WIBTA if I asked my girlfriend if she’s faking when we have sex because of the noises she makes in DND?
I’m going to start this by saying I know this is SUPER weird, and I may just be paranoid. I haven’t told any of my friends, or my girlfriend, because I don’t want to look like a huge creep, or like a jealous boyfriend.
Okay, so me (M25) and my girlfriend (F28) are in a DND campaign together with three other people. She’s the DM, and a super good one. She can do all kinds of voices, accents, pretty much anything.
Sometimes, during a session, we get into some spicy stuff. Everybody’s cool with it, and my girlfriend even asked if I was okay with it. I said absolutely, and we have had a lot of fun with it.
Lately, though, we’ve been getting into some really sexual stuff, which, again, everyone is cool with. One of the other players, a dark elf, had to have sex with a giant forest spirit in order to buy his freedom after being captured.
My friend ended up rolling really high on a lot of the rolls to satisfy the spirit, and my girlfriend got really into it. She moaned and begged for more, even leaning against the table. She even pretended to cum at the end. Everyone was laughing, especially the one with the dark elf character. I was laughing too, even though it was kind of weird to see my girlfriend like that.
A few nights later, we were having sex, and I stopped in the middle of it — she sounded EXACTLY like she did when she was pretending to have sex during the session. Even down to some of the things she said…
She might have just used her own experience for the role, so to speak. But I still can’t help but wonder if she’s faking it. I’ve asked her a few times (discreetly) if she enjoyed when we had sex, and she always said yes.
I don’t want to tell her why I think she might be faking, or she might think I’m jealous or doesn’t want her to have fun during DND. And I don’t want to make any of the other players feel weird about it.
But my last girlfriend revealed she was faking it the whole time we were dating when we broke up, or at least claimed she did. Since then I’ve been super afraid of my girlfriends lying to me, especially when it comes to sex. I can’t stand the thought of someone lying to me about this, especially someone I care about.
What should I do? I don’t want to be weird, but I want to be sure that she isn’t lying to me, and that having sex isn’t just a chore for her.
WIBTA if I asked? Or would I be more of an asshole if I didn’t?
What are these acronyms?

