So Jay’s yellow lightning
So I said if my last post got to 60 notes I’d actually make a post on this and a certain mutual decided to be funny. Now here I am so allow me to share my thoughts on the change of color in Jay’s lighting because BOY do I have ideas. I’d also like to state this does have spoilers for part two of season two for Dragons Rising so if you haven’t seen it, LOOK AWAY!
so as we’ve seen, Jay’s lightning changes to a yellow rather than the blue is always has been. We really get to see this in one of the newest episode of Dragons Rising during Inside the Maze. So why would his lightning change like this?? And why am I over analyzing the color of a lego’s powers?? Because I think that this color change really does have a sort of significance.
Sure you COULD argue and say that the change in color was just a stylist choice to better fit with Dragons Rising animation but I don’t think that’s all it is. If you look at this image of Jay during the flash back with him and Cole fighting over the remote, his lightning is still blue. The lightning does not flicker between blue and yellow like it has been shown during the present setting of Dragons Rising, so it doesn’t seem to just be a stylistic choice.
Now onto Agent Walker. We get a brief scene of Jay as Agent Walker during part 1 of season 2 where his powers are shown. When we do see his lightning here, we see bits of yellow in it. Remember this is now the current timeline of Dragons Rising, so there’s clearly been some sort of change between that flash back, and the merge. But even here when the yellow does first show up his lightning isn’t completely yellow, it still has more blue than yellow to it. This is before he had been ‘saved’ by Ras, when he was still apart of the Administration. Or rather before he had shattered his goodness.
Into the Maze. What an episode. We FINALLY get to see Jay use his powers in battle here. When he does make his appearance in front of the ninja, we see him show off his lightning. NOW it is more yellow than blue, and at this point Jay has not exactly shattered his goodness yet however he’s very close to that point, as when he does put the mask on and Arin exclaim he’s going to shatter his goodness, we hear Lloyd say “I’m afraid he already has.” Hm. Kind of a strange thing to say, even if he WASN’T fighting Nya at this moment, it’s still strange to hear Lloyd so quickly assume Jay has lost himself. So, Lloyd himself must have sensed or seen some sort of change indicating that Jay is different. Now onto his fight with Nya, we see him use his powers to his full extent. His lightning is almost completely yellow at this point with only small bits of blue here and there.
The wolf mask. At this point, Jay has now used the wolf mask and shatterspin, he has shattered his goodness. From this point on, his lightning is almost completely yellow as he battles with Nya. Once he loses the fight and has his powers taken, it is shown as completely yellow when Roby takes it into the Elemental Cup. Even when Nya has Jay’s powers, they are still shown as yellow however as she shoots it up into the air, it does appear to be a bit more blue once again. And how does his lighting being yellow tie into Jay’s lost goodness?
Yellow. This color can have many many different meanings and different symbolism. However, yellow has had a HISTORY of being associated with betrayal. In history with the Spanish Inquisition, in religious history, yellow has always been connected to betrayal. People seen as traitors were tied to the color yellow. What else can yellow also tie to? Warnings and danger. The gradual change of Jay’s lighting becoming more and more yellow, Jay is coming closer and closer to losing himself. Yellow is a perfect color to use for Jay in his current state in Ninjago. It’s a bright color that grabs attention, bur can be almost overwhelming or even abrasive at times.
On a final note about his change from blue to yellow, let’s focus in on not the gain of yellow, but the loss of blue in his lighting. I’ve talked about the different meaning of yellow and how this can tie into Jay slowly becoming disconnected from himself and who he once was, but what about the blue in his powers? What can that signify?
Blue is a color commonly associated with memory, as it is a color the brain most easily and frequently remembers, such as notes written in blue pen may be easier to remember than notes written in black. What else has blue been known to represent? Tranquility, stability, and loyalty. All attributes Jay has lost as his lightning slowly changes. Even as Agent Walker, with his lightning being mostly blue still we see him still have hints of himself in there. However during Inside the Maze, he’s a completely different person. Ras’s influence is a lot scarier than you’d think, and just by looking at Jay we can see, that this is no longer the Jay Walker everyone knows. He’s lost himself and who knows when we’ll get him back.
IN CONCLUSION-
I am mentally unwell, and probably had no reason to type out this entire analysis over the color of lighting that Jay has. But here I am and maybe you guys wanna read this for whatever reason idk. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. I’m going to go pass out now.
#ninjago#lego ninjago#jay walker#ninjago dragons rising#ninjago jay#ninjago spoilers#agent walker#My hands hurt#I spent way too long on this over a goddamn color but fuck it we ball ig#if this sounds like a high school style written essay it’s because my literature teacher has me held hostage#I’m going to be shocked if anyone reads this whole thing

