Trigger warning: blood
“This love it is a burning sun // Shining light on the things that we’ve done.”
I’ve been working on these pieces for a few days, and I tried to include as much slight symbolism as I could.
I’m rather pleased with the end result of these drawings, frankly.

#feanorianweek Day 1: Maedhros
I decided on the theme of “coping”. Here is Maedhros with Maglor near the end of his days. His best form of coping is being with his brother of course. Just two sad lonely bois doing their best to stay strong for each other.

The Fëanorians’ names
I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently and I wanted all of their names and etymologies in one place so I thought I’d share it ❤️
Feel free to let me know in the notes if I’ve missed any or gotten anything wrong
Maedhros
The Tall (sobriquet)
Nelyafinwë (fn, Quenya) - ‘third Finwë’
Nelyo (s fn, Q) - ‘third’
Maitimo (mn, Q) - ‘well-shaped one’
Russandol (epessë, Q) - ‘copper-top’ (from russa - ‘red-haired’). Given by his brothers due to his red hair. He also wore a copper circlet
Maedhros (Sindarin) - from maed - ‘shapely’ and ross - ‘red-haired’. Derived from Maitimo and Russandol
Maedros (S) - proper spelling of Maedhros due to the etymology
Maidhros/Maedhros (Noldorin) - ‘pale-glitter’ (from maidh - ‘pale’ / ‘fallow’ / ‘fawn’ and rhoss - ‘flash’ / ‘glitter of metal’)
Maglor
The Minstrel (s)
Kanafinwë (fn, Q) - ‘strong-voiced Finwë’
Kano (s fn, Q) - ‘commander’ / ‘crier’ / ‘herald’
Macalaurë (mn, Q) - ‘forging gold’ / ‘gold-cleaver’. Prophetic reference to his harping skill with laurë being poetic and not referring to the metal
Maglor (S) - ‘forging gold’ (from Macalaurë)
Magalor (pure S rendition) - presumably ‘forging gold’ (from Macalaurë)
Maglor (N) - ‘gold-cleaver’ (from Macalaurë)
Celegorm
The Fair (s)
Turcafinwë (fn, Q) - ‘strong, powerful (in body) Finwë’
Turco (s fn, Q) - ‘strong, powerful (in body)’ / ‘chief’
Tyelcormo (mn, Q) - ‘hasty-riser’. Reference to his quick temper and habit of standing up when angry (from tyelka - ‘hasty’ and (I think) ormë - ‘haste’ / ‘violence’ / ‘rushing’)
Celegorm (S) - ‘hasty riser’ (from Tyelcormo). North Sindarin as it keeps the m
Celegorn (N) - presumably ‘swift-impetuous’
Celecormë (Q) - early form of Quenya version of Celegorm. Relating to Oromë
Caranthir

Caranthir (S) - ‘red-face’ (from Carnistir)
Cranthir / Cranthor (N) - ‘perfect’
Curufin
The Crafty (s)
Curufinwë (fn, Q) - ‘skilful Finwë’. Fëanor’s father-name. Given because Curufin was his father’s favourite and most like him in looks and mind
Curvo (s fn, Q) - ‘skill’ (from curu)
Atarincë (mn, Q) - ‘little father’. Referring to his resemblance to his father in both looks and mind
Curufin (S) - from curu - ‘skill’ and fin - Sindinarised Finwë
Cyrefinn Facensearo (Old English) - translation of his name in The Earliest Annals of Valinor. Defined as cyre - ‘choice’, facen - ‘deceit, guile, wickedness’, searu - ‘skill, cunning’, facensearu - ‘treachery’

Damrod (Q) - Noldorin translation of the Qenya name Nambarauto (from namba - ‘to hammer’ and rauta - ‘metal’). Used in earlier Silmarillion material
Déormód (OE) - ‘brave-hearted’. Translation of Damrod
Amras
huntan (s) - ‘the hunters’. Collectively known as in The Earliest Annals of Valinor

i love the silm fandom and idc that i’m getting sappy on main. i love that we call maedhros nelyo and maitimo and russandol. i love that we call maglor kano and celegorm tyelko. i love that we affectionately call it silm and not the silmarillion. i love that we write heartwrenching fics and then the cutest, fluffiest oneshots right after. i love scrolling through my dash and seeing the most beautiful fanart known to man because if we don’t have a screen adaptation you better know the artists are gonna make one themselves. i love seeing edits that are literally just animated fanart and phonk music but that are on another plane of reality. i love headcanons. i love fanon. i love the canon. i love that we can all read silm and though we might have different opinions on characters and themes and blorbos we all are united in our overwhelming, indescribable love for it. i love how we all collectively defend maedhros. i love seeing the most unhinged ship tags ever on fics and them being actually really well written. i love that i’ve never read a single badly written silm fic in my life. i love that we can make shitposts about our fav kinslayers and then 2k word essays on the length of turgon’s sword right after. i love russingon. i love beleg and turin. i love how we took material that has such rigid, archaic language and made it our own, brought it to life. idc i love this fandom so much y’all are everything.