Spawn Astarion X Female Tav
Chapter 2/6-8
Chapter 1: https://www.tumblr.com/nexxen24/746439650196013056/the-sunwalkers-respite?source=share
NOTE: Pg-13, there will be no smut, only implied.
IMPORTANT: Please read the prologue and chapter one on my profile prior to this one as to not be confused, thank you.
Chapter Two
Cazador's Mansion, Baldur's Gate, 6 Months After the Absolute’s Demise
I awoke with a slight start and it got even worse when I realised that Astarion didn't have his arm wrapped around me and he was standing in direct sunlight. I let out a scream and ran over, pulling him back into darkness before looking him over for any spots that got burnt or affected by the sun. But he looked fine and chuckled before pulling out the small vial of elixir that was now empty, a very large grin plastered across his face. I glared and punched him in the shoulder, Astarion letting out a yelp and jumping back as I frowned at him.
“Ow!” He protested but I just frowned at him.
“That's what you get! You scared me half to death,” I shot back and he sighed before wrapping me in a hug.
“I wanted to surprise you, I'm sorry,” he muttered and kissed the top of my head. “It's just amazing, I can feel it warming my skin and not in a bad way.”
He grabbed my hand and slowly led me over to the beam of sunlight, stepping into it and grinning when he still didn't start sizzling. It had been six months since Astarion was able to walk in sunlight and I had forgotten what bright light did to his eyes. Usually they were just red, the kind of red that you'd see in wine, dark and somewhat shiny, nothing spectacular. But when the sun hit them you could see that his eyes were lighter, red like raspberries and looking so bright and sparkly against his pale skin. The light also hit his hair, shining against it and showcasing the small bits of silver within the white that I had been resisting the urge to bug him about. He couldn't see himself in mirrors so there was no need to point out the small grey hairs and besides, they looked beautiful anyways. In sunlight he looked like a completely different person and it just added to my desire to get that ring, to be able to wake up to this all the time, to see him in the light permanently.
“How are you feeling?”
“Overwhelmed.”
“The others will want to see you, they haven't since the brain,” I said and he nodded, giving me a smile.
“Can we start with Shadowheart? I need to ask her a favour,” he said and I raised a brow.
“What favour?”
“Just something that I have planned for later, at sunset and I need to guarantee that she's available.”
“Sure, her home is right near here. Shadowheart settled in the House of Grief, she's managed to change it, turn it into a house of healing and doesn't support any God, but appreciates them all with an affinity for Seluné.”
“Of course, I'm glad that she's happy.”
“Her and her girlfriend have turned it into something beautiful,” I added and smiled at the thought of Shadowheart and her newfound happiness.
When I met Shadowheart she was a devotee of Shar and stuck in a pod on the Nautiloid, begging me to rescue her. I did and brought her along, got to know her and together we discovered that her entire life was a lie. She wasn't a chosen of Shar, but was forced to live by her rules and halfway through our adventures she quit, gained her own freedom. Sure it cost her the lives of her parents after just getting them back but Shadowheart was happy, she was more carefree and eager to turn her place of torture into a place of love. She bought the House of Grief right after the brain was defeated and it took nearly three months to refurbish it into a refuge for those displaced by both the brain and the Absolute Cult’s reign of terror.
Her girlfriend, a fellow Half-High-Elf named Maisie that was one of the first refugees Shadowheart opened her doors to. They hit it off almost instantly and Maisie assists any animals while Shadowheart handles the humanoids. They make an excellent pair and the few times I've been by have been amazing and it's humbling to see how far she's come. From a devout worshipper of Shar, eager to do her bidding and willing to kill for her cause to a shy, timid woman who would put her life on the line for any creature. Much like Astarion, being wrapped up in all this gave her a chance to be free, to be happy.
I was smiling to myself at the thought of them both being happy as I reached up a hand to knock on the front door of the House of Grief. Astarion was behind me, standing directly in a sunbeam and smiling, his eyes sparkling whenever they met mine. I rolled my eyes at just how happy he looked and was about to call him out on it when the door swung open and I was greeted by Maisie.
“Hello, Maisie.”
“Hanelly, what are you doing here?” she asked and wrapped me in a tight hug, the squirrel perched on her shoulder squeaking in protest.
“I’m looking for Shadowheart, I have a development to show her,” I said and pointed at Astarion as Maisie’s eyes widened.
“Uh…Yeah…She’s this way.”
I nodded in thanks and called to Astarion before we followed Maisie inside and behind the receptionist counter where Shadowheart had discovered a small door that led to a staircase and an upper floor. There was an entire apartment above the main floor, decked out as if one of Viconia’s minions had once called it home. She and Maisie had since refurbished it and gave it their own personal touches, turning the apartment into a home they could be proud of. It was weird to see Shadowheart as someone with a home and a partner, a normal life but it was a simplistic existence that she deserved and the woman was brewing a pot of tea when we walked in.
“Hanelly, I heard you downstairs,” she greeted and wandered over before wrapping me in a hug. “I also heard you, Astarion, how are you here?”
“That’s a long story,” he assured and hesitated, unsure if he should hug her or not but Shadowheart didn’t let him debate and stepped forward, wrapping her arms around him.
“I’d love to hear it and it’s amazing to see you both. Tea?”
“I’d love some,” I said and took a seat at her table as she poured me a mug. “Now, you both must be wondering why Astarion is out in the sun.”
“I was curious, assumed that he secretly went back and completed that ritual.”
“Never, never in a million years, this is better than that, much better,” Astarion muttered and took a sip of the tea, glaring at Shadowheart as he went.
“He’s right. Gale had been looking for a cure for his affliction and while he didn’t find it, he found something to help with the sunlight part of it. A ring, the Sunwalker’s Gift that was given to Evalina Szarr, Cazador’s sister, about 360 years ago, right before she went missing. The person that told us about all this is a drow named Maleera, one of the seven spawn and she gifted Astarion a twenty-four hour Sunwalker elixir so he could be here, see it one last time in case it doesn’t work out.”
Saying that felt like having a weight lifted off my shoulders since it was what both Astarion and I had been thinking since we discovered the ring was somewhere in the Underdark. There was always that chance that Evelina didn’t get kidnapped with the ring or that this Kathrac person saw it and took it, destroyed it. Maybe one of the 7000 spawn that had fled down there had the same idea and were wandering around up here, free from the power of the sun. Neither of us had been strong enough to say it out loud and I caught the look on Astarion’s face when I finally mentioned the possibility of failure.
“Speaking of, Shadowheart, could I grab you for a second?”
“Of course.”
“Just a quick second,” he assured and stood, giving my forehead a kiss before moving to another room with Shadowheart trailing behind him.
“Wonder what that’s about,” Maisie said and smiled as I shrugged.
“Could be anything, he mentioned wanting to do something later, maybe it’s about that,” I said and Maisie shrugged, grinning as they walked back in, not looking all that suspicious.
“You’re predisposed later Maisie, don’t make any plans for late this afternoon,” Astarion said and grinned as Shadowheart chuckled, my eyes narrowing at the two of them.
“Is there something I should know?”
“No, just that you also have plans for later this afternoon,” he said and grinned as I eyed him.
“Okay then…I’m going to choose to not find that statement suspicious.”
“Good. Shall we move on?”
“Uh…Yeah…I guess I’ll see you later Shadowheart,” I said and she nodded, pulling me into another tight hug before I chugged the rest of my tea and followed Astarion outside.
“So…who’s next?”
“Might as well go and visit the wizard that made all of this possible,” Astarion suggested and wrapped an arm in mine as I gave him a nod.
“You’re planning something,” I muttered as we trekked our way past a group of people arguing with a guy selling some type of potion.
“Why do you say that?”
“I don’t know…the off to the side moment with Shadowheart and now you desperately want to visit the companion you hated for the entire time we were fighting back against the brain.”
“I just want to thank Gale for making all of this possible, is that so wrong?”
“I guess not, but I’m just curious as to what you’re planning.”
“Don’t make any plans for later this afternoon and you’ll find out,” Astarion said and grinned as we stepped into Sorcerer Sundries where Gale was standing behind the counter.
He glanced up from his book and smiled at the two of us, his eyes widening a bit when he noticed both myself and Astarion had walked in. “Oh! Did it work? Did you get the ring that quickly?”
“No, this was a gift from one of Cazador’s other spawn, we decided to take a day before looking for the ring,” Astarion explained and Gale's eyes widened.
“Wait…so that means…”
“Yes, your advice was good, we managed to find one in Cazador's palace,” I said and Gale grinned, his ego growing with every compliment.
“Oh that's great, I'm glad that I could help. I knew that you'd both find what you were looking for and hopefully the Underdark will prove useful as well. I may have some…”
Gale trailed off and I followed his dumbstruck look towards the front door where a Half-Elf had just wandered in, a crate of flowers and potions clutched in her arms. I raised a brow as she bypassed a couple people before squeezing in between Astarion and I and placing the crate on the counter. She was very pretty with pale skin and long dark brown hair that was braided, dressed in loose fitting trousers, a linen shirt covered in dirt and boots. Gale looked absolutely smitten and kept staring, his jaw still a bit lack until she finally cleared her throat and snapped him out of it.
“Uh…sorry…Good to see you Alina,” Gale greeted and she nodded in agreement.
“You as well, Gale, I have all the ingredients you asked for minus the carrow flowers since they're still blooming. But I did manage to make some extra lemon and herb tea as a gift to say sorry for missing it.”
“Oh that's perfect, you can come by when they're ready and I do love that tea.”
“I'm fully aware, most of my business comes from you ordering it,” she said and I nodded in understanding, finally getting what was being put down between the two of them.
It would only be more obvious if Gale's eyes turned into hearts as she unloaded the crate and placed jar after jar on the counter. He was smitten and was doing a very bad job of hiding the lovestruck look on his face. Gale had never been the best with social interactions in the time I'd known him and had even fumbled a few conversations we had early on. He kept claiming that the time we spent together was changing his entire outlook on life when I had barely known him a day. When I finally called Gale out he got all embarrassed and fumbled his words, something that he was doing with her as well.
“So…you grow flowers?” I observed and she turned to me.
“I mainly grow potion ingredients and since Gale took over for Sorcerer Sundries, I've never been better. He keeps me in business. Also…you must be Hanelly and Astarion, two of the people that stopped the brain along with Gale.”
“We did, yes.”
“Thank you again, it meant a lot, mainly because I live in Baldur's Gate and feared for my life.”
“Well…it was Gale who really stepped up,” I assured and chuckled when he blushed. “He got the final blow on the brain, a fireball that ended the fight and saved us. I didn't know how much longer we had before that. Gale is the reason you still have your shop for more than just his business.”
“Oh wow,” Alina exclaimed and smiled as Gale's face turned even redder. “Gale, you never mentioned that. You claimed that Hanelly and Astarion did all the heavy lifting.”
“What a crazy thing to say, a weak High-Elf like myself is nothing compared to a wizard with his talents,” Astarion added and Gale stared at him in mild shock from the compliment.
“I…well…I'm just very good at what I do…it's nothing really,” Gale muttered, fumbling over his words as his face turned so red it rivalled the colour of Karlach's skin.
“So modest, it's just one of his many incredible traits,” I added and Gale glared daggers at me.
“You know, Alina,” Astarion began and leaned closer to her, a devilish smirk on his face. “I have a little thing planned for late this afternoon and you should come. Bring Gale along with you.”
“What is it?”
“I can't say it out in the open but I can tell you that it'll be amazing and well worth your time.”
“I was going to reorganise the shop but I guess I can wait. What do you say, Gale?”
“Uh…yes…of course.”
“Great. What time?”
“Pick him up at 5, that should be more than enough time. It'll be on the balcony that overlooks the water underneath Sharesses Caress. Do you know it?”
“I do, I'll be there,” Alina said and Astarion grinned before giving her hand a kiss.
“Excellent. Don't forget Gale.”
“I could never,” she said and gave him a smile before grabbing her empty crate and heading out of the store.
Once Alina was gone, Gale took one look at us before he collapsed to the floor behind the desk. My eyes widened and I ran over to make sure he was okay, raising a brow at the lovestruck look on the guy's face.
“Uh…you good?” I asked and he nodded.
“Just perfect.”
“So…I'm assuming you like her,” I said and Gale sat up, letting out a sigh before giving me a nod.
“It's obvious isn't it?”
“No, you're very subtle, I couldn't tell,” Astraion joked and Gale sent him a glare. “Regardless, I like her, and she seems to really like you.”
“Really?”
“You only fawn over a wizard shooting fireballs at things when you really like them. Besides, she agreed to bring you with her, almost like a date,” Astarion added and Gale's cheeks flushed.
“Oh Gods…you're right. I hope she didn't see it as a date,” he muttered and stood, running a hand through his hair and suddenly looking more nervous than lovestruck.
“You'll be fine. Just be yourself,” I suggested and was quick to shove Astarion who looked eager to disagree with me.
“Really?”
“Why not? It can't hurt,” I said and he sighed with a nod.
“I guess you're right. I'll see you both later today, I need to prepare, make sure I look presentable.”
Gale grabbed a couple books off a shelf near the desk before bolting up the stairs and through the portal to his main office. I rolled my eyes, knowing that he was likely going to find some way to screw it up and hoped that Alina would find it endearing. Gale isn't the best at smooth talking anybody and had fumbled quite a few of our conversations but he was also a sweetheart. When I met Gale he was afflicted with an orb of pure magic that needed to feed on arcane energy in order to not kill him. Gale consumed quite a few boots before he got it fixed and was given an ultimatum by the Goddess he previously served. Gale was told to use his orb to kill the brain, thereby levelling an entire section of the city and also killing himself.
When it came time to meet the Absolute and end the cult for good he offered up his services, offered up his life to keep us safe. I refused and made sure that Gale knew that his life meant more to me than him proving himself to Mystra. Gale got the chance to live free, to be a teacher and fall in love with a woman like Alina and he did that by proving he was more than just a wizard who knew too much. If Alina could get past the mildly annoying exterior and ego, she would find a man eager to love again underneath and one that would do anything for the person willing enough to do the same for him.
I thought of another person who defied someone by proving they're better as Astarion and I went looking for Wyll. When I met Wyll Ravenguard, the Blade of Frontiers, he was a man on a mission to kill a devil that turned out to be Karlach. When Wyll refused, he was turned into one himself and through proving that he was better than the devil he had a pact with became more than his birthright. He became the Blade of Avernus and went from hating Karlach to being the main reason she was still alive. Astarion requested that we visit Wyll first and the man was usually down by the docks, keeping an eye on the shadier inhabitants of Baldur's Gate. He was sitting on a crate looking out at the water when we walked down a set of steps and turned when I cleared my throat.
“Hanelly!” Wyll exclaimed and ran over before wrapping me in a hug.
“Good to see you, Wyll,” I said and hugged him back since it had been a minute since I'd seen him.
After the brain was defeated, Karlach finally agreed to revisit Avernus but on one condition, that Wyll went with her. He agreed and together they both battled the remainder of the imps and devil's working for Zariel and found a cure for Karlach's condition. She and Wyll had just gotten back from a forge owned by Zariel herself and according to Karlach's letter had managed to stabilise the infernal engine she had in place of a heart. With all the freedom in the world, Karlach was now working as a barback and a bouncer at a tavern in the Lower City, not far from the docks and Wyll was still trying to figure out where he belonged. His dad offered him a job as the new Duke, a chance to change the city for the better but he hadn’t taken it and was still looking to do something for him.
“How have you been?” I asked and Wyll shrugged, catching sight of Astarion, his eyes widening.
“Wait…is that?”
“We went looking for a ring that could allow this to happen all the time, ran into a spawn and she gave him a potion. He also has something to ask I’m assuming.”
“I do yes,” Astarion said and smiled at me. “Wyll, would you like to join us at the balcony under Sharess’ Caress late this afternoon, around maybe 5:30. I can’t say why in front of her but I can say that it would mean a lot if you could join.”
“Of course, I’ll always take any excuse I can get to hang out with all of you. It’s been too long,” Wyll said and I nodded in agreement.
“It has.”
“Are we near the Hook Minder?” Astarion asked and Wyll nodded, pointing to a rickety looking building that was made partly out of a sunken ship and sitting precariously on a cliff that overlooked the water. “Perfect. I’ll be right back. Catch up.”
I raised a brow when he wandered over, kissed the top of my head and then bolted up the stairs before I could even think to wonder why he needed to visit a pub. Sure it was the pub that Karlach worked at but I was under the assumption that was our next stop and frowned in slight annoyance before taking a seat on a crate, Wyll following suit. Leaving me alone with Wyll was actually a bad thing and not because I didn’t trust him or didn’t like hanging out with him but he had asked me a very loaded question a couple months back and I had yet to give him an answer.
“So…I’m assuming you’re annoyed we’re alone,” Wyll observed and I chuckled.
“Heh..yep.”
“I still wish that you’d give me an answer, both myself and my father believe that you’re perfect for the job, why the hesitation?”
The job in question was training an entirely new group to take over the discarded Steel Watch and Flaming Fist that had both been abandoned when the cult began to take over Baldur’s Gate. The Steel Watch were giant automatons created by a real asshole named Gortash who was not only one of the main three who wanted to control the brain but also the man that sold Karlach to Zariel in the first place. His Steel Watch was corrupt from the start and we managed to destroy them before going after him, rendering his defence force useless and also losing a vital means of protection in the city. Sure keeping the brain from killing everyone placated people for quite a while but with the main threat gone they were starting to go back to their ways and that was bad, especially with little defences.
When Wyll approached me a couple months back with an idea that thanks to my background I would be the ideal Elf to train an entirely new guard that could keep this whole new Baldur’s Gate safe. I had denied the job offer initially, worrying that if I spent my days training a lot of soldiers there wouldn’t be any opportunity to be with Astarion. Having no job may sound like a bad idea but I at least got to spend every moment I could with him which made it worth it and made me so damn grateful that I hadn’t staked him in the heart all those months ago.
“It’s still a no,” I muttered and Wyll sighed. “I can’t leave him behind.”
“So…if this ring doesn’t work out…what are you going to do?”
“It’s going to work out,” I said and Wyll frowned. “Maleera, the spawn that gave him the potion, told me not to lose myself looking for it but we both know that I can’t let him go on without it, he deserves to return to the light. Cazador got what he deserved, the man is dead, but Astarion didn’t. He deserves a chance.”
There was a part of me that assumed Wyll would simply never understand, that it took a certain kind of love to want to throw everything on the line just for them to be happy. Seeing Astarion become his own person after so many years of not having the chance was my favourite part of our journey to stop the brain and the part that made it all worth it. When people you love get the chance to be happy, it makes you happy and I wiped at a tear, not even realising the thought of never getting that chance was making me emotional.
“I get it. I do,” Wyll assured and wrapped me in a side hug just as Astarion returned, Karlach trailing behind him.
I grinned broader than I had the entire day and jumped up, running over to Karlach and wrapping her in the biggest hug that I could possibly manage, grateful that I even could. With her fixed heart she was nearly cool to the touch, still fiery red but luckily not on fire and I had been itching to hug her for months. Karlach laughed and picked me up, spinning the two of us around and causing Astarion to duck to avoid a leg. She eventually dropped me back to the ground and smiled, looking more alive than she had in months and itching to do it again.
“Gods it’s good to see you!” Karlach exclaimed and I nodded in agreement before rummaging through the bag I was carrying for her gift.
“Same here and I have someone that’s been waiting to see you,” I said and pulled out a small stuffed bear that Karlach had kept with her for years and had sadly gotten a bit burnt.
“Oh my Gods! Clive!” she shouted and grabbed the bear, giving it a tight hug before admiring the stitching courtesy of Astarion and the strips of fabric he used to cover up the holes and scorch marks. “You fixed him, he looks great.”
“That was all Astarion, he’s quite the master with a sewing needle,” I said and bumped his shoulder as Karlach grinned and wandered over, wrapping him in a hug as he squeaked in protest.
“Hey now, not too tight,” Astarion said and groaned as Karlach laughed and put him down. “Gods…I’m not invincible you know.”
“Oh…you’re tougher than that,” she shot back and elbowed him in the ribs, Astarion letting out an oof and having to catch himself.
“Nope…I am not,” he choked out and I chuckled, rubbing a hand along his back to make sure he was alright. “Now…Karlach, you remember what I told you on the way here.”
“Of course, Hanelly, we have a whole day planned!” she exclaimed and I raised a brow. “We have some errands to run for a couple hours before meeting these guys at Sharess’ Caress.”
“What?”
Astarion pulled me aside as I frowned at him, now really curious as to what he was planning and what errands he could possibly want Karlach and I to run.
“Hang out with Karlach and I’ll meet you this afternoon,” he said and I eyed him.
“Why?”
“I can’t tell you,” he said and grinned as I frowned at him.
“You’re being sneakier than usual.”
“Trust me, if I ruin this, you’re gonna hate me.”
“I could never hate you,” I assured and took a step closer, wrapping my arms around his neck.
“Good so go with Karlach,” he said and I frowned before letting out a sigh and giving him a kiss.
“If this is some dumb joke I will punch you,” I shot back and pulled away as he chuckled.
“Trust me. It’s not,” he said and I eyed him before heading over to Karlach and following her up the steps and back into the Lower City, my mind swirling with possibilities and my stomach alight with nerves.
***
The errands that Astarion had us run were slowly starting to reveal what all he had planned and I became even more nervous as Karlach and I stood in the empty room at the Flophouse across from Sharess’ Caress he had rented. The only real errand was a trip to the Facemaker’s boutique, a clothing shop near the entrance to the upper city where Karlach said some sort of order was waiting for me. The order just so happened to be a white dress and Figaro, the shop’s owner who normally hated me, looked very pleased when I entered looking for it. He claimed that the garment was made for me and said that it was made to my exact specifications with some additions suggested by Astarion. How or when he got my ‘exact specifications’ I had no clue but the dress was absolutely gorgeous and I was admiring myself in a mirror, practically slack jawed.
The dress was white first and foremost which was already a good indication as to what was going on later but was also so much more than that on so many levels. The top was fitted in a way that wasn’t too revealing and a thin belt made entirely of silver hugged my waist and kept it in place. The part that really made me get emotional was the detailing, mainly the red detailing in the thin ruby coloured threads that created almost a waterfall of colour, starting from the waist and ending just above the bottom of the skirt. It made the dress feel a bit less formal but added so much to a collection of fabric that was previously so stark and perfect and I definitely wasn’t perfect. It had character and the red was a clear nod to the man that ordered it and I was very pleased that he seemed to be just as good with words as he was with fabric choices.
“Karlach…I need you to answer a question,” I said and she glanced up from staring lovingly at Clive. “Is this a wedding?”
“I can’t answer that,” she said and I frowned, knowing that that confirmed it, it had to be.
My stomach immediately dropped at the thought and everything suddenly felt more real, like all this was happening too fast even though I had been thinking about it for months. Sure I knew that he was it, he was the last time I was ever going to fall in love and when an elf says that it means a lot, we live long lives but I never knew how to say it. Astarion spent so long believing that love only existed in the darkest places, that the only love he was allowed to express was fake, and was a tool used to lure people back to Cazador. When he felt real love for a drow named Sebastian, when he tried to allow himself to embrace it, he was tossed into a cell and forced to spend a year clawing at darkness to make up for it. This was the first time he had allowed himself to feel something real, be allowed to feel it and the thought that Astarion was the one that put all of this together was only making my nerves worse.
“Karlach, you’re not helping,” I chided and she chuckled.
“Come on man, it’s supposed to be a happy day, we’re all together again,” she said and I nodded, knowing she was right.
“I know…It’s just…nerve wracking.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know, probably because you normally have more time to prepare.”
“If it is a wedding…what are you going to do? Would you say yes?”
“Of course,” I said and Karlach grinned.
“Well…Then there’s nothing to be nervous about, if you’re already willing to say yes and you don’t even know that’s a pretty good sign you’re ready for this.”
For the vast majority of our time together Karlach was always the muscle, mainly because she could punch anyone to death if given enough time but she’s also pretty damn well spoken. She was also right, I was ready and I let out a sigh before fixing my hair, making sure that my trademark twin braids looked perfect and let out a sigh before nodding that I was ready. It was basically time anyways and I followed Karlach out the door and down the steps, crossing the street and finding the group, including a spectral projection of Lae’zel, spread out on the balcony that overlooked the bay, arguably home to the best view in all of Wyrm’s Crossing.
Astarion was in the middle of them, laughing at something Shadowheart or Gale said as the sun that was just beginning to set caught his eyes in a way that made them shimmer. He turned and they widened when he saw me, grinning and stepping forward to assist me in walking down the handful of steps to the balcony.
“You suck you know,” I said and he frowned at me.
“Uh…Excuse me?”
“You do. You planned all of this, planned what is supposed to be the best day of my life and just assumed that keeping it a surprise was the best idea. How’d you even know I’d say yes?”
“Why did you assume that’s what this is?” he shot back and my face fell. “It could just be a gathering of old friends.”
“Uh…Well…is it?”
“It is,” he said and I was about to smack him but he stopped me. “A group of old friends that gathered for a wedding. So…Hanelly…Do you?”
I stared at Astarion for the longest moment, just to see if he was going to start laughing and say this whole thing was one big joke but he looked serious, looked so serious that it was making me almost emotional.
“Of course, I will always say yes to that,” I assured and he grinned before leading me over to the edge of the balcony.
“So…now you know why it was very important that Shadowheart was available since the main thing you need to get married is a cleric and she’s the best I know,” Astarion said and she eyed him. “Also the only one.”
“I was eager to join once he told me what he was planning,” she said and smiled at the two of us. “I also collected all the needed supplies, some harder to find than others.”
I raised a brow and Shadowheart stepped aside to reveal a small table full of various items but mainly two rings and a branch which may sound odd for a wedding but not one between two elves. A very old, very outdated Wood Elf tradition was to plant a tree whenever a child was born that was said to grow with them, signalling their life and their connection to the forest they called home. I had a tree somewhere in the forests surrounding Venia and always figured that when I ever got married I’d return, grab a branch and use it to bless the ceremony, a symbol of carrying your heritage with you as you go. When I decided never to return home I always assumed I had lost my shot at grabbing it but apparently Astarion had managed to find it.
“You found the tree,” I said, practically speechless and he nodded.
“You’d be shocked how far a locate object spell can get you.”
“Were the other two still there?” I asked, talking about the trees planted for my brother and father, my mother’s having died when she did.
“No, just this one. It was growing well though, and had red flowers on it according to Shadowheart,” he said and I smiled since the trees always tended to reflect what their person was getting up to and the flowers had to be a reference to him.
“I figured they’d be gone but mine is thriving and for good reason,” I said and he nodded in agreement before we got into position across from each other, Shadowheart standing behind us.
“Alrighty, I did have to research elf weddings so if I get anything wrong, I’m sorry,” she began and I chuckled. “Now we gather here on this balcony in the company of not only good friends, but family in order to bless and welcome the union between Astarion Ancunin and Hanelly Calista. As tradition in the laws of Wood Elves, a branch of Hanelly’s root tree has been cut to signal a new chapter, a new branch being added that when planted where this couple chooses to reside will signal a new life being built together. Hanelly…please place a hand on one end.” I did as told before Shadowheart told Astarion to do the same. “May the branches, the roots, the leaves and the flowers built from this one continue to grow and thrive for as long as the two of you do.”
The branch began to glow and I smiled before Shadowheart took it back and pulled out the rings, handing over the respective ones.
“I hope you like them, they were last minute,” Astarion whispered and I rolled my eyes.
“Oh…really…wonder who’s fault that is,” I shot back and he frowned at me.
“Astarion, please place this ring upon her finger and solidify a bond to last the test of time, through good times and bad, hope and heartache, life and death. Do you take Hanelly to be your lawfully wedded, in the eyes of Selune, wife?”
“I do,” he said and slipped the silver ring onto my finger, a small blood red stone shining up at me.
“Hanelly, please place this ring upon his finger and solidify a bond to last the test of time, through good times and bad, hope and heartache, life and death. Do you take Astarion to be your lawfully wedded, in the eyes of Selune, husband?”
“I do,” I said and slipped the simple silver band onto his finger, solidifying the bond forever.
“Well…By the power invested in me by Selune, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss.”
Astarion gently placed a hand on my cheek and leaned forward just as the sun began to set, basking the two of us in a brilliant orange glow as I closed my eyes and closed the gap. The others all began to clap as I stood there for a second, in mild shock that it was now official.
“Well then, I have a wife,” Astarion with a wide grin and I nodded in agreement.
“That you do.”
I kissed him again before we turned to the others who all looked very pleased, even Lae’zel who I was certain never liked me. I smiled and wandered over, not pulling her into a hug since she’d kill me and the astral form was preventing any real contact. Lae’zel left the group shortly after the brain was killed to get revenge on the gythyanki that still sided with their lying queen. It was likely Gale that told her about the event and I was actually quite shocked she was there since Lae’zel was never really a lovey dovey type of person.
“Shocked to see you here,” I muttered and she nodded.
“Gale sent a message about this ceremony and your plans to find the ring, I thought I’d come by and say congrats and good luck.”
“Thank you.”
“Also that it’s stupid,” she added and my smile faded. “The Underdark holds more dangers than what we saw in our small trip to it, dangers that would kill for a ring like that one. Sure I believe you're more than capable but if you die then I will be saying, ‘I told you so’ to your corpse.”
Lae’zel walked over to Wyll as I stood there a second, mind swirling with all the implications of that sentence and the fact that even though she was ultimately messing with me, she was also correct. But I couldn’t worry about the Underdark on a day like this, it was supposed to be happy and I was thrilled.
“So…Did you enjoy the surprise?” Astarion asked after handing me a glass of wine.
“I did, yes.”
“They say the wedding night is always the best part,” he said and smirked.
“I’ll be the judge of that,” I shot back and his smirk grew. “So…why here, why sunset?”
“You look the best at sunset and if this is my last one, I want it to be special,” he said and kissed me, deep before taking a sip.
I smiled at the gesture but it was hard to ignore the dread piling up at the bottom of my stomach and the fear that this was going to be his last sunset, that this was all we were ever gonna have in the sun if this failed. Sure it was incredible, I wouldn’t change that for the world and the ring shining in the last few rays was a symbol that he meant the world to me and I to him but it wasn’t enough. I don’t care if I’m being selfish, irrational but I wanted more, I wanted more sunsets, more walks along the water, more warming myself in the early morning rays, more chances to watch his eyes light up when they caught it at just the right angle. Tomorrow evening we were headed down into the Underdark with Maleera, tomorrow everything changed and it was either going to get a lot better or a lot worse.
“It won’t be your last,” I whispered as I pressed myself against him, swaying slightly to the music being played by a bard he hired.
“I hope not,” he muttered as I wrapped my arms tighter around his middle, locking my hands together and not planning on letting go anytime soon.
I had two options in that moment, either sit back and see what happens or fight my absolute hardest to guarantee this wasn’t the last sunset and as the night began to creep along the horizon, once again plunging Astarion back into darkness as he shimmered from the elixir wearing off, I made my choice. That I was either coming back from the Underdark with that ring on his finger or not coming back at all.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Vee already dating someone? Is he cheating on his girlfriend with Valain? /genq
[I had to look up genq to answer this cuz I didn't realize that meant genuine question LMAO]
BUT ANYWAYS- he is not!
It's hard to explain the nuance of notseanis [the elf species that makes up most of the population in my fantasy world, 'nis' for short] romance/dating societal rules, BUT I'll try and summarize!
Short version: People in Olmia aren't usually Monogamous! [only married to/in an active relationship with only one person at a time] Polyamory is very common, and nis have a loose relationship with romance and sex. The only thing they want you to do is 'produce at least 1 child in your life, even if you don't raise it.' Cheebi [Vee's partner] is supportive of him looking at other people, so long as they're good for him emotionally. Now, I can't make any statements on how she feels about Valain specifically, but you'll find out that stuff in the books. :)
Longer answer below the cut!
Longer answer: Olmia's societal rules are sort of like a fun-house-mirror version of my limited American [raised 'christian'] upbringing. But one of the things they differ the most on is the 'rules and expectations' around dating.
Many people in Olmia have multiple partners or random 'lovers'. Messing around [hooking up with random people] is seen as completely normal and is not considered 'cheating' if both people have consented to their relationship being open [which is the default expectation. Usually a couple will have conversations about being MONOGAMOUS and closed, instead of IRL where being Poly is the 'unusual' occurrence.]
However, 'traditional' folks in Olmia also have an unfair expectation that in order to 'earn' your right to be freely romantic or sexual with people, you need to reproduce with an itsu [one of the three sexes among nis, and the only one that can produce offspring]. Even if you just hook up with them and they agree to carry the child, you've 'done your job'. It comes with some pretty negative connotations and is pretty unfair and unbalanced, but that's how things are.
Because of this, it's common for people to start dating someone and have multiple other partners of various levels of romance/attachment. Nis highly value freedom [which is ironic considering some of their laws >>;;] and fulfilling their emotional nutrition needs with multiple partners. Because of this, the rate of failed relationships is actually super low compared to the real world! People aren't expected to 'settle and put up with each other'. If you commit to someone, it's usually expected that you've thought it over for at least a few years.
The only exception to this are 'high born' nis. These are high-class families that have much harsher expectations on them, and their whole goal is making as many heirs as possible to their families and businesses. However... high-born children are arranged into marriages where they are 'paired up' with their future partner in their mid teens, and expected to spend years bonding with them until they eventually are married, and then are expected to start creating heirs and raising them [or sending them off to be raised by nannies near the main home.] High Born families have really messed up rules about romantic relationships that I can't fully get into without spoiling some things about FYW.
But yeah! Cheebi would be fine with Vee having other partners! So long as she still knows he loves her, it doesn't bother her at all. She's had a few casual 'partners' here and there too!

