I love Jiang Yanli. Anyone who hates her just doesn't understand her character 😤
Jiang Yanli is a child who was forced to act like an adult when the adults in her life failed to provide a nurturing environment for their children. Anyone who says she should've stopped Madam Yu forgot 3 things. 1) Madam Yu is an adult and Jiang Yanli is a child.
2) Madam Yu is Jiang Yanli's mother, and anyone who has really strict parents can understand that trying to stand up against them is a very VERY scary thing, especially if you're still a child,
3) Madam Yu is someone who still is strict on her children. She doesn't have a 180° personality change when she deals with them, she yells at them and threatens to punish them too if they try to interfere with her punishing WWX. The best thing Jiang Yanli can do in those situations is try to defuse/mediate them or by distracting Madam Yu long enough that WWX can long off and wait for Madam Yu to calm down.
People keep forgetting that Jiang Yanli is at most like 2-3 or at MOST 4 years older than JC and WWX. She isn't a full grown adult when Madam Yu starts mistreating WWX, yet so many people I've seen have 'adultified' her during discussions around Madam Yu's abuse of WWX.
Jiang Yanli is also a woman in a Society which is heavily discriminatory on people's birth status (Eg: WWX being called the child of a servant as an insult at various points, JGY being belittled for his mum being a prostitute, Luo Qingyang (Mian Mian) having her defending WWX being portrayed as "A woman who has stupid feelings and isn't thinking straight because she's clearly in love with him").
Jiang Yanli didn't have a strong Golden Core like Madam Yu, nor was she was revolutionary once-in-a-generation genius like Wen Qing or Wei Wuxian, nor could she leave the Sect and live as a Rogue Cultivator like Mian Mian, but she was person who cared deeply for her family/loved ones and always was there to provide support.
For people who critique her for pushing WWX and getting stabbed instead, causing JC to get mad at WWX for 'killing her' and causing Jin Ling to become an orphan, we literally see through Jiang Yanli's actions that she always wants to keep her little brothers safe. Even in her finals moments, the only thing Jiang Yanli wanted to do was protect her little brothers, so of course the only going through her mind when she sees someone trying to stab WWX is to push him. She just wants to keep her brothers safe like she always has. Even after WWX accidently caused the death of Jin Zixuan (we all know it's Jin Zixun's fault), she still cares deeply for him and wants to keep him safe.
I have so many thoughts that I can't add here (Especially on Madam Yu's character) but that's for another day.
In conclusion: Live, Laugh, Love Jiang Yanli.
(The rant above was caused by a five hour nap that was interrupted and I had to write this, then saved it to my drafts, before finally posting it after eating an entire bag of cheap chocolate)

like maybe it's just a show that isn't talking down to children. just because a show has themes and topics that may seem a bit mature for childrens programming doesn't automatically mean it was also made for adults too just say you like the fact that the show covers these and depicts things in a way that you like 😭

got mad about the portrayal of adoption in media again. 10 dead 50 injured
#adoption on tv falls into three catagories.#1: white couple saves minority or disabled child from evil poverty parents#2. adoptive parents either outright stole OR never told baby they are adopted. baby reunites with birth parents and it goes super well#baby now has two loving families or abandons adopted family wholesale for the '''''''real''''' family#3. baby is afopted and obsessed with finding birth family for extremely nebulous reasons. either succeeds and follows path of scenario 2 or#fails and learns that it doesnt matter where you come from only where you are#now. im not daying these dont happen in real life.#but no one ever wants to talk abt the american white adoption infustry's evils when talking abt yhe evils in adoption. espcially with indig#children and imported children/fashionable adoption.#and on the positive side of these stories you never ever see a character just. Be Adopted. im so fucking mad at myself at my mother at her dead husband at god fucking knows what. "concentrate on yourself" well i cant can i. now more than anything i should and i cant. losing my fucking mind istg
#i wasted the whole fucking weekend because i *had to* come visit her and once i visited i *had to* hang out with my fucking grandfather#watching him cry about grandma and bitch about modern times and the waiter not doing his job because the café was full to bursting#and it took longer than usual to get our coffees so ofc he had to loudly insult him in third person. oh and then he had to bitch about#gay people and women who dont want children too because of he did. and i sat there and listened to it because i HAD TO#wasted four fucking hours. and then i HAD TO go to the theatre with my mom because she got us tickets because she wanted this#to be a nice day for me but i dont have fucking time to have nice days rn but in order for HER to have a nice day i need to at least pretend#i am having one. so i wasted another almost two hours on that play#which was some modern uselessly loud to the point of being physically painful bullshit bad enough that we left mid-show#and then i had to go meet with her friends so lost another two hours and by the time i got home to write that bullshit thesis it was 11pm#and i barely got anything done till 1 am because i went through another stupid little mental breakdown and then it was almost 6 am#and i had to stop because i had a train at 8 and i already only slept like 3 hours that day#and then i got home yesterday totally fucking exhausted and i started reading stuff for the thesis but i was falling asleep so i laid down#'for 10 minutes' and i woke up today at 6. not having written a word lol#and now i could just say fuck it and defend it in september and it would make my life so much easier. but my voice teacher wants me#to get accepted for the masters degree even if im already planning to get the deans leave for the first semester so like. god.#i cant do this lol#i know i should have started earlier but i was kinda busy losing my fucking mind and lying in bed staring at the ceiling for hours#and contemplating dropping out completely lol god i hate my life so much it's unreal