unhinged Fëanorians AU headcanons
idk if this is even an AU or if they’re just like this
Nelyo: - Loyal - The diplomat - Actually goes fucking crazy after Thangorodrim - Gives off genuinely the most terrifying energy - Calculating af - Will manipulate the shit out of you - He doesn't look insane but then you get to know him and... - Lowkey a cult leader (??) - His followers are also ✨batshit✨ Kano: - Lowkey the most powerful - When he sings you think 'avenging angel' - Not as dramatic as you would think - Has a conscience - 'I will make them in my image' energy with Elros and Elrond - Surprisingly cunning - Has a smile that will make your skin crawl - Gentle hands, cruel words Tyelko: - Filled with rage pt 1 - Ruthless - Backstabbing is fun for him - He loves seeing that face of realization - His laugh shouldn't make you feel so unsettled - Cult leader pt 2 - By the end even Oromë is scared of what he's capable of - Impossible to wrangle (even by Nelyo) Moryo: - Spiritually identifies with Pityo - Smart af - People try to use ósanwë on him but his mind is like a fortress - Greed(TM) - Arguably the least scary - Rumors spread that he wasn't an elf and was actually a dragon - Fëanor anti pt 1 - Used a massive fuck off axe in battle - Fox-like Curvo: - Unsettling pt idek - Conniving bitch of a man - Vaguely antisocial - Talks way less than you would think - A good father for like 10 minutes - Obsessed with lightning storms - (Has been struck by lightning) - Moves like a panther - Raises one eyebrow - #1 dad supporter Pityo: - Lightly crisp - Didn't actually die at the burning of the ships - Can no longer speak because of the scar patterns - Feral af
- Hates that Nerdanel gave him and Telvo the same name
- Would (and has) punched several of his brothers and cousins
- Spiritually identifies with Moryo
- Everyone swears he’s invisible sometimes
- Slightly better hunter
- No mercy
- Filled with rage pt 2
Telvo:
- Also feral
- Dad always mixed him up with Pityo so they switch places sometimes
- Fëanor anti pt 2
- Slightly more diplomatic
- Develops sign language for Pityo
- Uses ósanwë to talk to Pityo
- (Also they use ósanwë to swap bodies)
- Vaguely terrifying
- Gives off creepy twin energy
- Telvo is the more unsettling of the two
Tyelpë:
- When you meet him you think he’s surprisingly normal
- Eyebrow raise pt 2
- Distinctly unimpressed constantly
- Lowkey thinks it might be fun to be evil for a minute
- Sometimes filed his fingernails into points for the vibes
- Filed his canines so they look like fangs
- Elros and Elrond are his favorite cousins
- Always stealing shit
- Sleight of hand ✨king✨

