Natalia opens her eyes. Vaguely, she feels her muscles working against the broken-glass feeling of the shattered cornea.

Beep.

The anesthetic they’re pumping into her pushes it further back, until all there is is an itchy tingle when she tries to survey her surroundings.

Beep.

The white walls around her carry words she struggles to understand. The machines are attached to the same parts of her as they were when she blacked out earlier, and her flesh twinges against the same needles inside it every time she shifts. Her vision is like—well, it quite literally is—seeing through broken glass, but she’s certain they haven’t taken her back. If she could, she’d fall back onto her bed in relief.

Beep.

Her body tries to jerk and one of the needles sends something paralytic and soothing into her veins. The relief deepens when she understands that they do.

Beep.

There will be no more sleepless nights if they understand, no bleeding fingers from clicking shutters and no visits from Andolont, whose exchange wraps around her neck and wrists like barbed-wire collar. If they understand, they will cut her open and keep her guarded, but they will be honest about their intentions, which is far more than she could hope for in Frabaer.

i always see a lot of people go with the idea of 'what if zuko somehow killed ozai during the agni kai' but that's not my cup of tea so let's do something else: what if iroh could bring himself to kill his brother, and did just that.

zuko wakes up after the agni kai, and learns that his father is dead. his uncle had challenged him to an agni kai. ozai had not survived the ensuing burn his uncle had given him.

(iroh did not want it to come to this. but if he can do that to his own son, he is certain ozai would not stop until the world is burned down.)

once on the throne, iroh declares an immediate end to the war. the fire nation war machine simply stops. troops begin to withdraw. no one in the earth kingdom or water tribe understand what is happening. a few generals will resist orders, so iroh strips them of their rank.

aang comes out of the iceberg to a world that is tentatively at peace. the sudden reappearance of the avatar is a mild headache for iroh, so he sends his nephew to the southern water tribe to meet them. zuko has thrived under his uncle's tutelage... though azula struggles the sudden shift towards peace.

Sadly part of me feels like Lockwood and Co would have been a more popular book series and by extension a more popular show if the books were from Lockwood’s perspective instead of Lucy’s.

It’s unfortunate but girls are much more willing to read a book with a male protagonist than boys are to read about a female protagonist. And in the case of a series like Lockwood and Co it’s not marketed specifically towards boys or girls so it has nothing to do with boys seeing it as “girly” or whatever. And it’s not that they start it and then dislike it because they can’t relate to Lucy, in my experience working with kids and recommending this series to them, once they start it they love it, but the boys are usually skeptical to even pick it up and try it out once they find out the main character is a girl named Lucy.

They end up loving it of course, but there isn’t that same hesitation when recommending something like Percy Jackson or Artemis Fowl. And I think that’s really sad because Lockwood and Co is a series about friendship that everyone can relate to, but society’s inherent need to classify things as “for boys” or “for girls”really hinders the reach of this series.

And to be clear I’m not saying they should have been from Lockwood’s perspective I think this was a story that deserved to and needed to be told from Lucy’s pov. It’s a problem with society, not the books and this is just a trend I’ve noticed.

I truly believe this series has some of the best themes for a wide age range of kids and young adults. It’s one of those rare stories where the themes are deep but still accessible to kids, and I just wish more people knew about it and that it got the recognition it deserved.
