African drums and the words “All power to the people” echoed in Harlem, New York, on Sunday, Aug. 20, as the blue flag emblazoned with a black panther flew again.
On that day, veterans of the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army and supporters old and young assembled to rename 122nd Street and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard as Black Panther Way. The Harlem Headquarters of the BPP stood at 2026 Adam Clayton Powell from 1968 to 1976.

Burton Constable Hall
Hi guys!!
I'm sharing Burton Constable Hall. This is the 19th building for my English Collection.
I decorated most of the house ground floor, for reference.
History of the house: Burton Constable Hall is a large Elizabethan country house in England, with 18th- and 19th-century interiors.
Despite its apparent uniformity of style, Burton Constable has a long and complicated building history. The lower part of the north tower, built from limestone, is the oldest part of the house to survive and dates to the 12th century, when a medieval pele tower served to protect the village of Burton Constable from the time of the reign of King Stephen. In the late 15th century a new brick manor house was built at Burton Constable, eventually replacing Halsham as the family's principal seat. In the 1560s Sir John Constable embarked on the building of the Elizabethan prodigy house that stands today. This incorporated remains of the earlier manor house along with the addition of the new range containing a Great Hall, which rose the full height of the building and was top-lit by a lantern, along with a Parlour, Chambers and South Wing.
By the 18th century, the Great Hall must have seemed old fashioned, and a surviving design of c. 1730 suggests that Cuthbert Constable intended to completely remodel the interior. However, it appears that remodelling was not undertaken until the 1760s when his son William Constable commissioned a number of architects for designs. These included John Carr, Timothy Lightoler and Capability Brown. The decorative plasterwork was executed by James Henderson of York. At this time, Constable also acquired the plaster figures of Demosthenes and Hercules with Cerberus, and plaster busts of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus and the Greek poet Sappho, from the sculptor John Cheere. Above the fireplace is a carving of oak boughs and garlands of laurel leaves, crowned by the Garter Star, surrounding the armorial shield of the Constable family in scagliola by Domenico Bartoli.
The dining room was substantially remodelled by William Constable in the 1760s, who commissioned designs from Robert Adam, Thomas Atkinson, and Timothy Lightoler (who won the commission). The ceiling draws on contemporary interest in the excavations at Pompeii and Herculaneum, with plasterwork by Giuseppe Cortese. The overmantel plaque of Bacchus and Ariadne riding on a panther was modelled on famous antique cameos illustrated in Pierres Antiques Gravées, published 1724 by Philip, Baron von Stosch and Bernard Picart. This room was again redecorated in the 19th century.

On this day, 21 June 1964, three civil rights workers were murdered by police and Ku Klux Klan members in Mississippi. James Earl Chaney, a 21-year-old Black former union-plasterer and organiser with the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) from nearby Meridian, Mississippi, Andrew Goodman (pictured bottom, left), a 20-year-old Jewish anthropology student from New York, and Michael 'Mickey' Schwerner, a 24-year-old Jewish CORE organiser and former social worker from New York were lynched on the night of June 21–22 by members of the Mississippi White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, the Neshoba County's Sheriff Office and the Philadelphia Police Department located in Philadelphia, Mississippi. The three had been working on the "Freedom Summer" campaign, attempting to register Black people to vote. While seven of the killers ended up being jailed on federal charges of civil rights violations, the state of Mississippi didn't prosecute anyone for the murders until 2005, when they eventually charged one of the killers with manslaughter. He was then convicted and sentenced to 60 years imprisonment. Chaney's younger brother Ben later joined the Black Panther Party and the urban guerrilla group the Black Liberation Army, for which he ended up serving 13 years in prison. Bracket Challenge Contest: Finals Edition
A bit late, with the Conference Finals bundled in, but here's the results of the bracket challenge. Let's see how we all did:
First, the Conference Finals.
Who's making it to the Eastern Conference Finals (Metro):
Carolina Hurricanes 41% New York Rangers 31% Washington Capitals 23% New York Islanders 5%
Who's Making it to the Eastern Conference Finals (Atlantic):
Florida Panthers 37% Toronto Maple Leafs 31% Boston Bruins 20% Tampa Bay Lightning 12%
Who's making it to the Western Conference Finals (Pacific + Sneaky Central):
Vancouver Canucks 49% Edmonton Oilers 34% Los Angeles Kings 11% Nashville Predators 6%
Who's making it to the Western Conference Finals (Central + Sneaky Pacific):
Dallas Stars 38% Colorado Avalanche 32% Vegas Golden Knights 21% Winnipeg Jets 10%
Other than some Canucks and Leafs overestimation, the predictions were pretty good, honestly! In a completely random world, the eventual winners would receive 25% of the vote, but 7/8 of the top picks made it to the conference semi-finals (Leafs the exception), and the eventual conference finalists received an average 35% of the vote.
Now let's check out the Finals:
Who's winning it all?
Vancouver Canucks 15% Toronto Maple Leafs 10% Dallas Stars 10% Boston Bruins 10% Florida Panthers 10% Edmonton Oilers 10% Carolina Hurricanes 8% Colorado Avalanche 7% Washington Capitals 5% New York Rangers 5% Vegas Golden Knights 4% Tampa Bay Lightning 2% Winnipeg Jets 2% Nashville Predators 2% New York Islanders 1% Los Angeles Kings 1%
Florida and Edmonton were both tied in second, so that's also pretty good, honestly. Sure, it's a five way tie, but that's also pretty impressive in its own way. And 7 of the 8 bottom picks, all receiving 5% or less of the vote, were out in the first round, which is excellent work (the 8th was the Leafs. Because of course it was). Pat yourself on the back, all.
I'll be running the random number generator and reaching out to one of the Panthers predictors tomorrow, so if you guessed them -- congrats, enjoy the bragging rights, and, if the random number generator is kind to you personally, you'll hear from me soon.

