it to your morning coffee, tea, or even yogurt for a simple boost. The powder is tasteless and blends well with most foods and drinks, so you can enjoy all its benefits without altering the flavor of your meal.
If you’re not keen on powders, cow colostrum is also available in capsules, making it easy to get your daily dose while on the go.
Why Choose Bovine Colostrum?
You might be wondering why you should choose bovine colostrum over other supplements. The answer lies in its natural, nutrient-dense profile. Unlike synthetic supplements, colostrum powder provides a complete range of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and growth factors that the body needs to thrive. It’s an all-in-one supplement for improving immunity, muscle recovery, gut health, and overall vitality—without the need for multiple products.
Is Bovine Colostrum Safe?
Yes, bovine colostrum is considered safe for most people. Since it’s a natural supplement, it generally has fewer side effects compared to synthetic products. However, if you’re allergic to dairy or have lactose intolerance, you may want to check with a healthcare professional before adding cow colostrum powder to your diet. Also, as with any supplement, it's always a good idea to consult with a doctor, especially if you have pre-existing health conditions or are on medication.
The Bottom Line: Why Bovine Colostrum Should Be Your Go-To Health Supplement
From boosting energy levels to supporting gut health, bovine colostrum offers a multitude of benefits that can elevate your well-being. Whether you're an athlete, someone with digestive issues, or just looking for a natural way to support your immune system, cow colostrum powder has got you covered. Its all-natural formula is a safe and effective addition to your daily routine, making it easier to lead a healthier, more active lifestyle.
Incorporating bovine colostrum into your routine doesn’t just support your body physically—it also promotes long-term health and wellness. So, if you're ready to elevate your game, recover faster, and feel more energized, give colostrum powder a try. You might just find that it’s the missing piece in your health and fitness puzzle.

Unlock Radiant Skin: The Benefits of Face Brightening Serum
In today’s fast-paced world, achieving glowing and radiant skin can feel like an uphill battle. With environmental stressors, pollution, and a hectic lifestyle, our skin often takes a toll. One solution that has gained significant popularity in recent years is the face brightening serum. This powerful skincare product is designed to enhance skin tone, improve radiance, and provide a more youthful appearance. In this article, we will explore the benefits of face brightening serums and how they can be integrated into your skincare routine.
Understanding Face Brightening Serums
Face brightening serums are lightweight formulations that typically contain active ingredients such as vitamin C, niacinamide, alpha arbutin, and licorice extract. These components work synergistically to inhibit melanin production, reduce dark spots, and brighten overall skin tone. The consistency of these serums allows for quick absorption, ensuring that your skin receives the full benefits of these potent ingredients.
Benefits of Using Face Brightening Serums
Reduction of Dark Spots and Hyperpigmentation
One of the primary benefits of using a face brightening serum is its ability to target dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Ingredients like vitamin C and alpha arbutin are known for their brightening properties, helping to fade discoloration over time. Regular application can lead to a more even skin tone and a reduction in the appearance of age spots, sun spots, and post-acne scars.
Enhanced Radiance and Glow
Face brightening serums can transform dull, lackluster skin into a radiant and healthy complexion. The active ingredients stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture, leading to a youthful glow. When used consistently, these serums can help you achieve that coveted lit-from-within look, making your skin appear more vibrant and youthful.
Hydration and Nourishment
Many face brightening serums are infused with hydrating agents like hyaluronic acid and glycerin. These ingredients help retain moisture, preventing dryness and flakiness. Well-hydrated skin not only looks plumper but also feels smoother and more elastic. This hydration boost complements the brightening effects, giving your skin a well-rounded treatment.
Prevention of Future Damage
Incorporating a face brightening serum into your skincare routine can also act as a preventative measure against future skin damage. By reducing melanin production, these serums can help shield your skin from the harmful effects of UV rays, pollution, and other environmental stressors. This proactive approach can lead to healthier skin in the long run.
How to Incorporate Face Brightening Serum into Your Routine
To maximize the benefits of your face brightening serum, it’s essential to apply it correctly within your skincare regimen:
Cleanse Your Skin
Start with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt, oil, and impurities. Using a no soap cleanser is ideal for maintaining the skin’s natural barrier without stripping it of essential moisture. This step prepares your skin to effectively absorb the subsequent products.
Apply the Serum
After cleansing, pat your skin dry and apply a few drops of face brightening serum to your fingertips. Gently press the serum into your skin, focusing on areas with dark spots or uneven tone. Allow the serum to absorb fully before moving on to the next step in your routine.
