Is the son of one of Viago's legitimate half- siblings by an elven mistress. As a reminder that there is elf blood on the Antivan throne through the past bastards that seized it he was meant to be eliminated. Viago interfered because his princely brother had the audacity to hire second rate mercenaries instead lof the Crows for a murder in Antiva. Part of why Nico was kept out of sight from the other Crow houses until he was older is because he carries a striking resemblance to Viago.

Returns to Antiva and the Crows with the completion of his contract.

Roan Ingellvar (Harding) - Playthru incomplete

Has had mixed feelings about his elven heritage - his caretakers in the Mourn Watch never made it feel like a bad thing but his interactions with people from outside the Necropolis went badly. Was taught about elven traditions by spirits and from texts. Though he still cuts his hair in ways that mostly hide his ears it is now only out of habit. When he turned twenty he spent some time among a Dalish clan whose Keeper was friendly with the Mourn Watchers at Vorgoth's suggestion. He was granted the vallaslin for Falon'din before he returned to the Necropolis to take his Watcher Oaths.

Tripped over his own staff trying to be cool during introductions to Harding because he crushed hard from the get go. The feelings are full blown puppy love by the time of the ritual but he's desperately trying not to make things weird.

He bought Harding a small water color of the Hinterlands he found while trying to pick out presents to send home for Myrna and Vorgoth. It's still tucked in his grimoire because he hasn't figured out how to give it to her yet.

In some versions was found in the Necropolis under the care of the same spirits and undead as Ward and they were raised as brother.

Ward Ingellvar (Lucanis)

Throughout his childhood a lot of the spirits and undead he spoke with refused to call him by the name he'd been given and they instead referred to him as things like "Our Ward". When he grew out of that old name he figured he was already used to answering to it so he took Ward as his true name.

Wanted to have magic more than anything as a kid but the gifts didn't develop. He does sense fluctuations in the Veil and sometimes can key into where spirits are in a way most non-mages don't, but it's mostly practice and growing up from a young age in the Necropolis.

The ashen purple-grey of his hair isn't dye but a result of his early exposure to death magic as an infant.

Views Myrna and Vorgoth as parental figures but is too embarrassed to admit it to their faces. (The Lighthouse Crew found out when teasing him about being afraid of Caterina and he pointed out that Lucanis has to get Vorgoth's blessing.)

In some versions he's found and raised alongside Roan as siblings.

Spends most his time in life in Antiva, performing a Watcher's duty to helping spirits and putting the dead and demons to rest, though he still tries to visit home often. The Crows he cares for have strict instructions that his body is to return to the Necropolis to continue fulfilling his oaths of service when he passes.

Lori Laidir (Emmrich)

Was freed from slavery by Fenris who delivered the underfed skittish former slave to Isabela when it became clear that they needed camaraderie to survive and they were a little too keen to jump to setting things on fire and/or explosions as a solution

Lori transitioned with help from the Lords and views Isabela and the decent Lords as her family after all the care they gave during that time. (No one has any idea how Lori and Taash never crossed paths prior to the 6th Blight. But Taash immediately fell into "little sister" category for Lori.)

Doesn't actually care much about gold beyond enough to be comfortable. Most of her pay goes to helping others the Lords have taken under wing .

Was very charmed by Emmrich and immediately regretted asking for help flirting - as she'd never felt confident and safe enough to do so before - around the Hilt. Both because the bone jokes AND the lack of any actually useful advice.

One of her horns was broken during the dragon fight in Hossberg. She chooses amethyst for the replacement because it reminds her of Emmrich.

Offers her services as a treasure hunter to the Mourn Watch and moves to Nevarra to live full time when things are done. Still keeps her membership with the Lords and visits but she's happy to build a life exploring crypts and tombs with the Watchers.

Asha Thorne/Hawke (Bellara)

Formerly a Circle apprentice she ended up alone as a teenager during the Mage-Templar war and turned to thievery to survive.

Conscripted out of a prison by the Wardens she doesn't buy into the Order's reputation the way some do but she's very loyal to the friends she does have. She latched onto Evka as a mentor of sorts when she realized the normal way to be a Warden was never going to work.

Picked up a style of magic usage that was heavily influenced by Crow mages among the Wardens and then got extra lessons on dagger fighting from Lucanis to smooth her style out.

