Hello I hope this isn't too annoying but I really want to share with you how your work has inspired me. I've been telling my therapist how I've found that imagining the sources of my intrusive thoughts as characters who live in my head telling me awful disturbing shit helps me deal with them.

So she requested for me to create one of those characters as a physical object I could see and touch, and I chose to create this oracle character representing the source of my anxious/catastrophizing thoughts (i. e. she's a soothsayer who only ever tells me all the things that could go horribly wrong)

And so before I could panic because I had never made a poseable doll before I remembered all the process pics you've shared on Twitter and I also dove head-first into your FAQ. Looked up a random tutorial for the wire body and here are the results! Obviously not a professional work by any means, but I still wouldn't have been able to create it if I hadn't been following your work these past few months.

In case you're curious, I used air-dry clay for her head/hands/feet and her body is made of plastic bags cut into strips. Her outfit is made of fabric scraps I bought from a local seamstress and I really wanted to try yarn wefts for her hair, but I was running out of time to complete her so I just bought a cheap hair extension and glued some of it directly onto her head. The disc she holds was originally intended to be a black scrying mirror, but I couldn't make it on time so I just painted over a cheap portable mirror with white nail polish.

What are some notably bad takes you've seen on the Dick Pic incident?

Ok my biggest frustration with Dick Pic Incident takes are that most of them tend to take it as a very conventional #metoo sexual harrassment narrative. This flattens their characters and their relationship so much. Within this narrative, Roman is the predator and Gerri is the victim. Imo, the people who have this take are more likely to see Roman as being a sex pervert and are not the type to see Gerri as being predatory or as betraying him. I don't agree with literally any of those takes, obviously.

I feel like the whole narrative of Gerri as victim and Roman as predator completely misunderstands the intention of the dick pics proper because they are unable to let go of the socially normative idea of what an unsolicited dick pic is for. So, people tend to assume Roman intended to impose his will over her, to sexually threaten her, humiliate her or undermine her. This also leads to a misunderstanding of why the dick pic was so fucked up for Logan and why it was the final nail in the coffin for Roman. The idea that Roman was doing this with aggression goes against his entire deal as being the inverse of his father’s masculine ideals. Roman sent those pictures out of this hysterical overflow of psychosexual anxieties regarding the possibility of genuine emotion without the pretense of business. It parallels his anxieties about his mother’s wedding wherein he identifies with his mother and his anxieties about Logan’s feelings toward him. It seems people are forcibly decontextualising the incident so as to make it fit a particular narrative since that's the only way they can make sense of this or they're misinterpreting his character entirely as someone who is far more proactive and by extension, masculine than he actually is.

The other element is people misinterpreting Gerri's feelings about the dick pics. Like, she's not traumatised and she doesn't feel threatened by him. To some degree, Gerri legitimately sees herself as superior to Roman and able to control him to some degree. With the dick pics, he was getting out of her control but, I still don’t believe she understood this as him asserting himself or sexually threatening her. To Gerri, it was him being hysterical and clingy because if he really were asserting himself, he’d be able to act more independently and he clearly isn’t. His attachment to her is really the crux of her problem with this. What she wants is for him to let go of this libidinal attachment to her because she sees it as weighing her down and for him to learn to manage his libido so he could use it for more productive ends. Roman is unable to do this because his libido is what has guided every major career decision he’s made; it’s the libido that goes first, not the professional goals. She didn’t fully understand this and this is also why she thought their interests were aligned.

I think that both have a hard time situating themselves in relation to each other within the hierarchy. Within their “special conference calls” it’s simple but, in business, it isn’t. Roman assumes Gerri sees him for him-- that she sees him as impotent but, Gerri doesn’t see that and she expects him to “mature” out of this and advance himself. Both understand that regardless of her expectations, Roman’s power does largely come from his relation to Logan. The dick pics were obviously a huge liability to Gerri and she understood Roman as getting preferential treatment because he’s Logan’s son-- after all, that’s why she’s stuck with him in the first place. I think Roman can’t calculate the weight this has so, while he’s aware that this matters and it’s why she’s stuck with him, he likely didn’t expect his father to even suggest killing Gerri in favour of him. I think that a lot of people miss the complexity of the power dynamics here and don’t understand how Roman sees himself within the hierarchy.