Dropping in to say I watched the 2011 Much Ado About Nothing and I’m a changed person. New piece of favorite media unlocked. I’m gonna be insufferable about it to my friends. I loved the 2019 version clips you posted and I’m definitely going to try and find a full version of that as well. Also want to read Hamlet bc everything I read about it sounds insane. I liked Shakespeare as a kid until high school english made me absolutely hate it, so thanks for helping me get back into it lol.
YESSSSSSSSSSS 2011 MUCH ADO MY BELOVEDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!! also you can watch the 2019 version here on archive.org (absolutely fantastic benedick/beatrice and also my favorite rendition of hero!)
#my process for consuming a shakespeare play for Real is i pick an adaptation to watch first#then i pull up the text and watch it again but like pausing to make my notes on characters/lines/production choices/etc#sometimes i go onto genius.com for the annotations for added context/meanings to help if i don't get what's going on#(that worked best for hamlet though the other ones are a bit more sparse)#then i watch it a third time w all the knowledge in my brain. Then i move onto watching a bunch of other productions#much ado#ws#i was fortunate enough to have my shakespeare enjoyment be based off of english/literature teachers i had that were really good#i got really attached to hamlet when i was learning it in high school then i got really attached to it again when i learned abt metatheater#but yea the most common thing i see re: bad english teachers putting ppl off shakespeare is that they make u read the text#instead of watching it. Or if they do make u watch an adaptation it's one that sucks and is boring#so like on my own time i make sure the adaptation im learning the text off is interesting and also good

I’d say the only downside of adapting the sandman universe into live action is the creators having to work around censorship. 24/7 fucked me up the first time around but now that I’ve read the comics that shit’s tame in live action. same with the cereal con
I swear to god every page of the cereal convention I had to sit back and go
#I don’t typically watch horror movies because I hate jumpscares#but I LOVE psychological horror that’s what fucks me up the most#so idk if this is me not being well versed in all of horror#but regardless that shit changed my psyche forever#I took a horror literature class in high school and I told my teacher dude we gotta go over some of sandman#and he was like haha maybe let’s not!!#so. do with that what you will#I can sit here with a flabbergasted expression all I want don’t let it fool you I love having to face the horrors of humanity#the sandman#my posts

The fact that there’s a Lord of the Flies fandom out there scares me. You’re telling me people read this book for fun? The book that I’m currently so pissed off about that when a character died I had to go and sit in silence for two minutes because I knew the whole thing was just downhill for there? People enjoy it?
#the problem with every single high school literature class reading the book is that everyone knows what happens#there’s only so many ways you can say “when humanity is left to it’s own devices it becomes savage”#as if all the kids aren’t upper middle class white boys with the oldest one being twelve living during one the worst wars of all time#like YES the beast is a metaphor for fear. WE GET IT.#i really hate my english teacher#lotf#lord of the flies

it's funny how in school i was constantly failing literature and reading comprehension tests and essays but now in 2023 my tumblr niche is known for making long and detailed analysis posts. amazing what just a little bit of autism can change ✨️
#to give you an idea of how bad i was. one of the reasons i dropped out is i realized i won't be able to get 10 bagrut units (which is -#- like. doing 2 tests and it counting like you finished high school even without doing the whole 3 years)#because i wanted to do 5 units of english. but. you had to do some english literature to pass#and i was so bad at it and couldn't focus during lessons at all that i figured there's no point in even trying#and now here i am. analyzing text for clout. and all i needed was to be extremely abnormal about said text#also researching classic literature so i can stand on a stage and tell people about it akskflgh my lit teacher would've lost it.

it frustrates me to no end that tumblr has read a cumulative 3 poems if I'm speaking generously. yes the tiger poem is very charming, especially since a 6 year old wrote it, but it is not actually better than a majority of published poetry you just haven't read any poetry
on the other hand, tumblr's collective ability to be overly impressed by works of art I find mundane is a testament to the power of art. if you find yourself profoundly moved by snippets of poetry interspersed between drarry gifs or w/e consider going out of your way to read poetry. I think you're the kind of person who could have really life changing experiences with art in ways the more jaded among us may be missing out on
#this is not a dig at that child#this is a dig at grown adults who don't read and then make broad sweeping statements about the state of literature#tag talk#my post#this goes for other forms of media too#we are not in high school anymore#i promise you will stop being bored to tears by classic lit#there are good books out there that will change your life#i use to feel like 'mid' media that i could fantisize about changing was the most engaging to me#until i read/watched stuff that realy resonated with me#and i realized i could peel back the layers infinitely#im doing myself no favors by being a pretencious dick about this#also not saying you have to stop liking/consuming your fave 'bad' comfort media or ajything#i just think its worth engaging with literature genres that terrible teachers have previously put you off of#or made you feel stupid for not liking