Graff in Baltimore refering to Kuwasi Balagoon, a Black Liberation Army soldier & anarchist political prisoner who died in a US prison of AIDS-related illness on December 13, 1986.
As a young man Balagoon enlisted in the army, until he came to reject militarism and the US war in Vietnam, and instead became a tenant organiser in New York City and joined the Black Panther Party in 1968.
Later he was one of the Panther 21 defendants, who were arrested and held for a prolonged period of time on bogus counts of conspiracy to plant bombs, until they were all eventually acquitted on all charges.
Balagoon joined the Black Liberation Army, and participated in the operation which liberated Assata Shakur from prison in 1979. He was eventually arrested and charged in connection with the 1981 robbery of a Brinks armoured truck, during which two police officers were killed. At trial, Balagoon represented himself, admitted his involvement but argued that his actions were justified as a combatant in a war against the colonial, genocidal US state.
Despite Balagoon being open about his bisexuality and his HIV status, many obituaries omitted any mention of this information, which many activists criticised as erasure of "internal struggle against homophobia and patriarchy".

if you’re up to it i would very much like to know your white collar neal timeline🎤🎤
this turned out to have many asides and be very long so the tl;dr is: peter have you considered that he's just a twenty-something teenage girl :( ?
timeline:
neal born 1984 ish. he's an aries and a millennial
neal, ellen, and neal's mom go into witsec 1987, neal age 3
2003 adler scandal i fucking guess. neal age 19
neal arrested probably mid 2005, 21
neal goes to jail for the first time, i want to say early 2006, age almost 22
pilot is set late summer 2009, age 25
same-sex marriage legalized in new york june 24th 2011, they talk about this in season 3 episode 14 which is soon after. neal's 27
more or less a year later–let's go with less–neal tells sam that he has spent the last decade running from the truth he learned at 18. taking him literally that it was 10 years ago he is now 28 it is the end of season 4 and 2012
the end of season 4 to the series finale is less than a year. he is 29 its 2013.
when we see him in paris he might be 30 but that doesn't count To Me
i present my evidence:
i don't know where we got "neal is 35" from i cant make it work. neal and co. went into witsec (which i have actually since learned is not available to people living in dc, they have their own version but it is not overseen by the federal marshalls, i don't think they can give you as many legal documents like a ssn, and they don't help you set up your new life as much? something about neal's life that would be interesting to explore.) when he was three and ellen says in season 4 that she's been in witsec for Nearly three decades. confirmed 33 or under in season 4
he also says to "sam" more than once that he's spent the last decade running from the truth he learned at 18–he very well could be rounding down here and mean like 12-13 years but i am Choosing to Believe he meant that literally. we are now at youngest 28, it is the last episode of season 4.
now due to the way the show is structured and the fact that it is never really winter. ok maybe winter 1 time because i can see in my mind neal in his little wool coat and earmuffs but largely it is summer and we never have a christmas episode. anyway due to All That our only real anchor in the timeline is that the episode where diana is Grappling with her engagement to Christie happens immediately following june 24th 2011, when same-sex marriage was legalized in new york. and also that later that season in the commutation hearing they say that neal has served 2 years of his sentence. so the pilot was set in 2009 when it aired we are at one year/season. but as the series goes on the episodes and even seasons have increasingly shorter gaps between them, and by season 6 we haven't even finished our four years. by the end of season 4 i want to say we are three years into his sentence and he's 28. between the end of season 4 and when neal dies in season 6 there has got to be less than a year that passes. actually deadass why was neal so obsessed with the pink panther case ending his sentence early we are like months out king. i get the injustice the system is broken they'd keep him forever but to people outside his circle he must have looked sooo silly for that. but whatever. he is 29 when he dies and 30 when we see him again in paris, his roaring 20s of crime and incarceration over.
Anyway where the "neal is 35 or at least claims to be much older than this timeline would say he is" probably came from in-universe is that the adler scandal takes place SEVEN years before s2 when peter confronts neal about it. 2003?????? guys the thing we have to understand, to embrace, about neal's personal timeline is that i do not think anyone in that writers room was really grasping how much they had neal do in so short a time. 2003 he is like 19 guys. maybe by the time peter says it was 7 years ago it was 2011 ? and the adler thing was 2004? but no that couldn't work because it's mid 2011 like a year later in s3. so basically neal walks out of st louis and has a magical girl transformation through which he immediately becomes a great conman and criminal. and he meets mozzie basically straight away. he should still be in like calculus and ap lit at this juncture. and then they go right into the adler con ??? and neal is obviously lying through his teeth to everyone saying he is at least 21 but probably more along the lines of 23. and while most of his aliases are eventually found out by peter if no one else, no one ever goes "wait IS HE a teenager?" no one is guessing this.
so we spend a couple months fucking around and fucking UP with adler, kate probably doesn't know how old we actually are, this relationship cannot actually last very long at all because we are truly on a time crunch right now. we have less than three years for neals entire criminal career before he goes to jail. i know i said on the bullet list he went to jail early 2006 he has got to have been arrested like summer 2005 at the latest to be tried and sentenced by then and i feel like even that might be tight because he was suspected of so many other things they wanted to get evidence for. but how is neal teaching kate to be a criminal less than a year into his own career. i think neal must have been a hardcore improv kid for this to work honestly. i bet he competed. so our golden days of mozzie neal and kate against the world lasts maybe a year at best before neal and kate fight and she leaves and he spends months trying to get her back and get her attention and commits a truly breathtaking amount of crimes in this time.
also i'm skipping through forging bonds right now trying to flesh out this timeline and it was incredibly shady of peter and co to see that kate is doing so much to stay hidden from her ex boyfriend and then to reveal her to neal in order to catch him. like that was fucked up they didn't know neal yet he hadn't been suspected of violent crimes but they didn't know why kate was working so hard to escape him. like it worked out ok (arguably, but that could be a different post) but they had no reason to trust neal not to hurt her like this. she could have been running from an abusive situation he's known to be a talented criminal with no fears about escalating his crimes he could have killed her. one thing about the fbi is that they never once care about kate's safety and it does indeed get her killed one day.
in conclusion neal is known as one of the best forgers in the world when he is arrested in 2005 at age 21 maybe 2 years into his criminal career. here i am 21 what have i accomplished

