#the evil dead #1981 #horror imagery #eye horror #gore tw #sam raimi #bruce campbell #ellen sandweiss #betsy baker #richard demanincor #theresa tilly #tom sullivan #joseph loduca #rob tapert #ted raimi #american cinema #video nasty #evil deadology #horror film #thus spake the people. evil dead won my poll on which horror franchise to work through next‚ and somehow this was the one that I'd not seen #a single second of; the entire trilogy (and various follow ups) passed me by. i still felt like i was coming into this knowing it beat for #beat because of the inevitable cultural osmosis you get when a film is this influential and this popular; i knew the plot‚ i knew Ash‚ i #knew what to expect. what i didn't expect was quite how good this was. received wisdom had it that this was the rough first indie film that #was followed by better‚ more polished instalments but i have to say‚ taken on its own merits‚ this is a hell of an achievement #it's immediately apparent both that this isn't just another DIY splatter nasty made to cash in‚ and that right from the get go Raimi was a #highly creative and fiercely original talent. there's no reason‚ if making a cheapy gore film‚ for Raimi to be shooting from behind the #swinging pendulum of a grandfather clock‚ or to include genuinely sweet character moments like Ash and Linda playing a cute game of #avoiding glances whilst he gives her the pendant (and so wonderfully and so darkly inverted later‚ as her demonic form plays the same game #whilst he digs her grave). seriously messed up fx in places‚ very real sense of dread‚ absolutely phenomenal sound design #sometimes the classics are classics for a reason. an absolute masterclass in indie shock horror and a massively fun time

#fun fact my voice is also close to ht Lithuania UNLESS I am very pissed off #then my voice drastically becomes super low #and when I'm singing too #and in everyday life I have this 🌸✨️🌸✨️🌸✨️ aura around me while 99% of time I am thinking about killing stupid and cruel people #and i have giant eyebags and super slim figure because of the fucked up mental health due to ruzzian invasion...#thinking about my family's village which is famous for having “vikings heritage”#my great grandfather wanted to excavate a local landmark: a stone grave with an ancient cross.#he and his friends found a giant warrior there #with a huge sword #they got so scared that they just covered it all up and ran away #I WANT TO EXCAVATE IT AGAIN SO MUCHHHH #i am 99% sure that warrior was Baltic like come on what would Nordic vikings do in the swamps of Northern Ukraine #my village is honestly such a strange place... it's pagan #it has some Baltic and Asian heritage since like Golden Horde times #swamps and forests are such a well preserving place whatever the hell was going on there thousands of years ago still lives now #it's the jungles with scary people #it has some nasty history of incest too... and Christian sect...#it's a godforsaken place with NOTHING there except for the ancient graveyard and a couple of houses but FOR SOME REASON random people still #go to live there. and they die there. like why #u stoopid go get a job

after a night of boisterous fun i just got back from the local cemetery for some more solemn contemplation. said prayers for and made offerings to not just my own ancestors who are buried here but to the ancestors of my people in general.

#specifically i cleaned my grandfather's and grandmother's graves #lit a couple candles #then had a little brunch picnic #and i left some offerings of food and a few coins #and said a prayer and poured out some bourbon and tequila #now i'm back home #might go to a local parade #it's a celebration of the day of the dead and the dodgers' victory #later on i will prepare another feast and we will hopefully of another merry night #in remembrance and honor of our ancestors that came before us

two different rabbis directly to me + multiple places online: jewish imposter syndrome is real and is (to varying degrees) almost a universal experience in one way or another

me, who has been actively practicing for over nine months and taken multiple classes while also being halachically jewish by birth: i am the exception and am an imposter in jewish spaces and should feel bad about it. no i will not elaborate on why i believe this is true of me and no one else.

#to be clear NONE of this shame is being messaged to me by my shul #i’m just so insecure since i was raised religiously christian and only officially stopped attending church in 2020 #*february 2020 #even though i’d been drawn to judaism and deeply uncomfortable with christianity for years before that #and also had a degree of jewish identity through my family and celebrating holidays secularly growing up #i stayed as long as i did because 1) the liturgy was familiar #and 2) i’d be guaranteed to see my best friend once a week #converts have to go through a gauntlet. i feel like i’ve…cheated.#part of me wonders if i should pursue an affirmation #whether it would help i mean #but if i did my jewish grandfather would rise from the grave and say ‘YOU DON’T NEED IT BECAUSE YOU’RE PERFECTLY JEWISH AS YOU ARE’#on the other hand he was also an atheist and probably would have mixed feelings on me practicing at all #although i’m not the only grandkid who’s done so #two of my cousins (their mom is my mom’s sister) were raised catholic but switched to judaism at least 10 years ago #to my knowledge neither of them went through an affirmation process #ughhhhh #my posts #jumblr #i guess i did elaborate why in the tags huh

the internet is weird...I just found the house on zillow where my grandparents lived when my grandmother was so desperate she almost aborted my father...

#not them living three blocks from where my great grandfather was buried...#like my great grandmother burying her husband and then a few years later living in a house that's walking distance to his grave #and the family lore about my dad being so cowlicky my grandmother used to take him to the cemetery #they never said a thing about being the cemetery where her late husband was buried!#she was taking him there for a chat #also the kicker is it's a perfectly nice house on a nice street in milwaukee #it's going to be sad