Came to view Varric as the father or older brother she'd never had during their travels. Takes the name 'Hawke' after the Sixth Blight at Hawke's suggestion because she says Varric had clearly been just as fond of her and they'd been talking about how to suggest bringing Rook into their family formally. (Asha's Varric and Hawke were in a relationship.)

Crushed hard on Bellara but failed to get the final romance scene because Bellara had been taken by Elgar'nan.

Splits her time between helping Bellara and the Veil Jumpers in Arlathan and rebuilding Kirkwall after things are done.

Ingunn Finndotten of Thorn Hold (Davrin)

Prefers to use "Rook Thorne" because it gets fewer strange looks in the North

Her mother is Chasind and her father is Avvar. She grew up in her father's hold. They're ridiculously in love. Also have a tendency to insist on sending Rook furs and honey because there's "no way she's finding good enough ones in the Anderfels". Evka and Antoine both have been gifted fur cloaks from her because of that. When things settle down Davrin and the rest of her new friends will almost certainly get the same treatment.

Joined the Wardens after she discovered a concentration of taint left from the Fifth Blight and was sickened, though she'd successfully destroyed the source. She was saved by the Joining ritual and then sent to Weisshaupt.

Befriended Antoine over discussions of the usefulness and applicability of explosives and other 'interesting devices of destruction'. Then picked up more Artificer tricks from Varric while traveling with him.

Finds it a little funny that she freaked Harding out a little the first time she called on Hakkon to guide her during a tough fight. Harding, in turn, finds it funny that Morrigan spooks Rook so bad because of the Witch of the Wilds thing.

Sometimes semi-jokingly refers to Assan as their hold-beast.

Lykos Mercar (Taash)

Named for an old dialect meaning "wolf" by his father when he was adopted in the hopes that some of the clever spirit and willingness to fight for freedom against the powerful that characterizes the stories of the Dread Wolf would help inspire his new infant son when life in the Imperium became difficult for him as an elf. It was something Lykos found funny as a Shadow Dragon, much less so when he was assigned to help hunt Solas.

The only boy and the only mage out of his siblings he's rather used to people being surprised and then disappointed when meeting "Charon Mercar's son". Can get very awkward about the dissonance of growing up as upperclass as a soporati family can get but also being an elf in Tevinter. Then adding his mage status to the mix.

His older sister was among the casualties from the Antaam invasion in Ventus, where she'd been a Templar. His younger sister is studying alchemical and natural sciences with plans to pursue a career as a surgeon. (Lykos brings her to visit the Lighthouse to spend time together once and doesn't get any sibling bonding time because she gets too excited to ask Emmrich questions and study how a skeleton moves without the meat bits in the way to see how the bones interact.)

He did his apprenticeship with a friend of his father who also happened to have been a supporter of the Lucerni. Lykos was rather annoyed when he put it together that he'd been manipulated into his audition by his teacher.

Lykos would have joined the military if he had been allowed to as an elf. The Shadow Dragons are his alternative method of serving Tevinter.

The only identification he had on him as an infant was a battered Grey Warden medallion with an inscription on the back that was too damaged to read.

Lykos grew up into a near mirror image of his biological father except for his eyes being amber instead of hazel. Morrigan was rather startled to see a much younger version of her old friend, the Warden Evander Tabris, the first time she spies Lykos. Lykos's mother had been among the elves sold to Tevinter by Loghain. She perished after getting her baby to freedom and leading the slave hunters away from where she had left him hoping the Maker would grant him a kinder fate.

Acheron Mercar (???) - Playthru Incomplete

Mid-to-late twenties

The youngest of four siblings. He has two older brothers who are twins and an older sister. All three dote on their baby brother. One of his brothers is a mage, the other is well on his way to following their father's footsteps as an infamous tactician in the military. His sister makes a career as a fashionable modiste to the very wealthy while also being a Shadow Dragon.

He was recruited when his sister needed another trustworthy fighter on a mission and Acheron was the only one available. She introduces him to Tarquin after. She hadn't wanted to involve her brother previously because of how dangerous it can be to make the sort of enemies that one can as a Shadow.