Moisturize
Follow up with a suitable moisturizer to lock in the serum’s benefits. If you’re looking for additional brightening effects, consider using a skin brightening body lotion that complements your serum. This can help maintain a uniform glow from your face to your body.
Sun Protection
In the morning, always finish your skincare routine with a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Sun exposure can counteract the effects of your brightening serum and lead to further pigmentation. Choosing a sunscreen that is non-comedogenic will help protect your skin without clogging your pores.
Weekly Treatments
To enhance the effects of your face brightening serum, incorporate weekly treatments such as a detan face pack. These packs can help exfoliate dead skin cells, further improving your skin’s texture and brightness. Look for formulas that contain natural ingredients for the best results.
Conclusion
Incorporating a face brightening serum into your skincare routine can significantly enhance your skin’s appearance, making it look more radiant, youthful, and even-toned. With consistent use and the right complementary products, such as a skin brightening body lotion or a detan face pack, you can achieve the glowing complexion you’ve always desired. By prioritizing your skincare and choosing the right products, you can combat the effects of environmental stressors and unveil your skin’s natural beauty. Embrace the power of face brightening serums, and unlock the secret to luminous skin today!

Tumblr media
Must Haves in a Korean Skincare Routine
A Korean skincare routine has many products each serving a specific purpose for skin health and glow. The 10 step routine is a guide not a rule so you can customize based on your skin needs. This flexibility allows you to address specific skin concerns so your skin gets the care it needs. From cleansers to sunscreens each step of the routine is designed to benefit your skin. Let’s get into the must haves of a Korean skincare routine starting with cleansers. Cleansers Cleansing is the first step of any skincare routine and K beauty puts a lot of importance on this. The double cleansing method where you use an oil based cleanser followed by a water based cleanser ensures all impurities are removed without stripping the skin of its natural oils. Oil based cleansers are great at dissolving makeup and sebum while water based cleansers target dirt and sweat leaving the skin clean and balanced. This two step process not only cleanses thoroughly but also prepares the skin for the rest of your routine. Proper cleansing maintains a healthy skin barrier and makes subsequent products more effective. Toners and Essences Toners and essences are the next step in preparing the skin for the rest of your skincare routine. Unlike traditional astringent toners that can be harsh and drying K toners are designed to balance the skin’s pH and provide hydration making the skin more receptive to subsequent products. For example: - COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner clears up your pores, and helps to keep the skin hydrated. Essences are lightweight and hydrating and deliver essential nutrients to the skin. They often contain ingredients like rice water tea which is known for its brightening and hydrating properties. Together these two ensure your skin is ready to absorb the benefits of serums and moisturizers that follow. Serums and Ampoules Serums and ampoules are the heavy hitters of a Korean skincare routine delivering concentrated ingredients that target specific skin concerns. Serums address fine lines, pigmentation and acne and are more potent than regular moisturizers. Ampoules are even more potent than serums and are used intermittently for an intensive treatment during times of need. Using these concentrated formulas helps to address and treat various skin concerns and you’ll see noticeable improvements in skin health and appearance. - Dr. Esthé Azulene Relief Solution Ampoule that fights breakouts and helps regulate sebum production. The green tea water base adds antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and calming benefits to help keep your skin looking healthy. - Dr. Esthé Rejuvenating Ampoule which is known to reverse the signs of aging by reducing wrinkles, improving skin elasticity, and firming skin texture. It also has healing properties to repair damaged skin. - Dr. Esthé MGF Renewal Solution Ampoule that helps improve the appearance of aging skin. The ampoule's special ingredient, snail mucin, is rich in nutrients and helps improve skin elasticity, tone, and texture. Additionally, the nine potent peptides help to reduce the visible signs of aging. - Dr. Esthé Vita-C Radiance Solution Ampoule help correct dark spots, dull skin, acne scars, pigmentation, and sunspots. Suitable for all skin types, this lightweight formula helps prevent melanin formation for a brighter complexion. Moisturizers and Sunscreens Moisturizers and sunscreens are the last line of defense for a healthy skin barrier and to protect your skin from environmental damage. Moisturizers provide hydration and prevent moisture loss often containing occlusive agents that lock in hydration. These products are designed to soothe and protect the skin so it stays soft and supple. Sunscreens are the last line of defense against UV rays. Korean sunscreens often contain skin nourishing ingredients like rice extract and probiotics that provide hydration and extra skin benefits. Using these products protects your skin from sun damage and helps to maintain a youthful glow.
