the last two weeks have been very eventful for my shikanaru fic updates so i’m just compiling them together in this single post!!

first off: the most recent shikanaru fic i wrote was my first ever fic in hindi. :)) i always wanted to give it a try and it took me quite a while to make up the sentences without them sounding funny/awkward but i’m glad i got to complete this small project!

and last but not the least, i updated one of my poly narusasushika fics after over a year! it’s about shikamaru, sasuke and five others from the rookie 12 being sent on a mission to safeguard and offer refuge to naruto, who had left the village the night before graduation very many years ago. the fic’s focus is to develop all these interpersonal relationships and explore the psyche of this different-but-same-at-core naruto, sasuke, shika and how they grow to form a bond between themselves. the platonic relationships are just as significant for me to unpack as the romance here, though! it’s 27k+ words so far, with four chapters up!

‘Kakashi should have been a parental figure to sasuke’ is a terrible argument for hating Kakashi, cuz no tf he shouldn’t have

Kakashi is in no place to be a parental figure to ANYONE in his state. He’s not ‘parental figure’ capable until post war arc when he finds some damn closure

But also, Sasuke does not NEED a parental fogure and he’d be insulted at anyone trying to fill that role. Where Naruto had no one (and thus a parental figure stepping in for him was good) sasuke has parents he loved

Parents he adored, who’s desd bodies he saw laying on the ground after his big brother murdered them

The last thing he needed was a parental figure. What he needed was a friend and support, and he had people trying to be that

Naruto was and wanted to be his friend

Kakashi wanted to be a support system for him

For many reason’s, of which fall on no specific person as being totally in the wrong, that did not happwn.

Sasuke pushed Naruto, Kakashi and everyone else away to seek his own goals, because he was so consumed by revenge he was willing to do anything. Which is exactly why Kakashi told him to stop seeking revenge

He was fine with Sasuke wanting revenge until he saw just how much Sasuke was willing to sacrifice to get it, and only THEN did he step in and tell Sasuke to stop seeking it

Because he saw how it was destroying Sasuke.

How this desire was eating away at Sasuke so much he was willing to harm his friends, people who cared for him and who he cared for, because he felt they were in the way of him achieving that goal.

Kakashi tried to be what Sasuke actually needed. Not a parental figure, but a support and guide. A role no one could fill cuz most people wanted to use sasuke (orochimaru, obito, even itachi at the start) and the one person who genuinly wanted to help Sasuke (Kakashi) was not the person who could both because their world views were vastly different because of how differently they experienced their trauma’s, and because Sasuke chose to push everyone who cared about him away

People need to stop expecting Kakashi to fill a parental role for Sasuke. That is not his role

It should never be his role

You cannot fill a role where someone already stands, and even dead Fugaku was Sasuke’s father figure. His real, loved, respected father.

one pet peeve of mine in founders-era fanfics is when madara's whole,,,, everything is solved by izuna just being there

like maybe this is just me, but i don't think izuna surviving or even coming around to the idea of a truce with the senju would've been enough to keep madara from the path he ended up on.

izuna wasn't the reason he left - he was definitely part of madara's issues, but he wasn't the why. even if izuna had stuck around, and even if that had been enough to keep the uchiha clan from losing their faith in madara, i think he would've still come to realize konoha wasn't what he'd hoped it would be.

best case scenario, i think izuna's survival might've caused madara to stick around a bit longer, but i don't think it would've lasted. honestly, even then, that might've just made the inevitable break-up between madara and hashirama even more agonizing (particularly for izuna)

it's a fun idea to play around with for sure, but frankly i don't think canon!madara could've ever been 'saved' from that path. certainly not if the hidden village system ended up getting set up in the same way.

Koharu, reading fanfics: What the? Why am I getting depicted as an evil old hag that hates and is hellbent on making sure poor Naruto and Anko suffer?

Sometimes you make headcanons based on canon evidence. Sometimes you make them based on how funny/ dramatic they would be.

The second is how I came up with my current headcanon, where I thought it would be hilarious, if Ino and Gai shared the same mother.

I feel like a lot of people criticise Sasuke not being around the village as much when he’s older way more than they should. And I understand it’s because Naruto spent the majority of his teenage years chasing him but Naruto didn’t do that simply because he wanted Sasuke in the village for the villages sake.

No, he wanted Sasuke in the village for Sasuke’s sake.

Naruto has been an outsider in his own village since the day of his birth. He understands why Sasuke would want to leave. What he can’t understand is why he’d want to leave for Orochimaru of all people.

Orochimaru has nothing to offer Sasuke as far as Naruto’s concerned. He can’t offer love, friendship and mutual respect that Naruto looks for in his own village. Power, maybe, but Naruto had Jiraiya, another Sannin to look to in that respect. Power from a Sannin is probably the occasional jutsu every five years.

All Naruto sees when he looks at Sasuke leaving is self-destruction. The blinded cravings of a boy who desperately wants one thing.

The village, on the other hand, could offer him sanctuary. It can offer him a home, like Naruto has discovered, and strength too. He just needs Sasuke himself to see that so that he doesn’t have to destroy himself by going to a man that will never have his best interests at heart.

Which is why, after the war, Naruto isn’t upset to see Sasuke go. Because the village will only harm him if he stays. He wanted to save his friend from a hostile environment and Konoha is hostile.

If Sasuke was going to go to any village that could do right by him, Naruto wouldn’t have chased after him like he had when he went to Orochimaru.