More will undoubtedly be added as I continue my play thru but he's still early game. Hasn't even met Lucanis yet.

(I have played a Veil Jumper but they never really solidified as a proper character instead of just a PC avatar.)

did we play the same game series. did we play the same games anon. because i really don't think we did. vivienne and cullen do not have the exact same views, and their experiences with the circle and chantry are VASTY different. cullen is a jailer and vivienne is a prisoner. of course i'm going to be more sympathetic to the person who has been forcibly subjected to circle life and traumatized from a young age to fear demons and magic than i am with cullen, who willingly became a templar and has been in constant positions of power over mages his entire life. what.

also let me reverse the question; if you like cullen, why don't you like vivienne? since their views are, apparently, the exact same.

Little more thoughts about Ogden to scribble down bc I forced him to sit down and tell me more about his family and history, which he hates doing because his birth family is a major sore spot for him for the following

He's from Starkhaven. He tries to speak with a trade tongue accent, though, since he spent time in the Ansburg Circle from the time he was around 12 to 20 and then from 20 until 36 he was a Warden.

His family is the Drumain family, a high ranking gentry family due to the trade network his grandfather built up. His family wanted to break into the nobility ranking, to have further influence in the city-state.

The goal was to have Ogden be a viable option for a noble to marry, due to intense training and education his family put him through from a young age, not really affording him a chance to be a child oftentimes. Affection was only given when he did something which pleased his parents, and was taken away in the blink of an eye if he did something they didn't like. Even on accident.

He was given lessons in Orlesian and Antivan, learning how to speak them near fluently due to the rigorous courses. His parents started to have him tutored in Tevene as well.

A lot of the pressure was put on him, as the oldest child. It was believed he could then open a door for his three younger sisters to marry affluently.

His parents mainly saw him as a pawn for their own ambitions, leaving him in the care of others while they would network and try to sell him off as a good option for marriage for nobles at parties. Sometimes dressing him up to show him off.

He never had a choice in what he wanted to do. It was always what his parents saw as best.

In a particularly stressful moment with preteen Ogden, he and his parents were in a screaming match about forcing him to go to an event he had no interest in going to. He was tired of being dragged around as if he were something to be sold. When his father raised a hand to strike him, his temper flared and the drapes caught on fire.

His parents were disgusted to find out their child was a mage and called him an abomination to his face. They gladly shipped him off to the templars and the Ansburg Circle, wanting their name to be scratched from his records and using their wealth to bribe the more isolated Ansburg Circle to do so.

He was just called Ogden then, until the Knight-Commander graciously titled him a thorn in his side, thus Ogden adopted the surname "Thorne" as a reminder to always prick the hand which was not gentle.

This year's OC-tober gimmick for me is stickers, so I don't have to think about backgrounds. I'll start by showing off my own clan Lavellan, we'll see how many days it takes until I run out of people!

Days 1 & 2 are Ess Lavellan, my inquisitor's 12-year-old cousin (freshly magical!) and her mom Tarel, the younger of Deshanna's two children.

“Just a bunch of boneless women flopping around,” she laughs, head thrown back as Emeric snarls, scolding her. Oh please, they’re dead. What’s the big deal?

It’s three years later and some change, when Bernadette Hawke is dropping to her knees, holding a body stitched together from different parts and staring at the dimming light that she knows what the big deal is.

Teddy, as she insists people call her, has never been a serious child. Her life was much to serious already, and her dreams were scary. Laughing and playing were much more fun than being serious.

Her mother, when Teddy was a child, appreciated it. But as the girl grew and her antics never dimmed, despaired.

“Oh who is this child?” Leandra would sigh. “Please be serious dear!”

“Oh what is there to be serious about?” Giggled Teddy each time.

Malcom found it funny though at times he would sit Teddy down to remind her that jokes weren’t always funny. She hadn’t understood it. Not really.

She wouldn’t for a long time.

Carver once told Teddy he wished her younger would fall out. He’d glared at his sister, face and neck red from the teasing Teddy gave him when she caught the boy sniffing Peaches.

“I can just heal it back on!” Teddy stuck said tongue out before running off with a laugh. She told no one about beating Peaches to an inch of her life when she caught the girl running around in Carver before healing her up, teeth bared and a hissed promise to make it worse next time.

