The Psychic (kinda, not really)
Dpxdc Prompt #4
holy shit i am so fucked right now
That's all that was on Duke Thomas's mind as he stood in the middle one of Bruce Wayne's (Batman! because apparently the butts do match) ball rooms, ready to be the entertainment for a gala.
how did my life ever come to this point?
At least he had an answer to that question. What do you get when you throw Danny Fenton and Duke Thomas together? An accurate psychic team that can bullshit their way into making enough money to keep themselves off the streets.
Honestly they hadn't really planned for it, but they made a pretty accurate psychic team. Danny could go invisible and intangible which was very helpful in gathering information about clients. He could talk to ghosts as well and if they weren't you know trying to attack him on sight (which was apparently a thing? that ghosts did to Danny?) they were pretty good sources of info. Finally, he new how to do all the generic psychic things like palm reading, tarot cards, tea leaves, ect.
"My friend Sam taught me!" he said, when they were realizing this plan could actually maybe work. "She never believed in it, i didn't, still don't, believe in it either but it could be useful if we actually decide to do it."
If Danny was the one with all the psychic knowledge where does Duke come in you may ask?
Danny couldn't tell a lie to save his life and couldn't get through a palm reading without bursting into laughter because of how crazy it sounded. Duke had a good poker face, learned quickly to lie on the street, and most importantly could see Danny when he was invisible thanks to his own meta ability.
They bought a tent, a deck of tarot cards, a cheap crystal ball (that was really just plastic), and some psychic-ish robes that were warm enough to double as blankets.
And so Danny and Duke started their farce, telling people scarily accurate visions and advice. They started getting invited to more events, high society ones at that, to serve as entertainment. They paid well (no matter how much the condescending nature of everyone attending irked Duke to no end) and everything was great.
They got an apartment, could actually eat 3 meals a day, and had a steady source of work.
Then Duke told someone who murdered their wife and the Bats were interested in him.
Duke and Danny, of course, didn't know this at the time so when they got invited to a gala at Bruce Wayne's (the richest man in Gotham) manor they accepted without a thought.
And then when Danny was scoping out the place after they arrived he found the Batcave because Bruce Wayne was Batman and invited Duke soley to investigate him.
Man did he wish that he could turn invisible like Danny. Maybe then Batman's piercing stare would go through him instead of straight at him.

Steddie Week 2024
July 1st Prompt: Secret Relationship
Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 | Day 7
@steddie-week
Part of what drew Steve to Eddie was his dramatics. His charisma, his hands flying everywhere, his bright, happy smiles and dark, narrowed eyes. His penchant for pulling a strand of hair in front of his face when he was embarrassed.
Eventually Steve learned he also pulled out that little trick when he’s turned on at an inopportune time.
They’re halfway through a movie in his trailer when he pulls a strand across his face, practically chewing on it as his gaze stays on the screen.
Steve snickers, breaking his concentration. “Really, babe?”
Eddie sends him a startled look, blinking a few times. “What?”
“What about this has you turned on?”
Eddie turns the color of a fire truck. Steve can’t look away. “It’s not- I didn’t- it’s not really that,” he mutters, looking down and shifting in his seat. “My brain ran off again.”
Steve puts a couple fingertips on Eddie’s jaw, gently guides his head up and over to look at Steve. He kisses him, hums when Eddie falls into it like he knew he would. “Tell me,” he murmurs, voice low.
Eddie swallows. “Um,” he says. “Okay, so it is kinda that? I was just thinkin’, like, how- how protective you are? And how you’d willingly do that? And how you kinda already do. For me. Because you think…” his throat clicks. “Because you think I’m worthy of it.” He shifts again, blush coming back full force. “And, uh, I was kinda remembering last time someone said something to me, and how you handled it, and fuck, Stevie, I was scared at the time so I didn’t really, like, process? But that was hot as hell, sweetheart-”
Steve pulls him into a kiss, laughing into it a little. “So if I were to say you’re not subtle in the least, and I already knew you like when I get like that, and if I maybe play it up a little for you-”
“Get your pants off,” Eddie says seriously, grabbing at the hem of Steve’s shirt. “Stevie, baby, I’m so serious, help me out here-”
They’re halfway through shedding clothes when the trailer door opens to reveal Wayne. He blinks, surprised, then turns around to shut and lock the door. “If I could see neither of you naked, that’d be ideal.” He sighs again as they scramble to put their clothes back on. “How long has this been happening?”
Eddie’s voice is small when he answers. “Um. Seven months?”
Wayne does the math. “Since you woke up.”
“Y-yeah.”
“Y’all decent?”
“Yeah.”
“Yes, sir.”
He turns to face them, raising a brow at the way Steve seated in front of Eddie, protectively. He watches the way Eddie tugs his hand, the way Steve turns to pay attention to him while keeping his eyes on what he deems the threat—Wayne. “He’s not gonna do anything,” Eddie murmurs.
“Like hell I’m not,” Wayne grumbles. “Imma get a beer. I’ve been waitin’ for the two o’ ya to get your heads outta your asses an’ you’re tellin’ me it’s been done for months already?” He shakes a teasing finger at Eddie. “You gotta tell me these things, boy, I ain’t no mind reader.” He grabs the beer, collapses onto his chair with a sigh. “Long as you don’t have sex anywhere I got reason to be, I don’t much care what you do,” he says, popping the can open. “‘M happy for you,” he says finally, softly. “I know why you didn’t tell me, folks can be stupid and blind when it comes t’this. Long as y’know y’got me on your side.”
“I know,” Eddie whispers, looking close to tears. Steve reaches for his hand, watching Wayne with an indescribable look on his face.
Wayne nods at him. “Y’love my boy?”
He watches as Steve takes a breath, centers himself. “Yessir.”
“Wayne. Sir was my fucko of a father.” He tilts his head at Steve. “I reckon y’know what that’s like.”
Steve nods. “I do… Wayne.”
Wayne nods back. “Good. So y’love him. I can tell from your eyes I ain’t gotta tell you what’s gonna happen if he breaks your heart.”
Steve shakes his head. “Whatever I end up doing to myself will be much worse than anything you can throw at me.”
Wayne nods. “Welcome to the family. In this house, sex happens in Eddie’s room or not at all.”
“Or the shower,” Eddie mutters, and Wayne rolls his eyes.
“Theodore Wayne-”
“Sorry,” Eddie says, but his grin says he’s not very sorry. Damn boy’s gonna be the end of him one day, he’s sure of it.
“An’ y’all know how t’be careful,” he surmises, “seein’ as how you been seein’ each other for the better part of a year an’ I’m jus’ now findin’ out about it.” He nods, thinks through the points he want to bring up. “I reckon if you can keep it down, it can happen while I’m home, but seein’ as the walls are made of damn cardboard, we’ll have to see ‘bout that one. Might hafta get earplugs or somethin’.”
That’s it, he thinks, so he turns to Steve. “Y’catch the game on Sunday?”
Steve’s eyes light up even as Eddie groans and tries to get his boyfriend up from the couch. “Okay, Wayne, thanks for not hating us, but we were kinda in the middle of something-”
“You can wait,” Steve says dismissively, pulling him back down on the couch. Wayne would say something, but he can see the way Eddie’s pupils dilate, even from way over here, and he takes a drink of beer instead. Some things don’t need to be voiced.
He thinks through everything they’ve said, everything their body language has said even when their mouths haven’t. “You haven’t told any of your friends yet.”
Steve and Eddie exchange a look. “Robin knows,” Steve admits. “Pretty much the moment it started. But no one else does.”
Wayne hums, takes another sip. “And what’s that Mayfield girl think about your car bein’ here at all hours of the day an’ night?”
Steve and Eddie exchange a look. “We… don’t know, actually.”
“Well, I suggest you tell her somethin’ soon.”
Steve nods, biting his lip. Eddie’s still lost in thought. “We will,” he says, shifting. “Um. Thank you for being so… understanding.”
“Well, considerin’ I don’t gotta get my hands dirty tryin’a get you two together, I’d say it worked out rather well, all things considered.”
Steve snickers. “I agree.”
Wayne nods to the TV. “What’re you watchin’?”
Steve blinks, like he’d just realized the TV was even on, and chuckles. “I have no idea,” he says honestly.
Wayne nods. “Grab a beer,” he suggests. “I’ll turn on baseball.”
Eddie groans. “I’ll be in my room.”
“Bring your campaign binder out here.”
“Fuck off!” Eddie calls from his room.
Steve snickers. “He was already planning on doing that.” He cracks open his beer. “Who’s on?”

Stan playing horsey adventure with his twins 💖
Tumblr media
We were going nuts over Cowboy Stan the other day and were making prompts about riding him XD The first draft that I made for this was actually funny cuz it was supposed to be a self insert of riding him on his back and go “ride like the wind, bullseye!” with one hand raised in the air lmao I made their expression so silly I suddenly thought about “oh man, this would look so cute with his twins, like Stan playing horsey adventures with his cowgirl princesses”. When I sketched the twins on his back I just had to junk my first draft cuz THEY LOOK SO FREAKIN CUTE!!!! 💖💖💖 oh my heart 💖💖💖 I aged up the twins a bit here, I guess them being around like 3-4 years old? I’m kinda using my godkid as my reference haha.
I honestly don’t understand the anatomy of this pose XD but I guess it turned out pretty okay? (I was having a bit of hard time drawing the pose) I kinda wish I drew the living room background cuz I bet it’ll look so cute with all the toys scattered around the room XD Now, I know Stan posing like this looks delicious, but let’s stay in fluff for a minute here XD
It actually also made me wonder if what would Stan want his kids to call him? Not really a headcanon, but I kinda like the idea of his kids calling him “Pa” like how he and Ford used to call their dad. (No Stan, you are nothing similar to Filbrick and you will never become like him. You’re gonna be the best fucking dad to your kids). I was having second thoughts cuz I remember in one of Ford’s dialogue telling Stan how he looks like their dad, yea the same man who disowned him and left him wander on the streets, yea him. I don’t want to hurt my pookie, but I just wonder if Stan might have some passing thoughts or worries like becoming like his dad or something in a way (sorry I’m honestly not good in explaining stuffs XD but you get the point XD)
ALSO kinda crazy cuz I’ve been thinking about how everyone has their own GF AU and I kinda wish I had one too, then when I was drawing Stan’s kids I realized like “dudeeee you have your own AU!!!!” like woah shit hell yeaaaa I do have my own XD I feel so pumped I could actually create a character design for his twins, some cute short comics and stuffs wow that would actually be fun haha 💖

Kinktober Day 4 🎃

Be fuckin good f’me and behave” he growled. In response to not being able to moan, the next time he hit that special spot inside you with an amount of force that made you see white stars behind your closed lids, you bit down on the flesh of his palm.

Tumblr media
The first time you’d bitten Carmy during sex, it was a total accident. He wasn’t really expecting it, neither were you, but it was a total turn on for the two of you.
He was impossibly deep, he had you in the back office of The Bear, after calling you for a little bit of stress relief, you were sprawled over his desk. He had your legs propped up on his shoulders, and had his palm pressed around your mouth.
“Tha’s it princess, god, needed this so fuckin bad. Only thing that’d make me feel better is this pussy, Christ it’s like a fuckin drug. Why would I ever need tha’shit when I got this wet, tight, warm fuckin pussy all f’me” he rambled on and on when he got like this. Nearly animalistic, it was almost your favorite way to have sex. He had no filter this way, almost like it was his therapy.
He was fucking you so hard the desk was nearly slamming into the wall. Luckily, the hectic, loud chaos of the kitchen masked your mid-Tuesday afternoon tryst beautifully. You nearly shout into his hand as he rubbed your clit with his left, which caused him to push his hand covering your mouth harder, and hush you by leaning in and saying
“D’you want Richie to open that door and see me bending you in half like the fucktoy you are cause he hears you whinin’ in here? Quiet. Be fuckin good f’me, and behave” he growled. In response to not being able to moan, the next time he hit that special spot inside you with an amount of force that made you see white stars behind your closed lids, you bit down on the flesh of his palm with fervor.
He hissed, pulling his hand away quickly and observing the red teeth marks on the flesh of his large palm and chuckles, using that same hand to spank you, leaving a red print on your ass that was glistening with your spit from your attack a few moments prior. “Did you just fuckin bite me? Naughty kitten” he chuckled as he continued fucking you absolutely stupid.
Tumblr media
Tonight though, you had more than explored your little…habit.
“Pleeeeease- please daddy” you begged, looking up at him with big, pleading doe eyes as he continues slow sensual strokes, in and out of you, watching your every reaction. This was his favorite way to fuck you, being able to absorb each and every mewl and moan you had to offer, make your spine arch off the bed while he played with your tits and thumbed over your nipples, ever enjoying the way that they bounced for him, and only him.
“Y’know- Y’re a brat sometimes” he said and you smirk as he pulled out, grabbing your calves and easily dragging you to the end of the bed before flipping you over so you were belly down on the mattress which made you giggle the way he was able to just pull you around with all the weightlifting he’d been doing lately.
“Most fuckin girls” he rambles as he thrusted inside of you, grunting softly at the tighter feeling that came with taking you from behind
“They jus’beeeeeg their boyfriends t’make fuckin love ‘er whatever, you?” He hoists you up with one bicep tucked around your throat, and his other forearm splayed across your ribs and stomach so he could rub your clit as begin fucking up into you ravenously.
“Just looooove bein’ fucked like my own little whore, mmm? How lucky am I baby?” You whine out a hot thank you, arching against him and bending your face down to get a nice mouthful of his bicep and moaning against the soft skin as you bit down on the toned muscle, relishing at the feeling of the soft inked skin in your mouth.
“Shit- fuck- Angel, S’fuckin pretty my god” he thrusted harder, driving on your god only knows how many orgasm tonight in tandem with his hand that was working at your clit with tight firm circles. “Mmm the way your pussy is suckin’ my cock right now holy shit- god babe- that’s it- thaaaaas’ it princess- cum on that fuckin cock- so fuckin hot” you didn’t even have to hold yourself up as he was doing that mostly for you, your thighs useless and quivering beneath you.
Your cheek was mushed on the wet spot where you had left reddened teeth marks, that would soon bruise to a pretty purple hue in the shape of your bite. “Tell me how much you fuckin love it- hm? Tell me how much you love this cock” He rubbed you slower, knowing you were sensitive from your last orgasm, dropping your head on his shoulder in bliss.
He took the opportunity to kiss your neck, biting down gently on your sweaty skin before sucking to leave a nice deep bruise and you whine, hand finding his hair and he chuckled into your skin.
“God I fuckin love it Carm - I love it when you mark me too- please please” you gasp, feeling his cock twitch at your words and his rhythm slightly begins to falter. He was close. “So fuckin deep I can feel you in my fuckin stomach can’t, oh- right there” you encourage, arching your hips into his and he grunts, jaw falling slack against your cheek and you felt his hot, warm pants against your jaw, his nose pressed to your temple.
“Yeah? Yea? Right there? Right fuckin there, huh? Don’worry bunny Daddy’s gonna fuckin’ take care of you- gonna make you cum one more time before I finish yea? You can do that f’me good girl, give me another one - my good fuckin girl” he pushed you down cheek first into the mattress, pinning your arm behind your back, moaning and whining as he felt you contracting around him.
You were nearly breathless as he pounded you from behind, even lifting his foot on the bed to get a better angle. “Oh - oh god” was all you could manage out, tears pricking at the corner of your eyes as another orgasm washed over you- even longer and more intense then the first since they were so close together.
“That’s it- that’s it- cum on my fuckin cock- ah-“ the next minute or so was a string of incoherent whines, profanity, whimpers, and moans as Carmy fucked himself through his orgasm, using your pussy to milk out each and every last drop of cum he had to offer after holding out for you so long tonight and once he was able to connect his brain to his mouth once again he said; “God, I fuckin love it when you bite me”

"You should not be doing this sort of work," Ingrith's voice scolded you, and when you turned, you saw the blonde woman standing with her hip cocked and a stern expression. "It's bad for your health to be in such filth, we've stable boys for this sort of chore."
