I get the criticism of the Hunters of Artemis from a narrative perspective—it sucks that it essentially boots interesting female characters out of the story—but it always baffles me when people viciously hate Artemis for *checks notes* doing damage control.

Like. Thalia explicitly goes with Artemis to avoid the prophecy, and I definitely think that’s the reason Artemis tried so hard to get her to join—hell, you can view the hunters trying to recruit Annabeth as a way to get Thalia to join. And Bianca? You can’t convince me that Artemis didn’t guess there was something up there and react accordingly.

If Percy or Nico were even a little bit girl-adjacent you bet your ass she would be all over them to join. No one actually wants to risk the Great Prophecy happening, and Artemis is doing a hell of a lot more to stop it than anyone else.

We know what it wasn't a big secret to the cult of Bhaal what their Chosen (Durge) is a lil (a lot) obsessed with the Chosen of Bane.

Orin def told everyone who would listen about it, as Balthazar's note on "Prayer for Forgiveness" might imply.

But have we thought about the other side of this?

How many of Bane's servants present at Gortash's coronation saw Durge and went "Ugh, not them again. ANYONE but them. Dark Lord Bane, we serve you well and do not deserve this".

How many of banites had to watch their Chosen act like a lovesick fool at his own coronation and tried very hard not to cringe?

Like bhaalists were not pleased with their Chosen's affections, but I bet Gortash was INSUFFERABLE with Durge by his side.

honestly RIP Torbin though, he was a padawan just tagging along when the other Jedi masters went to spy on and retrieve Osha and Mae. He got briefly mindfucked by the witches, and he went on to take an oath of meditation for TEN YEARS because he was wracked with guilt over what happened. And he was a PADAWAN. Very little more than a child himself!!

and Mae convinced him that taking the poison was forgiveness. all he wanted was forgiveness, and he didn't even do anything.

sure we don't know yet about the six years between the fire and his taking the oath, but from what context we're given, it's the test and the subsequent destruction of the coven he seems to feel guilty for.

Unless it wasn't just Mae who set the place on fire and blew everything up, but we don't know that yet. from what we know now, RIP Torbin, who did nothing wrong and was convinced to commit suicide for forgiveness over being a child in the wrong place at the wrong time.

so i've seen multiple AU stories where cass comes to gotham early, meets one of the other batkids and bonds with them. i've seen several with either jason or tim, and one with steph.

i want to put them all together. an alternate universe where cass comes to gotham early and runs into a bunch of kids who promptly imprint on her like lost ducklings. she doesn't know why they've attached themselves to her; she still can't comprehend language let alone communicate.

Thinking about Jason who has been pretending he's perfect, incredible, unstoppable, invincible for so long that he forgets the feelings of pain.

And then this time, when he just beat a monster or st, breathing hard but standing on numb legs and when the others are praising him as always, Nico - with his death sense, as usual - is the first one to grab him, yank hard at his jacket and freak out at his gaping wounds.

Bonus point if Nico's near crying whereas Jason's low-key deliriously grinning bc well. it feels nice to be cared for.

A child of Bhaalspawn, a bhaalspawn themselves, albeit striped of that when Bhaal took his essence from Durge, killing them instantly.

DIED before even being born, so clearly Myrkul's subject.

Resurrected by Jergal, so there's ties to that as well.

Can be compelled to follow any of The Dead Three paths, or try to play them and set them against each other, or follow Jergal, or forge their own path.

Essentially a child with no fate.

Can look either as Durge (and be any race Durge presented as) or as Gortash.

The last possibility bringing unique encounters and dialogues and character never knowing they can use being Lord Gortash's child to their advantage or ppl they meet were their father's enemies and they need to dash.

Having ties to different fractions depending on who Durge romanced or if Durge not romanced anyone.
