The video accompanying this project (turn the subtitles ON ^^)
Tumblr media
Among Nelvana's numerous productions and co-productions, not all of them have great ambitions in their animation and/or storytelling quality. And we can see that with our topic : "Mysticons" !
Tumblr media
Notable changes : -each Mysticon obtains a spirit that they can fuse with and becomes their weapons; the girls can talk with their spirits by telepathy and once they obtains their own Codex part, the spirits can become their mount (the spirits have their original griffin mounts'names) -Em's totem becomes the Griffin; because given her connection with them in the original series, I think it's a waste that they're not her mystic animal -Zarya's totem becomes the Unicorn; because a wolf is pretty bland among a dragon, a unicorn and a phoenix (she also changes her surname to fit my rewrite) -their masks are not just accessories, they magically alter how people sees them, making them impossible to recognize unless being already in the secret.
Tumblr media
Arkayna Goodfey, Mysticon Dragon Mage
In my new scenario, I'd like to make Arkayna even more proud, dignified in her role as princess but also vain and selfish. By becoming a Mysticon with Izzie and regularly heabutting with Zarya, she'd become aware of the world's realities and be more empathetic towards others.
Tumblr media
Emerald "Em" Goldenbraid, Mysticon Griffin Knight
In my rewrite, Em wouldn't just be the protagonist's chubby self-effacing best friend. She would also be a huge craftmagic geek, namely the art of making magical objects or weapons (think artificers in D&D). Indeed, she's capable of making useful tinkering projects, repairing damaged devices and seeks to unlock the secret of her own blade's steel. But her passivity and shyness prevent her from truly expressing her talent and passion as she'd like to. Maybe with Topaz, things could change.
Tumblr media
Zarya Moonstrike, Mysticon Unicorn Ranger
For my rewrite of the scenario, I don't really know if I'd keep the revelation of Zarya's original backstory (that I won't tell here because SPOILERS). But I'd like to keep her headbutting with Arkayna as much as possible. Which would contrast with their respective spirit who get along very well. I would also make her a gang leader who makes sure that other kids from the slums don't fall into serious crime. Piper would be her second in command, the idea being that they'd be too dependent on each other and would need to distance themselves in order to grow healthily.
Tumblr media
Piper Willowbrook, Mysticon Phoenix Striker
In my new version of the scenario, I want to make Piper even more attached to Zarya and her abandonment issues more heavy. As the plot progresses, she'd learn to confide her fears to her friends and become more independent.

How Well The Mysticons Represent Different D&D Classes
As I've mentioned earlier, Mysticons was based on Dungeons and Dragons. Because of this, I will be comparing the Mysticons to Dungeons and Dragons classes. I will only be comparing them to fifth Edition classes, since that's the only edition I'm really familiar with.
MYSTICON RANGER: Mysticon Ranger is actually pretty close to the Ranger class in Dungeons and Dragons. The name's the only one that is a class, and while a ranger doesn't have to use a bow and arrow, that's a common weapon for them to use. Zarya also is shown to have tracking skills, which is a ranger-like trait. While a rogue would work for her as well, due to her life on the streets, rangers work to.
MYSTICON KNIGHT: Mysticon Knight does resemble a class is D&D, but not a fighting one like the name implies. While she does use a sword and shield, due to Em's inventions, I see her more of an artificer. However, if we're just looking at the Mysticon powers themselves, a knight fits well, as a sword and shield are typical knight tools.
MYSTICON DRAGON MAGE: While there are plenty of magic classes in Dungeons and Dragons, there isn't a "mage" class in fifth edition. Two similar ones are wizard and sorcerer. I personally would assign the Sorcerer class to Arkayna, as her royal status and leadership skills implies a high charisma, which sorcerers are known for. She does use a staff, which can be used by spellcasters in Dungeons and Dragons, and she does seem the most likely to use magic.
MYSTICON STRIKER: There is no class called the Striker class. According to one interview by Sean Jara and Matt Fergeson, she was supposed to be the monk. However, one thing monks are known for in Dungeons and Dragons are unnarmed strikes, which Piper (nor any Mysticon) ever use. However, monks are meant to have high dexterity, which certainly fits Piper.