Masks for an Amazing Glow
Masks are a part of Korean skincare and provides a range of benefits from hydration to treating specific skin concerns. Sheet masks are popular for its ability to deliver intense hydration and instant results because it’s soaked in high concentration serums. - InnerNature K-BU Natural Mask for example combines Centella Asiatica Extractdelivers calming relief and intense hydration, leaving your skin feeling refreshed and revitalized. You might heard about rice is very popular in Korean skincare because it does contain vitamin b3, ferulic acid and other ingredients that gives numerous benefits for the skin. - I’m From Rice Mask exfoliates skin to reveal a brighter and smoother complexion. For dry or sensitive skin masks with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and snail mucin are a must. Sleep masks like the Sulwhasoo Overnight Vitalizing Mask are designed to nourish the skin overnight so it’s perfect for those who want to wake up with a radiant and well rested complexion.
Korean Skincare for Skin Concerns
One of the best things about Korean skincare is its focus on prevention and personalized care. Instead of waiting for skin issues to arise the philosophy of prevention addresses skin concerns before they develop. This proactive approach is supported by a wide range of products for specific skin concerns from acne to aging. Knowing your skin type and goals is key to creating a skincare routine that suits you. By knowing your personal skincare goals like minimizing wrinkles or pore size you can choose products that addresses those concerns. Let’s look at how Korean skincare solves two common problems: acne and wrinkles. Acne Solutions Acne can be a persistent problem but Korean skincare has various solutions to manage and treat breakouts. Salicylic acid and tea tree oil are common ingredients in acne treatment products that battles breakouts while keeping the skin in balance. By incorporating these targeted treatments in your skincare routine you’ll have clearer and healthier skin. Korean people also avoid these skincare ingredient when they have acne: coconut oil or mineral oil, Anti-Wrinkle Treatments As we age maintaining a youthful complexion is a top priority and Korean skincare has anti-wrinkle treatments to help you achieve that. The Peptide Pro Firming Moisturizer by Peach & Lily is formulated to target wrinkles and youthful skin so it’s a popular choice. Comparing Glycolic Acid Toners: The Minimalist vs. The Ordinary
In this article, I will compare two popular exfoliating toners: the 8% Glycolic Acid Toner from The Minimalist and the 7% Glycolic Acid Toner from The Ordinary.
Both products use glycolic acid as the active exfoliating ingredient, a well-known AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) that helps remove dead skin cells and improve skin texture.
How Glycolic Acid Works
Glycolic acid works by breaking the bonds between dead skin cells on the outer layer of your skin, allowing them to fall off more easily.
These stubborn cells often cling to each other, leading to clogged pores, breakouts, and a dull complexion.
Cleansing alone cannot break these bonds; this is where glycolic acid, a chemical exfoliant, comes in.
When applied to the skin, glycolic acid targets the bonds between these old cells, breaking the chains and allowing the dead skin to slough off, revealing newer, fresher skin underneath.
Glycolic acid concentrations vary, with lower percentages (5-7%) considered mild, medium-strength concentrations (8-10%), and stronger products above 10%.
In this comparison, The Minimalist toner contains 8% glycolic acid, while The Ordinary’s toner has 7%, making the former slightly stronger.
Side Effects of Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid, while effective, can irritate the skin. This is because glycolic acid has the smallest molecular size among AHAs, allowing it to penetrate deeper into the skin.
While this enhances its effectiveness, it can also increase the risk of irritation. However, irritation can be minimized by choosing the right glycolic acid product and following proper post-exfoliation care.
The Ordinary vs. The Minimalist: Which Is Better?
For Sensitive Skin:
If you have sensitive skin, The Ordinary’s 7% Glycolic Acid Toner may be the better choice due to its lower concentration.
However, it contains certain ingredients like flower waters, which, while soothing for some, may cause irritation in others, particularly when used in an exfoliating product.
Ingredient List:
The Minimalist 8% Glycolic Acid Toner takes a more straightforward approach. It doesn't contain potentially irritating ingredients like fragrance or flower waters, which makes it more suitable for those who prefer minimal ingredients in their skincare routine.
Despite its higher glycolic acid concentration, it’s designed to deliver the benefits of exfoliation without added irritation.
Hydration and pH:
Both products have the correct pH range (3.5-4), which is essential for glycolic acid to function effectively without irritating the skin.
In terms of hydration, The Ordinary offers more hydrating and anti-inflammatory ingredients, which can help soothe the skin post-exfoliation.
Pricing
If you’re in India, The Minimalist is a more affordable option compared to The Ordinary, making it an easy choice based on price.
Globally, The Minimalist is still slightly cheaper, but the price difference may not be as significant.
Key Benefits of Glycolic Acid
Both toners offer similar skincare benefits:
Exfoliation: Glycolic acid removes dead skin cells, brightening your complexion.