I found this old prompt from r/fanfiction with my Legion OCs, Rikke, and Elenwen playing D&D. So here you go.
“I understand that playing Dungeons and Dragons together can be a useful co-operative team-building exercise,” began Legate Rikke.
Her girlfriend Emilin shrugged. “So the General said. I don’t notice him here.”
“Nonetheless,” Rikke brushed that remark aside. “Why is she in our group?”
“For our sins, my dear Legate. For our sins.”
They were interrupted by a sudden high-pitched scream from the living room.
“Scratch that,” Emilin corrected herself. “For Junius’ sins.
***
Legion Battlemage Junius Varo and Thalmor Ambassador Elenwen sat on opposite sides of the coffee table, as mandated by Legate Rikke. He insisted that he had not poured the entire bottle of Mountain Dew on his cousin's lap on purpose. No one believed him. Elenwen was threatening to send the drycleaning bill to the Legion.
“I just don’t understand why you’re here, Madame Ambassador,” said Rikke diplomatically. “You’re not part of the Legion. You don’t have anyone forcing you to play.”
“It’s my pleasure to be here,” said Elenwen through gritted teeth. “We co-operate in so many things, do we not?”
“Jarl Elisif turned down my request for a restraining order,” added Junius. “I”ll try again next week.”
“Could we just play?” begged Emilin.
“Yes, all right, let’s see your character sheets.” Rikke began with Emilin’s. “Halfling Rogue . . . this looks good. Okay, Madame Ambassador . . . why do you have three character sheets filled out here?”
Elenwen sniffed. “I should think it obvious that a High Elf Paladin of the Dominion would not travel on her own. She has two attendants: a High Elf Wizard and a High Elf Ranger.”
“Elenwen, you can’t have three characters,” Legate Rikke began.
“Let her,” Junius spoke up. “Here’s my character. He’s a Human God Emperor with the power to reshape the land with his breath.”
“Junius, you cannot role play fucking Talos.”

SHE'S HEEEERE
more under the cut because i have to Blab but i dont want canon characters' names in the tags
this is jatatyla, she's one of my oldest ocs in my oldest story, she's the most powerful magician of her age and a child soldier raised to be the biggest baddest attack dog in the Big Bad Guys' army. she talks to her magic and she can feel it communicate back. she's selfish and mean and has a totally understandable tendency to violence and she also loves pretty dresses, alcohol, and using her tendency to violence as a love language. she's flirty and fun and super Not Thriving. she's the in-world version of a faerie so she's got dragon wings. she's even trans
in-game jat is a high elf sorcerer who is, as of my first full day of gameplay, in a toxic situationship with lae'zel and shadowheart and astarion fucking hates her guts and would not talk to her in camp. i was planning on ditching him and replacing him with wyll but then the vampire thing came out and now i can't handle replacing him because it is simply Too in-character for jat to go "oh my god, i can have horny vampire blood-sucking Intricate Rituals with this asshole while my future girlfriends fight over who gets to fuck me first??? FINE W/ ME". she's insufferable. none of the options were at all chill enough for how she would actually react to some guy who doesn't like her asking/begging to drink her blood because she doesn't quite know how to separate her identity as a weapon from her own bodily autonomy so of course she would just go "i mean as long as it doesn't kill me??? sure bro". i want wyll in my party. why do i only get three companions, i mean i get why but also i want FOUR OF THEM. she's failed so many important dice rolls and succeeded at so many stupid ones but she made the one guy bow to lae'zel in the grove and i think that's probably the roll she would have cared most about winning.
i've had her and watched her grow for nearly 20 years at this point and i'm still shocked at how much i love her and how much fun it is to play this game thru her POV. i'm so glad i didn't just do some random new character for my first playthrough
#have i maybe burned some bridges because she's a hellion piece of shit with a 13-year-old's sense of humor? yes sure#but like. consider maybe that the other characters started it. sometimes. at least half the time.#anyway once more with feeling I LOVE HER SM. FUCK#i know it doesnt seem like it but lora is my 'i love him so much i will hold him close and never let people witness him' fav#while jat is my 'MAKE EVERYONE LOOK AT HER AND UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH I LOVE HER' fav#mythtakes

