I know the Rashomon Job is a just-for-fun episode, but I honestly think it's such an interesting look at Sophie's character. Her whole schtick is "I just stole art from rich people, I never hurt anyone!" but like... girl was absolutely ready to send a guy into anaphylactic shock just to get backstage at a museum that SHE WORKED AT. Like yes the show justifies it by saying the guy she thought she was poisoning was a blood diamond smuggler and all-round Bad Dude but still. If the others hadn't been there and things had gone according to Sophie's plan, there would have been a real chance that Minister Bad Dude would have ended up dead. So Sophie could slip out of a party at a museum that, again, she worked at. If storeroom access was such an issue, she's a good enough grifter that she could have figured something out without oh, I don't know, ENDANGERING SOMEONE'S LIFE.

Anyway. Really nicely illustrates Chaos's whole "everyone was scared of Sophie Deveraux" thing from season 2. I don't think I really got it until this moment.

while on the topic of iron posting. a very small very insignificant thing that i really enjoy is that nobody really harasses it for not speaking. and like. we don't know precisely why it doesn't speak. it could be because it's mute, it could be due to an unseen injury, it could just be a selective choice, it could be that it never bothered to learn human language to begin with, etc etc. but there's never been a scene (at least as far as i can recall) where mr iron is specifically called out or pressured or anything of the sort. not even by its own haters 4 haters coworkers. and yeah this is realistically probably because its an ESPECIALLY deadly space bat that could kill you six ways from sunday if you pissed it off, but also, y'know, sometimes it's really nice just having a mute character that's treated Normally for once

i’ve been scratching my head over the whole watcher situation. I’m not a fan myself but got dragged into it cus of the people I follow, i only watched their puppet history series and the buzzfeed unsolved series from way back- honestly, i couldn’t care less if they locked all their stuff behind a paywall. I’m so neutral on this whole thing, i might as well be swiss.

but i’m not neutral? In fact, the whole thing really bothers me and i couldn’t figure out why.

cus i get it, yanno. As a company that thrives on creativity, i understand you’d wanna cut yourself off the mega-capatalist-giant that is youtube to get rid of annoying restrictions, and asking monetary support from your audience so you can really stretch the limit of your creativity. I GET IT.

And it STILL bothers me!

And then I figured it out:

the whole “any future videos they’ll be making will EXCLUSIVELY be available through a streaming service you have to pay a monthly subscription for” comes less across as “please support us monetarily so we can grow as creators”, and comes more across as “if you want to continue being a fan, or even being a part of the audience, you’re gonna have to pay up. You have no choice in the matter. It’s either pay, or you’re not a ‘real’ fan or a ‘real’ part of our audience.”

THAT’S what’s bothering me about it. It feels like they’re gatekeeping who gets to be part of their community with money (that not everyone might have). And knowing where they come from and how they started…. That’s… extremely tone deaf. To put it gently.

okay I'm going through my endgame screenshots, and I remember, while playing I caught only the tail end of this voice line, and I made sure to screencap it so I'll remember to get into my feelings about it later, but then the rest of the endgame happened, and I totally forgot.

so here I am now, finally getting unnecessarily into my feelings about it.

(yes, I know most characters probably have a similar cry here. work with me, okay. let me have this.)

and that sudden, weird burst of self-sacrifice made my ears perk up for a moment, but it's not even the first time, because even though I hadn't expected it from him after my first playthrough (when I wasn't paying as much attention to him), it's actually not even that unusual for him, the guy driven mainly by self-preservation, to be naturally putting himself in harm's way.

It's kind of subtle, but in these throwaway lines, it's really kind of sweet, how almost-uncharacteristically protective Astarion can be of the player? Especially for someone whose entire relationship with them starts off with him seeking protection (regardless of whether it's successful or not), and whose storyline is in part about overcoming self-interest in favor of self-realization.

Like, it's definitely not as overt as it is for some of the other characters, but the "your savior is here"-type barks he has for aiding a high-approval/romanced character, the "I don't want to see you hurt" and "I want to be able to protect you, too" lines...

Hearing it for the first time, I felt like it sounded maybe a touch out of place, a little bit uncharacteristically sincere, that he'd say "I'll always be here, my love" in the epilogue...

But you know what, yeah. I get it. He will always be there.

Yep! The long and short of it is that Splinter invested in the good shit. (How did he afford the good shit? Donnn't worry about it. Same way he was able to cut a deal with Big Mama...)

The Cloaking Crystals are specifically designed for long-term wear, the bracelets are small and minimal so as to not get in the way of day-to-day, and are enchanted so that they fit snugly and won't fall off by accident-- they have to be deliberately removed with intention. Splinter spent weeks teaching his sons how to wear bracelets without bothering them (even before he got the actual cloaking brooches) and drilling into them how important it was to never ever take them off.

After a while, the brothers just got used to having them on, and really didn't have any reason to ever take them off. I imagine that there was at least one occasion (when they were still young,) where one of the brothers (probably Leo...) started messing with his, but...

Dad didn't even get mad. He yelled a little, sure, and he stopped Leo right away, but... They could tell he wasn't angry. He was scared. They had never seen his face look like that before.

... They kind of decided after that that they really shouldn't ever take the bracelets off. Dad said it kept them safe, and it seemed like he meant it. Now that they're older, they mostly just chalk it up to it being some kind of superstitious thing on their Dad's part, but they remember how important it is to him, and that he told them not to, so... They just haven't.

Not yet, anyway.

I honestly wish I had an image to convey my horror and disbelief when I saw Felix for the first time. I knew right then and there Adrien was never EVER going to get an arc.

They really wanted Adrien to be a damsel in distress - a princess who needed to be saved by his knight. There really is no combination of words I can find to express how confused I was to see this writing choice be veiled as progressive for the first time.

Because here is the thing: In these stories, princesses still have more agency than Adrien. They will make choices that will guarantee a victory over the villain. Adrien's actions in ML do not matter and this was intentional.

If this wasn't intentional, then Felix would have never been introduced in the show. With his introduction, Felix usurps Adrien's agency from his own narrative. Like, it is so incredibly weird to see Felix have this level of influence in the story, because it's not like Adrien and Felix are the same character. From the audiences perspective, we know Felix is an older design of Adrien - BUT IN THE ACTUAL STORY Felix and Adrien are not treated as one in the same.

Felix zapping Adrien of his agency wasn't used as set-up to an eventual reveal of Adrien and Felix being two halves of the same whole. Felix is in this story JUST to make sure Marinettes and Adriens relationship doesn't become "toxic". Adrien can't be "mean" to Marinette - A.K.A he can't actually have any meaningful conflict with her. Which would naturally come about when you bring up the themes of agency with sentimonsters.

So, to keep any "toxicity" away from our main leads, Felix is given the agency Adrien should have had from day one.

I really don't have the words to describe how I feel when I see FELIX [who looks identical to Adrien] telling Marinette the sentikids backstory when this show could have just been written in a way where Adrien figures this out on his own and tells Marinette before they fight Gabriel. Adding Felix - who is literally an older design of Adrien - to this story just because they see ADRIEN exerting power over his own story as a detriment to his romantic development with Marinette is so odd to me.