"I do not mind," you sniffled in the brisk air, shoveling the horse shit of the stable into a muck bucket to be dumped into the fields later. "It keeps me busy," you grunted lightly, sure to bend your knees when lifting the pitchfork, "keeps me humble," you listed, dumping the waste to grin at your friend, "and keeps me young."
"In what way?"
"Reminds me of my childhood," you eased, continuing your work. "I slept in a stable from the ages of 4 to... Oh, shit, I guess I was about 16 before I left The Loft."
"What?" She breathed in confusion. "Never knew that."
"Yeah, yeah, true story," you beamed at her, still shoveling shit. "I slept in the stalls with the horses, sometimes in the grain rooms - basically anywhere I could since my work didn't include official room and board, so, I had to make do with what was available. Then, one day when I was about ten, Old Man Rivers said I could use the hay loft if I cleared it out, fixed the rotten planks. Stayed up there till I was about 16, and after that, I kinda ran away."
"Old Man Rivers?"
You nodded, "My mother lived on his homestead, but she was real sick, you see. So, he kinda took me in without assuming responsibility for me," you cleared your throat, shrugging, "let me stay in his barn if I worked with the horses and livestock for him."
"Why would you want to be reminded of that?"
"Seems simpler when I look back."
Ingrith sighed, "C'mon, put the pitchfork down. Come help me prepare the rabbits. The scouts say the men aren't too far off, they'll want a hot meal."
You chuckled with ease and set your pitchfork aside, giving a hearty pat to one of the horse's necks as you passed by to exit the stable. Ingrith made sure you washed up before you were both mounting rabbits on the rack to start skinning them.
"Could I ask something?" She wondered after a time.
"Anything you'd like."
"Why'd you run away? From Old Man Rivers?"
You laughed, "I was in love."
"Oh, you and Baby Monk go that far back, huh?"
"Try even farther," you teased. "Our mothers were friends, and when I worked in the stable, he was in the monastery, but when he came to me, saying he couldn't do it any longer, I couldn't let him go alone. Life was supposed to offer more than what we were given, so, we set out to find the legendary barbarian, The Dane Slayer," you teased, both giggling, "our Lord, the legendary, Uhtred of Bebbanburg."
"And all this time...?" She smiled, watching you shuck hide like you've done it your whole life. Ingrith inferred you probably did.
"Yeah," you eased, "all this time, he's been by my side. Kept me close, never left me behind. The others weren't too sure about me on account of being a woman, they told us to piss off a few times - but they came around after Osferth refused to send me away."
"He's a good lad, Osferth," she nodded.
"Arguably one of the best ones," you agreed, nudging her arm gently, "but look who I'm telling, right?"
"Oh!" She giggled, swatting at you loosely before going back to your work for a moment. Suddenly, the townspeople of Rumcofa stirred to life, and over the voices, you heard them announcing their Lord's return - which meant all of your men were home. You both grinned and breathlessly left your post, Ingrith pausing a young lad to ask, "How many return to us?"
"Does it matter? Come, c'mon, let us see ourselves!" You all but squealed, overwhelmed with excitment; eager for your own reunion with the man you've loved since you were a young lass.
"Warn the alehouse!" Finan was heard shouting. "Osferth's thirsty!"
"Jesus," you laughed, dodging around the procession of people waiting to greet their warriors on their return home so you could approach the white gelding your husband rode.
His face was absolutely priceless when he caught sight of you. As Osferth eagerly dismounted, your hands smoothed over the small swell of your belly - purposefully wearing a dress that accentuated your ever-changing figure. "Am I dreaming?" He laughed, a stablehand taking hold of his horse so his hands were free to caress your belly. "Oh, my God, I'm not, 's real, oh, God," he beamed, laughing with you. "You're pregnant? Truly? Yes? I-I am not - I am not being deceived?"
"No, my love, I guess our prayers were finally heard."
"OH-HOOOO!" You heard Finan holler as Osferth finally pulled you in for a sweet kiss; both ignoring the Irishman. "Lord! LORD! Uhtred! Hey! Did you hear!? Baby Monk's got some spunk in 'im afta all!"
"Oh, God," you laughed against Osferth's lips, but he was quick to shush you with another breath-stealing kiss.
"A baby Baby Monk! AHA!" Finan was still laughing, your husband's hands caressing both your cheeks when he pulled back just in time for Finan to descend. You grunted lightly when his heavy arms dropped over both yours and Osferth's shoulders, his laugh still booming as he gave a squeeze and cooed, "Oh, congratulations, yah two love birds! Wasn't sure you had it innyah, boy!"
"Don't be so rough with her, Finan, for God's sake," Osferth scolded, nudging his friend to get out from under his arm.
"What?" Finan looked at you gobsmacked. "Sayin' I gotta treat yah different now or somethin'?"
"I didn't say that," you told him prettily with fluttering lashes, fist quickly balling up to jab him in the weak spot of his armor - making him grunt and wheeze. "Aht-aht!" You warned with a pointed finger when he flinched as if to retaliate, "Can't hit a pregnant woman."
"Oh, yeh li'l shite," Finan laughed, Osferth pushing him towards his wife so he could stand in front of you and command all attention.
Osferth took a moment to simply look at you; thumbs gently tracing over your cheeks in sweeping motions, a slow grin breaking across his lips. "This almost doesn't feel real... But how I have to praise God for this blessing. A baby," he breathed.
"A little you and me," you agreed softly. "Sound okay to you?"
"More than okay," he chuckled, pecking your lips, "sounds like a lifetime together."
"Good by me." His nose nuzzled up yours, the sweet moment broken when he sighed sadly; eyes shut and smile dropping. "What is it? What's wrong, love?" You asked, stepping into his embrace so you were nuzzled into his neck and his arms were wrapped around your form in a vice.
"Uhtred means to move us again," he whispered in your ear. "Brida, she... She's got Father Pyrlig, and - "
"What!?" You snapped, rearing back slightly to pin him under your hardened glare. Pregnancy hormones would surely give Osferth whiplash.
"My love, I did not - "
"Brida's got Pyrlig? Fuck are we standin' here for, let's go!" You reached for his hand, ready to march off.
"Uh, no, no, no, no," he pulled you back to him; anchoring his hands on your hips so you could not escape. "You are not going anywhere. Not now - especially now," he glanced at your still-growing bump. "The men will go, you know we will return, but you have this new responsibility, and that's keeping this little one safe. For us," he smiled at you.
You huffed, "I'm not unfit to do what needs done, Osferth."
"I did not say you were unfit, but look at the timing of it," he frowned. "I should've been here when you learned, but I was not, and I am truly so sorry for it. Look, I do not know how long this venture will be, but you know I will return. We've waited for our family for far too long, I will not jeopardize this - so I will return. If you go with us, and something were to happen," he shook his head, "my angel, I would never forgive myself. So I need you to stay here, stay safe, if for nothing else but for me."
"But Pyrlig - "
"Will be saved," he assured.
"And Brida - "
"Will be dealt with," he eased, chuckling lightly. "My angel, you worry too much about everyone and yet never about yourself."
You pouted, "Well, why is it just me meant to stay back? This is your child, too, Osferth, and should have the right to meet them! You can't always control what happens, accidents are real, what if you don't return - "
"Don't think like that - "
"But it's a real threat to us - "
He agreed, "Of course, but - "
"Yeah, I know," you nodded, cutting him off, "we serve Lord Uhtred. This comes first, and I'm not - "
"I've made a vow to him."
"You made one to me, too, you know."
"Angel, please, don't do this. Do not ask me to choose," he begged with a frown, and you caved.
So, with a sigh, you nuzzled into his embrace and relented, "All right, yes, fine, go after Brida and Pyrlig. And when you find them, tell him I am waiting for his safe return, he is dearly missed. Ideally, I'd have him birth our child."
"Of course," he breathed, finding a small reprieve of relief that you did not fight him further about leaving - about choosing which vow to fulfill: the one to his Lord Uhtred or the one to his wife.
Both made to God.
Luckily, Osferth married his best friend and you were never one to pick fights with him. You liked the harmony you had; the peaceful environment you had both cultivated to preserve the trust and love you built through the years. He was genuinely one of a kind; a man who walked many lines between faith, humanity, right, wrong. He was the voice of reason, constantly striving to do better than he did before, learning all he could as if a rag soaking in water. For all he was, Osferth has always been enough for you, and for that reason alone, you never felt the need to argue.
To fight. To voice contempt.
"Question," you perked up, smirking at him as your pregnancy symptoms ran a little wild, "think we've time to, you know, really give our thanks?"
"Angel - "
"What?" You grinned. "You fucked me on the alter all those weeks ago and look - your seed stuck. We might as well go give thanks in the same manner, just to really show God how thankful we are for this blessing he's given us."
"Think the Devil's gotten into you," he laughed.
"Or your child is ruining my hormones," you countered, his lips meeting yours in another passionate display of his excitement.
"C'mon," he whispered, taking your hand, and leading you to the chapel - thinking you were being sneaky, but your matching giggles made Ingrith and Finan beam at each other.
"He does know she can't get more pregnant, right?" Finan teased, flinching when Ingrith smacked his upper arm.
Tumblr media
"WHY!?"
"My angel, please - "
"What the fuck is going on, Osferth!?"
"I'm trying to explain - "
"The Queen? The fucking Queen is dead in our village! How can that possibly be explained!?" When Osferth didn't answer, just sat in the wooden chair before the shared hearth of your humble home, you snapped, "Well!?"
"Are you finished? May I speak now?"
With a huff, you nodded and gestured for him to speak; arms crossing around your swollen tits. He explained to you the reason for Haesten's arrival, the wagon his men toted, and why he brought the Queen's dead body to the settlement of Rumcofa. He told you Haesten wanted to keep the peace when King Edward found out, claiming Uhtred's son-in-law, Stiorra's husband, Sigtryggr, had ordered this death - thinking war would surely roll over his lands.
You never knew Haesten to be a generous man, nor much of an honest one, but it seemed the severity of the situation made everyone eerily on-edge. Uhtred dispatched his men; leaving Finan and Osferth in the village with you, developing a plan that would save both Saxon and Danish life. And yet, it was all futile when evil forces worked against good.
You didn't feel safe in Rumcofa anymore, there was a stench in the air; tension that mounted to embrace all residents with discomfort. Something was about to happen, but nobody knew what. You didn't claim or pretend to know what was happening, but Haesten's abrupt appearance spelled danger for everyone involved. So, as a security measure, you kept a long sword buckled around your swelling waist and a dagger strapped under your skirts. With Lord Uhtred gone, there was no invisible fence protecting Rumcofa - leaving it up to you, Osferth, Finan, and Cynleaf to pose as guard.
Yet you'd never be enough.
Like the surf over sand, a group of angered men descended on Rumcofa. "Who's men are yah?" Finan asked, you lingering at Osferth's side to watch the interaction from a short distance.
"We come from the King," a burly Saxon replied, your head cocking in interest - swearing you've seen him before. "Dane murderers are hiding here and you must hand them over."
"You're mistaken, sir," you kindly offered, the man's eyes shifting over you, "because we live in peace. Any murderers have surely moved on from here. We do not host them."
The man growled, "Don't think that's true, love."
Finan held a hand back at you, meeting your eyes and nodding simply. He turned back for the man in fur, diverting, "Of course, my men will attend to it."
Finan turned from the group, his eyes connecting with yours as he passed by. There was urgency, a quickened pace he adopted; having no intention to hand anyone over, wanting to remove these men without bloodshed. However, that was a distant thought because Father Benedict tried to assure the Saxon leader that nobody in Rumcofa would murder Queen Aelflaed.
You wanted to step in when the Saxon evidently didn't know about the Queen's demise - getting in Benedict's face and demanding to see what he spoke of.
"No, no, no," you muttered nervously, "he can't see the body, love, no, no, no, this is bad. Very bad."
"We can't stop Father Benedict without altercation," Osferth whispered back, keeping a tight hold of your hand, just watching the group. "If something happens, you need to get yourself safe."
"How do we truly know they're from Edward? What credentials do they have?" When Osferth shook his head, you worried, "Got a bad feeling 'bout this, angel."
Then the violence began.
The strange men took charge when their leader walked away, starting to physically harass the citizens; making both you and Osferth step in to try and diffuse the tension. You pushed men off unarmed women, got in between them and the children, did what you could without drawing a weapon.
When a man shoved you away from him, Finan wrangled him away, sneering, "Get yer hands off of her!" He kept the violent men at bay for a moment, telling you, "You need to go, darling - "
"Not now, Fin, look around us! We need to contain the situation, you'll need all hands you can get," You snapped, the two of you forced to part way.
Osferth panted nervously and looked left and right, turning to meet the Saxon and demand, "Tell your men to stand down!" But then, his eyes squinted when you joined his side to pull him back a step or two, recognizing him just as you did.
"I don't think they're here for the Queen, love," you heaved for breath in warning, still backing him up. "They've planned this."
"Finan!" Osferth barked, "These men have been here before!"
The Saxon roared over the fray, "Danes of Rumcofa have murdered our Queen!" His men jeered in anger, making Finan brandish both swords and for Osferth to push you back further from the attention. "Do your duty and rid the cockles from the wheat!"
You were left no choice. Osferth and you both armed yourselves, starting to fight off the Saxons as their leader demanded Danes and Christians be separated. You were unable to help, engaged in battle, but Young Uhtred gathered the Danes and begged Father Benedict to declare the church a sanctuary - thinking it would save lives.
It was only leading the Danes to slaughter.
The Saxon, Bresal, punched Father Benedict when he tried to stand in the way; his men holding Young Uhtred in the doorway to let their men enter the church the Danes were gathered in. They forced Young Uhtred to watch the massacre - men, women, and Danish children all slaughtered with no escape. No hope. No answer to a single prayer. Nobody to stop this bloody situation.
You fought on, Osferth, Finan, and Cynleaf doing their best to protect you by keeping you in the middle of their wee group. But you still got plenty of action.
"This is madness!" You cried out, slicing a man's throat open. "We need aid! We need more men!"
"This way!" Finan encouraged, "We must cut a path for Ingrith! Check the docks! Check the docks!"
You and Osferth ran towards the water, Cynleaf not far away. You searched for Ingrith, but you had no time to linger; engaged one-on-one again, forced to protect yourself and unborn baby. Not a minute later, you saw Ingrith on horseback, being stalled by a Saxon and for your husband to rush to her aid. He punched the man away from the horse, you hacking at another enemy, in time to see Osferth engaging with two Saxons - one being the leader, Bresal.
It all happened so fast.
You were already racing towards them when the unexpected. Osferth was battling on two fronts, holding Bresal at bay, fending off the other Saxon, screaming for Ingrith, who only managed a few paces before the Saxon's dogs spooked her horse. The noise was deafening; people screaming, crying, dogs barking, horses whinnying, swords singing as they clashed.
You watched it happen in slow motion.
You sprinted faster than ever before.
"INGRITH!" Osferth bellowed in worry when her horse reared back and dropped her to the dirt. It left an opening for Bresal to stab his dagger into Osferth's lung - freezing time and wrecking your world.
"NO!" You screamed, Bresal smirking at you and yanking his dagger free. Osferth wobbled, eyes wide as he met yours, the Saxon walking away as Osferth dropped to his knees. "No, no, no, no, no, no, no! Oh, God, no, no, you can't take him - not yet! Please, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no," You repeated, sliding on your knees in the dirt to catch him. "No, no, oh, my God, no, Osferth, no, please! Not now, not now, please, no, God, no! Don't do this! Please, please, please," you rambled, readjusting to better hold him, hearing Cynleaf and Finan yell for Baby Monk, too. You raged at God, "You can't take him yet! You can't have him! He's mine!"
But you heard nothing except your husband's labored breathing.
"An-Angel, angel, my angel," Osferth choked, wheezing and crying as he couldn't hold himself up and completely slumped back into your body. He pawed at your arms in an attempt to get closer.
"No, no, no, you're all right, you're okay, you're okay, my sweet love, you're all right," you insisted, hands stained in his blood as it poured from his wound. You knew it was essential to add pressure to a wound, but also, that this was all futile. Yet you needed to try. "Hey, hey, hey, look at me, just look at me, sweetheart, please, only look at me, nothing else matters," you pleaded with him in a rush, the lads sprinting to where you held your husband to your lap.
