It was Odetta's father who taught her the lesson about trust. "It's a liability," he said, making his daughter watch as he sliced the throats of her childhood friends in front of her. "You are strong only if you are alone." But the girl was never alone. Indeed, there it was, deep under the family estate; something Other, sleeping, seething, waiting. It was capable of love, that kind of love only found in dark and rotting places, smelling sweetly of death. And yet, to Odetta, it was hope. And as she got older, her hope grew - all teeth and nails. As a dutiful daughter would, Odetta decided to show her father just how well she had taken all his lessons to heart - right before tearing his heart out.

i've just realised how two of my most active ocs are so different yet very similar in how they subvert their respective tropes.

faerene takes something that is generally perceived as gruesome / offputting / evil (necromancy) but gives it a compassionate, benevolent, and wholesome twist (she adorns undead with flowers, hosts tea parties for them, uses mushrooms to animate corpses, and is generally very sweet and kind)

odetta does some of the worst imaginable things (being raised as part of a highly religious organisation to serve as a judge, jury and executioner, trained to kill without mercy, "sacrificing some to save many" kinda mentality, achieving the set goal no matter how any corpses left in her wake) but this is regarded as not only perfectly legal but a holy purpose (hunting down heretics and all those threatening the stability holding people together, effectively leaving all the moral compass questions behind), she's officially working for the "good" guys in her universe.

I wear that wool dress so much every winter, yet I still find new ways to coordinate it (most times, I don't take any pictures). Today is too cold for any pretty clothes, though.

that datv scene where harding takes emmrich on a camping trip but they also invite faerene and when it becomes obvious emmrich is about to lug whole 8 books around faerene just asks if he's bringing anything about the local fungi and he just goes "my dear I though to leave that to you, given your experience on the subject" and she beams up because yes of course she's bringing her mushroom books and also how lovely that he recognises her as the local mushroom girl enthusiast and how wonderful it is to have someone to talk to about mushrooms and harding is just there like: "you're bringing more books?!"

me: I need to play morrowind. I haven't played morrowind this year.

him: this year is what? 18 days old.

me: exactly. and I haven't played morrowind yet.

some of the things I sometimes like to do when I'm replaying a game is to wipe the steam achievements so I can earn them again 😌