saddest part of college is we have no specific books that we're going through for class, just The Readings. no literature, just snippets from textbooks and papers about how to write. not even a short story in the mix. only The Readings.
#</3 i miss her (groundbreaking piece of literature that we would read as a class in high school and that my classmates would vastly#misinterpret much to the chagrin and anguish of my english teacher who also didn't really get the text right bc im the only one who#understands the text bc i'm gods bravest soldier and im the specialist little boy#and also its my birthday im just a little birthday boy-)#anyways where was i.#lying on the floor.#i miss mary shelley#cricket.chatterbox

the eternal cycle of "i'm not saying you shouldn't interact with this media, if anything it's great to analyze its bigotry, but maybe you shouldn't fandomize it and turn literal racist and transphobic chaticatures into #girlbosses and straight up recommend this media 'for the representation', it's very tone deaf" -> "WHAT you're trying to forbid me from ever interacting with this media you're saying im evil and trying to censor me?????" -> "i'm not saying you shouldn't interact with this media, if anything it's great to analyze its bigotry, but maybe-"
#i remember when my literature teacher from high school spend an entire period throwing a tantrum because#'the liberals are trying to censor this super important classic of literature they want to burn this book it's censorship'#and her source was one facebook post of somebody pointing out the blatant racism in the narration#and saying that this issue should be pointed out and discussed in class while analysing the book with the students

Every time I read classic books I feel this pressure to enjoy them, and I just...never do? I can appreciate why they're important or influential for their time, and I appreciate that they exist, but...I just don't enjoy the style? Like they tend to be very repetitive and they have a lot of scenes that frankly...don't do anything to move the story forwards. The kinds of things that today would get the story tossed aside by publishers. And obviously I'm not saying it is bad writing, because again--different time period. Different style. But I wish I could be completely comfortable saying I just don't enjoy those books. For me personally, reading them is often more effort than what I get out of them. And sometimes I will read them anyways because I want to understand references people make to them in other books or media, but at the end of the day they don't bring me joy like modern books or fanfiction do and I think that's okay.
#kayla rambles#i actually do think if i was reading them in a school setting i would enjoy it more#like. i like learning about what a book says about the people of the time period it was written in#but at the same time i hated being forced to analyze things for a grade#i liked learning the opinions other people had on it but i always had this idea in my head that i sucked at analysis--i still have that tbh#i shy away from trying to analyze things i DO enjoy because i just have this idea other people will do it better than me#and sometimes i just don't want to analyze things! which is also okay! but kasjdbsbjf i still feel like it's a shortcoming sometimes idk#and it's annoying i still can't get over this#like i know it basically stems from the fact it was easier for me to get an A in STEM classes while putting in minimal effort#and english--even though i did mostly get As--always felt like a struggle. it always felt like i was missing something crucial#but ironically when i took literature in grade 12--it was an elective class at my school--it was one of my fave classes ever#probably because my teacher was an atheist lesbian and i fucking adored her#she told us on like day 1 she was trying to read the bible so she could understand symbolism in other works better 😂#and she was frankly just a badass lmao#but she also taught it from the lens of what literature said about the people of the time#she brought history and linguistics into everything and she made it feel real#god if she could have taught me english class throughout high school maybe i wouldn't have cared as much about the grade

like that time in 2001 when the internet was shiny and new and I was fifteen and didn't know that "browser history" existed, but my stepdad did. He thought it was hilarious to block FFN and watch me beg my brother to fix the internet and mocked med for "those pokémon stories" for months. Hey I wonder if that might have something to do with my never, ever breathing a word about it to anyone IRL in the 20+ years that have passed since
#the teachers who knew I wrote good short stories in high school#that colleague whose writing class I participated in and who ASKED#all my boomer family members who compliment my occasional wry observations on facebook#do they ever wonder if I write#that one colleague of mine who is not quiet about her aspirations#cool#you got that short story published in that magazine with a distribution of 1000 print copies#your dystopic novel sounds kinda bonkers tho but you do you#I've written literature that's reached far more people than that#and I'll never talk to you about it#fanfic#blah#me

My final exam for the baseline ELA 12 class that I had to take to graduate Early:
Read this passage carefully and then analyze the text to answer the questions. Next, correct these sentances for spelling and grammar errors. Third, answer questions about life skills like writing letters, reading lease agreements, and writing checks. Finally, write a short statement regarding your experience in your final year of high school; min word count of 200.
My final exam for AP Lit that came after the official AP Test:
Write an Acrostic Poem of your name. Have a nice life; it's been a delight to have you in class.
