Just found this today but I was gonna make a post about this kiddo anyway so you're in luck xD

This is Cassie (short for Cassiopeia) from the SOS Chronicles who I should really talk about more. She first appears in book 1 as Oliver's other best friend who takes care of Silas after Oliver escapes to find them help. She's only 7 in book one, but for the rest of the series she's 9-10. She's the gang's tech person/mechanic, and even at seven she has an innate understanding of how things Work that allows her to disable the electric fence around the slave compound for a few minutes so that Oliver can cut a part of it out in preparation for his escape.

She's extremely optimistic and energetic, even as a slave. She fully believes in Oliver's ability to find them help and come back to rescue them, in stark contrast to her pessimistic mother who always believes the worst. Cassie always needs to be moving, which is why I drew her shirt flowing like that, to try and express that this child is always in motion.

Her hair is calico. Yes, like the cat. It's because she's based off a calico kitten I knew once. The in-universe reason for her and all the other characters with weird hair colors is that, after coming to space, humans mixed their genes with all sorts of aliens, so sometimes you get weird things like kids with multicolor hair.

Other fun facts about Cassie: she's the only main character shorter than Oliver. She likes bright and colorful things, hence her outfit. She has ADHD. She's very loyal and loves Oliver and Silas like brothers. When the boys bring Silvie back Cassie accepts their new weird alien sister with open arms, and, in fact, probably doesn't even notice the alien thing very much. She likes to give her friends little trinkets- half finished inventions, homemade fidget toys, anything that vaguely reminds her of them. She thinks Captain Dora (ex space pirate) is the coolest person in the universe (and she's right). She desperately wants to help her friends but doesn't always know how and often feels helpless or that her skills are not enough. She can find something to be happy about and grateful for no matter where she is or what situation she's in. She's extremely friendly but also shy. She'd die for her friends without even thinking about it.

I'm still figuring out how exactly she fits into the story and how big of a role she has but that's the basics of her. Also, fun fact about her name, I called her "Stormy" for a long time and eventually turned that into her last name, "Storm", but I needed to give her a new first name. I eventually decided on "Cassiopeia" after the character of the same name from the 1978 Battlestar Galactica, because she's pretty freaking cool, tbh. In story the reason for Cassie's name is that Silas (who loves space and the stars) heard Cassie's mom trying to come up with a name for her and shouted "Cassiopeia!" because he'd just learned the name of the constellation. He was like two at the time. xD