Mysticon Ninjas & Teenage Mysticon Ninja Turtles: By Hero Central: 8/8/2021-27/8/2020:
With my fan fiction Teenage Mysticon Ninja Turtles reaching its climax, I felt it was right to post these fan art pieces. Within the last few chapters the Mysticons stripped of their powers become ninjas under the training of Splinter and the Turtles. Later when the Mysticons regain their powers the Turtles become Mysticons themselves.
Leo: Mysticon Dragon Warrior
Raph: Mysticon Defender
Mikey: Mysticon Seeker
Donnie: Mysticon Alchemist
I was waiting until I did both designs to post these and here they are. Feel free to check out the story as we come to its end.

I feel in most of the Japanese shows, the main magical girl is kind of always a clear continuation of Sailor Moon’s Usagi - a bit naive, ultra friendly, clumsy, girly, not good with school, but with the power of love. Like main characters in the Precure franchise. There are exceptions of course (Cure Black and Cure Blossom), but western magical girls have a lot more variety!
Bloom from Winx Club was a fantasy nerd with short temper, Will from W.i.t.c.h. was a sensitive tomboy, Marinette from Miraculous may be friendly and clumsy, but big part of her character is how much more confident she is as Ladybug and she is artistically talented, Arkayna from Mysticons is a spoiled princess, Star Butterfly is a rebel princess who loves fighting, Twilight Sparkle is a too-serious nerd. And more often than not - they are not even wearing pink!”

Arkayna Goodfey for the character ask
hate them | don't really care | like them | LOVE them | THEY ARE MY PRECIOUS
Ship with: Only ship I like with her is Malkayna, Goldenfey isn't my thing but it's cute, Z**kayna is disgusting and anyone who ships it can f off, and GoldenGood is awful
General opinion: MY GIRL. She's the best character in the show (my opinion), a great leader, AND she's beautiful inside and out! Love her! (And unpopular opinion: She's GALAXIES better than Zarya.)
Thanks for the ask!

