Coralqueer is a inclusionist term that has a heavy emphasis on self-expression,creativity, and diversity, while still being safe and being wary of things that are actually harmful.

basically coralqueer is "as long as you arent something thats geniunley harmful, everybody's valid!" also update: i wanted to add that the flag actually has a meaning! the blue shades represent inclusiveness and the ocean, the pink shades represent creativity and sea creatures, while the paler blue stripes on the top, bottom, and middle represent unity and peace!

Coralqueer supports:

Hello and Welcome to the Are You This Identity polling blog, yet another tumblr poll blog inspired by the likes of @haveyouheardthisband @have-you-been-here @doyouknowthischaracter and the like, but centered around my special interest in gender and orientation identities.

This blog will have a variety of identities including common ones, uncommon ones, niche ones, microlabels, mogai/liom labels, xenogenders, neogenders, and more. I will be doing my best to mix them together, so the blog isn’t just all the LGBT+ “well known” identities, and then slowly becoming only microlabels, so if you’re wondering why a very common identity hasn’t been posted while a very uncommon one has, that’s why.

What’s the difference between neogenders and xenogenders? I’ve seen ‘neogender’ terms that exactly describe xenogender experiences, but the poster has specified that it’s not xenine at all. Not trying to hate, just genuinely curious.

Also could I claim the “🐛☀️” sign-off?

to start, neogenders are any genders coined after ~2000, while xenogenders are generally any genders defined in relation to concepts, objects, creatures, and other non-'human' gender concepts. i also like the way radiomogai defines them; autonomous (that is, not fitting under other gender concepts, like masculinity or femininity) gender identities related to external concepts.

the idea of 'neogender umbrellas' that are defined as separate from xenogenders despite seemingly fitting under what 'xenogender' encompasses was created by kenochoric. i was thankfully able to find an archived post containing many of the reasons why they didn't like kenochoric being defined as a xenogender, which i'll list here:

the xenogender label felt both too broad and too constricting and caused them dysphoria as a kenochoric person

they felt that xenogender does not properly include everything that kenochoric can include; for example, an agender or gendervoid person could consider that experience kenochoric, but those are definitely not xenogenders

they felt that kenosity has its own 'vibe', similar to other non-xenine gender qualities such as masculinity, femininity, neutrality, androgyny, outherinity, etc.

and, importantly, though kenochoric itself is not a xenogender, there can be crossover; one can experience a kenochord in a xenine way, a xenogender in a kenous way, etc.

here's another post from kenochoric on their own distinction between xenogender and neogender; in this one, they describe how the umbrella label of 'xenogender' can apply to genders related to literally anything, making the term 'xenogender' itself fairly nebulous and extensive, while neogender umbrellas such as kenochoric are all tied together by a central theme.

a lot of folks found this framework interesting, and the idea of neogender umbrellas that are not inherently xenine (but, on an individual basis, can be experienced in xenine ways) took off!

it may seem kind of hair-splitty, especially if you weren't there when kenochoric was discussing their personal distinction and essentially defining what a neogender umbrella is lol. i honestly think a lot of people felt sort of alienated by the xenogender label or just didn't relate to it and latched on to the idea of neogender umbrellas. they also (in my experience) are a really interesting coining exercise!

Sometimes I watch some young artists/creators on YouTube I feel sorrow when I see a fellow neurodivergent woman saying that they don't really get the social structure of a gender and then say they are enby/agender/neogender etc.

It pains me because I too used to think that this was the only way I could express my feelings of not wanting to be tied to a specific gender role, by choosing a different one. It made me super dysphoric and I for a long time hated my body, because it was so tied to a sexual nature all the time and deep down I knew I was a female and no matter what I do I'll never change that aspect of me. I was scared that I would be bound to life as only an object for men to exploit. I was so happy when people couldn't tell if I was a girl or a boy because that made me feel safe. That made me feel like I was free from the social expectations that come with being a woman. Before all that, I loved my body. I loved how I looked. I loved having breasts and bush down there because there was no man in my mind wanting to use me, and not a lot of them in real life. The gender ideology only fucked up my brain even more than standard misogyny and I am more than certain it does too to those women.

I'm still not brave enough to tell them that they can be in fact a woman without caring about the gender stuff. That their feelings are valid outside of the gendered world and that they can be free in their bodies and mannerisms. Even if it seems harder, they can still be themselves, no matter what others want them to be.