Nobody interrupted you.
"Where's the wound?" Osferth sobbed, trembling, blood spurting from his mouth; going paler by the minute. "Angel, please, the wound? Where's the wound?"
"No, no, no, don't worry 'bout that, hey? Don't you worry, you just keep looking at me," you sobbed, holding his neck and cradling him to your swollen belly. "Just at me, my love, okay? Just look at me - don't look anywhere else, okay? Nothing else matters."
"H-How bad? How ba-ba-bad-bad is i-it?"
"You're going to be all right," you lied to Osferth for the first time.
"Oh, my God, oh, my God," Osferth repeated through his tears and fears, "I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die."
He held onto you desperately, sobbing, you slowly rocking. "No, you're all right, Osferth, it's okay, just look at me." You caressed his cheek, smearing blood, but locking eyes. "My love," you whispered, "listen to me - "
"I don't wanna die, please, please, angel, my love, please," he coughed, holding your arm tightly as if it would give him life. "Don't let me die," he wheezed, "don't let me die, my love, please, please. Don't let me die, I don't wanna die. I-I wanna meet our baby, please, I want to meet our baby, I want to be a father. Don't let me die, love, please, I-I wanna be your husband longer - "
"You'll never not be my husband and you'll never not be a father, hear me?" You sniffled, trying to smile at him. "Don't you worry, you're gonna be okay, you're okay, Osferth. You'll always be my husband, nothing will change that - I swear."
Blood pumped with each beat of his frantic heart, making it gush over your fingers. You didn't even feel it.
"Please," he choked, more blood bubbling from his lips, "don't let me die, I don't wanna die. Don't let me die, please, not now, not when our baby isn't here yet, please, I just wanna meet 'em, be a family, I wanna stay with you, don't let me go. Please, don't let me go, I don't want t'go! Don't let me - "
"Shh, it's okay, you're okay. I'm here with you. I'm right here, Osferth, you're not alone, you're never alone. I'm here. I've got you. I'll always have you, I won't ever let you go. Never."
He sobbed harder. "I don't wanna leave you. Please, I don't wanna go, I don't wanna be without you - " But the words choked him, a splatter spraying across your face when he coughed; you didn't even flinch.
"Listen to me," you begged, "I commend you, my dear, sweet husband, to Almighty God, and entrust you to your Creator."
Finan was heard behind you, retching jarring sobs as you read Osferth his death rite prayer. "Don't let me die," Osferth begged still, as if you held that power.
He had always looked at you as if you hung the sun and stars, and now, as if you were his very reason for living. You hated God in that moment for forcing you two through this.
"May you return to Him who formed you from the dust of the earth. May Holy Mary, the angels," now, you choked on your words, emotion clawing your throat, but still continued, "and all the saints come to meet you as you go forth from this life. May Christ who was crucified for you bring you freedom and peace." You sobbed, "May Christ who died for you admit you into His garden of paradise. May Christ, the true Shepherd, acknowledge you as one of His flock. May He forgive all your sins, and set you among those He has chosen. Amen. Please, please, say amen, Osferth, say it, please!"
"A-Amen - Amen!" He coughed, trying to get closer to you, nestling into your warmth as he felt impossibly cold. "Don't leave me, don't leave me, please, please, I don't wanna go, I don't wanna be alone. I can't go without you, please, don't let me go - don't let me die, angel, please, I can't go without you. I-I’ve never been without you my whole life, I don’t wish to start now. I love you. I-I love you, please, don't let me go, I love you. I need you."
"You'll never be without me," you promised, face coated in blood, grime, dirt, and ash; all streaked with your tear tracks. "You will always be my husband, hey? Hear me? You're always gonna be with me, I will never be apart from you. I'll love you forever, Osferth, I won't ever stop." You felt your chest cave in as you sobbed, "Please, don't you leave me - "
But Osferth was wheezing and panting, only staring up at you. "I only need you," he whimpered, "I've only ever needed you, I can't do this without you. Please, I can't - I can't go without you. I don't want to leave you, I can't leave you, please!'
"So don't leave me," you sobbed, him still clawing at you in desperation. "I love you more than life, Osferth, please, don't leave me, okay? Don't go. I love you so much. Being loved by you was my greatest pleasure in this life, I want our child to know your love, too, Osferth, please, don't go."
"I-I wanna meet our baby, I wanna hold 'em, love 'em," he repeated. "Please, this can't be the end, don't let this be the end. W-We have so much more - we were supposed to have eternity together, my love, my angel, please! This isn't the end, I can't - I can't go without you!"
"You're okay," you soothed uselessly, rocking more prominently. "Just stay with me, my love, okay? Stay with me. Don't go. Only look at me, all right? You hear me?" You sniffled, caressing his cheek. "You're the best thing in my life, Osferth, yeah? Understand me? Where you're going, y-you'll be welcomed a hero, with open arms. You'll be my own angel. My real angel. The reason I keep going for our child. An-And you'll stay there just for a little while until I join you, okay? You'll watch over us, me and the baby, right? Our own angel? Hey? 'Cause you'll never be part from us - you'll never be apart from me. You and I are a forever sorta thing, we'll never be apart, we'll always be part of each other no matter what."
Osferth lost his words, eyes widening and pulling you closer.
You just soothed, "I'm here with you, my love. I'm here, I've got you. You're not alone, I'm right here, I have you. I've got you. I love you. I love you so fucking much, Osferth, okay? I love you more than anything, you're my everything. I love you," you sniffled, breaking down in worse sobs, repeating, "I love you, I love you, I love you so much, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry I wasn't faster, I love you, this shouldn't be happening. I'm so sorry, I should've come faster! I love you, I'm so sorry."
With his last breath, Osferth choked, "L-Love y-y-you."
"I love you," you hushed, bending at the waist to rest your forehead on his, "I love you so much. You're gonna be okay, you're gonna be all right, you'll be safe - where you're going, you'll be safe. I'm so sorry, my love... I'm so sorry."
You felt him go still. You felt the last of his breath exhale, his body deflate. You felt his soul detach from his body.
You froze.
"Oh, my God," you breathed, pulling back to look down at his petrified features. "Oh, my God, no, no, no. God, please, please, give him back," you sobbed, "give him back to me! Do not take him! It's not his time, you selfish cunt! Give him back! It wasn't supposed to end like this! Give him back to me, please! Please! This isn't how this was supposed to happen! We promised eternity together, please! Let us have that! Let us be together, give him back to me! I need him!"
Your shrill hysterics were heard all over Rumcofa.
Finan sobbed into his wife's arms behind you, Cynleaf knelt to slowly extend his hand onto your shoulder. "I'm so sorry," he offered, but you pushed him away harshly; knocking him into the dirt.
"No! I don't want your fucking condolences!" You snapped, holding Osferth tighter, "I want my husband! I want my husband back! Can you give him to me? Can you, Cynleaf? Can you give him back to me!?"
"No - "
"Then you have nothing to offer me! I want nothing else, nothing from you! I only want him!" You looked away from the young lad, finding Osferth's wide open eyes staring up at you. You whimpered, "I only need him, so, please. Please, give him back to me. Please. I need him, I need him, I can't do this without him, please, God, don't do this. You take so many lives, why add him to the mix!? Give him back! C'mon," you begged the cooling body, "c'mon, love, get up. Get up for me, please, just wake up. Come back to me, get up... Get up, Osferth, get up! Please! WAKE UP!"
But Osferth never moved. Never blinked. Never drew breath. And God never answered your pleas. Your dress was saturated in your husband's blood; a pooling puddle seeping into your knees, bodice drenched, his baby moving in your belly. You wailed into the still air, holding your husband tight to your chest; mouth agape to release the terrible screams of anguish, tears never ending, rocking on your knees. You didn't know what to feel... But devastation was prominent.
You wept until your throat went raw, jaw tender from your open mouth. "I'm so sorry!" You repeated, "I should've been quicker! I should've been at your side! You shouldn't have been alone! This is my fault! This is all my fault, I shouldn't have been away from you. I should've been with you, you did not deserve this end. Please! Forgive me, wherever you are, forgive me, I did not intend for this, I shouldn't have left you, I should've been at your side, I'm so sorry. This is all my fault, I'm so sorry."
"No," Ingrith whispered, "no, do not say this is your fault, you did nothing - "
"Exactly!" You snapped at her, eyes ablaze, her husband silent. "I did nothing, I wasn't with him! I wasn't where I was supposed to be! And he was stabbed because of you!"
Finan whispered your name in reprimand.
"No! How many times have you rode a fucking horse, Ingrith!? And now, today, the time it truly matters, you fall; you posed distraction," you sobbed, crumpling in on yourself. "He was distracted by your fall... This shouldn't've happened, this is all wrong!"
The trio just watched you, knowing your emotions were raw and unwavering, that your words did not have meaning because your husband had just died in your arms. Hours passed, you did not move. Hours passed, your husband did not return. Hours passed, and your heart shattered with each passing breath you selfishly drew.
Because living felt selfish now without Osferth.
"Sweet one," Finan whispered, the sun setting, "we should move him. Bring him to the church so Benedict can pray."
Your head shook, "No."
"Darlin', we have to - "
"No," you whimpered, "because if you take him to Benedict, it's real. If we move, he's truly gone... He can't be gone, Finan," you sobbed, meeting your friend's eyes. "If you move him, he's gone, I'm not ready to say goodbye, please. Please, don't take him from me."
"I'm so sorry," he whispered, "but he should be laid to rest."
"Don't take him from me," you begged, a new wave of tears starting. "I just - we were supposed to be a family. We were supposed to have this baby, and now, it's just me? This cannot be, so please, don't take him from me, I only need him back. Give him back to me, Finan, please, I can't be without him."
"I know," he nodded, gently encouraging you into his embrace. It meant you had to let go of Osferth, something you did slowly and gradually, leaning into the Irishman's chest. "All right, I got yah," he whispered, looking to his wife. "C'mon, stand with Ingrith. I'll carry him."
"Be gentle," you sobbed, feeling Ingrith grip your arms to help heave you to your feet; watching Finan scoop Osferth over his shoulder. The change of position made more blood splatter to the dirt, your heart stalling in your chest when you heard the mess.
You felt your soul shriveled and hidden somewhere deep in your chest, following as if in a trance. You watched Finan and Cynleaf slowly lower Osferth to the ground with the other dead Danes, feeling yourself drop to the ground in shock.
Seeing Osferth amongst the dead made it so much more real.
"It's all my fault," you sobbed, Finan moving to your side, "it's all my fault, I got him killed. I should've been quicker. This is my fault, my fault, I did this, 's my fault."
Finan knelt beside you, bringing your foreheads together to hold you tightly and let you sob into his embrace. "You didn't do this," he promised, "you did nothing wrong. You are not at fault. Do not carry this guilt."
You sobbed without reprieve.
Young Uhtred halted Father Benedict from praying over the Danes, telling the older man they had different customs, but looked back at you. He asked your name softly, wondering, "Do you wish for a prayer for... Him?"
Even Young Uhtred couldn't stomach the truth, avoiding using Osferth's name out of sheer disbelief.
"That'd be nice," Finan agreed, turning to sit beside you and hold you under his arm. You leaned into his embrace, head to his shoulder. "She read him his death rites when... It happened."
Young Uhtred nodded, bowing his head, leading, "Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, On earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
Then, you joined from under Finan's heavy arm, sobbing through your words, "Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death."
Benedict finished, "Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end."
Together, you, Ingrith, Young Uhtred, Benedict, Finan, and even Cynleaf ended, "Amen."
Feeling the most level-headed, Ingrith stepped in and directed the men; informing that Young Uhtred should lead the remaining Danes to Daneland, Finan and Cynleaf would meet Uhtred on the road, and she would accompany you to Wessex - where Osferth could be laid to rest at the place of his birth. Then, the people mourned together for their fallen.
Finan disagreed initially, telling his wife you were his responsibility now that Osferth was passed. But there was no way you could continue with the company, not in your pregnant state. Finan didn't like the idea of you being without him, considering you close to a sister; something of a best mate, someone he couldn't turn his back on - no matter the situation. However, he understood the predicament and finally agreed to part ways, but not before he untied Osferth's crucifix and latched it around your neck. At the gates of Rumcofa, before separating, Finan gifted you his rosary; thinking it might bring comfort in his physical absence.
Years from then, you would bring up a single son named Gabriel (a name your husband favored, a name benefitting an Angel) under Lord Uhtred in his birthplace of Bebbanburg. You never remarried. You never even so much as looked after another man with lust. Gabriel would grow into a handsome warrior and a devoted man of God, satisfied on tales about his father; being painted as a man of honor, integrity, and bravery. Osferth, too, was a man of God, a man of the sword, and a man of his word... Until the very end. And when your time came, you were brought back to Wessex to be laid to rest with your husband; your son having a son, naming him Osferth, and knowing, both his parents shined down on him in pride.
It was a comfort for everyone to know, somewhere in the afterlife, in God's warmth, you and Osferth were reunited; looking just as you did the day you parted from one another.

This is honestly my first time requesting anything so I'm kinda nervous ngl lol.
May I request some HCs with Dan Heng, Jing Yuan and/or Blade with a GN Reader who dislikes physical touches? As in, if someone hugs them and grabs their arm they recoil as fast as they can because they're uncomfortable? And will only be okay with physical affection when it's needed or if it's their partner?
Thank you for possibly considering this request, and have a good day or night :)
* pairing(s) : various hsr men (4) x gender neutral reader
* prompt : request ♡
* authors note : this request is SO me-core, as someone who's horrible with physical touch, i think im the best candidate for this /j thank you for the req and i'm honored im your first! this is really messy, im sorry T.T
Tumblr media
DAN HENG was one of the first people to notice your discomfort with physical touch when you joined the Astral Express. March 7th tried to cling onto you, but instinctively you moved out of her way. (and admittedly almost made her stumble and fall doing so.) Profusely apologizing for that little accident, but you never really let people hold onto you.
So when you two got together, Dan Heng was pleasantly surprised with how clingy you really were. Whenever he was working in the Archives, the arms wrapping his waist and leaning on his back couldn't have been anyone else, he didn't wanna ask or point it out, just incase you would've been embarrassed or awkward about it.
Not only giving, but receiving. You used to refuse any form of physical touch but now the way he holds you in his arms is a blessing. You fit so perfectly, like you were meant for him, and he's so glad that you are. He helped you learn to love touch, and you helped him realize he loved to touch.
Tumblr media
"I'll be there after work, I promise." You remember JING YUAN saying, and you told yourself you could survive a few hours waiting for him. So there you waited patiently, sitting alone on one of the outdoor tables by the restaurant you planned the date on.
It was almost time for him to arrive, and you were just happy you'd be seeing him soon, but you hear a throat clear behind you. You put your left arm by the back of your seat and turn around. "Hello there!" The man asked, a friendly smile on his face but something felt odd about it. A sixth sense intuition that somehow he didn't have the best intentions.
"You seem to be alone," Oh no. "I can give you a much better time." You force a laugh, flicking your wrist while doing so. "It's quite alright, he'll be arriving any minute now." And that seems to annoy the man, his kindness running thin. "Listen, he's clearly not interested-"
His hand goes up to grab your arm on the chair, but in one swift movement, you stand up and pull away. "Please. Do not touch me so casually." You say sternly, sending a glare towards the stranger. But the familiar feeling of a hand around your waist calms you down, you look at your boyfriend, who looks back at you apologetically. The man had long left, realizing who he may or may not have pissed off.
"I'm sorry I couldn't have arrived sooner." He says with a tired sigh. "It's alright, I'm glad you're here."
Tumblr media
BLADE doesn't exactly care nor mind, he wasn't much of a touchy person either. But he'll do the little things like locking arms or letting you hold onto him.
He will get annoyed and maybe even confront people when it comes to situations where he feels like he has to. His mere glare can send people off running, so you're greatful to have him around.
You did like it when he'd hug you or hold you. It was rare, but when he let himself rest for a few hours, you're his personal pillow for that time period.
