okay, so. I have yet to find one fic where everybody in the House of Black is written just the way I want and like. so I actually write more than read about them, I just don't post it because it's v messy and self-indulgent.

but if I disconnect from that in my head there are lots of fics I love, here are some from my bookmarks:

Narcissa and Andromeda: Road to reconciliation - a collection of short stories about Andromeda and Narcissa. Amazing one-shots, I adore these.

Sisters of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black - another great collection of stories about the Black sisters

Thicker than water - An exploration of Tonk's feelings about her Black family heritage. (written by @artemisia-black - they have a lot of works centered around the Blacks and the way they are written and their characterisation is amazingly accurate)

I have a question about the connection between B&E and W&H. In the B&E Draco shows in the secret twenty eight book that his ancestors had maggleborns. However, I’m the W&H when Draco and Hermione stand together in the Black home he tells her that to

Narccisa and his family this will be the end of two pureblood lines when they have kids. Like didn’t he showed her the proof that it’s not true?

I’m not trying to catch something, just a bit confused. Thank you for your amazing works! They give me life!

so the short answer is that narcissa already knows. 

all sacred twenty-eight families know that pre-statute of secrecy there was plenty of intermingling between magical and muggle populations (in the malfoys case, they preferred to socialize with muggle aristocracy only bc they gotta be uppity about something) but they don't really acknowledge or talk about it. i imagine there's some pretty strong cognitive dissonance at play. but at the end of the day, they call themselves pureblooded because according to their current definition of the term, they are. i think generally speaking, if they dont acknowledge that part of their history and instead focus on their alleged purebloodedness post-statute of secrecy, then there can still be 'purebloodedness.' otherwise they'd have to admit that the reality of their genealogy is as shaky as the philosophy they've built on it.

this isn't my own invention, either; it's all roughly pulled (and used to my own devices. i cant recall if there's definitive proof of unions between them, though there is definitely a story out there about a malfoy unsuccessfully trying to court elizabeth I) from broader hp canon involving sacred twenty-eight families, the malfoy family history, and the statute of secrecy. i did a wiki deep dive back in the day while i was planning b&e xD
