Focusing on Positive Energy
I'm having better days. I've made some changes, like spending LESS time on social media and using my phone less in general.
No more using the phone on the toilet! I know it's silly, but let's be honest, that's where most social media consumption happens. Instead, I've put some comic books in the bathroom and now I enjoy reading while "taking care of business."
Tumblr is the only social media platform I still use a bit. It's a safer space, it's slower, and it helps me express my thoughts without having to interact with "people I know."
I need to get my energy and focus back.
In the morning, first things first: meditation.
Then, I go to the gym four times per week to build muscle and get stronger and stronger.
Planning my day also helps, from smaller to bigger tasks. It gives me a sense of control and fulfillment.
And last but not least, I take a lot of walks. Walking in my village, in the calm of the Dutch summer, just me and my audiobooks, calms my nerves.
Whenever bad thoughts come, I repeat my positive affirmations, which I also keep on a note on my phone. So when I'm tempted to go on social media, I open that note instead.
And when things get really bad, I blast some good music and dance around. It might sound silly, but it's scientifically proven that physical activity can improve your mood and give you a bit of endorphins to keep you happy.
So far, this is working pretty well (along with therapy), and my second week of job hunting has been less desperate than the first one.

“A study from the European Journal of Social Psychology found an average of 66 days was required to form a habit”
You can literally train yourself to do new things in 66 days. In just two months, you can go from a person who doesn’t make their bed when they wake up, to being one who does.

Let's begin
I've started a new challenge from Instagram on Monday 10/11/21. Cabi, a girl who I'm following for a while now, made a guideline for a challenge and it's on me to make it work. Since I'm a Libra *excuses* and I can not commit on spot, I'm giving a week to improve the rules that I will follow for the next 6 weeks (and hopefully for the rest of my life).
Rules:
Per week *this open to change*:
2x 1h workout
3x 30min jumping rope
1x 10.000 steps
Per day:
1500-1700 cal
10min meditation and/or yoga
Tumblr media
The goal is to lose weight and decrease the stress I'm piling up past 2 years. I know that scale doesn't decide who or what I am, but I also know that I'm happier when I have 20 pounds less.

Silver Linings
I’ve been pretty negative the past few weeks, just sitting in my puddle of pity and splashing people in the face if they came near or tried to pull me from wallowing in my many woes. Even those that you would think are the strongest still fall. I had to climb out of the hell I was allowing to take over my life {or drug out kicking and screaming} I had to get out of there before I let it consume…

So it has been a week since I started meditating daily and I can say I have done it every morning for 10 minutes for the past 7 days! I have already learnt a lot along the way. 1. I can now get into half-lotus so easily with a straight back and Dhyana mudra. I spent the first few days wiggling about before I got comfortable otherwise. 2. Meditation slows the world down. I thought starting at 10 minutes would be easy, but it makes you really realise how long 10 minutes actually is. 3. Breathing is key. I always need to take some time to swap to deeper, diaphragm based breathing as otherwise my mind is more chaotic. 4. Even now I spend a lot of time labelling chaotic thoughts. Typically these are 'thoughts about social media', 'thoughts about the future' or 'thoughts about material things'. This has helped me learn a lot about myself...not all good. I almost never worry about the past, but I am future focused and quite materialistic. 5. Charlotte Joko Beck recommends labelling thoughts with a more specific label like 'thoughts about the future' or 'sound of a car' rather than 'sound' or 'thought' and this really helps. By spending a bit more effort addressing the thought I feel I'm accepting it as opposed to dismissing it. 6. Meditating in a morning, first thing, in my PJs always ends with me acknowledging how hungry I am, whereas otherwise I would eat breakfast because I should but not necessarily because my body was telling me I was hungry yet. I dunno what this means or if it has anything to do with metabolism etc. But it is something I've noticed. 7. Having my eyes closed is actually more difficult and distracting. The zazen method of looking 2m ahead and slightly downward with eyes partially closed is actually more focusing for me. I will do another post when I hit a month and we shall see where I am at. I am mainly focusing on a mindfulness and breath meditation in the mornings as this fits my lifestyle best. . . . . . . #meditation #meditate #mindfulness #mindful #journal #diary #daily #dailypractice #newhabits #habit #routine #breath #breathing #zen #zazen #sitting #dhyana #mudras #yoga #reiki #energy #lotus #halflotus #poses #thoughts #reflect https://www.instagram.com/p/CRBZdwFNE6P/?utm_medium=tumblr

How to practice self-reflection
Yesterday in my ‘Christmas Reflections’ blog I talked about self-reflection. Today, I thought I would elaborate a little further on self-reflection, what it is and why it’s important to take time to self-reflect.
Taking time out to set yourself new goals, self-reflection is a great way to start your journey with self-reflection.
What is self-reflection?
Self-reflection is taking time out to look back over previous events to learn and improve on actions taken. This could be thinking back over goals and achievements, reviewing how you got there and the outcome. Or looking back over a situation, how you handled it and reflecting on your attitude and feelings at that time.
Benefits of self-reflection
Self-reflection helps narrow focus, highlight areas of improvement, and help individuals to reach their goals.
Other benefits include:
Reduces stress levels
Taking time to understand what has gone well and what has been a challenge can help you in future situations. Being open to adopting a mindful and productive approach can ease feelings of stress and uncertainty.
Improves relationships
Self-reflection gives you time to assess relationships as well as situations. Practising self-reflection is beneficial for evaluating how you feel about the relationship, rather than simply being reactive.
Allows for better decision making
Time is invaluable when making decisions, and practising self-reflection gives you the opportunity to think about your decisions, before you make a decision.
Creates room for growth
While it may feel uncomfortable to look back on some experiences, particularly challenging ones, acknowledging your previous actions, what you’ve overcome and what you’ve learnt as a result, enables you to move forward with an empowered and fresh outlook on life.
There isn’t a right or wrong way to practise self-reflection. Depending on how much time you put aside and the environment you’re in, you can use different methods to complete your practice. Self-reflection is different for each of us.
Keeping a daily and weekly journal is a great way to ask yourself some basic questions in order to assess how you are doing and what areas you might need to focus on more.
I use the following questions:
Daily reflections may include:
How do I feel today?
How could I have handled the situation?
What did I take from that situation?
Was I to blame or could others have handled themselves better?
Weekly Reflection
What are my top 5 priorities? (actions)
What’s working (do more of this) & what isn’t working (do less of this)?
Am I making the right decisions for the long term?
What will I regret when I’m 80?
What are the recurring issues that I’m struggling with that I need to fix?
Your questions may differ depending on your issues, or situation. Simply write the answers down in a journal to get an overview of how you’re progressing over time.
Self-reflection is a way of life. It is something that can be used in all situations. It is also something used to identify areas of your life that you would and can change. It is particularly useful for working through your experience. It is something we can continue to use. Once you have it, it's something that stays with you for life.
I couldn't have done what I have done with my blog The CP Diary, without the use of self-reflection.

Starting over.
I haven’t had a blog in forever. I had one in high school but I honestly can’t remember the log in anymore. I’m really excited to use this as a way of explaining myself to people who don’t know me. It’ll be refreshing to have a little getaway online.
I’m at a phase in my life where I am completely starting over.
Social media is becoming toxic, so I will resort to using a blog as my coping and venting and scrolling through for positivity.
I am a gardener, landscaper, camper, artist, small business owner, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. I am a daughter of Christ.
I am starting over, here.
Follow if you’re interested in being my new friend!!! :)