Kafka would mess with him every once in a while, touching your arm and making you feel ever so slightly awkward and the glare Blade gives would scare any ordinary person. She loves the reaction she gets out of him, seeing you get pulled away and his hands on your waist posessively.
Tumblr media
"CAELUS, wait-" March 7th and Dan Heng tried to stop him, but suddenly the trailblazer walks up to you and wraps his arms around your figure. The other two expected you two slap him in the face, or something to push him away, but the way you payed no notice to the way he holds onto you surprises them.
"Whaaat..??"
"Oh! Right, this is my partner. Hehe." He'd snicker, already seeing March 7th's absolutely baffled expression. "You have a PARTNER??? AND IT'S (name)?!"
You're known in the Station for being a researcher who despised being touched, most people knew how passive aggressive you'd get depending on how you were touched, and the intentions behind it. "I'm the one exception to that whole thingy they have, I'm just really special." Caelus sparkled in pride, before clearing your throat. "You're about to lose that privilege if you don't let me go and look at some papers."
Caelus apologizes, pulling away as you huff. "Thank you." And you return to your work.
"I still can't believe Caelus pulls.."
"What in the GALAXY is that supposed to mean?!"

Oh you little tattletale.
He’s not too surprised by your efforts in trying to keep him from getting caught.
Hell practically half if not most of his followers are or used to be coppers before joining him.
You’re no exception.
Expect to get anonymous calls from him talking and asking about anything other than any more information on Gordon being on his tail or big plans the precinct has been working toward.
For example, one day he called you while on shift to just say, “When are ya gettin’ off cop doody?”.
He has a printed and digital copy of your work schedule.
As we see in Season 4,he has complete control over Arkhams guards and prisoners, even saying that he wants to make a show of his escape, further displaying the extent of his 'showman complex'.
 For the sake of the prompt, if he had any minor inconveniences with his little escape he wouldn’t turn down you assisting him in his plans.
Though do keep in mind his showman complex and that unless you want to be discovered as a traitor, you’ll need to discuss with him a plan where you won’t be seen as an accomplice.
He’ll leave little gifts for you on your desk mostly to show his appreciation for all that you’ve done for him.
How he gets them there, you’re not too sure.
If you don't care for his gifts, he'll offer other ways to show his appreciation. (I'm winking under the eyepatch)

Job: Doctor
“Twinkle, twinkle, pretty doctor, how I long to unlock her. In this asylum, you shine with smite, but in my heart, you are my light.” (Yes, this is similar to him and Lee’s interaction.)
When he got sent to Arkham, there wasn’t much he was looking forward to.
Except getting back out on Gotham streets and getting revenge on James Gordon.
But when he meets you? Now there’s something to look forward to.
Once he realizes you’re on his side and help him escape the first time, expect to hear from him often.
Quite often in fact.
When he gets sent to Arkham a second time, doctor visits and check ups are a lot more fun now.
It’s like two kids in kindergarten, passing secret notes to one another while the teacher isn’t looking.
Some being about a plan for his escape while others are all laughs and giggles.
He is a gentleman when it comes to showing his gratitude for your assistance.
That is if he likes you of course.

Job: Forensic science technician
When you first met, Jonathan didn’t trust you.
In fact he hated you.
Anyone associated with the GCPD and Jim Gordon, he hated.
He blamed you all for the death of his father.
It took a bit of time and patience for him to fully trust you.
Even when you started becoming a full time mole for him, he still kept you at an arms length.
No matter how often you’d update him on the GCPD and their plans, or Jim Gordon’s whereabouts, he’d just give a vague form of acknowledgment or confirmation in your words.
The only reason he started to put his whole trust in you was when you started showing interest in his experiments.
Especially his toxin.
He starts enjoying your company more when you start helping him perfect his toxin.
You both find out it comes in handy that you’re able to get information on your former colleagues' fears without any suspicion.
He’s able to find weak points in practically every police officer in the precinct.
He starts showing his gratitude for your help later on.
Though he does tend to act vague about it.

hot chocolate for the soul 💝
@steddieholidaydrabbles day 23 prompt, ‘hot chocolate;’  @steddiemas week 4 prompt, ‘surprise,’ @whumpcember day 23 prompt, ‘overwhelmed.’
WC: 969; Rating: G; CW: None; Tags: fluff, found family, established steddie, mention of health conditions, Eddie lives HEA, soft everyone! Summary: Steve decides to surprise Eddie and Wayne with hot chocolate. He's got no idea of the emotional fireworks he’s going to unleash... (of the good variety!) On AO3
💝💝💝💝💝💝
Steve let himself in through the door, precariously balancing three hot-chocolate drinks. He was ridiculously proud that he’d got home with barely a slop. The cream and marshmallows hadn’t sunk totally flat yet.
“Honey!” Eddie rushed at Steve and plastered a wet kiss on his cheek. Steve almost yelped—okay, still no spillages. His coordination skills weren’t totally shot. “Mmmmm, mmmmm,” said Eddie. “That chocolate smells amazing, Babe. You shouldn’t have.”
“Yeah, I should’ve,” mumbled Steve. Eddie took the drinks, so he could slip out of his winter jacket. “I wanted to surprise you by doing something, I dunno, nice for a change? Sorry I was cranky this morning before work.”
“Huh? Didn’t notice.”
Eddie slipped his arm through Steve’s and led him to the kitchen area. Wayne stirred a big pan of bolognese sauce. He greeted Steve with a quiet ‘Hey,’ and a smile that could melt polar ice-caps.
“Hey,” smiled Steve, before plonking the drinks on the table and reverting his attention to Eddie. “What do you mean, ‘didn’t notice?’ You saying I’m always grouchy in the morning?”
“Wouldn’t have my bitchy darling any other way.”  Eddie pressed Steve into a chair then headed to help Wayne. “Seriously, though, you were fine.”
Steve inhaled sharply, his chest kinda catching—partially on the delicious odours from Wayne’s cooking, overwhelming even the hot chocolate, though mainly on the emotions surging inside him.
He had been cranky this morning. He’d had a bad headache for days. Eddie and Wayne didn’t deserve to be dragged down by him. Hell, post-Vecna-everything, the ‘powers-that-be’ might have compensated the Munsons with a nice little house, but they couldn’t cure Eddie’s chronic pain and regular panic attacks any more than they could fix Steve’s.
Yet, here Steve was.
In the snuggest kitchen on earth, with his loving boyfriend and his kind uncle smiling down at him like he was sunshine itself. Then Wayne’s gaze alighted on the hot chocolate. He turned off the cooktop, his face turning deadly grave.
“You brought that, son? For us?”
“Uh, yeah?” Steve was suddenly nervous. He swallowed hard, watching Wayne’s Adam’s apple bob as he apparently mirrored him.
Then Wayne pulled out a chair, sat down opposite Steve. His face crumpled, and he burst into tears.
“Shit!” squeaked Steve, glancing up at Eddie, who also looked mildly alarmed. “Did I do something wrong?" On instinct, Steve reached across the table to Wayne, who grabbed Steve’s fingers.
“No, no.” Wayne sniffed. “It’s just… I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. It’s just… t-this year, I thought I lost my sweet boy. I thought I lost everything, and now… h-here we are… all together… I got me two sweet boys to love. Two.”
“Oh,” said Steve, very softly, still kinda panicking for reasons he wasn’t sure of. Fortunately, Eddie had totally got this. He plonked himself at Wayne’s side, threw his arms around him, and joined him in sobbing his heart out.
Wayne had still gotten hold of Steve’s fingers, wringing them to the point of pain. Between hiccupping sobs, Eddie spluttered, “St-Steve… Stevie?” while flailing an arm toward Steve, gesturing wildly that he should join them.
Steve realized he was gawking, snapped his mouth shut. He felt it, he honestly did, his chest burning with love and gratitude. He also felt bad. Harringtons didn’t cry, and years of conditioning left their mark. That said, he’d cried a lot this last year, not all of it solo.
He wasn’t a Harrington anymore. Not really.
He was a Munson, heart and soul. At least, he wanted to be…
“Babe?” Eddie’s arm remained outstretched. Wayne’s pleading, watery eyes upon Steve were pretty much the final straw. Steve’s pent-up feelings surged upward… into a very slight sniffle.
Ding-dong!
Steve genuinely hated that he thought, Saved by the bell!
“I’ll get that.” He dabbed his eyes.
It was Dustin and Claudia, who Wayne often invited to dinner. Steve endured an awkward moment, struggling to explain, as the Hendersons entered the kitchen to find the Munsons a bawling mess. Dustin looked up at Steve, utterly aghast, before Wayne rescued him. “St-Steve bought hot chocolate. What a thoughtful surprise. After everything this year, it was just so… so… darn…”
Claudia was already breaking. Within seconds, she and Dustin joined Wayne and Eddie in a four-way waterworks cuddle, leaving Steve standing, hands on hips, utterly bewildered.
Okay, also grinning his face off through a faint sheen of tears. If the people he cared for were happy, he was. Wasn’t his fault they had a crazy way of showing it.
He really wanted ‘in’ on the hug, though. He felt more and more excluded and squirmy, though everyone entreated him to join them, between sputters and sniffles.
Ding-dong.
Steve dashed to the door.
“Hey,” said Robin. “You were in such a mad rush to get hot chocolate before the diner closed, you forgot your pain meds, Dingus. Shit! Oh my God, who died?”
“Nobody.” Steve pinched his aching brow. “I think they’re happy. It was um… s-something… to do with the… d-dumbass hot… choc…”
Robin didn’t cry much easier than Steve did. Once she set off, though, that was that. They piled into the six-way hug, sobbing till they were all pretty much cried out. Apart from Steve, who kept sniffling forever.
His face burned. He figured he was embarrassed… until he realized he wasn’t, not really.
He felt okay.
Yeah, his head hurt, but he’d gotten it leaned lightly on Eddie’s shoulder, which was scarred but healing. Eddie was alive. They were all here, together, and safe, holding each other tightly, if only for this perfect moment.
He loved them so much, and accepting so much love was really difficult, dammit. He was learning from the best.
They divided the cold hot chocolate into six mugs and laughed the evening away.

Chapter 12: Through
On one of the sunniest mornings Helena had seen in recent days, the peaceful quiet of the early risers in the Sheriff’s Department was disturbed by one restless sheriff.
Beau was taking his office apart – bit by bit, nail by nail, panel by panel, brick by brick.
The search for you had gone on all night and yielded zero results. You were nowhere to be found. For all Beau knew, you could be dead by now and buried in the vast woods of Montana.
A computer mouse flung against the wall and only missed Jenny’s head by an inch as the blonde peeked inside his office. The rest of the station had selected her to talk to the big boss, his outbursts even being heard from miles away.
“You okay?” Jenny checked carefully.
“I’m tryna find that stupid camera!”
“Thought you already found that hours ago,” Jenny noted with a raised brow.
“Can’t be too careful…” the sheriff murmured, his focus landing on the pile of pens on his desk. The silver one – had that always been there? He picked it up. “Does this look normal to you?”
Jenny only offered a shrug.
“Never mind,” Beau muttered and reduced the pen down to its individual parts. Nothing. Just a plain, old pen.
“Did you get some sleep?”
“What d’you think?”
At five in the morning, Beau had promised Jenny he’d snooze for half an hour on the couch in his office. He did lie down, stared at the suspended ceiling tiles for about a minute, and then remembered the damn camera.
It wasn’t just about what he had done in there but also about he’d said. No wonder Diane had gotten so easily under his skin. She probably had heard every insecurity he had ever uttered. To you. And to imaginary Randy.
How was he supposed to sleep in a place where he felt exploited, exposed, and unsafe?
“Well, uh, I just wanted to tell you that Randy went into Interrogation Room 2 with Diane…”
“WHAT?!”
“Yeah…” Jenny exhaled a deep sigh and leaned against the door frame. “He said you’d deputized him and authorized it, but I had a feeling that wasn’t true.”
Beau ran a hand across his face, rubbing his beard.
Rule #3: She’s my wife. I get to decide how we proceed.
Rule #4: You’re not the boss of me.
“Well, I did deputize him,” Beau admitted. He had given his former partner a long leash, not expecting he’d bolt through the backyard.
“Beau…” Jenny clearly didn’t approve.
“He left me no choice, alright?!”
Well, no choice his guilt could deal with.
The sheriff then left his destroyed office and thundered into Interrogation Room 2 down the hall. Randy wouldn’t get to do this alone. Beau knew there was an ulterior motive – if only Randy saved you, he could also miraculously save his marriage. Randy was a persistent motherfucker. He wouldn’t give up.
And if the roles were reversed, Beau wouldn’t either. He’d probably be even more annoyingly persistent than Randy.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” Beau charged in with steam coming out of his ears. For a moment, his anger was so focused on his friend, he didn’t even notice the rising smile on Diane’s lips.
“Good morning, Sheriff Arlen.” Even if Diane’s voice sounded melodious, to Beau it was still chalk on board. “Remodeling the office, are we?”
“You mind?” Randy prompted stand-offishly, glancing up at the sheriff. “Kinda in the middle of something here.”
“Outside. Now,” was all Beau said.
Defiantly and miffed by the authoritative tone, Randy followed him to the hall.
“Play nice, boys!” Diane’s voice echoed through before the door fell into its lock.
“What d’you think you’re doing? You can’t just talk to our prime suspect without my presence!” Beau roared.
Randy rolled his eyes back. “Didn’t know I needed a babysitter…”
“This isn’t a game, Randy! We need to find Y/N before it’s too late,” Beau argued furiously. They didn’t have time for petty competitions.
“Yeah, which is why I’m talking to the only lead we have! That bitch knows where she is,” Randy countered with an equal amount of fury.
“She’s not gonna tell you!”
Randy only shrugged – cocky in nature and completely unlike him. And Beau then realized something that had changed: His friend wouldn’t back down anymore and bend. Those days were over, and it was probably Beau’s own fault.
“We’ll see,” Randy said stubbornly, his hand wandering back to the door handle. “You comin’?”
Beau inhaled and exhaled a deep breath before nodding – and back into the lion’s den they went.
Diane welcomed them with a sneer. “All made up?”
“Tell us where Turner took her,” Randy demanded with a stern expression and firm voice.
If Randy wanted to play bad cop, the role of good cop fell to Beau by default. And although they had never ever played it that way before, Beau figured Randy carried more anger than even him right now. He might as well let him make good use of it.
“Can’t.” Diane twitched her shoulders. “Hal doesn’t tell me.”
“Oh, and we’re just supposed to believe that?” Beau lifted a brow in mock. “C’mon, Diane…”
“It’s true,” she said, smiling. “Call it an insurance policy in case one of you Neanderthals decides to go rogue on me – looking at you specifically, Sheriff Arlen. If you leave your own partner to die in a filthy warehouse, I don’t wanna know what you do to your enemies.” She then looked at Randy, whispering behind her palm, “You know, I think he did it on purpose.”
Beau clicked his tongue and snorted humorlessly. “Alright, Diane, you’ve had your fun. You’ve wreaked havoc… You’ve won, okay? Fair and square. Just give up your partner, tell us where Y/N is, and end this once and for all. Might even get a better deal if you do. Think about it. Murdering an FBI agent doesn’t look good in front of a judge and jury. We have iron-clad proof you killed at least five people in Texas. Capital murder, death penalty… See where I’m going with this?”
“Oh, I’ve thought about it, Sheriff. And I’ve told you: I don’t know where she is now,” Diane reiterated with the same infuriating smile. Her gray eyes then wandered to a wall clock behind the men. “At least not yet.”
Randy and Beau both followed her gaze and stared at that same clock. Their eyes widened.
“Then when?” Randy prompted.
“Don’t worry. You’ll see her soon.” Diane smirked. “If she makes it out alive, she can tell you in person she’s choosing the rugged sheriff here over you, Detective Nichols.”
Randy’s jaw tightened, his fists clenching and unclenching under the metal table.
“I gave her a fighting chance.”
“Oh, you mean like the others?” Beau had known from the start that it would be useless talking to her.