#please tell me about the older brothers PLEASE#im of course begging for horde zelda bc horde!!!!!!!!! blood elf!!!!! CRIMES#but also the idea of starcrossed lovers...#ok but like. you gotta give them happy ending or i WILL riot#is gan the chief of the horde? *gasp* can they be co-chiefs-- ( @ro-blaze )
Hello, I was summoned!
I got very excited so this got kinda long, a lot of random brother talk and AU details under the cut!
So the concept of Zelda having older brothers came from like a lot of Zelda AUs me and my girlfriend used to do. We had like...A Lot. And I love the brothers a lot. We don’t put them in every Zelda AU we make, but if they fit in we giddily include them because they’re fun. There’s a lot of AU’s where they all die, but in the WoW AU they’re fine! They’re all alive and fine in those ones. They also all come from three separate marriages the king had so I’ll split them up by wife, as I think that’s important.
Also fair warning, me and my girlfriend have a tendency to make a lot of AU’s that all like branch off of each other because we love to explore ‘what if’ scenario's. So, I apologize if it gets confusing asdfghj, there’s a lot of non concrete details.
Also a lot of the brothers are named after Zelda places or other Zelda kings, like Rhoam and Daltus, because we just thought those were fun names and felt like something a royal family who seemingly names all their princesses Zelda would do. There’s no relation to those kings and Zelda’s brothers.
First Wife
The oldest brother is Eldin
his mother is also usually the kings favorite but she died quite young and he never really got over her, as a result Eldin is usually his favorite
he takes his position as heir in stride despite how stressful it is, growing up to be a very fair and level headed sort of ruler
that is if he like ends up ruling because in some AU’s he dies which is a whole thing
Zelda and Eldin get along very well and he respects her opinions a great deal, even if she is the youngest of his siblings.
That said also he never got to spend as much time with Zelda as he liked when she was growing up, due to being much older and spending a lot of that time readying to be king one day.
with the WoW au’s specifically he’s usually High King of the Alliance due to the semi recent death of his father (though in some AU’s Zelda is High King of the Alliance, though I’m not sure if she has siblings in those ones) and torn between peace and the continued conflicts between Horde and Alliance as they are in a bit of a lull between, you know, the constant wars and what not
I’m going to refer to the death of the king in WoW AU’s as recent a lot, though honestly I can’t remember exactly when it takes place? I think it’s when Zelda was a child or her early teens so like, well within her living memory. But I’m not sure how recent or how old she was at the time.
also in WoW AU’s when he is High King, he is often recently married (within the past few years) and has his own son who is very little
Also in AU’s where he dies, he usually dies first and it’s also a whole thing because it’s before his father dies.
Second Wife
The kings second wife lived the longest and was the most stubborn. She often involved herself with politics, even if the king probably didn’t want her to be. Very smart woman, very sharp, very dangerous. I love her dearly. I still don’t think we ever settled on how she died
she also has the most kids out of the three wives, as she has three sons
The first two are the twins, Bayard and Daltus
Bayard and Daltus are very much opposites but spent most of their lives as best friends in most of the AU’s. Even as they get older and butt heads a lot there’s a lot of respect between the twins. That said, as they get older they start to disagree a lot more on the paths Hyrule should take to a point where they often do not get along like they used to.
Bayard is the most militaristic of the brothers. He is very much a soldier. He’s very good at tactics and all of that, a very action oriented person who doesn’t really care much about the finer details of politics and leading. He’s a soldier first and is popular amongst the soldiers because he tends to see himself as one of them and regards them as equals, often hanging out with them.
Daltus is very interested in diplomacy and academics. He’s the brother who questions things the most about the world around them and history. Usually he’s very interested in working out a better situation between the Gerudo and Hyrule where Gerudo is treated as equal, a root of conflict between him and Bayard. He, above anything else, wants peace and wants to do right. A lot of his studying is done on Gerudo and he’s gone on a lot of trips to Gerudo to talk to the people and leadership there.
In the WoW AU’s specifically Bayard and Daltus both advise Eldin and are on very different sides of the conflict. Like, Bayard would like to continue the faction wars as he feels the Alliance has not been given what they’re owed by the Horde. Where as Daltus thinks peace and continuing the armistice between the two is priority. He also believes that the Alliance owes the Horde plenty for crimes done to them.
Zelda and Daltus get along very well, I’d stray to say he’s one of the ones she’s closest to and the one who ideologically she tends to agree with most, especially in WoW AU’s where she is just princess and not High King herself.
In WoW AU’s specifically also Bayard loves his sister, but he does not trust her completely due to some Drama tm that happened with her mother (more on that later)
(Daltus is my favorite)
In AU’s where the brothers are no longer alive, Bayard and Daltus usually live the longest but they don’t do great without the other. They’re very sad about it. Also Daltus usually is put to death for treason? I think??
The twins have a younger brother also who we’re in the process of renaming. I think we settled on Byrim?? (He used to be two brothers but the characters weren’t super developed so with the WoW AU’s, we decided to combine both)
for sake of clarity I’m just going to call him Byrim. Subject to change however asdfghj
Byrim, being so far down the line of succession, is not at all interested in prince stuff or royal things. If anything he fears it. He is however, the romantic of the siblings and gets himself into a lot of situations due to his romantic liaisons.
Beyond being that though he’s also really interested in archeology. It’s his passion and he’s really into finding and researching artifacts. Usually he does this alone, but in WoW he’s very neutral in the conflict between Horde and Alliance and spends most of his time with the archeologists who are also neutral.
Byrim’s the most detached from the other siblings and castle life. He’s got other stuff he’s up to.
Also I don’t think we ever reworked how he dies, but when he was two guys in Zelda AU’s the romantic used to get killed because he was sleeping with one half of a marriage and that did not go over well when the other half found out. And the archeologist used to get really interested in Majora and just kinda...disappeared and no one knows where he went but are all sure he is not coming back.
Third Wife
this one is Zelda’s mom
in Zelda AU’s she’s usually quite sickly, which leads to her death shortly after Zelda’s birth. The king has a soft spot for her, but she does not compare to his first wife. She was very sweet though, and very musical.
in WoW AU’s however Zelda’s mom is a High Elf who is wedded to the king for political reasons. While I won’t speak for the kings intent, she often feels like a trophy and does not like this.
She uses her position close to the king to eventually kill him and flee back to the more recently formed Blood Elves, defecting into the Horde. And this, of course, causes a whole lot of problems.
It’s not public knowledge that she is the reason the king is dead. This is a tightly held secret even in the family, only the oldest of the three brothers being aware that their father did not just die but that he was you know, murdered.
And this is why Bayard loves Zelda, but does not entirely trust her. He worries that she might defect like her mother and leave them, something he does not want because he wants his sister where he can keep her safe and near.
Zelda has one full brother however. His name is Rhoam.
Rhoam is the meekest of the siblings.
Sometimes he’s quite sickly like his mother which is what leads to his eventual death.
He’s a musician and also has little interest in the crown and conflict around him. He would prefer it if things were peaceful and prosperous, but he does not really want to get involved. He’s very quiet also, very nervous about big events.
He is Zelda’s closest friend out of her siblings. Sharing a mother led them to have a particular bond, and in the WoW AU’s with them being the only half elves in the family this made them close. They also share a lot of interests, like music and reading. Also being the closest two in age, they spent a lot of their childhood together.
In WoW AU’s he is less magically gifted then Zelda, not really having a strong talent and connection to it and he doesn’t really have much interest in learning it further. I think it kind of scares him in the context of WoW AU’s, due to the addictive nature of magic in that universe if not handled properly.
Zelda is the youngest, always.
She’s also well liked by all her brothers, being their baby sister. She’s closest with Daltus and Rhoam She also butts heads with Bayard the most.
She’s very academic like Daltus and will study things with him and the two are known to have long conversations about cultures and history. In WoW AU’s, the two of them tend to discuss paths towards peace and reconciliation between the Horde and Alliance and both tend to argue for this path to Eldin.
More WoW AU Notes!!
We have like three main types of WoW AU’s. Alliance Zelda, Horde Zelda, and High King Zelda AU’s
Also in all AU’s Link is Zelda’s personal guard. He knows all her secrets and keeps them very well. Also he’s usually just a guy?? He might be like half elf also honestly I haven’t really thought about it he just has very big ‘he’s just...some guy’ energy.
In Alliance Zelda AU’s, they typically take place in a period of tense peace between factions. So like, most lulls in the faction wars in WoW. Eldin is still newer to the throne and everything, and also has developments in his personal life (like the recentish birth of his own son, who I think is usually a toddler at time of the AU’s?)
Similarly, Gan is also new to the title of Warchief. His mother had been Warchief before him and passed the title down, and while he’s respected amongst the Horde he’s still like...very new to the job. (Also beyond the like, representatives of all the different races in the Horde, he has a council of close friends and advisers who I love dearly)
Also unimportant but Gan’s dad in the WoW AUs was part of a like traveling group of actors and story tellers before settling down with his mother and I love his father a lot ok he doesn’t have a name this is all I know about him but he’s important to me.
Both are dealing with the very complicated situation of peace between the factions after everything that’s gone on between them and the differing demands of all the people in their respective factions
on the Alliance side, however, Daltus and Zelda manage to convince Eldin to allow them to go visit the Horde side and begin discussions with the Horde leadership. Zelda was not going to be allowed to go at first but Eldin agrees to allow her to, well guarded of course.
And this begins the relationship between Zelda and Gan, who very quickly begin to get a long and foster a secret friendship that turns into a secret romance, with a lot of Zelda just sort of teleporting herself to his location under the guise of language tutoring.
I don’t think we ever settled on an ending?? But this AU to me never really felt like it’d end tragically, also like...a marriage between factions could be nice!! (Also I don’t know what happened to Zelda’s mom here or the fall out from it)
Also Link is long suffering and exhausted having to cover for their secret romance. You ever try to cover up a secret romance when one of them is like over 10 feet tall??
Horde Zelda AU’s work under the idea that after killing the king, Zelda’s mother does not escape alone but takes both of her children with her.
She receives a bit of a hero’s welcome given the fact she just killed the High King and got away with it, so Zelda and Rhoam grow up pretty easy though Rhoam is no more talented at magic then he usually is and still very nervous.
Zelda as she ages begins making a very strong impression amongst the Blood Elves, largely in politics and academia. Which is what eventually gets the attention of fairly new Warchief Gan. He takes her on as an adviser and their relationship moves from there until she’s worked her way into essentially being his most trusted second in command. And they are quite the dangerous duo and are living their best lives honestly.
There’s a lot of potential drama to be had in this AU, especially since I’m assuming she still has her brothers and Eldin is now king and everything but honestly I just got really focused on Zelgan living their delightful lives together in Orgrimmar that I had not thought through the rest yet asdfghjk
High King Zelda AU’s run under the assumption that she’s become Queen recently and Gan still recently became Warchief and Zelda uses this shift in power to attempt peace talks with Ganondorf.
She’s a very bold High King and I love that. A lot of ‘will show up in the middle of your war camp with only herself and her personal guard who is just some guy’ vibes. Which is what she does, just turn up where he is with literally just Link to discuss terms.
The two are quite intrigued by each other right away, something that is probably worrisome to Gan’s council (and definitely worrisome to Zelda’s advisers)
This one also does not have an ending, however there is a variant following the classic Zelgan tale of a political marriage that actually goes pretty well because they get along pretty good actually.
We also have this like, fourth variant of WoW AU which is just very silly and not meant to be thought about too hard. But the premise of those ones is that WoW and Zelda take place on the same planet, just opposite sides of it. As a result, Gerudo and Hyrule have relationships with the Horde and Alliance on the other side of the planet. This AU does not have a lot of details and mostly exists because ‘wouldn’t it be funny if this happened?’, but I like it I think it’s silly.
#fab talks#idk if i have tags for this type of thing asdfghj#ship: some divine prank#fab talks headcanons#my fic#those are close enough until i figure something else out asdfghj#thank you for indulging me#i really love the brothers they're important to me sdfghjk

some shit that went down at school today
my friend (@salidqueen) and I watched Elf in my gov + cit class today and I will never, ever get over the second-hand embarrassment of that movie
I got to get to know @d0nut-gh0st a little more and we talked about fanfiction and cookie run and I got to impart my knowledge on him (the average height of American males in the 1990s was 5'10". also the fact that Mayor Lionheart was read his Miranda rights implies the fact that not only does zootopia have a constitution to draw rights from, it would also have to have a constitutional federal republic-like government in order to have a supreme court so that somewhere along the line, the supreme court death with the Miranda v Arizona case that led to the installation of your rights being read aloud when your arrested. The idea of this government also means that zootopia had founding fathers. Zootopia Hamilton.)
I was writing and found out that runza's are a really popular food in Nebraska, so I decided to put a restrauant that serves runzas a few blocks away from Scottsbluff High only to look it up and.. guess what. There's literally a Runza's Restraurant 5 minutes away from SHS by car. That was insane. Also there's a water tower right across the high school which may or may not be incorporated into future fics...
Today at lunch, the lunch ladies said that if someone had a sticker on the bottom of their tray, they'd get a prize and I had a sticker, so I got a little sticker Polar Express ticket, a jingle bell with a card that says "believe" and a pack of junior minds. It was one of the weirdest interactions I've had in a while.
The drama teacher was talking about how he had abbreviated TikTok and had accidentally said something innapropriate. Cue five kids running up to him from the back (the classroom is the size of two classrooms, separated by a folding wall and an office) into the front to ask him what he said. He refused to tell up, so I told salidqueen that he had probably said 'tits' or something, then I pointed to their tits and said "tik, tok" and they laughed really hard
"are you reading a fanfic or..?" "Only a fanfic would have Stephen railed as hard as he just was." "...That's going in the quotebook."
My friend (not on Tumblr, we'll call them Mars) is a therian and today they were wearing their usual collar and fox ears and like a pull chain collar that looked like a necklace and mars showed it to me and I grabbed the end, wrapped it around my wrist, went "kinky" and literally used the collar to pull them into a kiss, it was amazing. and then they were blushing really hard and had to facetime their girlfriend (they're both poly) to tell her what just happened. It was absolutely amazing, and idk what happened but I really liked the collar on Mars so I either discovered a new kink or something else, I have no idea
We played poker in AP Psychology
I got overwhelmed playing poker because I don't know how to play and it was too fast-paced for me to get the hang of it, so I played solitaire (with the second deck of poker cards) while watching my two classmates playing poker
A third classmate joined the game halfway through and in 20 minutes, completely demolished the two other guys playing. it was probably the most entertaining 80 minutes of the day
As I was walking out of class, one of the teachers that we'll call Mr. R was throwing little bags of candy over the edge of the bridge (yeah my school has a bridge that connects the second floor with the staircase literally across the cafeteria and commons) to students below. I told him I wanted one, so he turned and threw one at me. I didn't actually catch it, but I picked it up, and when I looked down, salidqueen and giving me an L so I flipped them off from the second floor, literally in front of like three teachers and SHE FLIPPED ME OFF TOO. and NO ONE CARED

Reading+(Watching)+Listening Log 2024.08 - August
Previous: Reading (+Watching+Listening) Log 2024.06 - June
——————————————————————————
Reading languages: German, English, French, Japanese, not listing which was what. (There’s also been some feeble attempts at Chinese, but that was more on drama and music.)
Titles are as I’ve read them either first or most and thus remember it for that title mostly
Not going to bother putting in the original titles of translated reads unless there is something worthy of note to it
Cursive titles have been completed
If it says a volume number, it may mean it has been finished or is still in progress
Some notes’ content may be subject to repetition here and there, as I also copied some older notes from casual conversations over and didn’t go through any rounds of cutting things down.

AUGUST
I bought myself an application to hold my phone while lying in bed. That's gotta not only solve my neck and back getting into bad posture issues with using it in bed, but actually be even better for it, as long as don't use a cushion. Once I find a proper page turner, I could just read there. The cold season is coming after all!
... Is what I thought, turns out there is no page turner for the simple function of scrolling down. They'd always scroll several screens worth of content down in a big swoosh. Why. What good is this down botton even for? (Aside of decreasing volume in a media app.) Anyway, at least left and right work, so can read some manga or JNC in the app.
Which still fed me up after a while, because no offline reading, so now I installed an auto scrolling app for scrolling. Would vastly prefer a remote, but oh well. It's useful for reading in a train where a remote is not very handy to fiddle around. My thumb is also thanking for the lack of strain.
The main learning I took away: All remotes with a camera button are complete crap on all buttons for this purpose. For those not even left and right work.
And the other ones so far have rather loud buttons…