Breakout Prevention: By keeping pores clear, it reduces the chances of acne, blackheads, and whiteheads.
Hyperpigmentation Reduction: Glycolic acid helps fade surface-level hyperpigmentation by sloughing off pigmented skin cells. However, it won't affect deeper hyperpigmentation, which requires other treatments.
How to Use Glycolic Acid Toners
Use at Night: Always exfoliate at night, as it allows your skin to recover without exposure to sunlight.
Post-Exfoliation Care: After applying the toner, leave it on for a minute or two, then follow up with a hydrating, non-irritating moisturizer. Anti-inflammatory ingredients can help calm the skin.
Sunscreen Is a Must: After exfoliating, your skin becomes more sensitive to the sun, so always apply sunscreen the next morning, even if you’re indoors.
Start Slowly: Begin with 2 days a week and gradually increase to 3, depending on how your skin reacts. Avoid exfoliating if you've recently undergone treatments like waxing or microneedling, as the skin will be more vulnerable.
Chemical vs. Physical Exfoliants
Chemical exfoliants like glycolic acid are generally gentler on the skin than physical exfoliants (e.g., scrubs). Physical exfoliants use abrasive particles to slough off dead skin, which can cause irritation, leading to pigmentation and damage. Therefore, chemical exfoliants are often preferred for smoother, less abrasive exfoliation.
Conclusion
Both The Ordinary and The Minimalist toners are excellent choices, but your decision should be based on your skin type and tolerance.
The Minimalist’s no-fuss, minimal ingredient list makes it a safer option for many, especially if you’re looking for an affordable product with fewer potential irritants.
In conclusion, I personally recommend The Minimalist 8% Glycolic Acid Toner for its effectiveness, price point, and minimalistic approach.

Adds Shine and Softness: Regular application of aloe vera gel can help restore moisture to the hair, making it softer and shinier.
Tip: Massage aloe vera gel into your scalp and hair, leave it on for 30 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly for a natural hair treatment.

The Health Benefits of Honey: Nature's Sweetest Superfood
Honey is more than just a natural sweetener; it's a powerhouse of health benefits. This golden liquid, often referred to as "nature's elixir," has been cherished for centuries for its medicinal and nutritional properties. In this post, we'll delve into the myriad health benefits of honey and why it deserves a place in your daily diet.
Tumblr media
1. Rich in Antioxidants
Honey is packed with antioxidants, including phenolic acids and flavonoids. These compounds help neutralize free radicals in the body, reducing oxidative stress and lowering the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. The darker the honey, the higher its antioxidant content.
2. Soothes Coughs and Sore Throats
Honey has long been used as a natural remedy for coughs and sore throats. Its soothing properties help coat the throat, reducing irritation and providing relief. Studies have shown that honey is as effective as some over-the-counter cough suppressants, making it a preferred choice for many.
3.Wound Healing and Antibacterial Properties
Honey's antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties make it an effective treatment for wounds and burns. Manuka honey, in particular, is renowned for its potent antibacterial activity. Applying honey to wounds can help prevent infection and promote faster healing.
4. Improves Digestive Health
Honey can be a soothing remedy for digestive issues. It acts as a prebiotic, promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut. This can help alleviate symptoms of indigestion and improve overall digestive health. Honey is also gentle on the stomach, making it a good choice for those with sensitive digestive systems.
5.Enhances Skin Health
Honey is a common ingredient in natural skincare products due to its moisturizing and antibacterial properties. It helps keep the skin hydrated, fights acne-causing bacteria, and promotes a healthy, glowing complexion. You can use honey as a face mask or spot treatment to reap these benefits.
6.Supports Heart Health
Regular consumption of honey can contribute to better heart health. The antioxidants in honey help reduce blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels, and lower the risk of heart disease. Honey's anti-inflammatory properties also support overall cardiovascular health.
7. Boosts Immune System
The antimicrobial properties of honey make it an excellent immune booster. Consuming honey regularly can help strengthen your immune system, making you less susceptible to illnesses. Honey is particularly beneficial during cold and flu season
8.Natural Remedy for Allergies
Local honey is believed to help with seasonal allergies. It contains small amounts of pollen, which can help the body build a tolerance to local allergens. While scientific evidence on this benefit is limited, many people swear by this natural remedy.
Incorporating honey into your daily routine is an easy and delicious way to enhance your overall health. Whether you drizzle it on your morning toast, mix it into your tea, or use it as a natural remedy, honey's health benefits are undeniable. Remember to choose raw, unprocessed honey to maximize its nutritional value. So, the next time you reach for a sweetener, consider opting for honey – nature's sweetest superfood