“They all could’ve gotten out,” said Diane as if she blamed the victims for not being smarter and more durable. “‘Sides, why would I give up my favorite part? I’ve waited a while for this one. Killing her? While you two idiots watch helplessly and throw feces at each other like monkeys in a zoo? Gotta say, it’s better than killing twenty-four people combined. Ever since I met Deputy Popcorn, I’ve been actually craving a snack.” Upon Beau’s facial twitch, Diane leaned closer and whispered with a smirk, “Yeah, I know about the cute little nicknames for your deputies too, Sheriff. I wonder how many bugs you’ve found yet in your office. Sure it can’t be all of them. Maybe I’ve bugged the whole station. Who’s to say? Have you checked your trailer yet? The lovely agent’s motel room? No?”
Beau couldn’t pinpoint the exact feeling that clutched his heart and twisted it like a boa constrictor. Pain, fear, anger, sadness – a deadly cocktail for anyone. Was this throbbing sting in his chest what a heart attack felt like? Only recently, he’d read an article in the paper about a guy his age who just dropped dead. Was this it for him?
Would it mean he'd get to see you again, though?
“Enough of that!”
Randy’s voice rang in his ears, but Beau couldn’t refocus. He needed fresh air to breathe, his lungs dried up and clinging to every molecule like he’d been deprived of oxygen for days. The small room felt suddenly suffocating as the monster across from him sneered joyfully.
“Look, I don’t know if you’re saying all that horseshit ‘cause you wanna hurt him or me,” Randy said, his voice laced with a darkness Beau had never seen before.
“Little bit of both,” Diane teased with a shrug.
“Yeah, well, I don’t care either way,” Randy huffed, the deep creases in his brow casting threatening shadows on his face. “Do your worst to me or him. Hell, burn us at the stake if it makes you feel any better, sweetheart, but all I wanna know is where that bunker is. Where is she? Your beef’s clearly with us. Men, right? You know she doesn’t deserve this. Just let her go.”
Diane seemed unamused by the suggestion, leaning back in the metal chair. “You’re right. She doesn’t deserve this. I actually like her. She reminds me of me. But you two did this to her. It’s out of my hands at this point. You don’t deserve her, sheriff,” she said and looked at Beau before her cold eyes shifted to Randy. “Neither do you, detective. I know a lot of things – and not just about the sheriff here. I know what you did to her, too.”
Randy forced a tight smile. “You’re bluffing. I didn’t do anything.”
“Am I?” Diane quirked a brow and then sent him an innocent smile. “About four years ago, she wrote a rather lengthy email to her sister Sophia in Seattle. She seemed very upset. Said there was a little something you wouldn’t give her. Ring any bells?”
With a thick swallow and a glare swimming in his hazel eyes, Randy nodded. “We’re done here.”
Diane let out a long, suspenseful sigh, not bothering to engage further. Her icy heart wouldn’t melt. Her eyes flickered around the bleak, depressing room. “I miss windows. Haven’t seen the outside for days.”
“Yeah, and you ain’t gonna,” Beau huffed. He had quietly listened, his heart rate slowing down as his head started spinning with questions. You had never told him anything. He had never asked. It had been an unspoken rule to not talk about your marriage. Beau always figured knowing too much would only make it worse.
“Too bad. I always liked the autumn sunsets. When it gets dark sooner…” Diane then stretched out her neck. “Anyways, nice chatting with you boys, but it’s time for my beauty nap now. Which one of you two cowboys is gonna accompany me back to my cell, hm?”
The men shared a look and then wordlessly rose, leaving the room. In the safety of the hallway, Beau ran a hand over his face and took his first deep breath.
Air. Lungs. Brain. Without toxicity, he could finally think straight again.
“Well, this was pointless and a waste of our time. Happy now?” Beau huffed with his newfound lung capacity.
But Randy’s brow was furrowed. He was thinking. “Actually, yeah… Didn’t you hear what she said?”
“Yeah, bunch of narcissistic bullshit. She’s not gonna tell us where Y/N is,” Beau muttered bitterly. If possible, he wished to never converse with that psychotic witch again. There was only so much he could handle before snapping her neck.
“She said that she doesn’t know where Y/N is now,” Randy pointed out. “Maybe she wasn’t lying. Maybe Y/N’s not in the bunker yet. Turner might keep her somewhere else and wait till he can move her.”
“At sundown,” Beau mused, Diane’s words haunting his mind. “He’ll move her when it’s dark.”
“Which means we still have a couple hours to find her,” Randy finished the thought.
“Popcorn!” Beau yelled down the hallway. The sheriff found himself in better spirits. He hadn’t used a silly name for his most loyal deputy in days, although it ached a tiny bit to say it now. “Any properties in Newton’s name?”
“Yes, sir, several,” Mo replied.
“I need a list of all in the area. Get a team together and search ‘em. One by one,” Beau ordered. “Warehouses, cabins… Take it all apart. I don’t care.”
“And also see if any properties are in Hal Turner’s name and add them to the list,” Randy suggested.
Poppernak shot Beau a look, and only when the latter gave his agreement, did the deputy nod. “Yes, Sheriff Arlen.”
Tumblr media
The obnoxiously loud sound of birds woke you from a deep slumber. Groggily, you pried your eyes open and found the first few beams of sunlight warming your face. For a peaceful moment of dazed bliss, you had no clue where you were or how you got here.
There was a thumping, searing pain in your skull, hammering away at your sanity like the ticks of a clock. Your neck and shoulders hurt from tension till you realized you were bound to an old wooden chair, a harsh and creaking surface underneath you. Your behind felt both sore and numb.
Glancing around the room, you noticed you were in the living quarters of a small cabin. A fireplace sat to your right. Above it, a cuckoo clock that showed shortly past noon, and you realized that must’ve produced the bird noise that woke you. The stinging sunlight reached your eyes and filled you with hope.
Hal Turner hadn’t locked you into a bunker yet.
“You’re awake. Good.” Turner entered the room with a bottle of water and a sandwich, throwing the items unceremoniously onto your lap. “You need to eat. We’ll leave soon.”
“Where are we going?”
“Where they all went,” he said and came up behind you. Turner wasn’t a man of tall stature. Small, middle-aged, nervous. Non-threatening.
Diane’s little ant.
He cut your ties, and you could tell his hands were shaking. They didn’t treat the others like that. Entertaining a victim had never been his job before.
Sedated, dumped, marooned.
That had been the pattern, and you hoped this little off-course adventure would pay off with your freedom. Your gaze drifted down to a lonely brown belt buckle.
Unarmed.
With free hands and Turner still vulnerably behind you, your arms shot up and wrapped around his neck. Fortunately, he wasn’t as heavy as Beau in training when you jolted him forward, jumped up, and rammed his face straight into your knee.
Unconscious for the moment, Turner tumbled to the ground, and you sprinted through the front door. You hoped it would give you enough time to find an exit.
But all you found was a vast sea of trees – towering pines that reached heavenward with no neighboring houses or roads in sight.
There was a shed to your left. Tools. You needed weapons.
And, most of all, you needed more goddamn time to think your way out of this one.
It wasn’t long till you heard the front door of the cabin slam open, heavy and angry footsteps aimlessly searching before they slowly circled closer to the shed.
Fortunately, your little hide-out had proved itself useful – and fully stocked. Turner had arranged his tools in a neatly organized manner. Nothing seemed to be out of place, screwdrivers hanging on the wall from small to big, pliers, drills, hacksaws… Your weapons of choice, however, fell on a hammer and the heaviest, biggest wrench.
Lurking behind the small barn door, you lay in wait till the old door creaked open and Hal Turner walked through. He only blinked at you wide-eyed before your first hit with the wrench landed across his right cheek. It was hard enough for blood to spew out of his mouth, and as he tumbled forward, you delivered your second blow – the hammer, this time, slamming against the back of his head.
Dropping the tools, you decided to take your chances and make a run through the woods for it. You still had a few fleeting hours till dark. If you just kept going, maybe you’d make it to a road or a town somewhere before you froze to death.
What a great outlook…
However, you didn’t even get farther than a few yards from the house before a sharp pain seared from your ankle throughout your entire body. Falling harshly and bracing yourself on the cold, wet leaves, you screamed out and looked down at the culprit – a bear trap.
Well, points for Hufflepuff!
Apparently, you had underestimated Turner. Ahead of you, you also spied some tripwire. Great. This place was a giant death trap – and you had already hated the woods before all of this.
Getting back onto your feet was not only hindered by the giant claws in your flesh but also the iron chain attached to the trap that tethered you to the ground. So, with your freezing hands, you dug out the metal stake that served as your anchor.
Then, the fucking bear trap – you knew this one would hurt like a son of a bitch. Carefully, you inspected the oozing wound, the razor sharp edges deeply clutching your skin at your lower calf and ankle. For a moment, you even swore you could feel the tips of their pointed teeth drilling into your bone. You tried to pry them apart with your hands but gave up on that idea rather quickly once the jaws cut your fingers.
Glancing at the shed, you saw the door was still ajar. It was quiet in there. Either Hal Turner was gone, solely unconscious, or currently bleeding to death. The shed was your Schrödinger’s cat. As long as you didn’t know which one it was, you still had time.
Taking several deep breaths, you closed your eyes and remembered the trip you took with Beau when you were back in Houston. The two of you drove camping in Piney Woods. For a few days, you were gone and unknown to everyone around you. You could just be you and him. No one had to hide anything. No one had to feel guilty. In those short days, you realized you wanted to spend the rest of your life with him.
“Did you know bear traps are actually pretty easy to get out of?” Beau babbles a random fact in his usual manner when neither of you has said anything in a minute. He glances at you, a happy smile on his face as he intertwines his fingers with yours during a stroll through the green and lush forest.
“Huh.”
“Yeah, all you gotta do is not panic, get up on your feet, and press your weight down on the springs at the bottom. Just pops open and you can pull your leg out,” he explains with a popping sound, turning the little lesson into a show-and-tell.
“Don’t panic…” you mumbled to yourself and sat up. “Get up…” With a strained groan and your palms supportively on the ground, you heaved yourself to your feet. You winced as you put pressure on your injured leg and, therefore, tried to shift your weight to your good one. The main problem was the next step: “Press down.”
Mentally, you braced yourself before you slowly started to put pressure on the leg again. The jaws moved and wiggled in your flesh, but the pain was too much too bear. You bit down on your tongue as tears strangled your eyes.
Alright, next try.
If slow was too painful, then maybe the bandaid method was the way to go. Quick and painless, as they say. You inhaled and exhaled through your nose as you raised your foot a few inches above ground, making sure the springs would hit the uneven surface properly. Then, you kicked down.
The trap sprung open, you pulled your foot out, and released a primal scream that echoed through the quiet woods, surely disturbing whatever lived there.
And then, suddenly, Hal Turner stood in front of you with a shovel.
Tumblr media
Diane’s listed properties came up empty. There was still no sign of you. Turner, on the other hand, had only booked a motel room in his name but hadn’t been seen there in weeks. So, Beau figured he had to be staying somewhere if he wasn’t sleeping in his room.
At four o’clock, the sheriff was close to a breakdown when all leads petered out and the daylight was almost gone. But then Cassie and Denise stormed the station, both out of breath, and brought forth a document that showed a property north of Helena in the name of a Diane Turner. It was a remote cabin in the middle of the woods, which also happened to be close to the location where the ambulance had picked up Randy.
Ding, ding, ding!
Beau gathered the whole cavalry and raced there as fast as he could. By the time he was ten minutes out, the sky had grown dark, the woods pitch-black around him. Switching on the Jeep’s headlights only added to the uneasiness in his stomach. His passenger was quiet next to him, but Beau could tell how worried Randy was by the way his left leg anxiously drummed against the floor mat.
Both of them thought it was too late to save you.
An access road, all dirt, led up behind the cabin, only making it a short hike. Turner’s vehicle had been parked at the fork where it reached pavement. They seemed to be on the right track. After all, if Turner was here, then hopefully so were you.
Beau and Randy were the first to arrive, the cabin inside dark without a single light on, not even a candle burning in the smudged windows. Carefully, the men stepped on the porch, the property around them quiet and undisturbed, but the front door was an inch ajar. Pulling out their weapons, the two shared a look without speaking a word before entering the house, a feeling of familiarity rising in Beau’s chest.
They were still partners, somewhere deep down.
The floorboards creaked under Beau’s boots as he treaded down the hallway. The cabin was small, only consisting of one bedroom, a living area, a kitchen and bath. While the men checked each room, Beau already knew you weren’t here anymore – if you’d ever been here to begin with. Maybe Diane had sent them on a wild goose-chase, another sick game created by the mind of psychopath, while you had been locked in a bunker all along, waiting for him to find you.
How much air did you still have left? Would he get to you in time?
“Beau!”
His partner’s voice drew him from the bedroom to the living space, his mind still rattling with the unspoken fear of losing you. His green eyes then focused on the beam of Randy’s flashlight as it shone on a wooden chair in the middle of the room, a set of cut plastic ties on the floor next to it. There was also an uneaten sandwich and an unopened bottle of water scattered on the ground.
And then, there were the trails, the little drops, and the sheer pools of blood everywhere that made his gut churn. Was it all yours?
“We need to get forensics here,” Beau said with a thick swallow, already pulling out his phone to call Jenny.
“That’s a lot of blood,” Randy said with a lump in his throat, his eyes transfixed on the little red pond by the tips of his feet. And although it was dark, Beau could see the color drain from his partner’s face.
“I know.” Beau bobbed his head quietly, gently clasping his friend’s shoulder as he held his phone to his ear.
The sheriff then informed Jenny of their findings, telling her to hurry any lab results along. The sooner they knew whose blood it was, the better. As he hung up, he noticed Randy following a trail of blood to the door, leading further outside. He shone his flashlight through the dense foliage before it landed on a little working shed to the right.
As Randy creaked the door of the shed open, with Beau behind him, both thought there was a high probability they’d stumble upon a body in there – if not two.
Instead, the shed was disappointingly empty.
Beau whistled lowly as the light hit the neatly arranged wall of tools. “Well, that’s some freak level organization.”
But Randy’s brow furrowed as his light landed on the ground behind the door. “There’s a hammer and wrench on the ground.” He knelt down to inspect it closer. “Got blood on it. Lot of it.”
Beau chuckled lightly and ran a palm over his face to keep the stinging tears of hope inside, which only confused Randy.
“What’s so funny? Y/N might be dead,” Randy said sourly.
“That’s not Turner’s doing,” Beau argued and gestured at the tools on the ground, his heart flooding with a tiny bit of relief. “Look at the wall. Why would he kill her with tools? It’s way too bloody. Guy like this can’t handle the mess. He had a perfectly fine gun. Would’ve been way cleaner if he wanted to.”
“So, you think this was Y/N?” Randy thought for a moment before nodding. “The ties inside were cut. The food and water on the floor… Maybe he cut her loose and she took advantage of it? I mean, it does sound like her.”
“Yeah…” Beau’s eyes then musingly drifted back to the wall. “Is there a screwdriver on the ground somewhere? There’s one missing here.”
“Nope, nothing on the ground,” Randy replied once his flashlight search was complete. “You think she took it with her?”
“Let’s hope so…”
“But if Y/N managed to overpower Turner, why isn’t she here? And where’s Turner? And if it happened out here, why is there so much blood inside?”
Beau licked his chapped lips, his brow returning to their initially creased position. “Maybe she didn’t take him out for good.”
“You thinkin’ she knocked him out and escaped?”
“Yeah, and then Turner woke up, went back into the house before taking off after her through those woods,” Beau shared his theory. It would explain the vast amounts of blood inside.
“So, your theory is she’s lost and being hunted?” Randy cocked a brow.
Beau only offered him a shrug. “Best possible scenario.”
“Great.” Randy scoffed. “What’s the worst possible scenario then?”
Beau’s Adam’s apple bobbed. “I think we both know.” Licking his lips, he patted Randy’s shoulder. “But let’s not think about the worst right now. I’ll get a team going to search these woods. We’ll find her. You’re not losing her again, alright?”
Randy could only nod and hope, but a little tug on his heart told him something different as he glanced at his former friend.
Tumblr media
“It’s been three hours,” Randy huffed frustratedly as they passed the same street sign to Helena down the mountain once more, driving up and down the roads around the cabin in an endless loop, hoping and praying a miracle would happen. “Don’t you think we would’ve found her by now? If she’s hurt and inside those woods, we should be in there looking for her.”