Notes:
Fake Saint of the Year: You Wanted the Perfect Saint? Too Bad! v1-4: It was in the catch-up and a total last minute read I even considered dropping at the beginning - really the MC makes every effort to be a questionable creep. And almost any other character unfortunately is a bit bland. (A few get more in the epilogue chapters.) Which just made the MC stand out even more. By v2 I half suspected if it was just half an act, due to the plot twist of him being dead sick before being isekaid, but by the end him being like this became actually plot relevant. That was quite a nice surprise. The overall world structure and how it offered some reverse isekai alongside the normal isekai was also refreshing. (And on top of that there's even alternate universes.) So I'm glad enough to have finished it to get the payoff of sitting though the beginning, but that bit by itself still remains more of a turn-off than not.
A Livid Lady's Guide to Getting Even: How I Crushed My Homeland with My Mighty Grimoires (Light Novel) v2: Volume 1 was about as anti-fluff as it could possibly be, but volume 2 has scaled things down in terms of its cruelty factor. MC, while still very much have the upper hand by plot, is now also not the overly OP Mary Sue. Probably mainly because the people in the empire appear to have some wits themselves, unlike the fellows of her home country.
A Surprisingly Happy Engagement for the Slime Duke and the Fallen Noble Lady v1: Have the generic villainess story shafted to the sidelines, this one focuses on the sister of one without having to be a spin-off to some main series. In a way it's a bit of cinderella plot x shy nerd standing up x MC with wits, good naturedness and effort spending hard worker mentality. Nothing really there that makes it special per se (slimes by now are also a dime and a dozen), but cooks the ingredients up in a decently enough dish. Surprisingly, the cheese factor wasn't even that hugely focused on.
Accidentally in Love: The Witch, the Knight, and the Love Potion Slipup v1-2: Right, another one of those that just cook your standard dish with standard ingredients……… It makes for a literal light novel, because, well, it's perfectly a light read. Full of soft cheese.
I Met You After the End of the World v3: Just when I got a bit ??? about the supernatural elements, it struck me maybe that was what the narrative resorted to, because it may be a little bit hard to spin a narrative with just two characters alone to force up some circumstantial plot. And now suddenly there's a parallel narrative. One continuing from where it left off last time (still with the supernatural elements) and another some years into the future introducing a bunch of new characters. Daisuke suddenly is gone, but as they say, unless there's been a corpse, don't assume he's dead? But more than anything, it proves that it can very well spin a plot without said supernatural elements. The mystery box is working rather well as to what happened to Daisuke or what strange occurrence that looks-like-a-ritual-sacrifice-site may be about.
The Magic in this Other World is Too Far Behind! (Light Novel) v1: Read the manga before on JNC Catchup and while the manga entirely sucks at having a good flow between scenes, the world and setting wasn't too uninteresting. But the novel is a bit… too rants-y. MC is just way too much of a bundle of impatience and forced expectations based on his worldview, and that makes him rather obnoxious. And while the manga is kinda too jumpy, the LN definitely is a bit slow. Maybe a little too slow for my taste. Will continue, but not in a hurry.
An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride ch55-57(v11 finish): FINALLY CHASTILLE HAS SOME BADASS MOMENT AGAIN.
Domestic na Kanojo v17: I forgot to take notes immediately after writing and now I can't remember zilch about the volume. I suspect, there was loads of whatever cheese.
Loop 7-kaime no Akuyaku Reijou wa, Moto Tekikoku de Jiyuu Kimama na Hanayome Seikatsu wo Mankitsusuru ch34: Rishe making faces.
Also that harido is just so very pretty, gimme, too----
Run Away with Me, Girl v1-2: Original thoughts of when I had just finished it: I think it kinda lost me at the end. How so? In a "flows over my head and just goes puff"-way somehow? I dunno, i doesn't seem bad, just euh, kinda after the asshole gets ditched and the family discussion bit, it kinda lost it's string. Maybe the photoshooting is just also too cheese? dunno And the epilogue with that daughter was very much I have now read it almost twice, but it's just not sinking in really
Sonna Kazoku nara Sutechaeba? ch76-77: Some chapters expired yet again in between. Darn it, damn me. But ok, after the thing with the very very questionable classmate raising a ruckus we move on to… puberty! And some cheese. And it's getting back on track with the new teacher's mystery endeavor.
Stuck in a Time Loop: When All Else Fails, Be a Villainess (Manga) V1: This one raised a big question: If the MC is SO massively OP, how come she never took a stand for herself, but then just suddenly is able to do so and with such a superior aloof attitude, too. You'd think there ought to be some development or rehearsal to go from meek damsel to this rather smooth going with the badassery. Not sure where this is going, but probably will read on a bit.
The 100th Time’s the Charm: She Was Executed 99 Times, So How Did She Unlock “Super Love” Mode?! (Manga) v1: Now this one is the entire opposite. MC died so many times but still maintained this balanced calm, almost carefree attitude. That's truly being badass. Although I have no idea what the title is referring to, even after reading v1.
The Prince's Keeper: The Cursed Prince is Too Fluffy to Resist! ch1-3.1: I object to the title. It's not too fluffy, it's too sparkly bishonen. Like so much glitter, stop it, the MC looks like she's going to go blind… The vibes are similar to Hi, I'm a Witch, and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion, with the MC just a little bit more wordly. At least she doesn't risk starving to death by accident.
Victoria's Electric Coffin v2-3: It wound up being about as generic/preditable as I expected it to be after v1. Closes on the same note it already exhibited across v1 as well. Nothing remarkable about it beyond that it does have a rather eyecatching cover.
Wistoria Wand and Sword (Manga) v1-3: Wistoria's long term goal premise composition is kinda real similiar to Kaiju 8, except the MC is more like an OP Version os Rakudai no Kishi's. Is what I thought after v1. But then: .... I take it back. It's purely teenage-y cheese motivated, Kaiju 8 didn't have that. I will say, is of now, half of v1, it is vastly more interesting than Danmachi. But.
It's.... almost as bad with the outfits after all....
Kijou no Eden ch32-33 - Ouf, that's been some ages that I last read it. But it was easy to get into again and I still quite like it. The subject matter is a bit heavy, but there is just this bold, but sense of optimism filled with kindness about it. How inspirational things can start from something as small as imaginative wishful thinking. I quite like the the title. Kijou means "theoretical, something not yet implemented", but it's also meaning "on the table". And MC's a writer, an abused child who wrote a novel about what family could mean. That's like this hypothesis, his eden, that sits on the table that he has yet to reach. Which he has a hard time to, but to his first biggest fangirl it was a life altering experience regardless and she wants to give some of the goodness it brought her back. That's a very endearing sort of positive feedback loop.
August's Music Listening: Same stuffs from last month continues, with the addition of the new tracks of Zhou Shen's Shenself album (there's more than is listed on youtube music, apple music etc.) 缝合 struck some chords melodically only to turn out to be somewhat depressive with an optimistic silver lining. The English refrain line of "I'm giving my all" is kinda haunting. 没关系 meanwhile goes the opposite way of doesn't matter what comes around, just "don't mind". 我的答案 is melodically a total motivation mood track…… that turned out to be a propaganda song for the Chinese Crimes/Laws department. That is, it's used like that, but the lyrics are maybe not really that heavily propaganda in the negative political connotation of one may think of first. From what I can glean after some extended use of the dictionary it appears to be more about the variety of diffrent departments and what calling those professions have (or should have). Mirage was kind of an instant hit melodically and its lyrics sounds very cyberpunk-existential, now I wouldn't have minded to watch a SciFi series with such a mood. Clearly someone else had the same idea, as there is a fanmade movie MV for it cutting scenes from the movies Wandering Earth I, II and the trailer from III together in a quite well put together clip for it. And guess what, Zhou Shen actually did the theme song of the second movie. 人是_ is just the kind of bombastic fireworks epic sort of song suiting the bigger than one life-movie and so it also wandered into the playlist. Other than that Shenself album ran a lot when I was sitting onto (classified) and especially I was at it when I discovered 缝合, 没关系, so they together with tracks 3-6 of it kinda have half become my theme songs for that series.

Storytime
I have been playing in the same home campaign of D&D for over three years now. In game time, about seven months have passed. My character is a warlock who is half-elf/tiefling. Her patron is a exiled Archfey Prince who is also part fiend and elemental because reasons. I think primarily my DM wanted him to be able to do more than one kind of pact. We're both very fire themed. Iblis was also Terrapin's parent's patron.
When Terrapin was seven years old, her home was raided by the oppressive theocracy ruling the land they lived in. Her three parents were arrested for being (1) An unregistered Wizard, (2) A warlock, and (3) A warlock AND a Tiefling. The Clergy are very anti-any-magic-that-isn't-divine because of a clash between the Gods 150 years ago that caused a lot of problems. And they're also racist against Tieflings and other races because of same clash.
Terrapin avoided capture, and grew up as an urchin on the streets of the capital city, the main thing that really kept her alive was that Iblis found her and made a pact with her so that she would have a spark of his magic to survive. We started the campaign 15 years later when Terrapin joined an adventuerer's guild and met her now-girlfriend Astra, cleric to a god no one had heard of. Terrapin has pretty much avoided everything divine and god-adjacent up to this point because she was a tiefling warlock who needed to not get captured by the Clergy so that at some point she could rescue her parents.
These are the things we have learned since:
The Clergy have no Divine Backing on their theocracy. The Good Gods who survived the Clash that the theocracy are based around are unable to be reached due to a barrier between the mortal plane and the celestial plane. No one knows this!
The woman who helped Terrapin file her horns down and generally survive unnoticed in her childhood was a priestess of the Moon Goddess Sehanine.
This same woman ASCENDED into Godhood in front of our party's eyes. She's Istus, Goddess of Fate.
This makes her one of 3 good gods who are on the Material Plane- Istus, Lathander (the sun god no one had heard of who had accidentally wished himself into being so when as a mortal bard he saw the sun go out during the clash), and Sehanine.
Iblis is the Prince of the Fall Court and is in exile. The Fall Court is the Court of Respite and Peace.
Iblis and Sehanine are lovers. This threw Terrapin for a loop.
We're already knew that Ander (our party rogue) was Istus's Champion and that Astra (Lathander's greatgreatgreat Granddaughter and cleric) was Lathander's. Terrapin was just a Warlock!
Wrong. Sehanine has selected Terrapin to be her Champion. Why?
Because the divine barrier is made up of the chains of Tharizdun and the Gods need Champions to break it.
Terrapin has...mixed feelings about this. She has learned a lot to go against her anti-divine bias! But so much has been going on that she hasn't been able to properly process any of it. When Sehanine first showed up like, 'Hey, I like you. We're going to chat later." Terrapin was kinda freaked out by it. And now, finding out from Sehanine's High Priestess that she's a Champion canidate and will need her powers divinely sourced to do the things she needs to do to save her last imprisoned parent and help her girlfriend with her trial? That's terrifying.
So, we had a very Terrapin focused session last night for her to process all of that. First she talked with her party, still felt very mixed up. Then she talked to the High Priestess, who helped a little by being like, 'Sehanine chose you because of who you are and what you've been through and for your doubt and skepticism, not in spite of it.'
Then she talked to Iblis, who is basically a third dad to her. She was reassured that this wouldn't break their connection. And this is what he told her that helped her choose to undergo the trial. In a dreamscape reflecting the Autumn Court, the Court of Respite, Iblis gestured around and said, "The part of me that reflects the pact you have is the part that resonates with you, and this is what resonates with you. Your mother wanted power to create so she got the jinni. Your father wanted the power to forge his own destiny so he got my sword. What you want is the power to make the world around you safe." I almost cried.
The next morning she accepted, and we proceeded to the trial. Terrapin was told to stand in a pool from moonrise to moonset. And when the moon reached it's crest, she was plunged into the dreamscape. Into the nightmare of her best friend Ander, who shares a recently afflicted curse of arachnophobia with Terrapin (we saw a horrifying visage of Lloth, it's a whole thing). And in our now shared nightmare, we were being chased by a horde of spiders.
Ander's boyfriend Kel, the Archfey Prince of Spring the Court of Dreams, showed up and realized he couldn't help because a trial of Sehanine's, the Goddess of Dreams, superseded him. We were frightened, and I was the only one who could do something about it as we came to a dead end.
So Terrapin reached out for her power of respite, for her connection with Iblis and cast her feature Feyfire Incarnate which covers her with fire and ends one fear effect as a free action. She hugged Ander close and spent the whole minute that she could sustain the form ending his fear effect while herself being covered in spiders (really hoped her spider form would do something about that but dreams be dreams) And broke the curse that had been put on Ander and ended the nightmare. He found himself in a good dream surrounded by his loved ones.
And Terrapin found herself in front of a glowing castle- without feyfire incarnate. Without one of the powers Iblis gave her!
Again, I almost cried. Terrapin had been warned that she would loose something, but AGH.
The castle was beautiful, there was a tear from a statue of Sehanine that solidified. I had to solve a puzzle in order to break the tear open. And my wonderful DM, I love him so much, ended the session on Terrapin drinking the tear.
If you stuck around this long, thank you for coming on this journey with me. Sorry about the cliffhanger, but it's not my fault. And feel free to ask questions, I mostly wrote this out to solidify it in my memory.

I would argue that Lae'zel is tiny as well. Three ounces of whoop-ass vibes. Shadowheart is pretty average height. Minthara is tall for a drow (5'1!) and then gets into camp and ends up the shortest of everyone bar Lae'zel (and Boo). Jaheira was average height but has shrunk a bit and is now between Minthara and Shadowheart.
Astarion is a full inch taller than Gale and will not let him forget it. He's on the tallish side for a high elf, Cazador just happens to be on the freakishly tall side. Gale is perfectly average height for a human. Wyll I can see being on the shorter side.
All correct on the taller end. Once Karlach's engine gets fixed, Halsin literally picks her up and it delights her for days.
For my first Tav, I played a fluffy druid drow who romanced Karlach who was about 4'8". They needed a stepladder to kiss their tol girlfriend. My transmasc half-elf Durge was 5'3" and vaguely self-conscious next to Astarion, and then Halsin got added to the picture and he just...
(It's fine, the lack of oxygen helps with the Urge 👍)

might be planning a little art thing and need to pick how tall everyone is…
From tallest to shortest, I think we have…

