Talk Between Arkayna and Zarya after "Game of Phones"

It was late, and Zarya knew she should be asleep, but couldn't. How could she, after she let a video game distract her from something that meant so much to her mom? And to make things worse, due to Proxima taking advantage of her video game addiction, Arkayna could have gotten hurt.

Her thoughts were inturrupted by a knock on the door. "Come in," Zarya said.

The door opened, and Arkayna was standing there. "Is everything OK?" she asked. "I saw your light on."

"It's nothing," Zarya said, looking away.

"Come on, Zarya," Arkayna said. "I know something's bothering you."

Zarya sighed. "I let that stupid video game distract me from something that was so important to Mom. It was my chance to connect to her, and I almost messed it up. Plus, Proxima knew I was hooked on the game, and used that to hurt you by pretending to be me."

Arkayna sat beside Zarya on the hammock. "Proxima and the Vexicons hexed the game, not you. You didn't know that it would happen."

"That doesn't excuse how I was more focused on the game then the Sky Lancer's festival," Zarya said. "And you even noticed it."

"True," Arkayna admitted. "And you did let the game take over. But you tried to fix it in the end, and that what matters."

"Maybe," Zarya said.

"We've all made mistakes," Arkayna said. "Remember when I abandoned the city, and you guys, to save our parents? You forgave me for that, right?"

"Yeah," Zarya said. "Thanks."

"Anytime," Arkayna said. "Well, try to get some sleep. We had a long day today."

What If Em Was Arkayna's Twin Instead of Arkayna?

Someone asked me this question on Discord, and I thought that this was an interesting idea. So, while it wouldn't be possible (Em is a dwarf), I thought I'd explore this idea.

First, I have to address the elephant in the room, which is Em being a dwarf. As Arkayna isn't a dwarf, it wouldn't work in the show. For this idea to work, Em would have to be a human, and we'll say that Zarya is a dwarf. Other than changing Rudick's Hollow to a human village instead of a dwarvish one, I don't think it will change much.

Now, let's explore how this would play out. Em would accidently touch the pillar instead of Zarya, and release the dragon. Em would be confused, as she knows her parents, so she couldn't be the long-lost twin. She would go to her parents, and ask about it, learning that she was adopted. Em would be heartbroken, and while it would harm her relationship with her parents initially, they would make up later.

There would be a new angle explored that Zarya didn't have. Zarya didn't have living parents, so balancing her birth parents and adoptive parents wouldn't be an issue. However, with Em, it would be. Eventually, she would accept that she has two parents.

This may not be the only option. Perhaps Em knew that she was adopted before the events of the series, and that's what inspired her to leave Rudick's Hollow to go to Drake City. Episode 6 would focus on the hard feelings because of that, instead of Em being embarrassed by her parents then later having trouble with her dad after he learned she was a griffin wrangler. In the end, she makes up with her parents.

While in the show, Zarya was happy that Arkayna was her twin and Arkayna had trouble processing it, I think if Em would also have difficulty processing it, as she doesn't know how she feels about her best friend suddenly becoming her sister, and is more confronted about the truth that Citrine and Malachite aren't her birth parents. This would even be stronger if we go with the idea of Em not knowing she was adopted. However, there relationship would end up becoming stronger in the end.

I think that it would be interesting for Queen Goodfey to. She would have to deal with the knowledge that she unknowingly made her daughter work for her, while that wasn't an issue with Zarya.

While this would never happen in the series, it was fun exploring this idea.