Beau passed another sigh between his lips. There had been three hours of that, too. Patience was a not only an eight-letter word but a bitch as well.
“Neither of us is any help there. We don’t know those woods. You don’t even a phone, Randy,” Beau said with a bit more firmness in his voice, causing his partner’s frown to deepen. Saved by the bell, Beau’s phone chimed in his pocket with Jenny’s angelic name popping up on the screen. He pulled over on the side of the road before picking up.
“What you got? Uh-huh… You sure? What did they say about the cabin? Okay… Both of ‘em? How far? Which direction? Alright… We’re close. Driving back up there now.”
Randy held his breath till Beau hung up, trying to guess the content of the phone call by the various facial expressions of the sheriff. Then, he asked, “Good news or bad news?”
“Hard to say,” Beau replied, his eyes fixed on his hands gripping the steering wheel. He swallowed the lump in his throat, gave himself an encouraging nod, and started the engine, trying to sink every bad theory that surfaced in his mind. “Forensics came back. Our theory was partially correct. The blood inside the cabin was mostly Turner’s.”
Randy raised a brow, his heartbeat thrumming in his ears. “Mostly?”
“Evidence points to her not escaping. Turner might have gotten to her before she could even leave the property. They found a bear trap with her blood on it,” Beau explained slowly, his grip on the wheel tightening. “Dogs picked up a trail, leading into the woods. Forensics confirmed both of their blood on that trail.”
“Doesn’t mean anything. He could’ve followed her. She still could’ve escaped,” Randy replied and knew full well it was only sugarcoating the truth swimming in the lower pits of his belly.
“Could’ve…” Beau nodded and swallowed heavily. “But then again, if she did manage to escape, how did her blood end up inside the cabin?”
Defeated, Randy licked his lips, expelling a humorless chuckle. “Yeah, guess my hopes are little too high. I mean, how the hell would you get out of a bear trap?”
Beau knew the question was mostly rhetorical, but true to himself, he still answered, “It’s actually pretty easy. Just press down on the springs, and the thing opens right up.” A smile formed on his lips as a memory popped back into his mind. “I told Y/N that once when we took a camping trip back in Houston. She probably didn’t remember it. I mean, honestly, I doubt she was even listening. I was kinda ramblin’, you know?”
“Uh-huh. I remember. I’ve spent a lot of time with you…” Randy smacked his lips, fingers tapping his thigh. “You guys went on a trip together?”
Beau’s mouth opened on reflex, but he stopped himself from replying, shooting a scrutinizing look at his partner. “Yeah, uh, just the one, really. Shoulda been more…”
Regrets seeped to the surface. If Beau had known he had only a finite amount of time with you, he would’ve enjoyed and appreciated every last second of it. He should’ve spent less time in his head. He should’ve taken you out on more dates. He should’ve been the best he could be. Instead, he wasted so much time and couldn’t even remember why in retrospect.
“What makes you say that?” Randy’s question rang both with curiosity and pain. His brown eyes stared stubbornly ahead and focused on the dark road.
Beau blew a long sigh. “Well, I wasn’t always the best–,” he hesitated a moment before saying the word, “–boyfriend, I guess.”
If Randy was upset by the term, he didn’t let it show. Maybe he was sticking to Rule #2. He quirked a brow and glanced at Beau in the driver’s seat. “So, on top of stealing my wife, you’re telling me you didn’t even treat her right?”
“Guess so,” Beau admitted quietly, poking the inside of his cheeks with his tongue and ignoring the subtle jab. “And I didn’t treat her badly, by the way. Just could’ve tried harder. Felt guilty because she was your-, well, you know… And the divorce got kinda messy, too. I just wanted to stay clear of complications.”
Exasperated, Randy scoffed, shaking his head. “This is not really making me want to give you my blessing…”
Beau huffed a chuckle. “Didn’t know that was an option.”
“Well, it’s not. You don’t deserve her.” Randy clicked his tongue, pensively bobbing his head. He then finally admitted, the words sounding almost sour, “Neither do I. You might be as big of an idiot as me.”
Beau’s eyes widened in surprise, his focus briefly swaying from the road. “What d’you mean? You guys were perfect together. Is this about what Newton said?”
Randy’s lips curved into a bitter smile. “Y/N never told you?”
“Told me what?”
Randy chewed on his lower lip before pushing out the words that had plagued him for three years. “She wanted to leave me.”
Beau shook his head. “Nah, I don’t buy it. She loved you. You should’ve seen her after she thought you’d died.”
Randy inhaled sharply, his head spinning with regret and heart filling with hope. For the past years, he had wondered if he’d ever get another chance to fix things with you.
“Yeah, well, it’s true,” he said, his gaze cast downward as if he were confessing his sins to a priest. “She wanted kids, and I told her I didn’t. Neither of us was backing down. The night the cartel kidnapped me, we were supposed to have dinner and talk about it when I got home. Part of me already knew where it was headed.”
Beau listened and nodded. He remembered the set dinner table, the lovingly prepared food, the candles – it didn’t seem like something one would do if they planned on leaving.
“No, I don’t think she would’ve left you,” Beau noted, although his heart stung when he said it out loud.
“I overheard her asking Carla for a divorce lawyer. Pretty sure she was,” Randy retorted. “Seems silly now. She was already out of my league. I should’ve just given her what she wanted. I don’t even know why I didn’t. I should’ve just shut up and been grateful.”
“That’s what I would’ve told you to do,” Beau muttered, his brain trying to keep track and process everything. Why had you never told him any of this? And more importantly: “Why have you never told me?”
“Guess I was embarrassed.” Randy shrugged. “And I already knew what you would’ve said.”
Secretly amused, Beau cocked a brow. “What? That you’re an idiot?”
“Exactly.”
“And Carla knew?”
“I guess.” Randy gave another shrug of his shoulders. “I mean, they talked all the time. Well, mostly it was Carla complaining about you, but still…”
Beau’s brow furrowed into deep lines. He should’ve been more surprised than he was. The only thing that really baffled him was the fact you had still agreed to date him after hearing all of that. What else didn’t he know?
“I thought they met once a week for book club?”
Randy shot him a pitying look. “Dude, there was no book club. Only three bottles of wine.” He then exhaled a long sigh, stretching back into his seat. “Maybe it’s good she didn’t pick anyone. She deserves someone who can give her what she wants.”
“What makes you think I can’t?” A little offended, Beau raised his brow. “You know, when she came back a few weeks ago, I swore I’d make things right. I wouldn’t let her go this time.”
But Beau broke that promise. He pushed you away to stay clear of complications. His heart twinged.
“And you think she wanted to live in a trailer in the woods of Montana?”
“Doesn’t matter. I would’ve given her anything she wanted. No questions asked,” Beau stated simply. “I was happy when I was with her. Didn’t matter where we were or what we were doing.”
“So, what? You planned on marrying her? Kids?”
Beau twitched his shoulders, his eyes not drifting from the street. If he glanced at Randy only for a beat, he couldn’t ignore his friend’s reactions any longer and still remain honest. “We never talked about it, but... If that’s what she wants, then yeah. Don’t even have to think about it. You really were an idiot, you know?”
“I know that. Thank you,” Randy huffed sarcastically and rolled his eyes. “Still not getting my blessing, though.”
“Good thing you’re not her father,” Beau snapped. He could only muster so much patience. “You don’t really have a say in who she’s datin’.”
“You’re one to talk.” Randy scoffed mockingly. “I met your friend Denise at the station. We had a long chat. She almost talks as much as you. Sounded like you tried to have a say in who Carla should marry. Little hypocritical, don’t you think?”
“That’s different,” Beau retorted defensively. “We have a kid together. Whoever Carla’s seeing is also gonna be in Emily’s life.”
“So, you don’t even care a little about Carla’s well-being? ‘Cause Denise said you killed her new husband,” Randy countered cleverly.
“Of course I care,” Beau admitted frustratedly. What did Randy want to hear? That he was right about everything? Well, except one thing: “And I didn’t kill Avery, by the way. Might have been slightly responsible for his death, sure, but I didn’t kill the idiot.”
“Seems to be a pattern for you. Maybe Diane was right,” Randy muttered wryly.
Beau licked his lips and sighed. “Listen, I know that devil woman is good at getting into someone’s head, but you gotta believe me, man. I did not leave you to die. If I had known–”
“Whoa, I know,” Randy interrupted him with an amused chuckle and two placating hands. “I was just joking. I knew you didn’t hand me over to the cartel on purpose in some evil ploy to get with my wife. That would be insane.”
Beau gave a nod, accepting his answer with relief. “Well, good.”
“Look, I’m not delusional, contrary to what everyone’s thinking. I know things happened while I was away,” Randy admitted. “I figured she had moved on. For three years, I actually hoped she did. I wanted her to be happy. Just didn’t think it be you, I guess. Probably shouldn’t have been surprised, though. I kinda knew you always liked her. Just didn’t think any more of it, you know?”
“And there wasn’t more, alright? I promise,” Beau assured him, his cheeks reddening from embarrassment. He never thought Randy would’ve suspected anything – not that there really ever was anything. But had his tiny crush really been that obvious? “One of those things, you know? Just ‘cause I find Michelle Rodriguez attractive doesn’t mean I seriously expect to date her. I didn’t know it was more than that till I spent some time with her.”
“Good to know,” was all Randy said, crossing his arms with an uncomfortable clear of his throat. “Definitely surprised Y/N likes you, though. She always had a pretty low opinion of you. Said you were doing shitty police work and I should be more careful. Guess she was right..." Beau shot him a darkened look but refrained from taking the bait. Randy pursed his lips. "Look, I know I’m a pain in your ass right now. You’d probably love to get rid of me.”
“Well, hey, that’s not–”
“What, true?” Knowingly, Randy lifted a brow. “I would if I were you.”
Beau only nodded, not admitting out loud the thought had certainly crossed his mind. “So, what are you thinking now?”
“Still want her to be happy,” Randy said quietly.
All of a sudden, Beau then slammed on the brakes, both men jolting forward into their seatbelts. A loud thud echoed through the car as something heavy hit the Jeep’s hood. For a moment, the sheriff thought he’d run into a deer before blinking his eyes at the bloodied and muddied image of Hal Turner.
“What the hell?!”
Turner was in rough shape, pantingly and deliriously stumbling around the car and onto the road, shielding his eyes from the blinding headlights with his palm. Blood dripped from various places from his head and body before Beau’s eyes narrowed on the metal tool stuck inside his neck.
“Guess we found our missing screwdriver,” Randy noted as the two men jumped out of the car, guns drawn.
“Where is she, Turner?” Beau prompted sternly, his finger itching to pull the trigger for everything he’d done to you. But knowing where you were was more important than a vendetta. Turner could only speak while he was alive.
And the man seemed to know it, too. Before the sheriff could call for back-up and an ambulance, Turner sneered and raised a hand, gripping the screwdriver tightly.
“No, don’t!”
Beau’s plea came too late. Hal Turner pulled the makeshift weapon out of his throat and collapsed to the ground, bleeding out within seconds.
Randy’s fingers landed on the man’s pulse point. He glanced up at his partner with a shake of his head. “He’s gone.”
Throwing his gun angrily into the rustling brushes, Beau gripped his temples and screamed into the void of the dark woods. Desperation clawed on his mind and heart. The fear of losing you for good took him prisoner. With labored breaths, he squeezed the bridge of his nose with his thumb and forefinger and rubbed his tired eyes. Turner had been his last lead. He knew more wouldn’t be coming.
What now?
A sanctimonious beep of his phone drew his attention. A small part of him prayed it was Jenny, informing him you’d emerged a few miles up the road – bloody like Turner, but otherwise fine. Alive.
But his green eyes only found an email and darkened at the sender’s name. “Diane just sent me a link.”
Randy, caught in his own spiral, suddenly glanced up. “To what?”
“Livestream.”

Bitter Goodbye
Tumblr media
Tommy Shelby x fem!reader
Prompt: "I loved you. Believe me, I did. But then you turned into someone else... someone terrible."
Trigger Warnings: Swearing, breaking up, Tommy kinda being a dick
Summary: Before everything, you and Tommy had been childhood sweethearts. But when the war changed him, he expected you to change with him...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been nearly a year since the war had ended, and by now your hopes that things would go back to the way they had been before, were long gone. Nothing was quite the same, but business at the betting shop was booming and even if he didn't confide in you the way he used to, you knew that Tommy was planning something big.
Before the war, there was hardly a thing in his life that Tommy didn't share with you. Not a day would go by where you couldn't be seen out in the street, arm in arm with Tommy, talking and laughing. Practically everyone in Small Heath was just waiting for the day when wedding bells would final chim.
As much as you hated to admit it, you were waiting too. But money was tight, and Tommy swore he wanted nothing but the best for you, even when you told him that you'd happily marry him on the bank of The Cut without a second thought.
In a way, you supposed, the war had only amplified what he already was: Ambitious and prideful. Only now, he didn't cut you in on his plans, and you saw him less and less with every passing day.
You could barely remember the last time you had actually spent time together. In a way, it felt like your relationship was already over. Maybe that was why it was so easy to make up your mind about leaving.
Originally, when Tommy first got his orders, the plan was for you to be married before he shipped out-
"Just in case," His voice wavered, but he still met your eyes, "So if anything happens to me, you'll be taken care of..."
"No- no- nothings going to happen Tom," Tears slipping down your cheeks, you had buried your face in his chest, "You're going to be fine."
Of course, the wedding had never actually happened. Somewhere between his deployment being moved up, Arthur and John's own orders coming in, and the scramble to make sure the betting shop would be safe in Polly's hands, there was never time.
Oh well, you supposed now, that just made it one step easier to walk away.
"Are you going somewhere?"
Tommy's voice at the bedroom door pulled your packing to a resounding hault. You cleared your throat before carefully resuming folding a blouse, "Yes. My cousins house in Liverpool. I'm on the 4:30 train."
He let out a sigh, and out of the corner of your eye, you could see him rubbing at his temples, "Were you planning on telling me or just disappearing?"
"I told Polly. And I'd've left a note." You said, finally looking up at him.
Tommy met your gaze evenly, but you could still see the flash of hurt in his eyes, "I know you told Polly. Darling- why not just tell me, that your unhappy?"
"Tell you? Tell you?" You repeated incredulous, "I never see you, Tommy, and when I do it's like you're not even really there! And unhappy does not even begin to cover it!"
He took a step further into the room, "Listen to me love, I swear to you, if you wait just a couple week more, for all this business to be over-"
"What business, Tommy? Or have you forgotten that you've neglected to tell me anything for the better part of six months! I've found out more about Billy Kimber and those blasted guns from John than you!"
"It was meant to be a surprise..." It was the quietest you had heard his voice in years.
"What, that you were taking over Kimbers territory? That you're selling out communists left and right? What about that is meant to be a good surprise, Tom?" You demanded.
Tommy's face twisted, and suddenly he was yelling too, "That we were moving up in the world! That with the money coming in we could finally get out of this shit hole!"
You let out a scoff, shaking your head, "Oh, and you'd finally marry me I'm sure, as if you haven't been treating like a stranger for months."
"Darling-"
"No. No apologies, no flowery words, no promises of changing," You stuffed the last of your things into your suitcase, and slamming in closed, "I'm done, Tommy."
He caught your arm when you went to go around him, standing between you and the door, "I thought you said you loved me."
You swallowed, looking up at him, "I did love you. Believe me I did. But then you turned into someone else... someone terrible."
Tommy's face broke, but you had to continue, "You scheme, and you lie and you do what you can to get ahead, and I can almost understand that, but not when it means cutting me out. There's no point in me staying here anymore."
For a long moment, a dozen emotions passed over his face, until finally, Tommy pulled a mask of neutrality together, speaking coldly, "I suppose you should go then."
You shook your head, swallowing back the lump in your throat, "Goodbye, Tommy."
Self Aware AU (Sylus)
Summary: You have the lowest Affinity with Sylus. The reason is because he is a red flag. As red as his eyes. Spawn of the devil. Unless, he is actually not as evil as you label him to be. Does this change something in you? Yes? No? Maybe so?