Y/N MALFOY
Thursday, 1st of September 1977
The familiar sound of train whistles and people bustling around filled my ears. Students hurried across Platform 9 and ¾, some of whom I'd met and seen previously at school, as well as a few first years that I'd never seen before, their eyes wide and trunks ready to go. I remembered when I was like that – eleven years old and ready to learn magic.
I stood silently beside my brother, Lucius, and his girlfriend, Narcissa. Both of them stared across the platform boredly, showing no emotion. I was pretty sure my brother was going to propose to Narcissa soon. She was nice enough, but... this was an arranged marriage. At least they looked happy.
"Ah, there are the Blacks," Lucius said, spying a group of three people across the station. "Come along."
I followed after my brother and his girlfriend across the busy platform. A few people parted to let us through, and I suppressed the urge to roll my eyes. We stopped in front of the Black family and greeted each other.
"Y/n," Regulus acknowledged stiffly.
"Regulus," I said with a nod.
I looked at Regulus's parents. Orion Black wore a smart set of midnight-blue robes, each button polished to perfection, no doubt shined by their house elf, Kreacher. Regulus's mother, Walburga, was wearing a modest set of black robes, her hair up in a tight bun, no stray strands. She was looking over at someone in disdain, and after a quick glance, I saw Sirius Black standing with his Gryffindor friends. My stomach coiled. Sirius had left the Blacks behind about a year ago, cutting ties with his family and the rest of the purebloods.
"Well, you'd best be getting on the train," Lucius said.
I nodded quickly.
"Goodbye, Lucius," I said.
Lucius smiled at me, and that's all I got. Not a hug - affection was never shown in public in the Malfoy family. Not that my brother and I were that close anyway. I glanced at Regulus and the two of us walked together to the train in silence. We found an empty compartment, the seats as cushiony as always, and put our trunks away before sitting opposite each other, still in silence. The train began to move, and it was only once the station was out of sight that I tackled Regulus into a hug. Regulus laughed and hugged me back tightly.
"I missed you, Reg," I said, pulling back to look at my best friend.
Regulus laughed.
"'Course you did."
I smacked him lightly and he laughed again.
Regulus and I had been friends from a very young age. Our families were close, and we basically grew up together. We'd stopped hanging out at home, though, because once we'd turned fourteen, our parents had begun hassling us to agree to an arranged marriage together. I loved Regulus, but just not like that, and I knew he felt the same about me.
"How was your summer?" I asked, sitting down beside him now.
Regulus shrugged, stretching his arms.
"Not as bad as it could have been," he admitted. "You?"
"Same," I sighed.
I hated going home in the summer. My parents and my brother had such high expectations of me, and I hated the way they spoke about Muggleborns and 'blood-traitors'. I could only pretend to agree for so long.
I had been raised to believe that I was better than everyone else because I came from a pureblood family. While it was true that my family had a lot of influence, I honestly didn't believe that my blood-status made me better than anyone else. It had taken me a few years at Hogwarts to realise it, and I was disappointed in myself that I hadn't figured it out sooner. Regulus shared my views, but we didn't dare talk about it with our parents. They'd call us disgraces, blood-traitors, and then they'd kick us out and disown us.
Regulus and I continued to catch up, talking about pretty much everything. The trolley lady came by, and we bought a few lollies to share between us. It was by complete chance that I glanced out of the compartment door as someone walked by, and my heart skipped a beat.
Remus Lupin passed by the compartment door, wearing an oversized sweater and jeans, his brown curls framing his impeccably gorgeous face. He didn't look into the compartments as he passed, and I sighed as I watched him go.
"Still in love with him?"
I was broken out of my thoughts by Regulus's voice, and I shook my head as my cheeks heated up.
"I'm not - I'm not in love with him," I said quickly. "I just... fancy him a little bit, is all."
Regulus rolled his eyes at me and chewed on his liquorice wand.
"Sure," he said, dragging the word out. "You know, I read somewhere that if you've had a crush on someone for more than five months, it means you love them? And you've had a crush on him for, what, five... years?"
"It's only been three years," I mumbled, crossing my arms.
Regulus sat up triumphantly and pointed a finger at me. "Ha! That's more than five months!"
"I am not in love," I grumbled. "I've only spoken to him four times."
It was true. I met him when I was in second year, and he was in third. We'd literally bumped into each other, and I'd dropped all of the books I'd been carrying. He'd helped me pick them up, and as soon as I'd seen his hazel-brown eyes, I knew I'd be thinking about them for weeks.
But that didn't matter. Remus Lupin didn't hang out with Slytherins, and I, Y/n Malfoy, did not hang out with Gryffindors. So what if I fancied him? Nothing would ever come of it.
The train shook and a loud boom sounded, and Regulus and I looked at each other in slight panic. There were a few shouts, and then laughter. I heard someone distantly yell something that sounded suspiciously like 'Potter!'
"What's the bet that was your brother and his friends?" I said, relaxing slightly.
Regulus rolled his eyes and took another bite of his liquorice wand. I was aware he'd taken the leaving of his brother pretty badly. I knew they'd been close, but Regulus had always tried to impress his parents, while Sirius didn't care about them. I decided to change the topic in an attempt to spare my friend some heartache.
As the sun began to sink closer to the horizon, Regulus and I changed into our school robes. Regulus put his Prefect badge on (he'd decided to leave the Prefect duties to the fifth and seventh years during the train trip), and the green and silver flashed, standing out on the black of his robes.
The train began to slow, and then stopped, and Regulus and I exited the transport, bumping into other students getting off the train. I heard the familiar voice of the groundskeeper, Hagrid, calling out to first years. Regulus and I headed towards the horseless carriages that would bring us to the castle and we ended up sitting with a few Ravenclaws, but none of us spoke.
I looked down at my hands. I knew about the rumours that were whispered about me and Regulus. Blood-status-loving purebloods. I supposed my brother had helped keep that circulating, based on how much he bullied Muggleborns. Regulus and I had never bothered to prove the rumours false, in fear of the wrath our families would bring.
Soon enough, we'd entered the castle we called home, and taken seats at the Slytherin table with Pandora Lestrange, Evan Rosier, and Barty Crouch Jr. They were the closest to what I'd call friends, but I didn't hang out with them often. I'd never spoken to them about their views of blood status and Muggleborns, but the fact that they never spoke about it and rarely bullied Muggleborns had led me to believe that our views may be similar, so I didn't mind socialising with them.
"Hey, how was summer? Didn't see you on the train," Evan said.
"It was fine," Regulus replied with a shrug. "Not much interesting happened. You?"
Evan recounted his summer in great detail, with Barty making a few sarcastic comments every now and then that made me laugh.
I saw Remus and his friends at the Gryffindor table, but I quickly looked away. There was no point in hopelessly pining over him, especially since I was starting my first year of N.E.W.T classes. The first years filed in after Professor McGonagall, and the Sorting Hat sang a song. I fiddled with my fork instead of listening, and eventually the sorting began. As always, there was a pretty even split of kids, and quite a few of them joined the Slytherin table.
Once the sorting had finished, Dumbledore stood up at the High table.
"Welcome," he said. "Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Thank you!"
He sat back down, and a variety of different foods appeared on the table – delicious smelling roast chicken, golden potatoes, and green beans swimming in butter just to name a few. I filled my plate and ate, listening to Reg and the others talk. I noticed a new teacher sitting up at the teachers' table. She had brown hair, and was talking to Professor McGonagall like she knew her well. Soon enough people had eaten their fill, and the food and dishes disappeared, and Dumbledore stood up to say a few words.
"Just a few things. First years should note that the forest on the grounds is forbidden to all pupils. And a few of our older students would do well to remember that as well." Dumbledore's eyes flashed in the direction of the Marauders (a nickname they'd given themselves a few years ago and had stuck), and they all grinned at each other. "I have also been asked by Mr. Filch, the caretaker, to remind you all that no magic should be used between classes in the corridors. Quidditch trials will be held in the second week of the term. Anyone interested in playing for their house teams should contact Madam Hooch. Also, the Yule Ball will be held this year for fifth year through to seventh year students."
A loud murmur went through the students of Hogwarts at the prospect of the Yule Ball. I heard a few girls talking about what to wear already.
"And I would like to introduce our new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher," Dumbledore said, gesturing to the new teacher, "Professor Emily Laufeyson."
There was applause and whispers as the witch stood up and nodded her head. I could have sworn she looked directly at me and smiled mischievously, before she cast her gaze to the Gryffindor table.
"Apparently she's married to some really powerful wizard," a second-year whispered across the table. "Loki Laufeyson or something. I think he's Nordic."
"And how do you know that?" a fourth-year asked.
Dumbledore hushed the crowd, before sending us all to bed. Regulus took his duties seriously this time and helped the first-year Slytherins to the dorms. I trailed after them, letting Regulus do his duty. No one spoke to me – apparently people were too afraid to – but I preferred it that way.
We reached the dorms and I said goodbye to Regulus before heading to the girls' dorms. The light was green, and we had our own separate rooms. Apparently the other houses didn't have separate rooms, but most Slytherin families were rich, so they probably paid someone to have the rooms built separately. Or maybe Salazar Slytherin just wanted his students to live in luxury.
I opened the door that had been mine since I was eleven, and walked in to see my trunk at the foot of my bed. I changed into my pyjamas and got into bed, sleep consuming me quickly.

Christmas
Fandom: Chicago PD
Characters: Jay Halstead x OC Sofia / OC Hope
Warnings: cute fluff
Word count: 1403
Jay Halstead Materlist
A/N: Hello my beautifully people. Here is a request from the beautiful @andreahalstead24
Don’t be afraid to leave your comment!
—————-
For Sofia, Hope was not only one of the feelings Christmas brought her, but it was also the name of her boyfriend’s 2-year-old daughter. As Jay had said many times before his daughter had brought him hope, love and compassion when he thought life couldn’t get worse. Sofia felt the same way about the little girl.
Hope’s mother had left when Hope was mere months old leaving the young new father and newborn baby alone, without any guidance whatsoever. Sofia had shared with Jay a helping hand at raising the young girl. Sofia had been Hope’s nurse and old friend of the Jay’s. Hence how Sofia had watched the little girl grow.
Winter was here and with it came the festivities. Sofia had helped Jay decorate the house inside and out. From Christmas lights on the railing of the stairs to fresh baked cookies in the kitchen isle and a big tree in the living room. Outside were lights, inflatable, and a little snowman the three of them had built in the morning. Hope was the happiest kid on earth, she also shared the passion for Christmas with Sofia.
By the end of the night Hope was already in bed while Sofia started to place the gifts underneath the three. There were so many but how could she not get a gift for every important person in her life and in Jay’s. After all the little family had a village in their corner, it was just fitting to get them something as a token of appreciation.
She was so engrossed in her mission that she didn’t hear or see Jay lean in the living room frame admiring his beautiful girlfriend with a smile on his face. Saying he was grateful was an understatement, forever in dept is more like it. She had stayed in his life since so long ago that it almost felt like a whole lifetime had passed by.
They had been friends and gone through high school, rangers, only 2 years ago realizing their feelings and raising Hope together. For him, Hope and Sofia were everything he needed, everything he ever wanted. Pushing himself off the door frame, he picked a gift from the pile in one hand, wrapping the other around her waist and chuckling lightly when she jumped in surprise.
“Jesus. Almost gave a heart attack” Sofia said placing a hand over her heart as Jay chuckled
“I’m sorry. Santa looks beautiful this year” he teasingly said as he wrapped her in a loving hug pecking her cheeks a couple of times as she laughed
“The elf looks handsome too” she joked back making Jay furrow his eyebrows
“Who are you calling an elf?- babe, don’t ignore me” Jay continued to try and get his girlfriend’s attention and eyes back from the pile of gifts
“Do you think this are enough?” she asked biting her lip as she looked at the gifts underneath the tree
“Sure… but out of curiosity for whom?” Jay asked squinting his eyes slightly at her nervous expression
“Hope” she said as if it was nothing.
Missing Jay’s wide eyes as he choked on air, the gift that he had in hand dropped onto the floor as the surprise of her comment settled in. Stepping back from the embrace they were sharing to completely look at her.
“There is no way all this are for her-” Jay shook his head massaging his forehead as he stared at the gifts in horror
“Why?” “Babe- you can’t just buy her ten gifts and ask me if they’re enough. This are enough to give to the whole city” he hissed in low voice looking straight at her eyes as if she had grown two heads
“Firstly, why not?” she asked raising a finger as if she was offended, also hissing silently to not wake Hope up.
“She’s 2-years-old” he said in a matter-of-fact way
“And? There’s actually fifteen…” she answered whispering the last part. Jay’s mouth dropped as looked back underneath the three -more than those?-.
“Fift-” “You seriously can expect me to not buy her the stuff she likes Jay. She gave me puppy eyes” she hurriedly said
“How- how much did you spend?” Jay asked as he scratch the back of his neck
“You don’t want to know” Sofia said shaking her head pursing her lips
“Oh. For gods sakes” he said as he walked towards the couch slumping down on it.
Sofia guiltily followed him to the couch sitting side by side, biting her lip as they both looked at all the presents under the tree. Maybe she did over buy, a lot. They both sighed as Jay reached for the plate of cookies on the coffee table taking a much-needed anxiety filled bite.
“Are they good?” Sofia asked expectingly looking at Jay, as he hummed satisfied
“This are really good” he praised looking at the piece of cookie on his hand before looking at Sofia shaking his head at her guilty expression
“You spoil her to much, Soph” Jay said looking in her eyes, to which she winced
“Can you help me with the rest?” she whispered
“There’s only three cookies. Pretty sure I can make space for them” Jay said chuckling as he looked at his girlfriend’s shy smile before it morphed into guilt.
“Not about the cookies…the gifts” she whispered wincing as she waited for his reaction
“Soph- Babe…” Jay whined as he lightly hit his head with the back of the couch a couple of times.
“Please” she giggled as she pecked his lips, Jay smiling slightly into it.
“Let’s get it over with then” he sighed standing dragging her with him towards the garage. When he opened the locked door his mouth fell, eyes wide. Taking a deep breath he turned his body to looked at Sofia raising an eyebrow.
“I’m sorry…” she said in the same tone he had used before
“You’re lucky you’re cute” he said crossing his arms
“You know me. You know how I get on Christmas; don’t know why you act so surprised” she said between laughs as he shook his head amusement clear on his face.
“You’re gonna be the death of me Sophia” Jay said pecking her cheeks lovingly, before entering Santa’s improvised workshop
“Sorry!” she winced as a box fell from the pile and onto Jay’s head, who proceeded to curse under his breath
Hours later rays of sunshine shone through the curtains; silence invaded the small house in Chicago. As Jay slept with ease, the silence and coldness in the air helped him settle. That wasn’t gonna last much.
“Babe- babe wake up” Sofia said standing beside the bed pocking his exposed cheek
“Honey. It’s 6 in the morning. Come back to bed. Give it a couple of hours” Jay said groaning. Hand grabbing her sweater, dragging her back to bed as he switched his head to avoid the pocking.
“But it’s Christmas” Sofia said making a sad voice
“No. Don’t. Do that” Jay said warningly, voice hoarse and sleepy
“But Jay” “Hope isn’t even awake” as he huffed
“DADDY. SANTA CAME!” Hope came barreling into the room screaming at her father’s sleeping form
“Scratch that, she was probably snooping downstairs” Jay said getting up, laughing as he saw Hope clinging to Sofia’s hand both jumping up and down in excitement.
“I live with two children” “Oh hush! C’mon” Sofia said reaching for his hand and pulling him downstairs. As they all entered the living room filled with presents Hope yelped in happiness, resulting in both adults laughing.
“Momma. Look” Hope screamed as she picked up the empty cookie plate. Both adults looked at each other with surprised expressions on their faces.
“Did she-” “Yes she did” as both gazed wide eyed towards little Hope diving into the piles of presents
“Jay-” as Sofia went to argue it. She would never replace Hope’s mother, that was never her intention, and it would never be. He shook his head interrupting her
“Just enjoy it” Jay said beaming as he threw his arm around her shoulders bringing her closer to him in order to kiss her. When they pulled away, both smiled before gazing at Hope’s little figure trying to read the tags on the gifts.
“Alright, munchkin. Which one first?” Jay exclaimed walking towards the tree as Sofia sat on the couch facing both of them. It was a great day.

