I'm tired of all those nerd x bad boy stories having like a cocky confident bad boy and having the nerd gigling and immediately loving them. I need the bad boy to be cocky and popular without ever putting in any effort, he's arrogant and then he's confused about why he has feelings for this little nerd so at first he tries to win her over by his winking and smug smiling and arrogant flirting that works on everyone else, but the nerdy girl is like you does your head even fit through the door?? And then he has to be vulnerable and show his FEELINGS in order to win her over and even when they start dating he's emberassed to tell everyone and she's just confused because she likes him, surprisingly he's way smarter than she thought but why doesn't he want everyone to know? And then she doesn't like how he acts towards her in public and they fight. Bonus points if one of them has an asshole mother/father and they talk about it and stuff 😭😭

Yes, I ship Merida DunBroch with Randall Boggs and I blame Boardwalk Empire.

Anyway, in my College AU, Randall is a shy nerd who developed a crush on Merida ever since she kicked the asses of the bullies harassing him.

Her new shadow's compliments, pet names, and attention at first annoyed her. But when she opened her door to find him waiting there holding a plate of homemade cupcakes that were decorated to spell "Be my gal," he had finally worn her down, and she reluctantly agreed to go on a date with him.

He took her to an ice cream parlor; he held the door open for her and pulled out her chair, to which she rolled her eyes.

As they sat and waited for their orders to come, Merida looked sharply at him and said, "When this date is over, you can stop showering me with all this unwanted attention!"

He replied in a sweet voice as he leaned forward, placing his elbows on the table, and rested his chin on his interlocked fingers. "The first act of love is always the giving of attention."

She scoffed as she leaned back. "You think attention is love, and that's why you suffer so deeply," she sneered, narrowing her eyes at him.

He stated with a chuckle, blinking innocently. "Attention is the beginning of devotion."

A smirk spread across her face as she quoted, "If you don't like something, just take away its only power: your attention." She figured she had just won the battle of words and felt very satisfied with her retort.

He took his glasses off and began cleaning them with a little cloth after pausing for a brief second. "Attention is the most basic form of love. Through it, we bless and are blessed." As he finished speaking, he pushed his glasses back on and smiled warmly at her.

She stared at him in silence, thinking that he just won the war in their battle of words.