The recent update probably had been messing with the game. Yours especially.
(What's the point of sneaking around to only touch it? Come here. Take my hand.)
(Fine. I'll be the one to hold your hand out in the open. Better?)
You shook your head.
Every time you tap his hand, either, that prompt hasn't failed a single time to appear.
If you tap somewhere else, he'll just not move. Or talk. No dialogue without voice either.
You pinched the bridge of your nose.
"Ever since you showed up, you've given me headaches. Maybe I shouldn't have gone through with the Main Story after all."
He gave a coy smirk without you noticing.
"Whatever. Nothing else changes so I guess it's not that bad. Gotta get ready to work."
+-------------------------+--------------------------+
*Pop*
Your stretched successfully relocated stiff bones and muscle from their rigidness after sitting the whole morning until after lunch break. Data entry was easy, unless, the data played hide and seek with you. Customer service was not your forte but you wing it somehow.
"Heuh... Glad I pushed through over lunch. I'm free all day starting now."
Working remotely has its perks. You can save more expenses by cooking. No transportation fee and so on. The only downside you could think of was, your social life. How awkward you've become with real interaction except for people you know. But that doesn't mean you're timid about it. Life goes on.
"Right. How about I use Quality Time when I cook? The Weekly Plan isn't complete yet."
Blinking, your eyes met red gems.
"Fancy meeting you. I think you've conquered my cafe far more frequently now."
"The lights here are just too bright."
You looked at him, unimpressed.
"Nocturnal creatures sleep during the day. Not sauntered into a cafe looking ready to have a nice walk under the sun."
He somehow gave a cheeky smile at you. Then asking you if you could let him continue checking in on the auction.
"Be my guess." You tapped 'Yes'.
The screen flashes. He sat down while scrolling on his phone to watch supposedly an auction. Not that you could see it.
You propped your phone, letting him accompany you while you're in the kitchen nonetheless.
Somehow you feel bad about forcing him to have a Quality Time with you after he said that. But you kinda want a company too.
You prepared your charger port in the case your phone alerted you on low battery. Eyes briefly glanced to your phone.
His eyes stared at you then they turned back to the phone less in milliseconds.
You shook your head, "Must've have imagine it."
+---------------------------+-----------------------+
"Have you seen the one with the rocking chair?"
"My eyes are clean, thank you. Spare me from that."
"Pleaaaaaaseeee... Just stay in the room with me. Hold me down if I look like I'm about to throw my phone away. I don't trust myself."
You sighed, "Someone save me."
+--------------------------+------------------------+
"Aaaak! Why did you do that?"
Your friend smirked as the Wish Pool animation began it ten pulls.
"You've been staring at it for a long long long-"
"Quit it!"
"And it's your finger who did it. Not mine."
You pinched both of her cheeks, "YOUR FINGER force MY FINGER-"
*Tring*
The golden light shone on your phone.
You both turned to it.
"Can't be him. Can't be him. Can't be him."
You chanted as you hold your phone close to you.
"If he did appear in JUST TEN PULLS then you have my blessing with Crow Crow." Your friend caress her aching cheeks while smiling cheekily.
"I'm not going to accompany you watching Snowy later."
"oOh come on...."
Her complained was drowned out as your focus changed to your current predicament.
One. Two. Three taps. You exhaled.
Four. Five. Six taps. You exhaled.
Seven eight nine ten!
Red. Black feathers. Your breathed stalled.
White hair. Half naked. Head down. Red gems looking at you mischieviously.
Silent. Rustling.
"Oh, wow. It really is Crow Crow."
You pulled her cheeks again.
+---------------------------+------------------------+
"Why didn't she watch the new memory?"
Long finger tapped the table. He smiled.
"Playing a little game of cat and mouse, I see."
+--------------------------+------------------------+
You groaned, "Did you see this guy? Am I a sack of potatoes this time?"
"Yours? Did you see mine? WHY ARE WE ROCKING AGAIN?" She blushed.
You patted her back in sympathy.
+------------------------------+---------------------+
"Ready? One two..." *Tapp*
"How many times?"
"The 8th time. I hope he comes this time even with the rocking-theme still there."
You patted your friend's back.
"You?"
"Third and probably my last-"
*Tring*
Both heads looked at their respective phones. Both had the golden sparks.
Two pairs of eyes looking at each other. Disbelief. Nervous.
They looked back at their phone and started looking through.
A gasp. Snowflakes. Your friend's mushy face as she buried her phone in her chest.
"Careful." You took it away from her before she destroyed it with her love-death hug.
"AH! LOOK! LOOK! LOOK!" She pointed at your phone.
Feathers scattered. Your breath hitched. There he was, carrying MC, with that smug face of his.
You raked your hair, "Wow. I was just... testing it out."
Your friend nudged you, "Crow Crow flies straight to your heart, huh?"
Cheeks being pulled.
+-----------------------------+-----------------------+
You let it play out this time.
You were too shy to watch the previous one in-game so you just let it marinate there. Besides, you've already watched it from fan's sharing.
Currently, you were getting a simple dinner ready as you glanced at your phone once in a while. Bluetooth headphones were on.
You've watched it with your friend on another platform. Both of you watched all of the character's new banner. You can't help it but wanting to know how this one played out.
Every scene looks fine.
You particularly like that one scene. Hearing it alone was enough. You rather not have a repeat of redden ears when you watch it previously. Almost being caught by your friend.
"Shavanika." You stopped on your track.
Ears warm. You chance a glance as he said it for the last time.
His face was close to the screen. You knew that. What you just realised was that it stopped there for a long time.
Confused, you approached your phone, noticing the Auto icon was off. You tapped it back.
"How did that happen?"
"You're finally in front of me, kitten."
You stared as you heard an unfamiliar dialogue coming from him. He patted MC's head and walked backwards.
The animation continues playing. Your eyes never leaving it. Your body and attention was locked until it was over.
Hand move up like a robot. You played that part again. The dialogue was back to normal. Finger steadily tapping the back button until you saw him looking at you in the cafe.
His slender finger tapping his temple. Face at an angle as he smiled at you cheekily.
You tapped his head.
"Next time you do a sneak attack, give me a heads up. I'll remember to lean down and cooporate."
You finally let out you breathe.
"I've heard that one before."
"Oh, but have you heard of THIS one, sweetie?"
You moved backwards in alarm. Your focus never wavers from the red gems looking at you beyond the screen.
A hum.
You stilled instinctly.
"Good fight mode but it was just me, kitten."
He's watching you as much as you're watching him
"Not to be alarmed but I hope you don't mind me barging in. Unintentionally."
*CRASH*
Your breath ragged. Your mind reeling. Your phone...
Decorated the floor after hugging the wall nearby.
It happened too fast. You didn't even know how you moved instantly to grab the phone and throw it away.
"What in the actual fantasy I've been smoking?"
You crumbled to the floor, trying to calm yourself down.
+-------------------------+-------------------------+
Chuckling.
"She'll make a good pitcher with that throw."
He dialled a number.
"Send her a new phone. The game included."
The sunlight shone through the blinds. He squinted a little before feeling the slight breeze.
"Let the game begin."
Prompt 2! coming back for another kiss + BuckTommy
BUCKTOMMY MY BELOVED okay okay I got this
Buck was not sulking.
He doesn't sulk. He's a grown man of 30-something, with an equally grown 40-something boyfriend (although calling Tommy his boyfriend makes him feel like he's in high school again), so sulking doesn't play a huge part of his day to day life. They're mature. They talk about things.
Except today, Buck is pouting a little. And in his defence, he's allowed to. This is the first time him and Tommy's shifts haven't overlapped perfectly to give them at least 24 hours where they're both off, and Buck is not pleased.
They're spooning in bed together, the early morning August sun streaming in through the windows of Buck's loft, and Tommy has one arm circled around Buck's waist and the other under his neck, pressing small but loving kisses into his shoulder.
"Evan, what's going on? You've been quiet all morning."
Buck sighs. "Nothing I just - I'm gonna miss you," he says quietly, pulling the sheet up to his face so it muffles his voice. Tommy brushes another kiss to the back of Buck's neck and Buck snuggles further into his arms. "This is the longest we've gone without seeing each other between shifts."
Tommy pulls Buck even closer to him and whispers "I'm sorry baby, I know."
They lay in silence for a few moments, just enjoying the peace and quiet before Tommy's alarm is set to go off. Tommy rubs his hand over Buck's chest and down his arm. He feels Buck tense and relax as his fingers drag across his skin, and he presses another kiss to the back of his neck.
"I can cancel my shift today, call in sick," he murmurs, his hand resting on Buck's forearm.
"Don't be stupid," Buck snorts, "they'd see through that in a second."
"Okay well, maybe I can just call out sick tomorrow."
"Tommy, stop," Buck turns over in Tommy's arms to face him, and gives him a soft smile, "you don't have to do that. I'm being dramatic, I'll survive."
"Hey," Tommy leans forward and presses his lips against Buck's forehead, then down his nose, "if I'm being honest, I've kinda been looking forward to the chance to miss you."
Buck blinks and tilts his head back to look at Tommy. "What do you mean?"
"I just -" Tommy looks away from Buck, a small blush rising to his cheeks, "I've never had to miss someone before. It's kinda nice, you know? Having someone I care so much about that I can't bear the thought of being away from."
Buck looks at Tommy, his face open and his eyes shining, and a wide smile stretches across his face. He pulls Tommy into a hug, their bodies pressed against each other, and kisses the side of his head. This thing with Tommy hasn't been going on long - maybe 4 months - but Buck is already beginning to feel more for Tommy than he's felt for any other of his past relationships. He's always been an all-or-nothing type of person, and with Tommy it's no different.
Tommy presses another kiss to Buck's shoulder, and Buck hums contentedly. "You wanna make the most of these last few minutes?"
Tommy lifts his head up, his eyes darkening, and a wicked grin spreads across his face. He rolls himself over so that he's above Buck, and kisses him, their mouths moving together in sync. Tommy trails his hand down Buck's stomach, fingers running over his abs and curling in the light dusting of blond hairs just below Buck's navel. Buck groans into Tommy's mouth, his tongue running over his teeth and he can feel Tommy smirk into the kiss.
"Don't tease me," Buck whimpers, kissing Tommy with more fervour, and Tommy just chuckles.
"'M not teasing," he counters, kissing down Buck's jaw sloppily. "Not if I plan to follow through."
Buck grabs his chin and pulls him up for another bruising kiss, their lips making slick, wet noises as they kiss and kiss and kiss.
"Is teasing, if you're just gonna -"
They're cut off as Tommy's alarm blares, ringing through the room. Buck groans and Tommy rests his forehead against his with a sigh.
"I gotta go, sweetheart," Tommy says as he rolls over, silencing his alarm with a swipe of his forefinger. He looks genuinely regretful as he pulls the covers off himself and begins to get dressed.
Buck swallows back a lump in his throat and props himself up on his elbow to watch. "I know. You go, save some lives. I'll be here when you get back."
Tommy smiles, buttoning his shirt and doing up his belt, and he walks over to the bed, leaning over to cup Buck's face in his hands and kissing him gently.
"I'll call you, yeah?"
"Yeah," Buck says, "text me when you can, I want to know you're okay."
Tommy nods, his thumb brushing over Buck's cheekbone, and Buck leans into the touch, barely able to contain his whine as Tommy pulls away.
"Tommy, wait!" Buck calls as Tommy crosses the loft, pausing just before the top step. He turns around and Buck throws his arms out in front of him, making grabby hands and pouting, pleading with his eyes.
Tommy laughs - he knows exactly what Buck's asking for - and strides back to the bed, taking Buck's face in his hands once more and giving him another kiss, this one just a bit more heated. He pulls back, his thumbs rubbing soothing circles on Buck's cheekbones, and gives him a wink.
"See you later, Evan."
"Be safe," Buck whispers.
@genderthings Robin's Gender Week Day 1, prompt: "sharing pronouns", taken literally | Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Ao3
T | 594 | Genderfluid/Queer Robin(&Steve) | QPR Stobin, hinted Steddie and Rovickie | Modernish AU
Tumblr media
I'll have what they're having
"How are we feeling today?" Robin asks the mirror, squinting at it like its holding more than just a reflection of an indecisive person.
Behind, a flurry of hair and blankets raises up from the unmade bed.
"Kinda fem, honestly," Steve says. "I want to wear these star earrings."
"Ooh," Robin's eyes sparkle. "Are we doing a space theme?"
Steve hums.
"But like, the night sky. Not the nerd NASA stuff."
Robin scoffs.
"Night sky is nerdy, you doofus." With a fond eye roll, the requested earrings get laid out on their old, thrifted vanity. "With that navy shirt with purple swirlies? It kinda looks like a galaxy."
"Paisley."
"What?" Robin frowns, already pulling the mentioned shirt out of the closet.
"The pattern. It's called paisley."
"Okay, diva."
At first, Steve scoffs at the jab, but then makes a thoughtful sound.
"No, you know what? Can that be our pronouns for today? Diva/divine?"
"Hm, are we feeling more this one, then?" Robin picks up on the mood instantly, diving deeper into the closet to pull out something with sparkling, puffy sleeves.
"Hell yeah, we do!" Steve grins, rolling out of the bed to join the outfit picking. Robin is the one to end up in the paisley shirt, thrown over a thin black turtleneck. The star earrings are a part of a set, and Robin gets to wear the moon necklace that goes with them.
"So, she/they?" Steve asks, hand hovering over the finishing touch—a small pile of pronoun pins, each in two copies.
"They/she for me, please?" Robin extends their hand.
"There you go." Steve plucks out the requested pin. They're all simple black-on-white bars, easiest to match with most outfits. And get the most pronoun combinations in.
"We should really get a display banner for them," she purses her lips, putting hands on her hips.
"Ugh, yeah," Robin scrunches their nose at the messy pile of too many, too similar pins. "Do you want to go thrifting today? We could—"
"No," Steve cuts them off immediately and grabs their shoulders to turn them around and walk out of the bedroom. "Absolutely not, we don't have the money or space for more stuff."
Robin huffs but doesn't argue. They know she's right.
"I guess we could ask someone. Eddie one hundred percent has some leftover fabric lying around. He's always working on something."
Stevie hums.
"Yeah, maybe he'll even make one for us, if we ask nicely."
"Ha! He will if you ask," they correct, quickly ducking out of their friend's grasp before she can use it against them.
"Well, maybe you should ask Vickie, then," she puts her hands on her hips. "Doesn't she help in the costume department?"
Robin's eyes widen, and Stevie knows it's not about Vickie anymore.
"No. No, no, no, no, no, we'll just go to Eddie. You know what happened the last time you went into the dressing rooms."
"Uh, I got eaten out within an inch of my life by a hot actress?" they try, pouring two cups of coffee and grabbing the pastries leftover from yesterday. Breakfast of champions.
"And brought home two bags full of scraps!"
Robin makes a 'hngh' sound deep in their throat and Stevie knows, she can relate. It was piles upon piles of treasure, but it took all of their friends to get rid of. They helped to clean up, and actually make use of everything. The glitter and feathers still lingered in the corners of their bedroom.
"Fine," they sigh, settling down by the table. "We'll go to Eddie."
Flufftober Day 4 - First
Content includes: Ace x reader, reader is referred to as "Prefect", getting together, gender neutral reader, author's inability to write Ace properly
Ace Trappola was a lot of firsts for you. He was the first person you truly considered a friend in Twisted Wonderland, along with Deuce and Grim. He was the first person to jump to your aid when you were threatened by Riddle during his Overblot, even if it meant putting himself in danger. He’s the first to congratulate you when you do well on an exam, even if it is in his own teasing way.
He was also the first boy you ever loved.
It was hard not to fall for Ace Trappola. He was the most average teenage boy you’d ever met, all false confidence and teasing remarks, but he was also much, much more than that. He was your best friend, someone you trusted more than anyone else.
But you never once thought it would go anywhere.
The day started like any other. You were lounging around Ramshackle, enjoying your day off from classes. As far as you were concerned, you had absolutely nothing to do today, and you were more than happy to curl up on your ratty couch with Grim and chill.
And then your phone rang, and all of your (lack of) plans were thrown out the window.
