Among Nelvana's numerous productions and co-productions, not all of them have great ambitions in their animation and/or storytelling quality. And we can see that with our topic : "Mysticons" !

Notable changes : -each Mysticon obtains a spirit that they can fuse with and becomes their weapons; the girls can talk with their spirits by telepathy and once they obtains their own Codex part, the spirits can become their mount (the spirits have their original griffin mounts'names) -Em's totem becomes the Griffin; because given her connection with them in the original series, I think it's a waste that they're not her mystic animal -Zarya's totem becomes the Unicorn; because a wolf is pretty bland among a dragon, a unicorn and a phoenix (she also changes her surname to fit my rewrite) -their masks are not just accessories, they magically alter how people sees them, making them impossible to recognize unless being already in the secret.

Arkayna Goodfey, Mysticon Dragon Mage

In my new scenario, I'd like to make Arkayna even more proud, dignified in her role as princess but also vain and selfish. By becoming a Mysticon with Izzie and regularly heabutting with Zarya, she'd become aware of the world's realities and be more empathetic towards others.

Emerald "Em" Goldenbraid, Mysticon Griffin Knight

In my rewrite, Em wouldn't just be the protagonist's chubby self-effacing best friend. She would also be a huge craftmagic geek, namely the art of making magical objects or weapons (think artificers in D&D). Indeed, she's capable of making useful tinkering projects, repairing damaged devices and seeks to unlock the secret of her own blade's steel. But her passivity and shyness prevent her from truly expressing her talent and passion as she'd like to. Maybe with Topaz, things could change.

Zarya Moonstrike, Mysticon Unicorn Ranger

For my rewrite of the scenario, I don't really know if I'd keep the revelation of Zarya's original backstory (that I won't tell here because SPOILERS). But I'd like to keep her headbutting with Arkayna as much as possible. Which would contrast with their respective spirit who get along very well. I would also make her a gang leader who makes sure that other kids from the slums don't fall into serious crime. Piper would be her second in command, the idea being that they'd be too dependent on each other and would need to distance themselves in order to grow healthily.

Piper Willowbrook, Mysticon Phoenix Striker

In my new version of the scenario, I want to make Piper even more attached to Zarya and her abandonment issues more heavy. As the plot progresses, she'd learn to confide her fears to her friends and become more independent.

Something I Noticed In "Lost and Found"

I already posted this on reddit, but I thought I'd share it here.

In the flashback in "Lost and Found", Zarya looks to be around 12 (I know that age isn't confirmed, but it seems right and the fandom generally agrees on that). If she is 12, that means roughly three years passed between the flashback and the series.

Now let's examine Piper's age to compare. She appears to be 11, but is 109-110. This shows that elves not only mentally mature slower, but physically as well, as she ages roughly one year for every 10 human years (I know she would technically be 10 in human years before episode 11, but's a short enough amount of time for it not to matter too much). As Piper would only age the equivalent of 3/10 of a human year, it would be expected that she looks similar to how she is in the show. However, she looks much younger in the flashback. In fact, she looks about 8-9 the same age (roughly) she would be if she aged the same as Zarya. I have two theories about this; one in-universe one and one meta-one. I also have a theory I decided is likely not the case, but I'll mention it.

The one I don't believe is that elves don't age at the same rate. So, she aged quickly, then it slowed shortly before the events of the show. However, this makes no sense. The chapter books imply that Piper was around for a bit even without living with Zarya, so I don't see her aging quickly when she was little. Also, that makes no sense, and would probably be too confusing for the show to do.

The in-universe one that I think it possible is that the flashback wasn't accurate. It was a nightmare Piper had. Because of this, while I feel most of it is accurate to what happened, some details might have been altered by her subconscious. She could have felt small at that moment, or after a tragedy, didn't really notice herself age, and still saw herself as the 80-90 (in elf years) elf she was when the tragedy happened, pushing the fact that she was really 106 out of her mind. It wasn't until later that Zarya gave her a sense of family and safety, helping her mentally see herself as her real age and move on (partially, as she still struggles with her past). While both options are slightly different, I put them together because the bottom line is the same: Piper's dream was how she saw herself, not reality.

The out-of-universe theory is that it was done by the writers, and didn't reflect the show's reality. It could have either been an oversight (they forgot that elves age slowly, so they de-aged Piper the same amount as Zarya), or purposefully (they wanted kids to know this is Piper's past, so they chose to make her look younger despite it not fitting in the show). While I think this idea is a bit more possible, as something similar was done (the Dragon Disk never calling Piper "Pyperia Ashrynn Elvenestri", as the audience knows her as Piper), it's less fun to think about.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on why Piper looks younger than she should have in her flashback nightmare (flashmare? Nightback?)
