I got first into it about 5 years ago I think. I got into the 'zero waste' stuff. Which basically means to try and live, making the least amount of waste (mostly plastic waste) as possible.

This got me started into using things like a bamboo toothbrushes, soap bars instead of plastic bottles of shower gel etc.

I guess the answer to what natural cosmetics are could depends on who you ask.😅

For me personally it means to use products that aren't artificially made with a bunch of synthetics and plastics.

One app that's pretty cool is the "Beat the Microbead" app. You can scan any cosmetic product to check if there are any ingredients that are basically plastic, which is both bad for the environment and your own health! Like very bad! It messes with your hormones and such, it's actually quite messed up

One example is the moisturizer I had been using for a long time.

'Olay Beauty Fluid' had the following microplastics in them.

So logically, I started trying different things like natural oils, like for example, jojoba oil, castor oil etc.

Since a few days ago I'm using a tallow moisturizer made with beef tallow, jojoba oil and beeswax.

So only natural ingredients. ☺️

I'M NOT AN EXPERT! always do your own research. What might work for me might not work for you. But it's sure interesting to learn about how much effect the wrong products can have.

Learning Process no. 1.2: Extracting lanolin from sheep wool

I'm trying to different processes for extracting lanolin

Cold prewash: I've washed it 4 times while it has soaked for a few hours about 5.

"The wool grease is continuously removed during this washing process by centrifugal separators, which concentrate it into a wax-like substance melting at approximately 38°C" - Sengupta, Amit; Behera (2014). "Comprehensive view on chemistry, manufacturing & applications of lanolin extracted from wool pretreatment,also used in vitamins" (PDF). American Journal of Engineering Research (AJER).

That means the cold wash may still have the lanolin oil

I possibly have to investigate how to do some centrifugal separation?

Boiled: I would prefer not to use this method as i understand from my research that the wool will not be useable after having it boiled. "Wool felt melts between 105 and 110F" - p. 50. the Big Book of Handspinning by Alden Amos

The water needs to boil for a few hours.

For the base of the scrub I use fine salt for its cleansing and purifying properties, for oil I use almond oil for mental clarity and healing, and finally, I use lavender essential oil for calmness and peace, and I also put dried lavender flowers in the blend to amplify my intent.

After I wash my face, I start the cleansing ritual by smelling the magical scent of my scrub, taking a few deep breaths to focus on my intent of purification, healing, and tuning in to a positive state. Then, when I feel centered, I begin to mindfully rub the scrub gently on my face. I’m massaging my face like this for a few minutes, and then I rinse my face with water, thanking it for carrying away all of the heaviness of the day from me.