You groan when you see the caller I.D., already knowing exactly what’s about to happen. Still, you pick up, unable to resist a call from him.
“Hey Prefect, how’s it goin’?” Ace’s voice comes through the speaker, sounding shaky, almost as if he’s running. He’s also doing that thing where he pretends to sound casual, which means he’s about to ask you for a favor. You cut to the chase, telling him to just spill it already.
“Jeez, harsh much? Can’t a guy just call up his friend for a chat?” After a curt ‘no’ from you, he sighs, confirming exactly what you already suspected. “Okay, so I may have upset Riddle again, but it’s not my fault most of these rules are so stupid. Anyway, I’m heading over to you, so be prepared. K, bye.”
And with that, he hangs up before you can get a word in. It doesn’t matter anyway, as you wouldn’t have denied him even if you wanted to. Even if it’ll get you in trouble, you always let him crash with you when he needs it.
Soon enough, you hear erratic knocking on your door, and you open it to find Ace hunched over, panting as he attempts to catch his breath.
You step aside to let him in, and he saunters in like he hadn’t been practically dying not two seconds ago. “Thanks Prefect, you always know how to help a guy out.” He flops down on your couch, scaring Grim, who promptly shouts at him before jumping down to wander off.
After a moment, you join him, sitting next to him on the opposite end of the couch. You remain like that for a while, just sitting in silence and watching whatever you had on your tv.
Clearly, this silence is too much for Ace since you can see him fidgeting out of the corner of your eye. He’s never been the best at sitting in silence like this, especially not when around someone else.
Awkwardly, he clears his throat, trying to get your attention. He already had it, as per usual, but he doesn’t need to know that.
He turns to face you, curling up so that his back is against the armrest of the couch. You do the same, mirroring his position. You sit like that for a moment, not quite sure what he wanted. It seemed like he had something to say, but now he’s just staring at you. You give him a look, prompting him to speak.
“Well, only because you asked.” He huffs, pretending to be annoyed, but you can read him well enough by now. He’s happy you prompted him. “So, not to get all sappy, because gross, but, seriously, thank you. I know I can kinda be a pain sometimes, but you’re always so willing to put up with me. I don’t know why, but you are and… and I really appreciate that.”
He turns away, obviously flustered by the confession. You laugh a little, a mixture between surprise and amusement. It must have taken a lot of courage for him to confess something like that to you, not to mention how much he probably had to fight against his ego to get so sappy.
At your laugh, he chucks a pillow at you, but it holds no force behind it. You catch it easily, holding it in your lap as you continue to watch him. His confession made you happy, of course, but you’re not quite sure how to take it. He could have easily just meant it in a friendly way. After all, the two of you are friends. Best friends. But, a small voice in the back of your mind holds out hope that maybe, just maybe, he meant it differently.
Eventually, you pluck up the courage to ask what brought this on all of a sudden. Ace may be your best friend, but he’s not the type to get sappy at all. He sits there for a second, no doubt thinking over how he wants to answer your question.
“There’s no getting past you, is there Prefect? Fine, I’ll give.” He takes a deep breath, and it’s obvious that whatever he’s about to say has been weighing on him for a while.
“I like ya, Prefect. Like, as more than a friend. Also, I lied about Riddle being mad at me today. Actually, he was kinda helping me out. He’s kinda the one who made me realize I like you, as cringy as that sounds. I was running ‘cause I wanted to get over here quicker so I could see you. Sorry, for lying and all. I just didn’t know how else to do this.”
You sit there, stunned that he would admit it so easily. But, at the same time, you’re glad. It makes your feelings a lot easier to process.
It also makes your next move feel a lot less embarrassing.
You put the pillow aside before crawling over to his side of the couch. You can see his face flush in embarrassment, and he questions what you’re doing. Before he can start teasing you, you lean in and kiss him, effectively shutting him up.
It’s a quick kiss, only lasting a couple of seconds, but it conveys all of your emotions. When you pull back, Ace is smiling like the dork he is, and you’re sure you look the same.
Without another word, Ace grabs the front of your shirt, pulling you back in for another kiss.
Ace Trappola has been all of your firsts during your time in this world. And, hopefully, he’ll continue his streak.
Arthur met (Y/N) when he moved out to the country.
**Linda's not present in this story, but he'd still move out there after the events between seasons 3 and 4 finished. **
Ada - with the help of Polly - would have a big hand in prompting this move. They both know that Arthur could be better, and that what he surely needed was to be away from the smoke of Small Heath. And they were correct.
It didn't take long for them to meet.
(Y/N)'s house was the next one over - down the street that is - and she met Arthur when she opened her front door to find him one day.
Arthur had met her father prior. He already had an established farm, and that's something Arthur's hoping he could create for himself now that he's got this land. So (Y/N)'s father had told him to come over and that he'd show him around in hopes that some inspiration would strike Arthur.
(Y/N) still lives at home with her parents. She's got a job within their community - running the farmer's market that all of the local farmers bring their goods to (her father included) ... it's just easier for her to stay at home, and her parents are quite happy that she chooses to as she's an only child. They like to keep the family close.
So back to Arthur meeting her at the door. Knowing how Arthur is, I'm sure you could picture how he reacted when he came face fo face with this beautiful woman instead of the older man he'd met earlier in the week. Yeah, he suddenly doesn't know how to form a complete sentence.
(Y/N) finds it adorable. And she goes to get her father when Arthur finally manages to get out what it is that he's there for.
She makes sure to ask her father about him once he leaves, too. Like she pretty much plays twenty questions with him. Her father obliges and answers what she asks...and he's got that look in his eye too - like he has an inkling of an idea as to why she's asking all the questions. (Y/N)'s too oblivious to catch it.
Tumblr media
The next place Arthur finds (Y/N) is at the farmer's market. He's getting some things that he needs and she, of course, checks him out (in more ways then one, if we're being honest).
He's actually able to strike up conversation with her this time around - asking her about the market and how long she'd been working there. And she happily shares answers with him. He ends the conversation with "well if it all goes right, you'll be selling my things here too."
To which (Y/N) responds with "if you're following my father's advice, you'll be growing things in no time."
She leaves him with a sweet smile and then kicks herself once he exits the market. Since when have I ever been so giddy over a man?, she thinks to herself.
Little does (Y/N) know that Ida, one of the older women in the community, watched the entire interaction with a knowing look...she can read these two like an open book.
And it just so happens that Ida's one of the women in the village that loves to gossip.
Tumblr media
The first person in Arthur and (Y/N)'s circle that this gossip gets to is (Y/N)'s father...yeah, probably the worst person it could have reached. He overhears it when he's at one of his fellow farmer's home. The fellow farmer's wife decided to bring it up as a topic of conversation, surprising (Y/N)'s father.
He doesn't even wait to speak to Arthur about it. It's during one of the evenings where the two men are meeting, because Arthur's still getting a handle on the whole farming thing, that the older man decides to bring it up. He comes right out with it, too - "whatever your intentions with my daughter are, you'd better be an honest man about it."
Arthur's surprised, to say the least. But he doesn't deny the interest he has in (Y/N). He puts on a serious face and nods, saying "I will, sir." (Y/N)'s father nods in response.
Tumblr media
So the next time Arthur sees (Y/N), which happens to be when she answers the door to find him on her family's front stoop - again, Arthur asks her to dinner.
And that's the start of a lovely relationship.
He's careful with who he tells. He wants to leave his life in Small Heath out of it for the most part. Sure, in some ways that's doing a disservice to (Y/N), but this new start has been good for Arthur.
He tells John and Ada, who are both incredibly happy for him. Finn just kind of finds out one day when he's visiting his eldest brother, and he's got nothing bad to say about it. He'd tell Tommy too...if Tommy wasn't so hard to reach. Polly is also hard to reach during this time, but he does mention it to her.
They're truly inseparable from the start. (Y/N) feels bashful at the fact that she practically lives at Arthur's home now, but Arthur repeatedly tells her that he's so incredibly happy that she's staying with him.
It's during these months that he's the happiest he's ever been. His little farm is flourishing (thanks to the help from the farmer's daughter and her knowledge), and he's sure that he's now with the love of his life.
The move that he was initially feeling uncertain about has turned out to be one of the best decisions he's ever made.
Tumblr media
About three or four of these blissful months pass before Arthur's meeting with (Y/N)'s father again. This time, however, he's got a question that doesn't involve farming.
He wants to ask him for his daughter's hand in marriage.
He does everything in proper fashion too - sits down with him, professes how (Y/N) makes him feel and even shows the ring that he'd picked out a few weeks back.
(Y/N)'s father essentially has to agree to Arthur's questions twice because the latter doesn't hear him the first time. He's too busy going through the speech he'd prepared to take into account that her father could answer before he finished it.
And when he does hear his answer, he's immediately relieved.
He wastes no time in asking her. In fact, he does it that evening while they're enjoying some time out on the grounds of his property. Of course she says yes!
News of the engagement spreads like wildfire throughout the village. Some think it's way too early for that step, but others - particularly those who have known (Y/N) and her family for some time - think it's perfect.
(Y/N)'s so excited to plan their wedding, and Arthur's eager to allow her to have anything she wants as part of their big day.
She pours every ounce of herself into the planning and preparations over the next few months.
All of the excitement, however, comes to a screeching halt near Christmas of 1925, when a Black Hand comes in the mail.
To be clear, by this point Arthur's told (Y/N) about what sort of business he was involved in prior to moving out of Small Heath. He felt that if he was going to truly be with her, she deserved to know every part of him.
Sure (Y/N)'s not exactly enthused to learn of the types of things he'd done in the past, but anyone was easily able to see that he was making a good faith effort to separate and distance himself from every part of that lifestyle - besides keeping in touch with his family, of course.
When it's decided that the Shelby's would move back to Small Heath to face the vendetta head on, Arthur insists that (Y/N) stays back in the village. He hopes that the Italians don't know much more about his life there than the address of his home.
There's some hesitance from (Y/N), but she ultimately agrees and moves back with her parents as Arthur heads to Small Heath.
Tumblr media
The distance is tough for the two of them. They've essentially gone from being each other's everything every day for the past year to not having any contact whatsoever.
And so while hell's happening in Small Heath, (Y/N)'s living a normal life back home. Things go on like this for some time too...until one day things change.
The - for lack of better terms - hit gets put out after Arthur kills the two men in the basement of the factory.
Two strange men were hanging around the farmer's market for the entirety of (Y/N)'s shift. She feels something uneasy about them, but tries to shake it off and focus on helping customers and whatnot.
They bring her to a stop on her walk home and force her to get into their car, driving off without a word.
(Y/N) decides to stay quiet and remains relatively calm. She doesn't know what these men want, and hopes that if she's compliant with them, they'll let her go.
Unfortunately things don't pan out that way.
The drive feels like it goes on forever, and it's dark by the time they make it to their destination. Because of this - and the fact that the men were forcibly dragging her to the doors - (Y/N)'s unable to catch any defining markers of where she now is.
She's dragged into a dark room, where the only piece of furniture is a wooden chair. Nothing is said as she's shoved into the chair and the men begin tying her to it. "What do you want from me?" she finally asks.
One of the men smirks, glancing at his counterpart before responding, "I'd get comfortable, sweetheart, you might be here awhile."
With that the two leave her tied to the chair, nodding to the man that she now notices is sitting by the door of the room.
A decent chunk of time passes - (Y/N)'s not sure how much because there's nothing that could tell her - before the door opens again.
A different man walks in this time. He's wearing a nicely tailored suit, a fedora, and as he comes to a stop in front of her, (Y/N) can see that he's chewing on the end of a matchstick. A wicked grin spreads across his lips as he gets a good look at her.
"Who are you?" she asks, trying to keep her voice steady.
"You don't know me, sweetheart, but I know all about you," the man answers, "and your family."
This confuses her even more. "What do you mean?"
The man responds quickly, "Your husband killed my father. I want to know where he is."
"I don't...I don't know where he is," she says while trying to hide the fact that her heart is beating out of her chest.
The man just laughs at her statement. "See I don't believe that."
"It's true," she quickly responds, the desperation in her voice not helping her.
The man shakes his head, a wicked smirk forming as he looks her over. "Let me put this as simply as possible: you have twenty-four hours to give Arthur Shelby to me, or it'll be you who dies next. Understood?" (Y/N) doesn't answer. He gets really close to her as a look of annoyance spreads across his face. "I said: do you understand me?" The cologne he wears is almost too much for her to bear. Her face wrinkles together for a moment, hoping if she holds her breath, he'll just leave. But he doesn't.
So she opens her eyes and locks them onto his. "I do," she finally answers, her voice steady despite the fear that's coursing through her.
"Good," the man smirks, finally stepping away from her. "You'll tell him when you're ready," he states, motioning to the man who'd been watching her since she was placed in the room. "I'd do it sooner than later, sweetheart," he suggests, laughing to himself as he exits the room.
(Y/N)'s left with a startling decision now. She truly doesn't know what to do, or if there's even a way out of this.
Tumblr media
Back home, people are talking. (Y/N)'s absence isn't hard to miss. At first it's thought that maybe she's gone out for the day, but worries skyrocket when she hasn't returned by the evening.
Her parents waste no time in contacting Arthur, even though it might not be the best move.
(Y/N) told them of the way she was instructed to get any urgent information to Small Heath - by calling the factory they owned and placing a message.
When Arthur receives this message the next time he's at the factory, he immediately knows something's wrong with her. There wouldn't be any other reason why (Y/N)'s parents would be the ones sending out the call.
They manage to send one of Aberama's men out to gain more details, and what information is brought back to Small Heath instantly makes Arthur's blood run cold. His fiancée was in danger. Everything else could wait...what needed to happen next was they needed to find where she was being held.
— ••• —
(Y/N) doesn't give any information to the man appointed to watch over her. She wasn't going to give her fiancé up. She holds onto hope that something'll happen before her time is up.
The man sitting by the door keeps a steady watch on her. (Y/N)'s surprised that he hasn't nodded off to sleep yet, as he hadn't been switched out for anyone else.
It all happens so suddenly. One moment, the man was turning his head to investigate a scraping noise that he heard just outside the doorway. The next, there's a man with what (Y/N) makes out to be shoulder-length hair peeking out from under a fedora pressing a gun to the seated man's temple.
The breath gets stuck in (Y/N)'s throat, but she doesn't panic.
"You speak and it'll be the last thing you ever do," the gun wielding man threatens the seated man. As expected, silence follows. "She's in here," the man then proclaims, making more footsteps sound in the corridor.
The voice that comes next has sobs of relief leaving (Y/N)'s mouth. "(Y/N)," Arthur calls as he rushes to where she's tied up. "(Y/N), love, I'm here."
"I...I didn't know what to...I didn't tell them anything," she stumbles over her words as Arthur works quickly on untying her from the chair. The second her hands are released, she falls into his arms.
"I've got you now. You're ok, you're safe," he whispers into her hair as she clings to him.
"What do I do with him, boss?" the man, who's still pressing a gun into one of her captors' temple, asks.
"Dispose of 'em," a second man responds. A slight struggle ensues, but (Y/N) doesn't move to see what happens. She stays put in Arthur's arms.
Time passes and the couple stays put. Arthur's thanking every god he knows of for keeping (Y/N) safe. (Y/N)'s still trying to get a hold of her emotions. Keeping them bottled up for this long while she was tied up is catching up with her.
"I didn't know if you'd come or not," she finally says some time later.
"I'll always come," he assures her, his voice gravelly as his emotions catch up with him. "When the day's done, I've got you, darlin'."
His comforting words made her finally lift her head from his chest. Her teary eyes found his and she couldn't help but smile. It felt like they'd been apart for years. Something quickly became apparent to her as she took in his appearance.
"Arthur..." she paused, letting out a mixture of a laugh and a sniffle, "your hair." What was all one length and longer was now shaved short on the sides but kept long on the top. She just had to reach out to feel it, wanting to confirm that it was actually real.
Arthur's brows furrow in confusion for a moment before he realizes what she's talking about. He can't help but chuckle as he feels her fingers run through his hair. "I cut it. Hope you don't mind, love."
"I don't," (Y/N) answers, shaking her head. "I love it."