As a Father’s Day treat, here is a chapter frim Untold Tales!
Regrets
Upon entering the Stronghold, Zarya almost immediately went for her room. It had definitely been a long day. When she inspected her room, it seemed untouched. Perfect, everything is where I want it. Indeed, everything seemed to be as they should be, she's back on the team, she made peace with her friends, and they all made it home in once piece. And yet...
Suddenly, Zarya's cocky smirk faded, as she felt a tightness in her chest. She could not help but think of what happened in the past few days. A lot had happened, leading to the Ruthless Dreadbane obtaining not only the Dragon Disk, but also a piece of the The Almighty Codex. But what really made Zarya sick to her stomach, was the fact that she almost lost someone whom she looked after like a little sister, Piper. Perhaps worst of all, it was Zarya's fault.
Zarya felt especially bad after that thought. She tried to shrug it off, but it was no use, guilt was eating her alive. She thought about walking it off in the Undercity, but the last thing she wanted was for everyone to feel like she was running away again. Then, something came to mind. There was still one person she hadn't talked to since she got back, Zorlon.
Zarya sighed. She never was one to open up, preferring to keep her feelings to herself as a means to never show weakness. That said, talking to Zorlon somehow sounded like a nice idea. "Preeep!" Called out Choko, as he crawled on Zarya's shoulder, rubbing her head caringly.
"You think I should talk to Zorlon about this Choko?" Zarya quietly asked. Choko nodded his head yes, causing Zarya to sigh again. "I was afraid you were gonna say that." With that, she patted his head, and set him on his little bed that was above her hammock. "Okay, here we go."
Zarya snuck through the halls of th stronghold. At this point everyone went to bed. Well, almost everyone. Luckily, Zorlon always read a book or two before calling it a night. Sure enough, there he was in the study, reading a book. She took a deep breath just before entering the study, her left hand gripping her right arm.
"Hey, Zorlon." Zarya said casually. Zorlon then turned to look at the young rebel, with a stone cold face no less.
"Well, as I live and breath. Zarya Moonwolf." Zorlon said, coldly. Zarya then had her face positioned down, bracing herself for shouting. To her surprise, she felt his hand on her shoulder. When she looked up, she saw a smile on his face. "Welcome back, Zarya." That at least put a smile on her face, it would certainly make talking with him easier.
"Honestly, after what I've been through, feels good to be back." Zarya said. "So, hittin' the ole books huh? Let me guess, spell books? Book about Beasts?"
"Nope" replied Zorlon. "An adventure novel, Jarrick and The Cursed Island. It takes me back in my days as a young rebel." They both chuckled quite a bit at that. Zorlon then placed his book down and turned to look at Zarya. "So, what's on your mind?" Zarya's small smile then turned to a regretful frown. Zorlon picked up on that quickly, showing concern. "What's wrong?"
"I blew it... I blew it big time." Zarya said weakly, her voice breaking. "I thought I could trust Kitty, I thought she was my friend. When everyone was against her, I got so mad that I didn't see the truth they were trying to find out." By this point, small tears formed in her eyes. "And now I messed up! None this would have happened if I had just listened and never crushed the stupid logs! Now, because of me, we lost the Dragon Disk, we lost the Codex Piece, and we almost lost... Piper. All, because I... didn't want to believe the others... all because I didn't want to believe Kitty was an enemy."
From there, Zorlon could see what was bothering Zarya. No doubt this was haunting her ever since day one. While her tears were small, they were filled with so much pain and guilt. A small bit of silence filled the study afterward.
"It is true. You did make few mistakes." Zorlon said, breaking the silence, approaching the young rebel. "And no matter how much you might want to, you can't ever erase them. However..." He then placed a finger under Zarya's chin, gently tilting her head at eye level. "What's important is how you choose to handle your mistakes. We could either let our mistakes haunt us for the rest of our lives, or we can learn from them, and become all the stronger for it." Zorlon then gave an assuring smile. "Fact remains is you came through for your sisters in arms when it counted most. In that moment, you displayed courage, selflessness, and above all, loyalty. That alone makes you a remarkable individual, Zarya. That's why the disk chose you. Nothing should ever tell you different."
Silence befell the study once again. Much to Zorlon's surprise, Zarya rested her forehead on his chest, and started to lightly sob. She wasn't completely sure why she did so. Somehow, it felt so nice to let out her emotions and share them with someone, and to the mighty mage of all people.
At first, Zorlon wasn't sure what to make of this. He wasn't use to seeing the most rebellious member of the new generation of Mysticons so vulnerable before, at least not to this degree. All he knew for certain was that she really needed a friend more than anything at that very moment. Out of sympathy, Zorlon gave Zarya a warm hug, to which the teen held him tightly, sobbing a little bit more. The hug lasted a good long while until Zorlon looked at the clock on the wall. He lightly patted Zaya's shoulder before pulling back.
"Best to get some rest now, Zarya. You've had a long day."
Wiping a few tears she had left, Zarya made her way back to her room. Before exiting, she turned back to face Zorlon, with a smile no less. "Thanks, Zorlon." She said, shortly before she left. Zorlon then smiled himself, getting back to some last minute reading before much else.
As Zarya made her way back to her room, she felt much better than she did before. She still wasn’t sure what came over her. Sure, she was upset, but she never got all touchy feelings like that before, much less with her “stick in the mud” solon. Was she merely starving for a parent figure all this time? After all, all this time she had been looking after Piper, herself, and no doubt even The Pinkskulls back in the day. Perhaps it was her turn to seek guidance after all these years.
Whatever the case, Zarya began to have a new sense of enlightenment. True, she messed up, but she made up for it, and she would only continue to make up for it from there. She then made her way to her hammock, and prepared for a much needed good night's sleep.

