hi there, hope you're doing well! the rachel zegler news is so disheartening as a former fan of hers for her pro-palestinian activism :( would you be able to provide fc replacements with acting resources around the same age range?

It’s #WorldTurtleDay on a #TurtleTuesday + #TwoForTuesday!
Here are two 19th century turtle-shaped umbilical cord amulets at the Penn Museum; 1st one seen on a recent visit, 2nd one back in 2019…thought it looked different than I had remembered it! 😉 (These charms are a Native American Plains Culture Area tradition, usually turtles for newborn girls and lizards for boys.)

Turtle Umbilical Amulet #1: Assiniboine (Nakoda) culture, c. 1860 Penn Museum

Turtle Umbilical Amulet #2: Likely Lakota (Sioux) culture, c. 1880 Penn Museum

A new radio station featuring programming in five Indigenous languages has launched in Edmonton.

“All our staff and management have worked really hard to make this a reality. I’m so proud of them and our new baby,” said Bert Crowfoot, founder and CEO of AMMSA, in a news release issued Sunday.
The station is scheduled to start each morning at 6 a.m. with an Indigenous prayer, a welcome song and the news. We first profiled Native American actress Amber Midthunder when she was starting to make her mark on both the big and little screen playing Native and non-Native roles to good reviews. What a difference four years can make. Midthunder has been on a nonstop roll since then. From small roles in Hell or High Water and Longmire, the actor graduated to co-starring in the Marvel/FX Legion series and The CW series Roswell, New Mexico, which is still going strong. In the past year she has starred opposite Liam Neeson in The Ice Road.
The big news is that she landed top billing as the lead in the latest installment of the wildly popular sci-fi Predator franchise. Titled Prey, the big-budget prequel is predicted to be a blockbuster — and Midthunder, as the female warrior Naru striving to protect her people from an alien threat 300 years in the past, likely to become a household name.
“This is it for me: My calling and passion is acting,” says Midthunder, whose father, actor David Midthunder (Longmire), is Nakoda, Dakota, and Lakota Sioux, and mother, Angelique, is Asian and European.
Filling out a very busy slate, Midthunder is also a youth ambassador at the Lompoc, California, wild horse conservation organization Return to Freedom.
We caught up with Midthunder a week before she was returning to New Mexico to start filming Roswell, New Mexico, again.
Cowboys & Indians: Tell us a bit about growing up in Santa Fe. Amber Midthunder: I had the opportunity to be a kid and grow up in an environment where I could ride horses and play with sticks. Even now, wherever I am and wherever I’m working, I try to leave the concrete and connect to the land.
C&I: Congrats on your lead role in Prey, which is due out this summer. What was it like to play Naru and drive the action as a powerful Indigenous woman? Midthunder: It was unbelievable. I feel extremely humbled. Working with director Dan Trachtenberg was amazing. He’s a great storyteller and so collaborative. Making this kind of movie with someone who is open and grounded and cares so much was incredible. Regardless of who played the role, the fact that this movie is the very first to have a female Indigenous protagonist in an action movie is huge. Carrying that responsibility was never lost to me, and I just hope to have done my people proud.

Paulina Alexis (2000) Nakoda Sioux.
Hey, sorry for the paragraph! I don't know ANYTHING about that fandom but I'm pretty sure she's meant to be Indigenous (people on Twitter saying that they imagine her to be an Indigenous girl based on rebellion and descriptors) so please correct me otherwise! I also don't know anything about her age but saw she's 33 in the epilogue and much younger otherwise so please don't use any of my suggestions for anybody under 18. 💌

The radio station was originally supposed to launch last April but was delayed because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunication Commission granted AMMSA a pair of broadcasting licenses four years ago to launch two radio stations. The society is currently operating a station in Calgary, which launched in 2018.

Magushin (grandmother) the summer Is warm.
We sit at the kitchen table and share of pot of fresh cedar tea between us as she tells me stories about when she was a young girl, about how her and her siblings would play in the bush all day with one another and how she would carry her baby brother on her back, She smiles fondly at the memories I smile with her.
I think this and along with the tea warms her heart.
In the evening, after dinner me and my grandma will go outside to watch the sun set over the field, She tells me how pretty the sky looks pink, as if the clouds are blushing over us. She has her smoke and collects little stones at the end of the dirt road and tells me that they remind her of the small things she had come to love in her life and puts them away in her coat pocket to carry home.
“This one looks like a minks paw print, look at that mitauzhin (grandchild)”
And I look, and on the small stone I can see it’s faint outline.
- - - -
One evening when we go out for our usual evening smoke she stops and tells me to listen, so I do. I stand still, hold my breath, and listen to the evening around me. closing my eyes.
In the distance there is an owl hooting, waking up and greeting the warm evening air. My grandma points towards the trees with her lips where she thinks it lives and tells me,
“thats my buddy, He comes to Keep me company when I have my smoke”
This makes my laugh, my grandmother is close friends with the birds that live in this field.
- - - -
When I was walking back through the little field that separates my grandmas house and my parents house I could smell some wild field mint, I could smell at first in the evening air and everything begins to cool and grow damp.
I think to myself, ‘I would like to pick some for my grandma, we’ll have fresh mint tea’
It smells good and I follow it along the trail made by the Rez dogs but just before I go to take another step I feel as if I shouldn’t, When I stop and look beneath my foot there is a what remains of a speckled brown shell hiding in the grass. I take this as a blessing and carry it in my hand softly and continue my walk over.
I walk inside and find my grandmother by the table again in her spot, she’s reading a book and listening to the radio.
“Magushin, look at what I found”
I hold my hand out and for a moment I feel like I am ten years old again showing my grandmother my finds from my adventures in the fields and tree’s, I think she feels the same way.
Her eyes light up as she adjusts her glasses on her old brown nose and my chest fills up, I think she misses seeing us small.
She tells me to go place it in the plant pot by the front door, says it‘ll bring us lucky, I’m not sure If i believe her but I also know to never doubt her words. I open up the soil and bury it near the roots.
