BTW if you think calming corners, sensory rooms, and other forms of dedicated spaces to handling overload, anxiety, or intense emotions in your house is something only for kids - or even worse - only neurodivergent kids, you are largely denying yourself a very helpful resource based on social norms.
Having a space dedicated to being safe and with easy access to things to help lower overstimulation and calm intense internal experiences is something that everyone can benefit from having
Not just kids
Not just neurodivergent kids
Not just neurodivergent adults
Not just mentally ill adults
Everyone - even the hypothetical person with no mental illness or physical disability
There is nothing "immature" about having spaces organized to make your difficult times easier to handle and I think everyone should consider dedicating maybe even just a shelf or corner in their place to having an abundance of self care resources
Self care is not a limited resource and not something that you have to be "bad enough to have"
If you think its a good thing for parents to provide their kids with rooms / spaces dedicated to different ways they can self regulate, then you should agree that if you are also dealing with any levels of difficulty self regulating, that it should be a good idea and good thing to provide yourslef with rooms / spaces dedicated to ways to help you self regulate
Children and adults both have emotions and life experiences that are hard to regulate / handle and both need ways to relax and calm down
Self care, sensory rooms, and coping / calming corners are resources that can help both children and adults with those difficult moments

My mom's bestie is a retired 2nd grade teacher and I was able to send all my donate yarn to one of her teacher friends for school crafts last week. I even was able to send the bagged yarn scraps and remnant yarn balls too small for my remaining projects! :)
Since she's friends w so many elementary school teachers, I was also able to send all those built up octopus plushies + a baby velvet seal (all w washing instructions + separated by polyester vs acrylic for allergies). SO much room opened up in my supply organization and I can finally put away other fibers.
Next time I build up donate supplies, I think I'll reach out to the assisted living facility on my street. I have a bunch of ergonomic crochet hooks that I have replaced w clover amour hooks, so it'd be nice to know that they're getting used + helping crafters w hands like mine. Just. Trying to figure out how to show up as an adult goth and not frighten the liddle old ladies. Man. Maybe I'll deliver them in my old femme office clothes.

Want to help support autistic kids and kids with developmental disabilities?
Consider donating to help my friend fill her classroom!!
Tori teaches 3rd and 4th grade science and social studies at a school for autistic kids and kids with developmental disabilities
Every item big or small will help her students to have a good and positive year this coming school year
Her wishlist included frequently used classroom items, snacks for the kids, and many other items to help engage her students in learning!

Question: if you are an autistic who needs step by step instruction in classroom, what kind of instructions would be helpful for a learning task that require self-exploration? What kind of support and accommodation best help you to get to exploring?

One of the weirdest things about finding out you're traumatized/mentally ill/neurodivergent as an adult is looking back at all the very obvious signs in your childhood and realizing none of the adults responsible for you were paying attention
#it really is a mindfuck#like all of yall were really asleep at the wheel here#me: exhibiting very obvious symptoms of neurodivergence and mental and physical illnesses#ever parent teacher coach and other authority figure i interacted with: shes just Like That.#fun fact i when i was in elementary school starting in 2nd grade id have to walk to the front of the classroom and read a section of the#board at a time and then go back to my desk and copy it from memory because I couldn't see well enough from my seat and not a single#teacher said or did anything about it until i was in fifth grade. guess who needed glasses.#like they didn't even ask they just let that happen until my fifth grade teacher was like. what are you doing. and i told her i couldn't#read the writing from two rows back and she told me to tell my mom i needed glasses#anyways ms. [redacted] you're the only valid mfer in this place#not even gonna get into the number of coaches who called me lazy or out of shape in middle/high school (even though i was playing multiple#sports a year) when i told them i couldn't breathe after running for only a minute or two. guess who has sports asthma.#maybe this is just being the middle child but like of you're not going to pay attention to me can u at least not immediately call me a liar#when i say something's wrong maybe#those aren't even mental/neurological those are very obvious and easily demonstrated physical issues and you STILL didn't say anything#not even gonna get into all the very obvious signs of mental illness and neurodivergence

All I’m saying is that it’s tragic how very intelligent students are forced to drop out and made feel stupid because some professors feel the need to make their courses so intense that one needs to study 50-60 hours a week, while they just need rest to function, but would have no problem understanding the material if they just had to study 40 hours a week, the actual fucking guidelines for what full-time studies should be.

really thrilled to see the amount of mlm content that's like "i want a boy to infodump about his special interests and hyperfixations to me!!" because i always feel like talking about my hyperfixations are a burden and keep people from getting to know me, but the way yall talk about it makes me feel so warm!!! and i think i feel that way too!!!! if a boy wants to tell me all about the newest book he read (or one he read eons ago) or his favorite video game, by GOD I will be listening!!!!

oh my god best wishes really went “yeah iris acts like shes above ash and others her age because she went through academic trauma was shunned by the other students who prioritized studying and maturity and iced her out because of her friendly and energetic personality and was unable to study because the curriculum was not structured for children with her learning style and got so depressed that she couldnt eat and would climb a tower and endanger herself just to try and feel closer to home. also she was away from home stripped of her only support system. also also this happened immediately after her best friend stopped talking to her after getting brutally defeated in battle.”