Thoughts on Episodes 31-40
TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE GOLDEN HEART: This is a really cute Em episode, and seeing Citrine work with the Mysticons was cool.
THE LAST DRAGON: I loved this episode, and seeing how the old man we saw throught the show was more than he let on was fun. I expected him to be more than he let on, but I didn't expect him being a dragon.
GAME OF PHONES: This was kinda interesting, but as we never saw Zarya addicted to video games before, it seemed kinda exaggeerated. Then again, they did justify it by saying it was the new release of a certain game franchaise Zarya got hooked on before when new ones came out.
THE FOZ WHO SAVED LOTUS NIGHT: I never expected a Christmas episode to have zombies, but it worked.
HEART OF STONE: This was a really cute and sweet episode. Plus I like dwarves in Dnd, so it was cool to see more of Rudick's Hollow and the dwarves who live there.
MONSTER HUNT: Piper was kinda immature in this episode. Also, considering this was the last Piper-centric episode, I kinda wanted Piper backstory. Introducing struggles with the mask was cool though.
THE PRINCESS AND THE PIRATE: This episode was really fun to watch, and had a good message about the importance of communication. I also think sending the Pink Skulls to stop marauders was cool for the group.
ETERNAL STARSHINE OF THE MAGE'S MIND: I liked seeing more of what Proxima went through, and was a good episode for Arkayna and Proxima's relationship as honorary sisters.
FEAR THE SPECTRAL HAND: This was an amazing episode with so many cool scenes. I like Dreadbane turning good and calling himself General Bane, as well as how Proxima apoligized to Nova Terron, and was forgiven.
AGE OF DRAGONS: This was a good finale, though Em and Piper did take a back seat to Arkayna and Zarya, which is kind of dissapointing, as I like all main characters to share the spotlight in the finale (I would discuss how they would fix it, but as this focused soley on each episode seperately, that will have to wait for another post)

In honor of the (probably last) Mysticons graphic novel coming out this week, I’m going to try and type up the Mysticons AU I’ve been kicking around ever since The Edge of Two Morrows aired.  Essentially, what if the Dragon Disk chose four other teenagers to be the new Mysticons?
As in the episode, Tazma hired Mathis instead of Zarya and Piper, but in this universe, she went to the palace with her brother, and between the two of them, they were able to save Arkayna and the queen, but not the king, from Dreadbane.  While Malvaron got the royals (and Em) to safety, the queen tasked Tazma with finding Gawayne before Dreadbane did.  On her way, she finds Proxima, who came along to try and prove herself by protecting the Dragon Disk, only to find it already gone!  Tazma sends her to find Gawayne instead, saying she’ll track down the disk, but really intending to turn back to her shadow mage disguise and get the disk from Mathis for herself.
Meanwhile, Mathis, making his getaway with the Dragon Disk, happened to bump into Gawayne on his first date with Lateensia, at the same time that Proxima caught up to them.  They all end up touching the disk, and bam!  New Mysticons:
Gawayne - Dragon Mage Proxima - Ranger Mathis - Striker Lateensia - Knight
Here things go about the same as the first episode: new Mysticons fight Dreadbane (badly), he retreats, and Mathis makes off with the Dragon Disk in order to collect his pay.  But this time the other Mysticons go after him right away, mostly because of Proxima insisting they do it, and Gawayne knowing his stepmom will never let him hear the end of it if she finds out he let the Dragon Disk get stolen (unaware that it’s his fault Mathis got his hands on it in the first place).  Thus, they get to Mathis before he can hand over the Dragon Disk to the shadow mage, and after her defeat, Tazma appears in her Astromancer robes and acts all surprised about there being new Mysticons.  Not suspecting a thing, Proxima reveals herself to her.  The others drop their Mysticon-ness, too, and Tazma tells Gawayne about his dad.
While Gawayne reacts to the news, Mathis tries to sneak away, but Tazma restrains him, and tells the group that the only way to defeat Dreadbane and undo the spell is to collect the pieces of the codex.  And thus they agree to be a team!
In this version, Tazma is still working with Dreadbane, but doesn’t reveal her hand as early as she did before, pretending to be the Mysticons’ faithful solon, but giving Dreadbane information covertly.  Her true plan is to wait it out until the codex is complete, then take its power for herself.
The first codex piece doesn’t get found nearly as quickly, as it takes quite some time for the group to learn to work together, mainly because they clash over who should be the leader.  Gawayne insists it should be him, since he’s a prince and the Dragon Mage, who was the leader of the OG Mysticons.  Mathis thinks it should be him, since he has the skills of a lifetime of living in the undercity.  Proxima says it should be her because she’s the only one who had any experience using magic in combat before becoming a Mysticon (in a training setting, sure, but it still counts!), and Lateensia doesn’t really care, but if the position is up for grabs, why shouldn’t it be her?
I don’t really know how exactly everything else would play out, but being Mysticons would of course cause them all to grow as people, as they learn to be a team, look out for people besides themselves, and find out what it really means to be a hero.
A few more thoughts:
Lateensia treats the whole thing like a summer internship, even going so far as to say she and Gawayne can’t date because she doesn’t want to get involved with a co-worker.  This isn’t as devastating to Gawayne as it is in the show, since they’d really only had half a date at that point.  He is still bummed out, though, and will occasionally try to woo her during their downtime, to no avail.
Proxima and Mathis bond over being orphans.
The queen figures out that Gawayne is a Mysticon pretty early on, but keeps it to herself.  Thus, she’s even more lenient about him skipping out on his royal duties, which frustrates Arkayna even more than before.  Especially since she’s been saddled with an astromancer bodyguard (her mom claims Gawayne has one, too, but that is little consolation, especially since she’s never seen them).  Said bodyguard is Malvaron, of course.
Em is still griffin wrangler, and plenty of times she’s been almost certain that the Dragon Mage is really Gawayne, but each time she thinks that, she’s all “Gawayne?  The Dragon Mage?  Naaaaaah!”
Zarya and Piper briefly join the Pink Skulls when Dreadbane hires them to get the Dragon Disk, but Piper’s jealousy causes the mission to go awry, meaning they don’t get the disk.  Also, we learn that Mathis’ beef with Zarya partly had to do with her swooping into the undercity a few years ago and winning the hearts of the other orphans with her outlandish stories of her days as a sky pirate, which up until then he’d assumed were completely made up.  (Dreadbane still gets the wolf codex piece, since Tazma, still acting as the Mysticons’ solon, feeds him the information he needs, and since it was eaten by a caveworm, he gets it without the disk.)

