For me, censorship laws are a lot like the death penalty. There are people I wish would die, but I don't want the government to have any say over who lives or dies (because then they can stretch laws out to justify killing someone they dont like). There are stories that I think are reprehensible and should have never been written, but I don't want the government to have any say over which stories are reprehensible (because then they can stretch out what they deem wrong out to fit anything they don't like)

Petition to the Government of Canada
Whereas:
Civilians in Gaza are enduring prolonged periods without food as aid is blocked and seekers are targeted—conditions consistent with the use of starvation as a weapon, in violation of international law;
UN agencies confirm mass starvation in Gaza is man-made and preventable, with over one million children at risk of dying from hunger and disease;
More than 875 Palestinians have been killed at food distribution sites since May 2025, in strikes condemned as war crimes;
Nearly 90% of Gaza’s population has been forcibly displaced into increasingly uninhabitable zones without access to food, water, or medical care;
Hospitals, schools, journalists, UN workers, and aid centers have been repeatedly attacked, in violation of international humanitarian law;
The United Nations, the International Criminal Court, and human rights experts have opened or supported investigations into war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza;
Canada is a signatory to the Geneva Conventions and Rome Statute and is legally obligated to prevent war crimes and genocide;
Canada continues to export arms and issue military contracts to Israel while offering diplomatic protection;
Inaction in the face of atrocities is complicity, not neutrality; and
Canadians across communities have called for a ceasefire, an end to military support, and the protection of all civilian life.
We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Call on the Government of Canada to immediately suspend all arms exports to Israel;
2. Support war crimes investigations;
3. Demand unrestricted aid access; and
4. End its complicity in violations of international law.

Speak up for exotic cats in British Columbia!
The BC SPCA is looking for support in changing regulations and making exotic cat ownership illegal in the province of British Columbia, Canada. Currently it is entirely legal for anyone to import, keep, breed, and sell wild exotic cats such as servals, asian leopard cats, and caracals, despite recorded welfare issues and community safety risks.
These are wild animals with wild instincts, and keeping them in a home or selling them to inappropriate households for a profit is inhumane and exploitative. Other Canadian provinces, such as neighbouring Alberta, have laws and regulations in place against the captivity of these wild animals, and it’s time for BC to catch up.
Learn more about the BC SPCA’s campaign to change regulations here, and get in contact with the Ministry of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship. They even have a pre-written letter you can send, how convenient!

The Liberal government’s plan to find billions of dollars in operating efficiencies would require a 24 per cent cut in public service spending and “devastate the federal government,” according to the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. Prime Minister Mark Carney’s campaign platform included savings from “increased government efficiency,” with $6 billion in savings in 2026-27 and $13 billion a year in 2028-29.

Alberta added 27 new measles cases over the weekend, with two found in the Edmonton area. Alberta Health Services reported another 17 new cases in the north zone and eight in the south.
The new cases bring the total count since March to 1,217. Twelve of those cases were reported as being active and transmissible on Monday. The new Edmonton cases come after AHS alerted the public to multiple measles exposures in the capital city last week.

Sooooo few people are actually willing to defend the basic human rights of people who have committed crimes. Like I know it's not fun but if you genuinely believe in human rights as a concept you can't be okay with the state violating them in prisons I'm sorrrrry. Having moral principles is not always a fun time.

In Calgary on Thursday, Smith told reporters that people in her province are both frustrated and angry with Ottawa. “I’ve never seen such a high level of separatist sentiment,” Smith said. She referenced a byelection in the province on Monday that saw a separatist candidate earn nearly 18 per cent of the vote in Alberta’s Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills riding. While Smith claims that the recent election results were record-breaking when it came to separatist support, the Canadian Press reports that a 1982 byelection in the same riding saw a separatist candidate snag more than 40 per cent of votes and win the race.

Ig we have our own police force now. It's not like the funding that's going to go to a useless idea could be used for schools, Healthcare, or literally any other important things 🙄🙄 this province tires me sometimes
Alberta names provincial police force, appoints former Calgary officer as first chief
So I guess that referendum on the topic isn't happening, surprise surprise 🙄

One of the things which I think should be most shocking to people who have no experience with Homeless shelters is how often they have policies which *actively make it harder for their residents to find or keep a job*.
What happens if you have a strict curfew but the bus back from your new job only comes once every hour? Better hope you don't leave work even five minutes late, otherwise you ain't getting to sleep indoors tonight! Hope that doesn't impair you at work tomorrow!
Also, better not try to get any swing or night shift work!
This is so obviously stupid and counterproductive that I think those of us who have never had first-hand knowledge of being homeless can't imagine that this kind of stuff is *normal* in American shelters.
Like legitimately they seem designed to keep people homeless.