Bethany cried and said Teddy should stop. She’d been so upset about Teddy making jokes about what the boys did behind woodsheds.

“Why?” Teddy asked. She didn’t tell anyone about how she had to make a boy seem like he’d fallen off the shed when he tried to drag her behind it.

“Bernadette!” Leandra shouted when Teddy made crass jokes about the Sisters in Lothering.

“Yes mother dear?” Teddy asked, not telling anyone she caught the sisters making the same jokes.

“Teddy, I’m sorry. Keep smiling,” Malcom told her when he had been forced to rip a demon out of his daughter and died fighting it.

She didn’t let the smile drop.

Varric understood a good joke. He was cracking them with Teddy within days of meeting. Isabela was up for a sex joke or a flirt. Merrill was adorably confused, Aveline sighed, Anders snorted, Sebastian acted scandalized even as his eyes twinkled and Fenris was… interesting.

He’d giggle under his breath or mutter a similar joke or he would roll his eyes and…

She didn’t know. Teddy liked it though. Shared all the best jokes with him.

“Why couldn’t you be normal. Like Carver?” Despaired Gamlen and the joke danced on her tongue only to be swallowed back.

She didn’t know.

Jokes were calming. Jokes were funny! Jokes…

Jokes were supposed to make her smile.

Merrill isn’t talking to her. The memory of refusing to give the tool to her, the memory of a Demon screaming in her skull… it burned. Though the elf girl was kind enough to bring food and take Bear out for a walk, the dog happy to finally move after days of being locked up, Teddy to drink to pay attention.

Fenris came by, carrying wine. They drank together.

She didn’t utter a single joke.

Feynril was Tranquil.

Fuck.

The joke was in her mouth, it was biting her tongue. It was screaming in her head.

She swallowed.

She fucked up.

Teddy slumped, sliding down to sit on the street as the screams of the woman she failed echoed out the house.

No one said anything to her.

What was she doing?

Mouth against mouth, skin against skin- lyirum burning in the air.

It’s a wild night. It’s a beautiful night.

It ends with him leaving and Teddy alone again. She clutches her hands to her chest and sobs.

It’s a mistake.

No it’s not.

It is and isn’t. She likes Anders. He’s kind, he’s sweet. His mouth is so soft and Teddy is…

Teddy aches from lyrium touches and wants soft ones.

She tells a joke while running through the Deep Roads. Anders throws his head back and laughs even as Justice rattles in his head.

Carver is sighing as Varric snickers. Isabela cackles and smiles and…

The jokes spill from her lips, with twinkling eyes and hysterical laughter that has her with her head between her knees soon enough.

She loves Anders. Fell in love with time and care.

She loves him and forgets about the lyrium touches. These touches are better.

“Teddy,” Anders says and it feels like she flies.

“I trust you.” Teddy says to Isabela.

It’s not enough. Teddy is not enough and she battles a man who looks down his nose at her with a sneer. Who calls her Bas and dangerous.

Teddy who watched her brother leave, not staying back to help. Leaving her to handle this on her own, who had a friend run off and not come back…

Doesn’t quite fucking care about the man.

The jokes fall and she closes her eyes as a title is granted.

No one talks about Isabela.

-

Teddy jokes again and again. She laughs more and more. Time heals, mostly.

She holds Anders hand and smiles.

-

Merrill smashes the mirror.

Teddy makes no jokes.

Blood Magic has been their argument for years. Teddy can’t stand it, the Demon never far from her mind. And then… and then…

“Mother!”

She feels for the girl, takes her into her arms and hugs.

But she’s glad it’s broken.

She works with Meredith even as her skin crawls. She gets dragged to help the Qunari and she vomits, feeling disgusted. (Bas, a head thrown at her feet, a sneer.)

Anders asks her to trust him and she does.

-

Fenris sister dies and Teddy sits with him, listening.

He’s broken. He’s tired. He’s not okay.

“You are the finest mage I know,” he says and his eyes…

She looks away as lyrium fills her mind.

That is in the past.

She drops her staff as the Chantry explodes. She stares up at the sky as Anders speaks. She looks at him, mouth dropping open.

“Why?”

“It is Justice.”

Teddy doesn’t joke much anymore.