That's it, I'm running for Mysticon fandom queen. The three of you that are left, y'all want me to do this? Here are the reasons why I'd make a good candidate-
1. I have tons of fanart in the works, and love making content for it
2. This show ended, like, three? years ago and I'm still not over it
3. I've been here since "Eye for an Eye"
4. No fandom drama on my watch
5.Willing to talk about it 25/8, no can ever shut me up about it
6: My user is literally a refrence to Zarya (It's a long story)
7: Because why not? I'm bored, and it would be something I could put in my bio
Tell me if you guys agree

Alrighty, Arkayna Goodfey!
Yay! This should be fun *rubs hands together while smirking*
Favorite thing - Definitely her confidence and go-getter leading attitude. That is one of my favorite female character tropes in the Magical Girl genre; even more so with the girly-girl type characters like her. She’s my favorite character from the show, I’ve loved her since day one.
Least favorite thing - My only one is in Quest of the Vexed when she was ignoring Em. I liked her the rest of the episode, however.
Favorite quote - Anything where she’s roasting Gawayne the Goofball. You’d think it’d be something meaningful (which I do love all of those quotes, by the way), but I really enjoy seeing her burn him haha.
BrOTP - Definitely, I BrOTP her with Em. Their friendship is everything I never knew I needed and more.
OTP - You likely know this by now, but… Malkayna is my favorite ship in the series. They’re adorable, funny, and they work extra well together. I’ve shipped them ever since I saw the first episode when it premiered, fun fact!
NOTP - I saw someone who shipped her with Dreadbane. Just… no. No. I like him as a villain, but not with her.
Random headcanon - She loves to research the strange words Piper makes up on Urban Dictionary. If it isn’t there, she’ll add it to the site.
Unpopular opinion - I don’t see why so many people in the fandom (at least what I’ve seen) disliked her so much. Sure, she may be bossy and ignorant sometimes, but aren’t we all? Nobody’s perfect. Not to mention, she has a kind and caring heart, knows right from wrong, is willing to tell you what you need to hear, and is an excellent leader.
Song I associate with them - ‘Mother’s Daughter’ by Miley Cyrus. It fits perfectly for her, especially up until the second-to-last episode.
Favorite picture - The selfie from episode two!
Thanks for asking!