The Incomparable Afeni Shakur
Afeni Shakur, was an African American activist, businesswoman, and mother of Tupac Shakur.
Born and raised in North Carolina, Shakur later relocated to New York, and was a part of the ‘Black Panther Party’ during her youth. She opposed social injustice and racial discrimination.
Afeni Shakur was one of the 21 Black Panthers arrested on the charges of conspiracy to carry out bombings at public places. A pregnant Shakur represented herself and was acquitted of all 156 charges.
She brought up her children as a single mother, but later got addicted to drugs. Her son Tupac left home and later earned a name as a rapper.
Afeni successfully overcame her addiction and reunited with her son. Her independent nature and revolutionary influences are reflected in her son Tupac’s lyrics.
After her son’s untimely death she became a source of comfort for other grieving mothers. Traveling across America, she addressed gatherings and gave speeches.
We love and miss Afeni Shakur.

On this day, 23 November 1969, leading Black Panther Fred Hampton spoke at a meeting organised by the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom at the University of Illinois. Among those in attendance was Luis Kutner, a lawyer and, according to the New York Times, co-founder of Amnesty International. Unknown to Hampton, Kutner was an informant for the FBI, who reported on the meeting to his handler, and claimed that Hampton was "ranting and raving" and said that President Nixon was "a member of the 'capitalistic establishment'" and that "Nixon must die". Kutner said that he was telling the FBI this because of "its possible violation of Federal law". A few days later, the FBI had Hampton, aged just 21, drugged and murdered in his sleep. While outlets including the Times and Chicago Tribune described Kutner as a co-founder of Amnesty International for many years, in 2020, Amnesty put out a statement denying this, although they did acknowledge that Kutner was present at the founding of the organisation, and was on its advisory board in the 1960s. Bracket Challenge: Conference Semis
We're down to the final four now, so it's time to see how we did:
Carolina Hurricanes 41% New York Rangers 31% Washington Capitals 23% New York Islanders 5%
Florida Panthers 37% Toronto Maple Leafs 31% Boston Bruins 20% Tampa Bay Lightning 12%
Vancouver Canucks 49% Edmonton Oilers 34% Los Angeles Kings 11% Nashville Predators 6%
Dallas Stars 38% Colorado Avalanche 32% Vegas Golden Knights 21% Winnipeg Jets 10%
With the exception of some…excess faith in the Toronto Maple Leafs (every year. every single year), the top two picks of each group did, in fact, face one another in the conference semi-finals, which is honestly pretty good, prediction wise, for something as unpredictable as the NHL playoffs.
Though, with the higher seeded team winning in 10 of 12 matchups this postseason (COL over WPG and EDM over VAN are the exceptions, and in both cases the teams were quite close to one another in the standings), this has actually been the LEAST surprising postseason in my memory, from a statistical standpoint, which is interesting in its own way. And, most interesting of all: one of the remaining teams has never won the Cup, and the other three haven't won it since the 20th century. So no matter what, grown-ass adults who've been fans their whole lives will finally get to watch their teams win it all. And I think that's nice.