There was a post going around for a while about how kana means chicken in Finnish, making Kanafinwe = chicken Finwe. The thing is, a lot of Quenya names have te reo Māori meanings or can have funny meanings when transliterated into te reo. I've made a little list.
The most important thing to know is that 'wh' is pronounced 'f' in most dialects. Also, I took several liberties with the transliterations - when there were multiple options, I picked the one whose meaning I liked the best.
Translations
Maitimo: Māītimo means sour gardening tool. (Māī = sour, timo = a tool used to dig up sweet potatoes.) But if you're willing to mess around with the vowel sounds a little ... Māī-iti-mau [my-ee-tee-mo]* = to be a little sour to be captured.
*'au' is usually pronounced like the o in no.
Kanafinwe: Kana = wild stare / to stare wildly, making him Wild Stare Finwe.
Kano: either 1) colour or 2) bean.
Turukano: tūru means chair, so Tūrukano means chair bean
Ingo means desire, yearning, wanting. (Ingoldo becomes Ingoroto, a desire/yearning within.)
Amarie: Amārie = of peace, tranquility.
Arafinwe: ara means the waters breaking in childbirth. It also means path, but the first option is funnier.
Arakano: path bean
Angamaite: anga = to face, māī = sour, and tē = fart.
Curufinwe: Kuru has a lot of meanings including to hit/punch, to be tired, a piece of greenstone jewelry, or a mallet. So I guess that makes his name Tired Finwe, Ornamental Finwe, Mallet Finwe, or Punch Finwe. The last one would be in the imperative, making it a command.
Moringotto: we have to take out one of the t's to make this Mōringoto. It means either 1) intense unimportant person or 2) unimportant person to penetrate.
Transliterations
Feanaro: The best transliteration would be Wheanaro, which is pronounced the same as in Quenya. But my favourite interpretation is Whaea-ngaro; mother lost/missing.
(Edited to add that 'ng' is a soft sound pronounced like in sing. I'm cheating a bit here, because it's actually the equivalent of the Quenya ñ, not n like in Feanaro.)
Nelyo: We don't typically have l or y sounds. My preferred option for this would be Ngērō, meaning to scream inside.
Nelyafinwe -> Neriawhine or Nerawhine. Nera can mean nail (as in a metal nail) or to nail. Whine [fee-neh] isn't a word in most dialects, but in some very small areas it's the word for woman/women.* (In most areas the word is wahine.) So uhhhhh interpret that as you will, but this may be the single most ironic name on the list.
*Another possible transliteration of Finwe would be Whinewē, meaning woman liquid. This is physically painful to me so I'm sticking with Whine.
Findekano: In the same vein, Whinekano means bean woman or woman bean. If you prefer Whine-te-kano or Whine-tē-kano, the former means Woman The Beans and the latter means women fart beans.
Turko is Tūrukau: chair cow / nothing but a chair.
Makalaure could become Makarōre. Maka = to throw/fling and rōre = lord, making the full name Yeet Lord. A prophetic mother name.
Tyelkormo would become Terekomo. Tere= swift/fast. Komo... um. This is mostly used to describe putting on clothes. But it can also mean to thrust or insert. So basically the same as the Quenya
Moryo = Mōriau, a firm unimportant person / a howling unimportant person.
Curvo: if written as Kuruwau, in certain dialects it would mean hit me.
Pityo would be Pitiau: defeated smoke/mist.
Findarato: rātō means western, so Whinerātō = western woman.
There are also names that are pronounced the same in te reo Māori as they are in Quenya but have no Māori meaning, e.g. Anaire or Curumo.
Take this whole thing with a pinch of salt, because obviously we don't usually make word-for-word translations of transliterated names. Like I said, I've also taken some liberties with the transliterations. But to the best of my knowledge, all of these are accurate translations.
It's the House of Finwe uwu smol beans

Maedhros & Maglor Week day 5: New Horizons
(It's still Thursday somewhere, right?)
Dialogue-only snippet for today yesterday's @maedhrosmaglorweek prompt, about a post-canon reunion.
“Nelyo, you look—you look well.” “And you look like shit.” “Well excuse you, is that how a disciple of Lady Mercy should address their long-lost brother? But yes, perhaps I should have bathed since arriving.” “This disciple of Lady Mercy just so happens to be on leave, and may say whatever he wishes to his over-delayed brother. Who needs a bath.” “As if you would smell any better after a moon at sea, with an elderly halfling and your half-wild husband for company.” “Oh, husband? My congratulations. And condolences. Have you told your wife yet?” “I will burn that boat when I get there.” “...Pray, do not tell me that has become a turn of phrase in Middle-earth.” “It has not! It is my own invention, composed along with many other twists of language that would make father blush, alone, at the seaside. By myself. Alone. Brotherless. Did I mention alone?” “Kano…” “Ah! No, no, do not cry! You are on leave, no sorrow allowed! Aye, you left me, when I had chosen to follow you, to whatever end. And that hurt! Not as much as the Silmaril, but it hurt!” “I… I have envied you, after a fashion. That you were strong enough to walk away where I could not.” “I thought it cowardice, at the time, that I could not have the strength to follow, to give myself up to Judgement.” “And I thought it cowardice, that I chose death instead of life, that I fled from you who had given so much for me.” “…” “…” “Heh…” “Heeheehee…” “Ahahahahahaa! Look at us! A pair of sorry old cowards! Well! I have not survived three ages of the world by running away from all troubles; and you, dear brother, are bold yet in ways I cannot fathom, to be willing to face the crimes of our house and those whom we wronged greatly. Which I suppose I must now get around to doing. Do you think I should apologize starting from the first crime or the latest?” “I think you should start with a fucking bath.”

