I like to imagine Ranger and Hacksaw eventually died an undignified death. Or wound up starving, since there’s only so much they’d be able to hunt.

Not for the sake of Justice for Rainhaze, or Dustfeather, or Asphodelshine, or BarrenClan, but because I think it’d be extremely funny for them to just get fucking got by a larger predator or something.

I did want to imply for Ranger and Hacksaw's ending that because they were living in a town rather than the wild, they were raiding trashcans and scavenging a lot more than they used to. Which is definitely something very shameful for both of them; alive, but brought so low. But still managing to find life's little delights ~ (psychologically tormenting housepets).

Probably they got shot by animal control for being suspected rabid, or something. Oops.

Since there were two requests of this, I’ll do these little rascals first!!!

-Ranger has like CRAZZZYYYY bedhead 24/7, that’s why they wear their hat all the time.

-Once Ranger saw the video of Claire bullriding, they began to consider the “cowboy hat rule.” If ya know, ya know.

-Claire loves black cats, and it just so happens that Ranger reminds her of said animal.

-Ranger is allergic to peanuts.

-Claire had her two front teeth knocked out when she was 10-years-old because she tripped and fell— Ranger pokes fun at her for it (they secretly think it’s adorable!)

-Ranger has ASS. It’s canon.

-Ranger has a tongue piercing, and two piercings on each ear.

-Claire used to be a scrawny kid, untilll she managed to get herself a gym membership.

-Ranger’s love language is quality time, and some bit of physical touch.

-Ranger LOVES thigh pillows. Canon.

-Ranger’s eyes lit up like fireworks when they heard Claire burst out into laughter at the sight of them with flour covering them.

-Ranger has a small scar on the bridge of their nose— they got into HELLA fights as a lil’ kid.

-Ranger is the kind of drunk that cries over ANYTHING.

-Claire has like a sensitive head—skull? scalp?

-Ranger has a deeper voice tone when they yell— which scares more than most people.

-Claire has hella split ends.

-Once they get together, Claire will be getting head scratches for a LIFETIME.

This is Venwynn, or Wynne ("Winnie")!! Beloved harengon fey wanderer ranger <3

Still ironing out their backstory (what else is new lol) but I think Wynne's family, perhaps their grandparents or great grandparents? are feywild natives who relocated to the prime for reasons i haven't yet decided. Wynne spent their entire childhood hearing stories about life in the feywild, and the awesome and wonderous tales or their elders and ancestors. I think they really took an interest, and just on the brink of adolescence they began looking for ways to travel to the feywild themselves.

I kinda think they got there by accident, despite putting a lot of time and effort into getting there, stepping through a fairy circle by pure happenstance and finding themselves stuck in the feywild, unable to find a way home. Life in the feywild was NOT as fantastic as they had always dreamed, it turned out, and over the years they spent there they had to learn to survive and fend for themselves, quickly becoming quite an adept hunter and survivalist. In their young adulthood, they happened upon the archfey Cerunnos, who, impressed not just by their survival but their ability to thrive, offered to return them home, asking for nothing in return.

They easily took up the offer and were immediately transported back to the prime material plane, now sporting a large set of antlers as a mark of the Horned Lord. To their horror, however, it turns out that time flows differently in the feywild than it does in the material plane, and what was perhaps only a decade for Wynne ended up being perhaps almost a century in the mortal realm. Their home had been destroyed, their parents and siblings now all long dead, and they find themselves struggling to adjust to a world so much different from where they'd grown up.

I think their story arc would be about trying to find a place to belong, not quite suited for life in the prime but not quite wanting to return to the feywild. HOPEFULLY, it'll end up as a sort of found family sitch with the party they end up with, a bunch of misfits finding home and purpose with each other when there's no where else for them to go yknow?

Wynne means the world to me I love them so much <3

"A Rule of Fear"

I really wanted to play around with the framing device in this story, as I liked imagining the air of mystery that Defiance cultivated while they existed. I don't know who the unnamed narrator in this story is, it can be you if you want.

However with this framing device, I do understand that some of the details may be a little hard to glean, so here's a quick summary of everything that happened with Defiance. Deepdark got chronic wasting disease by eating the crow that had eaten Wild Rose, and at the end of his life he asked Prowl to kill him so he wouldn't die from the disease. In doing so he also killed Prowl, and after their deaths Defiance collapsed into chaos and became destroyed. Spike and Fang left to their own devices, but occasionally visit Deepdark and Prowl's gravesite, and Ranger and Hacksaw left for a nearby town to terrorize housepets.

A couple cameo characters appear from Issue 28, which I've used here in the panel on Page 2. Please refer to Issue 28 for user credits.

Shoutout to Deepdark for being one of my favorite characters I've ever written. He really was a blast to create, and I love how many people responded to his brand of overdramatic evil. Fly high, my freak. I'm planning to create a short comic about his childhood at some point, but I don't know when it'll be. Just be on the lookout!

The title for this story comes from Theodore Sturgeon's "Microcosmic God": “So he instituted a rule of fear. The most trivial departure from what he chose to consider the right way of doing things resulted in instant death of half a tribe.”
