it’s something that’s planned ahead. and with each day that passes, the date draws closer and closer, and akali has to physically stop herself from vibrating with excitement, from being all over evelynn like an affectionate cat. but it’s in her expression. her smiles a touch brighter, her eyes twinkling with barely contained fondness and glee. of course she’s happy—who wouldn’t be happy about their girlfriend’s birthday?

“babe,” she hums in greeting as she presses a kiss to evelynn’s cheek, leaning over her shoulder from behind. they’re just about to settle down for the day, merely minutes before midnight. “had ahri give us a break for some time, ‘specially since we’ve been busy lately with all the photoshoots ‘n’ all. think i’m seeing dots in my vision still, actually!” the rapper laughs, wrapping her arms around her diva in a hug, swaying.

“and i know you hate all the bright stuff on you too, baby. people just don’t know when to quit.” a huff now, burying her face into the crook of evelynn’s neck. “would’ve kicked their asses too if you let me. bet ahri and bokkie would’ve had a fit, though. mostly ahri. we both know how she gets with us.” she smiles into evelynn’s skin, cheeky. the minutes continue to count down, akali all too aware of it.

“let’s go to bed, yeah? we can stay in all day later if you wanna.” there’s a barest hint of an invitation in there, but akali doesn’t give it too much emphasis. she wants to bring her closer to the bedside drawer. her hands have a mind of their own though, brushing against any exposed skin they can find. when she glances at the digital clock on the nightstand, she looks at it just in time to watch it turn to 12:00 AM. eve’s birthday. then she can’t contain herself anymore, laughing once more and shifting her position to kiss evelynn right on her lips.

“happy birthday, babygirl!” she cheers, pulling away with a grin. “i got you something!” the drawer is pulled open to reveal a large velvety box, ribbons holding it close with a card on top that reads:

to: the love of my life ❤️

“open it!” she says, grabbing the gift and giving it to her woman.

inside it would be a necklace—or rather, necklaces, magnetized together to form a heart, their names inscribed into it.

evelynn's day wasn't mean to drag on so long.

first it's a meeting that lingers a few moments past, then it's robin calling her into his office for a chat regarding something. finally abel texts her, urgently requesting her presence at the farm. while really, she didn't want to go, putting it off to the next day seemed like a worse idea -- and akali seemed rather ... impatient?

no, that's not quite it.

her girlfriend's been rather warm. affectionate, even. it's endearing, and evelynn's rather appreciative after her day. she sits now at the edge of her bed, long sharp digits idly stroking her hair as akali begins to speak. though she offers a hums at first, she tilts her head in acknowledgement. " you know she means well, darling. " she coos, continuing to tend to her hair. " the photoshoots have been rather annoying, though. "

a soft moan rumbles from evelynn's throat as akali nuzzles closer. " you can't get ahri to change her mind about how to feed. trust me, i've tried. " there's a sigh too that the demon gives, hand shifting to scratch at the back of akali's head. she's no clue to the rather intense focus akali gives to the clock.

" all day, hm? " that, if nothing else, has caught evelynn's attention. she allows a laugh to escape from her lips, craning her neck to grant herself a better look. " careful, i might just hold you to that. "

akali's movements are sudden then, caught off guard by her laughter -- furthermore by the kiss brought to her lips. evelynn barely has time to recuperate it before the rapper draws herself away, and t he demon cannot help the lovestruck smile that grows upon seeing such excitement. it's not until the cheer greets her ears that she realizes what has akali such a way.

confusion takes hold for only a short moment, brows furrowing as she wonders how she let the date escape her. or perhaps, it's never truly her dare but rather something she's claimed for the sake of appearing well ... human. her mind stalls for a second before she catches up, standing in attempts to match the energy her girlfriend gives. " thank you, honey. "

though unsure at first, her smile now is grand, only growing upon reading the note on top of the gift. evelynn's quick to glance at akali, only obliging to her request after she speaks.