our time will come but not today
For @maedhrosmaglorweek Day 7: Storytelling Prompt: Fate
Maedhros moves toward the edge of the chasm, jewel burning into his hand - only to be abruptly hauled backward by something catching hold of his cloak. His back hits the ground hard enough to knock the breath from his lungs and the Silmaril from his hand, and then Maglor is over him, keeping him in place.
Of the two of the, Maedhros still has the greater strength. He could shove his brother off and get to his feet if he tried. But with his momentum interrupted, he’s finding it hard to motivate himself to move.
Maglor’s jaw is tight with pain, but his gaze is determined, and he stays put, between Maedhros and the edge. “No, Nelyo,” he says quietly. “Not that. Not after everything.”
“What else is left, Kano?” Maedhros asks dully. “It’s over. It was never going to end any other way than this.”
But Maglor shakes his head. “I won’t accept that. The Oath is done; we can choose what kind of story we want this to be.”
“Can we?” Maedhros has certainly not thought so since the Doom first echoed in his ears.
“We can,” Maglor insists. “We have to try, anyway. And I refuse to let this continue to be a tragedy.”
He stands then, pulling Maedhros to his feet, and leads him away from the chasm. For a moment, he pauses, just long enough to kick the dropped Silmarils over the edge.
“What kind of story do you mean to make it, then?” Maedhros asks, his gaze following the disappearing light.
“I don’t know yet,” Maglor says, voice light despite his death grip on Maedhros’ arm as they walk. “I hope it shall include our sons - our family - perhaps some measure of grace. I hope it shall have a better ending than this. But if nothing else, it is ours, and it is not over yet.”
Maedhros isn’t quite sure he can believe in what his brother is spinning out. There cannot be that kind of hope, not for them. But last time, Maglor followed him into ruin, so Maedhros supposes he owes it to him to follow him into whatever this might be.

Daughter-in-law of Feanorian Household (Maedhros x Reader)
Summary: a glimpse of how do your in-laws see your relationship with Maitimo.
genre: fluff
Some people are born to love, with the perfect recipe to find their other half. It's truly satisfying to witness their love. Even Tyelkormo, the gremlin of the Feanorian household, could see it. You and Nelyo were annoyingly good for each other. Every moment he witnessed you two together, he couldn't help but notice how beautifully the world shaped itself around you and his eldest brother.
Seated on the farthest couch, he observes as you follow Nelyo, trailing behind him with a befuddled look. Of course, his brother was late for court, again. "By Illuvatar!" Nelyo exclaims, one minute away from turning over the living room. "I swear I left my brooch here." The redhead is busy turning over the entire cabinet and you merely turn to wink at Tyelko, who remains mildly amused.
Tyelko watches as you walk to his mountain of a brother and gently turn him, whispering, "Here," as you open your fist with the brooch magically resting in it. "You forgot to take it off last night," you add as Nelyo returns to normal. Standing on your toes, you pull Nelyo closer, and for a moment, Tyelko wonders if he should leave, but he stops when you clip the brooch on Nelyo's cloak.
Tyelko can't help but witness the adoration in his brother's eyes, the soft look that melts with Laurelin's rays. For the next hour, he finds himself unable to move as he observes the subtle dance between you and Nelyo. It's as if you know his brother's needs better than Nelyo himself. His brooch, his papers, his quill, his satchel. Nelyafinwe's world revolves around you.
Nerdanel quickly figures out that her eldest is sulking, but the realization leaves her gawking at an unfinished statue. Maitimo doesn't notice the change in her expression, and thank Illuvatar for that! By some miracle, Nerdanel doesn't drop her chisel.
"I mean I've already looked over all the arrangements for the month. I've finished my court duties. Yet, I can't go," Maitimo drapes himself over the nearest chaise.
It's barely been two days since you left to visit your parents, a visit that is supposed to last a month. A month that Nerdanel suspects won't come to fruition if left to her eldest. "I barely have anything to do, amil," Maitimo whines. He's whining! Nerdanel finds herself with a 500-year-old elfling moping next to her, all because he misses you. He came to her to complain or maybe hear the words he really wanted - a suggestion to visit you.
Ai, Maitimo. Nerdanel resists the urge to coo at her son. Her son has always been the responsible one, and to watch him like this...Nerdanel can't help but find it endearing. Today, she won't give him the satisfaction of the answer he craves. For now, she wants to enjoy watching her son act petulantly.
Maybe tomorrow she would 'suggest' him to visit you.
The first time Maitimo brought Kano to meet you, he wore his best clothes. Kano, being a prince, had plenty of good tunics to choose from, so he carefully weighed the merits of each piece of clothing in his wardrobe the day before meeting you.
He had been excited to get an inside scoop on Maitimo's secret before any of his other brothers. Even his amil and atar had yet to find out.
But then, Makalaure met you in an unsuspecting garden, and a normal day turned into a life-changing event. He knew from the moment he met you that you were special to his brother and why.
You were kind and attentive, complimenting Kano on his tunic and listening intently to his compositions, praising every one of his songs. In Kano's eyes, you were the only one worthy of his brother.
Maitimo was all smiles, a contrast to his usual mid-day scowl. Kano noticed his brother's meticulously brushed and intricately braided hair, as well as the ruby hairpin holding your hair back. The lifted corners of his brother's mouth were enough indication that Maitimo was pleased. Immensely pleased must he add.
Even now, Kano can remember your shocked expression and Maitimo's flustered mumbling when he accidentally called you "nesa" at the end of your first meeting.
It didn't take long before you became Kano's nesa, his first sister-in-law, and the one he felt closest to.
