Black Balloon Day… A moment of silence for all the still sick and suffering addicts and alcoholics, the families that are mourning the loss of a loved one to this disease, and for those who drank, used, or picked up for the first time today who didn’t know where it would lead them. Black Balloon Day has become a national and international event, bringing awareness to overdose deaths. It’s a day that families and loved ones pause to remember and celebrate the lives lost to overdose. On days like today, I remember to be extra grateful for my sobriety. So many of us try quit but cannot. I am among the lucky ones, and if you’re alive and reading this then you are too. I’m glad you’re here, and for those we’ve lost a long the way… you will be missed. 🖤💔🖤💔🖤💔🖤 • • • • #blackballoons #blackballoonday #blackballoon #addictionawareness #overdoseawareness #overdoseawarenessday #sober #sobriety #recoveryispossible #recoveryisreal #recoveryworks #odaat #inremembrance #momentofsilence #sobercommunity #recoverycommunity #sobersupport #addiction #addictionrecovery #march6th #soberinstagram #idontdrink #neverusealone #addictionisafamilydisease #nevergiveup #addictionsupport #addictionsucks #alcoholicsanonymous #friendsofbillw #recoveroutloud https://www.instagram.com/p/CpciOIAuP8U/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

HELP ME END THE STIGMA! Stigma is killing more people than any drug on this earth. @resurrektion_of_me said it perfectly… “My heart is broken that maybe somehow I haven’t made this crystal clear to everyone in my life-⁣ I am a sober person who loves people who use drugs. I don’t mean I love them in hopes that they find recovery. I mean I fucking love them just as they are and I want them on this earth forever. If you use drugs or are thinking of using… PLEASE DO NOT USE ALONE!⁣ ⁣ I invite you to use in front of me. I am a safe and loving person who can watch over you in case anything happens. Narcan is worthless if there’s no one there to administer it.⁣ ⁣ If you are a safe a loving person who wants people who use drugs to know that they can use in front of you too… tell them. Please make sure that they feel accepted and supported.⁣ ⁣ If you’ve been sober and have gone back to using and feel excluded and judged by your recovery circle… get a new fucking circle.⁣ ⁣ Fuck the day count.⁣ Fuck the new comer chips.⁣ Fuck the humiliation tactics.⁣ Fuck the shaming in the name of accountability.⁣ ⁣ A human life matters so much more than any of that superiority bs.⁣ ⁣ I don’t want to lose anymore beautiful people to the stigma that permeates our society. The stigma we swallow and turns into a beast of shame in our souls. Stigma is killing more people than any drug on this earth.⁣ ⁣ No one should feel afraid to ask for someone to sit with them while they use. No one should feel like a disappointment or a burden just because they are struggling or want to use drugs.⁣ ⁣ We have designated drivers for folks who want to drink… we need the same globally supported initiatives for those who want to use other drugs.⁣ ⁣ Period.” #stigmakills #fuckstigma #endstigma #stigmafighter #mentalhealthstigma #addictionstigma #harmreduction #harmreductionsaveslives #harmreductionworks #narcan #narcansaveslives #neverusealone #naloxone #naloxonesaveslives #overdose #overdoseawareness #endoverdose #substanceuse #pwud #cranbrookbc #cranbrook #kimberleybc #agoodplacetobe #mykimberley #eknpud #pwud #peoplewhousedrugs #eastkootenays #peerwitnessing (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQylFINsc09/?utm_medium=tumblr

Why should we give up what makes us feel alive, just because it will eventually kill us?

Never Use Alone Resources
NeverUseAlone is an overdose prevention line for those struggling with addiction. Their website is neverusealone.com
When you call this line you will be asked for your first name, location, and if you have any allergies or medical conditions. You can then inject your substance and the operator will continue communicating with you throughout. If you do not respond after 30-45 seconds they will notify emergency services of a possible overdose at the location you give them.
Hotline Numbers are:
National: 1-800-484-3731 New England: 1-800-972-0590 New York: 1-800-997-2280 Spanish: 1-800-928-5330
Mandy Line: The Mandy Line is not an overdose prevention line but a resource for those struggling with substance use disorder to talk with who has had the same experience. The number is 1-800-943-0540.
Canadian National Overdose Response Line: Like NUA, this is a service one can use when using alone based in Canada. Their number is 1-888-688-6677 and you can visit the website; they have both English and French translation.
Good Samaritan Laws State by State: Next Distro has compiled a list of state policies regarding good samaritans laws, syringe exchange/possession, and narcon distribution; you can view each state in pdf form on their policies page. You can also access more resources on their sitemap, such as their resource library, mailing and voter guides, delivery tips, harm reduction tips, opioid overdose reversal, etc..
Spread Awareness: You can print out cards and flyers and get graphics for the web so more people can know about NUA. Get them all on their resources page. You can also purchase their merchandise to support the website on their merch page.

We never know what each other are going through, but one thing is for certain - we are all struggling, in one way or another.
The suffering we each experience is what connects us the most.
Our society conditions us to isolate ourselves to the point where we don’t think anyone else could ever possibly understand the experiences we’ve had to endure. We are taught to believe that we must be some kind of moral failure for experiencing hardship in life. We end up internalizing fallacious and self-harming narratives such as “I must have been a bad person in a past life to deserve this.” But that’s just not reality. In truth, we are all struggling.
No one is certain why they are here, and anyone who tells you otherwise with confidence is not someone to be trusted because they are either lying to themselves or trying to sell you something; a product, an idea, or a lifestyle.
The truth is, our shared experiences of pain and resilience serve as a powerful reminder of our humanity. When we acknowledge our struggles, we create space for empathy and understanding, bridging the gaps that societal conditioning has built between us. It is in our vulnerability that we find a profound connection with others, allowing us to see that we are not alone in our suffering. This shared understanding can be a source of strength and solidarity, empowering us to lift one another up, rather than remain isolated in our pain.
Community care can take many different forms, but the number one takeaway from any and every single liberation movement on the planet should be: care for yourself so that you can care for others and check in often with those whom you love and care about in this life. Mutual aid emerges from this foundational principle, recognizing that we are stronger together. It emphasizes the importance of collective support and shared resources, fostering an environment where individuals can lean on one another in times of need.
In a world that promotes individualism and competition, mutual aid serves as a radical act of solidarity. It reminds us that we are interconnected and that our well-being is intrinsically tied to the well-being of those around us. When we engage in mutual aid, we break down the barriers of isolation and stigma, cultivating a sense of belonging and community. We learn to listen, to share, and to uplift one another, creating networks of support that can withstand the pressures of a challenging world.
Recognizing our shared suffering can inspire us to create communities that prioritize care, compassion, and connection. By leaning into our collective experiences, we can foster resilience not only within ourselves but also within our communities. It is through this dedication to mutual aid and community care that we can begin to heal the wounds of isolation and build a more just and equitable society for all.
Check in often with the people you love and care about in this life.