Wolf and Bess both have such amazing hair … why do I have a feeling they have a box somewhere just filled with assorted scrunchies, barrettes, and other hair accessories. Then, when kids come over, instead of dress up, they play hair salon?

All I envision is Pack members getting specifically timed calls asking them to come to the Wolves' and when they get there, there are at least two other members seated in chairs, having their hair and faces turned into... unique creations, and Bess or Wolf just being like. "Ah, right on time for your appointment! Have a seat and one of our talented stylists will be with you shortly." I can see Bess also getting play makeup, press-on nails, clip-in extensions maybe even some cheap, child-friendly, wash-out hair dye, face stickers, fake tattoos ("Because ve do EVERYT'INK at de Fantabumazing Hair Prettying-Up Place, Da'link.")--girl just collects a whole trunkful of stuff to enrich the experience.

Bess, of course, plays the manager and helps with the hair dyes and handles the tattoos. She also is in charge of the "social media page" for the salon, i.e. snapping a bunch of pics and posting them to the Pack's group text. Wolf handles the appointment bookings and collects the fees. And he's a hard-ass about it, lol. He also makes sure that the clients tip their talented stylists. (Tips are just treats from the goodie tote the Wolves keep stashed away.)

Oh my god, she loves you. 2023 costume contest

I'm not going to show all 27 entries in this post, but here were the winners.

People really do seem to like the cute, simple costumes, so Susan "La Shay" won 🥇 with her cactus. My mind immediately goes "but it's just a green sweater, some cut up pipe cleaners, a few fake flowers, and some brown fabric". However, I have to admit it's cute and clever. (Sorry, these images are from my computer screen.)

I got 2nd 🥈 with my Undertaker cosplay. It's extensive and expensive, and I freaking shaved 🪒 my eyebrows off, wore contacts all day, wore long coffin nails 💅 all morning, and kept a dog biscuit in my mouth much of my time out of my workspace to commit to the bit. I'm also wearing not just the cassock and mute robe but the cassock and two layers of mute robes! It was a cold day, but later (in the afternoon, after the parade), I removed some layers, as well as the wig and some accessories, like the nails 💅, lockets (hard to see in the photos here), and hat.

The person taking our photos was none other than Becky T., who lost to me that morning, when the pumpkin contest results were announced. She's not a professional photographer, but sheesh I feel like she used these photos as payback. 😆 Because she took that full-body pic standing on a chair, which makes me look shorter than I already am, and that's the pic she chooses out of the few full-body pics she took... and I actually growled at her 😂 through my dog biscuit when she flipped the rim of my hat up to get a closeup of my face w/ the contacts. My mouth was too occupied for me to explain she shouldn't flip his hat up like that....

3rd 🥉 went to Chris and Virginia, a married couple. Chris is on my Rad Chem team, and Virginia is our boss's boss's secretary. I never saw the movie The Warriors, but looking into it, I can tell they did a good job portraying rival gangsters.

The voting was online, just like with the pumpkins, but for whatever reason, you could vote for up to three costume entries. Some of the people voting for me said they also voted for Chris and Virginia.

The contest took place entirely on the 31st, and we got the results the following day.

We also had a chili cook off that day, and I didn't enter, but I was one of the official judges. We had two votes, as usual, for the chili contest: judges' choice and peer voting. First place 🥇 on both chili ballots went to Anna M., who is a team lead in Organic Chemistry. She also entered the costume contest, wearing an inflatable dinosaur costume, like this one I found online:

There was also an inflatable Pillsbury Dough Boy in the contest. Many of the people who dressed up participated in a parade through several floors of our laboratory, after I fulfilled my duties as a chili judge. I'll have to ask around for footage of the parade.... 🤔 😊

I might later download all the pics from the costume contest to post here... eventually. Oh, yeah! I forgot we got a group pic after the parade! Becky T. is the pickle/cucumber on the far right.