Legolas Imagine - Tell Me Somethings Last
Author's Note: Hi everyone. This is my first imagine in a while (like a year or so I think). I really hope you all like it. Please let me know! I was listening to Tom Odell's song Heal when I thought of Legolas. This is more of a sad imagine. I hope you all enjoy it. ♥
Warnings: Yelling, past trauma
Y/n = your name. H/c = hair color. F/n = friends name.
Legolas was a Prince whereas you were just a warrior, born and raised for war, not love or marriage. Your father had reminded you of that many times up until his death about a year ago. His death didn't seem to affect you hard since he had always been cruel to you ever since your mothers death when you were only three. He blamed you. He always blamed you, for everything. Legolas was different though. The prince was kind, understanding, calm, collected, loving, passionate, sweet, you could go on and on forever... And that is why when he lashed out at you one day and said something he couldn't take back, you knew you were truly not meant for love or marriage... or him.
You and Legolas had been dating for a few months at this point, spending most of your time on journeys together since you were both elves, although not of the same kind. As you two were out on another journey through the woods, you had stumbled across a camp of orcs. The two of you were easily the best fighters of the Mirkwood Kingdom and could take this camp out in a matter of a few minutes. You had decided to make a game out of it, wanting to see which of the two of you could kill more of the orcs. Legolas was a little hesitant at first but after a little convincing from you, his cute, shorter girlfriend, he nodded in agreement.
"Alright, y/n, you're on. What do I get if I win?" The tall blonde elf asked, his blue orbs peering down at you.
A smirk spread across your lips as you returned his gaze. "Hmm.." You pretended to think about what you could give your Prince, playing with a strand of you h/c hair. "I will do whatever you want or tell me to do for the rest of the day... More than I usually do, of course." The tone of your voice had a hint of seduction and tease to it, the smirk on your face telling him all he needed to know. Of course you followed his orders normally since he was the prince of Mirkwood, but he didn't usually command over you, that being his fathers job.
Returning the smirk, Legolas planted a soft, quick kiss to your lips before slightly pulling away. "And if you win... You can tell me what to do for the rest of the day." The prince said back with a wink before jumping down from the tree, landing almost completely silently on the ground beneath him.
The way he could move so quietly yet elegantly always seemed to amaze you even though you had known him for a few years. Following after him, you two approached the orc camp and began your assault. The two of you counted quietly to yourselves, racking up your kills one after another, sometimes two at once. It was all going smoothly until you turned to see how Legolas was doing. In the moment you had turned to check on your boyfriend, you were admiring him and an orc came up behind you. It was very hard to sneak up on an elf, especially one of you, but you were too focused on the love of your life, whom you hadn't told you loved yet. The love between you two is what you'd call a slow burn and you enjoyed it. Elves lived much longer than the average person so you had plenty of time to enjoy the small things with him. It all happened so quickly. Legolas turned to meet your gaze when he felt it upon him and to his horror, he saw a tall orc behind you, a massive axe held high above his head, ready to swing down upon you. Legolas reached for an arrow but he was out, the worst timing possible.
"Y/n!" Legolas cried, pulling you out of your fantasy.
As you turned around, you managed to dodge the attack in time and swing your sword high with great strength. With a thud, the orcs head landed on the ground, the body soon following suit with another, much louder thud. Blood speckled you as you turned to look back at Legolas, seeing his worry turn to something you hadn't seen on him before, at least not directed towards you. Anger.
"I'm okay. I'm okay!" You said reassuringly, walking over to him after he had slain the last of the orcs, his anger still shown.
"You could've been injured! Or worse, y/n!" His voice boomed, echoing through the now quiet forest. "You could've been killed!" Legolas' voice made you flinch.
"I-I'm.. I'm okay, Legolas.. Really." The words came out in more of a hushed tone. You always spoke in a proud, strong tone but he had now reduced you to a quiet tone, something only your father had ever done.
"Do you realize how dumb that was?!" There was no calming him down. "Gods! Do you even think?! Do you even think about anyone but yourself? You were so focused on winning, you had to look at me to see if I was ahead of you or not!"
Had he not realized you were actually looking at him to check on him and got lost in your love and adoration for him?
"That's not what happened!" You tried to protest but just as quick as you were to do that he was quicker to shut you down.
"Of course it's what happened. You are so focused on proving yourself to everyone, y/n! You've been this way ever since I met you! You think you have something to prove just because your father hated you. It would've been your fault if you got hurt or died!" His words cut deep and you were left speechless, looking at him with tears threatening to spill.
Legolas looked at you with such anger, his jaw clenched tightly. No more words were spoken as he stormed off, making his way back to the castle. You quietly followed behind him, looking from the ground to the back of his head then to the ground again. As you tried to think of what to say to him, nothing came. Was he right? Was everything really your fault? Just like your dad said? You had just stopped for a brief moment to check on the man you loved and got lost in the thoughts.
After reaching the castle, he stormed off to his room leaving you alone. You hadn't told him that during the battle you had gotten slashed by a sword on your leg. Somehow you had managed to hide it from him, probably due to his anger and the fact he had only ever looked at your eyes then the forest on the way back. But Legolas always paid attention to details. Your thoughts wandered to either he didn't notice or he noticed and didn't care. Of course your thoughts focused on the worst. He didn't care.
Making your way to the med bay, you found your friend on the way, f/n. They saw how bad you looked and quickly followed you along to the med bay, asking what had happened. Catching them up, one of the elves there bandaged you up. After being bandaged, you made your way to your room with f/n in tow. They could tell you shouldn't be alone and knowing Legolas was most likely still seething, they decided they would be the one to be there for you.
As you sat on your bed, the tears that had threatened to spill earlier in the day but you hadn't let them suddenly came rushing back. The tears slowly slid down your cheeks and f/n noticed, quick to wrap you in a hug.
"Oh, y/n... Please don't cry." F/n said softly, rubbing your back.
"He hates me." You whispered quietly, your arms slowly wrapping around your friends back, resting your chin on their shoulder.
You sat there, crying for a little while your friend held you, wishing they could take your pain away. After a few, your sobs subsided into soft whimpers every now and then. Sitting back, you leaned against the wooden headboard, looking outside your window that was only a few feet away.
"Take my mind and take my pain..." You whisper, a single tear rolling down your cheek as you close your eyes. You felt your friend's hand rest on top of yours, knowing they were trying to take your pain away in any way they could.
Looking at them with tears in your eyes, you whispered softly. "Tell me somethings last.."
F/n had been your friend longer than you had been at Mirkwood. They had come with you when you joined the guards and they knew about your past with your father and mother, more than Legolas knew. They also knew how nothing good ever seemed to last for you except your two's friendship. F/n knew that you were asking for them to tell you that your relationship with Legolas would last but they couldn't. No one could tell you that but Legolas himself.
"My father was right. I'm not meant for love.. or marriage." You said, looking back out the window with sadness evident in your eyes.
What neither of you two knew though, was this whole time Legolas was sitting outside your door, back pressed to the door with his own sadness in his eyes. He had heard everything and regretted getting so mad at you. It hadn't been your fault. But he was too afraid to go in there right now and tell you that. You were broken. Broken because of him.