" darling really, i didn't need anything -- " her mouth opens ajar, eyes widening upon the sight of the necklaces. her hands then cradle the box, one index finger trailing the 24k gold and over the inscribes of their names. her lips part, unable to find words before she begins to put the box gently aside and takes akali's hands in her's.

" thank you. " and she means it, it's likely the most sincere thing she's said all day. " i love it -- and you. "

Very excited abt blue exorcist s3!!!-> person who never watched the anime…this will either be vindication or continued annoyance depending on how people treat yukios characters in the season tho(is the anime worth it to watch?)

okay so full disclaimer i haven't touched the anime since i was maybe like. fifteen or something? so my memories of it are a bit fuzzy however Comma, i remember it being pretty good except for when they went anime original in season 1! it adapts the manga faithfully until like s1 ep 15 or somewhere around there, and then the rest of season 1 sucks. bad. BUT for season 2 they just. act like the anime original shit never happened and start to adapt the manga again from where they left off, and from what i remember season 2 was really great i have very very fond memories of the anime impure king arc!! so if you don't want to sit through anime original stuff then you can just skip it it has literally no bearing on season 2 or anything going forward, its a very clean and easy skip. the animations alright (aside from some poor, dated cg lol) and i remember the voice acting being really great! it was very nice to see the characters move around and talk lmao, so with all that in mind yeah i'd recommend it if you're interested at all!

The Pacific's waves are lapping at the shore. There's not a sound but the hiss of that water to be heard, apart from the occasional seagull squawking overhead. He sits in silence with Miranda at his side, on this beach that's finally been cleared of the rubble — of the aircraft panelling, pieces of armour torn from soldier's bodies, buildings torn apart and flung miles from their foundations, and who knows what types of organic waste.

Bodies. So many bodies — he should've been one of them, by rights.

But he isn't. He was pulled from a towering pile of that same type of rubble back in London himself months ago, hauled into a clinic and nursed back to health again. Somehow it feels no different being dragged back from the cusp of death than from its deepest reaches.

Well, almost no different. This time, he feels more at peace than he ever has. The galaxy lay in shambles upon his awakening, but it was in better condition than he left it in, somehow.

The same can be said for himself — and, again, at Miranda's hands. Though her involvement in his recovery didn't kick in till weeks after the Crucible's deployment, her influence was felt in every cybernetic holding his body together from the start.

He tries not to think of it too often, really, but it's pretty damned hard when his life is centred around his recovery, still. Even here, or perhaps especially here, with nothing to do but to bask and allegedly empty his mind, he struggles to keep his retrospection at bay.

Aiden sees her shift in the corner of his eye though, just to his right. His head turns to face her, to take in the wind tousling her hair, but all he winds up seeing truly are those deep blues peering right back at him for a good, long while.

Even the breakers seem quiet now.

And then Miranda isn't — quiet, that is. Her tone may be hushed, but the words it carries across hit him like a flashbang grenade. Intense at first, and then all turns to white. Not a moment later, the cogs in his head start spinning.

A proposal? The first thought that crosses his mind is a resounding yes, followed by the question whether he shouldn't have been doing the proposing. His delight ( a word he'd never think to apply to describe his mood with ) crushes his self-doubt in the blink of an eye though, and his face lights up from its original astonishment no later.

❛  You're serious? I mean,  ❜ he shifts in the sand, scrambling to kneel beside her crossed legs. It's not as quick and as fluent a movement as it would've been before the thorough beating he took all those months ago, but he manages.

He cleans the sand off his palms on his shorts before taking her face between both hands. ❛  There's not a single person alive I'd rather spend the rest of my life with, Lawson.  ❜ Towards her he leans, simultaneously pulling her in for a smile-tinged kiss.

It's in that moment of contact that his unadulterated joy makes punctures his composure in a more confound way. He's not about to cry, but he could. He's touched to profound enough an extent that he's afraid of just what his expression might betray if he pulls back too far. But he's no coward, and if anyone's permitted to see past the stoic helmet he always wear, it's Miranda.

So he pulls back, just far enough for his eyes to be able to focus on hers. ❛  Sure know how to keep me on my toes, Miranda ... You about ready for happily ever after?  ❜
