Melody got a new wig, which I lovingly call "styled with leave in conditioner and curl gel". I do like it on her, it's super soft and shiny, but it is too big. It literally stays on with eye putty under the cap.

I got it from Natrume on Etsy and it is made of Angora Mohair and is a hardcap wig. The wig was offered in many sizes between 14cm to 24cm circumference, but Melody has a 19.5-20cm head and that was exactly a size not available. I could either go way too small at 18.5cm, which with a hardcap wig would not have fit, or I could go for the 20.5cm wig that is roomy, which I did get.

Oh well, at least her gorgeous tresses cover the gapping of the wigcap. I will commission eventually a local good friend of mine to make her her "awakened" wig, which needs to be opalescent and with black tips. Goes with her lore!

Megurine Luka - Wig Test nº1

This weekend I also took the time to make a first wig test on my Pullip Luka (who is basically a Pullip Noan with no piercings). My metal comb has disappeared, though, so she looks messier than she should.

Eyes are provisional until I can get my hands on the coloured, pupil-less eyechips I saw in HelloCoolCat, but I wanted to get used to see her with blue eyes instead of her pink ones.

The wig is from Natrume in Etsy; technically, it is a size too small for Pullip, but you can put it on... if you do not mind struggling for a while. The only review with pictures had it on an official Pullip Luka (ha!), so I knew it was possible.

Mine had the bangs cut wrong, they are waaaay too short on her right side, so she has to wear it crooked; at least, it seems that styling her as Luka can hide it a bit, too. This picture was my reference:

She will need the pink hair to frame her face all the time to really look the part, so when I get her definitive eyes installed (and her asymmetrical eyelashes fixed, yikes!), I will have to cut and curl a section of hair on every side of her face... Wish me luck!

Project Anri (part 2)

By now, you know my drill: get the head, get the body, get the wig, get the faceup.  I ALWAYS get the wig before I contact Tsuminaki about a faceup, strictly for the purpose of making sure she can match the eyebrow color properly.  Except...this wig was going to be very different.  Anri’s hair is mostly slicked back, except for two side tails that serve as partial bangs.  That was not going to be possible for me to do, simply because of the way that the majority of doll wigs have their hair rooted.  So, in a rare move for me, I was going to have to commission somebody to make her wig.  After much research, I finally asked Natrume on Etsy to make it.  It was fashioned from mohair, with the slicked-back portion glued into position so it wouldn’t shift.

He even was able to send me a yellow headband for her.  But I still need to fashion a bow for it and give the headband a little more body.  I’ll get that done soon. (And yes, as you can kinda see in this picture, I got her pink sleepwear set commissioned too!  Much thanks again to Dollheimr on Etsy!  As soon as I get the headband finished I’ll do some picture of Anri and Sylvie together in their respective sleepwear.  Maybe I’ll try to recreate that scene from ep. 5!)

So once I had the wig, I contacted Tsuminaki and gave her this info regarding Anri:

Her eyebrows are the same color as her wig, which I will enclose.  Maybe make them a little thinner than shown in that image.Her eyes on the sculpt are small, but I'd love for them to appear big.  Line her eyelids with black, and give her black eyelashes.  Also, one thing about this sculpt that annoys me is that she has this tiny gap in her eyeholes where the tear ducts are located.  If you can somehow minimize those, that would be much appreciated.A slight touch of pink blush on her cheeks, and keep her lips skintone, like you did with Priss and Linna.  Make them glossy, with no lip lines.  Maybe a little bit of contouring on her face with brownish undertones (since her body is a tiny bit yellower than her head), with a little extra along her nose to make it look a little narrower.

Sent her head along with a foot from the body for a color match, and had to wait a few weeks because of the usual queue she had (plus she had just moved cross-country!!), but soon I got sent this picture:

After a good 9 years, I finally repainted my dear sweet Melody because her faceup had really faded. She got new eyes for my birthday in April, so I felt motivated to repaint her to match the vibrancy of them.