technicolor (f.w.)
prompt request by anon: it is said that when you meet your soulmate, you will know because the world that you knew in black and white would turn technicolor. during a harmless game of spin the bottle, you didn’t expect your soulmate to be revealed to you.
warnings: drinking, mentions of eating, mild language
pairing: fred weasley x fem! gryffindor reader
word count: 5.3k
The power of true love was life altering in your world. Literally. The world was painted in shades of blacks, whites, and grays. It always was for those who hadn’t met their true love, their soulmate, their one and only. It was said on the occasion that you had kissed your soulmate, the world before you would erupt into vibrant color. People spent their whole lives, searching for the person who brought color to them.
Living in a dull, colorless world was mundane to say the least, but it was all you knew. The idea of living in a world of color was an exciting thought to say the least, but in a way it scared you. Suddenly the world as you knew it changing abruptly before your eyes because you had met someone that destiny created for you? It was a scary thought. But in your head, you had nothing to worry about. You didn’t plan on meeting your soulmate any time soon.
Or so you thought.
Laying upside down on the common room couch, you flipped through the pages of a Quibbler, not really paying attention to the words on the page. You looked on either side of you, Katie painting her nails on your left and Alicia on the right making light chatter with Angelina. Needless to say, the four of you were bored out of your skull. It was a quiet Friday night, nothing happening in the common room. No parties, no quidditch match, no nothing.
With a groan, you pull yourself up from your inverted position and speak, “So are we all just going to sit around here like a bunch of bums and wait for something exciting to happen?”
Katie sighs, “That’s even if something exciting happens.” She blows on her nails, shaking her hands back and forth to expedite the drying process. “Does anyone have any ideas?”
The two of you look to Alicia and Angelina who just shrug as you throw your head back in annoyance. “Well, someone think of something because I refuse to let a perfectly good Friday night go to waste,” you flop the Quibbler on the table in front of you and hold your arms across your chest. “What can we do to entertain ourselves?”
Alicia stands up and starts pacing, trying to think of something. “We could...sneak some food out from the kitchens? Convince a house elf to sneak us some sweets from dinner two nights ago. Those biscuits were so good,” she thinks out loud.
Katie groans, “The thought of food makes me sick. I ate so much at dinner tonight after Ron challenged me to see how many dinner rolls I could fit into my mouth.”
The thought of Katie with bread rolls in her mouth makes the group chuckle. “Okay, so food is out of the picture,” Alicia speaks with a soft smile. “What about a movie? I can see if Hermione would let me borrow her projector and we could watch one of those movies I have tucked away in my trunk,” she suggests, surveying the group’s reaction.
Angelina makes a sour face. “We had a movie marathon last week, I’d like to do something different,” she tells Alicia who rolls her eyes.
Alicia huffs, plopping herself back onto the couch. “Well, then I’m out of ideas, so you come up with something, Johnson.”
The group sits in a bored silence for a few moments before Angie breaks the silence. “Should I go bother Fred and George? Surely they’ll find something to do. They always make things interesting,” she speaks, raising her brows, gaging her audience’s reaction.
Katie rolls her eyes, “Merlin, Angie, if you want an excuse to see your darling Georgie, you can just say so.” You laugh at her comment and give Katie a teasing high five as Alicia giggles along. Angelina rolls her eyes and leans back on the couch. Angelina and George had been dating ever since sixth year when they kissed after their first date and they had seen the world in color, confirming their soulmate status. Katie mockingly starts teasing Angie now, “Meh, meh, I’m Angie, I love George, I see the world in color. Meh, meh, my sweater is green and not black like you guys see it, blah, blah,” making you cackle, throwing your head back in laughter, clutching your stomach.
You lean into Katie as you laugh, making her laugh harder as Angelina stands up, “Oh, piss off you two! I can’t help it that he’s my soulmate and I found him so early!”
“We’re just teasing you, Angie,” you wipe the tears of laughter from your eyes. “Go on, go fetch the twins. I’m sure they’ll think of something to do. Tell ‘em to bring Jordan with them if he’s around. Lee is always a good time.” Alicia nods in agreement.
With a small smile, Angelina darts off up the stairs to the boys’ dormitory. Alicia shakes her head, “That girl is whipped for the Weasley. I can’t believe she found her soulmate already. We’re not even eighteen yet.”
It was true. It wasn’t unheard of people finding their soulmates at a young age, but it surely wasn’t common. Most people were friends or knew their soulmates for a while before they were aware that they were in fact soulmates. For example, your parents both went to Hogwarts and we friends for years. It wasn’t until after four years after graduation that they realized they were soulmates. You smiled to yourself at the thought of your parents. You wished that you could have a soulmate story like theirs.
Katie folds her arms across her chest, “Quite frankly I hope I don’t meet my soulmate anytime soon. I feel like after you meet your soulmate, you’re expected to drop everything and be with them. But you have your whole lives ahead of you to spend time with each other. I’d rather be single and have fun and live my life in black and white for a while before seeing color with a soulmate.”
In a way you did agree with Katie. Most people who met their soulmate at a young age tended to drop everything in order to be there for their soulmate. Coordinating their lives and schedules to their soulmates, moving cities for them, planning their days around the other. It just seemed so intense. You were seventeen, you couldn’t drop everything right now for another person.
Moments later, Angelina happily came down the stairs with a large smile on her face as George, Fred, and Lee all trailed behind her. “The entertainment has arrived, ladies,” George speaks with a big beaming smile on his face as you teasingly rolled your eyes.
You sit up and speak, “What entertainment did you bring, Georgie?”
He places a hand over his heart, pretending to be offended at your comment. “Are we not enough for you, (Y/N)? Is our presence not enough?” George mockingly stumbles back. “Freddie, I feel faint! Catch me!”
Dramatically, Fred scoops up his twin brother as George pretends to faint. “Merlin’s beard, (Y/N), look at what you’ve done!” he mockingly screeches as you roll your eyes and giggle. Katie huffs a here we go as she leans back into the couch. The twins always put on a show when they were around you guys. You never minded it; they were quite funny when they wanted to be. “Quick, Lee, we need to revive him!”
Lee, now in on the joke, runs over to the coffee table and clear it quickly. “Bring him here!” he exclaims as Fred lays a fake limp George on the table as you laugh and Alicia scoffs.
“Good Godric, you three are a bunch of idiots,” she huffs with a smile on her face. No matter how much she hated to admit it, this was much better than sitting around and doing nothing.
Fred speaks, “Alright, Lee, give me the reviving potion,” sticking out his hand.
Even more dramatic than before, Lee pulls out a large bottle of fire whiskey from his satchel as he improvises an operatic song as he places it in Fred’s hands. Lee opens George mouth as Fred uncorks the bottle and pours a glug into George’s mouth. George swallows it and dramatically inhales. “I’ve been revived!” he exclaims as the boys cheer.
Katie perks up at the sight of fire whiskey. “Where in the hell did you get a bottle of that?” she sits up and grabs the bottle from Fred’s hands. Lee pulls out a few cups from his satchel and places them on the table, Katie immediately pouring everyone a glass of fire whiskey.
Fred smiles, “It’s our emergency bottle. In case situations like this happen.”
Folding her arms across her chest, Alicia speaks up, “And exactly how many emergency bottles do you boys have?”
The trio looks at each other before sighing and speaking as a chorus, “Four.”
“Uh huh, that’s what I thought,” she laughs before taking a cup of fire whiskey from Katie, Katie then handing you one. “Well, it’s better than nothing I guess.”
You look at the whiskey in your cup before sighing and taking a sip, the liquid burning your throat, but warming your chest up in all the right ways. A familiar sensation. You hum in contentment. “Better than nothing is damn right,” you smile as the twins chuckle. “What were you lot doing upstairs?”
Lee takes a seat in the chair across from the couch, “Same thing as you gals. Bored out of our skulls. However, these two numbskulls were trying to conjure up a plan to go pull a prank on Filch.” George snickers as Lee flicks the back of his head, earning a small ow. “Good thing you all were bored too otherwise I would have been dragged into that mess.”
Fred scoffs, “Oh please, you wish you could pull off a prank at the caliber that Georgie and I do. Isn’t that right, brother?” He turns to George who is already cuddled up next to Angelina on the love seat, arm wrapped around her shoulders, pulling her close next to him. Fred rolls his eyes and makes a gagging sound. “You two make me sick.”
George just pulls Angie closer to his side as Angie blushes a deep crimson. “You’re just jealous, Freddie. I’ve got a hot girlfriend and I can see the world in color, making it quite obvious that you, dear brother, are green with envy.” Angie rolls her eyes, but still places a soft kiss to George’s cheek.
Fred shakes his head, “He’s gone soft, Lee. We’ve lost one of our bravest soldiers.”
“Piss off,” Angie speaks up, defending her boyfriend as Freddie chuckles, lips turning into a gorgeous smile. “Now that we’ve all got our drinks, let’s really get the party started...” she wiggles her eyebrows. “Katie Bell, truth or dare.”
Katie groans and sips her fire whiskey before deciding what she wants to do. As she ponders, you see Fred scoot over to you as you giggle, him dragging his bum on the floor, making his way to you. Fred smiles up at you, “This seat taken?” he refers to the spot on the floor right in front of your legs.
You shake your head with a smile, “It’s got your name written all over it, Weasley.”
Fred gives you a cheeky grin, “Brilliant.”
He turns around and leans his back up against your legs and rests one of his arms on your knees. You and Fred were close friends. In fifth year when Angelina confessed to you that she had a crush on George, you started spending more time with the twins and developed a close relationship with them and Lee. You, in particular, got along with Fred like a house on fire. The two of you loved to crack jokes on the sidelines, teasing George and Angie, giggling and stealing little glances here and there.
Angelina always told you that you and Fred would make a cute couple. She insisted she saw the way that Fred looked at you, but you always brushed it off as if it were nothing. You and Fred were friends, nothing more, nothing less. A partnership would just totally ruin the vibe between the two of you. There was no point to it. Even though you may have always admired Fred’s looks from a far and his charming personality, you had finally convinced yourself that you and Fred Weasley were platonic.
As Fred leaned up against your legs, sipping on his whiskey, your eyes found Angie’s as she lifted her brows, looking at you knowingly, sending you a look that said Oh? You rolled your eyes and shook your head, responding with your eyes, No way. She just shrugged and sipped her fire whiskey nonchalantly as if to say Whatever you say...You just brushed it off and leaned back as Katie challenged Lee to a dare.
----------
The night progressed and the drinking continued and the bottle got less and less full. Soon enough, the common room was full of your tipsy giggles as the lot of you cracked jokes with each other. You hugged your sides as you cackled as Fred did a spot on impression of Draco Malfoy as he mimicked him walking through the halls, yelling “Potter!” every now and then. Of course, the humor was amplified by the liquor in your hands, but it still was hilarious. The whole group was in a fit of giggles as Lee quite literally fell to the floor from laughter too hard.
Alicia laid her head in your lap as she laughed, wiping tears from her eyes as you all recovered from laughter. “Fred, that was brilliant. You’ll have to show Harry tomorrow morning,” she tells him as Fred plops down next to you on the couch, stealing Katie’s spot as she was now sat on the floor next to Lee.
Fred chuckles and rests his arm around the back of the couch, gently hovering behind you as you suddenly become very aware of his presence. You spot Angelina out of your periphery vision as she smirks to herself before leaning over and whispering something in George’s ear, making George look at you with a devilish smirk on his lips. Your gaze towards them hardens as you mouth, Knock it off. George just smiles and sips his drink quietly, pretending to mind his own business.
You turn to Fred and give him a soft smile as he drops his left eye in a wink, making your heart skip a beat. “Easy, Weasley,” you say in a cautious tone as he lifts his arms in defense. You shake your head and lean back into the couch, bumping into his arm that is draped across the back of the couch. Neither of you bother moving.
Alicia rises from your lap and reaches for the fire whiskey bottle, but groans in defeat when she realizes it’s empty. “Bloody hell,” she groans. She looks to Lee and begs, “Is it appropriate to call this an emergency and you can grab another one of your emergency fire whiskeys?”
Lee laughs, “I regret to inform you we have a one emergency bottle a night policy.” Alicia groans and flops back onto the couch. Suddenly, a light bulb goes off in Lee’s mind, making his eyes grow wide and a little smile dance on his lips. “However,” he wiggles his brows and surveys the group. “Now that we’ve got an empty bottle, I think we all know where we can take this party...”
Looking up from her cup, Katie says, “Where are we taking the party? Are we going to bed?” she asks with sadness in her voice. “But the night is so young!”
Shaking his head, Lee looks at Katie. “Are you daft, Bell?” he asks as she rolls her eyes, sipping her whiskey. “I meant we could play a cheeky game of spin the bottle,” Lee suggests.
Alicia huffs, “Really, Jordan? What are we? Fourth years?”
“Oh, come on, Spinnet, it’s just to add a little spice to the mix,” Lee shimmies his shoulders making you laugh. “Besides, it gives you an excuse to have the privilege of planting a sloppy one on me.”
Alicia fake gags. “I’d rather spend a whole day with Professor Snape,” she spits as Lee laughs.
George speaks up now, “Angie and I will sit this one out, but we will watch the show.” He pulls Angie impossibly closer to him as she cuddles into his chest. “For obvious reasons,” he smirks. Fred boos his brother and throws his now empty cup of fire whiskey at him. “What? I am not kissing someone other than my literal soulmate,” he rationalizes. “Besides, you’ve got five players. That’s enough. That is, if everyone is comfortable playing.”
The group all looks at each other, gaging everyone’s feelings of playing a cheeky game. You had to admit you’d rather not play a game as childish as spin the bottle, but for a weird reason, you were keen on playing at least one round. As you looked around, it seemed like everyone was on board to play.
Your eyes meet Fred’s for a moment as he looks at you, his eyes darting from your eyes to your lips for a split second, hoping you wouldn’t catch him. You quickly turn away, trying to hide the heat on your cheeks. “I don’t see the harm in one game,” you shrug as you see Fred smile from the corner of your eye. Lee claps his hands cheering as Alicia and Katie agree.
Fred speaks up, “Well, I can’t let Lee be the only bloke having all the fun, now can I?”
Everyone is on board with the game as Lee cheers, “Alright! Five for five!” He places the empty bottle of fire whiskey on its side in order to spin it. “Everyone knows the rules. You spin and kiss whomever it lands on, no matter who it is. I’m looking at you, Weasley. If you land on me, I expect the best snog of my life,” he teases as you all laugh wildly. “Whomever the bottle lands on gets the next spin. All good?” Everyone nods. Lee smiles, “Groovy. Welp, youngest goes first. Bell, you’re up.”
Katie giggles, “Put on your chapstick, you lucky sons of bitches.” Alicia laughs as Katie reaches and spins the bottle. The bottle does a series of spins, turning clockwise as she anticipates who she’ll be planting a kiss on. She nervously dances back and forth as you watch her with a small smile on your face.
Slowly the bottle stops spinning to land gently on Fred. Your heart stops for a second and your mouth runs dry. You blink a few times and swallow hard. The group all claps their hands and laughs as Katie rolls her eyes. You on the other couldn’t help but have a tight feeling in your chest. You force a smile on your face before you look at Angelina quickly. She raises her brows, monitoring your reaction as you just shake your head, letting her know you were fine.
Katie scoots over to Fred as Fred leans down. “Get ready for your mind to be blown,” Fred jokes as Katie slaps his arm.
You watch very intently as Fred ducks his head down to connect his lips with Katie. You stop breathing for a moment as you watch Fred kiss one of your closest friends. Your palms start sweating and you pull yourself away from looking at them kiss. Lee and Alicia oooh and giggle as you look at Angie, eyes screaming at her, Okay maybe I’m not fine.
She gives you a nervous smile and mouths, “It’s just a silly game.”
You nod your head and shake it off. It was a silly game. That’s all. A stupid, silly, childish game. It meant nothing. You knew Katie didn’t like Fred like that. She had fancied Adrian Pucey for a few months now. This kiss meant literally nothing.
It felt like the kiss had lasted for hours when it was a brief five seconds. Katie pulls away from the kiss and returns to her position on the floor. Fred just smirks and leans back in his seat, dragging his thumb across his bottom lip. You watch as he does so, the small gesture being surprisingly attractive to you as you gulp. But you quickly turn around so Fred doesn’t catch you watching.
Katie laughs, “Eh, you’re nothing to ride home about, Freddie. Hate to break it to you.”
Fred shrugs, “It’s alright, Bell. The first stage of grieving is denial. You’ll eventually accept that that kiss was the best one of your life.”
Lee cackles as Fred joins him in his laugher before leaning over and spinning the bottle for himself. The bottle spins round and round and round as you watch it, the bottle hypnotizing you. You secretly wished that the bottle would land on you, wanting to be able to kiss Fred Weasley and getting the confirmation that you didn’t like Fred in that way. But honestly, you just hoped it was anyone but Katie or Alicia.
The bottle slowly stopped spinning as it gently landed on Lee, making the group erupt in laughter. Lee’s lips drew up in a devilish smile as he rubbed his hands together, “Here I come, big boy!” he exclaims, making you laugh even harder.
Fred laughs and sits up in his seat. “Give it to me, Jordan,” he challenges.
Lee springs to his feet and grabs Fred’s face with both hands, squeezing his cheeks together before smashing his lips on Fred’s. Fred is laughing as Lee kisses him roughly, rocking him back and forth. George is absolutely dying of laughter, falling into his chair as the rest of the group squeals.
Alicia grabs onto your arms, squeezing you as she laughs, you doing the same. The kiss happens for a while as you cackle, “Good Godric, come up for some air why don’t you?”
With a smack, Lee pulls off of Fred as Fred falls back in his seat. Fred’s eyes are wide as Lee wipes his lips. “And that,” Lee points to Fred, “is how you kiss someone. Not that pathetic thing you gave Katie.”
The group comes down from laughing at Lee spins the bottle for himself. The cycle repeats for a while. Lee kisses Alicia, Alicia kisses you, you kiss Katie, Katie kisses Lee, and then the bottle spins again. Lee spins and the bottle gently lands on you as you giggle. “I’m expecting excellence, Lee Jordan,” you eye him as he laughs. “Not going to lie, Alicia might give you a run for your money.”
Lee rolls his eyes, “In her dreams.”
You giggle before the two of you close the gap between you two, kissing each other. The kiss is honestly not bad. Lee’s lips tasted of the fire whiskey along with vanilla and sugar. The kiss was gentle, but not bad at all. Your friends around you all cheer and oooh at you two in typical fashion as you both smile into the kiss. You pull away and Lee sends you a wink. “The reviews are in,” you speak. “Not bad, Jordan. Not bad at all. Actually, pretty damned good!”
Lee pumps his arm. “Hah! Take that, Spinnet!”
“Alright, my turn to spin,” you giggle and excitedly spin the bottle.
The bottle spins and spins and spins as everyone waits in anxious anticipation. Who could it be? Slowly, the bottle stops spinning and lands on the person right next to you, Mr. Fred Weasley.
Your heart stops as your mouth goes dry. Everyone immediately erupts into cheers, specifically George who springs onto his feet. “Oh, I’ve been waiting for this one!” he cheers as you gulp.
Kissing Fred Weasley? Maybe this game was a mistake.
You stare at the bottle, and then to Angie who wears the biggest grin on her face, and then back at the bottle and finally to Fred. His eyes stare back at you as you gulp. A smirk dances on Fred’s lips as you suck in a breath. The whole group stares at the pair of you, silent, waiting for something to happen.
The tension between you and Fred was so thick you could cut it with a knife. “Cat got your tongue, (Y/L/N)?” Fred teases you as he scoots a little closer to you. You suck in a shaky breath as he chuckles lowly.
You snap yourself out of this anxious gaze and speak, confidence now coursing through your veins. You were going to kiss your best friend and it was happening now. “Make your move, Weasley,” you challenge with flirtation laced in your voice.
Fred smiles, “No need to tell me twice,” he lowly whispers.
Immediately, Fred cups your cheek and brings your lips to his. Your lips connect and the whole group loudly cheers and screams. You hear Lee scream, “Oh shit! Oh shit! Oh shit!”
But you couldn’t care what was happening. You were kissing Fred. Your heart was beating a mile a minute. Fred’s lips were soft, but demanding as they pressed firmly onto yours. His lips tasted of sweet cinnamon and spice; his lips were like a personal drug that you couldn’t get enough of. You pressed your lips harder against his as you both sucked in a breath, your hand resting on his forearm. His lips moved gently against yours as you both enjoyed this kiss too much for a friendly game of spin the bottle.
You opened up your mouth enough for Fred to slide his tongue in, massaging his with yours as you moan just loudly enough for Fred to hear, making him smile into your kiss. As the group watched you two softly snog, they only cheer louder. You were too involved in relishing in the way Fred’s lips felt pressed against yours to care about how your friends were reacting.
The kiss was everything you wanted a first kiss with someone to be. It was gentle, but didn’t lack in passionate or desire. His lips moved in sync with yours as you followed his lead, his tongue dancing with yours. It was exactly how you imagined kissing Fred Weasley.
You are pulled from your thoughts when George cries out, “For Merlin’s sake Freddie, don’t eat the poor girl!”
Gently, you break the kiss as Fred’s lips follow yours for a moment, not wanting the kiss to end just yet. The two of you keep your eyes closed, relishing in the moment that you two shared.
Lee laughs, “Is it just me or is it hot in here?”
You giggle and gently pry your eyes open. But that’s when you gasp.
You look at Fred who sits in front of you in full color. His bright red hair contrasting against the light blue thermal shirt he wears. His brown eyes stare at you just as much in shock.
It happened.
“Merlin’s beard...” you whisper.
The room fall silent as your friends stare at the two of you in confusion, wondering what could have possibly happened that made the two of you stare at each other in shock.
“Is it...” you start.
“Yeah,” Fred answers. He lets out a light laugh. “Yeah, it is.”
You let out a light laugh with him and slowly, look around the room taking in your surroundings, the whole common room in beautiful colors of maroon and gold. Color dances everywhere as you let out an amazed chuckle.
Looking at Angie with amazement, she suddenly realizes exactly what’s going on. A smile erupts on her face as she lets out a sigh. “Good Godric,” she breathes. She looks at George. “It happened.”
The entire group registers what is happening as they stare at the two of you in awe as you two take in your surroundings gentle. “Oh shit,” Lee breathes out with a smile. “That’s bloody brilliant...”
You look back at Fred who just wears a gentle smile on his face as you look deeply into his chocolate brown eyes that swim with amazement and adoration. You could look into those eyes forever. And lucky for you, that’s what you were going to do.
Breaking the silence, Angelina says, “We’ll leave you two to it then. Guys...”
Your friends all start to leave the common room, running up the stairs to the dormitories, definitely to chat about what just happened.
You are now left with Fred in the common room, sitting on the couch together, staring at each other in technicolor. “Hi, Freddie,” you breathe out with a smile.
Fred smiles, “Hi, (Y/N),” he reciprocates. The two of you just take the other one in for a few moments as you gulp. What were you supposed to say? What were you supposed to do? Merlin’s sake, this was supposed to be a cheeky game of spin the bottle and all of a sudden. “We’re soulmates,” Fred speaks plainly.
“I guess so,” you laugh. You gently bite your lip. “I never thought it would be you, Fred.”
He inhales a long breath. “I had a feeling,” Fred admits as you teasingly smack his arm. “I’m glad I was right,” he confesses as you blush. “You have the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen. With and without color,” he tells you. “I didn’t think that you could get more gorgeous, but color has proved me wrong.”
You shake your head, “Freddie...” you trail off, blushing wildly, crimson appearing on your cheeks for the first time. Fred takes your hand in his and gently rubs his thumb over your knuckles. You give into his touch, nothing feeling more right. “I’m so glad it’s you.”
Fred lifts your hand up to his lips and presses a kiss to your knuckles. “We’re soulmates,” he repeats himself as you nod. “Wow...so, we get to spend forever with each other, huh? You’re going to get really tired of me, aren’t you?” he jokes as you laugh.
“I could never grow tired of you,” you confess, squeezing his hand. You run your hand through his red hair. The signature of the Weasleys that you could finally see now. “I do have to say though,” you start. “I was not expecting your hair to be this red.”
Fred laughs, “Get used to it, darling. You’ll be staring at it for the rest of your life. Not to mention, the Weasley genetics are strong. Sorry to say that if we decide to have kids, they’ll end up like this.”
You roll your eyes, “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, Freddie.” He smiles and sends you a wink. “So,” you breathe out. “What do we do now?”
He inhales deeply and sighs. “Well,” he starts. “I think we ought to tell people, specifically our parents,” he says as you nod. “But other than that, we do what we want.” You gaze into Fred’s eyes and smile. “(Y/N), we have the rest of our lives together. There’s no rush. We can go at our own pace. We don’t have to pay attention to what people say we should be doing. I’m just happy that we’ve found each other that way we can start forever now.”
Your heart fills with joy and adoration at his words. You had always worried that you wouldn’t love soulmate, nevertheless like them, but loving Fred Weasley was going to be the easiest task of your life. Living your forever in color together.
“Sounds good to me, Weasley,” you smile.
Fred leans in and closes the gap between you two, kissing you again sweetly like he had done minutes ago for the first time. His lips are even gentler than before on yours as you smile into the kiss. Fred pull away and smiles, “Reckon we go upstairs and get the teasing out of the way from the lot?”
You take a moment. “Let’s wait a little while. We have forever for them to tease us. We’ll only have this moment for a short time.”
He shakes his head. “Merlin, you’re perfect.”
And there the two of you laid in each other’s arms, taking in the new colorful world before you, souls now connected forever. And you wouldn’t have it any other way.
