What is easier, trying to fix a whole bunch of old, crumbling bridges…
…or convincing (enough) people that bridges falling down is nothing worth getting worked up about?

It's unfortunate but it's true. Some people not only don't mind being lied to by their government but are propagandize to believe that they should be lied to and be kept in the dark about the things our government does in our name. I'll be lying if I didn't say how disheartening this is.

Sergei M. Guriev and Daniel Treisman write,
Rather than terrorizing or indoctrinating the population, rulers survive by leading citizens to believe—rationally but incorrectly—that they are competent and benevolent. Having won popularity, dictators score points both at home and abroad by mimicking democracy. Violent repression, rather than being helpful, is counterproductive: it undercuts the image of able governance that leaders seek to cultivate.
They are offering a theory of dictatorship in which the dictator obtains power through nonviolent persuasion. In political science, I believe that this is known as “legitimacy.” In this case, their thesis is that dictators achieve their legitimacy through the control of information.
But the relationship between legitimacy and control over information also might be important in a democracy. That is what Curtis Yarvin argues in a recent essay.

Treasury of Games: Plot Coupons
Treasury of Games: Plot Coupons
If you play RPGs, you are probably familiar with the standard model of play in these games: the GM narrates most of the world, the players choose the actions of their characters, and the GM interprets the results of a random number then narrates the resulting situation, and so on. There are five major components to telling the story of the game in this model:
World state control (usually in the…

Black men are now living in fear of white progressives who will penalize them for disagreeing with whatever narrative on social justice they put forth. I'm one of those black men and I'm fearful of making this post despite being a life long liberal who sees social justice as a means of liberation for my beleaguered people. The consensus of around simplistic narratives that make progressive whites feel good and noble isn't one that's inviting to those with opposing views of any kind. Too often the first response is to shame, ban or block. This isn't inclusive, it's exclusive.
We have unapologetic racist demanding "violent backlash" against ghetto black men being put forth as heroes of progressive values like Leigh Alexander who was featured in a prior DailyKos post on the issue. I take that as a threat of genocidal racial violence when as a black man living in a white majority country where unarmed black men gunned down by whites causes whites to rally around their shooters. This women said "Can I start it?".

Video
blip
Please signal boost.
I believe someone who can lip read can tell us something important about this video and the speaker's message.
The last audible message available to hearing-abled people is "news media." I suspect that the creator's purpose is to illustrate one of the strongest ways that media outlets suppress the people and stories that fall outside of their status quo: via silence.
Only a select number of marginalized people will understand and be able to share the full message of this video. As long as we keep expecting the message to be catered to the abled, privileged masses—as long as we lack other perspectives—we may never know it.
Am I right? Please send this video to friends and followers in search for lip readers. Thank you very much.
